Long Beach, California, R&B singer-songwriter Nana Elan is bringing emotional honesty, undeniable attitude, and a refreshing sense of self-awareness to her latest project, Love Drain. The four-track EP marks her third extended play release, exploring the complicated realities of romantic relationships through vulnerability, desire, heartbreak, and the realization that protecting your peace sometimes means walking away from what you want most.

Since developing her songwriting at 17, Nana Elan has built her artistic identity on expressive lyricism, rich harmonies, and a vocal delivery that balances sweetness with an unmistakable edge. Her approach to contemporary R&B feels personal and intentional, allowing her experiences to shape the stories she shares rather than relying on familiar romantic narratives.

With Love Drain, Nana Elan takes listeners through the emotional highs and lows of love across four tracks: “Better - Acoustic,” “Recipe,” “Narcissistic Soul,” and “Red Cup.” Together, the songs contribute to a project centered on attraction, emotional attachment, heartbreak, and the importance of recognizing when a relationship is no longer serving your well-being.

The EP opens with “Better - Acoustic,” followed by “Recipe,” before moving into “Narcissistic Soul” and closing with “Red Cup.” Throughout the project, Nana Elan explores the tension between wanting someone deeply and understanding when it's time to put yourself first.

What makes Love Drain particularly relatable is Nana Elan's refusal to present heartbreak as simply a story of loss. Instead, she approaches difficult relationships as opportunities for growth, encouraging listeners to recognize their worth without dismissing the complicated feelings that come with letting go.

For Nana Elan, the message extends beyond romance, emphasizing self-awareness, emotional boundaries, and maintaining confidence through uncomfortable experiences.

As she continues to establish herself in contemporary R&B, Love Drain marks another chapter in Nana Elan's development as both a vocalist and storyteller, offering listeners a project rooted in the understanding that love should never come at the expense of losing yourself.

Your new EP, Love Drain, explores the emotional exhaustion that can come from complicated relationships. What personal experiences inspired the project, and when did you realize those emotions needed to become music?

A draining love experience for 7 years, along with the toxic relationship with my mom for decades. Overall, I realized it was time to step away from allowing pain from the ones I love- pain that steals my purity as a soft Lover.

You've been writing songs since you were 17. How has your understanding of love, vulnerability, and self-worth evolved throughout your career, and how does Love Drain reflect that growth?

I’ve grown to understand how failed, neglected, or unreciprocated Love can cause a sender to lose their heart. The sender of love then finds themselves fighting the urge to be soft, easygoing, and submissive all because of past bad love experiences. It’s like us girls are naturally vulnerable until shown not to be. Overall, Love Drain embodies the loyalty and light still left in my heart even after my love is taken for weakness.

Your music combines rich vocal harmonies with honest, sometimes unapologetic lyricism. How do you balance vulnerability with confidence when writing about experiences that are still emotionally close to you?

Tracks one through four narrate how we crave love like candy until our stomach aches. Alongside a pleading simp in Track 1, ‘Better’, my savage and unapologetic side comes out by the 4th record, ‘Red Cup ’, reflecting a self-assured coda. I blame the balance on being a Libra lol, but I think staying true to myself is the best way to attract listeners that can relate. As long as I can promote the idea of self-worth, I don’t mind getting personal, spicy, or even lyrically explicit.

You encourage listeners to set boundaries and protect their self-worth, even when love gets complicated. What was the biggest lesson you learned while creating Love Drain, and what do you hope listeners take away from the project?

I really hope listeners connect with my lyrics in real time. Every person on earth experiences heartbreak, but despite how much we long for connection, never let your drain clog up too badly. Being a sucker for love can leave your heart empty, so set boundaries; stay self-assured with unbreakable poise!  Listen & find a record you feel. 1 song guarantee!
