We’re All Invited to the “After Party” Hosted by The Habits

Hailing from San Pedro, alt-pop duo The Habits release their warm and fun-loving single “After Party”.

Consisting of singer/guitarist Wolf Bradley and drummer Andrew Macatrao, The Habits have found their sound in the middle of the L.A. music scene with lots more to come.

Releasing their playful single “After Party,” The Habits bring in cheerful instrumentals giving us that upbeat pop feel. Sharing incredibly catchy melodies that ring around our brain for the remainder of the day, The Habits have also created a fun and conceptual music video taking place in the nightclub scene of 1994, baggy neon sweatsuits and all.

Starting off “After Party” and jumping right into the instrumental, Andrew Macatrao’s drums set off the upbeat and lively mood of the track while Wolf Bradley gives us those groovy electric guitar melodies. Singing playful lyrics of the natural energy you feel when getting into the “After Party,” the music video takes another playful turn. With scenes of The Habits in Vanilla Ice-style outfits returning to the back of the line after the bouncers wouldn’t let them in, we can feel the pure and unaltered vibe coming from The Habits as they create something for all of us to enjoy. Truly an uplifting song through energetic instrumentals and The Habits’ playful performance, “After Party” has us dancing in the late hours of the night.

Welcome to BuzzMusic, The Habits! We’re loving the energy off your latest upbeat single “After Party”. What sort of message or story did you want to portray with the single?

Thank you so much for talking to us! The concept for "AfterParty" is finding your confidence and growing as a person. The song is sung from the perspective of an inner monologue. I'm basically giving myself a pep talk. I'm coming to terms with the fact that who I am isn't the best version of myself and not who I want to be. We thought an afterparty is a cool setting to have this conversation because growing and finding yourself should be a celebration.

Your single “After Party” takes us on an uplifting journey through The Habits’ instrumentals. How did the two of you divide up the creative process to reach the end goal for “After Party?"

Going into this song we knew we wanted to keep the instrumentation really organic. The song started out as a simple drum groove paired with a bass line that kept the song moving and an acoustic guitar. We consciously didn't want to overwhelm the song instrumentally. Once the song was written, the two of us and our long time producer, Courtney Ballard, got into the studio and worked it out.

We’ve heard that The Habits create music that tells stories of love, loss, and everything in between. What inspired the two of you to write the inclusive single “After Party” and create something more energetic?

We've really felt a lot of personal growth in the last year of our lives. We've really come into our own as musicians and songwriters, but also as people. We've been reflecting a lot on the past and all the good things and bad things that have happened that really shaped who we are and want to be. This song is about accepting that not only do you want to, but you NEED to grow and that realization is difficult but worth throwing a party for. So, we wanted the song to be upbeat and fun to listen to.

Speaking on the music video for “After Party”, The Habits share these playful scenes of the two of you getting bounced from the club in 1994. Why did you decide to take this nostalgic and comical route with the music video?

We love 90's vibes. Plain and simple. Colorful. Loud. Just like us. We ourselves are goofballs and wanted to convey that in our art. We're not the type of guys that are just naturally cool and we are honestly not great at pretending to be. So, we took a route that better displays our personalities. Our band's whole mission is to be ourselves and be as authentic for our audience as possible. It was so much fun to make and we hope that that comes across when people watch it.

What can we expect to see next from The Habits?

We don't know when it will be released, but we finished recording our second EP the day before the lockdown started in March. It's full of songs that we are the proudest of so far and we are literally bursting with excitement to release it. "After Party" is a great introduction to this new age of The Habits. Again, we don't know exactly when, but we will have a lot more music for everyone soon.
