Emerging from Southern California’s fertile underground scene, Throwlight, the metal-meets-hip-hop hardcore collective, have unleashed their highly anticipated debut single, “Back Down.”
Out now on all major streaming platforms, the track is produced by the renowned Paul Miner, whose credits include work with punk and hardcore heavyweights like Death By Stereo, Thrice, Fear, Adolescents, and New Found Glory. With their debut album looming on the horizon, the band promises more music to come, with an official announcement expected for a Fall release.
“Back Down” is a blistering critique of today’s media-saturated world, dissecting the suffocating grip of technology and the pervasive flood of misinformation. The song taps into the frustration of navigating a digital landscape where political agendas and endless advertising shape every aspect of modern life.
Rocom’s lyrics, imbued with a raw intensity reminiscent of the hardcore of the early 2000s, tear into the anxiety and alienation felt from living behind screens that constantly dictate what to think and how to feel.
Throwlight’s roots run deep. Long before they were a band, they were a brotherhood. Lead vocalist Rocom, an established underground rapper, discovered his childhood friends Kevin Betz and Chris Ellis were forming a metal band—and it wasn’t long before he jumped on board. His rapid-fire lyrical flow fused perfectly with the heavy riffs the duo crafted. But the arrival of longtime collaborator King of Somewhere, a fellow rap artist with a flair for synths, crystallized Throwlight’s sound—a volatile blend of Hip-Hop and heavy metal unlike anything else in the scene.
Hailing from South Orange County, Throwlight’s four members draw from an eclectic mix of influences—punk, rap, hardcore, and metal—culminating in a fierce and frenetic sound. Blistering grooves collide with sharp melodies and Rocom’s relentless verses, crafting an unmistakable sonic identity built for headbanging and moshing alike.
With deep personal ties and a shared love for boundary-pushing music, Throwlight is on the verge of making serious waves with its genre-bending debut. Keep your eyes peeled for what’s next.
