  • Music Is “The Cure”: Rose Cora Perry & The Truth Untold’s New Release

Canadian rockers Rose Cora Perry and The Truth Untold have done it again: They released a timely and relevant socially charged rock anthem with a quasi-movie music video to boot. Following the success of their 2022 hit, “Not My Time,” which achieved airplay on 50 stations across North America and over 100,000 views on YouTube – an unheard-of feat for a self-represented band – Perry admits they were intimated about what song to choose as a follow-up. “’ Not My Time’ was extraordinarily successful, and we are truly thankful that it resonated with so many people. I think it’s reaffirming as a songwriter that your music is reaching people on a very emotional and visceral level. We’re hoping our fans feel ‘The Cure’ is a worthy follow-up and that they enjoy part two of my music video character, Kathryn Gunn’s evasion from authorities.” The Truth Untold has gained a reputation for writing hard-hitting rock tunes with catchy melodies and releasing cinematically elaborate music videos with notable plot twists and turns. Perry sees music videos as an extension of her artistic expression, lending insight into the inspiration behind her lyrics and giving listeners a deeper connection to the band’s music: “I enjoy giving our fans an experience both ‘on stage’ and when we release new material. As an avid movie watcher myself, I come up with these ridiculously elaborate plots. I am always amazed that we pull them off with literally one camera guy and a shoestring budget.” The video for the band’s new sure-to-be hit, “The Cure,” carries on Perry’s and Tyler Randall’s (drummer) characters established in the “Not My Time” universe, plus includes cameos by the band’s touring bassist Jessie Taynton and fellow musician Kirk Reed. If there’s one takeaway from the video’s plot, it’s that “appearances can be deceiving.” Be sure to check out the band live as they continue on their US summer tour. Facebook Instagram

  • A New Chapter Begins For Jeffrey Chan In “My Oh My”

From Sydney to Los Angeles, singer-songwriter and talented musician Jeffrey Chan is marking a new chapter in his artistic career with a funky, dance-pop single titled "My Oh My." Combining his classical piano training, deep vocals, and lush and groovy electronic sounds, Jeffrey Chan is undoubtedly carving his own path in the often cookie-cutter music scene. Influenced by new wave and synth-pop, Chan embraces vivid lyrics and catchy melodies to create immersive listening experiences, like his debut album FaultLine and its follow-up FaultLine: AfterShock. Embracing the change that comes with moving across the world is Jeffrey Chan in his latest single, "My Oh My," influenced by the sonic stylings of icons like Daft Punk and Justin Timberlake. As he continues to expand his artistic reach in Australia, the US, and beyond, there's no doubt songs like "My Oh My" will help him do precisely that. Hitting play on "My Oh My," the experience kicks off with smooth electronic keys that lead into a funky, guitar-driven verse alongside slappy drums and Jeffrey Chan's deep, velvety vocals. As he expresses not being used to his surroundings and this new way of life, Chan confesses that these new experiences and relationships are exactly what he needs. The song's hook is infectious, radiating all sorts of synth-pop and new-wave vibes that lead us straight to the dancefloor. While Jeffrey Chan continues serenading listeners with lyrics of control, lust, love, and personal growth, he realizes that big changes, although scary, can lead to amazing things (or people). Give yourself a sonic pick-me-up with Jeffrey Chan's catchy new single, "My Oh My," now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to Buzz, Jeffrey! We love the upbeat and passionate vibes of your recent single, "My Oh My." What experiences inspired you to write a song about embracing a new, refreshing change? 'My Oh My' was really inspired by a lot of different experiences I've had since I moved to Los Angeles. I feel like I've had a lot of positive changes and amazing experiences and been surrounded by amazing music, culture, and people. Would you say that "My Oh My" marks a new musical chapter for you? What do you want this song to establish? I think so! Creatively, this feels like a new direction for me. I've been releasing one-off singles since 2020 with 'Glow,' but since I moved to Los Angeles, my experiences and being in a new city have really allowed me to experiment and embrace a new sound. It's still the catchy, feel-good pop vibe I want to go for, but I wanted it to feel a little more sophisticated and story-driven in this next chapter of my creative work. Did you work alongside any producers or musicians when creating "My Oh My?" What was that creative process like? I worked on this mostly alone, but I did go back to my go-to mastering engineer, who I've worked with since I started releasing music, Julian Lowe, who has worked with an amazing list of people I admire! On the photo front, however, I did have a lot of fun working with a friend of mine, Elisha Knight, on shooting the cover for this one. We got to really experiment and play around with some of the ideas we had - the cover is one of my favorite covers I've ever shot. How does "My Oh My" stand out from your previous singles? What makes it unique to you? With 'My Oh My,' I really wanted to step up the vibes and make it feel a little more elevated and sophisticated. I've been listening to Jessie Ware since 2020, and her albums 'What's Your Pleasure?' and 'That! Feels Good' has influenced me; I saw someone coin the term sophist-pop, and that's the vibe I'm trying to go for with 'My Oh My.' I released this song in the lead-up to Pride Month and my run of Pride gigs, and so I wanted this to feel unapologetically fun, feel good, and gay. It was SO fun playing this one at WeHo Pride this past week! What did you want listeners to feel when hearing "My Oh My"? How did you want this song to impact them? I wanted to capture the feeling of meeting someone new and how electric that feeling is; the moment where you're not sure it's lust or love, but you know it's something special. I want my listeners to ultimately have a good time with this song; there's so much dreary and sad music out there nowadays, so I wanted to put something fun out there where people can blast it while they're driving, hanging out with friends, or getting ready for a fun night out! Check out the video on YouTube and the single on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to Buzz, DJ Amaze! Your new single, "LOCO LIMBO," is an instant summer hit. What inspired you to create this feel-good anthem? I am so excited about this project. This song just hit me like a jolt of inspiration a day before I was to leave for a tour in the Bahamas. I think I wanted to do anything but pack! The music video for "LOCO LIMBO" is set in a stunning tropical location. Why did you choose this setting, and how does it complement the song's vibe? We shot the video at Montague Beach, Nassau, Bahamas. I loved it because it's an organic beach and park that isn't the most popular. Folks went about their day as we shot the video. Some beeped their horns in support as they drove by, watching me jump around. You've been passionate about music since childhood. How have your early experiences influenced your sound and style as an artist, particularly in "LOCO LIMBO?" I would say yes. As a young child, the first place I ever visited internationally was Bahamas with my Grandmom I didn't know at the time but this ignited a love for the Caribean that would only grown inside me. "LOCO LIMBO" has an infectious energy. What's your secret to creating music that makes people want to dance? I wish I knew a formula or process to perfect it! I follow my heart and the feel of the song. I never force anything. Best of all, being a DJ, I get to test it out, tweak it, and make it the best it can be before I release it. I always make sure my tracks have lots of energy, even if it's a slow song. What was your favorite part about creating the song and video "LOCO LIMBO?" Completing a project that is being so well received is huge for me! I want to make people have a good time. I love performing, and I love it when my music brings happiness and dancing. I've found LOCO LIMBO to do that. You don't know how happy it makes me to see people happy! What moments did you appreciate most? I really appreciated the whole process, from producing the music to writing the lyrics, filming the video, and then sitting with Yikes Lee (Director/Editor extraordinaire) to put all the footage together. This project is fun and light, but I took the planning very seriously once I saw the effect it had on crowds when I played it. Instagram Facebook

  • Jumpstart Your Day With Smooth Retsina Glow's New Release, "Against Any Odds"

Coming in hot with another captivating release is the dreamy, funky jazz-rock band Smooth Retsina Glow. With a new single titled "Against any odds," the band empowers listeners far and wide. Now entering its fifth year of releasing music, Smooth Retsina Glow is powered by Colin Wolf's musical stylings and new members Quincy Wellen and Natalia Expraxia. Gaining success with their 2023 album Gemini Reign, among other singles, the new and improved trio is taking their future by the horns with even more crowd-pleasers. Their latest single is no exception. "Against any odds" is a bright and booming rock-jazz song with lyrics that naturally uplift anyone who listens. Only within a couple of months of its release, this track has already gained regional and international success, breeding the momentum for the band's 5th album, Through the Needle's Eye, to follow. Expanding on "Against any odds," the track kicks off with a powerful and attention-commanding jazz-rock instrumental, setting the funky and dreamy tone from the get-go. Effortlessly showing off their musical prowess with smooth transitions from verse to hook, Smooth Retsina Glow showcases their renewed sound and style in the most irresistible way possible. The song's lyrics are another interesting aspect. Colin Wolf perfectly expresses those cut-throat, high-stress moments of watching the odds stacked against you. But, he sings a message that anyone can learn from: We have the power to prevail and defy the odds, no matter how stacked they might seem. It's an empowering, immersive listening experience that anyone can appreciate. Hear the new and improved Smooth Retsina Glow with their latest single, "Against any odds," now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to Buzz, Smooth Retsina Glow! Congratulations on releasing your newest single, "Against Any Odds." What inspired you to create such an empowering song like this? There's a saying that I've heard from a lot of artists/songwriters that you have to write a number of bad songs before you get something good, or before something spontaneous comes out, and I think it was simply a good riff, a good melody, some interesting things from a musical perspective- all condensed in a very radio friendly 3.16 package. And without being rushed- it was pretty easy to write. Thanks for the compliment! How is "Against Any Odds" different from your previous releases? Does this song showcase a new sound or style for your group? Against Every Odds is different from the previous singles you've heard because we now have two new members joining me ( Colin Wolf)- Quincy Wellen on drums and Natalie Efpraxia on vocals, so already there is a drastic change in terms of personal. Stylistically, for the past number of years we've dealt with a number of lineup changes- as well as evolving from more a blues/ folk americana group in our early days. This song is a continuation of our indie/alt sound, but it is more mature and sophisticated. Even though it has a Disco/R and B sort of drum rhythm, it has a shoegaze sort of production value with a type of distortion that doesn't sound too " dated" from the rhythmic aspects, and the distorted sound is ideal for my vocals, considering its not pristine cline, but at the same time, it doesn't get overdone. What was the collaborative process like between the members of Smooth Retsina Glow for "Against any odds?" How did you three bring this song to life? One of the few things that haven't changed is when I write a song, I tend to be something of a completist when I write, in the sense that I write the music, the lyrics, the vocal melody, and when I bring it to the others, I tend to have a pretty sketched out idea of how I want the rhythmic feel, but I also give the others a certain leeway in terms of how the songs are "arranged." For your readers, songwriting and arranging are two different entities, and I think that there is a good interplay between the songs. What did you want listeners to take away from your lyrics in "Against any odds"? How did you want this song to impact them? It is written from the standpoint of the singer (myself) going through various issues and getting through it, but I believe that just about anyone can relate to it; I think just about everybody can face "against any odds" and prevail! What was your favorite part about creating "Against any odds"? What moments or parts of the process did you enjoy most? As a whole, the process of writing, arranging, and recording captures us as being " on all cylinders"—the whole experience because the overall outcome isn't possible without all the elements. Everybody in the group liked it from the preview, it was easy to finalize, and easy to record. You could also say it was a healthy challenge to give it all the elements, especially from a drumming standpoint. And it has become a perennial- from here on forward! Instagram Facebook

  • Journey Into The Retro-Futuristic Soundscape Of Occult Hardware's "Obsolete"

Innovative multimedia duo Occult Hardware defies genre boundaries. Their new single and music video, "Obsolete," takes listeners on a mind-bending odyssey. Fayann Smith and Robert Burnham, the masterminds behind Occult Hardware, have been pushing artistic limits since their inception. Fusing elements of pop culture, contemporary dance, dark electronica, and live ritual, their confrontational projects have garnered global attention from Vogue, BBC Television, and Dazed. "Obsolete" is more than just a song; it's a 14-minute conceptual adventure that serves as the soundtrack to an art film by October! Collective. The track delves into the complex interplay between reality and the extreme restructuring of boundaries due to technological advancements, questioning reality and what's to come with AI. Immersing in "Obsolete" is like stepping into a dystopian dreamscape. The multi-textured soundscape, crafted with a passion for synthesis and sound design, draws inspiration from conceptual rock legends like Pink Floyd and Trent Reznor. Occult Hardware masterfully blends soft synths, robust analog hardware, and nostalgic digital tones to create a retro-futuristic atmosphere that transports the listener into another universe. The accompanying music video is an equally trippy experience, questioning reality at its very seams. Through a captivating performance by movement director Morgan Barbour, the visuals explore the tension between the physical body and the encroaching influence of technology, complementing the song's cautionary tale. It's a needed reminder that we can either do good with this technology or we'll face its wrath. Ready for an immersive experience like nothing else? Dive into Occult Hardware's "Obsolete," now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to Buzz, Occult Hardware! Your new single, "Obsolete," is a mesmerizing journey that blends music, art, and technology. What inspired you to create such a conceptually ambitious piece? We were compelled by the time we existed. As people who are concerned with ethics and immersed in technology, we felt that it would make sense to tackle the issues head-on. Our friendship groups, composed of many artists who are all tackling the same issues regarding creativity and digital tools, have raised many valid concerns, and this was our way of opening a dialogue that felt open and exploratory. Our position is of cautious optimism. We are aware of the dangers of unmediated advanced technology. Still, we also believe that if we allow for meaningful debate, then we can shape the future together, not just be subject to it. As much as there are huge and somewhat greedy corporate interests they can be amenable to people power if it is focused and well organised. They have everything to gain by keeping their customers happy and finding applications for their products. The soundscape of "Obsolete" is incredibly rich and diverse, referencing various genres and influences. How did you approach the composition and production to achieve this unique fusion of sounds? We relied on our own musical knowledge and obsessions to dig deep into a compelling sound. As people who have spent thousands of hours not just making but consuming music of all genres, we felt that the time spent listening to our favorite bands and composers has paid off. We’ve all got all kinds of equipment fetishes, so any new project is an inspiration to try out gear that we’ve not gotten our teeth into. The revolution of digital tools means that certain equipment that would be prohibitively expensive as hardware can now be played with as emulation plugins; this is enticing as we are always trying to find something new. Some bizarre combination of synthesizers, pedals, sequencing hardware, and effects, everybody making electronic music can probably relate to this. As much as we love classic instrumentation, there are limits to how unique you can make something so familiar. Combining this approach with sonic montage via sampling really expands the sonic palette. The themes of "Obsolete" touch on the complex relationship between humans and advancing technology. What message or ideas did you hope to convey through the lyrics and spoken word? We used two techniques: Smith pulled apart a futurist poem she had previously written, While Steinsdotter and Karpowicz combined their ideas utilizing the Cut-Up technique. The Cut-Up technique is a literary and artistic method where selected texts are cut into pieces and rearranged to create a new composition. It disrupts traditional narrative structures and generates new, often unexpected meanings. The technique is most famously associated with the Dadaists of the early 20th century and was later popularised by writer William S. Burroughs and artist Brion Gysin in the 1950s and 1960s. The idea of randomizing the text was a direct way to underpin the notion of AI once more as it essentially collages all human thought into its own composite knowledge, so the form of expression here again relates to the machine processes that it is a commentary on. How was your experience collaborating with October? Collective and movement director Morgan Barbour on the "Obsolete" art film? How do you feel the visuals enhance the impact of the music? Barbour is an athlete in incredible shape. To see somebody in peak fitness like that is an inspiration and affirms human excellence. To keep the human element firmly in the picture, balance the digital narrative. We need to remember what is at stake if we do not honor our bodies and remain steadfast in keeping immersed in human affairs and culture. Her dedication to her craft and capabilities is a testament to her solid commitment to a task and the ability of individuals to transcend their limitations to become almost superhuman. Being superhuman, either through sheer hard labor on your health or body modification, is part of our future whether we like it or not. Through education and experimentation, we ensure that, again, this is a choice, not a compulsion. As multimedia artists, you've worked on confrontational, experimental projects that span music, dance, and visual art. How do you see "Obsolete" fitting into your broader artistic vision and evolution? We’ve been keen to tackle soundtracks for a long time now. Being in bands is fantastic, but with the financial pressure of making it pay, coupled with the time demands related to touring, we felt that the more places we could place our music, the better. The music industry, if it can be called that, is so fragmented, and since the rise of downloads, it isn’t something that’s easy to live on. Additionally, not having worked within a traditional sound format is a lot less limiting. Social media has made music consumption all about instant gratification and short, snappy music that comes and goes very quickly. If you want to break from this restriction, then moving into long-form pieces allows for the more idiosyncratic ideas to flow through and not be thrown aside as they don’t fit in a radio-friendly form. We also enjoy messing with people’s heads, from post-punk to trap, electroclash, and ambient; we go anywhere we want, and that freedom is part of the reason Occult Hardware exists at all. Instagram

  • From Behind The Lens To Center Stage With Eros Thorn

Written by Eros Thorn: Becoming an independent artist has been an extraordinary journey, one marked by unexpected turns and the convergence of various passions. My path in the music industry began not with a microphone in hand but with a camera. As a professional photographer, I was privileged to capture the raw, unfiltered moments of musicians both on and off the stage. This vantage point gave me a unique perspective on the world of music, one that would eventually lead me to discover my own voice. Raised in the serene yet culturally rich Kailua, Hawaii, I grew up as a gay Latino man in an environment where my identity often felt like a challenge. Navigating this complexity in a community that was not always accepting shaped me profoundly. It instilled in me resilience and a deep well of emotions, which I would later channel into my music. Photography was my first love, and through it, I connected deeply with artists, capturing their essence and their stories. It was during these moments behind the lens that I began to feel a pull towards the narratives unfolding before me. I started to write, not just to document but to create. My words found their way into songs, and I began songwriting for other artists. This transition felt natural; my background as a published poet honed my lyricism, allowing me to craft stories that resonated deeply. One of the most pivotal moments in my journey was the creation of my song "FrEQ Wit It." This track is more than just music to me; it is a culmination of my experiences and a celebration of the joy and freedom that music brings. "FrEQ Wit It" is designed to get people dancing, to feel the rhythm, and to let go of their inhibitions. It embodies the essence of feminine-style rap music while staying authentic to my queer identity. I wrote this song in a very playful manner, which exudes the confidence I carry with me every day. If I hadn’t found my way to being an artist, most would say I should’ve been a comedian. As an artist, my strongest skill lies in my lyricism. The years I spent as a poet allowed me to develop a unique voice, one that speaks to the complexities of life, love, and identity. My lyrics are a reflection of my journey, each word carefully chosen to evoke emotion and connection. Transitioning from photography to songwriting and then to performing my own music has been a transformative experience. It has allowed me to step out from behind the camera and into the spotlight, sharing my stories and my truth. The energy of performing and seeing people connect with my music on the dance floor is an unparalleled feeling. I continue to create rap and electronic music that gets people moving, always striving to push the boundaries and explore new sounds. My journey as an independent artist is far from over, and I am excited for what lies ahead. The support from my fans and the music community fuels my passion, and I am grateful for every opportunity to share my art with the world. Instagram Twitter
