One of the most beautiful things about music is its ability to make you feel.
Although lyrics tell a story, well-crafted instrumentals have the same ability to move you, and sometimes music and art are more powerful when there are no words to be said. Hailing from Maryland, DC, and the Virginia area, C.Me (pronounced see-dot-me) has already established herself as a force to be reckoned with in instrumental music. With four released albums, she’s been steadily building up an impressive body of work and is poised for a breakout year.
A 35th Wammie Award Nominee finalist for Best Electronica/Techno Song, C.Me’s sound is a dynamic blend of cosmic beats and instrumentals that envelop the listener in an expansive yet refined soundscape. She draws inspiration from both the East and West Coast music scenes. She skillfully blends her diverse influences to provide a final product and sound that is undeniably equal parts soulful, powerful, and cohesive.
C.Me’s “WATERR” flip is the latest result of C.Me’s artistic abilities. The herald for her upcoming release “CDOTWORLD” (out on April 5th), “WATERR,” is an incredibly appetizing taste of what’s to come. It’s a perfect representation of the sound C.Me has come to embody; the instrumentals take you through the stars to another galaxy, and as you progress through the musical journey that is “WATERR,” you get the feeling that you’re on the verge of something great. There’ll be good things to come, no doubt.
C. Me’s “WATERR” is an excellent introduction to a talented musician at the top of her game. Whenever you’re ready, tap in and stream “WATERR” (C. Me Remix), available now on all major streaming platforms.
Welcome to BuzzMusic, C.Me! “WATERR" was so incredibly dope! Could you take us through your creative process when making this song?
I am honored to have BuzzMusic conduct my first interview as a solo artist for my song “WATERR.” The creative process was fun and refreshing because I was first inspired by another music producer called Phluze, who created a 60-sec intro/snippet of the beat, "Waters.” Then I decided to take things from there by infusing his snippet with my stank, and the rest is making history! I use this handheld music-producing interface that allows me and my music studio to be mobile no matter where I am, allowing full creative fluidity I feel that more producers should do duets with other producers, so the song WATERR was my homage to that movement.
How did you get into music in the first place? Give us the C.Me origin story.
Music and arts have been embedded into my bloodline ever since I can remember. To this day, my dad is a DJ down in ATL, where he spins music for special needs adults and for his roadside movement tour for the “Stop The Violence” campaign, so his record/album collection is immaculate. This gave me access to the best artists and music in history. My mom has constantly introduced me to a world of art, so tying these two together, I have always had a passion for creating and being creative, and I chose to one day discover my sound through the art of music producing.
What is your favorite musical memory to date?
My favorite musical memory has to be when I met Dawn from EnVogue. During her autograph signing after her starring in a play at the Warner Theater in DC, I asked if she would sing a snippet of my favourite song with me from her group. Then when she did, and we harmonized, I was musically fulfilled! She is such a sweetheart for that, a memory I shall cherish forever.
Your new album, “CDOTWORLD,” is out soon (April 5th, 2023, save the date!). What was it like seeing this project come to life?
It was like being on an emotional rollercoaster that, this time, I chose to go on and enjoy the ride. Playing around with different formations of sounds, finally finishing beats that I had been stuck on for 2 pandemic years and being vulnerable in areas I avoided when writing music helped me bring this project to life.
What was your favorite part of the creative process for bringing this project to life?
Rediscovering my voice in my genre was my favorite part of the creative process for bringing CODTWORLD to life. I began music production because it gave me a sense of freedom in creating a world with its own soundtrack that people could share with me, but it also gave me a break from singing. I began feeling like I was trying to sound like other famous artists to gain popularity. Still, once I began singing my music, everything started falling beautifully into place. I have a deep singing voice, and CDOTWORLD has allowed me to flex on that rather than avoid it. So this entire creation process and seeing it come to fruition has been rejuvenating.
What’s next for C.Me after “CDOTWORLD?” Do you have any other big plans for the year?
Oh yes! I am so excited to be a finalist at the 2023 Wammie Awards on April 1st in Washington DC for Best Electronica/Techno song for “WATERR” where I have the opportunity to meet and collab with so many prominent artists whom I admire and watch grow into a local and international powerhouse just from being affiliated with the Wammies. Such as Ari Lennox, Rico Nasty, and Beau J. Prince, to name a few, and to watch them be Grammy nominated and winners, I feel so honored to be chosen for this opportunity. I plan on taking over every airwave as much as possible. Placements in tv/film/commercials/radio etc., because I believe everything deserves its own soundtrack and we need more female producers, so here I am, world, now welcome to mine!
