  • Satellite Train Wants To See You Fly On Newest Release, “Wings”

Sometimes, you have to give yourself the freedom to fly high. Straight from the vibrant music scene of the streets of Melbourne in the Land Down Under, Satellite Train exploded onto the scene and immediately set themselves apart from their peers with their releases. A collective of seasoned musicians whose diverse backgrounds converge to create rich tapestries of indie rock sounds, Satellite Train is a testament to the amazing things that can happen when you gather like-minded people. As they continue to shake the scene up one release at a time, the sky seems to be the limit for this dynamic collective. Comprised of veterans from iconic acts like Icehouse, James Reyne, and Paul Kelly, along with esteemed collaborators from the US, Satellite Train is a testament to the uniting power of music and shared experiences. At the core of Satellite Train’s artistic ethos lies a commitment to authenticity and emotional resonance, and this raw authenticity permeates their music, forging a deep connection with listeners who crave sincerity and depth in their musical journey. While you can detect hints of the band’s indie-rock origins on their latest release, “Wings,” the band’s expansive sonic palette becomes abundantly clear the more you listen. “Just spread your wings beneath the burning sun,” they sing passionately, reaching out to the hearts of listeners. Regularly incorporating elements of jazz, pop, and gospel, the members of Satellite Train skillfully blend these influences on “Wings” to bring you a complete release that dazzles and engages with emotional depth. As Satellite Train continues to captivate audiences with its genre-defying sound and authentic storytelling, they are poised to leave an indelible mark on the global music landscape. Whenever you’re ready, tap in and stream Satellite Train’s new release, “Wings,” on all majour streaming platforms. Welcome to Buzz, Satellite Train! We loved your latest release, “Wings,” so we had to ask what inspired this release. Can you take us through the creative process for it? Thank you! The album revolves around the theme of freedom and having the courage to pursue things that inspire you and your desired path in life. While some of the debut album songs focus entirely on that theme, this one also explores the struggle of a parent, loved one, or even a friend wanting to control or protect someone they love who has these desires while also allowing them to follow their own path, even if it means they will be confronted with real pitfalls and challenges. In some cases, that desire to protect goes too far, and they may prevent the person they love from finding their desired destiny. The song inspires individuals to pursue activities that truly bring them joy. As far as our creative process goes, the songs on “The Melbourne Sessions” were written on piano or with an acoustic guitar, taking at most 30 minutes to an hour to get the lyrics and chords down and a basic song structure. From there, we don’t rehearse the songs; we go into the studio, and what you hear is the first or second take of the musicians recording the songs. So, we never know how a song will sound. It’s just whatever the band members happen to play in that take. What’s your favorite part of the creative process as a group when it comes to creating music? Songwriting is a lot of fun. It’s never forced and is drawn from real emotions in that moment of time. It's interesting to see that translate to a final song in an improvised way in the studio. Although the songs may go in any direction, interestingly, they don’t stray much from what the song was when it was written on a piano or an acoustic guitar. How did the Satellite Train first come to be? Give us the origin story! Satellite Train is not your traditional band at all. It’s a fun side project for all the musicians. It all started with a rehearsal where we just jammed, and things just clicked. The chemistry was really good. We have never had a rehearsal since. Originally, we would work on the music and build melodies and lyrics over that. It was very experimental, but through that process, the songs lacked emotion and sounded disconnected, although they had really interesting musical ideas. The rehearsal was promising, but things were a bit flat from there. That was until we got together for a weekend session, and things changed. We got back to that improvised approach that generated a little magic in that initial rehearsal, and things just clicked. That weekend session is our debut album, “The Melbourne Sessions.” If your audience could take one thing away from your music, what would you want it to be? We hope it might be that they can relate to the songs in some way, that there is something in their lives that a song might have relevance to, and that whatever that song may be, it gives them a good feeling or inspires them in some way. For us, it’s all about the songs, nothing else. What’s next for Satellite Train? Is there anything you’d like to say to your fans? There is more than meets the eye for fans who hear “The Melbourne Sessions.” As the year progresses, fans will hear another dimension of those songs if one of our out-of-the-box ideas works. While Satellite Train may be a tiny speck on the musical map and entirely irrelevant compared to Taylor Swift, Taylor and her team's inclination for experimentation and out-of-the-box ideas is evident and something we also strive to do. So when Taylor releases new music, there's a slight hope that she hasn't ventured into the same territory we're exploring. The mystery was revealed this morning, and it wasn't precisely what we’re trying to do. But having said that, we might wake up tomorrow morning to find out they have another surprise that is exactly what we're attempting, and they would likely execute it even better. We may not have a large audience, but those who follow and appreciate the band will have the opportunity to experience something a little unique if it all works out. We also want to release a song we recorded, which is a cover song, but none of the musicians knew it was a cover when we did it. So, it was performed as if it were an original. Lastly, we’ve been somewhat prolific since “The Melbourne Sessions,” so we have plenty of new material to release in the years ahead. Instagram

  • Super Love Unpacks The Emotionally Fueled New Single, "Tell Me"

Welcome back to Buzz, Super Love! We love your new release, “Tell Me,” a song about apathy and searching for emotion. This is a darker song than your others. Can you tell us about your inspiration for the song? “Tell Me” came from the darkness of winter, the emotionless stagnation that can stem from isolation and a loss of purpose. But “Tell Me” is also about wanting to break free. About wanting more from the world, craving a brighter emotional state. Your sound on “Tell Me” uses a 7/4 time signature and an interesting blend of instrumentation. What was your process for creating such a unique sound? Doing an alt-rock-pop song in 7/4 timing felt like a challenge that hadn’t been met before. So we wanted to do it! We started with a bass groove in 7 and built it from there. We were loosely inspired by Marcus Miller’s use of electric bass with a synth bass. By alternating between classical rock instrumentation and the grinding retro synth, we created an atmosphere of unease that perfectly embodied the mood of the lyrics. We love that this song is a duet. What inspired you to do that? “Tell Me” is based on reality being created from an emotion. Because emotions are so subjective, we wanted to bring something concrete into the song to emphasize the truth of feelings. We created this song as a duet to combine our shared emotional perceptions. Sharing it makes it feel more real. We hope the contrast of our voices is interesting. Musically, a lot is happening in “Tell Me,” so we used this vocal contrast as a traditional hook to keep our audience engaged. “Tell Me” follows the passionate struggle through apathy and back to a more emotional state. Can you share a story of a time when apathy took over? One recent winter, we lived in a very rural town on a lake up north—so far north that the winter days were shorter than I could have imagined. With so little sunlight and so few people, it was easy to become detached—detached from the world, detached from the rhythms of each day, even detached from emotion. It was a strange thing to embody—a sense of complete aloneness. Yet we were both feeling it. We were together in our aloneness. Being so overwhelmed with being alone turned into a sadness that grew so big it was easier just to turn it off. “Tell Me” is about living in apathy, desperate to break out. Begging for help to see the sunlight, a jumpstart into feeling. What’s next for Super Love? Can we expect to hear more new music soon? We’re so excited about what’s coming! We’re working to round out our second album and looking forward to releasing it. We’re also eying collaboration, especially with an EDM artist–we’re looking forward to making an alt-pop-rock-EDM mashup! We also just published a book, Super Love: The Music of Je T’Aime. It gives you an inside look at how we created our first album, from our conceptual approach and artistic vision to our choice of technologies and effects. • JWAVY Pays Homage To A Seattle Legend On “BEASTMODE”

What do you know about how they get down in the city? Somewhere deep within the bustling streets of Seattle, an exciting new voice has emerged in the hip-hop scene. With a lineage deeply tied to the local hip-hop scene and more than enough ability to do this lineage justice, JWAVY has found a way to carry on her family tradition while carving her own path. As she continues to blaze her trail in the Seattle music scene, JWAVY proves she is the woman to watch, inspiring others to follow her lead and never back down. Drawing inspiration from her upbringing and guided by her brother's expertise, JWAVY has honed her craft to perfection, delivering a sound uniquely her own. With her smooth vocals and vibrant energy apparent on every release, she’s captivated her listeners with her passion and dynamic presence. Taking her name inspiration from her high school years and the well-defined musical vision that’s set her apart from her peers, JWAVY continues to prove why she’s one of the most exciting acts in the industry today every time she drops a release. Perhaps fittingly, JWAVY's latest release, “BEASTMODE,” pays homage to her favorite football player, Seattle Seahawks legend Marshawn Lynch. Over a gritty instrumental that pays homage to the city’s traditional sound, JWAVY radiates confidence as she raps lines like “Shooter to the right/green light yea no cheat code.” Also featuring her brother MARIBASED1 and a music video that sees JWAVY’s infectious charisma practically leak from the screen as she raps against the backdrop of Seattle’s city lights, “BEASTMODE” is an all-around exciting release. With her smooth lyrical flow and infectious energy, JWAVY is not just any hip-hop artist; she’s a force to be reckoned with and a rising star. Whenever you’re ready, tap in and stream JWAVY’s new release, “BEASTMODE,” on all majour streaming platforms. Check out the music video on YouTube as well. Welcome to Buzz, JWAVY! We loved “BEASTMODE,” and love how you pay homage to your city! We had to ask what it was like to make this release. Could you take us through the creative process? Thank you! I appreciate the support! Making BEASTMODE itself was a song that, believe it or not, was put together sort of like a puzzle piece. My verse on the song was originally created for an open verse challenge on Instagram, I was feeling, but eventually, it went into the vault. One day, I was writing and came up with the hook to BEASTMODE. I found the beat I thought fit for it, produced by DJ FunkDaddy, and boom, BEASTMODE was created. Originally I went to record the song solo with the help of my big bro Maribased1 but once he heard the song he immediately wanted to hop on it. It definitely pushes us both at the end of the day. When it came to the visuals, I was able to work with the talented Ife, aka Video Dope Dealer, and his team out in Eugene, Oregon. We were able to come up with some dope visual ideas together and make it all come to life. It was a lot of fun shooting the video. Being able to bring my first single to life with its own music video is an unmatched feeling. It's a memory I will keep forever, especially being able to do it with two of my biggest musical influences, my big bro Maribased1, and my dad, Mr. Benjamin. Who were your biggest musical inspirations growing up, and how did they affect your music? Besides my dad and big brother Maribased1, I really grew up on Missy Elliot, Ciara, Keisha Cole, Nicki Minaj, and Soulja Boy, to name a few. Growing up, I didn’t know that I would pursue music, so I never really paid attention to why I considered an artist my favorite. But looking back at it now, I definitely draw from those favs in my music today. Missy was simply ahead of her time and so different and in her own lane, and I implemented some of that in my own work. I love to be different from everyone else, especially against my competition. When it comes to the content of my music, I definitely shy away from the typical sex talk, drugs, gang influence, and so on that a lot of rap artists blow up from. Instead, I like to keep it true to myself and who I am as a person and keep my lyrics catchy and memorable while simultaneously relatable to the greater public. What’s been your favorite part of your musical journey thus far? My favorite part of my musical journey so far will no doubt be performances. Whether it’s concerts, club appearances, showcases, or open mics, I love to perform and showcase my music. This is my favorite part of my musical journey because it brings validation to me that my artwork is good. Right now, nine times out of ten, I’m performing in front of people who don’t know me from Adam and Eve. So when I can have those same people in the audience chanting my name and saying my lyrics with me, it’s the FIRST TIME they’ve ever heard my music. Man, it’s a feeling I can’t even describe. It’s a feeling that fuels my drive to keep going, honestly. What goals do you want to achieve through your music? I want to become a multi-platinum female rap artist of the next generation of Seattle music to blow up the mainstream. That’s the biggest goal I have for myself when it comes to my music. And I want to blow up organically, where my music can touch everybody so when people think of JWAVY, they automatically think of a God-fearing young woman who really spits bars with a northern flow so versatile that JWAVY is someone who can create songs for everyone out there, not just a specific group of people. I aim to shine a more positive light on the stigma around rap and hip-hop music. And that a person doesn’t have to pretend to be someone they’re not to be successful in the rap game. See, I graduated from the University of Washington, I’m entrepreneurial-minded and own my own business; I’m a leader in my community mentoring teens and young adults. You can even say I’m a square, yes, but definitely not no punk. All that being said, that’s not stopping me from staying true to who I am while also pursuing my musical dreams and letting my talent speak for itself. What’s next for JWAVY, and is there anything you’d like to say to your fans? My album WAVESZN is dropping soon, on May 10th, and will be available on all platforms. Pre-sale is available now, and I’ll drop the link below. Stay on the lookout for new music videos soon with songs off my upcoming album. Other than that, I have some performances lined up this summer, so my fans can stay tuned for more info as they come closer. And to my fans, I appreciate all the love and support you’ve given me thus far. Believe me when I say y’all love does not go unnoticed. I wouldn’t be doing the things I’m doing if it wasn’t for y’all, and that’s real. Instagram Facebook

  • Stefany Bryan Wears Her Heart On Her Sleeve In “Skin and Bones and Stuff”

Recently stepping behind the microphone is classically-trained pianist and singer-songwriter Stefany Bryan with her latest vulnerable release, "Skin and Bones and Stuff," from her 12-track album I Don't Do Pity Parties Unless They're For Me. Stefany Bryan has been laying her emotions through piano chords for the past 12 years, with classical training under her belt. It wasn't until recently that she stepped into a new spotlight, one as a singer-songwriter who draws from life's struggles to portray relatable experiences through song and sound. The same can be said about her recent tune, "Skin and Bones and Stuff," from her dynamic album, I Don't Do Pity Parties Unless They're For Me. Known for spilling truths about raw emotions, sadness, and loneliness through simple melodies and lyrics, Stefany Bryan offers precisely that in this new song. Diving deeper into "Skin and Bones and Stuff," we're met with tender piano melodies alongside Stefany Bryan's breathy and velvety vocals that express the chemical and physical composition of the human structure. But beyond that, there's a soul longing to be appreciated, and Stefany Bryan puts that into words beautifully. She has no problem capturing the listener's attention with simple yet powerful lyrics that make you think twice. The song's melodies are like a lullaby, swaying us in the breeze of Bryan's vocals while reflecting on the human experience, its peaks and valleys, and longing for connection as we ride out life's chaos. It's a deeply relatable song that perfectly introduces listeners to the captivating stylings of Stefany Bryan. Experience it yourself and find "Skin and Bones and Stuff" on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to Buzz, Stefany! We love the raw emotion you poured into your recent release, "Skin and Bones and Stuff." What inspired you to create this song in particular? I think the inspiration came from a feeling of defeat and an actualization that we are all just humans and very fragile and how amazing and crazy it can be that we feel certain ways, such as love and lust about humans, all in our fragile state. How does "Skin and Bones and Stuff" relate to the theme and concept of your 12-track album, I Don't Do Pity Parties Unless They're For Me? Overall, the album discusses feelings and emotions through a lens of self-awareness. It asks big questions and reflects on thoughts and ideas. This song, like the album, attempts to take a little bit of accountability over my feelings and portray a kind of realism when it comes to liking someone. Which song from I Don't Do Pity Parties Unless They're For Me were you the most vulnerable? Was it challenging to be so honest and open when creating it? I would actually say my most vulnerable song off the album is "Lessons to a Younger Me" because I think a lot of times we make ourselves vulnerable when it comes to relationships and loss, but this song is different because it's about me and only me. It completely exposed a time in my life when I was struggling mentally, and I believed that maybe my life wasn't worth living. If you notice in the song, I ask questions and answer all of them except for the one, "Do we ever learn to love ourselves?" I specifically did this because I feel as if I am still learning to love and accept myself, so I did not answer it. I think just putting those words and concepts out there can be scary, but it also feels really good, to be honest, in my lyrics. So, at the end of the day, being truthful is not that challenging when that is the aim of my art. Did you work alongside musicians or producers when creating "Skin and Bones and Stuff?" Who helped you bring this song to life? For this song in particular, I actually did not. I wrote and composed all of it myself. This album was the first time I worked with Logic, so I could play around with layers and other effects on my own, which felt very empowering because I had more control over my music. Before this album, I would just record and get my songs mixed and mastered in one day. But this time, since I had the program on my computer, I had more time to revisit the song and edit. While everything was arranged myself, I would like to mention that I did have help with recording from my artist friend, Human Name, and my engineer, Salvi, who did all the mixing and mastering. What message or concept did you want listeners to take away from "Skin and Bones and Stuff?" What was your goal in that respect? I guess the concept of this song is a bit sad and romantic. But more hopeless romantic. That's, again, kind of where self-awareness comes in. I think we all have felt this way at one time or another, so creating a song that evokes emotions that resonate with people is another goal of mine. Instagram Facebook

  • The Honest Poet’s Raw Exploration Into The Darker Side Of Love

For those who've tasted love's sweetness and felt its bitter sting, The Honest Poet's sophomore EP, 'Love Complexity,' speaks directly to your soul. With soulful vocals and raw, honest lyrics, the South Wales-based singer-songwriter offers a heartfelt and unfiltered journey into the complex world of love. Drawing from a diverse array of influences ranging from Sam Cooke to J. Cole, The Honest Poet seamlessly blends elements of R&B, soul, hip hop, and spoken word to craft a distinctive sound that evokes comparisons to artists like Ady Sulieman and Dermot Kennedy. With ‘Love Complexity,’ he ventures into darker thematic territory, diverging from the romantic narratives of his debut album (Letters To My Queen), which intricately tells the love story of The Honest Poet and his fiancé. Collaborating with fellow Welsh artist and producer MINAS, The Honest Poet shapes a musical landscape that perfectly complements the EP's emotional depth. 'Love Complexity' is a fearless exploration of the intricate dynamics of love, with each track delving into a different aspect of this complex emotion. From the raw depiction of domestic abuse in ‘Toxic City’ to the poignant portrayal of the complexities of being a 'side-chick' in ‘Suffocated,’ The Honest Poet's lyrics navigate the tumultuous terrain of relationships with raw emotion and unfiltered honesty. This emotional depth invites listeners to confront the multifaceted nature of love in its rawest form. Of the EP, he said, “Minas has helped me sculpt an identity musically. The creative process of this project (like my album) has been a mixture of me sending little ideas vocally and samples that I chopped up and, occasionally, going into the studio. With the EP, he understood that it was more of an emotional project. The atmospheric piano input and the sounds used help amplify.” The Honest Poet’s latest venture resonates with a broader audience and proudly embraces its Welsh roots. The EP’s focus track, ‘No Good,’ features the compelling spoken word poet Rowen Brittany's unmistakable Welsh accent, adding a distinct flavor and immersing listeners in the region's cultural richness. The synergy between. Coupled with the skillful production from MINAS, ‘Love Complexity’ emerges as a formidable collection of songs that further solidify Wales as a vibrant hub of musical creativity. Of ‘No Good,’ The Honest Poet says, “’ No Good’ is a breakup song about heartache. This song is the most atmospheric one, featuring a spoken-word poet named Rowen Brittany. I chose her because of her raw approach to her writing style and delivery." Instagram

Landing on the EP's sixth and final track, "Promise," we're greeted with aching strings that play a melancholy melody alongside tender pianos and distant drums. As KALEN's breathy vocals enter the space, she sings a song of hope, one that reminds listeners that our wreckage does not define us. There's always another day worth waking for, and although life has its challenges, Death By Piano reminds us just how valuable this life really is. If you're in search of a powerful listening experience that transports you through all sorts of feelings, experiences, and emotions, hit play on Death By Piano's new 6-track EP, VOW, now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to Buzz, Death By Piano! We loved “Vow,” and we just had to ask what the inspiration behind such a unique release was! The birth of my first child, looking out for oneself in this life, a deep betrayal and righteous rage, almost losing my father and coming to terms with my parent's mortality, the ongoing work it takes to be true to a partner and oneself, and seeing the myth of Pandora through a modern, feminist lens. What was the hardest part of your music journey when you were starting out? It's just as hard now as when I was starting out—maybe harder. I'm a mom with a family, and I despise self-promotion and social media. It's a hustle to get heard. One has to love doing it regardless and keep looking for the magic. What does music mean to you, and what advice would you give any aspiring musicians out there right now? Music is the way I process myself, the world, and myself navigating the world. To "aspiring" musicians: You're not aspiring if you're making music—you are a musician. Just keep creating, mining for inspiration, working on craft, and finding great collaborators. If your audience could take on thing away from your music, what would you want it to be? Feel your feelings. What’s next for Death By Piano? Is there anything you want to say to your fans? The live experience is becoming such an important part of the presentation. I hope you all can come to shows, and -- if not -- check out some recent live footage in addition to listening to the tracks. Instagram Facebook

With sounds spanning psychedelia, dub reggae, funk, soul, and more, Free Whenever aims to challenge the traditional definitions of psychedelic music. Now releasing their third single and feature from their upcoming album in May, Free Whenever, the band's latest release, "Calypso," is a groove and a half. It's the perfect introduction to the group, who are already tearing up their stomping grounds and headlining major venues. Diving deeper into "Calypso," the experience opens with an exciting foot-stomping beat, a driving drum and bass groove, sweet percussive guitar licks, and rich percussion. They pack so much in such a short amount of time, and this track is allegedly regarded as the brand's 'bounciest' song to date. We'd completely agree. "Calypso" has everything a good song should, including a killer groove that makes you move your feet. It's clear that Free Whenever has mastered one crucial thing: the ability to tell stories without a single lyric. Their instrumentals are enough to transport listeners into new worlds, one where you can interpret the story as you please. Take it from us; this dynamic song is a must-add to your playlist. Experience it yourself and feast your ears on the rich sonic world of Free Whenever's latest single, "Calypso," now available on all digital streaming platforms. Instagram Facebook
