- BuzzMusic Chats With Arvie Bennett Jr.
Hey Arvie! Thanks for the interview! Really enjoying the album "Just A Cowboy". What can you tell us about this project? How long has it been in the making, and what’s the underlying thread that ties it all together? You're welcome and I am thankful for the opportunity to share with BUZZ Music again. It is always exciting to an artist when his/her music really touches the souls of others. Right now we sit at #4 on the National Radio Hits Country Top 50 and the "Just A Cowboy" single is being played all across the US! To be honest, "Just A Cowboy" has been 12 years in the making and includes songs that span most of my 20 year music career. The title track was written over 10 years ago at my family farm in Travelers Rest, SC. In many ways, to see "Just A Cowboy" it on the top of the charts, is surreal and I often feel like my grandparents and great-grandparents are looking down on me with a smile on their faces. I hope the underlying thread that ties "Just A Cowboy" together is transparency. Life can be hard at times and we all struggle with our demons but we are never alone. What made you choose the album name? In my life, I have fulfilled many different roles and held many different titles and I have enough degrees to give myself a temperature! I have been an elite athlete, a coach, a teacher, a pastor and everything in between. Yet, when it really comes down to it...I'm "Just A Cowboy". We love your single "Gnaw"! Can you tell us more about this track? I love old "Westerns" and they are full of classic one-liners. One of my favorites is from the movie Open Range…’There are some things that gnaw at a man worse than death.’ That simple yet profound one-liner has stuck with me for most of my life and eventually inspired me to write my latest song, Gnaw. I wanted my audience to come face-to-face with their own mortality and contemplate the timeless question…what is the meaning of life? Gnaw is one of the darker and more serious songs that I have ever written. However, I hope the song will inspire listeners to live their lives without regrets and to reach for long forgotten dreams because we only get one shot at this life and we have to make the most of it. How long have you been making music, and what’s the songwriting process usually like for you? My first solo was in Church when I was around four-years old. I was the little shepherd boy at Christmas and my mom played the piano for me. We practiced my solo all week long, especially the intro. There were three chords my mom would play and then I would start singing. On the day of my performance, my mom played the three chords and I didn't come in. So, in front of the whole Church, I looked over at her and said, "Play it again Sue." She did and the solo went off without a hitch. As far as songwriting goes, every song is different for me depending on the subject matter and the genre. There have been songs that I have written in one sitting over a couple of hours and then there have been songs that have taken a couple of months to complete. In addition, my songs are constantly changing as I perform them live and learn more about the art and craft of songwriting. Who or what inspires you the most to make this kind of music? Life experience inspires me to make music. I write about what I know and what I feel inside, good and bad. In essence, music is my therapy. Have you always had the ability to perform so well, or is your vocal style something you’ve honed over time? I believe that the ability to "perform" is mostly natural but I have worked very hard to hone my weaknesses. For instance, I took a couple years off the road and worked solely on my guitar playing. There's no substitute for hard work and dedication and anything worth doing is worth doing right. However, my vocal ability, is a God-given Gift. I open my mouth and I can sing and have been able to since I was a child. I can't and won't claim any credit for my vocal style and ability. I know that I am extremely blessed and I am very thankful to have the opportunity to make a living doing something I truly love. Stay connected with Arvie via his socials below! - DRAUCKER Brings Real Rock Back To The Music Industry With “Good To Talk To”
DRAUCKER began many years ago as three siblings, Nick, Sarah and Chris Draucker grew up in a musical household. With deep roots in christian, rock and blues styles, the band formed. Over the past two years, DRAUCKER added two talented friends into the mix. In addition to performing locally and regionally, DRAUCKER members continue to lead worship and devote time to their respective churches. In their shows, they break the genre barriers, leaving their fans speechless. Their hope is to write and produce excellent music, promoting positivity and goodness in this world. Armed with an eclectic list of covers and a growing repertoire of original songs, DRAUCKER is quickly becoming one of the most sought after bands. “Good To Talk To” is a superb song, the opening track on the brand new album of the same name, and a fine introduction to DRAUCKER if you’re new to their music.“Good To Talk To” takes its time to kick in, showcasing from the offset an artist with a clear awareness of the value of effective structuring and artistic intention. Following this, the high energy hits with skill and emotion intertwined, the vocal delivery follows a similarly complex yet captivating pathway, poetry and personal reflection meet to compelling results. A great track to get you up and moving around, “Good To Talk To” brings a sense of reflective weight and poetic scene setting. I highly recommend you check out “Good To Talk To” and the entire album! Stay on the lookout for more from DRAUCKER. Listen to “Good To Talk To” here and keep scrolling for more with DRAUCKER! Hey DRAUCKER! Loving the new release! What was the general reaction you were hoping for from listeners? Setting aside the musicianship, melody, guitar solos, drum licks, bass lines... We want people to connect with our songs and more importantly connect with music in a way they might not have been able to in the past. We want our fans and listeners to fall in love with the songs. What’s your writing process like as a group? Most of the time we start off with a guitar part that we play obsessively for days. Then we figure out the feel and what needs to be said. Sometimes it's quick, but most of the time like "Until Tomorrow" it takes a while to get the write perspective and words on the page. All of our songs come from an honest place in our lives. They are places where a lot of people find themselves which is why people can connect with the songs easily. If you could play any venue or event in the world, which would it be, and why? Times Square because people from all walks of life are there in NYC and Wembley Stadium... If you can sell that place out, you've made it. We want to share everything that Draucker stands for, the positivity and good vibes, the love of music, the never give up mentality, with the world. Where do you imagine the best setting is to experience your track “Good To Talk To”? The song is amazing on the CD, but there's nothing like experiencing DRAUCKER's live rock-n-roll at a show. What do you have planned creatively throughout the rest of 2019? We will keep writing music together and try to bring something new to each song. We want to write in a way that pays respect to everyone that has come before us as well as pull off something that has never been done before. We are also pursuing regional and national recognition, taking our music to other major cities, promoting to radio, and growing our brand. Catch up with DRAUCKER via the bands socials below! - Dvniel Brings Summer Vibes With "Lie To Me” (Oscar Martín Remix)
Behind “Dvniel” is the singer and songwriter Daniel Capellaro who flawlessly blends musical genres including Pop, R&B, Folk and Country. Born in New Jersey, Daniel and his family moved every few years across the United States to places like New York, Tennessee, Virginia, and Philadelphia, attending 6 different high schools, and for a stint of time, the family lived in a tent across the US. All of these diverse experiences helped shape his wide range of musical influences. Settling in Los Angeles, CA, Dvniel’s musical accomplishments include writing for and working with artists and bands such as Tonic, Lifehouse, Maxwell, PInk, Pitbull, Chris Brown, and Boyz II Men. "Lie To Me” (Oscar Martín Remix) is an eclectic and wavy EDM remix dripping with summer vibes done by the very talented DJ/Producer Oscar Martín out of Nashville. Hard work and passion lead the way perfectly for anyone who’s looking to create a sound that’s a dream to listen to, and that’s authentically theirs. There’s a simple yet sublime sense of warmth and progression to the music and the ideas, which lets it all completely embrace you and allow you to escape your current environment or head-space for a while. Perhaps it’s the way Dvniel lets himself be completely real and visible within this song, it feels like his truth, poetic and minimalist, but honest. Which means, inevitably, you’re only going to enjoy the song more and more so, as it gathers an incredible amount of momentum and energy. Check out "Lie To Me” (Oscar Martín Remix) here and read more below in our exclusive interview! Hi Daniel! In your own words, what’s the concept behind “Lie To Me”, and why did you decide to create a song around that? The song is about needing to accept what is often so hard to accept; that sometimes hearing a lie is often easier than facing the truth. I had a very dear friend of mine who lost a girlfriend to suicide. Losing a loved one is so tragic and for him, it was compounded with a sense of guilt and responsibility due to their breaking up prior to the tragic event and having that be a direct cause of her losing hope in herself and a for a future. It was very personal for me to write this, and to create a story and a message for people who struggle to feel loved and accepted. Being in love is such a responsibility and can be so fragile. What do you hope people take away from this release? My hope is that the song might be a reminder for those who struggle with feeling loved and accepted and that understanding your worth and role within that relationship is so important. It comes with great responsibility and you can often be with the wrong person while trying to convince yourself they're the right person. My Music Video depicts that story pretty specifically. Who or what would you say inspires or influences you the most musically? My Dad. My Dad is a storyteller and a musician (some would argue those aren't mutually exclusive). He instills in me a sense of musical purpose and direction and helps remind me to always stay "in check" with yourself as a creative and be receptive to everything that's going on in the world and how we are affected by one another. What are your main aspirations as an artist right now? Im just trying to put out the best music I can possibly write and sing. Im going to be releasing a handful of singles and each single is going to have a different side to them, ranging from Pop, EDM and acoustic versions. We live in a singles market at the moment and each song has a chance to be re-envisioned. Im collaborating with DJs and Producers to do remixes and features that I will both write and perform. I will be releasing lots of video content like my new Music Video for "Lie To Me" that just came out on Friday August 16th (today) What’s something about you that most people don’t know? I handle all my own business. I do all my own marketing, digital imaging and have built a team around my brand that I work with intimately on all details pertaining to my music and my releases. I believe so strongly that it is the team you build as an Artist that determines the Artist's success. I am operating like a Record Company but with complete Artistic and creative control. - Julie Haven Captivates Listeners With New EP “Fool’s Gold”
Julie Haven’s fluctuating piano pop blends the style of Tori Amos' intricate piano work, the intensity of Alanis Morissette and the conviction of Fiona Apple, to make a unique sound of her own. Writing from her heart and her own experience, she allows her audience to personally connect with her music through her songs of love, heartbreak, personal growth and self-discovery. Composing her first song at the age of 7, music has always been in Julie Haven’s blood. By 13, she was performing solo shows at local music venues, always impressing her audience with the emotional maturity she conveyed in her songs. She recently finished recording a full length album in Nashville, TN and from it, her 4-track EP “Fool’s Gold” was released in August 2019. She will be releasing the full length album early next year. To start off her incredible EP “Fool’s Gold” is Julie Haven’s heart wrenching single “See Me Cry”. Powerful, contagious and somehow empowering, Julie pours her heart and soul into this seamless intro track. We’re completely captured by Julie’s mesmerizing vocals and meaningful lyricism. Effective songwriting often expresses what are perhaps common or very human ideas but from an unpredictable or unfamiliar perspective. Approaching the subjects from a new angle, one that intrigues, and this is something you get in high doses throughout this release. Within the next track “Love And War”, the artistry of Julie is on full display as you witness and connect with the songs. Everything from the melodies, the riffs, the organic elements of the instrumentation, and the raw emotion of the lyrics. The lyrics are beautiful, poetic and new, considerate and provocative. The hook is incredible and it grows stronger with each and every appearance. As the EP moves into “Dust”, Julie Haven presents spectacular melodies and concepts in a gentle and easy to believe manner. There’s a humble and subtle nature to the performance, expressing the change from the mellow to the intense by means of powerful piano and a slight change in notes. The ambiance here is smooth and melancholic, perhaps even haunting. The music is stylish and the leading vocal features some beautifully addictive qualities that effortlessly win your attention. This song has so much space surrounding the melody, it hits with impact. The emotion is raw, the lyrics confront you, and the storytelling is all at once separate and connected with you as a listener. It’s a distant tale, but it’s spoken directly for you. The sense of humanity and realness is overwhelming, and the effect is wonderful. The EP comes to a close with “Fated”, but things by no means fizzle out to finish. Everything you’ve come to familiarize yourself with returns. This includes the poetry, the ambiance, the unexpected melodies, the artistry, the creativity and Julie Havens captivating and breathtaking vocals. The intensity of this final track builds in a powerful and mesmerizing manner. The words demand that you listen, to the point that you’re keen to listen to the whole project over again to re-gather all of those ideas and try to make better sense of it. The music surrounds you, and the moment is incomparably bold yet undeniably peaceful. It’s a huge way to finish and absolutely worth exploring. Check out “Fool’s Gold” here and read more with Julie Haven below! Welcome back Julie Haven! Congrats on the release of “Fool’s Gold”. What is the main theme of this EP? What inspired it? Hi! Thank you so much for inviting me back! I am really excited that this EP is finally being released. The theme of this EP is like most of my songs; It’s about love and loss. But going into that even deeper, I entitled it “Fool’s Gold” because these 4 songs are little snippets inside 4 different relationships I have had in my life. They were all someone I thought were something special at the time. Especially the person “Dust” is written for. But in the end it was all an illusion and I ended up feeling like a fool, heartbroken and alone. The really cool thing about how the title came to me is that I found a heart shaped pyrite stone. Pyrite is also known as fool’s gold. As soon as I laid eyes on it, I knew I had to have it. It was beautifully damaged. It looked like it had been beaten and shot with a bullet, yet it was still in tact. I didn't know at the time I would be naming the EP “Fool’s Gold”. I just knew it had something to do with my music and me as an artist. So now I carry the stone with me and it is part of the artwork for my second single “Love and War” as well as the back cover of “Fool’s Gold.” I think it will be appearing throughout my music in a lot of ways. Can you dive into the lyrics in “Dust”? What did you aspire to achieve with this song? This song was written for someone I thought was “the one”. I felt so stupid when I realized it was all a facade. I had never felt so broken as when I went through that heartbreak. It was truly devastating. At the time I didn’t realize he was a narcissist. He took me for a ride. I went through a roller coaster of emotions. He was charming and put me on a pedestal then just as quickly knocked me down and I didn’t know what I did wrong. I couldn’t understand why he just left me there. I felt...broken. I base everything in my life off of my own intuition, so throughout this whole song I’m asking if I am wrong; meaning is my intuition wrong? The most powerful and devastating part of this song is when I say “And I once believed in a love eternally, And I thought you were the one. And if I was wrong, Oh God what have I done? I won’t trust myself anymore”. It was the first time my intuition led me astray, and I wasn’t sure if I could ever trust my gut again after that. I wasn’t sure I would come back from that. Looking back, I realize I probably always knew something was off. I just didn’t want to see it. It was a hard lesson. But my eyes were open wide after that. When I wrote that song I was feeling extremely vulnerable and that’s what I wanted to achieve; that feeling of utter despair and hopelessness. And I think I did. What challenges did you face when creating “Fool’s Gold”? How did you overcome those challenges? Money lol. Lots and lots of money lol. If you want quality recordings YOU NEED MONEY. Did I mention you need a LOT OF MONEY? And if you are a full time musician like me, money is hard to come by. So I worked my ass off playing as many gigs as possible and saved as much money as I could. Then to help me over the hump I ran a very successful kickstarter campaign and ended up raising over 10k. Granted, it ended up costing more like 25k with the full length album recordings alone, but it was definitely helpful. If people only have time to listen to one song of yours, which would you recommend and why? Ooohhh…..this is a tough one. All 4 of these songs are very different from each other aside from the lyrics being of the same theme. “See Me Cry”, my first single, is probably the most “poppy” sounding and “happiest”, if you can even call it happy. It is very commercial and has a mainstream appeal. “Love and War”, my second single, has a driving beat and catchy melodies but still very sad and dark. I really love the way this song turned out. It has an 80’s synth pop vibe going on with still sounding very modern and a lot of people have been enjoying this one. This one I would also consider to have mainstream appeal. “Dust” is a ballad and could very well be the most heart-wrenching of all the songs. I have been hearing from some close friends and family that this is their favorite because of the vulnerability in the lyrics and vocals. “Fated” musically sounds the most different from all of my songs I have ever written in my opinion. This song was very much influenced by my love for Fiona Apple and Aimee Mann. This is another sad song about facing the reality that the relationship is doomed and you can only deny it for so long. It is also another favorite for some of my close friends and family. So if I had to choose only one song, it would depend on the taste of who is listening. I would love some feedback from anyone who listens on which song is their favorite. What’s next for you through the end of 2019? I have a full length album I am finishing up called “Dramatic Departures”, which I am extremely excited for. We haven't set an official release date yet but I don’t think it will be released before the end of the year. In the meantime I am going to keep promoting the EP and play some shows in Michigan and Florida and a few cities in between for the next few months. I am also going to be working on a music video or 2. Be in the know with the latest on Julie and her releases through her social media: Facebook Instagram Twitter #BuzzMusic
- Nancy Daines Release Powerful Ballad “The Way You Love Me”
A breath of fresh air in the pop world, Nancy Daines is unapologetically herself as she shows off jazz roots, soulful melodies, and powerhouse vocals. Daines captures audiences with an electric and fun-loving personality and a jaw-dropping vocal range. Her infectious joy and honesty creates a relatable space for people to be a part of - and her goal is just that. With her highly-anticipated EP on the way, “While We’re Young” is bound to be an impressive and authentic view into who she is and where she is going.” “The Way You Love Me” is a song that pours through with a certain subtle confidence and a simultaneous element of love and appreciation. Both of which prove inspiring conceptually yet calming on the musical front. The opening moments lay out a fairly classic, jazz-cafe kind of vibe fused with a light beat, a few dashes of contemporary pop. Then Nancy’s voice emerges amidst this growing rhythm, uniting with the progression as things move onward into gentle, soulful territory. Her voice meanders in a totally unique way, switching from spacious and short lines to a quicker pace that’s equally gentle in delivery as the song’s structure makes itself known. This voice is categorically something of its own, Nancy Daines has a sound that is undeniably hers, and the way she floats through the stages of the track, with softness yet intention, it’s beautifully captivating and genuinely refreshing amidst today’s musical landscape. Absolutely an artist worth knowing about. Listen to “The Way You Love Me” here and read more with Nancy below! Hi Nancy! Thank you so much for your time, it’s great to connect with you! How long have you been making music, and who or what first inspired you to start? Hello! So excited to connect with you guys! I know you get this a lot, but I truly have been singing for as long as I can remember. My sister first inspired me to because I wanted to be just like her and she sang all the time. My mom mom used to sit at the piano and we would sing with her as she played all kinds of songs. Once I started, I really never stopped! There was something about bringing people the joy of music that made me feel like I was meant to do it. I found I loved music and the stage! In church and school I was always the little girl being way too extra - treating everything like I was starring on Broadway. How do you get started when writing songs, and how do you know when a song is finished and ready to be shared? I wish I had some great formula for popping out songs, but truly it is always so different! Sometimes I'm driving and I start singing a melody that sticks. Other times, I'll experience something (or watch someone else experience something) that stays with me and I know it's important to write out so that I can process it and other people can relate to it. As any type of creative person, I don't know if I ever fully feel 100% finished with a project. There are always little things I would change - even the songs I have already released. But I think a song is ready when you believe you did the absolute best you could do in the moment, with the resources you were given, and it feels true to you. You have a really beautiful and powerful singing voice. Were you vocally trained, and is there any advice you can offer to singers who want to improve their range or their strength when performing? Thank you so much! I grew up singing in choir and started taking private classical voice lessons my senior year of high school. After high school I took commercial lessons in college! If I could give one piece of advice to a singer, I would say this - be confident. Something I have really learned (especially these past couple years) is that singing is sooo mental. Of course it helps to have technical training, but if you are confident to go for a note or pitch before you sing it, you’ll save yourself from so many pitch issues. Confidence can trick an audience into thinking you're even better than you are haha. What can listeners expect from your EP “While We’re Young”? This is the most authentic project I have ever made, it feels so true to me! People can expect a combination of playful lyrics and melodies, jazzy chords, and grooves that get you moving. It’s all catchy tunes that you will want to blast with the windows down on a road trip. The songs feel like a map of my experiences in my twenties - but also with a lot of influences and references from my childhood. It explores feelings of wanting to be heard in such a loud society, dealing with fading love, and experiencing a new and exciting love. A nostalgic and yet modern take on the world around me. Old school meets new! I hope that people my age can relate to what I've been going through, but also an older generation can look back and relive those same feelings they may have experienced when they were our age. That's how the name came about! What’s next for you? Hopefully first some sleep! After that - who really knows. I am trying to get better at being present in whatever I'm doing now instead of planning 10 steps ahead. But if I had to guess, I could see a Christmas project in the works! I also absolutely love gospel music, so that might have an influence on the next set of songs! Whatever it is, I'm excited to find out! - Ryder Sinclair Drop Explosive Electro-Pop Track “Through The Night”
Based out of Oulu, Finland, Ryder Sinclair is a talented 23 year old music producer. He cites as his influences David Guetta, Martin Garrix, Kygo, and Flume, among other imaginative and creative producers. RyderSinclair committed himself wholly to music production in 2012 , and since then he has made a name for himself on the electronic music scene. Ryder focused on progressive house early in his career, but currently he’s shifted his attention to a pop/ballad sound, bringing together elements of future genres such as future bass and future house. His mission is to create music that people enjoy listening to music that will get people moving, and music that offers something extra, an emotional punch that sticks with you long after you hear it. The music in “Through The Night” has the vibrant energy of electro-pop for the most part, but what makes the lyrics hit with even more impact is the structural shift from this, the fullness, to the gentle, spacious, uplifting melody of the hook. The more you listen, the more the music draws your focus to that key idea, the more you’re likely to find yourself considering and appreciating the little things in your own life. That’s what great music does, it lets you escape from a small mind loaded with concerns, and it surrounds you in thoughts and feelings relating to those things that really matter. It makes you feel good and particularly grateful. This is a wonderful release from Ryder Sinclair, the emotion that comes through in the words is magnified by that which can be heard and felt via the leading vocal performance. The structure of the song is authentic and real. Rhythmic, hopeful, enjoyable in itself but more importantly, it’s inspiring when you really break it down and pay attention. Listen to “Through The Night” here and read more with Ryder Sinclair below! Hi Ryder Sinclair! In your own words, what’s the concept behind “Through The Night”, and why did you decide to create a song around that? I started the song from the chords and melody on a sunny summer day which inspired the energetic feel to the song. I liked the sound and feel of the song and I continued on adding more elements and fine tuning the sounds. The song was created for the late summer and I think I captured the feel pretty well. What do you hope people take away from this release? I hope people will enjoy listening to the song and share it with their family and friends. I hope the song gives energy to the listener the same way I got while creating the song. Who or what would you say inspires or influences you the most musically? I get inspiration from many things in my life. From the people I live with, the music I listen to or just a good day can inspire me to create new music. If I had to name other artists who have inspired me in the past few years I would say Avicii, Don Diablo, Garrix, David Guetta and Flume. What are your main aspirations as an artist right now? My main aspiration is to get better as a creator and growing and connecting with my audience. I wish to connect with more people in the industry and create even better songs for my fans. What’s something about you that most people don’t know? I once lived in Maryland while my mom worked for NASA. I started school in the US and I learned to write English before my own mother tongue Finnish. Follow up with Ryder Sinclair via his Instagram! #BuzzMusic

- NEW MUSIC RADAR: The Weadon Boys Are Back With A Hot New EP “Life Is War”
Back again and better than ever, Tim Corcoran, the founding member of the duo, and Mark Obitz have a sound that is unmatched in today’s rock music industry. Together the two make up The Weadon Boys, an eclectic rock duo create music that live by mottos like “don’t be boring” and “seek the ecstatic”. Making music for over twenty years, Obitz gave Corcoran the final push he needed to begin this stellar project. The Weadon Boys have spent the last two years in studio refining their craft and writing many soon to be released hits. Genre-bending and thrilling, The Weadon Boys have a story to tell and a sound that demands to be heard. The Weadon Boys brand new EP “Life Is War” is out now! The intro track and my personal favorite is titled “City Of Angels”. Equipped with new visuals to match the explosive sound, The Weadon Boys have kicked off the EP to a spectacular start. “City Of Angels” is a song that takes full advantage of contrast and builds up through its various sections in a manner that feels perfectly united to the sentiments in the writing. The music video features The Weadon Boys in their true element -- performing in the heart of Los Angeles, surrounded by woman. Drawing a crowd and using their musical influence to form a sense of togetherness, The Weadon Boys come in strong with “City Of Angels”. Next up is the title track “Life Is War”! While that unmistakable voice is the first thing to reach out, later on it’s undoubtedly the switch to something of a harmonically-infused, partly blues-rock explosion of energy and color. There’s as much power in the instrumentation as there is in any of the lyrics or vocal inflections.“Mad About You” is a superb song and a great place to begin if you’re new to the band’s sound. A live show is where things really come to life, the first few seconds of this recording make you crave a gig setting. As it stands though, the recording offers everything it can to the blues and rock fans out there who’ve missed the raw power and purity of the genre. “Hell Yeah” leads with a fairly familiar set-up, providing that quickly seductive musical swagger required to draw an audience from afar. You also get some genuinely inspiring, empowering songwriting. There’s an inherent air of adventure to the song, which seems to float through in contrast with the original essence of blues music, but for all of these reasons it appeals, it brings freshness, and it works. The EP “Life Is War” transitions into the intense ballad “Faithless Days” and we’re blown away. An equally brilliant bit of writing and performance, the vocal is familiar now, there’s character to connect with, and the melody and soundscape develop slowly. “Faithless Days” is something of a slightly smoother piece of music, the lyrics and the chord progression, and the melody all lean in a softly confident, mildly melancholic but ultimately cool and calm direction. The progression is actually superb, the melody on top of this meanders in a notably satisfying way to provide a simple but supremely effective trait that gives the song an addictive quality. The Weadon Boys consistently showcase different sides to their creative approach. From softness to weight, calm to chaos, they utilize every element involved in order to craft something artistically relevant to the song’s underlying concept. In the case of “We’ll Meet Again”, this creative angle reaches perhaps its most uniquely representative yet. With or without the backstory, the song sets an appealing scene, musically and lyrically. Though with it you’re given a little more context and realness, which ultimately offers a stronger connection. “Life Is War” is an incredible new EP from The Weadon Boys! The music is heavy and funky, vibrant and loud, and the vocal offers a similar level of madness and desperation as the words pour through. It often takes far longer than the industry standard of three to four minutes to tell a story worth telling, and to do so in a new and captivating way. The Weadon Boys don’t take rules or recommendations into account. This duo always intrigues and impresses us, but this EP is easily their most immersive and powerful yet. Absolutely worth experiencing. Listen to “Life Is War” here, and read more with The Weadon Boys in our exclusive interview. Welcome back to BuzzMusic Tim and Mark! Congratulations on the release of “Life Is War! How would you introduce the sound, style and intention of this release? Thanks for the interview! It’s much appreciated. This is Tim. On this release, we wanted to showcase our versatility. So we included songs with some real variation in styles and attitudes. As ever, we wanted all the songs to be loaded with character and musicality. We hope we’ve done that here. Your sound is brilliantly passionate yet also impressively professional and easy to get into. How long have you been making music, and how have you honed and perfected your approach over time? Tim again. Thank you! My strategy, as a rank amateur starting out, was to surround myself with professionalism and talent! Being based in LA that’s easy to do. This city attracts artistic talent, of course, and I’ve been lucky to be able to team up with guys who’ve spent their whole lives in the business of making music. Mark has never worked a real job in his life. It’s always been music, and he has an impressively wide experience as a guitarist and producer. I’m grateful that The Weadon Boys has been able to provide him a platform to spend untold hours in the studio, with all the time and resources he needs to fulfill his genius. Sasha (keyboards), Mike (drums/mixing), Rudiger (recording engineer), Harley (bass), Trent (harmonica) and Camille (backing vocals) are extremely talented, experienced and passionate about what they do You can hear it. As for me, I spent a long time as a non-performing musician, hanging with gypsies in Spain, in the local flamenco scene there. That’s where I cut my teeth - and I think that the “brilliant passion” you hear is me translating the passionate character of gypsy flamenco, and converting it into American rock. Every song I write and sing, I consciously think of doing that. What did you hope to achieve with the music video for "City Of Angels"? Our main goal in the video was to have a blast. Jen Rosenstein directed that for us. When she first asked me my vision for it I said, “well to start with, let’s think about me in the middle of Hollywood Blvd on a busy Sunday afternoon standing on a stripper pole and singing as loud as I can!!” The rest just emerged from there. We wanted the city itself to be a main character - but not all the usual iconic Los Angeles stuff. We wanted to capture some of the grit of real LA. This EP is fairly eclectic! How do you decide what to write about and in which direction to take things? That’s an interesting question. We always start with the music, and the words come in later. And when we’re making the music, which we usually form into an acoustic guitar arrangement to begin with, we’re just looking for grooves and styles that appeal to us. We have absolutely no words, or lyrical themes, or even titles, in mind. At that point, I usually retreat for a few days and listen to the arrangement over and over and I let themusic speak to me. Piece by piece themes emerge, maybe a vignette, or a hook, or just a few cool phrases. Sometimes just a title. And from there, it’s then a question of filling it out by repeat play-along, with the words coming in bit by bit, often with substantial revisions along the way. It’s a true voyage of discovery for me as the writer, and I’m usually very surprised to find out what the music had been “speaking” to us all along. If people only have time to listen to one song of yours, which would you recommend and why? I’m gonna say “Hell Yeah” from the new EP because it showcases the prodigious musical talents of all our guys. Trent blows it up on theharmonica on this song - he’s got a real gift for giving heart and grit to his riffs. Sasha’s piano made the song for me - he really knows how to fit that instrument right into the groove of a rock song. Mike’s drums are always the best - there’s a reason he’s such a sought after session guy in LA. And he mixed this song too, putting together all its varied elements deliciously - it’s a classy mix. Mark, of course, is inch-perfect on guitars - beautiful orchestration. And his production vision on this was pure gold. For my part, when I first showed the guys this song, they were like, man, that’s “gutsy”, or maybe they even said “ballsy”. I have to really lay it out there in the choruses and outro to make this work best. So I put it all on the line cuz I had to. The end result is a banging rock ‘n roll song and a fair representation of what The Weadon Boys are about. What are your thoughts on contemporary rock, specifically the rock music of 2019 so far? Hahaha. I was trained by Spanish gypsies in the south of Spain. If anyone asked them what music they listened to, the stock answer was “I pluck my own chickens”. That basically meant that they were really about making music all day long more than listening to it. And I have to say that I carry that ethos with me even today - I’m all about writing, refining, critiquing and fixing my own music. And when I’m done, my favorite thing to do is take victory laps by listening to what I created. So I honestly have no idea what anyone else is making on the scene today. I’ll leave it to you, and the audience, to decide if we fit in or not. Stay updated with the latest on The Weadon Boys regarding releases and shows via their Instagram! #BuzzMusic
