Hello there Petite Celine! Welcome to BuzzMusic! We enjoyed the fusion of various music styles that you incorporated into “Reason & Rhyme.” Can you explain to your fans more about the message you were trying to express?
The message of the song is about the power love has to persevere and believe that with enough courage, work, and faith, true love will prevail, and we can "reign again." I believe a good relationship is one where a torch of strength and support can be passed back and forth between partners in moments of weakness until the relationship can be nursed back to full health and abundance. It may not be passionate all the time, but it's about teamwork, patience, and belief in each other. The song says "could you ever give up on someone you love? So what if we are the weak." The only thing the I leave ambiguous enough is if the relationship will return to health or if it has reached a point of inevitable detriment and has become an unsalvageable burden. I leave that up to you to determine and interpret.
You told us that you fell in love with the fact that your music brings people together. Can you elaborate on how you create your music in order to achieve this goal?
Yes, I love that music has the power to bring people together. It is a universal language after all. I do this with my music by incorporating sounds and languages from around the world. "Reason & Rhyme" is sung only in English but uses Phrygian scales, and musical accents from Sitar (Indian instrument) and Hne (Burmese Instrument).
Can you explain how growing up between two different cultures has influenced the artist you have become today?
Growing up between two countries, a very petite me noticed some pretty big differences in what got airplay in different parts of the world. France, my fatherland, aired a more diverse selection of music, often ranging in different languages and styles, which excited a multi-linguist such as myself, where as the US, my motherland, cemented my love for American Pop. I was also greatly influenced by my time growing up at an international school in NYC where I attended class with students from around the world. My favorite day of the year was always UN day because at my school we would take a break from the curriculum and all the kids would come in dressed in the garb of their native cultures and we'd share foods, art, and toys from our home countries. I always thought that was so cool and it quickly became my favorite day of the year. Needless to say, it marked my music and my affinity for fusion.
You are known to dress your stages with LED art creations and youthful face paint. Can you elaborate on how these visual aesthetics complement your style as an artist?
Great question. Because my music is so colorful, I wanted to bring some color to the stage visually to match. Plus, not only is it a symbol of art and culture, but painting my face before a show allots me a moment of play and is a reminder to just have fun up there.
