Don Ivy, all the way from the UK released a groundbreaking single titled “Orion’s Belt."

There are so many different components to this song that really stood out to us and we’re going to highlight each one for you! Starting off with the instrumentation. "Orion’s Belt," had a riveting acoustic melody that helped create the tone of the song. The guitar wasn’t too chaotic or extra. Instead, it was simple and canorous. The chords strummed by the guitar helped serve as the foundation for most of what you will hear in the song. Next, let’s talk about Don Ivy's amazing vocal tone.

The quality in her voice was soft with a light rich in texture. Don Ivy's voice moves into two different registers that really helped the song pop. It effortlessly moved through her chest and falsetto range, arranged at the perfect transition for the song.

Don Ivy's voice is as tropical as her name. It’s fruitful, stylistic, intricate, yet mellifluous, and melodic. The melody of the song created this dream-like atmosphere. We can also give credit to the super-cool production of the song that felt as if she was singing into an airy microphone on top of the beautiful acoustic guitar, completely elevating you into this unique dimension of music.

The lyrics vividly painted a picture and created a setting for you to enjoy the song more in-depth. She poetically played with imagery through her fine lyricism, a skill not many artists can do. “Orion’s Belt” was a well-crafted art piece delivered through sound and we are immensely attracted to the style of Don Ivy!

Welcome to BuzzMusic Don Ivy. To start this interview off, what initially inspired you to pursue music and why?

I think I pretty much came out of the womb singing! I was really convinced that I was going to be a singer when I was older, but for various reasons, I kinda lost my way and I figured that my best option was to go down the conventional route. It didn't make me happy, however. After spending most of my 20s feeling quite sad and unfulfilled, I went on a spiritual journey to Peru in 2018 and after spending a week in the Amazon jungle working with shamans and healers, something seemed to click for me, and ever since then, I have been on a journey of returning home to myself. The music just seems to be pouring out ever since then.

Your single “Orion’s Belt” resonated very well with us here at BuzzMusic, What was the vision you had for this record?

I wanted this song to feel as lovely and comforting as the people it is dedicated to. As a point of reference, I asked my producer to give the song an ethereal quality and to imagine it visually as perhaps being underneath a sky full of stars, deep in nature somewhere... perhaps dancing around a fire, surrounded by good people and a having a strong feeling of universal love and connection.

We noticed a unique production with the vocals & instrumentation in “Orion’s Belt”. How would you describe your arrangements in this single?

I wanted the song to sound as dreamy as possible. Actually, not long after writing this song I found an incredible artist on Spotify called Mree, and I was completely mesmerized by her dreamy folk-sounding songs, and that inspired me with the production of this. Luckily I had a producer who was able to capture this completely. I like for my music to sound as vulnerable and open as possible, and  I guess this reflects in the way I sing it. I really do mean every word.

The lyrics in “Orion’s Belt” were able to paint images for us! What inspired your lyricism to this song? Any personal experiences you want to share?

I was facing some pretty difficult challenges this summer and I remember just picking up my guitar and finding these particular chords and instantly feeling the need to write a song about the people in my life who support me through the bad times. I really wouldn't get through life without my friends (and my mother) and my vision was to create something that felt as lovely and comforting as they are. It was important for me to be able to use the cosmos as a point of metaphorical reference I am completely fascinated by the universe and consciousness and my spiritual experience in the Amazon jungle was also a huge influence on this record. I believe we are all linked and connected, and I think it's amazing that science has proven we have stardust in our bodies! Also in this particular era of feminism and ending the shame surrounding mental health, it just feels like a kind of tribute to that!

Thank you for sharing with us Tropico Don! What’s next for you in the upcoming decade? Anything exciting you’re looking forward to?

I find thinking too far into the future kind of terrifying, it is difficult for me to say what sort of future I plan on having as I still feel I am discovering who I am. The only two things I am absolutely sure of are that I always want to travel and music to be huge part of my life.
