- The Keymakers Release Their Brand New EP “Spectra”
The Keymakers are a brother duo originating from Pittsburgh. From a young age, Rome and Red both set off on their own independent musical careers, it wasn’t until 2017 when the combined forces to create The Keymakers. Red fell in love with the sound of electronic music and EDM production at an early age, he used to DJ college parties and shows. Rome drifted more towards the pop/R&B side of things with a background training in instrumental jazz. The brother swiftly built a following due to their incredible musical knowledge and years of experience. With over 1 million streams on Spotify and a hefty following on social media outlets, The Keymakers are an unstoppable force to be reckoned with. In 2019, the brothers have released 5 singles and have more on the way. Beginning the year with “Insomniac (Mizu Remix)” in late January, The Keymakers showcased a more R&B vibe for their listeners to enjoy. In less than a month later, they released two more infectious singles titled “With You” and “Falling Down”. Juxtaposed perfectly with one another, these two releases highlighted a more vulnerable approach to songwriting as well as fine musicianship and production. Early in Summer 2019, The Keymakers went on to drop the first single “Lonely” from their much-anticipated EP “Spectra”, coming late November. “Lonely” was rewarded with nothing but success and completely captured listeners for the genre-bending soundscape. “Remember” is a brand new release from The Keymakers and serves as the second single from their upcoming EP. The dynamic duo is expected to drop once more single early November titled “California In The Sun”, and shortly after they’ll be dropping the entire project of “Spectra”. We’re looking forward to more and I highly recommend you give these guys a listen! Check out The Keymakers’ music here! Welcome back to BuzzMusic The Keymakers! Congratulations on your new EP “Spectra”! How long has this project been in the works? This project really came to life over this past summer. It’s interesting because one of the tracks on the EP was first thought up over a year and a half ago. But we sat down over the spring and decided that we wanted to put together a cohesive project, a collection of tracks that we could really tell a story with. And that’s where ‘Spectra’ was born. We’re so happy to see five more brand new tracks included on this release, which song from your upcoming EP would you say BEST describes your musical approach? That’s a really tough one. Our song What You Wanted is an awesome example of the direction our sound is going. The production in this track is something we’re super proud of and it was so exciting to work with another artist on the vocals. Like all the tracks on the EP, it’s a song that hits really close to home and tells a story that’s very personal to us - which is what we want to do with our tunes. “Insomniac” is one of our absolute favorites! Despite the upbeat energy, the lyrics seem to hold a deeper meaning. Can you tell our readers about the inspiration behind this track? Rome: The line that I kept hearing over our production as I started to write this one was “thinking bout you can’t get no sleep”, and the whole track came from there. As someone who has had trouble sleeping my whole life, I find there’s a lot of power and sometimes underappreciated value in the things that keep us up at night. So for me, it’s high praise to give someone that credit. The song just came together around that: the story behind the reasons that I can’t stop thinking about you. “Lonely” and “Remember” really introduce your listeners to a versatile side of The Keymakers that we’ve never seen before! Do you feel like it’s important to remain versatile in your music? What can you tell us about these songs? It’s always important to be versatile with your sound, and that’s something that is 100% built into who The Keymakers are. One thing that we make an effort to do is always stay inspired. Part of that is natural, there are things in the world that are natural inspirations - but there is also a chunk of that we have to take on ourselves. We try to expose ourselves to as many different musical inspirations as we can and through that, our sound continues to evolve. The music video for “Lonely” is incredible! What do you hope your listeners take away from it? Thank you so much! We had an awesome time filming it and thinking of the story behind it. One thing we really wanted to strike in the video is that feeling of isolation. The track itself is all about how sometimes it’s better to be alone and loneliness isn’t always a bad thing. We worked with a local filmographer at Prism Content House tried to capture the juxtaposition of a busy urban setting and the feeling of loneliness. Mostly, we wanted to create a vibe that matched the song’s story and would let the viewers really get into that feeling. Thank you so much for chatting with us once again! What's next for The Keymakers? Is live performance a part of your plans? Absolutely! We’re actually going on a tour in January and February around a bunch of the northeast. We’re excited to release this EP and share it with everyone, but we’re even more excited to get on stage and actually perform it. Our shows will be all on SongKick and we’re going to officially announce the tour dates and locations after we release the EP. We hope we’ll see you out there! instagram.com/thekeymakers #BuzzMusic
- Amazing 2019 Recap: Kendra & the Bunnies
Kendra Muecke is a singer/songwriter, guitarist, and astonishing poet performing as a solo act under the name “Kendra & the Bunnies”. Based in Los Angeles and born in Houston, Texas, her mission is to bring about a peaceful gathering of the community through song, voice, and action. Kendra combines music, spoken word, theatrical staging, and healing ritual to transport the audience into a mystical-surrender of now. Under the self-titled genre of “Native Americana’ that chants from the valley of Folk and Rock”, Kendra aims to bring the listener into thinking about where the roots of folk-Americana were founded. This year has been an incredible year for year Kendra Muecke. The multi-talented artist decided that 2019 would be the year she made her dreams a reality and this was evident through the consistently brilliant releases. Her debut full-length album “of Vinyl” is a beautifully charming 14-track story-line that gives Kendra’s fans an honest look at her life. She has a charisma and aura about her that’s contagious and affects anyone who hears her wonderful music. The album was followed up by her EP “of Always”, again featuring 6 original songs. Among these releases, “Timely Vision” and “Sad Sap” absolutely stood out for us. Kendra's lyrics are hypnotically poetic and beautiful. Not only has she been releasing music this year, but she also released her book of poetry titled “Project Non-Arch: Operation Clown School", available on Amazon Books, Barnes & Noble, and on website. Listen to Kendra & The Bunnies' new music here. Hey Kendra, welcome back! We're completely captivated by your sound, you have such a strong and warming presence throughout your tracks. Can you tell us more about your intentions when you first began to curate your debut album “of Vinyl"? Thank you so much for inviting me to interview again! I began writing the album "of Vinyl" during a period of major self-discovery in my life. Starting to put together this album marks the beginning of a vast intellectual transformation in my life, as well as an emotional growth period. I had just moved back to Los Angeles from Denver, Colorado, where I lived for two years. My intention for "of Vinyl" was to portray the deep love I have for life. When I say deep love, I mean the mysterious infatuation there is to be had in surprise revelation. There is so much to learn and so much to share with the Earth, with the Moon, with the Companion in the air. You've had such a strong love and passion for music at such a young age! How do you think you and your music have grown since you first started writing, versus now? This is a great question. I have actually been thinking about this query on and off as of late. When I first began writing poetry at 14, I would do 'automatic writing'. My pencil would greet the page and write, write, write, write with no editing in-between thoughts. I just let the words flow. The next period I went through was a questioning of, "Has this all been done before?" I coaxed myself to think about what my writing was really etching at; often it was emotion encased in themes, but I wondered how can I take these efforts further? I found a way to follow the emotion of my current state into exposing theme in and of itself; a braiding motion, weaving character. My current writing style is a mix of the two previously mentioned with an emphasis on purpose and cause. I have added in the inquiry, "How does my writing result?" How do my lyrics paint a picture of tomorrow? We are loving your new music video for “Sucré Mon Cherí”! Does the fact that it was filmed in Austin, TX on 6th St. hold importance in relation to the track? Oh, thanks! I grew up in Houston, Texas, so I've been visiting Austin for years. The city is close to my heart. When I knew that I was going to be in town to attend Austin City Limits Music Festival, I immediately envisioned shooting a music video there. That vision included 6th Street and the rock 'n roll bluesy song of mine, "Sucré Mon Cherí”. 6th Street has club after club after music venue after music venue lined up next to each other. Any and every night of the week, one can waltz down the street and hear bits and pieces of different country and bluegrass songs coming out of each honky-tonk. It's got a real pulse and still has bands toting guitars. I find that the prevailing theme of carrying on through heartbreak via music sat perfectly with the downtown Austin vibe. After all, ATX is called the Live Music Capital of the World. Alright, alright, alright. Song writing and the City. You’re an artist who is extremely active on social media in regards to sharing your new content and videos on Youtube! Do you think that’s a large and important part of being an artist in 2019? Entirely. Functionally, I incorporate social media into my life as a modality of my art. It's like a moving time-piece of my own gallery where I get to curate what viewers will read and see. It's a great snapshot of where I am (literally), what I am working on, and what I am looking forward to (and what I expect my viewers to look forward to). I like to take care of those who follow my actions. Social media, also, is a great platform to share all those musical, writing, and film endeavors I create. Marketing 101. Your versatility as an artist always keeps us wanting to see more! What is the concept behind your music video for "Lamental Limerence"? The footage for "Lamental Limerence" was filmed by a good friend of mine, Tricia Parker. We shot it on Super 8 film in Boulder, Colorado a couple of years back. The idea springs from the 1960's art-house pop-art movement, think Twiggy with Andy Warhol. We ran with that vibe in black & white with a layer of impending freedom from self-constraint. As you can see in the music video, I am changing from outfit to outfit. This is a representation of changing from facade to facade in-efforts of obtaining a certain result; in this case, the result in the song would be recognition from a desired lover. "How can I change myself so this person views me as I'd like them to?" We take this further in the video by showing me painting my face with a big paint brush... from clothes to mask. Thank you again for chatting with us, Kendra! It’s always a pleasure catching up with you! Do you have any parting words or announcements for the BuzzMusic community? Yeah! "Be the Voice You Wish to Hear on the Wind... Listen." Also, I have some upcoming shows on the horizon. 10/30 -- FREE Halloween show at State Social House, 7 pm. 11/12 -- FREE Songwriter Showcase at Kulak's Woodshed, 7 pm. 11/21 -- $10 Presale for show at the Viper Room, Acoustic Lounge, 7 pm. It’s such a pleasure to be chatting with you again. You seem to be an artist that puts a substantial amount of thought into your music and lyrics! Who/what has inspired you to be the artist you are today? Ayoo! Likewise! Thanks for having me back! As far as inspiration goes, I'd say I'm a product of a variety of things. Life navigation and the ranging experiences that come with survival. I also inspire myself cause you know.. that self worth has to of course start within you. "Lavish" is an energizing and refreshing new song. Where did you draw inspiration for this particular track? Glad you dig it! Honestly, this kind of wrote itself. Myself and Sunny Kale (absolutely dope producer) spent about 4 days straight in the studio cooking up a variety of ideas. During the tail end of our last session I had a basic concept in mind- menacing and foreboding, he put together the beat for Lavish, I brewed up a flow and thus another vibe was born. “4AM” seems like a deeply personal track. Is vulnerability something your fans can always expect from your music? Can you tell us more about this particular song? Most definitely. Well, depending on the angle I'm coming from. Music is such a beautiful thing in the way that you can use it to convey so much. This I wrote at a particularly pivotal point of my self-growth, weighing up potential decisions, the wins, and losses alongside the endless possibilities ahead. Holding myself accountable for the road less traveled. We know that you're a lover of integrating a variety of elements in your music. Would you ever incorporate contrasting genres into your music, or do you think it would ruin the type of sound you're attempting to reach? Oh most definitely. Blending contrasting genres is certainly something I would like to explore more of, but I want it to be organic rather than forced you know? I'm trying to be a maestro with the audio alchemy so experimenting is always going to be key. We're stoked on your new upcoming release! What can you tell us about your new song “ImmuneBoostr”? Appreciate you appreciate you. Immuneboostr is quite simply me reveling in the art of super-villainy and survival tropes. Sprinkled in some biblical and comic book imagery which I'm going to leave you and the listeners to unwrap and interpret. I guess the better question is, what do YOU think it's about? What can we expect to see from you next as 2019 comes to an end? So with the end of 2019 fast approaching (crazy how quickly time has flown), I've got two more singles to drop before I take a break and kick back for a little bit. Might aim for a double release in December, but either way more villain vibes on the way. instagram.com/gr3ywxlf #BuzzMusic
- Waves have an Undeniable Confidence and Bars to Match in “Reach For The Stars”
Waves is a Toronto-based artist who consistently delivers original and uplifting music. His passion for music is, without a doubt, in his DNA. He makes music to inspire and empower listeners that have been through struggle and hardships and encourages them to push through using his advanced lyricism. New from Waves is “Reach For The Stars”, a hip-hop anthem with a versatile, unique sonic undertone. This single serves as a follow up to “Thrill of It”, Waves’ debut track. Whether Waves’ weaving through catchy verses or the addicting hook, his powerhouse vocals remain strong over top of the intricate soundscape. His songwriting ability will leave you singing along to every word throughout “Reach For The Stars”, which features a completely addicting hook that will guarantee a second listen. The soundscape on this single leans partly towards those late-night vibes but partly resides somewhere a little harder hitting. By the time the track comes to an end, that backbeat has energized the room, and that hook has surely woven its way into your ear. Yet another remarkable single from Waves, an artist that always leaves us wanting more. We can’t wait to see what he delivers next! Check out “Reach For The Stars” here and read more below in our exclusive interview with Waves! Welcome to BuzzMusic Waves! You give off a really confident aura through your music! Is this a skill you've developed over time or has it come naturally to you? Thank you Buzz Music for being so welcoming! I take that as a big compliment as it's something I've developed over time. I pride myself on being an emcee more than a rapper and in the Era I grew up in you could NOT do your thing in a meek or shy way. There's a balance between arrogance and confidence that can be difficult to tightrope but I feel that I've come a long way and the limit is the... Stars. “Reach For The Stars” hit us to our very core with your bars! How have you developed your songwriting/rap ability overtime? I really appreciate that! I've developed my songwriting over the years simply through practice and challenging myself. Anyone who knew me throughout my life knows I've had Many loose-leaf lined papers, sticky notes throughout different jobs and plenty of books/notepads filled with writing. I have a keen ear for what's groundbreaking and would always try to emulate styles whether consciously or subconsciously, and the music I would listen to on the 160gb iPod on shuffle would be of a large variety. More recently I've been trying to make the most relatable vibes possible and just adding a lyrical twist to it all so it's not overly preachy. Do you feel that your music is an accurate depiction of your life? Do you feel ultimately connected to your listeners through your music? I do feel my music is an accurate depiction of my life whether it be a past, present or sometimes even futue stage of my life. This particular song was inspired by something VERY recent and I wanted to get out how I was feeling and voila! I wanted to make it positive rather than angry and to serve as a reminder that we can do and be all we want to be as long as we have the confidence and drive. Some people listen to music through EVERY experience in life and my goal is to turn all negatives into positives. Who has had the biggest influence on your life musically thus far? Can you describe the impact this particular individual has had in terms of your song “Reach For The Stars”? On a whole I'll say God and myself! Although I creatively have been influenced largely by names like Pac, Biggie, Jay-Z, Fabolous, Ludacris, Em, Kendrick, Joey Bada$$ and more, I've been involved in music in as many ways as I could since a child and I feel I owe it to the most high and myself because only we know how far I've come and all the hurdles that have come along with it this far. As I mentioned earlier, Ive been through it! So the version of me I am today can reflect on my growth and ability to overcome some of the biggest and worst obstacles and still keep pushing, not allowing the societal norms to limit my creativity or my goals. That's the essence of what Reach For The Stars embodies and so far its been received the way it was meant to be delivered, I'm grateful for that! Thanks for taking the time to chat with us! What’s next for you artistically? Does your creativity manifest itself in other ways? Its been MY pleasure chatting with you Buzz Music! Artistically there is A LOT more on the way. Im working on an early 2020 release of my debut project, Vices & Virtues, I've also launched my first prototypes for my brand of clothing (NEWIS - Nothing's Ever What It Seems) and I've been dabbling in producing music. The next year should be very exciting artistically. I plan to keep pushing the envelope and sharing more with you guys. instagram.com/waves.newis #BuzzMusic
- On Repeat: “Feel My Vibe” by California Based Indian Rapper Kognitive
Hailing from San Francisco Bay Area, California, Karna Gajab, better known for his professional name Kognitive is an emerging Indian rapper and gifted producer. He made his official start in hip-hop in 2018 and quickly stood out for his lyrical ability to combine both English and Hindi bars. Inspired by legends in hip-hop both old-school and more contemporary, Kognitie puts his authenticity on every track he touches. His latest single “Feel My Vibe” was produced by pkbeatz features bars of Kognitive’s outlook on life blended with Indian classical raga alaap (melodic improvisation). Currently, Kognitive is working on his upcoming debut LP/Album planned for a mid-2020 release! The unmistakable sound of Kognitive pours through in the form of an explosive new track “Feel My Vibe”. Kognitive smashes into action with this track, a musically pleasing hip-hop-funk soundscape supports a series of hard-hitting or melodically entrancing vocals, each part rhythmically on point and moving the piece along in a uniquely striking way. Everything from the beat to the vocals and the simplicity of that hook lingers in your mind after listening. Fine production by lets the music stand tall, a strong mix means you can turn this up and engage with the energy of each soundscape as much as the personality and storylines at the heart of the writing. Kognitive’s spoken-word vocals are concise and specific, they’re detailed and captivating right through to the end. All of this leans in the direction of originality and character, “Feel My Vibe” is absolutely worth a listen! Check out “Feel My Vibe” here. Hey Kognitive! Welcome to BuzzMusic! What inspired you to first begin making music and releasing it to the public? Shoutout to BuzzMusic for having me! I've been a musicophile right from my childhood days, having grown up listening primarily to Indian classical and fusion. It was only when I entered a secondary school that I began listening to world music that spanned genres and it was in my seventh grade that I first encountered hip-hop music via Dr Dre's Chronic. And I am glad that I bumped into hip-hop music with the most credible artist in the history of the game. The other major influence with rap music; and I guess this is true not only for me but for majority Asian kids out there, was listening to Linkin Park (it was more of a rock-era for Indian youth in the 90's and early 2000's) and being captivated by the Nu-Metal wave that fused hip-hop elements so well with Mike Shinoda's rap verses. But it wasn't until 2 years back when I really thought of writing my own verses that manifested into full-blown tracks and getting more into music production as an artist. As I've always written poetry (mostly for myself; never published), I found the perfect medium to express all my feelings. I released my first hip-hop track 'Judge Me' in Dec 2018, talking about how I was immune to societal judgments and why everyone else should be as well. Since then I've released 4 more singles, with my latest being 'Feel My Vibe'. And I haven't looked back since! You seem to be an artist that puts more thought into his lyrics than most. What can you tell us about the lyrical depth within “Feel My Vibe”? I've consistently held a view that hip-hop music is probably the only genre that has an infinite potential to bring about societal reform; be it social or political. The new wave of trap music is great but on most occasions, it lacks the true soul of rap music, that mainly constitutes your "bars" and what they are trying to convey. In "Feel My Vibe", am trying to put across what hip-hop music means to me, my influences coming from rap OGs, how it's helped me spit my true beliefs in life (no matter how controversial they are to society) and how vital I feel it is to be true to yourself and not project a fake image to please the society. Since you’ve been making music for a few years, how would you compare some of the earlier material you’ve written to your newest release “Feel My Vibe”? To be honest, its been only 2 years really, most of which have been spending time in learning the craft. When I released my first single, I was happy with my bars and the lyrical flow but I realized, only after putting the track out there, that I really need to up my game in terms of overall production quality, for it to better connect with the audience. With 'Feel My Vibe' (shoutout to pkbeatz for the beat!), I definitely feel that my production level has risen compared to previous singles but this is just the start; I truly have a long way to go before I start appreciating my own music :) What have been some of your proudest or most memorable moments or accomplishment in music so far? Frankly there hasn't been a real proud moment yet in my musical journey as am pretty much in the early stages. But yes, one memorable moment was when I penned down my second single "Level Up" overnight! We really appreciate you chatting with us about your incredible music! We’re super stoked to hear your upcoming album! What’s next for you artistically? Does your creativity manifest itself in other ways? I have a couple of ideas bouncing around. Before 2019 ends, I plan to release a 3-song EP, produced on Japanese trap beats and packed with hard bars. The tentative title is "Lyrical Yakuza" and I plan to finish writing it during my upcoming trip to Japan:) In parallel, am working on my first LP/album, targeting release for mid-2020. The track list is still evolving and I am in the songwriting process at the moment. But roughly, the LP will have 7-10 tracks, with bars in both Hindi and English. instagram.com/karna0490 #BuzzMusic
- New Music: Sincerely Craig Releases New Music Video for Single “Oh My"
Sincerely Craig is electrifying acoustic duo from Toronto, Canada. The name pays homage to where this power couple met, on Craigslist while living in downtown Toronto. Sasha and David come from completely different musical backgrounds and never thought they would make music together, let alone fall in love with one another. Sincerely Craig creates an explosive sound by combining all of the best elements of acoustic, metal, and rock. Sasha brings forth a musical influence with an extremely versatile and emotional voice while David delivers innovative guitar riffs and a powerful vocal register. The duo’s newest single, “Oh My” comes equipped with pummeling, in sync vocals and a sultry new music video to match. The first thing to strike you about this release from Sincerely Craig is the crisp and intimate finish of the recording. The simple strum of an acoustic guitar sounds relevantly blissful, contrasting the gritty vocals that follow. Once involved, the simple emotion and rising intensity of “Oh My” and the music surrounds you in the way that any effective and addictive song dealing with the deepest of human emotions should do. It captivates for its realness, the leading vocals from both Sasha and David have a genuinely passionate sound, not to mention a flawless ability to carry those varying notes with style and certainty. The song begins softly and emerges with power, not unlike some of the most commonly played indie-rock songs of recent years. “Oh My” has been considerately crafted, and this shows in the structure and evolution of it all. Not simply moving from a verse to a chorus, but ensuring every element involved assists the music and the emotion in that change. “Oh My” is a powerful and spectacular new song, we’re always looking forward to hearing more from Sincerely Craig! Based in Chicago, IL, Samei is a singer/songwriter who consistently displays her strength and vulnerability through her music. The indie artist flawlessly blends genres that are hallmarked by edgy takes on classic theories. Independently written and performed, Samei’s 8-song album “Waystation” is officially out now! Beginning with an anthem to empower and energize, “Up Down” is an indie-pop single with a mighty build-up to a drop that ultimately rains down with strength and secure intention. Also, the resolve of that title, that hook, resounds and satisfies beautifully at the end of each progression. Samei takes every moment to tell a detailed and clear-cut story, before rising and building anticipation towards the final moments of optimism and possibility. The leading voice reaches impeccable peaks during the final moments. “Revolving Doors” one of the best and most memorable indie songs 2019 has seen so far. A stunning performance from Samei compliments superbly poetic and thoughtful writing flawlessly. Such a simple yet beautiful and powerful hook, more and more uplifting with each reappearance. The soundscape builds subtly too, reinforcing that rising brightness and self-discovery. The beautifully colorful and heartfelt “One Stop, Shot” immediately reignites the strength of Samei’s voice and her ability to craft a melody and story-line that balances poetry and emotional relevance to a stunning degree. The song is instantly uplifting and powerful and pours through with a retro-electro pop strength that’s easily worthy of a broader audience. As the album progresses, eclecticism roams free to a fitting level. The title track, “Waystation” emerges with a piano-led groove and a more breathy, intimate vocal-line. There’s variation already, yet still, the mix and the style suit this project and playlist perfectly well. And like the hook strikes, Samei showcases mighty songwriting once again. Things mellow out for “San Bernandino”, subtle flickers of instrumentation appear and throughout the album, furthering that sense of freedom from the genre and helping keep things interesting and refreshing at every step. Things swiftly intensify throughout “San Bernandino” and Samei’s full vocal range and ability are brilliantly showcased. Towards the end, “Walk This Way” adopts a vintage classical jazz vibe, a smooth vocal, and a gorgeous melody add another moment of versatility and change. The piano-led purity and calm bring through that truthful, deeply personal writing style genuinely and intimately. Magnificent vocals carry the weight of this rising melody and the vulnerability and openness of the lyrics in a captivating manner. Towards the end of the project, Samei leads with softly expressive vocals on the considerate and intriguing “No Shame in That”. The versatility and vibe of this song help remind you that a live show is ultimately where these songs would really come alive. The album comes to a close with another hit of seductive rhythm, “Broken Bolts” features a simple, sweeping wash of optimism. Samei tells one final story, setting the scene and balancing details with emotional reflections. A wonderful, shoulder-swaying moment of uplifting progression and resolve, a great way to finish an incredible album. “Waystation” is perfectly juxtaposed and absolutely worth the time it takes to experience. From the powerful vocals to the expressive lyricism, “Waystation” was a treat to review. This is a spectacular release from Samei and we look forward to hearing more! Listen Samei’s new album "Waystation" here! Hi Samei! We thoroughly enjoyed your album “Waystation”. What do you hope your listeners take away from this project? How long has this been in the works? Thank you so much! I have two things that I really hope my listeners take away from the album. The first is that I really hope they have some emotional connection and it causes them to reflect on their mental health and relationships. A goal in writing this album was to stay authentic and vulnerable and I think it’s really beautiful to be able to give someone else a sense that they’re not alone in their emotions. The second thing I want my listeners to take away is that it doesn’t fit into a specific genre box. I think trying to “self brand” can limit who you are as a person so the songs on Waystation are purposely different from each other. A lot of the songs on the album are ideas that I started several years ago that I finished in the past year. When I started most of these songs I actually didn’t have the intention of creating an album so it’s actually representative of how I’ve evolved as a person and a songwriter. What song would you say forced the most emotion out of you? Can you tell us the inspiration behind this particular track? San Bernandino hands down. I really hesitated to include this one on the album because it’s so emotional for me. This song has a lot of layers that surround my experiences with eating disorders. I was undiagnosed but behaviorally anorexic for the first two years of my undergraduate degree and that turned into bulimic behavior that lasted for years. I became really anxious, depressed and at one point suicidal because I didn’t really see any way out of it. I’ve spent a lot of time trying to understand why I ever had any of those behaviors and this song came out of that time. The idea of “trying to find Joan Didion’s San Bernandino” is synonymous to me trying to chase this “golden dream” of being thin and successful only to never reach a point when I thought I was either of those things. If someone could only listen to one track off of “Waystation” to get a sense of who you are as an artist, which track would you suggest and why? Broken Bolts. It’s definitely not the most flashy track but I’m not the most flashy person either. I was actually trying to think of different mottos and phrases and I came up with this idea of “bold but understated” which one of my friends questioned if I wanted to use the word “understated” because the connotations usually aren’t helpful if you’re trying to make it in music. But I really am bold but understated and I like staying true to that. Anyways, Broken Bolts is a lyrical and musical metaphor about broken boundaries. Something I really love in music in general is dissonance and how it’s resolved. So, the seventh chords in the song are representative of the discomfort of someone breaking your boundaries. Something I’ve really struggled with is setting boundaries so it’s basically an anthem for me of this dissonance in knowing that I’m being taken advantage of but also not really being comfortable with pushing back. What are some challenges you faced when creating this album? How did you overcome those challenges? The biggest challenge for me was asking for help in mixing and mastering. I was really nervous about sharing the fact that I wanted to share my music because I was terrified of someone telling me it was trash. I’m so so so lucky to know someone I trust and went to highschool with that I was able to reach out to and work with (shoutout to Thomas Massarany). In general, for me, a lot of challenges have to do with asking other people to help or support me. I don’t think anyone owes me anything but at the same time I didn’t realize how many people I had in my corner until I started asking. Thank you so much for chatting with us! What’s one of the biggest lessons you’ve learned as an independent artist over time? Thanks for chatting with me! I think the biggest thing I’ve learned so far is that things happen slower than you want them to but it’s so worth it to me to make sure that I’m making the highest quality, most authentic art that I can. Other than that, it’s really just me saying something along the lines of “be afraid and do it anyways” to myself. Instagram Facebook #BuzzMusic

Micah was born in Jackson, Mississippi and moved out to Los Angeles, California to pursue his dreams. Micah eventually started a band called The Raz, and performed all around Los Angeles for a couple of years. Micah is hitting the scene hot with his newest single titled “War”. We loved a lot of elements to this record but let’s start out with the western acoustic melodies that were delivered with so much skill and clean execution. The instrumentation from the guitar, sets the tone for the entire song, and Micah’s raspy and grunge-like vocal tone helps create this cinematic vibe for the listener. The hook sings “This means war, fight of your life…” and this creates a highly passionate experience for the listener. Listening to “War” you can’t help but become highly inclusive to your goals. "War" is a song that gives you a push and ignites fiery emotions, that really makes you want to get what you yearn for. We just love the feeling “War” gives you as a listener. Not only are the aesthetics so digestible, but the song is also good enough to give it repeated listens over and over. The chemistry you feel between the music and yourself is what’s special.
