Welcome to BuzzMusic Samar! Tell us more about your background and upbringing. How was it growing up?

I am an independent rap artist from Minneapolis, Mn. By way of Syracuse, NY. I grew up in a single-parent household along with 3 older siblings, I saw a lot growing up at an early age and always had a dream of one day being able to use my talents to some how to be able to change not just my family's condition but also my communities. Before I was rapping I was a B-boy I was the kid in the neighborhood always break dancing and doing back on old matresses outside lol. Hip hop is in me I been involved with it for as long as I can remember.

What inspired you to write “Stop Killing Us”? The message behind this song seems to be powerful!

I was inspired to write "Stop Killing Us" because I'm tired of seeing my people getting killed by police officers or by our own kind. One of my childhood friends was shot and killed by the Minneapolis police in 1991. His name was Tycel Nelson, every time that I hear about a black person being killed by a cop I automatically think about him. I think that it's time for people to come together and be better examples for the next generation.

What was the most challenging aspect of creating “Stop Killing Us” for you and why?

I really didn't have any challenges writing "Stop Killing Us", because all I had to do was tell the truth about what's going on in the world that we live in. I didn't have to make anything up.

How would you describe the creative process behind “Stop Killing Us”?

A lot of times when I find a beat that I really like the words and concepts just come to me naturally, it's as if the beat tells me what to say. This is my version of Marvin Gaye's song "what's going on" but it's just put together in the form of rap music.

What’s next for you Samar?

What's next for me is to continue to push my creativity the best way I know how to. I

also have a website called skywaytrends.com where I am designing and selling merch online. My first designs are my stop killing our shirts, hoodies, hats, and stickers. But more designs will be coming soon.
