Thanks so much for having me, "SAVE ME" was based on some not so good moments in my life where I felt disconnected spiritually and emotionally from God which led me to an emotional state of discomfort with the world. What was your creative process like when formulating the overall sound of "SAVE ME"? What vibe or feeling did you want the song to have? The creative process was very simple especially because I had a motive to write this track so it turned out to be very easy. When I sat down with my producer and friend Ben Pelchat to discuss the song, he knew right away where I was coming from, there was an instant connection! The lyrics in "SAVE ME" are deeply personal yet highly relatable. Was it easy to be so vulnerable during your songwriting process? What was that experience like? They’re very personal, that’s correct! It wasn’t easy to bring back all these feelings again. Especially because they didn’t come from a great place, but at the same time there was a relief for me to put everything into this song and share my feelings with the world, knowing that so many people go through the same situation. And working with Ben makes things way easier. How does "SAVE ME" prepare listeners for your upcoming debut album? Will this song be featured on the project, or will you take the album in a different direction? "SAVE ME" is a single, which most likely will be the introduction for an upcoming album. New songs are being written as we speak and if there’s an album on the horizon it would be a follow up to this song, just like I did on the first album with the song Give Me Life. And yes this song would be featured on the album. What do you hope listeners experience when hearing "SAVE ME?" What impact do you hope the song has on them? The idea is for fans and new listeners around the world to see themselves on this track, especially because it’s a song of hope and connection. Welcome to Buzz, Estephanie! We're so impressed with the depth and emotion in your new EP, For Reasons I Can't Explain. What inspired you to create this personal and relatable project? Thank you for the love Buzz. I wrote this project back in maybe 2022. At that time, I was at a pretty low point mentally and felt lost in who I was and where I was going. This project is a reflection and projection of all of those feelings. It’s raw; it’s weird; it’s whimsical; it's light and dark; it exposes sides of me that I often never show. I find it funny that I wrote the first and last tracks and then filled in between. It follows how I processed my emotions at the time, too. The track “No New Pills” from the EP is particularly raw and honest. Can you share more about what this song means to you? “No New Pills” was one of the first tracks I’d ever written about the desperation one can feel when wanting to be successful. I’ve felt it before, I know others have too. Being in my 20 somethings, I find it hard to feel like I have a grip on my path. All I know is that I want to make art. This is probably one of the most vulnerable songs in the project, the most personal to me. I talk about how badly I want to succeed for my family. I talk about addiction and going down the wrong path. I talk about feeling like I’m never as present as I should be when it comes to my success, being so focused on a goal that I forget to take it slow and congratulate myself. I talk about expectations of others and experiences I’ve had (and I’m sure others have had) where I’ve been promised everything on a silver platter, just to end up lost and abandoned. All of these things fill up my brain and ultimately can cloud my judgment when making decisions if I let them. What was your goal regarding sound and style for the EP, For Reasons I Can't Explain? Did any genres or artists mainly influence this project? Regarding having a goal for the sound, hmm, it’s hard to say. When I wrote these songs back in 2020, I produced the demos for them simultaneously, which is often how my writing process goes. I wasn’t thinking of anything other than what I was feeling at the moment. I now see and hear influences in punk, theatre, dance, alternative, pop, and RnB. It makes sense cause I did visualize the project as theatrical and very visual. Also, thinking back on the process, I remember that “Mindful” was written from a demo instrumental that was initially called “Frank Ocean Inspo” cause I tried to make a Frank Ocean beat at the time lmao. A friend told me the project reminded her of Billie Eilish and Willow, which I’m honored cause I love them both, haha. And I love Solange; I think you can hear her influence in “Just Say That You Don’t Wanna Be” and other songs I’ve written since then. “Mindful (A Note to Self)” serves as the EP's powerful and personal outro track. What message did you want to leave listeners with? “Mindful (A Note To Self)” went through 4 to 5 versions before it was finished. The original version was much sadder, much darker. It was originally a song that spoke about feeling unwanted as I am. And as real of a feeling as that was; I had a conversation with a friend that completely changed the directory of that track. I had him listen to it and another version I had at the time, asking for guidance because I wasn’t sure what version I wanted to end this project with. He told me to ask myself that very thing: “What feeling do you want the audience to leave with?” The rest just flowed after that. The first post-prod. session I had with the co-producer of this project, WhyKaiser, we decided to start with Mindful. Our friend Alex was there at the time and played this beautiful arpeggio. When I left that session, there was a whole new version. I went home and re-recorded all of the vocals, changing and cutting down many of the lyrics. This new version was now lighter, encompassing the feelings of being lost but trusting the process. And that is what I want people to leave with after listening to this EP. It’s okay to feel lost…trust the process. How does For Reasons I Can't Explain reflect where you're currently, as an artist and in life? What does it say about you? I didn’t expect to relate to this project anymore, but I do. It says a lot about me that (like the title implies) I often find hard to explain. It reflects the limbo that I’m in right now, 2 years later, traveling through the unknown. Except before, I’d say I was tiptoeing. I think rn I’m at a good walking/jogging pace, excited to sprint. It also shows how much I love to experiment and explore. It is a great introduction and teaser to my music on the way. Instagram

I wrote it after we had been on tour in Europe for a bit, we had returned home for a bit and I had to head down to KY for a day to take care of some taxes, see some old friends and places that took me back to my youth. Coming Home is about the feeling that arrives when you return back to your roots. How would you say your Kentucky roots shape your sound; especially on this new single? Probably more than anything it helped shaped the story telling aspect of my writing, and to the keep the language in the blue collar realm so we all know what I’m getting at. I love language and the flowery notes that speaking southern can raise, but at the end of the day you have to connect to the listener. Blending traditional blues with a modern rock edge, how do you balance staying true to your roots while evolving your sound? I just try to be myself, and make sure I’m speaking in an honest voice of my background and experiences. Not a huge fan of modern rock, but rock and blues both are extremely important to who I am.  Your lyrics often delve into themes of resilience and redemption. How do these themes reflect your own personal journeys, both as musicians and individuals? Well, I don’t think you can write about troubles without over coming some. We’ve had our share, and I’m sure it helps to connect with others who’ve dealt with the same. We’ve not all found the love of our lives, but we’ve all lost someone we loved. Sometimes sharing mutual sorrow is easier than joy. What can fans expect from your upcoming album "The Southern," and how does "Coming Home" set the tone for what’s to come? D: Thank you for having us A: Yes, thank you for having us. D: The original track was inspired by my brother and songwriter buddy Brandon Lewis. I was at a party, and I got into an argument ... and he was like, Bro, no, let's go in and put these emotions in a song. A: Derrick Invited me to do a verse on the song, but by then, we had become friends after meeting at an event at Spotify LA headquarters a year prior. So, I was familiar with his energy and vibe. What do you like most about the Good Trouble Jersey Club remix of "Big Bank"? What's your take on it? A: Personally, I love the song's ability to bend genres, and this just proves that. Good trouble came hard on her remix, and it was very exciting to see the song transform the way it did. I watched her stream while she made it, and it was wild. D: That part! I wanted to do a dance record, and I thought "Good Trouble" was perfect. Her real name is Cristina Melendez, and she is like family to me. Seeing her emerge as a DJ and an Artist has been exciting. A: Thank you; I really appreciate that. Honestly, I didn’t go into it with a message in mind. Most of my music is heavy with messages, and this song, I just wanted to come hard and have fun. Derrick and I always vibe together, and I just wanted to match his energy. Derrick, what was your songwriting process for "Big Bank?" What sort of images or scenes did you want to paint for listeners? D: My songwriting process for this song is simple. I got in the studio to vent (and I was venting, lol) for a while, and the idea came. Then, my team and I started to produce, write, and develop the record to ensure we captured the feelings in real time. So it started as a real feeling, and then I sat and made sure I told the whole story. What do you hope listeners feel when hearing "Big Bank [Good Trouble Jersey Club Remix]? Honestly, I was at a crossroads with the path I was walking. While I was visiting Elixir, I tried this strain called White Lightning because I saw on the strain card it said it helped with depression and that I was suffering from PTSD and depression. I just wanted to try it out and see if it worked; well, it's safe to say it did. It helped me relax to a state where I could focus on my issues and also find the positives in all of it. Then after that I just started receiving a wave of great news like a literal flood of blessings and things that just elevated my spirits to a extremely high level and just inspired me to write a song about everything i had been accomplishing to remind myself how far I’ve come. That strain has inspired so many great songs and ideas while helping my mental health and even with pain, as I learned in the future. I wanted the world to know how great this strain was and the positive effects it has on people as a medicine for those suffering from depression and anxiety, and if Kahmencents uses it and you see how happy he is, maybe it could help you too. What was the experience like filming the "White Lightning" music video at Elixir Dispensary? Any behind-the-scenes moments to share? Honestly, I just wanted to do a good job and show how much I believed in every word I was saying. It was definitely a fun experience. I pretty much float over myself a lot when I do performances and videos, and this one just felt really good. I felt like this was the start of something huge that I was apart of, just full of good vibes and positivity with love as the foundation and the great white cloud of smoke from the Rambo smoke gun. We love to see you shed some light on Oklahoma's medical cannabis space in "White Lightning." Was that part of the goal in creating and releasing the song and music video? Oklahoma has been referred to as the Wild West of cannabis for whatever reason. Still, I believe it’s because we have a lot of people here who are very driven to provide proper education on cannabis to the public and counter the negative energy surrounding a plant that provides healing. I consider myself the John Wayne of the cannabis community because, through true grit, I will spread the educational and beneficial aspects of cannabis to the world using positivity and love as my weapons. White Lighting proves that we use this plant to heal physical and mental health and that some of us express ourselves through art. We can also spread good vibes and love through our art, which is also ironically helped by cannabis. How does "White Lightning" stand out from your previous releases? Would you say it's different in terms of sound and style? In its style, White  L ightning  is a song that all smokers can play this song anywhere and everywhere and not have to hear any negativity about it because the vibe is so positive. I also made it more for festival group settings and just overall uplifting. It’s pretty much a church song for weed, and I say that in the sense of how someone will sing Never Would Have Made It to help get them through a wrong time; singing White Lightning brings you to a place in your mind where the good vibes reside it’s pretty much ear weed lol. "White Lightning" has such a feel-good vibe. What do you want listeners to feel and take away from this song? I want listeners to tap into good memories, the ones that last a lifetime. I want them to smile, dance, sing out loud, or do whatever they have to do so they can attract good vibes and blessings like I do. Did you face any challenges exploring this new sound? Creating "Even" was an exhilarating journey! The process flowed smoothly, thanks in large part to the incredible talent of Hugo Germain, an outstanding sound engineer at Studio Piccolo. Hugo and I have collaborated on my previous singles, and he always has this magical ability to take my ideas and elevate them to new heights. Recording the track was an epic experience—we laid it down in just three hours! The whole session was electric, with creativity buzzing in the air. One of the challenges I faced was cutting down the lyrics. As a songwriter, I often find myself pouring out a sea of words, but I've learned that in EDM, less is often more. It’s all about capturing the essence of the emotion in the most impactful way. Hugo was instrumental in fine-tuning those details, helping to sculpt the song into its final form. I couldn't be more proud of "Even." It's a testament to our collaborative spirit and relentless pursuit of sonic excellence. The videographer who collaborated with me on the music video is Zac Courchesne, an exceptional producer and artist currently based in Montreal, Canada. I hope listeners feel the same rush of energy and emotion that we experienced while creating it! Did you work alongside any producers or musicians to create "Even?" Who helped or even inspired you to bring this track to life? Creating "Even" was such a thrilling experience, and it wouldn't have been possible without some amazing collaborators. The incredibly talented Slowchestra crafted the initial beat for the track. His artistry is something else, and it laid the perfect foundation for the song. My go-to sound engineer, Hugo Germain, was also instrumental in bringing "Even" to life. Hugo and I have been working together for a while now, and his ability to fine-tune and elevate my ideas is phenomenal. For all of us who tend to forget who we are behind the man, we’re in a relationship with. Sometimes, for the sake of love, we tend to allow things we don’t deserve. So I really just wanted this to be an ode to the women who stand up for themselves and take no BS when it comes to matters of the heart.  The music video for “Session 148” feels so personal, like you're talking right at the viewer. What was your vision for it, and how did you and Dulanci Vallie bring that to life? I really wanted to make it feel like a visual diary entry. I wanted the pieces of me to connect to the elevation of the song. It starts off soft and then progresses into this kind of sassy banter of “letting this little bird fly,” just taking back your power. I wanted to show the elements to me: Feminine/Sassy/Swaggy. How does “Session 148” tie into the overall theme and concept of your EP  From Dash with Love ? From Dash with Love is really a journal entry expressed in song. Each of these records was a moment in time in my life or something created from my heart. Session 148 really balances out the project as it has a softer, more submissive feminine energy and gradually transforms into this Divine Feminine energy, and I just love how it tells a story. Can you share more about the songwriting process for “Session 148”? Was it cathartic to translate your emotions into a cohesive song? The song really came about during a time when I was purging toxic love. I had made a decision and promised myself that I wouldn’t settle for less or ever accept the bare minimum again, and I just wanted to convey a message to all the women out there who fully comprehend what I’m writing about. Sometimes, you just need to confirm what you know and close a chapter. It’s like, “Hey, hello. I have some things I want to say, and you’re going to listen.” .. Session 148 is just that, commanding and demanding respect and being the one to close the door on something negative. What do you hope listeners, particularly women, take away from “Session 148”? What was your goal in that respect? To be completely honest, what I want women to take away from “Session 148” is their Power back. I want them to know it’s okay to slip but never fall! I love that this song can come across as the emotions of a new love when, in truth, it's about a long-term love that has changed my life. In fact, the song was released on both my nine-year anniversary and the day I got married! But even with that time, I feel the song captures the excitement of being alive and thriving with someone who has inspired me to be a better person and a better artist and has made my life better than I could have ever known. While not a new feeling by any means, I love that I finally found the words and music to help share that excitement and inspiration, and I’m so happy that I get to share it. Would you say your sound has evolved since your debut album? How does "All Along" reflect where your band is currently at? Our debut album, Departures, is a special project for us, but it was a DIY project that we had to do in isolation from each other during the pandemic. We’re very proud of that album, but we’re so glad to be writing more music together and working together closely, and I think that shows in the new music we’re making. We also found our fourth member, Drew Stutz, since Departures and we honestly struggle to remember a time without him. He brings such great energy, creativity, and skill to the group that makes us feel complete in a way we couldn't have imagined. In fact, one of our recent singles was a song written by Drew, and we couldn't be happier to have our sound evolve with new perspectives and writing styles. Between all the band members, we're writing songs that are reflective of our experience and will evolve with us, and we're excited to see what kind of music we'll make together next.   Another way that I'd say our sound has evolved is that for our newer music, we’ve also had the wonderful opportunity to record and work together in the studio. We've had amazing experience working with engineers, including Bobby Danzi of Deer Pilot and Vudajé, whose expertise has really helped us level up our production and capture the vision of our work. Can you tell us more about the songwriting process and what message you wanted to convey in "All Along"? It all started when I woke up one morning with an idea that I knew was special. I hurried to my guitar to capture it as quickly as I could (good ideas can disappear fast), and that idea turned into the main riff of the song! Soon after, some chords and structure started forming, and the first melody that came to mind was the line "You lit a fire in me," which became the direction of the song. From there, the rest of the song fell into place in a matter of two days; the words and emotions just poured out, and all I had to do was write it down. It was truly a moment of love, inspiration, and excitement that I hope that people feel while listening to it. What was your favorite part of the process for "All Along"? What moments or experiences did you enjoy most? After the song was initially written, I had the idea that I wanted to release it on my upcoming wedding day, but there wasn’t a lot of time. I took it to the band, and they absolutely could not have been more supportive. So we started figuring out a schedule to write the rest of the parts, which we could work with to produce and engineer the song and ultimately schedule the recording days themselves. The band was even willing to take some days off of work to help get it done in time. We were motivated! We worked with the artist Vudajé for our engineering, producing, and mixing and could not recommend his work highly enough! We are a band that knows how to get stuff done but also to enjoy ourselves and that’s exactly what we did. We had such a blast making it, playing with some ideas and improving on them, and even coordinating our first recorded four-part vocal harmony. We’re so proud of it, and I’m so happy with how we all rallied to make the timing work. What's the one thing you hope listeners feel when hearing "All Along"? How do you want this song to impact them? This song is about the feeling of love and inspiration and, when it hits and you can't help but to express the excitement and passion you're feeling, to tell them what they mean to you! We loved “So Just.” Man, we couldn’t get enough of that classic hip-hop feel! As soon as we heard it, we knew we had to ask: What was the inspiration behind this song? Were you drawing from personal experience? Thank you! I drew inspiration for “So Just” from events in my life. Last summer, I was dating a girl, and in doing so, I felt like I was beginning to lose my sense of morality as a man. At times, I realized I was disrespecting my acquired emotional maturity. That's why that line, “You wanna give it up for some fling back in August”? I was contemplating my happiness for comfort. Other aspects of the song come from my experience working in the Houston heat. I was employed with a company at Bush Intercontinental last summer. This involved physically walking and running on the asphalt on the ground while servicing people, along with an inconsistent schedule and having a college degree. It was mentally challenging, so writing music, as always, was my solace through that endeavor. What was your favorite part of the creative process for making this release, and what’s your favorite part of the creative process usually? My favorite part of songwriting is translating my life experiences into music, infusing them with my unique sense of humor. Throughout my career, I've always treated my "rhyme book" as a journal—a safe space to express my thoughts and experiences honestly without fear of judgment. My upcoming album is based on this idea, with each song reflecting a range of observations from my daily life, including working in the sun and interacting with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds. You’re putting the finishing touches on your upcoming album “You’re Happy, Right? Right? What’s the creative process like for that, and is there any release on the project you’re incredibly excited to share with your fans? I began working on the album in May 2023. My cat Madi passed away in February 2023, which emotionally reinvigorated my need to make music. However, I realized that relying solely on emotion as inspiration was taxing. After taking a break, I returned to the project in September 2023, when life felt more normal. Since then, I have been recording continuously. The album is scheduled to be released on December 6th, 2024, and I plan to have all the material recorded, mixed, and mastered by the end of October. The first single, "So, Just, " currently has a video. The next single, "I Got," is now available on streaming platforms, and a music video for that will be released in the coming month. What would you want it to be if your fans could take one thing away from your music? The effort and intent I put into the music come from a deep sense of need whenever that need arises. I create music for myself that I genuinely want to share with my fans. My approach is not superficial; it's driven by genuine earnestness, honesty, appreciation for the art, and an understanding of the years of practice that have been applied. What’s next for Matthew Reid, and is there anything you’d like to say to your fans? I want to express my gratitude. I recently had a show in Houston, but due to technical difficulties, we couldn't proceed with the show. Despite that, over 30 people showed up, and that touched me. Thirty people took their hard-earned money and paid $15 per person to see me. I took it to heart more than anything else, and I was bothered by my disappointment for not being able to do a good job.
