  • Petty Human Emotions Pays Tribute to Friends and an Old Hometown Legend on “Lady in the Lake”

The Los Angeles trio continues to impress with another strong release ahead of their second studio album. They aren’t maniacally overproduced, nor anywhere near the other extreme of exclusive lo-fi purists. However, Los Angeles outfit Petty Human Emotions has found a sweet spot that’s impressed listeners in a big way. Formed in early 2023 but already rocking out crowds with their electric presence, the transparently independent alternative rock outfit has quickly become known for its tight, energetic shows. Although they may be the new kids on the block, you’re going to want to keep an eye out for these rising stars. As they gear up for their highly anticipated second album “Outside,” Petty Human Emotions aren’t taking their foot off the gas; it’s full steam ahead. Although the band’s first album was a solo effort by frontman James Nardiello, he states that “Outside” allowed each member to leave their mark and lean into their style. Although this might seem risky, especially for a new band, their impressive chemistry once again results in a product that feels like the band’s been playing together for years. As the first single for “Outside,” expectations for Petty Human Emotion’s latest release, “Lady in the Lake,” will always be high. And they should be; on “Lady in the Lake,” Petty Human Emotions again prove that their artistic ability and musical vision are top-notch. It has all the hallmarks of an early alternative classic: the somber guitar gently easing us into the soundscape, sardonic self-awareness combined with thoughtful lyrics, and rolling drums and booming vocals later. Written in memory of a friend who drowned years back, “Lady In The Lake” is a touching tribute and a standout record. Despite “Outside” being their sophomore release, “Lady in the Lake” proves that Petty Human Emotion more than has what it takes. • Kat Von D Unveils New Single “Truth In Reverse” Ahead of Upcoming Album Release

The track is set to feature on her forthcoming album, My Side of the Mountain , which drops on September 20th. The single exemplifies Von D’s signature style, blending disco goth with synthwave, goth, and new wave influences. Her evocative lyrics, rooted in themes of love, darkness, and vulnerability, promise to mesmerize listeners with their haunting and romantic allure. “My Side of the Mountain” represents a deep personal reflection for Von D, drawing inspiration from the 1959 novel of the same name. The album, she explains, is a heartfelt exploration of confronting personal challenges and finding solace in authenticity rather than escapism. “It’s about accepting the things we can’t control and fighting for what matters,” Von D shares. • Crash The Calm Release New Single, “Rope”

Sometimes, it feels like you’re barely holding on. Formed in late 2014, Crash The Calm wasted no time making a name for themselves, quickly establishing themselves as a creative force with their well-received debut single “Holes” in 2015. Willing to leave everything on the stage in their pursuit of musical greatness, Crash The Calm’s dedication and non-stop touring eventually caught the eye of Long Island-based label Downport Records. The rest, as they say, is history, as the release of their debut full-length album “How’ve You Been” at VuDu Studios saw the band hit even greater heights, captivating audiences with standout singles like “The Ambient Sound of Traffic” and “Irish Exit.” If you’ve sensed a running theme here, there is one; Crash The Calm grind their asses off to bring their fans the releases they think you deserve. To achieve that, they keep working and honing their craft, pouring everything into their work. It’s hard to argue with the result of these efforts, too; the results speak for themselves. A split EP with Long Island post-hardcore band Staleworth was released to positive acclaim. At the same time, the similarly well-received concept record “A Town Named Nowhere” showed a new artistic side to the New York outfit, showcasing new artistic depth. Crash the Calm’s latest release, “Rope,” is sure to be a hit with fans of emo and post-hardcore. Vocalist James says, “Rope was meant to convey the frantic struggle to feel fine. Like panicked breaths above water”. To that effect, beautiful, melodic lines like “With a smile like cocaine / I sleep like I am dying for a ride” and “It’s either west or in a casket / You’re either dead or laying down” eventually give way to chaos on lines like “My love, take me under / Go down / Go down.” It feels like they’ve perfectly captured the feeling of barely keeping it together; it’s a delicate balancing act for sure, but one they’ve done well here. Pandemics, lineup changes; nothing looks like it’s going to get in the way of Crash The Calm’s ascent. Whenever you’re ready, tap in and stream their new release, “Rope,” out now on all major streaming platforms. Instagram Official Website

Selena Victoria’s latest release, “Dancin’ on My Own,” might initially sound melancholic, but listeners will soon find there’s a message of personal strength hidden within. Whenever you’re ready, tap in and stream Selena Victoria’s latest release, “Dancin’ on My Own,” out now on all major streaming platforms. Welcome back to Buzz, Selena Victoria! It’s always a pleasure, you always bring your A-game! We loved “Dancin’ on My Own”, could you take us through the creative process for this release? A pleasure to be back! Thank you so much! I’m so happy you enjoyed the single. It is definitely a favorite of mine to ever be written and recorded. The creative process for writing and recording “Dancin’ On My Own” was quite a fun one. I had this song in my back pocket for quite some time. I wrote it back in 2019 when I first ever experienced liberation from the depths of heartbreak. After healing from such heartbreak, I felt this overwhelming shift inside me, and I then decided from that point on that I was going to fully choose and love myself - flaws and all. I didn’t feel it was the right time to release the track, as I knew I had more growth and evolving to do, which is why this track came out when it did. It was a five-year wait, but in my opinion, it was worth the wait as this track fully embodies where I am currently in my life. When I brought the song to my producer, he knew exactly what kind of sound I wanted. We just had so much fun with the recording of it - as I’ve always done with every song I’ve recorded - and it just became this beautiful piece of art that I knew so many people would be able to relate to. The embodiment and the essence of what it means to feel truly free. For anyone who isn’t as familiar with you and your story, what inspired you to take that initial step to start pursuing music seriously, and what motivates you to make music now? What inspired me to pursue music more seriously was my passion and drive for it. I have always loved music and have been writing and singing since I was a young girl, but what made me dive in head first was my overwhelming desire to achieve everything I’ve ever wanted in this industry. To achieve the vision, I knew nobody but myself could see. I’ve always felt I was made for so much more, and I truly believe every desire that is placed in your soul is a desire that you are meant to achieve and a risk worth taking. What motivates me now more than ever are my endless experiences of happiness, love, sadness, adventure, danger, and ecstasy. Every experience in my life has made me who I am and who I will be. Those moments inspire great talent out of me and new material to be created. What do you think is the most important quality for a musician to have?  The most important qualities I believe every musician should have is persistence, passion, and drive to never give up, no matter what the odds. When you love what you do, and you enjoy the creation process more than the rewards it reaps, that is when you know you have something special - something worth taking a chance for. I also believe that personal experiences - which obviously heavily influence musicians the most - are just as equally important. When you use those emotions and those backstories to create something magical with the intention of wanting to be a voice for somebody out there, you truly have a valuable piece of art. I very much believe every musician somehow conveys their real-life scenarios into their songs, knowing people will be able to relate to them and resonate with them. If your fans could take one thing away from your music, what would you want it to be?  If my fans could take away one thing from my music, I would definitely want it to be the message to always love yourself and chase your dreams no matter how far-fetched they may seem. Nothing is impossible. As a talented and wise Legend once said, “Always believe the impossible is possible” - Selena Quintanilla Perez. The beautiful Tejano singer I was named after. I truly carry that quote with me wherever I go because she’s right. Even the things we think are impossible are, in fact, possible. Every dream is worth the wait, every desire is worth the risk, and every step is worth your time if you truly feel it's what's meant for you. Don’t give up, and love yourself through every high and low. What’s next for Selena Victoria, and is there anything you’d like to say to your fans? What’s next for me is the filming of the music video for my new single, “Dancin’ On My Own.” I have an incredibly talented team I will be working with to create this video, and I am super excited that people will see it.  The song itself is definitely more Rnb than it is Pop, however for the video we will be incorporating so many different elements to capture the vision I see in my mind for this song. I know, without a doubt, it is going to be magical. I’m so excited! The one thing I want to say to my fans is how much I love and adore every single one of you. How grateful I am for your unconditional love and support, and how thankful I am to have you all on this journey with me. It's truly been a wild ride, but having my fans there every step of the way is the biggest inspiration for me to keep going. I love my fans so deeply and I can not thank them enough for being such an amazing influence on my life. Thank you so much for having me once again, Buzz; as always, it's been an absolute pleasure!  Instagram

Luca Lowe's harmonies in the intro lock us in for the ride, guided by the tender bass licks and alluring production, balanced out with Luca's heavenly vocals that yearn for someone's presence. It's a hypnotizing song that's bound to put this young artist on the map. Experience the bittersweet journey of young adulthood with Luca Lowe's "Stonefruit" and "My Bluff," now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to Buzz, Luca! We can't get enough of your immersive new singles, "Stonefruit" and "My Bluff." What inspired you to release these two tracks together?  Initially, I just liked the way they sounded together. But after repeatedly listening to them side by side, I started to uncover their similarities. I wrote each song within a day in the studio, though with different producers and months apart. To me, their stories are two sides of the same coin. “My Bluff” is about somebody romanticizing parts of you that you don't necessarily like, and I used “Stonefruit” to try out a flirtatious personality. The voice I invented for “Stonefruit” felt like the very facade I wanted to dismantle in “My Bluff.” Ultimately they are both lonely songs about feeling perceived. Both "Stonefruit" and "My Bluff" touch on different aspects of relationships. What experiences inspired you to write about them?  The songs are based on quite different romantic experiences. “My Bluff” was written after I did something I shouldn’t have and was losing sleep over it. I went from my sleepless night straight to the studio with Botaii. The writing emerged out of this fever pitch of guilt, self-loathing, and confusion. I was using the song to unearth why I had done what I did. In writing the song, I could finally articulate this frustration I had been feeling: that a lot of people around me were drawn to me for something that I didn't like in myself.  “Stonefruit” came less of from an experience and more of a mood. I was visiting a friend in Toronto from New York City to write and record. It was about the stifling New York heat, the chaos in the City in the summer and the desire to be met in my withdrawn exhaustion. Where did you want to take "Stonefruit" and "My Bluff" in terms of production and sound? Can you tell us about your creative process in the studio?  On “My Bluff,” I came up with the idea that I wanted to make something that felt like a choir. I resonate more with songs that are sonically low, usually with a lot of 808s and vocal clarity. I typically have two different approaches in the studio. These two songs came from the first approach, where a producer is sitting up by the monitor, or the piano or synth, or whatever, I'm sitting behind them on a couch, or a bed, or the floor. As they're building out their sections I am writing melody and lyrics over it. It feels like the best crossword of all time.  The second approach is that I come in with something written and I help find the shape with whoever I’m working with. At times, this is far more challenging because I start with an intention, and it’s practically a coincidence that my producer shares that same vision. When it does click, it's really fun because I get to see a song that started on just my piano or guitar transform into this huge, fleshed-out piece. With either approach, when something is working, it really feels like we are uncovering something that already exists rather than creating something with endless possibilities. "Stonefruit" captures a very specific feeling of summer in New York. How does the city influence your songwriting?  The place is so overstimulating that it gives me a lot of material to work with. Every emotion is heightened in the City. I love the constant influx of information, and writing is my way to synthesize that at the end of the day. Because New York is relentlessly chaotic, I’m forced to carve out time and be more intentional about when I write, which has been really good for me. A lot of the songwriters I most admire also spent prolific periods of their career in New York: Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Ella Fitzgerald, Carole King, Lana Del Ray, and Samia. And they all come from a storytelling tradition of songwriting that I aspire to. While I love New York, I kind of hate it in the summer. Everything feels labored and sweaty. It makes me want to throw my hands up and hope that things come to me. The production of “Stonefruit” mirrors that humid lethargy. What was your goal with "Stonefruit" and "My Bluff" in terms of the listener's experience? What did you want them to feel and take away?   For better or for worse, this is something that I rarely think about. A lot of (if not all) the music I write is to help me work through something. It’s incredibly cathartic to pull these feelings and thoughts out of my head and then be able to listen back to them; it really calms the chatter in my head. I often have trouble talking about things I’m going through, especially romantically, but ever since I was in middle school, once I’ve written a song about it, I can let go a little bit. I always assume that a lot of my emotions and reactions are singular, but now that I’ve begun to share my music, I feel incredibly lucky and surprised when someone tells me that one of my songs struck a chord with them, too.  With “My Bluff,” in particular, I had to sift through a lot of emotions to get to the root of the problem. I had to sort past all of the guilt to really understand what resentment led me to my actions. In the end, feeling like the person you're dating is projecting something onto you was a really lonely feeling. I hope this song provides company in those moments.  Instagram
