Jordan Mericle Discusses The Intimate Details That Inspired Latest Release, "Call Me By My Name"

We loved "Call Me By My Name". We had to ask! What was the inspiration behind this release? Were you drawing from personal experience?

Thank you so much! I appreciate the listen, and it's so nice to get acquainted with you at BuzzMusic. This single was inspired by personal experience. It comes from being drawn to someone in such an electrifying way that the feelings are there and undeniable on both sides. In the song, I'm asking them not to be afraid of the past (the things they feel may haunt them) and to leap. Fear of failing does not have to be our puppeteer -- call on me and be with me.

What inspired you to start making music, and what inspires you to keep doing it today?

I've loved music for as long as I can remember. It was the very first thing I gravitated towards and was enamored by. My Mom and I loved listening to Celine Dion and Whitney Houston together (my original idols), and my Dad loved classic rock. As a kid, I remember standing before my parents' giant glass cabinet full of CDs and flipping through them all, picking a new one to listen to almost daily. I would hold the paper insert and memorize the lyrics, singing along to everything. Writing and singing music became my number one goal in life because, to me, it was like water and air.

Today, I keep doing it because it has always brought me more joy than anything. I also believe music heals. Ultimately, yes, I want to do what I love in life, but I want to help and inspire people through that art form, as well.

What was your favorite part of the creative process and bringing the vision for "Call Me By My Name" to life?

During the creative process, I love that moment when the melody and the lyrics finally lock-in and click. You know, after hours upon hours of experimenting with what would work and what wouldn't, it was a fantastic feeling when "Call Me By My Name" started to match the power in its instrumentals, tones, and even vowel placement. There is nothing as incredible a feeling as laying down a soaring rock track in a studio, layering everything in, and hearing it come together... studio days are always my favorite part. It's the icing on the cake after so much trial and error. This single brought me immense joy in that creative sense. We wanted it to be powerful, and I think it is.

If your fans could take one thing away from this release, what would you want it to be?

Trust your gut. Feel free to rise to the next big challenge and commit to whatever you do with all you've got. Love deeply and without fear.

What's next for Jordan Mericle? Can we expect to hear more new music soon, and is there anything you want to say to your fans?

More new releases are on the way, for sure! You can catch my band and I touring around the live music scene in NYC. We would love to see you at the next one! To the fans, thank you for your unwavering support. I'd never be able to do this without you, and I appreciate every like/comment/post/face in the audience. They are more significant than gold to me and thank you.
