Mighty Tortuga is delivering authentic dream-rock from Connecticut. They combine nostalgic sounds of the ’90s, emo power punk-pop and relatable, accessible themes. Instrumentally throughout “Swear To God” there’s something of a punk-rock vibe to the track at first, that electric guitar riff is simple yet effective – memorable and contrasting enough to create a dynamic with everything else. Following this, Mighty Tortuga injects a brief yet rhythmically effective melody and story-line that redirects the experience. That vocal has more of a dreamy-rock tone and style about it during the smoother moments. “Swear To God’s” subject matter is also notably thoughtful, offering personal depth and reflection that feels way more singer-songwriter-like than anything simply designed as an anthem to entertain.
All of these qualities work in unison to give Mighty Tortuga a sound and approach that’s all their own right now. “Swear To God” may sound familiar and nostalgic from afar, but what you find within is something well worth venturing into more than a couple of times. Welcome to BuzzMusic Mighty Tortuga! We’re really happy to be featuring your song “Swear To God”. It’s very catchy, but also incorporates an integral message within. Can you explain to our readers the truth that is embedded within the track?
Thanks so much for sitting down with us! I think the message within the track is subjective. It is always interesting to see the different theories our fans have when it comes to the lyrics of our songs, and I typically like to keep them guessing. What I will say about “Swear to God,” is that it deals with how two individuals work through trust issues with one another.
We’re always curious to learn more about how bands form! How did Mighty Tortuga officially come to fruition?
Mighty Tortuga was formed in the Summer of 2018 stemming from a group of songs written one night in a basement. We all came from other bands working to formulate something fresh and exciting for a scene that is currently saturated by pop-punk. The “emo dream rock” vibe of the band is something we all wanted to dabble into, and so far we have had amazing response on tour!
Who has had the biggest influence on your life musically thus far? Can you describe the impact this particular individual has had in terms of your new song “Swear To God”?
Since we produce and record our own records, I would say our amazing group of friends, family, and fans have the largest impact on our songs. Every experience we’ve had thus far forms the experiences we have now. That is all thanks to the support we get from them every single day.
What are some of your ultimate goals as a group? Are any of these goals currently being put into place/being worked on?
Collectively, our goal as a group is to keep creating music we love, playing it as much as we can, and most importantly–supporting each other. We want to make sure every local band gets the recognition they deserve, so we can all grow together. We are currently in the studio working on our second record with the goal of putting out the best songs we possibly can. No sign of slowing down any time soon, and we are really excited about the direction of these new songs.

We are currently out on the “Swear to God Tour” that runs until November 8th, ending in our Hometown of Hamden, CT with some amazing CT local bands. Also, as mentioned before, we have been heading in and out of the studio to wrap up our next record. Until then we have a few surprises coming, so keep your eyes peeled. Thanks for having us!
