Southern California post-hardcore/rock outfit In Transmission has released their new EP Betterment today (August 15) across all major streaming platforms, with a limited-edition vinyl pressing available via Bandcamp.
Produced by Beau Burchell (Saosin, Chevelle, Senses Fail, ERRA), the collection marks a bold shift in the band’s decade-long journey, embracing a more vocal-forward, alternative-driven sound while retaining their sweeping, cinematic roots. The six-track release builds on the band’s evolution from expansive instrumental work to a dynamic fusion of post-rock, indie, and heavier alt-rock textures—anchored by Martin Diaz’s layered, immersive vocals.
Formed in 2011 by Diaz (formerly of hardcore act Mikoto) alongside Garrett Carroll (drums, A Music Box Serenade), Daniel Cardoza (guitar, A Fall Farewell), Darrell Schwaigger (bass), and Jerome De Leon (guitar), In Transmission channels the atmospheric scope of Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai, and Sigur Rós while pushing into emotionally charged territory. Lead single “Catching Up” sets the tone, weaving ambient layers and raw vulnerability into a rallying cry for personal and societal growth. Recorded between the San Gabriel Mountains’ Pale Moon Ranch and Burchell’s private Temecula studio, and mastered by Alan Douches (West West Side Music), Betterment reflects on healing, change, and the quiet moments that spark transformation—delivered with the band’s signature balance of intensity and beauty.
