Lose Yourself In Katie Dauson’s Adventurous Storytelling In New Album, ‘Fool’s Gold’

Hailing from Richmond Hill, Ontario, is singer-songwriter, versatile recording artist, and self-proclaimed 'huge nerd' Katie Dauson with her latest 10-track album, Fool's Gold.

Having graduated with honors from the Creative Advertising program at Seneca College and the Video Game Design and Development program at The Toronto Film School, Katie Dauson is no stranger to creative ventures. But, with music close to her heart, she recently embarked on performing in May 2022. And with a slew of dynamic releases under her belt, including her recent album Fool's Gold, Dauson is settling into Toronto's music scene quite nicely.

In her latest album, Dauson kicks off the experience with the intro track, "Dizzy," a toe-tapping, jazzy groove that introduces listeners to Katie Dauson's playful and animated vocal stylings, relatable lyrics and witty storytelling that keeps our attention locked. Making her way into the country-infused "I Can't Wait To Tell You," she jumps into another fun-loving, go-getting tune that sparks a sense of adventure and excitement to reconnect with someone special at long last.

Slowing things down with "Rodeo Riders," Katie Dauson continues the subtle country twang while embracing the rodeo culture, watching it with loved ones, and the high-energy spirit that keeps her coming back. In track four, "Galactic Buckaroo," Katie Dauson takes us to the outer space rodeo and ramps up the energy with a toe-tapping country groove alongside her storytelling lyrics of a galactic buckaroo traveling the cosmos on new adventures.

Keeping the fun-loving spirit alive is track five, "Blue," with a warm country instrumental and Katie Dauson's carefree vocals expressing the importance of being happy and free and sharing our time on this earth with those who mean most to us. Reaching the album's title track, "Fool's Gold," Katie Dauson does what she does best and tells a playful story of ye' old diggers searching for the jackpot, only to discover that it's just "Fool's Gold," something that might make you 'feel' rich but isn't worth a pretty penny.

Continuing into the second half of the album with track six, "Doris' Drive," Katie Dauson channels her inner storyteller to tell the tale of lonely Doris, who takes the open road to feel alive. In track seven, "Big City Blues," Katie Dauson blesses us with what feels like a 60s surf rock meets modern country sound, leaving us chanting along with her catchy lyrics that honor the roots of small towns and how big cities can leave us feeling exhausted.

In the ninth song, "Midnight Train Ride," it seems as though Katie Dauson has finally cured her big city blues with a train ride out of there. While she describes a midnight ride to the sun, Dauson reminds us of the importance of seeking adventures in life. And reaching the final track of the album, "Lovers In A Dangerous Time," Katie Dauson blesses listeners with one of the most beautiful songs on the album, an ode to love and how it can conquer anything, as it's the most powerful force on the planet.

Katie Dauson touched on a few concepts throughout her album Fool's Gold. Most notably, the thrill of seeking adventures, the dizzying times we live in, and how love can help us conquer the world's sadness.
