Walking Through Brianna Corona's Explosive 2019

20-year-old recording artist Brianna Corona gave us a seriously impressive tracklist to listen to this 2019. One of her tracks, "broken letters" was released during 2019, and features the contemporary ballad of Brianna. "broken letters" is the kind of song that makes you feel reflective of your own personal life. Brianna Corona outlines her own experience of heartbreak, which is what makes the track so incredibly vulnerable. The lyricism is very personalized to Brianna's life, and as we listened to the entirety of "broken letters", we felt undoubtedly connected to Brianna's private life. We love getting that peak into the true realities of an artist through their music, as Brianna Corona executed this aspect in the most appropriate way.

As we continue on her tracklist, we come across Brianna Corona's 6-track EP "Words" that was released this year! The actual track "Words" is much more alluring and sensual than previous tracks Brianna offers us. "Words" is very expressive, methodical and smooth! The lyricism is super silky, and Brianna showcases that vocal versatility so well within this track. She drags out her words to offer that mystic and deepened effect to her sound, which is an attribute that really characterizes the track. A more light and airy component to Brianna Corona's voice actually gets brought out in "Guessing Game", which was her mid-summer track debut, including an eclectic music video. "Guessing Game" features some prominent House soundings that once combined with Brianna's exuberant vocalism synthesizes the most fitting pop track. These electronic/house elements are still incorporated into the main production of the track, and the lyricism of artist SOUNDS and Brianna Corona together ensure that pop/club styling. All in all, we're impressed by what Brianna Corona has offered her listeners musically this year, and we're looking forward to what's in store for her artistically next year!

Hey, Brianna Corona! We're happy we get a chance to talk over your music! 2019 was a serious year for you in terms of creating and recording. How do you feel now that the year is coming to an end?

Hey! Thanks for interviewing me, it’s a serious time of reflection right now. I’m definitely happy with how far I’ve come over the past year. But even so, I know there is so much more in store for me with 2020. With all that I experienced in 2019, I can honestly say I feel ready to jump into greater and more challenging projects this new year. More than anything, I’m just so grateful to have received all the love and support throughout this start to my career. This new decade feels like a fresh start, and I’m feeling more inspired than ever.

Your EP release "Words" was a phenomenal collection of the sounds that really characterize your sounding. Which track off of "Words" was the most personalized?

Thank you so much! I really do feel it was a good representation of me 2019. I would say that “Changed” was the most personalized off the EP. It’s a song that I know I will always relate to, because we are constantly changing as people. But not only that, I think that song represents me transitioning into the artist I am today. When I wrote “Changed”, I was letting go of many things holding me back from happiness and personal freedom. I was moving on from a chapter in my life. Every time I hear it or sing it, it always brings me back to that release of my negative emotions. I think in the future, my music will be more personal like “Changed” was.

We really resonated with your track release of "broken letters". This track felt incredibly raw and vulnerable from your end. Is it difficult for you to synthesize this honest sounding within your music, or does it come naturally to you as an artist?

There’s kind of two sides to this answer. When I actually write these types songs - or any of my songs really - the realness comes naturally. It’s easily most honest when I write alone. But when I bring it to the studio, sometimes I have a hard time conveying that emotion for recording. Mainly because I’m so focused on things being technically good, and it’s overall just a different vibe. I’m most emotional when I perform live or write alone because I don’t think too hard about it. I’ve definitely come far with this over the past year though. I remind myself to be as raw as I was when I wrote it, when I record it. Regardless, I think for any person it will always be a little difficult to be open and honest with their feelings. Especially knowing it will out for the world to hear.

As a self-taught pianist, do you prefer to incorporate your own production soundings when it comes to piano, within your tracks?

I try to be open to new ideas in the studio. I think its important for me to grow as an artist and discover my true sound. I write almost all my songs with piano so I like to envision them with different production sounds and then compare the versions. However, because that acoustic sound is so real for me, I do hope to include more piano in my music for the future. But no promises! As I grow as an artist, I’m allowing this path to take me wherever it does, meaning my style could change without any of us seeing it coming.

Compared to your first project "Easily Broken" in 2014, how do you think your sound has progressed overall now that we're looking over your 2019 releases?!

Oh my goodness haha, I almost forgot about that! Easily Broken was a song I recorded the vocals for, but didn’t actually write. It was part of a multi-genre released album that I’m so grateful to have been a part of. It gave me one of my first experiences with originality and recording in a studio. My sound is definitely my own now. I think when I was asked to do that song, it was because it fit my voice well. I was still a kid, trying to learn how to use my voice right. Now I know my voice better than anyone (except maybe my amazing vocal coach!). But I don’t fit songs to my voice, I make them my own with my vocal features. I focus on the artistry in my sound and try to own that more than anything.

Thanks, Brianna! We love chatting with you about your sound and your musical creations over this past year! Where's the road headed for you now artistically?

I have so, so many great plans for my future as an artist, but I’m going to start with just 2020! I can’t exactly reveal all my goals, but some things planned include: new music (obviously!), music videos, & more shows to attend. To grow artistically, I also am trying to focus more on myself this year. Taking care of me and understanding my own choices. I think the more you reflect on why you do things, the better you understand yourself. The better I understand myself, the better I can express myself through song. Truly, I just want to continue to be a better songwriter every day. Thank you so much for having me again!
