Big Badd Wolf is a Texas-based recording artist, rapper, and gifted lyricist. Born into a musical enriched family he grew up listening to the sounds of everything from Elvis to Journey, Elton to Michael, Queen to Prince, and, of course, 90’s music. Big Badd Wolf has always used his creative side to his advantage. Beginning as a drummer in high school, Big Badd Wolf says this helped him to establish his rhythm as he developed his singing, rapping, and songwriting abilities. With his debut album on the horizon, Big Badd Wolf aims to deliver positivity and love to the world with his music.
“Cry Wolf” is the first single released from Big Badd Wolf’s much-anticipated album "Careless Whispers", set to release early 2020. The unmistakable sound of Big Badd Wolf pours through in the form of an explosive new track “Cry Wolf”. Hey Big Badd Wolf! Welcome to BuzzMusic! What inspired you to first begin making music and releasing it to the public?
I was commuting to UNT, Denton attempting to qualify for the graphic design program, then along came a cliche, & I fell in love. Thing's didn't work out with the graphics program, or the woman haha but it got me to write my first lyrics. No music to listen to, just what I felt inside. Venturing out into the music realm, I connected with a lot of amazing artists. Recorded some early work in buddies duplexes, got some compliments, expanded a lil, & meet more amazing artists to learn more from. Now I'm here with an album fully recorded & near ready for release. Overall, it's life, & love that comes from music. I really want to be a part of that world. I want to affect people in a positive way with my art. (Deep breath) haha
You seem to be an artist that puts more thought into his lyrics than most. What can you tell us about the lyrical depth within “Cry Wolf”?
Not to shit on myself... cause I'm fucking awesome, but I'm not by ANY means a naturally gifted singer, & what little prowess I have comes from no one being able to get me to shut up haha. With that being said, my lyrics are where the true power lies in my music. I lay my soul out with my words, & I express it with my voice.
Since you’ve been making music for several years, how would you compare some of the earlier material you’ve written to your newest release “Cry Wolf”?
I think there's a really clear, beautiful, & sometimes cringeworthy evolution to my artwork. Most everything I've done is up on Soundcloud, so it's all there for anyone who wants to see where I started.
We’re super stoked to hear your upcoming album “Careless Whispers”! What have been some of your proudest or most memorable moments in music so far?
How I doned the moniker 'Big Badd Wolf', is a proud moment. I had written my first song with a live band 'One Finger for Freedom', & it was a zoot suit bop called "Big Bad Wolf" with a rock vibe. I went to see them play live at a dive bar near TCU, & they called me up to perform it with them. Fucking epic. Been Big Badd Wolf ever since.
We really appreciate you chatting with us about your incredible music! What’s next for you artistically? Does your creativity manifest itself in other ways?
MUSIC. MUSIC. MUSIC. I've always been a creative soul. I do most of my album/ track artwork now. I have so many plans it hurts haha. Started out doodling, I really found a passion for sketching/ conceptualizing for most of my life, but now I feel like I have a chance to really make a difference with my music.
