Welcome to BuzzMusic Holly Bernt Band! Can you tell us more about your upbringing into music? How did you get started?
I can't remember not playing/writing music. I don't remember writing my first songs but my family still sings them to me as a joke ( one had something to do with me thinking that Christianity and being a vegetarian were the same thing). I started performing in church as a kid and then as an adult I started going to open mics where I met a great group of musicians. We were all able to grow together and start getting gigs at bars, festivals and venues.
How do you feed your passion for music everyday?
I don't feed it everyday.. which can be an issue... it gets hungry and follows me around like a dark shadow until I feed it.
Your song “Take A Look At Me Now” is amazing! We love the lyrical metaphors and melody. What inspired this song?
This song was inspired first off by wanting to write something that had an upbeat melody. The lyrics are about being okay with your dark side (we all have one) and the tough moments in life. Also the idea that if you let your anxiety in instead of pushing it away it will go away instead of putting you in a bad place.
What’s your favorite part of the song, lyrically or sonically?
I couldn't say which part of a song I like because it depends on the song. I do however, prefer writing lyrics because there are so many "aha" moments and things that you learn about yourself when you write.
What’s next for Holly Bernt Band?
We are working on our second album, playing shows around LA and looking forward to a West Coast tour later this year.
