- The Backsteps Are Coming Up 'Six To Midnight'
The Backsteps is a Canadian rock band composed of talented members who have been actively involved in the local music scene since 2015. Their journey began when Seth Hunt (guitar and vocals) and Devin Pierce (drums) founded the band under the name Mudd. Quickly thereafter, they began writing their original songs and performing gigs in their hometown of Kingston, Ontario. In 2017, the band changed their name to Figure 8, and in 2018, they welcomed a new member, Luke Garrison (bass and vocals), which completed their first lineup. After making demos and performing live shows for a few months, the band had the opportunity to record some singles with a local producer. These singles garnered streams in various countries and even entered local radio stations. By the end of 2019, the band had built a growing fanbase and was performing more gigs across Ontario. In the same year, Josh McEvoy (guitar) joined the band, and they decided to finalize their name as The Backsteps. The band's goal was to build a career in music, and they were well on their way to achieving it. In early 2020, The Backsteps recorded a demo for their first album, 'Oh Yeah,' released in July of the same year. Like their previous singles, 'Oh Yeah' gained thousands of streams in several countries and captured the attention of Canadian talent management companies. The band promoted the demo by performing a variety of gigs across Ontario, including a sold-out show at The Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto. The Backsteps released their debut album, 'Goodbye Youth,' in the summer of 2021, and their fanbase continued to grow. Their sold-out shows in various cities across eastern Canada helped them gain traction and interest from different parts of North America and beyond. In March 2022, the band made their US debut at the Whisky a Go-Go in Hollywood, sharing the stage with legendary Misfits guitarist Doyle. Most recently, The Backsteps released a brand new EP in February of 2023, which has been very positively received. The band plans to record a full-length album this summer and hopes to tour the UK shortly after. With their unique sound, The Backsteps' latest EP features five new tracks that showcase their growth and creativity as a band. As we enter the world of 'Six To Midnight,' we are greeted with" Room on Fire," a slow build fills your eardrums as you're thrust into some true "on top of a mountain" feels as Seth croons out straight from his soul amid a grand selection of sounds." Room on Fire" is a true rock and roll banger that sets the tone for the entire record. The song kicks off with a catchy guitar riff that is immediately infectious, and as soon as the drums come in, it's clear that this band knows how to rock. The song tells a story of a fiery passion and desires just to be able to breathe life back into something that's been burning for too long. Enter "My Woman" with no bars held right from the start; we are greeted with a heavy-duty guitar riff full of attitude and charisma with vocal melodies akin to the best parts of the nostalgic era of rock we all are up with. Luke's vocals take center stage as he effortlessly sails across the grungy waves making "My Woman" a pure anthem with the marching drums to match that are sure to have you stomping your feet to the beat. The lyrics are a love letter to someone special, a fiery valkyrie capable of drowning you in fantasy and a dreamy fantasy Luke indeed drowns in as the song builds to a powerful crescendo, with the drums and bass kicking in for a dramatic finish. The third track, "She Isn't Calling Back," is powerful and emotional, exploring themes of heartbreak and loneliness. The guitar riffs are awe-inspiring, with Seth intricate plucking his heart into every riff as he takes us right into heartbreak hotel; strap yourself in for an emotional ride full of energy and catchy early 2000s vibes. The driving percussion and bass lines give the song incredible momentum, as if you're in the front row at your favourite band's show. Devin Pierce is completely shining on this one giving us crunchy hits that are refined to science with rolls and triplets, showing that he is a true thrasher. The fourth track, "Sweet Escape," is a standout track on the EP, featuring emotional guitar strums that pluck at your soul and send you into a state of introspection as the vocals transcend you into the dream to make it to something more than yourself. "Sweet Escape" is arguably the catchiest song on the EP, with a hook that will have you tapping your foot and humming along in no time. The lyrics tell the story of a couple that has lost their way and is looking for a way back home to serenity. The elegantly moody song takes us into a nostalgia town with fresh but familiar tones and layers. Luke Garrison steps forward with his deep bass work as he sets an undisputed foundation for the hopefully gloomy tone of the song; the deepness of the bass is sure to blast across the crowd for live shows. As the song ends, we are with a sombre solo that will send shivers down your spine. Finally, the EP closes with "Best Time of My Life," a calm campfire-like song perfectly encapsulates The Backsteps' enthusiasm and love for music with this triumphant anthem that celebrates living life to the fullest. The lyrics are about embracing the moment and making the most of every opportunity, with a positive, uplifting message that will leave you feeling inspired as Luke's vocals rip through you as the song draws to the end. Again, the guitar work is excellent, with a soaring shredded solo that brings the EP to a powerful conclusion. The EP showcases the band's impressive growth and highlights their ability to create engaging, well-crafted, memorable rock music. With this latest release, The Backsteps are undoubtedly on their way to significantly impacting the international rock scene. Welcome to BuzzMusic The Backsteps, and congrats on your massive release with "Six To Midnight" Your new EP has a great mix of high-energy rock and roll tracks like "Room on Fire" and more introspective ballads like "Sweet Escape.” How did you approach balancing these styles on the EP, and what was the process of selecting the final track list like? Seth: Thanks! Balancing the different styles on the EP was a struggle at certain times. We’ve primarily been known to write 2-minute rock songs straight to the point. “Room On Fire” was the first track we wrote and recorded for the EP, setting the tone for the rest. It’s an upbeat song with a darker undertone, which paved the way for songs like “Sweet Escape.” We had about 15 demos we were going through. We eventually narrowed it down to 7 songs or something like that. Then once we got in the studio, we saw what would fit and wouldn’t work. It was all kind of based on feel and ambition. If a song had a good feel and an organic writing process, then that’s when we knew they were songs that belonged on the EP. You guys have built a strong following with your energetic live shows. How did you translate that energy and excitement to the recording studio, and what techniques did you use to capture the band's live sound on the EP? Josh: After releasing our last record, "Goodbye Youth," we realized that our slower songs performed better on streaming platforms, whereas our faster songs seemed to captivate our live audience much more. When recording "Six to Midnight," we wanted to capture both the elements of our catchy slower songs while maintaining a high energy level, as seen in our live performances. One of the ways we did this was by recording live off the floor for most of the record. We found that recording this way made us all feel much more comfortable in the studio because it felt more like a jam session than recording in the studio, allowing us to perform with a much higher level of intensity as if it was indeed a live performance. We inevitably overdubbed some additional tracks onto the choruses of each song to give a much bigger sound to the chorus and allow some room for dynamics in the music. Another way that we were able to capture a high-energy sound in the studio while maintaining our catchy pop choruses was by reworking some of our slow-tempo music into more ambitious rock songs. "She Isn't Calling Back" was originally a slower acoustic song written by Seth and Luke. We all liked the song a lot but found that it lacked energy for our live shows, so we all sat down one day and reworked the song multiple times until we could find a way to make it into the high-energy rock song it is now. We found doing these things allowed us to capture our live shows' highly intense sound while maintaining our catchy melodic sound. "My Woman" is a standout track on the new EP, with its catchy guitar riffs and soulful vocal performance. Can you tell us about the writing process behind this track and what inspired the lyrics? Luke: We’re glad My Woman stood out to you because we had a lot of fun recording it in the studio! All four band members recorded part of a guitar solo on the track, which was something new for us to try, and it seems to have worked. The song was written in quite a short time, and lyrically, it is meant to be very up-front. The inspiration for the words is partly from us being fans of Arctic Monkeys and how Alex Turner tends to be very straight to the point with his lyrics. My Woman is a typical love song revolving around the girl of someone’s fancy, but it doesn’t beat around the bush; it paints a picture of precisely what the author wants you to see. The Backsteps have been active in the Canadian music scene for several years, playing shows and building a fan base. How has the band's approach to songwriting and recording evolved over time, and how has your local scene influenced your sound? Devin: "Six To Midnight" marked the biggest change for us regarding writing and recording. Our first two records were entirely self-produced and recorded, except for several previously recorded singles. We did everything so quickly and didn't know what we were doing. With this new EP, I feel we have our feet under us a bit more. We had a much stronger idea of the type of record we wanted to make. We went into a real studio and took our time with these songs to make them the best they could be. We gave every track equal attention, but we were lucky enough to have our friends, Boris and Cam from the local band Kasador, help us out during the writing process of "Room On Fire." It's nice to have that kind of support from other members of our local scene. That being said, I think we have the desire to be different from everyone else, especially musically. I think that desire has helped us develop a unique sound and overall vibe within our local scene and hopefully helps us stand out from the crowd a little bit. The Backsteps have been making waves in the Canadian rock scene for a few years now, and your recent U.S. debut has only helped to expand your fan base. How do you see the band's trajectory going forward, and what goals do you have for the future? Seth: A big goal for our band right from the start was to tour the US. Being from Canada, we see a lot of bands tour Canada primarily and then get stuck in Canada. We wanted to branch out and play in major US cities where we could grow the most as a band. As far as the future goes, we plan on playing some festivals this summer and multiple headline shows in different Ontario cities. Then we want to return to recording this spring and head overseas to the UK next year to tour. The UK has been a bucket list destination for the band since day 1, so making that happen would be awesome. We will be coming in hot this year, and we want to take the music scene over! Instagram
- Christian Parker Sails Us Through The "Spirit Of The Trees”
Christian Parker's latest release, "Spirit of the Trees," is a pure and heartfelt adaptation of a poem written by a friend's wife before her passing. Parker picks his way through the sombre, strolling epitaph, arranging the poem's words and adding his lyrics to create a message that, while in mourning, ultimately hails hope. The author envisions being embraced and immersed in a homecoming to mother nature, and through Parker's tender voice and shimmering guitar, her peace transcends her passing. Parker's journey in music began with mourning, as the day before his first guitar lesson, news broke of John Lennon's passing. From there, the US-Canadian border-based bard has embarked on a constant and subtle journey in song, releasing seven studio albums that chart the path of his multifaceted life as an artist, husband, father, friend, and contemplative. Each project has propelled his trajectory with new insights from collaborators across various musical genres, and disciplined studies of various songwriting styles have sharpened his skills to write with innate authenticity and heart and catchy, approachable melodies and cross-genre musicality. The "Spirit of the Trees" music video provides a gentle backdrop for the melancholic homage. Amongst the trees, we find Parker strumming, picking, and singing to nature and those who have passed to become one with the forest. A kaleidoscopic filter gradually fades over the frames, suggesting a beautiful new perspective on life through death. As the ode whites out on its final harmonic, we take a last breath, collect ourselves, and move on in gratitude for life's beauty. As we listen to "Spirit of the Trees," we are transported to introspection and reflection. Parker's emotive vocals draw us in, and his intricate guitar work weaves a rich tapestry of sound that complements the lyrics beautifully. The song's message is universal, reminding us of the cycles of life and death and the interconnectedness of all living things. The lyrics are filled with vivid imagery that paints a picture of a peaceful, natural world. “Praising the sun, praising the sky,” sings Parker, and you can almost feel the sun's warmth on the rustling leaves swaying in the breeze…you are the leaves and all that is green while listening to "Spirit of the Trees." The song's chorus, "The spirit of the trees standing in the deep, branches reaching down upon our mother's feet,” evokes a sense of comfort and belonging that transcends life and death. "Spirit of the Trees" is a beautiful and moving tribute to a life that has passed and a celebration of the enduring power of nature. Parker's skillful songwriting and soulful delivery create a music that is both emotionally resonant and musically satisfying, leaving us with a sense of hope and wonder. This latest release is a testament to Parker's continued growth as an artist and his ability to connect with his audience deeply and meaningfully. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Christian Parker. Glowing applause for releasing your new cosmic journey on “Spirit of the Trees." How did the poem that inspired "Spirit of the Trees" come into your life, and what drew you to adapt it into a song? In the summer of 2022, a musician friend shared a poem his late wife had written before her passing. It was titled “The Spirits of the Trees. “As soon as I read it, it immediately drew me in. I could hear her voice and knew it was the last poem she had written. It was filled with imagery and beauty. For several months I considered turning it into a song but was uncertain if my friend would approve. One day in late November, he asked me what I had thought of her poem. I told him it was beautiful and asked permission to write a song in which he gave his blessing. On a cold December weekend, I stared at the paper it was written on until its meaning was revealed. In three days, it was completely done, adding additional lyrical content and writing the melody. It was a special song, and I was honoured to be given the opportunity to create it. In the "Spirit of the Trees" music video, you are shown singing and playing guitar in a serene forest setting. Where did the setting take you spiritually? And how did the natural surroundings influence your performance? In the video, the trees offered a spiritual element that made me feel part of her story. I felt it needed to bring the listener to the scene. Playing in the forest setting helped me, as an artist, convey her beautiful poem and bring lyrical interpretation to the visual world. It also helped me feel spiritually connected to the song. "Spirit of the Trees" features calming lyrics about finding solace in nature and a sense of homecoming after a long goodbye. How do you hope your music can provide comfort and perspective for listeners during difficult times? We all silently hope that our loved ones are safe after we leave this world. The very last line of the song, ‘protect all I love across the great divide,’ is the final message of hope for our loved ones. You mentioned that you are producing a two-volume tribute album to The Byrds. Can you describe how their music influenced your songwriting and approach to this project? This Byrds Tribute album has been on my mind for a few years. I first heard the Byrds when I was 16, and they influenced my musical journey more than any other band. I was always drawn to the diversity in their music, starting as America's answer to the Beatles and then taking a left turn in 1968 on the classic cosmic country album ‘Sweetheart of the Rodeo.’ Many artists, like Tom Petty and REM, and modern country have roots in these classic recordings. My approach to this tribute is to honour the songs in a real and organic way. We have been able to have some of the original session players contribute to this record. This will be very inspirational for other musicians who hear these songs done in a modern way but true to the original. Instagram Facebook
- Grace Carey-Hill Sends Her Love With “ily”
"ily," the latest release by RB/Soul artist Grace Carey-Hill, is a captivating song that showcases the artist's unique style and influences. The song, which stands for "I love you," is a dreamy lullaby through the seeking of something real in relationship land, delivered with Grace's distinct blend of RB and soul. At 24, Grace has already developed a mature and fresh sound, drawing inspiration from icons like Amy Winehouse, Ariana Grande, and Lawerence. Her passion for music has led her from the West Coast to the heart of country music, Nashville, where she has honed her craft and developed her voice. "ily" opens with a hypnotic beat, instantly capturing the listener's attention. As Grace's vocals enter, they bring a sense of longing and vulnerability, perfectly capturing the feelings of falling in love. The chorus is an earworm that stays with the listener long after the song is over, with Grace's smokey voice soaring over the R&B-infused melody and like a trip to cotton candy wonderland; this is a sweet one. Grace's lyrics are honest and raw throughout the song, touching on the complexities of relationships and the struggles of opening up to another person. Her voice is the perfect vehicle for these emotions, conveying a sense of depth and understanding beyond her years. In "ily," Grace Carey-Hill has created a standout track showcasing her talents as a singer and songwriter. With its infectious beat and heartfelt lyrics, this song will resonate with listeners of all ages and backgrounds. We can't wait to see what Grace has for us next. Sail into this one today; available everywhere. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Grace Carey-Hill! Kudos for letting out your feelings on “ily,” which is such an emotional and personal song. Can you tell us a little bit about what inspired you to write it? Thank you! I was overanalyzing relationships and endings. I can get caught up in the need for closure and the mess surrounding it. I'll spend forever crafting the right way to express it all perfectly. When we started ily, it seemed so obvious and simple that I love you could say it all. Easier said than done, though, right? In "ily," you touch on the complexities of relationships and the struggles of opening up to another person. Can you speak to how your own experiences have influenced your songwriting? The beautiful thing about relationships is that despite all looking different, they all boil down to many of the exact wants and needs. In past relationships, I think I've felt lonely in the end. Especially as a person with an anxious attachment style, I tend to feel like everyone around me doesn't feel as intensely as I do. Songwriting has helped me not only put my messy feelings into words but has connected me with so many people that say, "it's like you wrote this for me." It only encouraged my messy thoughts and honest songwriting. The R&B and soul influence in "ily" are so distinctive and unique. How has your musical style been influenced by artists like Amy Winehouse, Ariana Grande, and Lawerence? Amy has inspired me since I discovered my musical taste at 14. Her jazz background and vocal talent inspired the way I've studied music. Her effortless yet grounding vocal style rings in my ears at all times. Ariana's voice and honesty within her songs have inspired so much of where I am going and writing now. How she writes and sings from such a powerful yet sensitive woman's perspective has always spoken to me and how I want to write. The music that Amy, Ariana, and Lawerence write stretches and explores so many genres and sounds. As a musician, I have difficulty picking a genre; I love them all and want to touch each one. Lawerence, especially, has inspired me to combine so many into the songs I write. "ily" has a powerful chorus that stays with the listener long after the song ends. How do you approach writing a hook that is both memorable and meaningful? Thank you so much! When I write with my favourite co-writer, Josh Zegan, who wrote this with me, we spit out countless hooks until the right melody or lyrics stick. Then we build from there. When writing a hook, I want what it says to connect with the audience just as much as the melody does. Like most songwriters, I think I have a notes app full of hooks and lines that stick in my brain -- those always help when the writing session needs an extra push. "ily" is such a standout track. How do you select which songs you want to release to the public? I think it helps to have people in my inner circle that I trust to help me discern what's worth sharing, what may need some extra love, and what can stay in the archives. I want to release things that have an intense meaning or tie to me. I want to love it and blast it in my car regardless of if my name is attached. Lastly, I want it to add to the noise on all of the music platforms rather than be just another song on Spotify. I hope that makes sense, haha! You've already accomplished so much at such a young age. What are some of your long-term goals for your music career? Long-term, I would love to get signed to a label someday and make this my full-time career. I would love to open for and tour with musicians I respect within this industry. Lastly, I would love to collaborate with some other, bigger artists. I would love to write with them, watch how they work, and sing alongside them. Instagram TikTok
- Frandie Chases His “Dreams” In His Powerful New Release
Based in Brooklyn, New York, Frandie is a rising star in the world of hip-hop, bringing a fresh perspective to the genre with his vivid storytelling and penchant for connecting with fans through the sheer refined emotion he injects into his music, a unique blend of English and Spanish lyrics and a diverse range of musical influences. Raised in Brooklyn but with roots in the Dominican Republic, Frandie is a bilingual lyricist who tastefully infuses his heritage into his music and effortlessly switches from Spanish and English lyrics on occasion, dropping fire lyrics in both. As a self-taught musician, Frandie's music is a testament to his dedication, passion for the musical arts, and artistic genius. His obvious talent for storytelling is showcased through his poignant lyrics. He refuses to make shallow music, often showcasing a rare vulnerability in the genre while touching on complex themes of love, loss, self-doubt and self-discovery. That isn’t to say he isn’t confident, though; his rhymes are executed with a poise that indicates even if he may doubt himself, he knows he has the tools to succeed. For the uninitiated, “Dreams” is the perfect introduction to the world of Frandie. Over hip-hop instrumentals that give off the slightest feel of trepidation and introspection, Frandie gives us the whole Frandie experience. Lyrics like “They're chasing me / Man, I'm talking about my dreams, I thought it was supposed to be / The other way around” allude to some of the introspection and vulnerability we mentioned earlier, yet lines like “But the killer was me / Telling me that I'm the one stopping my dreams” indicate that in Frandie’s mind, the only one who can stop him from reaching his vast potential is himself. With each new release, Frandie further identifies himself as someone to watch in the world of Hip-Hop. Whenever you’re ready, tap in and stream “Dreams” by Frandie, available now on all major streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic Frandie! We loved “Dreams,” we had to ask! What was the inspiration behind this release, and can you take us through the creative process you had for making “Dreams?" Thank you, thank you! Glad you guys loved it! "Dreams" has been simmering for some time now. It's one of the first songs I wrote when I started taking rap seriously about 5 years ago. I kept having a recurring dream where someone sabotaged my happiness and enjoyment. I wrote this song to figure out what my subconscious was saying to me. I held off on releasing it for a while because I came up with the concept for the music video simultaneously, but I couldn't execute it the way I wanted to until now. So I'm glad my original vision finally came to life. So you mentioned you’re Brooklyn born and raised, but you also have roots in the Dominican Republic! How do you incorporate those roots into your music? Yeah! I lived in the Dominican Republic for 3 years; they were super formative. To this day, most of my close friends are the people I met there during my childhood, so I'm in DR all the time. Those roots influence me beyond music, but in terms of writing and composing, many of my songs have English and Spanish lyrics. Some songs are completely in Spanish. I like transitioning between the two, finding words that rhyme in different languages but still delivering a cohesive message. It's also how I speak (laughs); I go back and forth between both a lot, so it felt authentic to incorporate that into my craft. Part of what sets you apart is your vivid storytelling. Can you take us through your creative process, whether it was for “Dreams” or in general? Every song is a bit different, but it often starts with a small idea or concept, sometimes even a random lyric that popped into my head that I'd like to build a song around. From there, I start to compose the song or produce the instrumental. Before I started rapping, I was a guitarist and songwriter in a rock band, so I have a background in writing and arranging. It's important to me that the music brings the listener a similar feeling even if they heard it without the lyrics. From there, I start playing with melodies and flows, trying different things to see what's catchy and how one section leads into the next. The final step is to flesh out the lyrics within that template, which takes me the longest because I feel it requires the most tact. How would you describe your music to a new listener? I had another interviewer ask me a similar question about how I'd describe myself, and these are always hard for me to answer because I feel like it's weird to talk about yourself (laughs). I'd probably say vulnerable, authentic, raw, and catchy. I feel like there are two Frandies musically. There's the confident and braggadocious Frandie, who knows what he brings. Then there's sad, mellow, and contemplative Frandie, who writes about heartache and how he can sometimes get in his way. But I think those parts can coexist. I like to show people that you can be self-assured even in the healing process. They're not mutually exclusive. What’s next for Frandie? Can we expect to hear more new music soon? I'm releasing a few projects in the coming months that I'm excited about. Aside from featuring other artists' songs, I'll release "Twosday Deluxe Edition" soon. "Twosday" was a series of songs I released, two at a time, starting in 2020. There is six volumes total, so I will put them all in one place for listeners and add some remixed and reimagined versions of songs, which I had a great time working on. Later in the year, I'll release my second EP, a follow-up to my first release, "Focus.". I'm putting the finishing touches on that and am excited for folks to hear it. So, expect something new from me monthly for the rest of the year! (laughs). Instagram

But it's not just Ford's stage presence that's captivating. Inspired by the isolation of the pandemic, Ford has written a slew of new music that builds on the infectious dance-pop of "Dream Fever." From the euphoric "CRZMKR" to the captivating tracks that introduce him to the world anew, Dean Ford is ready to set the world on fire. The video for Dean Ford's hit song "CRZMKR" is a visual feast that perfectly complements the infectious energy of the track. The video opens with a spooky shot of the moon, letting you know it's about to be a thriller of an experience. With a strong colour-graded grainy look that harkens back to cult B-horror films of the 80s, the tone is set perfectly, making you feel cold yet cozy at the same time. As the song kicks into gear, we are greeted with neon blues and reds that are a stark contrast to when the shots cut from a life of normalcy back to a haunted dreamscape "CRZMKR" makes great use of lighting and colour, with each scene bathed in vivid hues that perfectly match the mood of the music. Shots of Ford against a dark black setting sitting in a void like prey in a spider's web and contrasting scenes from the bus to an office space show two sides of Ford becoming undone. One of the most visually stunning moments in the video comes towards the middle when the screen begins to warp, Ford’s nose begins to bleed and then…(you’ll have to watch the video to find out the trippy reveal lol) Overall, the video for "CRZMKR" is a fantastic visual experience and a perfect representation of the track's infectious energy and upbeat vibe. The video is a true trip for the senses with its striking colour pallet and tones, witty concept, and clever use of effects and lighting. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Dean Ford. Cheers to your latest visual experience with "CRZMKR" This video is a stunning representation of the song's cold tones. Can you tell us about the inspiration behind the video and how you worked with the director to bring your vision to life? Thank you! I’m obsessed with horror movies, so the idea for the video was heavily influenced by that. We wanted something cinematic, psychedelic and kind of abstract. While developing the concept, we discussed our mutual admiration for specific films and directors, ultimately landing on David Lynch, Dario Argento, and John Carpenter for inspiration. The song encourages listeners to take control of their lives and make their own way. How has this message influenced your personal and creative journey as an artist? I try to be present and aware at the moment while still focusing on moving forward, which is not always easy—being conscious of how the people in my life and my environment are affecting me and vice versa. I’m a work in progress. There’s always room to grow, but you’ve got to love yourself and be ok with the fact that it will never be “perfect.” You've cited artists like David Bowie, Prince, and Madonna as inspirations for your music. How have these influences shaped your sound and style, and what do you hope listeners take away from your new music? That’s just what I grew up on. I completely absorbed those artists’ work from a very young age, so that influence will always be there, whether intentional or not. I’ve just always loved artists who create their own theatrical universe. The kind of stuff that transports you somewhere else entirely. It’s an escape. Life can be tough, so I make music that makes me feel good for anyone who takes the time to listen. I hope it makes them feel good too. Your live shows are known for being incredibly high-energy and captivating. How do you ensure that each performance feels fresh and exciting? That’s the goal! I want to put on the kind of show I want to see. If I feel like I’m on autopilot or just going through the motions, that’s when I change it up. I’ve also been known to be pretty impulsive, so the chance of doing the same show the exact same way every night is slim. You've had a long and successful career as a beloved Prince tribute artist in addition to your solo music. What can fans expect from you in the coming years, and how do you plan to continue evolving as an artist? That’s very kind! I will continue touring with the Prince tribute show while doing more original shows. I have a new EP, 'Dream Fever,' coming out in the next few months and lots more new music in the pipeline. I love experimenting with new sounds and styles so that I won’t get bored soon. Lots of exciting stuff in the works! Instagram Facebook
- Junovxrse Tells It Like It Is On “I’m Blue Fuck You”
Junovxrse, a rising independent soul indie artist, has recently dropped her latest single, "I'm Blue Fuck You." Born in Los Angeles, California, but raised in Phoenix, Arizona, Junovxrse's passion for music was ignited at the tender age of three when she sang at Debbie Day Care Center in Inglewood, California. Her family quickly recognized her talent and actively supported her by taking her on several acting and singing auditions throughout her childhood. Junovxrse's love for music continued to flourish throughout her school years, where she participated in choir at Luke Elementary School and later joined the theatre and choir at Dysart High School. However, Juno's true love for music did not manifest until her high school career ended, when she began writing music. After encountering the tragic loss of her grandmother, Viola Mae Caesar, Junovxrse stopped singing to focus on her education at Northern Arizona University. It wasn't until 2019 that she recorded her first single under her new stage name, Junovxrse. Since then, Junovxrse has been steadily producing music and carving out a name for herself in the music industry. Junovxrse's latest release, "I'm Blue Fuck You," is a bold and unapologetic track that showcases her unique sound and style. The song is full of catchy melodic lyrics and a floaty guitar riff that gives an indie sound mixed with a classic r&b feel. From the opening notes of the track, it's clear that Junovxrse is not holding anything back. The song's production is crisp and clean, with driving rhythms that propel the listener toward every point she makes through her lyrics. Junovxrse's vocals are confident and powerful, with a hint of sass that adds to the song's overall attitude. Musically "I'm Blue Fuck You" is a perfect complement to Junovxrse's soulful and powerful vocals, with a gritty and edgy sound that captures the raw emotion of the message and does not shy away from addressing the harsh realities of going through the moods. Overall, "I'm Blue Fuck You" is an honest and bold reflection of Junovxrse's journey as an independent artist and a powerful anthem for anyone who has ever faced adversity and risen above it. Junovxrse's unique sound and raw talent make her one to watch in the indie music scene, and "I'm Blue Fuck You" is a powerful testament to her artistry and resilience. Welcome to BuzzMusic Junovxrse! Kudos to getting through the blues on "I'm Blue Fuck You," which has such a unique sound and attitude. Can you talk about the influences and inspirations behind the song and how they shaped your approach to creating it? So my producer and business partner Majii sent me this as a reference track about 6 months ago. He’s been in LA, and I’ve been in AZ, so we have been on opposite sides of the spectrum, and he came down to work on the song, which happened to be the same weekend as valentines day. One of my last major drops was 9-5, and I wanted to transition from the oh, you’ve been on my mind to something a little different. This song is definitely for girls who feel blue or are experiencing heartbreak. I'm used to writing about love lost and love being given, so this track just felt right. Your music often deals with themes of self-expression and empowerment. How do you hope your music can inspire and connect with listeners, particularly those who may be going through similar struggles? I hope my music can inspire everyone of all ages to be authentic and themselves. When making music, I don’t try to mimic anyone else’s sound; I try to find my own voice through my experiences. Without them, we cannot create or become the artist we want. So I want people to hear my diary. Instead of being written down, all my thoughts are in this 1-2 minute ballad about how crazy my life is and how I'm going through regular everyday struggles like anyone else. I think that's something all ages and people can connect to. "I'm Blue Fuck You" incorporates elements of soul and indie genres. Can you discuss your creative process for blending different styles and how you use music to express your unique voice and identity? Oh wow, so my creative process is straightforward sometimes. I can hear a beat and start writing. I go for the smooth jazzy type of vibes. I love anything with a guitar melody or riff, and I think anyone who knows me as an artist can contest that. I also love very moody and climatic r and b. The closest inspirations would be Jhene, SZA, say grace, Alicia creates, and Nina Simone. Your grandmother was a significant influence and supporter in your life and music career, and her passing inspired you to write and create music. How has her memory and legacy impacted your music, and how do you honour her in your work? My grandma wanted me to pursue music. This is one of her last wishes. I think she always knew that music made me happy, and it brought out a different side of me that got me out of my depression as a kid and took me away from the trauma or things going on around me at the time. She’s one of the biggest reasons I can go out of my comfort zone, take chances with myself, and bet on myself as a musician. She’s always with me at every performance and in everything I do. So I thank God an angel is genuinely paving the way and guiding me in the right direction. In addition to creating music, do you have any other creative pursuits or collaborations in the works that you're excited about? Yes, I am currently building a music media company from the ground up called Karisma Collective. My platform allows many young upcoming artists and creators to showcase themselves musically and creatively. Karisma Collective aims to become the go-to platform for music enthusiasts to discover, explore and enjoy music from various genres, cultures, and eras. Our platform will provide a comprehensive and engaging music experience through curated playlists, original content, live events, and interactive features. Instagram Twitter

His latest release, "take it slow," is the second track in a long stretch of stories that will be told throughout the rest of the year, all trying to find what it sounds like to grow up. "take it slow" is a multifaceted track that reflects on the struggles of real life and how hard it is not to be a kid anymore. The lyrics are youthful and playful, but they also capitalize on the difficulties of navigating relationships and figuring out how to make them work. toast's unique style captures the essence of being young while simultaneously hinting at the challenges of maturing and dealing with adult responsibilities. "take it slow" lyrics are poetic and evoke longing and nostalgia. The opening verse, "just counting sheep while you still dream, to be close to me, but I'm begging please," is particularly striking. It sets the tone for the rest of the song, reflecting on a relationship that may have ended too soon. The chorus of "Take It Slow" is catchy and upbeat, with toast's signature youthful sound taking center stage. The lyrics, "tryna figure you out has me going nuts wanna ask if you feel the same or not," are a testament to toast's ability to create catchy, yet meaningful, wordplay throughout the song. toast's use of sound is undoubtedly impressive as well. He incorporates electronic beats and synths, adding complexity and summery magic to the track. The sound perfectly complements the lyrics, creating an immersive experience for the listener. "take it slow" is an excellent addition to toast's repertoire. It is a thoughtful and introspective track showcasing his unique style and ability to create lively and meaningful music. The song reflects on growing up and dealing with the complexities of life while also capturing the essence of what it means to be young. toast is an artist to watch in the alt-pop scene, and "take it slow" is a testament to his skill as a songwriter and musician. Get lifted with this one out on all platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic toast, and congratulations to your new coming-of-age single, “take it slow,” which seems to capture the essence of youth and the complexities of growing up. Can you discuss your inspiration behind the song and how you created such a multifaceted track? Thank you! "take it slow" was inspired by a mature mindset of looking at relationships in your late 20s. I’m not a teenager anymore, and I don’t feel honest writing about sneaking a girlfriend out or jumping straight into something serious. So combining the message of enjoying things for what they are with a sonically inspired track that sounds like I was back in 2010 was just an ironic decision on my part. Your music has been described as pure nostalgia and art. How does "take it slow" fit into this description, and what message do you hope to convey to your listeners through this song? This track is what I would expect to hear in Veronica Mars or the intro of a Disney Channel show. I’ve always wanted to make something my inner thirteen-year-old would love. I hope people can listen and know that they have so much time in their lives and it’s ok to enjoy things for what they are in the moment. I remember feeling like my world was over just because a girl wouldn’t text me back in 10th grade. And you have every right to feel like that as a fifteen-year-old, but I think it’s good to know that taking things slowly and enjoying them can draw out something beautiful you might not have seen before. "take it slow" has a catchy and upbeat sound that captures the essence of youth. How do you approach incorporating electronic beats and synths into your music, and what role do they play in this particular track? I incorporated many more electronic instruments and video game samples in my past projects to convey a playful sound. With these new songs, I’ve slowly gravitated away from that and just used live instruments to give a more raw and mature feel. I still wanted that youthful joy in there, so I pulled inspiration from my favourite bands as a teenager and used nostalgia as my guide to help with that. But concerning this track in particular, there is very little, or possibly none, if I remember correctly. "take it slow" lyrics are poetic and evoke longing and nostalgia. Can you talk about your songwriting process and how you created the lyrics for this particular track? Like some of my songs, I wrote this fictional narrative about someone in their late 20s/early 30s looking for a relationship that isn’t built off of the drama, rumours, or certain behaviours you would find in most teenage relationships. I’ve found that these are the people I am surrounded with the most today as I’m growing up with them, so much of it was inspired by their stories. Your debut album, 'Marcus, why's your name toast??,' was well-received by fans and critics alike. How does "take it slow" fit into the overall story that you are trying to tell through your music, and what can fans expect from your upcoming releases? Every song coming out this year, including "take it slow," is all part of the same story of toast, acting as a large sequel to the album in terms of growing up. These songs touch on topics like learning to accept adulthood and how to curate your relationships. The album was a secret dream world you could use to escape to feel like you’re in your high school cafeteria again. But these new songs are the wake-up calls and the real life that awaits you when you’re done dreaming in “Marcus, why’s your name toast??” that you must face. For future releases, you can expect more raw-sounding tracks that I have taken my time on and some of the most honest lyrics I’ve ever written, all leading up to the second full-length album later this year. Co-written and co-produced with Matias Mora, who has worked with the likes of Katy Perry and Cyn, the song is a beautiful blend of Anna's unique style and Mora's expertise. Duboc’s music has found its way into the hearts of her fans with its poignant singing and songwriting style, born from a love of music that has run through her veins from a young age. Her journey as an artist began with her involvement in musicals, where her appreciation for the emotional connection that music brings was nurtured. Her mother’s love for harmonious melodies also cemented her musical gene, which has led her down a path of success and triumph as a solo artist. Duboc is heavily inspired by the elusive sounds and lyrical connections artists such as Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Lizzie McAlpine, and Conan Gray bring forth in their music. She takes these characteristics and brings a unique touch to her music by instilling a personal sense of emotion into each song, aiming to connect with her fans. "Mystery Lady" opens with an eerie and mysterious melody that sets the mood for the rest of the song. Anna's vocals come in, drawing the listener in with her alluring delivery, before transitioning into the upbeat chorus, where Anna showcases her range with ease. The lyrics tell the story of a woman who is capable of anything if pushed far enough; whoever dares to find out might regret it is the name of the game with this one. Anna's penmanship shines through in the song's verses. She uses vivid imagery and metaphorical lyrics to convey the feelings of uncertainty, like a black widow creeping up on her unknowing prey. The chorus is catchy and bright, contrasting with the spooky backdrop of the music. The "Mystery Lady,” her voice and the beat her vocals sail over are a force to be reckoned with; Anna undoubtedly drives that point home. "Mystery Lady" production is top-notch, with Anna’s concept and Matias Mora's expert programming and production bringing the track to life. We can't wait to see what the future holds for this rising star. We dare you to listen to "Mystery Lady" right now. Available on all platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Anna Duboc! congrats on letting the mystery out with your latest release, "Mystery Lady." What inspired the lyrics of "Mystery Lady?" Can you tell us a bit about the story behind the song? I have had this title for a while, and when we developed the track, it seemed fitting. The song is about the darker side of someone you rarely see, only when you betray/hurt them. In "Mystery Lady," you co-wrote and co-produced with Matias Mora. Can you describe your collaboration process with him and how you combined your unique styles to create the song? Matias and I work well together. It is just easy and creative. I had an idea of a vibe, and we wrote the music together in the studio. I came up with the chorus and melody, then worked on the story for the verses. They had a good-sounding track in about 4-5 hours, and we recorded the lead vocal. I finished all of the backgrounds and harmonies in my home studio. Can you share any details about any upcoming projects or collaborations in the works? How do you think these new ventures will challenge and inspire you as an artist? I will release four tracks throughout the spring and summer of 2023 that I co-produced and co-wrote. As a writer, I’m always learning more about using metaphors and writing lyrics that concisely convey feelings. So, I look forward to seeing how people respond. I will also perform a few songs for Writers Block at the Hollywood Cafe on March 14, which should be fun. "Mystery Lady" showcases your talent as both a co-writer and co-producer. Can you speak to the importance of having creative control in your music? I am very blessed to be able to record things I like. There have been times when I have been given opportunities to sing other people’s music and be a part of someone else's vision, and even though it was a hard decision, I said no. Looking back, I am glad I held my ground because I can develop my style and sound and be true to who I am. What do you hope to achieve in the next year or two with your music career? Do you have any specific goals or milestones that you are aiming for? I want to write more songs and develop my sound. I hope I can put out music people like and, hopefully, lyrics that help them get through whatever they are going through. This summer, I will be doing some shows, and eventually, it would be nice to open for someone like Lizzy McAlpine, Harry Styles, Taylor Swift etc. I am not in a hurry, though. I have many things I want to explore and want to keep my options open. TikTok Instagram
