We really enjoyed listening to your new single “Heart Breaker”. What’s the theme behind this song? The theme behind this song is definitely a heartbreak. Nothing crazy but it’s the usual teenage girl heartache that we all go through. I wrote this song myself and I’m really proud of it. The lyrics, the melody, the way it turned out and especially people’s reactions to it. Hearing people say they love my music keeps me happy and my heart warm. • Joanna Gabrielle Debuts "One Day..." and the Result Is Electrifying

Sixteen-year-old Joanna Gabrielle was given the chance of a lifetime in 2019 when producer Shannon McArthur approached her via social media to give her the chance to record her first-ever EP. Originally from Virginia, Joanna traveled to Nashville, TN, to share her songwriting with the world. Joanna has been involved with music her whole life, and over this past year has been able to release her first two songs, “Maybe” and “Time and Again”, followed by the rest of her EP. Joanna Gabrielle’s new release, “One Day...”, presents her smooth, soft vocal tones with simple and delicate acoustics. The guitar notes have a serene feeling to them and get louder as the song progresses, all without becoming overpowering. She has impressive control over her voice and migrates between notes effortlessly. The lyrics of “One Day...” stress the importance of appreciating what you have every day because you never know what tomorrow will bring. Joanna sings “what if forever meant we never have to say goodbye”, perfectly capturing the emotion of the song. This is only the beginning of Joanna Gabrielle’s musical journey, and she plans to continue developing her skills as an artist and songwriter. Check out “One Day...” by Joanna Gabrielle here. Hey Joanna! Welcome to BuzzMusic, and congratulations on your first EP! We really enjoyed your single “One Day...”, what is your favorite aspect of the song? Thank you so much, and thank you for having me again! I’m glad to hear you enjoyed “One Day...”! My favorite aspect of this song was probably the writing process. I don’t think I’ve ever written a song as quickly as I wrote this one. No really, it probably took me about fifteen or twenty minutes to write all the lyrics! I also really love the meaning behind these lyrics and the overall message it conveys. But what’s really special about this song is that it was the first song I recorded when I flew down to Nashville to record my EP. These are also some of my favorite lyrics I’ve ever written. You mentioned you have been singing since you were young, and it shows! Were you involved in any musical training as a child, or are you self-taught? Aw, thank you! I loved doing musical theater throughout my childhood and still do it whenever I can, but I started receiving formal vocal training when I was twelve. I studied classical and musical theater training but I’ve always had a deep appreciation for more pop/contemporary music. How did you decide what single to release as your first single? Does that song have sentimental meaning for you? Before I decided which song to release first, I actually played a couple of my songs for a few of my close friends to hear what they had to think as well as which songs they were more receptive to. Most everyone agreed that my song, ‘Maybe’, was their favorite and that was the first song I released. Each of my songs has special meanings for different reasons, but ‘Maybe’ will always be a little more special because it was the first song I ever released. Who is one artist that you admire? What is it about them that inspires you? It’s so hard to pick just one so I’m gonna have to name off a few. Stylistically and vocally, I’d have to say Ariana Grande, but writing-wise, I’m partial to Halsey and Lewis Capaldi. It’s so hard to find lyrics that have a genuine authenticity to them, but I’ve found that they consistently hit that category every time. I love it when a song’s lyrics can perfectly capture a specific emotion or scenario in a way that keeps me coming back to listen to it over and over again. Often times I try to listen back to those songs and try to emulate those techniques back into my own writing. What can we expect to see from you throughout 2020? I’d love to record some new music or possibly a new EP! One of the best parts about being an independent artist is the freedom to experiment and change my style. There are so many new styles I’d love to work with and incorporate into my own sound. I’d also like to continue defining my style and redefining my sound to reflect on how I feel I’ve grown as an artist. More than anything, I just want to keep growing and making new choices. instagram.com/joannaagabrielle facebook.com/joanna.gabrielle.549 #BuzzMusic

  • The Velvet Cab Provides a Much-Needed Dose of Vitamin D With Their New Song "Sunshine"

The Georgian born 4-piece band The Velvet Cab has found a way to combine the frolicking rock of yesteryear with the modern radio hits of today. The result is brilliant. Their new song, "Sunshine" tells an uplifting story of how to create joy during times of sadness. The band’s lead vocalists, Scott Declue and Luke Martz combine rock and pop styles to achieve a memorable melody. The vocals, paired with stunning guitar riffs and down to earth drum beats, strike just the right balance. Since its formation in 2018, the band has been experimenting successfully with an approach to their sound. Scott Declue’s vocals compare well to the frontmen of rock bands from the ’60s and ’70s. Luke’s vocals lean more towards the pop hits of today. With the release of "Sunshine", we believe that this band has found their sound. This song’s message, ‘to create your own happiness’, is just as important as the song’s sonic details. This positive emotional affirmation is not often focussed on the music of today and needs to be represented far more in mainstream music. On all fronts, "Sunshine" by The Velvet Cab is a pleasure to listen to. Listen to "Sunshine" here. Hey Velvet Cab, welcome to Buzz Music and thank you for being here! Your new song Sunshine is sensational and has a great message. When writing music, What is your process? Thanks for the opportunity! It’s been a thrill to share our music with people all over the globe this past year. "Sunshine" is our biggest tune to date, but it isn’t as new as some may think. We released the track back in March of 2019 and enjoyed a fair amount of local listens, but it wasn't until it was picked up by a few indie playlists that the song really began to take off. When we write songs like ‘Sunshine,’ we often aren’t starting with a completely blank canvas. Luke, our bassist and main vocalist on the track, had a structure in mind when he brought this project to the other members. We often bring our own melodies or lyrics into a rehearsal session and then workshop the idea as a group. For ‘Sunshine,’ we took Luke’s general idea and each added our own personal touches to it. When making great music, there has to be a symbiosis to the writers and composers. Tell me, How would you describe the relationships you guys have built within the band? The notion that we’ve built this cohesive, tight-knit group in only a year sounds impressive, and from a composition, perspective is true in many ways. However, all of the members have been somewhat connected either directly or indirectly for years. The beginnings of what would ultimately become “The Velvet Cab” started in 2016-17 when Jacob (lead guitar) and Trevor (drummer) met as co-workers and began jamming on the weekends regularly. Jacob later recruited his high school friend Luke and his older brother Scottie (rhythm guitar and vocals) in hopes of making us seem more legitimate to bar and venue owners around town. So despite being a “new” band, the groundwork for our musical chemistry was set long before we formally took the stage as “The Velvet Cab.” We play well together because we get along together in real life. Sunshine has an incredible message, ‘to create your own happiness’. I’d like to know what state of mind you all were in when writing this song? This song is the perfect companion to a summer drive or day at the beach. Luke wrote the lyrics to ‘Sunshine’ as a self-reflective piece, but its message is universal. This track is all about remaining positive through difficult moments—making your own sunshine on a cloudy day. The mellow groove of the verse combined with the heavier guitars and belting vocals in the chorus made this song a crowd favorite well before we even went into the studio to record it. The sound that you all have developed is one that I can hear saturating the radio waves. What plans do you have to grow your band in the future? While we wait for Dave Grohl to return our e-mail requests to become the official fifth member, we’ve been in the studio creating more music and scheduling more shows. We want to know where you’re listening. Send us a message on Instagram or Facebook @thevelvetcab and let us know where you want to see us play. What can we expect to see from The Velvet Cab throughout 2020? We’ve partnered with Amazon Merch to launch our first t-shirt designs. We wanted an easy and convenient way for supporters all over the world to find and buy our gear. Available for PRIME shipping in many areas. ‘Optimistic’ — Our new single drops March 6th wherever you stream or buy music. instagram.com/thevelvetcab facebook.com/thevelvetcab #BuzzMusic

  • Romance Sparkles Beneath the Night Sky in Pattie Lin's "Star Sign"

A physical therapist by day and a dreamy singer by night, Pattie Lin is a new artist who impresses. In her new song, "Star Sign", co-written and produced by Austin Love, Pattie explores the complications present at the birth of a new romantic relationship. Her sweet lyrics overlay beautifully with the layering of ethereal sounds and a moving baseline. The result is an upbeat and well-done production expressing love and lust. The singer's music is not always so positive; in fact, her writing is often a retelling of her own experiences within the healthcare system. Music has not always been Pattie’s priority, in fact, Pattie often describes herself as a stereotypical ‘good’ Asian girl, as she focused on education and career before committing to music. Now living in Los Angeles, Pattie has settled into a life of comfort and creativity. She examines her passions in both music and medicine and related topics such as health, relationships, as well as her own identity as an Asian American woman. The production surrounding her lyrics are poignant and smoothly delivered; they provide the perfect soundscape to emphasize honesty and trust. In an exclusive interview, Pattie sits down with us to discuss her relationship with music and future plans. Check it out below. Hey Pattie, welcome back to BuzzMusic and thank you for being here. Your story really intrigues us and want to know, How do you balance your songwriting amongst your career in healthcare? There’s definitely a push and pull between the two parts of my life. I’m always writing, jotting things down, making voice memos and all that but when it comes to finishing a project, time is essential. I find that freelance life works for me so that I can go through phases that are heavier in music, followed by a period with more patient care so that I can refresh my mind and take a break. "Star Sign' is a great song in all regards, the production is top-notch and the lyrics tell a story that we all can relate to. I’m curious, Did you write ‘Star Sign’ about a personal experience? "Star Sign" is actually about Austin’s love life! (Mine is not so exciting.) We were catching up in the studio after maybe a month of individually busy schedules. We met with the intention of starting a new song, and as he filled me in on his roller coaster of a month, I started writing it. You often write music about your experiences as an Asian American woman and health care professional. What roles have your race and career played in the life that you’ve lived thus far? My grandparents lived with us growing up, which had a huge impact on the cultural values and world view that shaped my life. I often felt torn between two cultures and had trouble expressing myself. Music is my outlet for all the things I’ve left unsaid. As for health care, I learn a lot through my patients’ experiences which I think gives me a better perspective of what’s really important and what’s not. There’s also a constant stream of ethical dilemmas and I’ve used songwriting to vent about that as well! "Star Sign" is co-written and produced by Austin Love. In the future, do you have any plans to collaborate with other artists? Yes! I love meeting other artists and creating songs I otherwise wouldn’t write with them. I’ve got a few different projects in the works at the moment. What can we expect to see from Pattie Lin throughout 2020? More music and more collaborations across creative disciplines! I’m trying to branch out more this year, to push myself and grow. instagram.com/patt5e pattielin.com facebook.com/patt5e #BuzzMusic

  • Austin Riddle Can’t Help But Adore You in His New Song "Want It"

Austin Riddle’s new single, "Want It" is the definition of smooth. As a classically trained Jazz pianist, this singer/songwriter knows how to create a stunning melody. Using the bounce of a funkified bass line to keep the song groovin’ and adding the embellishments of a piano, Austin describes the experience of wanting someone, and the need to have his affection returned. These feelings of romance mixed with lust are not abrasive. They are tasteful and gently delivered. In fact, the song is crafted with a careful balance that allows the vocals to stand out from the dynamic background beat. Austin has succeeded in creating a sound that is both classic and modern. The bass line is a throwback to the days of Bootsy Collins and P-funk, while his vocal style is as modern as Drake. In order to hone his style, Austin has collaborated with various R&B & Hip-Hop artists such as Luther Lizama and D-Bibbs. As an artist, Austin uses music as therapy. By sharing his experience, he hopes to reach others who may be going through similar frustrations. Over the years, Austin has developed his songwriting, production, and vocal skills to create the music he loves. He continues to grow while staying true to his classical roots. We look forward to seeing what he does next! Listen to "Want It" here. Hey Austin, welcome back to BuzzMusic! Thank you for being here to answer some questions. So let’s get started. How did you get into learning Jazz and Classical piano? My dad actually started teaching me piano when I was little. I actually took my first youth piano class at the University of Alabama when I was 5 years of age. I then took my talents to the Alabama School of Fine Arts when I was 11. It was there that I grew in my piano skills even taking on Jazz at around 14 or 15. You’ve been incredibly dedicated to developing your sound and growing as an artist. When did you make the decision to pursue your own music dreams? I was about 13 or 14 when my dad actually got recording equipment for his home studio. When he wasn’t in there I would go in and make beats and sing over them. It was about that time when I discovered I really wanted to do music for a living. It’s what I love to do more than anything, so I’ve always really known music was what I wanted to make a career in. I’ve always been taught that It’s always good when you figure out how to make a living doing what you love, so that’s my goal and I’m loving the process. Your music does an amazing job of combining the classic with the modern. Do you have any artists who you would say, ‘influences your sound’? I would say, Brandy, Usher, Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, and Frank Ocean are my commercial music inspirations. Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Art Tatum, and Cory Henry are my jazz GOATs. And I have to say my “Mount Rushmore” of pianists and composers are Franz Liszt, Chopin, Debussy, and of course Beethoven. You have been very consistent with releasing music and collaborating with other artists. What has been the driving force behind your dedication to your music? Honestly, I have a number of things driving me to stay dedicated. Number one is my faith and belief that my purpose is to reach and connect people through music, my favorite of God’s creations. I’m also a strong believer in the fact that we only have one life on this planet and I’m just the type of person that wants to take advantage of every opportunity. My biggest fear is growing old and wishing I had “done more” with my life. I’m truly happy doing what I do and find so much joy in bringing people together through music. As long as I keep that going I feel unstoppable. I know that I’ll never have to worry about regret because I’m doing what truly fulfills my purpose. Who knows, maybe I’ll pick something else up to strive to be great at. Either way, the journey of striving for greatness is so fulfilling. Even more gratifying than that, is being able to walk through my purpose and impact people in a positive way. What can we expect to see from Austin Riddle throughout 2020? Of course, expect more music in 2020, but I honestly feel like a lot of growth is taking place. Even when I look back on my first single that dropped a year ago, I’ve come a long way and grown so much. I’m so excited about this my first project to drop on February 28th. It really encompasses my growth over the past year. A lot of self-reflecting and production quality has gone into this mixtape and I have butterflies waiting for it to be listened to throughout the world. instagram.com/austinriddleoff tiktok.com/austinriddleoff twitter.com/austinriddleoff #BuzzMusic

  • Malachi Henry and the Lights Inspirits Listeners With New Single, "Upon The Shoals"

A beautiful mix of early gospel and soul, with modern synth and electronic samples, is an experience that can only be created by Malachi Henry and the Lights. This San Diego-based band was founded by singer-songwriter, Ben Hernandez after he realized that his love and passion for music needed to be fed. With new songs, a new perspective and bandmates who longed for change and a push out of their comfort zone, Malachi Henry and the Lights were born. When you listen to their single, “Upon The Shoals”, a scene from a movie starts to play in your head. You’re driving down a stretch of the highway, looking out at the beautiful scenery of the countryside. The lyrics talk about the struggles you encounter throughout life and confronting these challenges in order to grow. This is the kind of song that is able to take you on a true self-love journey. The track starts out with smooth vocals and a soft percussion beat. As the song goes on and starts to build, you can really hear the different sonic influences start to come in and blend together. The guitar comes in with a groovy riff that is a very southern soul sound. By the chorus, a more steady rock beat in the drums is carrying through the track. The piano is then introduced and gives in that gospel feel. The sounds of Malachi Henry and the Lights inspire self-reflection and “Upon The Shoals” is an incredible single that will inspirit its listeners. Listen to “Upon The Shoals” here. Where did the name “Malachi Henry and the Lights” come from? The name is a combination of a few things. Several years ago, my wife and I volunteered overnight at a transitional shelter for homeless women and their children and we met a little boy named Malachi. His innocence in the midst of his situation and his joyful personality left a very powerful mark on me. I don't know what became of them, but part of the bane name is a tribute to them. "Henry" comes from the folk tale about John Henry, The Steel Driving Man.  I was fascinated by this story when I was a kid, reading it over and over in one of those Golden Books.  "The Lights" is taken from an old gospel group from Baltimore called "The Holy Lights". I joke about it once in a while, especially when I tell people the name of our band, that it's impossible to say, spell, or remember! Why couldn't I have come up with a one-word name?! Hahaha! But that's what was put together and I'm proud knowing that the name wasn't just randomly chosen. The way you’re able to mix gospel and soul with more modern electronic sounds is really unique. Can you explain more about your writing process and how it’s changed since you started musically professionally again? When I first started out years ago, I was playing more country blues and Americana, and writing within those styles and genre. The lyrics were simpler, the content was a bit more superficial, but I always held on to a little collection of other songs that were a bit more "progressive" both in their arrangement and lyrically.  In 2009, my wife and I moved to North Carolina and I had to give up playing full-time, so I just practiced writing...and listened...to everything. Up until that time I had mostly been listening to traditional country blues, soul, and gospel music. So, when I finally stopped playing and began to dig into writing, I checked out so many artists that probably everyone else had been listening to for years, but whose music was completely new to me. I will always keep coming back to the well of traditional American music, but in some ways, it felt like I had just emerged from hibernation and hadn't seen the sun in awhile.  I was just consuming it all, even stuff I didn't especially like. I would just take it in with an open mind, gleaning anything I could from the recordings. I used to work as a traveling salesman of sorts, so I had a lot of time in the car, driving throughout the South, and East Coast, listening to new bands or recording lyrics and singing into my phone. Our new single reflects some of those times; being away from home, just staring through headlights or standing at the bank of a frozen river, skipping a stone across the ice. It takes me a long time to put a song together, but I usually start with the words. I love the lyrics. I love the sound and rhythm of lyrics and how they feel rolling out of my mouth. I collect words and phrases all the time in hopes that I'll be able to use them in a song. I think I'm more observant than I used to be and seem to take notice of an interesting word or phrase more quickly.  In the beginning, my writing was so rigid. I would get frustrated when lines didn't have a connection to each other or that they didn't compliment the "story".  I let go of the idea of them staying true to the theme and gave myself permission to phrase lyrics that just sounded cool to me, regardless of whether they "made sense" in the context of the song.  I'll take all of those little lyrical pieces I've gathered and slowly stitch them together, singing them over and over again to see how they flow vocally. If certain lines seem cumbersome or awkward, then I trim them or find a better word to smooth things out.  Sometimes, though, I have to sacrifice a really cool word; but in my process, cerebral lyrics are worthless if they don't sing right. Eventually, I take it to the band and at that point, it's a very collaborative effort.  Because my background is in roots music those elements will always be present in our songs, and we're constantly balancing the relationship between the traditional, raw sounds, and modern rock.  We'll sample organic sounds recorded from an iPhone, like birds or cicadas or trigger synth effects and combine them with a lo-fi guitar tone.  As a band, we really look forward to the challenge of setting ourselves apart from each show by using these unconventional elements in our music. Speaking of restarting, what was it in your life that made you decide to move back to California? You said you had come to a turn row, can you speak more on what lead you to that? I really liked living in North Carolina, but Charlotte, NC is not well known for its arts and music culture.  It's known for banking.  I just couldn't find enough of the right musicians and more so, the venues to be able to keep my career going the way I wanted to.  So, I eventually just stopped.  I didn't really notice for the first few years, but slowly I became pretty miserable not playing music anymore.  My wife could see it on my face every day.  I would drive to my job and on the way, I could feel this anxiety clawing at my back. I didn't sleep well. I'd be staring off into the distance when people would talk to me. I used to mumble lyrics to myself.  It sounds cliche', but the music was calling me back to it.  All I had was this little collection of songs and only two or three guys in town who really hung in there with me, doing their best to help launch the band. But, it wasn't enough, and the songs went back into the dark. One day, my friend Rick Holmstrom, who is Mavis Staples' bandleader, had come to town on tour with Mavis. I took him out to breakfast and asked him if he'd put a band together to help me record these songs once and for all. It took about a year, but finally, Mavis had a short break in her schedule and we got to work. I launched a Kickstarter campaign, raised all the money (I'm forever grateful to those folks), and recorded the first album with Mavis's band, Rick, Jeff Turmes, and Stephen Hodges. That was the "turn row" moment. As soon as we were done, I knew I needed to do more. I wasn't satisfied with it just being a souvenir album. I missed California and I knew I could find the musicians that would fit well into the whole dynamic of what I wanted in a band going forward. Ben, you toured as a backup singer for Mavis Staples, that must have been an incredible experience! What was it like to tour with someone who is so spirited and inspiring? How did touring with her impact your music? Aw, man! Touring with Mavis Staples was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I'll carry with me forever. I'm extremely grateful that I was even considered and that she and the rest of the team were confident enough in my abilities to take me along for the summer. Mavis and The Staple Singers have shaped my music more than any other artist. You'll find traces of their influence weaving throughout our songs, the way I write, and the way I sing. All roads seem to lead back to them. To not only share a stage with her but to also sit next to her in the airport and ask her about her favorite gospel groups when she was coming up, was more than my little brain could handle.  On stage, she would glance over at me with a smile or slap me on the back when I sang something she liked.  Mavis is a true legend.  She's walked with Martin Luther King, been put in jail, put up hits on the Billboard charts, and influenced countless artists, so when Mavis Staples places her hand on your shoulder because she likes your singing, it feels like you've been knighted.  Even at 80 years old, she shows no signs of stopping. Touring with her really changed how I approached my own singing and just my presence as a bandleader.  And it wasn't just Mavis. I learned so many invaluable techniques by standing next to the other backup singer, Saundra Williams. Saundra is probably best known for her years singing with Sharon Jones.  I had never been a backup singer before and although I've always loved background vocals in songs, Saundra really showed me the art of it all. Up until that point, I had only been a lead singer and felt I had to belt out notes the way I've always done when fronting a band. She taught me that it was more than just singing the ooh's and ahhs.  It was about how the voices blended in the right ways to support the lead singer. How sometimes a softer and more nuanced note can add more dynamic texture to the song then one sung with power. Working with all of them altered the trajectory of our band in more ways than they could ever know. What can we expect to see from Malachi Henry and the Lights throughout 2020? We just released a new single with an EP coming in a few months. We'll continue building our name and earning our fans in our hometown (San Diego) and beyond with hopefully more shows in Los Angeles and San Francisco this year. We're grateful for this interview. It's this kind of support that will eventually get our message farther so that new fans will not only hear our name but maybe even remember it too! Thanks so much! instagram.com/malachihenryandthelights facebook.com/malachihenryandthelights #BuzzMusic

  • Indulge Into "Put the Thriller Down" By Fury In Few

Welcome to BuzzMusic Fury In Few! How did the formation of this duo occur and how did you manage to fuse together the different styles and personalities? Brayden: We met at an intramural softball league. It was the bottom of the 9th and I was up to bat. I get a sweet pitch right down the middle and swing...BOOM. I hit a dinger into the left field. The crowd went wild. I get the girl. Ryan was in the crowd that day. Impressed by my swing he asked me if I played music and we’ve been in a band ever since. Our personalities mesh very well through our love for different French pastries. Ryan: Brayden loves playing and listening to rock music and I love the energy of live rock performances so here we are. Talk to us about your new single “Put The Thriller Down”. What were your intentions with this song? What do you hope your listeners will take away from it? Brayden: I wanted it to be used in a porno. Fingers crossed! I hope the people that dig the song get as turned on as I do. Ryan: This is the rock song the world needs and we’re not trying to reinvent the wheel. Just two guys in a room trying to make the music that they like, and hopefully, other people will too. What does "Put The Thriller Down" mean to you? Brayden: F*** what people think. Be who you want and do what you want. Ryan: It means we’re not f****** around. As a duo, do you find it to be more challenging for you to arrange your music considering the amount of instrumentation that goes in? Brayden: No. Ryan: No. For someone just starting out and hoping to create music similar to your style, what advice would you give them? Brayden: If you make it big before we do bring us on tour. Ryan: Find like-minded individuals and play until your hands bleed. What can we expect to see from Fury In Few throughout 2020? Brayden: The greatest rock n roll show you’ll ever see. • Keith Cullen Wants You To Be Proud Of Who You Are, Showcases Latest Release "Fire and Fever"

February 16, 2020 We can still feel the heat from Keith Cullen's latest release "Fire and Fever". This track brings us soft, clean guitars over Cullen's deep, raw lyrics. This is a song that can be related to in many ways, however, there is a deeper meaning for him. Keith Cullen is a gay man who grew up in Ireland, a conservative country where he was often forced to hide who he truly was. Despite running a successful company, he felt run down. He walked away from it to pursue a career in music. "Being a singer-songwriter is like public journaling," says Cullen, "through the years of undoing locked-up layers of unhealthy, automated mental programs, I found myself." During this time, he was diagnosed with stage 3 bladder cancer and sought immediate surgery and treatment. This was at the height of his album charting in the Billboards, and he had to put everything on hold to face everything head-on. This included his working and health patterns, as well as his sexuality. In January, Cullen released a video for "Fire and Fever." It shows him alone, isolated and raw. One could say he made himself vulnerable and exposed to the world he is proud of who he is to show others who struggle to freely express their identity out of fear of what could come next. "Facing reality with self-kindness is the only real way to live; it's certainly how I've learned to survive and love myself and others." He hopes to share his story with others facing their own reality. Keith Cullen teamed up with Cleveland artist Mooke Da God to remix the track for the accompanying video. Of collaborating with him, Cullen says they share a mutual experience, "being gay in a society where it is unacceptable to be who you truly are" "Fire and Fever" is available now, we truly wish Keith Cullen the very best in his journey of continual growth and passion to help others! Listen to "Fire and Fever" here. This single shows a vulnerable and raw display of you for everyone to see. What has it been like to watch this single become what it is today? To see growth in one's self I think is one of the most beautiful yet challenging things we face as human beings! I think being honest and raw as a songwriter/Creator takes courage and that's what I feel 2020 is about for everyone. really stepping into who they truly are. Your video features you with simple yet powerful effects as if the audience is seeing you completely exposed, displaying yourself for all to see. When did you begin to plan out this video, what was most important for the video to translate to viewers? I got to work with 2 amazing people on this shoot, Santiago Valencia who directed and Antonio Barbosa who produced it so planning it out was made easy as they were so awesome to work with. It was my first time taking a role as a creative director and because of that I really wanted to be myself and find that vulnerability on screen. We worked for 16 hours to get the shots where you get to feel the emotion. How have you found the reception to your music among Irish fans, particularly hometown fans who may have never known that you would be as musically gifted as you are? I am actually returning to Ireland for the first time properly in 5 years this spring to show them some love and plan some long overdue shows. while I am there I always feel called to write new material so I really looking forward to that. You mentioned that you'd love the opportunity to work with those who struggle like you. What is your message to those who struggle with identity? Take steps every day as hard as it may be to show yourself the kindness and love that you deserve! If I had of accepted myself the way others did it would have been a much smoother path for me mentally. instagram.com/keithcullen facebook.com/keithcullenmusic twitter.com/keithcullen #BuzzMusic

  • A Look Inside DKupe’s Songwriting and New Song “High Low”

By: Julia K. - February 16, 2020 24-year-old DKupe moved to Los Angeles in 2019 to pursue music both as a solo artist/songwriter and as a guitarist in bands such as “The Breakfluid Band” and “Alice King Band”. He has been able to collaborate with other LA musicians in similar genres, and expand his potential. He aspires to document his journey through life as a young man in search of purpose and love, all without taking himself too seriously. “High Low” by DKupe embodies his ideal sound. as well as his goal to reach the hearts and minds of listeners. The song’s groovy beat and soulful lyrics blend into a combination of R&B, funk, neo-soul, and Indie rock. Much of this track is spoken, allowing emphasis on the lyrics and less on background guitar/drums. DKupe’s smooth and composed voice is most evident in the chorus, where it is fluid, repetitive, and catchy. Electronic voice effects have been added to the chorus. This highlights the dynamic and agreeable vibe. An interesting contradiction occurs here when DKupe sings in ascending intervals, despite the lyrics. Also highlighted in the song are DKupe’s impressive guitar skills, with a guitar solo in place of the bridge of the song. Listen to "High Low" here. Welcome to BuzzMusic, DKupe! Thank you for sharing “High Low” with us. How would you say that this song encompasses your message to the world? Thank you for your time! “High Low” encompasses my message to the world as it’s basically about believing in yourself and having a deep conviction in pursuing what you want, while also keeping yourself in check as you realize that you have to pay your respects to your own process as it unfolds. It’s walking the line between being confident in your abilities and potential, and also being humble and understanding of where you’re at in the grand scheme of things at all times. It’s like throwing your ego a bone for encouragement but keeping it on a tight leash! The idea is that if you have a goal or a mission that you’re really committed to, you’ll go through some real highs and lows, but that if you keep a dedicated but balanced mindset, you’ll be able to ride through those highs and lows. What have you learned as a musician since moving to LA? How has your sound evolved since then? I’ve learned that consistency pays off and that the journey is a marathon, not a sprint. Like many artists who move out here, I didn’t have many connections here to start with and really had to do my own groundwork with finding both gigs for myself and the right artists to work with. In a year of living here and putting myself out there though I’m really pleased with the shows I’ve been able to play so far, as well as some of the awesome musicians out here I have gotten to perform and collaborate with. My sound has matured a lot and has really gotten more focused as I’ve discovered more of what my sound exactly is the more I write. My sound has various influences, and I’ve gotten good at picking the different elements I love and packaging them together neatly in my songwriting. You mentioned that you are a part of multiple bands, as well as working on your own music. Do you prefer performing with bandmates, or as a solo performer, and will you continue to do both in the future? Yes! I currently play Lead Guitar in two bands; one of the features of my original music and the other one is a collaboration with another talented artist. I prefer performing live with a band, because I just love the full sound and energy that goes with playing with other musicians, especially with some of the awesome players I’ve had the privilege of playing with recently. Playing my original music in a band really allows it to take its full form, although I enjoy performing completely solo as well, but in a more intimate setting. I also enjoy playing guitar for other artists, because it keeps me on my toes as a musician, and I love how working with others influences my own songwriting and playing. How have artists such as Stevie Wonder, Tom Misch, and Anderson influenced your songwriting? What advice would you give to aspiring musicians? Soul, Funk, and Rnb music are really my greatest influences on my sound. Something that really influences me about artists like Anderson Paak. and Tom Misch is that they take that classic groovy soul sound that is influenced by the era of legends like Stevie Wonder, and they reshape it in a modern, innovative, and accessible way. That’s basically what I seek to do with my sound; combine the best of the old and the new to create something that is high-quality music but that anyone can vibe to! What can we expect to see from DKupe throughout 2020? 2020 for me is about putting out new music, playing more shows, making some more awesome video content, and connecting with more people! I have new music in the works that I’m really excited about putting out this year, so stay tuned for that.
