Paris-Based alternative pop artist, Tennin is perplexing in the most enticing way. With 2019's HEAL YOU, she captured the transformative nature of alternative music with the mystifying presence of her voice. On this year's freshest release, Tennin is breaking down the four walls surrounding alternative-pop as a genre and is introducing a fresh contemporary approach with "Guys in Tears." Tennin first envelopes us with an ambient, but discernable rumbling sub-synth melded beautifully amongst crisp and distinct electronic percussion. "Tough guy in Tears, tough guy," she sings, echoing vocals spiraling into the air. The warmth and recurrence of her chorus draw us ever deeper into the trance-like state this composition induces and highlights the precise variations found throughout the song. Gradually, this deep listening trance amplifies, and suddenly you're more aware of your surroundings. Even the beat of your own heart is more distinct. Tennin exudes a feeling of ecstasy and tranquillity mixed with fixed but spirited rhythmic motifs. With sprinkles of dubstep inspired rumbles throughout, this song is a vanguard for forward-thinking rebels. Tennin is able to sing deftly and sound sweet, even if it is a cryptic sweetness. Her words entrance a luscious, fleeting impression as they drift away.
