NEW MUSIC: Dynamic Duo Minus 2 Dropped “In My Bubble”

Writer: BUZZ LABUZZ LA

Laced with elements of electronic pop and indie tones, “In My Bubble” takes the listener on a journey through space and time. The soundscape that Minus 2 creates allows you to escape into the lyrical flow and expert production quality. Minus 2 is changing up the mainstream game with their refreshing new take on music. The soundscape throughout “In My Bubble” continues to gather momentum, slowly but surely enveloping you in this surprisingly upbeat and beautifully chaotic downpour of layers and moments. The music energizes, yet the song itself takes you down lyrical pathways soaked in reflection. A diverse mix of musical arrangements, deep lyrical flows, and intense hard-hitting vocals, “In My Bubble” is definitely worth a listen at volume.

Residing in Los Angeles is the musical duo of Minus 2. Comprised of 2 ex-professional football players, Collin Charles and J. Black, the two have an unbreakable musical chemistry. Previously teammates at Iowa State University, Charles and Black developed a close friendship through their bond of football and music. Collin Charles has always had music play a large roll in his life from a young age, he’s a multi-instrumentalist, producer, composer, engineer, and vocalist. Houston native, J. Black only began really incorporating music into his life in 2017, but his flawless sound and undeniable talent would make you think otherwise. Minus 2’s sound can be described as retro-future that fuses soulful lyrics, catchy melodies and alternative dance instrumentals.

Hey Minus 2! Great to be showcasing some of your new music on BuzzMusic! Do you believe that the way you intend to communicate your messages through your music is easily received by your listeners?

We would say so, there are probably some things that slip passed the listener the first time they hear a song but I think that’s true with most music. I always like discovering new details to songs the more you listen to them so hopefully that’s something we provide.

“In My Bubble” was an incredibly versatile and catchy track. Where did you draw the inspiration to create this particular type of sound?

From a production standpoint it was the first song we made using a new piece of hardware called the MPC Live. It felt like as soon as we brought it home and started messing with it, the beat was made, and within minutes J had the hook written. It took some months to flush out the rest but the heart of it was there.

How would you say that “In My Bubble” compares to the kind of music you curated when you first started out as an artist?!

In My Bubble definitely feels like a new wave in our evolution. There’s still a lot of appreciation for the music we first released but with recognition that we’ve both improved at our craft and we believe it shows.

Do you prefer the more intimate recording process over live performance? How do you personally feel when you're performing your music live?

We enjoy recording and performing, they’re both very satisfying in different ways. Exploring the imagination and creating a piece of music that we love is a great feeling, and getting up in front of people to take them on a journey with the art that we’ve created is also a lot of fun. The live performance also has an element of pressure that adds to the reward when it goes well.

It was awesome to be able to present “In My Bubble” here on BuzzMusic! What do you think is next for you as an artist? Where do you hope to progress within the next couple of years?!

In the next couple of years we hope to progress to a point at which we’ve tapped into the international market in addition to touring the US and continuing to release music we are proud of. We’d love to accumulate more fans but we are grateful for the ones we already have and we want to keep them entertained while having the most fun possible.
