- The Lethargics Shove Aside The Myths And Lies With Southern Living
the lethargics continue their quest for the true stories and sounds of Life in the Southeastern U.S. with the four-song EP Southern Living released on June 1, 2024. From the grip-and-rip rock opener Wasteland Of The South to the bittersweet real country of Goodbye Is Always Implied, the lethargics create the music of the hard rains and harder droughts that are what life is about - both in the South and elsewhere. From their first official release in 2021 to Southern Living, the genre-deniers that make up the lethargics band have insisted on leaving the grit in the message while attempting to present engaging music relying on guitars and thoughtful lyrics. Much like the Appalachian Foothills where they were born, raised, and reside, there is an undeniable, even if unseen, hardpan underbelly to their songs. the lethargics are nothing if not authentic, so you will not find fake or exaggerated Southern accents, songs about dirt roads or pickup trucks, or a load of made-up nostalgic crap for a land that never existed. You will find fully absorbed musical influences from years of Rock, Blues, Country, Soul, Punk, Dance, and Jazz music played with honesty and passion - and maybe even occasional skill. You will also find stories of people marginalized and dismissed who live real lives with real circumstances in a hard land of even harder truths, people born with the taste of ashes in their mouths. As the lethargics mostly-leader Darrel puts it: There is beauty in the sadness and sadness in the beauty. This is true Southern Living. Website
- Auregan Exclaims Her New-Found Home With A Fresh Single, "This Freedom"
From Paris to Los Angeles, and finally, Nashville, the Country Artist, and Singer/Songwriter Auregan release an uplifting single titled, "This Freedom." As the only French Singer/Songwriter in Country Music, Auregan is quickly establishing her place in the industry. After garnering vast success through the releases of her previous albums, "Mon Tricorne Noir," "Rock Movie," and "Tortuga," Auregan became noticed by the late Grammy Award-winning Producer BUSBEE, who helped her career skyrocket into the depths of Country music. Auregan found herself in need of a new producer; this is where Jeff Coplan comes in and changes Auregan's career forever. Teaming up with Jeff Coplan to release her single, "This Freedom," Auregan created this song to tell her life's story of landing in LA and driving cross-country while stopping in various states to deliver her unique sounds to new audiences. With the song's tight Country-Rock/Folk instrumentals, Auregan truly has our feet stomping with this self-sufficient single. Auregan's "This Freedom" opens with a warm instrumental delivery through blissful Country instrumentals like the picking of a banjo, organic drum patterns, and twangy electric guitar. As the instrumentals simmer to make way for Auregan's vocal appearance, we're ready to hear what the prodigal artist has to say. Listening to Auregan's lyricism, she tells her cross-country story regarding the journey towards independence and striving to find a place to call home. Finding it in the heart of America, Auregan exclaims her appreciation for this otherworldly feeling of belonging. Reaching the end of the song, we're sent into a transcendent space with the brilliant instrumentals and Auregan's powerhouse vocals. We highly encourage our readers to familiarize themselves with the first French singer/songwriter in Country music, primarily through the release of Auregan's appreciative and independent single, "This Freedom." Why did you decide to create a song that notes your cross-country travels with "This Freedom?" To make it quick, I started a new life in America a couple of years ago, and my goal of starting over here has always been Country Music. I spent months driving across many States, sleeping in the back of my truck. I just wanted to meet people and see as many things as possible with my own eyes. During this journey I made amazing friends, I saw magnificent landscapes, and overall I experienced a lot on a very personal level. Country Music is about honesty, telling your story, and sharing how you feel. It felt natural that my first song after all this would be a song like “This Freedom.” Speaking on the exceptional instrumentation and production within "This Freedom,” What was your creative process like when working with Producer Jeff Coplan? Jeff is an amazing producer, and I think he’s at the top of his game. He trusted me; he felt my story was really worth telling, and I trusted him 100% in return, based on the facts he is a good person and, of course, based on his previous achievements. Everything he does turns into music gold. I knew he would make that song a pure hit, and a good, down to heart song. The process in itself was again very natural: we sat together, discussed a lot, wrote the song together, and then we got into the studio to record. Your songwriting skills are truly top-tier, especially considering English is your second language. How did you create your lyrics for "This Freedom" to capture each moment during your travels across America? Thank you! At some point, I shared with Jeff a long list of ideas, phrases, rhymes, and memories. Some were overviews of my experiences; some were specific sensations like… my toes in the sand. Sometimes, ideas came with a melody, and sometimes, they were just lyrics. We selected the best ideas and tried to retrace my road from Los Angeles to Nashville. The song is a series of moments and feelings I experienced. You feel the golden light on your face, you feel the wind in your hair… It became “The feeling of this Freedom.” We ended with a feel-good song that really fits with where I am in my life right now. Our collaboration with Jeff made this song happen. I am really happy to put out a song that’s positive and brings good vibes. Seeing as you're originally from Paris, you're incredibly fluent in our native tongue of English. What helped you get to know the lyrical content and typical themes of Country music? I gotta say I listen to a lot of Country Music. I discovered contemporary country when renting my first car at LAX years ago. The rental had Sirius Xm, Go Country 105, Kix Hot Country… When you like something, it becomes easy to understand it better every day. Also, I could say the storytelling and the chords that are at the core of Country Music were no stranger to me because my career in Europe was in the Rock and Celtic genre. Celtic Music, to make a big shortcut, comes from Irish Music. Country Music comes from Irish Music, too. I didn’t know it then, but my French career gave me the basics of Contemporary Country! As for knowing the typical themes, I believe Country Music talks true to a lot of people because it speaks of them, and to them. When I was on my journey, I met a lot of people. I’m talking Boyd Texas, Anaconda Montana, SpringHill TN, Tuba City AZ, Grants NM… Not big cities but small towns, and real people. To me, coming from another continent, eating a smoked brisket rolled in a greasy slice of bacon, and talking with the cook who’s just right there on the other side of the counter is an amazing memory. Second, when you live those moments, you start to understand better the real values that country music is about. And that speaks to me. 2020 has been a very challenging year for everyone. What has been keeping you inspired to create music? What advice can you give another artist who's finding it difficult to do so? Well… I left my family and my friends to come here. I am driven. Not much can shake you when you take such a big leap because the most difficult is behind you. Music has been hit very, very hard in 2020, with struggling talents and the largest ventures. I also have had my fair share of down moments. But our strength is to stay creative. People need arts, music, and movies to keep moving forward. COVID canceled all my meetings after CRS, the Country Radio Seminar. I stayed in Nashville and used that time to write. “This Freedom” is the first thing that came out of all this. Giving advice is always difficult. I am not pretending I know how to do it. To me, it’s a lot of alone time with my ukulele, my guitar, and my piano. I see a lot of examples of artists releasing content right now. I think that’s the only way we can try to get our heads out of the water. Instagram
- Explore Your “Healing” Journey With Pinwheel Valley's Therapeutic Sound
Canadian singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Pinwheel Valley (Kais Khoury) takes the complexities of the human condition as inspiration for his fusionist sound that sonically melds indie, psych, soul-infused blues, rock, and folk. As a lover of the metaphysical, Pinwheel Valley's work consists of finding the balance between natural inclinations and the demands in an ego-driven late-stage capitalist world. "Healing" takes us into the artistry of Pinwheel Valley in a swift fashion. Various elements construct a beautiful masterpiece as such. First, the warmth that ricochets through the acoustic guitar strums and into our speakers is a healing vibration of its own. Now, pairing this musical foundation with the indie-folk styling of Pinwheel Valley's rich timbres, we have a therapy session in mere moments. Pinwheel Valley has stated, 'Healing is a deep resonance of something that I've been feeling for a while with struggles that have leached at my lifeblood. Life can be messy, exhausting, and real - we are all facing the intensity of our struggles in different ways.' Taking the reflective component of his thoughts and lacing it with the beauty of his heart, this narrative explores traumas through the nostalgia present in the lyricism. Incorporating a brilliant sense for timing cues, "Healing" lets you sit with the contents of this record and allows you to tap into the wistful sounds first-hand. Aiming for a sense of togetherness through the peaks and valleys of life, Pinwheel Valley intends for each melodic note to resonate with listeners as they are an extension of his spiritual mission to awaken, console and guide. Welcome to Buzz Pinwheel Valley. We're captivated by your latest single, "Healing." Exploring this route of your artistry, what has been the biggest takeaway for you since creating and releasing this piece? A takeaway for me was realizing I can be a poet who can sing you to sleep and a poet who can also prepare you for war. Healing is an awakening track for me and marks a transitional period in my energy and writing. What was the exact moment that sparked your inspiration to dive deeper into the themes expressed? I’m not a big fan of explaining too much. That leaves nothing for the listener to self-interpret. But my point of view was realizing, or dare I say, confirming, that love burns. Really burns. Sometimes, we fall in love with people and with things that poison our purity and make our hearts bleed. That often feels analogous to being alive under a collapsed building and pleading for help. That was the thought process that brought about the song outro, with the closing lyrics: bleeding, breathing, searching for healing. How was the experience of working with Andreas Matheou and Brock McFarlane? I love working with both. Andreas is under-appreciated, in my opinion, and at times misinterpreted. And Brock understands my sound pretty well by now, so the back and forths in case of last-minute mix changes are never a hassle for him. Music demands patience, and working with people that have patience is what makes this intense industry worthwhile. What do you hope that your audience can take away from this piece? What has helped you deal with the traumas conveyed in "Healing?" Again, it’s open to interpretation. But the song, generally, is about calling for conscious awakening. I’d like the audience to visualize the intersection of dreams, depression, happiness, ambition, passion, politics, and love within the canvas of the tune. As for dealing with the trauma, writing the song itself helped me deal with that to a large extent. Sometimes, the best thing you can do with trauma is channel it into writing or meaningful works of art. In our often painful sojourn on earth, time helps as well, as well as the grace of God. What's next for you? Well, I’ve just been picked up by a major London, LA-based PR company that I’ll be working in tandem with on a roadmap for future releases. They came across the song somehow and thought I’d make a good addition to their roster. So that’s nice. I won’t reveal more, though, as babbling on about your plans only jinxes them (as they say), so I’ll put the rest of that response on the back burner for now. Instagram Facebook

Whenever you’re ready, tap in and stream Bella Gate’s enchanting new single, “Sleepwalking”, out now on all majour platforms. Welcome to Buzz, Bella Gate! We loved “Sleepwalking” so much that we had to ask: What inspired this song? Were you drawing from personal experience? Thanks for having me, Buzz! This song was inspired by those tumultuous teenage years, which I think are almost a universal experience. You’re 15, you’re “falling in love,” and it’s all a bit messy. I actually wrote the song with my friend Joe Haynes when I was 20, so it’s more of a reflection on adolescent love. What was your favorite part of the creative process for bringing “Sleepwalking” to life? I came up with these chords, and they were pretty funky (I couldn’t even tell you their names at the time). Then I brought them to Joe, and he kept rolling with them while I focused on the top lining. It all came together so quickly. It’s a good feeling. What does music mean to you, and what do you think is the most essential quality for an artist to have? This is cliché, but music means everything to me. Music and family are the big two in my life. While it’s super important that artists have clear visions, their flexibility, and ability to collaborate are crucial. What do you want your listeners to feel when they hear a Bella Gate release? Every release by an artist is like another piece of a jigsaw puzzle, and I hope that all my songs give a cohesive but varied image of life. What’s next for Bella Gate, and is there anything you’d like to say to your fans? I’ve got a single called Drink With Me coming out on June 21st, 2024, and then there is a pretty big announcement coming over the summer… Instagram Facebook

Blending dreamy instrumentation with powerful lyrics is singer-songwriter and versatile recording artist D. We're really moved by the depth and power of your latest single, "Senator Senator." What inspired you to write a song that touches on themes of politics, love, and loss? Thank you for the kind words! Why would I write a political song? For context, I come at the word "politics" like its shorthand for "the ongoing negotiation of a people's shared life together." Doesn't that kind of defang an often filthy-sounding word? Shouldn't we all want to be part of the ongoing negotiation of our shared life together? I remember the moment the first lyric for "Senator Senator" hit me in the late summer of 2023. I was inspired by an op-ed wherein the author argued that elected leaders don't mind our country's obsession with culture wars -- if common folk gets preoccupied enough with the back-and-forth of a culture war, they just might fail to notice the implementation of concrete policy and governing decisions that affect their daily lives, like the Federal Reserve continually raising interest rates (that was the example in the author's article). Before I sound too partisan -- I get that it's a tough job to cool inflation, it sucks to raise interest rates, and the economy is a delicate beast—no shade to Jerome Powell. What stuck with me from the article was this idea that once we elect folks to public office, they seem to operate not in the public interest. That's what "Senator Senator" is about, along with a (possibly) ridiculous belief that our elected officials could still turn from the Dark Side ("There is still good in him" - Luke Skywalker). Your sound smoothly transitions between dreamy alt-rock and edgier moments in "Senator Senator." How did you approach crafting the song's dynamic arrangement and production? I often hear drums, guitars, keys, and other instruments when I'm writing a song, like, "Ooh, what would drums be like in this section?" or "Could this use some horns?" I spent my teenage years recording home demos with drums, guitars, and keys, so it's some muscle memory I draw on quite a bit, almost instinctively at this point. That's the first answer. The second and arguably more important answer is that "Senator Senator" wouldn't be what it is today without collaborating with my friend (and Engineer/Producer) Cameron Bina (of Cam Bina, the Band). He and I have been working on this record since November of last year, and I think we've both been pleasantly surprised at what phenomenal working chemistry we have in the studio. What's made this process really, really special is that we've been recording these songs straight to a cassette tape on a Yamaha MT8X, trying to get near-perfect takes of various instruments on the eight tracks available to us before we make use of any digital recording tech. Every song on this record, including "Senator Senator," has a warmer, vintage undertone due to these production choices, and I couldn't be happier about that. Regarding the lyrics in "Senator," was it challenging to open up and share such personal feelings and experiences through your songwriting? Pessimistically or self-consciously, I know it's kind of "en vogue" to criticize politicians and the political class. It can be easy to write off protest songs because of the ubiquity of political statements in our culture and all over social media. For me, some level of civic engagement is non-negotiable, and I think more of us should be engaged in some kind of advocacy, protest, or organizing work. When your senator, councilmember, or presidential candidate takes the big bucks from corporate special interests in exchange for political influence or favors, he or she is not looking out for your community, your family, or you. And that ought to feel personal for each of us, I think. The lyrics for "Senator Senator" reflect that frustration, tinged with tongue-in-cheek sincerity. How do you feel your background as a former minister and community organizer shapes your artistic perspective and the issues you explore in your music? As a minister and community organizer, I spent a lot of time and energy talking about values and meaning. Who matters? What matters? What does a good life look like? What does thriving and belonging look like? To me, the best of ministry and organizing gets to the same question: what does it mean to love my neighbor? And if that isn't a political question, I'm not sure what is (if politics = the ongoing negotiation of a people's shared life together). Being a person of faith taught me that people really matter, that loving others really matters; becoming politically involved in community organizing taught me that love in public looks like pursuing justice (to paraphrase Cornel West) -- fighting for affordable housing, ending homelessness, standing with marginalized folks, and on. When I left the ministry, it became really important to me that my songwriting integrate those values and reflect those questions of meaning. What do you hope listeners take away from hearing "Senator Senator?" What kind of impact do you aim to have with a song like this? I hope folks who are generous enough to take a listen to "Senator Senator" ENJOY the experience, first off. It's a fun, uptempo tune with some interesting musical stuff going on. I still have fun when I listen to it (and I've heard it more times in the last several months than anyone reading this will in their entire lifetimes). But more to your point, I think: to the folks who are feeling jaded by our political mess (rightfully), I hope "Senator Senator" is cathartic. I hope it can offer some further language for them to feel the frustration of having elected officials who care more for their pensions and corporate payouts than the populations they represent. Secondly, to the folks who don't have much of a civic life, who haven't had the chance or the time to get involved with "politics" (the ongoing negotiation of a people's shared life together), I hope "Senator Senator" at least demonstrates what's at stake if we're not engaged in that conversation. At best, politicians cave to special interests and line their personal pockets. At worst, those special interests sway public policy in ways that destroy communities, the environment, and probably democracy in the United States as we know it. It's kind of a heavy note to end on. Find a local community organizing group doing work in an arena of public life that you care about (immigrants' rights, tenants' rights, affordable housing, food justice, LGBTQ advocacy, raising the minimum wage, voting rights, and on and on and on. - Linn Holmes Is In A Vintage Daydream With New Single “Baby Blue”
Music has always been a big part of Linn's life. She grew up in Sweden and music was always sung and played in the house she grew up in. Her mother was in a gospel choir and would bring Linn to their rehearsals, while her dad would always be so thrilled to share his favorite records with his daughter. Linn's mother and father always had this massive appreciation and admiration for music, which Linn refers to as a major influence. Furthermore, Linn began singing in a gigging choir around the age of 3, and they performed at their first TV performance about a year later. She began playing classical instruments and eventually began studying at a "conservatory-esque" music school at the age of 9. From there, it kept going - Linn was studying everything from classical to jazz, blues, and rock. She then started her first band - a band named Spiridoula - and began playing gigs all around Stockholm. Linn says "We were just so inspired by all these 70s bands, such as Fleetwood Mac and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, writing songs feverishly and just itching to perform." Inspired by her 70s heroes, Linn moved to Los Angeles - which is where she resides today. Instagram

Not even one minute into this song and we're hooked. Everything from Nick's warm and charismatic vocals to the incorporation of Brazilian drums makes it irresistible, but his lyrical message is the cherry on top. Nick Souza is embracing the change with open arms. And throughout the process, maybe someone special will come "Running" back into his arms. Explore the undeniable musical talent and irresistible rhythmic styles of Nick Souza and his latest single, "Running," now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to Buzz, Nick! We love the rhythm and concept of your recent single, "Running." What inspired you to create such an engaging, uplifting song about embracing a new transformation? Thanks for having me and thanks for the kind words about the song! Honestly what inspired me to make the song was some lifestyle changes that I was making at the time and a talking stage that I was in. I was connecting deeply with the person about personal growth, career goals, and fitness goals - it felt like we were both aligning in a great way where we would be a great match for one another and that's what inspired the song. The energy was magnetic as if we were running to one another. Did you produce "Running" solo, or was that a collaborative process? Could you expand on how you brought such a rhythmically groovy song to life? I produced it completely by myself! I was scrolling through TikTok and found some Kuduro producers from Angola—another Portuguese-speaking country in Africa—and I loved how their drums are similar to the Brazilian Funk style drums that I've been experimenting with. I decided to try and fuse those two worlds together. What was your songwriting process like for "Running?" What themes or concepts did you want to get across in your lyrics? The main theme was definitely the suspense element of the beginnings of a romantic relationship. The first thing that came to me was the intro line, "Step out looking fresh just in case I run into you." Toronto is a much smaller city than we give it credit for and running into people spontaneously is super common, so if you're going somewhere popping - especially in the summer - you got to make sure you're putting it on in case you run into that specific person. Another main theme is the confidence that comes with being the best version of yourself and knowing you're a good match for the person you're interested in. Would you say that "Running" is the perfect follow-up to "Try Again?" Is there a running theme or similarities between these two songs? I honestly didn't plan for the songs to have a narrative sequencing to them, but thanks to this question I realized that they do which is pretty awesome because of how unintentional it was. I'd say theme-wise, it's more so a concept of glowing up, going through tough situations, whether that be a breakup, struggles with a career, or a more personal struggle, and overcoming them. It starts with the resilience to 'Try Again' despite the difficulties and failures, to keep the pace and keep "Running" to the next chapter, and to enjoy life and evolve - which is a main theme subject matter-wise for sure. Production-wise it's more experimenting with different elements of dance music and contextualizing them in a way that hasn't been done, and infusing that exotic, vibrant Brazilian flare to it with the drums. What do you hope listeners take away from "Running?" What was your goal in that respect? I want the people who listen to Running to go outside in the sun with their friends, to enjoy life, to fall in love with themselves and the world around them. I want them to dance, sing, and seek to become more fulfilled, happier, and better people not only for themselves but for the communities they are a part of. Instagram Facebook
