  • A Sleeping Bear Trudges Through Peaks & Valleys In Debut EP, “Daydream Land”

Charging his way through the modern music scene is the ukulele-fronted folk project turned alternative-rock powerhouse, A Sleeping Bear, now releasing his big debut EP, Daydream Land. Formed in 2017, A Sleeping Bear gradually experimented with various sounds and stylings over the years, leading him to a new outlook on writing and creative expression. Now pushing the limits of alternative rock, A Sleeping Bear recently released his debut EP, Daydream Land, discussing themes of the human experience, the high and low points, and finding the beauty of living in every moment. The project kicks off with the larger-than-life introductory track, "Take The Chicken Door," which opens with static for the first 30 seconds, leading us to what sounds like a disgruntled phone call. And then, before we know it, A Sleeping Bear hits us over the head with ultra-powerful guitar riffs and his animated, intense vocal performance reminiscent of our favorite punk bands of the 90s. It's a killer opener that perfectly sets the tone for the rest of the project. On track number two, "A Song For Us," A Sleeping Bear leans into his alternative prowess and channels even greater emotion for this soulful tune. A Sleeping Bear has no problem grabbing the listener's attention with his powerful stylings that blend perfectly with the cinematic instrumentals. This song feels like an homage to a unique relationship's strengths and weaknesses, promising to work it out and weather the storm. Landing on the third track, "A Constant Reminder," A Sleeping Bear ups the vibe with lively instrumentals and his uplifting yet emotional performance, discussing themes of loving something that's not there. While exclaiming that he's in love with a ghost, ready to spend his days being haunted, A Sleeping Bear transitions into this hazy breakdown on the bridge to round out the emotion. Yet, the influential outro picks it back up, and we're left bopping our heads to the song's irresistible rhythm. Reaching the second half of the EP with track number four, "Where I Want To Be," A Sleeping Bear sinks deeper into introspection while the soothing instrumentals melt through the speakers. This beautiful song, packed with sweet melodies and warm harmonies, might be our favorite on the EP. It perfectly represents A Sleeping Bear's emotional vulnerability that genuinely resonates with any listener, helping them out of misery and into serenity. The powerful message paired with the soul-soothing instrumentals make this song top-tier. A Sleeping Bear keeps the energy high for track five, "Space Age Love Song," kicking over our speakers with riveting alternative-rock instrumentals and a raw punk undertone. The theme of undying, celestial love runs heavy in this song, as A Sleeping Bear expresses the realization that he's falling in love, and yes, it might feel good this time around. The chilling indie-rock instrumentals bring the message home loud and clear: love can be downright terrifying and make you cry, but it might just be worth the pain. Jumping into the EP's sixth and final track, "The Nightmare of Losing You," the song softly opens with fuzz reminiscent of the ocean waves, gradually leading toward A Sleeping Bear's stunning electric guitar picking and tender vocals. While expressing the dark thoughts lingering in his mind of losing a lover he can't 'bear' to live without, A Sleeping Bear leads us to the beautiful hook, packed with emotional harmonies, soft guitar, and a cinematic atmosphere like no other. It's the perfect outro track to an EP that discusses a broad range of human experiences, ending on a deeply relatable, passionate note. Overall, A Sleeping Bear is making his mark on the alternative music space, and his debut EP, Daydream Land, is leading the charge. Get to know the artist's new sound and find the EP on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to BUZZ, A Sleeping Bear, and congratulations on your wonderful new release, "Daydream Land." When did you start writing songs for this project, and what inspired you? The Songs for Daydream Land started forming around late 2022. Covid was the driving force that got me back into writing after my uke demo, but I used it as an outlet- a diary or journal. I have been playing and writing for most of my life, and being able to put my thoughts and worries down in that form just seemed natural and less tedious. I wanted to make it more poetic rather than scribbling down a bunch of stresses that I would never read back. I wanted to show others we have more in common than they think. How would you describe your sound today, like what you've brought to the table in Daydream Land? When I released my Uke demo, it was to show my admiration for the atmosphere and relationships that folk music can bring. As I've gotten older, my style of music has also aged, but I grew up heavily in the hardcore scene. The basement shows halls. The atmosphere in those settings is electrifying. I have always been inspired by the energy that sound brings. I wanted to bring together the two atmospheres I admire so much because of the common theme of togetherness. What came out of this is a mishmash of both. I can't tell you what genre of music Daydream Land should be labeled, but if I had to describe it, it closely resembles post-rock. I miss going to shows when each band was of a different genre. You don't see that too often anymore. I hoped to produce a sound where A Sleeping Bear would fit well in multiple genres, and I did that well. What was the most challenging part about creating Daydream Land? Were there any tough, emotional moments along the way? The main hurdle I went through early on was, "What is my sound? What am I going for?". Initially, I kept trying to put myself in a specific box. And when dealing with one's self and emotions, it isn't fair to label yourself a certain way. No one can describe themselves that way. Everyone has their own complex emotions and stresses. At this point, I said screw it, I'm going to write what I want. Things started coming naturally after I stopped trying to put a label on my sound. Once I relieved that stress, the writing process became a very enjoyable adventure. Which song from Daydream Land is your personal favorite and why? What makes the song stand out to you? If I base my favorite on what story I am telling in that song, it is impossible to come up with a favorite. The lyrics are very personal, and each shows a vulnerability of myself that, in a lot of cases, could be deemed hard to let out for everyone to hear. But this is who I am. These songs represent different pieces of my personality. It isn't easy to pinpoint which part of your personality is your favorite. You could quickly figure out what your favorite physical aspect is. It is something that everyone is aware of, including myself. Based on that idea, "Where I Want To Be" would be my favorite physically. I think the song's composition helps tell the story—melodic and beautiful, with a build-up of excitement and a powerful ending. What do you hope listeners experience when listening to Daydream Land? What do you want them to feel and take away from it? I want listeners to relate to what I am trying to say. I want to be able to find common ground among them and myself. To realize that they are not so different from everyone else. There is always common ground between everyone. It doesn't matter what part of their lives they could be in. Each song is emotional, and finding a healthy outlet for letting go of that feeling is essential. We are all out here trying to travel through this absolute shit show. I want to find a place where everyone can come together to be themselves and be proud of who they are and where they've been. Instagram

This isn't just a song; it's a declaration of Morey's unapologetic spirit, and boy, does she wear it well. Originally hailing from Tampa, Florida, Morey's journey began as a songwriter at the tender age of seven, and she took the stage professionally at fifteen. With "Wild," Sarah Morey isn't just making a comeback; she's making a statement—country music has a new firecracker, and her name is Sarah Morey. So, buckle up, let loose, and get ready to go "Wild" with the infectious sounds of a record needing to be heard. We love the energy you bring forth in "Wild." Can you please share more about the moment or story behind the creation of this song? I was initially inspired to write "Wild" because my good friend Bobby Pinson called me "wild!" when I jumped off of a table at a honky tonk at the Muscle Shoals Songwriter Festival. Bobby is one of a few real cowboys I have met since moving to Nashville a little over five years ago. Eventually, they all began to call me wild, and I felt it was proper for who I am, contrary to how I was raised. This release marks your return to the music scene after two years. What prompted this hiatus, and how does it feel to come back with a track as lively and genuine as "Wild?" My last release, "Courtney Drive," was released a little over two years ago, and between now and then, I have been working hard on starting my company, Lucky Money Entertainment. Lucky Money is a Music Row-based company that is "by artists, for artists" and works to get songs heard. The community and team that has come around Lucky Money over the last two years have allowed the "Wild" single release to happen in every way imaginable. I am thankful for the growth that happened during the time between "Courtney Drive" and "Wild," and I look forward to seeing what can be accomplished over the coming years. What theme and imagery are you painting for your audience throughout "Wild"? After two years, does it hold up in terms of the vision you always wanted to bring to life? I hope "Wild" encourages listeners to be their true version. I also poured a ton of neon honky tonk imagery into the song that I hope listeners can feel in the track. It lives up to the Shania-inspired vision I had for the release! How do you infuse your personality and spirit into your music, particularly in this track, and what aspects of your life and experiences contribute to that charm? "Wild" is a testament to where I'm from, where I'm at, and where I'm going. It is a true story of my journey moving from Tampa to Nashville to pursue music. How do you hope your audience connects with the song, and what emotions or reactions are you excited to evoke from them through this spirited anthem? I hope audiences can dance and drink to "Wild" - it was a blast to create, and I am thrilled to share it with listeners! Instagram Facebook

We are both drummers, and it's always great and easy working together to make the music we want to write and record for this project. How does "A Different Kind Of Year" stand out from the rest of your discography? What makes this song unique compared to your previous releases? It's a radio-friendly country-based song. Will you be performing "A Different Kind Of Year" on tour? Might we hear some surprise tracks from your forthcoming sophomore album? Absolutely! I've added a cool and fun ending to the song when playing it live, too… I grew up on Rush, and I'll just leave it at that! How do you hope listeners feel after hearing "A Different Kind Of Year"? • Manic Pixie Dream Girl: Debut Feminist Concept Album From Brea Fournier & The Dream Ballet

Coming in hot from New York City is pop-rock/pop-punk collective Brea Fournier & the Dream Ballet with their conceptual debut album, Manic Pixie Dream Girl! Comprised of Brea Fournier, guitarist Ben Shanblatt, drummer Sophia Bondi, and bassist Noah Rosner, Brea Fournier & the Dream Ballet are best known for their sound, often described as "Joan Jett attitude meets Joni Mitchell lyricism." And that's exactly what we get in their big debut album, Manic Pixie Dream Girl! Recorded with producer Barb Morrison (Franz Ferdinand/Blondie), this new rock opera album is rooted in internal power, chanting lyrics reminiscent of past rock operas like American Idiot and Ziggy Stardust. But this time, Brea Fournier & the Dream Ballet zoom in on unapologetic femininity, showing the audience that Brea is not a shallow archetype for the male gaze but a protagonist of the story she chooses to write. Manic Pixie Dream Girl! opens with the intro track, "Avant-Garde & Totally Unique," featuring Brea Fournier's velvety vocals that calmly yet powerfully express the annoyance felt when others attempt to 'steer her in the right direction.' With a wicked bassline and bright instrumentals that gradually expand, this intro track kicks the album into gear on a note of confidence, certain that she'll discover who she will become and that she requires no one's unsolicited advice. With a seamless transition into track two, "(That Guy You're Talking To)," thanks to Rosner's wicked bass licks, Brea Fournier then goes off into an animated, spirited monologue, a spoken word, if you will. However you see it, it's powerful. She makes one thing clear: she's not here to fulfill your narrative, and she most certainly doesn't live to be your "Manic Pixie Dream Girl," a term in the film industry used to describe stories of boring, monotonous men in search of a free-spirited woman to make it all better. If that's what you're looking for, you won't find it here. Turning up the heat for track number three, "The Masochist," Brea Fournier & the Dream Ballet blast off into this powerful and exciting pop-punk atmosphere reminiscent of Paramore, if it was an 80s band. Brea Fournier's chant-worthy lyrics paired with the band's riveting instrumentals make this story impactful, engaging, and downright danceable. It's a mighty pick-me-up that leads us deeper into this conceptual, feminism-forward album. Strolling down to "Eighth Street" in track number four, Brea Fournier & the Dream Ballet bless our speakers with an easy breezy alternative-rock vibe alongside Brea Fournier's sweet pop-infused vocal melodies. While expressing the story of past lovers who often bump into each other around the neighborhood, Brea dives into her inner emotions, unsure how to feel about ignoring someone she once knew so intimately. But, alas, she walks on by, embracing the power she holds within. Track number five, "(Karma's a Bitch/an Open Letter)," brings us the album's first 30-second interlude. It's a sharp yet sweet reminder that karma is indeed a bitch, and we mustn't go searching for revenge unless the universe guides us there. It ends with an introduction to the next song, which is a letter to Manic Pixie Dream Girl's high school sweetheart, who just so happened to hate country music... And guess what comes flooding through the speakers on track six? A sweet, upbeat country tune dubbed "Not my Soulmate," opening with Brea Fournier & the Dream Ballet's twangy, toe-tapping country instrumentals and Brea's stunning, radiant vocals that sing a message of meaning: just because you 'hit it off' with someone doesn't mean you were lovers in a past life. And it sure as hell doesn't mean they're soulmates. It's a lively country tune that rounds out the album to perfection. Brea Fournier & the Dream Ballet leave our speakers smoking on track seven, "Petty Stuff," kicking off with a scorching punk-inspired instrumental that leads into Brea Fournier's spirited vocals, reminiscent of Olivia Rodrigo's infectious attitude and grit. There are layers of humor infused into this banger, and it's something we all need to hear: just because we sweat the petty stuff doesn't mean we're undeserving of love. That's just how we are. Tough luck; learn to live with it. Landing on the album's title track on spot number eight, "Manic Pixie Dream Girl," Brea Fournier & the Dream Ballet blesses us with their classic pop-punk sound while Brea serenades the speakers with gentle vocals yet meaningful lyrics. She promises to herself that she'll never be the girl to 'settle down unassumingly,' ensuring she'll never become the girl next door without a name. It's an empowering song that assures women everywhere that you're not just someone's "Manic Pixie Dream Girl." You are whatever you choose to be. Keeping the lively pop-punk feel alive is the album's ninth track, "Dowry," pumping through the speakers without a dull moment. Thus far, we are wildly impressed by Brea Fournier's ability to capture the listener's attention with witty, meaningful lyrics and in-depth, relatable stories. And "Dowry" is no exception. It's a powerful, quite hilarious testament that we women live to marry, have kids, and throw our lives away if it means building a family. That narrative is outdated, and we thank Brea Fournier & the Dream Ballet for spreading the word. Reaching the album's second interlude with track number ten, "(the Days and Weeks and Months and Years)," Brea Fournier dives into a personal story. She expresses how the days, weeks, months, and years are blending together, and during that time, she's realized that there's only one person who will stick with her until the end. "She's chock-full of unaddressed trauma, or so her therapist says," explains Brea, emphasizing that all we have is ourselves. With another seamless transition into the next track, "Reality TV," Brea Fournier & the Dream Ballet bless the speakers with an easy-listening pop-rock experience. This time around, Brea Fournier dives into a different, slightly humorous concept. When it comes to "Reality TV," all we want to do is watch our show in peace, alone, and know who's going home this week. There could very well be a deeper meaning behind this track, but at the moment, we're just ready to see who's going home on next week's episode. Here's a topic I know all too well. Jumping into track twelve, "SSRI," Brea Fournier & the Dream Ballet turn up the psychedelic Tame Impala vibes while capturing the listener's undivided attention from the get-go. This track explores a deeper subject, one that touches on mental health, battles with anxiety, and the experience of going off medication. In the simplest words possible, it's not easy, but Brea Fournier & the Dream Ballet express the experience perfectly: the tears, fantasies, confusion, and wondering if this is what true freedom feels like. On track thirteen, we're met with another interlude, but this time, it's even more personal. "(I'm Afraid of Stillness)" features Brea Fournier's spoken voice, diving into themes of distress from the past and fright for the future. But it's in these moments of spiraling into disarray that she realizes she's afraid of stillness. And perhaps afraid of peace too. Jumping into another groovy instrumental on track fourteen, "Nine Of Swords," Brea Fournier & the Dream Ballet brings us into a spirited but introspective pop-rock track. While Brea draws the nine of swords from her tarot deck, she realizes that she's getting exactly what she asked for. All those internal battles, screaming demons, and anxieties for the future will only materialize themselves if we let them - if we give them room to breed and grow. It's a powerful reminder that we are our thoughts. It doesn't get much better than the sweet-sounding introduction on track fifteen, "Dream Ballet," opening with feel-good alt-pop instrumentals that keep the vibes high. Brea Fournier's tender vocals later express that if she achieved her wildest goals, somehow learned to fly, and was soaring above the world, she'd never leave that fever dream...ballet. But, alas, she's drowning her sorrows in Grey Goose and Bourbon, hoping that one day, just one day, she'll fly higher than the rest. The album's final interlude takes place on track sixteen, "(Mosaic)," where Brea Fournier's spoken voice expresses that she is indeed a mosaic, fragments of thousands of perceptions from herself and others. But, along the way, she's certain that the world as we know it will cease to exist, leaving behind empty pill bottles, scattered tarot decks, tutus, and tiaras. Yet, if we promise ourselves to never sacrifice our happiness for someone else, we might just come out unscathed. Landing on the album's seventeenth and final track, "Guts," we're met with the last seamless transition from interlude to song, blessing the speakers with an upbeat acoustic guitar and Brea Fournier's witty, meaningful lyrics. And we agree with her; it takes guts to treat someone like trash and apologize, but we all know that apologies take place when the other party is sad, lonely, and needs a little...womanly touch. Closing with a chilling acapella, this outro track perfectly puts a bow on such a comprehensive, impactful album. We are delighted to have experienced such a detailed, meaningful, and powerful record that perfectly depicts the modern woman's experience, or at least from Brea Fournier's point of view. But we're grateful that we did. Experience it yourself and find Brea Fournier & the Dream Ballet's debut album, Manic Pixie Dream Girl!, on all digital streaming platforms. Instagram

  • Interview: JL the KidD Sheds Moe Light On Latest EP, 'Moe Life'

Welcome, JL the KidD! We loved "Moe Life." what an exciting way to end the year! We had to ask what it was like seeing and hearing the completed project for the first time. Thank you. It's been about two to three years since I was last featured in an article of yours, so the welcome feels well warranted. As for my project, I've had the majority of it completed for around a year now. I never had the courage to release or drive to finish it. A switch flipped in my head earlier this year. I realized there would never be a perfect time to finish or release the project and that I should do it now before I regret never doing it later. What was your favorite part of the creative process of making "Moe Life," and what is your favorite song from the EP? My favorite part of making " MOE LIFE " was meeting talented engineers and artists to help me with this and future endeavors. A key individual to the sound of this mixtape is Swamii, the Producer. Without him, the project might not have been completed. He's also the one who mixed my favorite song on the mixtape, "DIE HO3 ", a ballad of self-reflection, self-indulgence, and self-destruction. What has been your favorite part of your musical journey thus far, and what goals do you still want to accomplish through your music? My favorite part of my musical journey would have to be the references. I love referencing points of interest in my music. The song " FIND OUT " was a direct ode to the song "Want You" by Savage Garden. "JAWBREAKERS," the title, and the contents of the song are references to famous early 2000's cartoons and animation, like Ed, Edd, n Eddy, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Kim Possible, and Star Wars the Clone Wars, to name a few. The song "HOLLOW" references Cardi B's "Bodak Yellow" in the first verse. What do you want your listeners to feel when they hear a JL the KidD release, especially concerning "Moe Life?" For "MOE LIFE" and particularly for the titular song of the same name, My listeners should feel the gravel underneath our feet and understand that the road we've walked is long. We've come so far from OD's and trapping and from reckless behavior that could kill us. The listeners should feel the change I've gone through and that my motives have changed from seeking fame to seeking a better version of myself. What's next for JL the KidD? Can we expect to hear more new music soon, and is there anything you want to say to your fans? If everything goes as planned, then " THE HEARTBREAK KID " mixtape will drop on the next solstice. Things didn't go as planned the first time, and I dropped " MOE LIFE " instead on this solstice. My Ishvalan blood tells me that the solstice is essential for some reason. If I genuinely want better results with myself, it will start on that unique day. Read our full review of 'MOE LIFE' here. Instagram

Releases like 2020’s “Enough” and 2023’s “Hollow” show not only continued artistic evolution but also an expansive vision, and we can’t wait to see which direction this enigmatic artist will take us in next. Culturing the aura of mystique surrounding JL the Kid is as intriguing as it is fitting. Driven by what he describes as an insatiable hunger, JL the KidD began making music to suppress the darkness inside of him, using music to express himself. With his burning ambition and the skills to back it up, he’s ready to do whatever it takes to gain the acknowledgment of the industry, but as he embarked on his musical journey, one thing became clear. Why take a convoluted route to the top when he can blow you out of the water with standout release after release? JL the KidD's latest EP, “Moe Life,” shows the impressive range of an artist who continuously refuses to let himself be put into a box. Simply put, “Moe Life” feels like a musical thriller, as Jhe keeps the listener on their toes with dynamic release after dynamic release. Coming in at ten tracks, “Moe Life” avoids being stale through JL’s ability to sonically shapeshift, feeling confident and larger than life on releases like “Luxury” while showing a steadfast but more vulnerable side on tracks like the opening track “Coffins.” His impressive range is one of his largest strengths, and it serves him well on this EP. His lyrical approach is nothing to scoff at either, dropping lines like “I’ve been empty how do I fill this vacancy / I have been waiting for the answer to that patiently / all your happiness has to be make-believe / because depression is the new taker’s disease” on “Hollow,” one of the album’s standouts. Although 2023 may be drawing to a close, with “Moe Life,” JL the KidD ensures he’s ending the year on an extremely high note. We can’t wait to see what this mysterious yet intriguing talent will show us next. As we disappear into the murky darkness, we’ll await his return. Instagram

  • Anna Duboc Releases “One Touch” Just In Time For Valentine's Day

Taking the indie music scene by storm is singer-songwriter and recording artist Anna Duboc with her long-awaited single, just in time for Valentine's week, titled "One Touch." Anna Duboc is nothing short of a threat in today's indie space. Not only has she generated over 45 million streams across all streaming platforms, but she's proved her collaborative capabilities by pairing up with sought-after producers like Juan Ariza (Harry Styles), as is the case for her latest hit, "One Touch." Having performed alongside stars like Katy Perry, Kenny Loggins, and Andrea Bocelli, Anna Duboc is ready to make waves of her own, and her recent single calls for a tsunami. It's an incredibly catchy, playful, and cathartic song that impressively was written at 14 years old. But having grown past a teen's vulnerability, she's ready to release it. "One Touch" starts with stunning acoustic guitar picking alongside Anna Duboc's warm and tender vocals, expressing how the little things make all the difference. As the instrumentals and production gradually expand with a sweet pop undertone, Duboc leads us to the catchy hook while her soft vocal harmonies high-five the soul. It's an incredibly dynamic song that keeps you on your toes with each beat. What's interesting are Anna Duboc's vocal similarities, particularly her falsetto, to pop icons like Billie Eilish. It's a soothing, irresistible, alluring vibe catapulting her career to stardom. If one thing's for sure, Duboc knows exactly what resonates with her audience: a dynamic, feel-good, relatable song that appreciates the simple things in life. When you're after pop that speaks to the soul, check out Anna Duboc's impressive discography and never look back. Find "One Touch" on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here. We're thrilled to discuss your mega-catchy single, "One Touch." Did you really write your lyrics at the age of 14? Are there any differences between the original version and the one you've released now? Yes, I did write both the lyrics and melody when I was 14, and there haven't been any other versions since the original, so yes, it is the original version. I just never released it. I was too close to the song's emotions and put it aside for a while. What inspired you to write "One Touch"? Can you remember the age of 14 and recall what pushed you to create it? It was about realizing you like someone in a different way. Still, you constantly question whether it's a good idea to risk the friendship and try for something more. More than friends, let's say. In this case, it was someone who was not a good choice. What was your experience co-producing "One Touch" with producer Juan Ariza? How did he help bring the song to life? This is the second song I wrote with Ariza and the second time I collaborated with anyone. I was used to writing songs myself. He was very encouraging and easy to work with. We started it at his studio, and we were supposed to finish the song together in his studio. Still, for several reasons, we were not able to. So, we did a Zoom session to finish it, and I sang the vocals in my home studio and finished it there. Why did you feel Valentine's week was the perfect time to finally release "One Touch?" Does it set the playful mood? In a way, it's a romantic song about the first time you start to crush on someone. So, it is a perfect song for Valentine's Day. Now that I no longer have the same feelings for the person I wrote it about, I can release it and hope others can relate and enjoy the mood of it. What's next for you, Anna? I perform at Genghis Cohen on Feb 3rd in Los Angeles and will perform as Velma in "Chicago" in April with the Adderley Conservatory. I plan to do more live shows as well. I love performing, but I am also a junior in High school and taking 4 AP courses, so I am swamped. I will continue to release a few more "unreleased" songs from my earlier days and new ones. I will collaborate with new people this summer and look forward to what may come. Instagram Facebook
