The LA-based songstress can’t help but feel like she keeps falling into old patterns in her enthralling new release.

Hunter Blair Ambrose is a dynamic pop singer-songwriter and musician from New York, NY, and is currently based in Los Angeles, CA. Recognized for her commanding vocals, expansive range, and captivating visuals, Ambrose has made big splashes in the scene, weaving together alluring production and thought-provoking lyrics to create an immersive artistic experience for her audience. By embracing contemporary pop and R&B influences, she has created a distinctive sound that will surely resonate with listeners worldwide.

Exposed to music at an early age, Hunter embarked on her musical journey under the guidance of Grammy Award-winning producer Narada Michael Walden at the tender age of 17. Under Walden's mentorship, she would make huge strides in her musical development, recording and co-writing her initial works as an artist in 2013. However, in what would quickly become a theme for her, she was eager to push her musical boundaries and further refine her craft, enrolling at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, where she crossed paths with fellow musicians and producers who would eventually become her core team.

Hunter's creative vision materialized in her debut EP, “Scorpio Rising,” released in 2020, and her subsequent studio album, “Scorpio Season,” in 2021. The lead single, “November,” propelled her into the spotlight, becoming a viral sensation. Her most recent release, “Runaway,” is a glossy, alluring two-and-a-half-minute offering of pure sonic pop bliss. Over spunky, perfectly arranged pop instrumentals with hints of subtle electronic, Ambrose’s vocals still manage to steal the show. “Runaway” will accompany an enthralling music video directed by Andrew Morales, known for his work with popular streetwear retailer Dover Street Market and prestigious fashion weeks worldwide. Overall, “Runaway” is a breathtaking piece of new music from a songstress operating at the peak of her significant musical talent and ability.

Welcome to BuzzMusic, Hunter Blair Ambrose! We loved “Runaway”; everything from the instrumentals to the chorus to your vocals felt so polished and captivating! We wanted to ask what it was like to make “Runaway” and how you initially felt after hearing the completed recording.

Thank you so much for the kind words on RUNAWAY. The song means a lot to me as it represents a new beginning in my life and artistry. This song came from an idea I had during a session back in 2021. Knowing it could be special, I kept the lyrical ideas and melodies aside. It wasn't until 2022 that I brought it to my producer and frequent collaborator, Jason Strong, and we brought it to life together. Production and vocals were finished by the new year, and I heard it finished around February. It was such a surreal feeling to hear something that took literally years to become a completed track, be complete, and sound so breathtaking. I immediately knew that the sonics would represent a change in sound to my audience, and I was thrilled about that since I'm always trying to push myself.

You mentioned you also have a music video on the way for “Runaway”! What can your fans expect to see in the video without giving too much away?

There is a music video for RUNAWAY in the works. It will be directed by Andrew Morales, who shot this song's single cover and promotional shoot. We decided to set the video half in New York and half in Los Angeles to bring the story in the song to life. Since the song is partially about me leaving my home and past behind me to chase my dreams in LA and the person I could see a future with, I felt setting it in both cities was more than fitting.

You mentioned that you’re originally from New York, now based in LA. What’s the difference between the two music scenes, and how have they affected your growth as an artist?

Generally speaking, I feel New York and LA are polar opposites. There is a darkness, an edge, and an energy specific to New York that I'll never find anywhere else, and unless you've lived there, it's hard to know exactly what it feels like. Comparing the music scenes, I feel like New York has a much smaller community and isn't necessarily as concentrated on pop music anymore. I cut my teeth on NYC's music scene through so many different clubs and venues, and for that, I'm eternally grateful. I like performing for crowds in New York because I think you can gauge people's response to the music much more clearly, and they are very open and passionate about their opinions on it- for better or worse. In LA, the scene is enormous, and networking is vastly easier and more common here. I find that I have met significantly more creatives here in the industry on an almost daily basis as compared to in New York. That was a big part of my decision to relocate here ultimately.

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t listened to it before?

My art combines anthemic pop melodies and production with high-fashion visuals and a striking, expressive vocal style running through it all. I tend to lean toward provocateurs, and I have always been obsessed with emulating artists that have pushed the boundaries of what pop music can do on a sonic and visual level.

What’s next? Can we expect to hear more new music soon, and is there anything you want to share with your fans?

I have several unreleased tracks that I am currently planning single releases for throughout at least the remainder of this year. I am thrilled to share this new era with my fans and listeners. I want to thank my fans for their patience since this is my first release since my album Scorpio Season in November 2021. Thank you for sticking by me while I evolved creatively into this next phase of my career and life. Hopefully, it was worth the wait.
