The Los Angeles-based recording artist and relatable singer-songwriter TT17 releases his deeply passionate and angsty single entitled "Hard Hits."
Travis Thompson, better known as TT17, never fails to wow us with his limitless emotion that anyone can relate with, especially through his latest single. TT17 has the ability to connect on a personal level with those who've experienced depression, bullying, humiliation, or any type of adversity that life strikes them with.
TT17 recently released his moody and passionate single, "Hard Hits," which genuinely hit us hard in all the feels. The song was produced by Mike Lazano and is truly nothing short of an emotional masterpiece. The way TT17 sings and commands our attention is honestly mesmerizing, especially when he drenches us in his relatable chilling lyricism.
Hitting play on the new single, "Hard Hits," the song opens with a melancholy grunge-like electric guitar that perfectly sets the song's passionate and introspective tone. As TT17 makes his way in, he grabs our attention with his alternative/emo vocals that remind us of a modern MGK. While singing and rapping about the confusion and intensity of a turbulent relationship, TT17 perfectly portrays those painful emotions with the utmost poise.
We love the quick and rhythmic flow of TT17's bars; paired with the song's dreamy and chilling alternative/hip-hop production, it truly makes for a unique and soul-clutching listening experience. While he continues to open his heart and paint those delicate emotions with the utmost angst, we make our way to the outro, where TT17 closes the song on a deeply reflective note.

Welcome back to BuzzMusic, TT17. Once again, we adore the emotion and vulnerability within your bars in "Hard Hits." What inspired you to create this powerful and introspective single?
I appreciate you guys inviting me back for another interview! Honestly, 'Hard Hits' is a song about a girl that played me in July. I and her were in the heavy talking stages, and then, she ghosted me and unfollowed me on Instagram. She told me a couple of weeks later that she had a new guy she was talking to, and that she was "practicing" with me. That hit me very hard, hence the name 'Hard Hits'. I deleted her number and blocked off all contact with her, except to personally text her the link to the song when it dropped (I got a nasty text back) . As for what personally inspired me to write the song? I was literally in line at the bank and she sent me a long text, but I didn't have her number saved. That inspired the first 2 lines of the chorus, and I just free-wrote from there.
What was your songwriting process like for "Hard Hits"? Did you face any personal challenges when opening up and wearing your heart on your sleeve?
Even though it doesn't seem like it is based on the lyrics, I was so, so, so furious writing 'Hard Hits'. I can't lie, I wanted her so bad, and it sucked that she chose someone else over me. I hated the line I wrote, "She got a new man, I hope he treats her well.", just because of how much rage the thought of them together brought me. The biggest personal challenge I faced was explaining the story over and over again to anyone who asked because most of the people involved in my life know this girl, so it was hard to keep repeating a story that I wished had a different ending.
When creating "Hard Hits," did you have any artistic influences or projects in mind that inspired the feel and tone of this song?
Honestly, no. I feel like this song is one of a kind, there isn't really anything else like it that I have dropped. Even my producer, Mike Lazano, was shocked when I was recording it. I remember he said something like "This isn't your normal type of song, but this is going places!". As of right now, it is my #1 song on Spotify, even ahead of '7 Years' , which has 113,000 streams and counting.
How would you describe your sound to new listeners? Where do you think your music fits on the genre spectrum?
I would describe my sound as one of a kind and underrated. I always ask people "Who do you think my music sounds like?", and I always get a mix between NF, The Kid LAROI, Juice WRLD, and Logic. It's never one more than the other, though. I'm one of one. I don't think my music is like any of those great artists, though. I think my music is like TT17. I'm one of one!
What's next for you?
I just announced my third album, 'Wake Me Up In Calabasas' to release on February 4, 2022, with a total of 19 songs! As for me, personally, I'm auditioning for 'America's Got Talent on January 9, 2022. I'm patiently waiting for my come-up, and it's going to happen sooner rather than later, so you better grab some popcorn and get ready to watch this movie of my life.
