Jayson De Buyl reveals the creative process, revealing that the goal was to encapsulate the essence of that fresh, invigorating love. The chorus serves as an instant gateway to those initial moments of connection, making it clear from the get-go that this is what it feels like to find that special someone. From the moment the first notes hit, you're enveloped in a melodic embrace that feels like a sun-soaked day with a gentle breeze. The instrumentation is a delightful fusion of soulful R&B with a sprinkle of contemporary flair. The groove is infectious, anchored by a smooth, rhythmic bassline that propels the song forward effortlessly. Jayson De Buyl's vocals, rich with emotion and nuance, effortlessly dance alongside Jon Glenn's, creating a harmonious blend that echoes their chemistry in their real-life collaboration. As the duo croons about their dream girl and the intoxicating feeling of new love, the listener is transported into the very heart of that emotion. Jon Glenn shares insights into their creative journey, emphasizing the seamless process of crafting their first song. What started as a casual session turned into a whirlwind of creativity, resulting in three or four strong tunes that demanded to be shared with the world. "Something Different" by Velvet Rays is a sonic escapade that transcends the boundaries of traditional R&B and soul, creating a distinctive sound that's as refreshing as the lyrics themselves. This sonic journey transports you to the exhilarating realm of newfound love. So, turn up the volume, let the rhythm take over, and get ready to experience something different with Velvet Rays. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Velvet Rays! We're thrilled to chat with you about your latest release! Can you please share more about Velvet Rays's genesis and how your experiences shaped your sound's evolution in "Something Different?" We can both agree that the fruition of Velvet Rays was thought of not too long into the creation of Something Different. We crossed paths through a mutual friend and kicked it off from there. We spoke about our shared love for music and later solidified our bond over similar sounds we were heading towards individually as artists. That’s when the concept of an R&B/Soul duo came to mind, and we decided to commit to a collaborative project with a coherent sound that complements both our styles. This track is a testament to the synergy between you two. How did your collaborative process unfold, and what unique elements did each of you bring to the table during the creation of this single? The unique elements we each brought took us further creatively; for me, it was melody and vocal arrangement ideas; for Jayson, it was vocal and music engineering. Our collaborative process unfolded with our mutual respect and admiration for each other as solo artists. With such vivid and emotionally charged lyrics, please highlight the inspiration behind the narrative of finding an ideal woman and the decision to channel those emotions into the songwriting. The song's concept stemmed from one of our conversations around when we first met. Once we became acquainted and we had heard each other sing, we went in-depth on topics about situations from our past to stimulate an idea for a record, and we landed on the “Dream Girl” concept. Before moving forward, we discussed how we wanted to go about it. We didn’t want just to tell another story people could relate to but bring an atmosphere people could feel and resonate with. The goal was to breathe that “new-love” feeling to life every time you hear our record. If we could use three words to express the emotions channeled during the production of “Something Different”, we’d say; “fun, exciting and honest.” "Something Different" was recorded and pre-mixed at Jayson's home studio. How did this intimate setting contribute to the creative process, and what challenges or advantages did you encounter working in that environment? Recording the single at Jayson’s home studio made the creative process very easy and laid back; we weren’t limited by anything and had free, full creative control. We didn’t have to worry about time or money, if anything, recording at the home-studio gave us clarity on who our target audience is. The advantage was that two minds were greater than one, so we could piggyback off each other's ideas, making creating this record fun. Once we laid down the chorus, that was our guide to writing the rest of the record. The final mix, handled by Danny Jones and Daniel Fernando Gutierrez, adds a layer of finesse to the overall sound. How did you navigate the production process, and what was the significance of their contributions to the final product? When we started working on Something Different, we didn't have an engineer. It wasn’t something either of us was worried about, but we knew we’d have to find someone sooner or later. That’s when we discovered Daniel, a recording engineer/stereo mixing engineer for Lucky Run Studios. Jayson says, “I had been working with Daniel for years before meeting Jon. Most of my songs were collaborated with Daniel. So when discussing the mix, we knew he was the perfect fit.” We wanted to create an atmosphere with depth while staying true to our intentions for the song; it’s supposed to be fun! In November 2023, we came across ‘Across The Road Studio,’ run by Dave Ehninger and Danny Jones, an Immersive Mixing Engineer at ATR Studio. As for the mastering, both Danny and Dave recommended Immersive Mastering Engineer Michael Romanowski from Coast Mastering. We never met in person, but we are beyond grateful for him. Having a Grammy award-winning engineer contribute their talent and time to your record isn’t something that just happens. Our trajectory reassured us that everything else would fall into place.

How much did you draw from personal experience and your own life on this release, and how much do you try to integrate those experiences into your music? This was my first time back in the studio after going through open heart surgery eight months ago. The motivation to get up and get back to what I love inspired this song. You'll witness it for those witnessing a blessing in itself and getting back into bringing the creative sounds to the fans. Most of my music is from some type of personal experience, and this one has been key as it's restarting my career. What inspired you to make the leap to making music seriously, and what inspires you to continue making music now? I was always fascinated by the power of music to evoke emotions and create connections. Leaping to take music seriously was a natural progression of my passion. The inspiration to continue making music comes from the endless possibilities of creativity, the joy of self-expression, and the opportunity to connect with others through shared experiences and emotions. Who were your biggest musical idols growing up, and which artists do you like now? I was always drawn to many different genres of music, from the Isleys, Kenny Loggins, and the Beatles to Jay Z, Kanye West, and Busta Rhymes. So, to answer your next questions, I would say I am still consistently listening to those same artists. What do you want listeners to feel when they hear your music? Do you have any advice for aspiring musicians? I want listeners to feel a range of emotions when they hear my music, whether it's joy, nostalgia, contemplation, or inspiration. My goal is to resonate with people on a personal level. For aspiring musicians, my advice is to stay true to your unique voice and vision. Be open to experimentation, embrace failure as a part of the learning process, and never stop honing your craft. Stay passionate, persistent, and open-minded, and remember that success in music often comes from a combination of talent, hard work, and perseverance. What’s next for Modifyd? Can we expect to hear more new music soon? Is there anything you want to say to your fans? Next is a block of new singles and a few music videos released this year. This will lead to another album release. After that Modifyd is going into the composing world and building the next level of orchestras. Lastly. I want to thank all the fans who have been down since the early 2000s and have stayed in my corner. We have a personal connection and will continue to grow on this journey. Instagram Facebook

  • Lindsay Kaye Gives Us A Look At Behind The Scenes Of Latest Single, “Have Fun In Austin”

Welcome to Buzz, Lindsay! We love your wise and mature approach to your recent single, "Have Fun In Austin." What real-life experiences inspired you to write such a cathartic song? I went through a pretty rough breakup, which was the main inspiration for this song. I co-wrote this with Julie Zorrilla and the process stirred up a mix of emotions but at the same time we had fun telling the story. What was the most challenging part about creating "Have Fun In Austin"? Was it difficult to work through your emotions and create an honest, personal song? The most challenging part was putting together all of the different parts (mostly virtually): guitar, piano, vocals, etc. There were times when it was very emotional for me, and I had to stop recording because I was too upset and couldn’t get through the vocals. Why did you choose to keep the instrumentals so upbeat and bright in "Have Fun In Austin?" Why did you feel this particular sound fit best? I wanted to have a fun, country feel. It wasn’t my intention to make it a sad song, but ultimately, I think the sadness rang stronger than intended. How is "Have Fun In Austin" different from your previous tunes? What makes this song stand out among your discography? This was my first take on a country pop song. This song is different because it tells a true story and is much more personal and literal than the more abstract tracks I’ve written. What do you hope your audience takes away and experiences after hearing "Have Fun In Austin?" What did you want to provide them with? I hope they hear a story that makes them feel something, maybe even something they can relate to. I also hope it empowers them to realize they can move on from past hard breakups. • Johann Explores Post-Breakup Blues In Debut Album, 'Surrendering Sunday'

Now releasing his most earnest and sensitive work yet, singer-songwriter and indie recording artist Johann treats listeners to a unique, personal listening experience with his debut 8-track album, Surrendering Sunday. At first, "Surrending Sunday" was a single in 2022 that Johann fell in love with and decided to build on for his first LP. Having released previous singles like "It Wouldn't Be Sincere", "I Know You (feat. Hanna Mars)", and "Safe And Sacred," Johann is ready to bring listeners even deeper into his personal life with a long-awaited debut album that's already nestling into the alternative music scene quite nicely. Created with the help of his best friend and long-time collaborator Aleks Liskauskas (singer of Guelph band Excuse Me.) as co-writer, producer, and engineer, the album opens with the gentle and personal intro track, "Stomping Grounds." While a warm acoustic guitar strums its way to the soul, Johann makes his tender vocal appearance and discusses the theme of one more shot at a relationship. The beaming alt-rock outro keeps the spirits high and seamlessly leads us to track number two. On "Spoonful (Come Here)," Johann sinks deeper into his emotions alongside warm yet spirited acoustic guitar and 90s alt-rock instrumentals to infuse this song with energy from the get-go. But, while the atmosphere is pristine, Johann expresses a more personal lyrical theme rooted in a desire for someone special. The song's instrumentals are chilling - packed with anticipation and killer transitions that keep our attention locked until the last beat. Reaching the album's third track with "Feels Like (Babe You're All I Know)," Johann expresses a theme many know all too well. While his soothing vocals open the song with lyrics about his delicate post-breakup mind frame, we get hints of punchy Brit-pop and classic 90s alt-rock instrumentals to keep the energy high and mighty. It's a reminder of the time it takes to heal our wounds of past love, and no matter what we do to try and forget them, there's still a glimmer of hope that you might rekindle that flame again. On track number four, "It Wouldn't Be Sincere," we're met with an emotional and alternative-infused electric guitar that gradually leads into a warm alternative breakdown. As Johann enters the scene with his chilling vocal stylings, he touches on more post-breakup thoughts and the lingering loneliness that follows. His vocal harmonies are stunning, elevating the song to another emotional level, leaving us in a trance. It's a profoundly introspective and relatable song that perfectly highlights the reality of facing uncomfortable truths. Reaching the album's second half with track five, "I Know You (feat. Hanna Mars)," this beautiful, previously-released single opens like a daydream, with ethereal organ-like melodies, a downtempo alternative instrumental, and Johann's velvety vocals that highlight reminiscing on what happened, what could have been, and what went wrong. Hanna Mars' stunning and dreamy vocals are the cherry on top, rounding out this song to perfection with a captivating back-and-forth dynamic, making the song's theme even more palpable. Ramping up the alternative vibe is track six, "Safe And Scared," kicking off with a bright electric guitar that leads into a full-throttle instrumental breakdown, radiating energy from every angle. Johann's laid-back vocal appearance, discussing the overwhelming feeling of loneliness and weakened mental health, reminds listeners that it's okay to give ourselves room to breathe. The influential outro, where Johann states that he's been "stuck in struggling," closes the song on a deeply personal yet relatable note. Hitting play on the album's seventh song, "Perth (I Haven't Smile In A While)," we're greeted with a gentle acoustic guitar alongside Johann's breathy vocals expressing how he's 25 but hasn't moved on since 15. This slice into Johann's personal life is a page from his journal - expressing rhetorical questions and romanticizing past relationships. As he reaches the outro, his beautiful harmonies close this reflective song by reciting that he hasn't smiled in a while, but that's not stopping him on his quest for peace. Landing on the album's eighth and title track, "Surrendering Sunday," Johann's soft vocals and warm acoustic guitar kick the song into gear alongside vulnerable, personal lyrics that share Johann's inner perspective. This is the most powerful song on the album. It tracks the post-breakup aftermath, the internal struggles of 'needing' that person, and the final release, the surrender, of accepting that only time will heal this wound. The rich alternative outro brings the album home on a note of hope for the future, where Johann's at peace with himself, and this relationship has been put to rest. Johann's 8-track debut album, Surrendering Sunday, is the most personal, vulnerable, and compelling album we've heard this year. Packed with post-breakup emotions and the turbulent aftermath, this album is a must for anyone searching for a chilling alternative journey through love and loss. Emerging from the beautiful metropolis most known as the city of love, Parisian-based producer Delabeat first burst onto the scene in late 2023 with the arrival of his acclaimed debut “Soudain - Tu Danses.” Although his budding career is still exceedingly fresh, in the short time since he’s been active, he’s shown tantalizing glimpses of potential with each release. Following up “Soudain - Tu Danses” with similarly captivating releases like “Je suis full-time” and “Je suis con - acid jazz version,” if this talented producer can maintain the standard he’s set for himself, the sky will be the limit. Listening to Delabeat’s releases is like letting him cast a spell over you, fusing lofi vibes, urban beats, and tantalizing acid jazz undertones to captivate you. From the hypnotizing depths of lo-fi to the pulsating rhythms of urban and house, Delabeat’s sonic palette and willingness to switch things up have kept his releases as diverse as they are compelling. His debut house anthem, “Aquí amor,” captivated ears and eyes, as his collaborator vj VJAUX's stunning visuals elevated the track to viral stardom in the digital realm. Everything Delabeat touches simply turns to gold. Although you can’t go wrong with Delabeat’s releases, “Je suis full-time” is the perfect introduction to the colorful world the Parisian artist has created. Funky, addictive grooves set a vibrant tone and backdrop for an inspired vocal performance. Jazzy, classy, and upbeat, this release has apparent soul and jazz undertones, but it also feels like it incorporates the lo-fi sound Delabeat is known for and hip-hop. Delabeat has done a masterful job combining so many competing influences, and the cohesive sound of the release is a testament to his significant musical ability. If you’re a fan of lo-fi or find yourself in the mood for a modern release with a jazzy touch, you’ll love this release. Delabeat’s “Je suis full-time” is a beautiful, easy-on-the-ear offering perfect for unwinding after a long day. Whenever you’re ready, tap in and stream the song, which is out now on all Majour streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Delabeat! We loved “Je suis full-time,” so we had to ask: What inspired this release? The song Je suis full time was born with the idea of valuing time and one's own space. We are constantly at the center of other people's lives, but it is also nice to say that being with ourselves makes us breathe. For the video, we chose an urban location and a street dance to fully reflect the song's mood. Sidney was a great performer. What's your favorite part of the creative process for your releases? The start, the idea, the first notes that trigger the creative flow—everything stems from a moment, a situation: Maybe everything happens on a sunny day or a rainy day, but it doesn't matter. Music can intercept every Little variation, transforming the world around us into a delightful sequence of notes. Do you have a favorite music-related memory, and do you have any advice for aspiring artists? I have a memory that starts from Pernety, here in Paris, in the spring. I was 16 years old. A song by Jill Scott was in the air. I felt a punch in my stomach and decided that those sounds would remain in my life. From that moment, I started playing music. I would tell artists to pursue those productions that can cause us a thrill without any fear of being judged. If your audience could take one thing away from your music, what would you want it to be? Not a lesson but rather a feeling. Well-being. Lightness. With a thread of melancholy. Feeling good listening to a track I produced. What’s next for Delabeat? Can we expect to hear more new music soon? Is there anything you want to say to your fans? Sure! Two projects with the artist mokenzun in the coming months, and in April the release of a new single and video. I think music is a blessing. Experiencing it is like thanking every breath we take. • Son Kuma Searches For Something Real On His Heart-Baring New Release “All Night”

Can he find his ride or die tonight? It’s not often you come across people who can genuinely excel in multiple areas. A recently minted Physics grad of Stanford University, singer-songwriter Son Kuma sees the connection of all things differently. Having made his debut with the release of 2017’s warmly received mixtape “Indica,” this talented MC has shunned complacency. Following up “Indica” with hits like 2019’s “Endless Love,” Kuma continues to brightly blaze his trail in an already crowded industry. Drawing influence from the likes of Tyler The Creator, Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean, and Ty Dolla $ign, Kuma has crafted a sound that’s as engaging as it is candid. As he auto-croons about his mental health, drug use, and more, it feels like he’s opened a window into his soul. His transparent lyricism perfectly aligns with his desire to reach listeners with conscious, thought-provoking lyrics. By channeling his authentic story, he’s held audiences spellbound and shown no signs of slowing down soon. As he impassionately raps lines like “Broken records got me feeling hella played out / the way they treat you got you looking for a way out,” he bares his heart to his love interest, hoping for something better even as each party deals with their love scars. Will he succeed? Only time will tell. Son Kuma’s latest release, “All Night,” is a groovy, R&B-tinged musical fusion that’ll have you hitting rewind again and again. Whenever you’re ready, tap in and stream Son Kuma’s latest release, “All Night,” on all majour streaming platforms. Welcome to BUZZ, Son Kuma! We loved “All Night,” we just had to ask! What was the inspiration behind this release, and what was your favorite part of seeing your vision for this release come to life? Thank you BuzzMusic for your continued support. Honestly, "All Night" was strongly influenced by my teen years of rocking to 00s pop punk bands like Blink-182, Man Overboard, and Sum 41. I was also a big fan of Linkin Park, who found ways to combine rock and rap elements into a record creatively. The song shows traces of many other genres, including RnB, Dance, and Pop. Favorite part of making this track was when I initially freestyled the bare bones of what would become the topline for the song. Many sections of the song were fleshed out from the first 1-take freestyle I recorded on the beat. I posted the gibberish snippet on my IG story, and over 50 fans swiped up to let me know I needed to drop it ASAP. That's usually how I confirm when I have something cool on my hands. What is your favorite part of the creative process with your music? I think my last answer can be extended to answer this question. The most fun parts of creation come from the spontaneity and unpredictability of improvising and freestyling. Let the ideas naturally flow and then play them back to perceive them for the first time as a listener. Who would be your dream collaboration and why? My dream collaboration changes significantly based on what I'm vibing with at any particular time. Right now, I am a big fan of what SZA has been doing regarding songwriting and her ear for production. I would love to be in a collaborative session with her. If your audience could take one thing away from your music, what would you want it to be? We all contain the secrets of the universe within us because all of those secrets can be reconstructed using the most fundamental elements that constitute us. Everything is just a reconfiguration of something else, and this can also apply to intangible objects like ideas and beliefs. I indirectly weave this theme throughout the lyrics of my music. What’s next for Son Kuma? Can we expect to hear more new music soon, and is there anything you want to say to your fans? I plan on releasing at least 15 songs this year, which might be my personal record. On average I usually only drop around 7 songs a year, but now that I have graduated college, I have so much more time to dedicate to music so I'm stoked. I have another new song dropping 3/14/24 and a new mixtape dropping in April so stay tuned. Instagram Twitter

  • Strengthened By The Melody: The Honest Poet’s Cathartic Break-Up Anthem ‘Made Me Stronger’

In the realm of heartfelt music that resonates deeply with the soul, South Wales-based The Honest Poet stands out as a beacon of authenticity and raw emotion with his latest release, ‘Made Me Stronger.’ Blending elements of hip-hop, spoken word, R&B, and soul, 'Made Me Stronger' is a soul-stirring breakup anthem exploring lost love's depths. With raw and honest lyrics layered over intricate R&B instrumentation, The Honest Poet lays bare the emotional journey of overcoming heartache and emerging stronger. The distinguishing factor of The Honest Poet's artistry lies in his steadfast dedication to authenticity. Through "Made Me Stronger," he bravely confronts the anguish of heartbreak and ultimately reflects on the resilience gained from such experiences. His willingness to embrace vulnerability adds a compelling depth to his music, captivating listeners with its honesty and emotional resonance. This genuine portrayal of human experience perfectly embodies his moniker, 'The Honest Poet.' Collaborating with fellow Welsh artist and producer MINAS, this soulful R&B ballad has undergone a remarkable transformation from its original acoustic roots, showcasing the evolution of The Honest Poet's sound. Reflecting on the single, The Honest Poet revealed, "Fun fact, 'Made Me Stronger' was originally written a few years ago and just resided as an attempt at writing a pop song that could potentially be on the radio. It started with an acoustic vibe until the idea of the EP came about. Minas did what he does best and unlocked its potential.
