We loved "Can't Hold Me Back"; it felt uplifting yet catchy simultaneously! What was the inspiration behind this release, and could you take us through the creative process for it too? Hey, Legends! Thanks for having me, and I'm glad you loved the track! "Can't Hold Me Back" is a bit of a song to myself, and writing it helped me through some of the darkest days of my life. If you've been following my journey so far, you'd know one of my best mates, Frankie, was murdered a couple of years ago, and I didn't deal with what happened and the events that followed adequately at the time. I ended up breaking down and getting diagnosed with PTSD, which led to extreme anxiety and depression. I took a break from music to work on my mental and physical health but kept trying to write new music while I had stepped away from it. Back then, I couldn't write in my home studio as when I got the news about Frankie; I had just sat down to write there, so it took me a long time to get back in that space. This led me to make several trips down to Melbourne to write with one of my producers, Cam Bluff; it was great, I'd stay at his, and we'd hang out and write and record music. This was where 'Can't Hold Me Back' was born. We were having breaky, and Cam was showing me some different instrumental ideas he had when one tiny bit of rhythm guitar hooked me in, and I just sang "Can't Hold Me Back!" I grabbed my acoustic guitar, strummed some chords, and we wrote the whole song in less than half an hour, haha. We jumped in the studio to record and got it down, but we felt it could be bigger and didn't have the resources to get it there. So, the next month I jumped on a plane to Adelaide and produced it with another one of my producers, Ash Gale, at Skye Studios. Live instruments and about a million vocal tracks later, the song was taken back to Cam in Melbourne for some final touches, mixing, and mastering, and 'Can't Hold Me Back' was done. Tada! Haha You mentioned that you've been doing music for a long time. How did you first get into it? Were you exposed to a lot of good music growing up? Yeah, it's been a while, haha. I first knew I wanted to get into it when I was eight. A kid, a couple of years older than me, had a guitar on the bus ride home and would play it and let me have a go, teaching me some stuff. I knew I needed my own from then, so I kept asking for one for birthdays and Christmas'. Mum finally caved and got me one when I was ten, haha. From there, I taught myself to play, then started a band with some mates in high school to perform in the school Battle of the Bands comp. I couldn't sing to save myself back then, but we were only doing covers of Pop Punk bands, so I thought I'd put my hand up to sing. After that, I got into singer-songwriter music like The Script and practiced more and more to become a better singer. Then I put up a few covers on YouTube, landed some pub gigs, and kept going from strength to strength. I was definitely exposed to a lot of music growing up, both good and bad, and I still listen to everything these days, even the terrible songs. You can always learn something from it, haha. So far, what's been your favorite thing about being a musician and putting out your music? This is a tough one; there are so many different aspects to being a musician and so many "Pinch me" moments so far, but I think my favorite would have to be the response from fans listening to my music for the first time. For most of my songs, I like to write inspiring, uplifting music in the hope that it might help someone through a hard time or inspire them to go further and chase their dreams. So having people reach out and tell me their stories of how my music played a part in their life is so surreal, and there's nothing better. Do you have a favorite musical memory or performance? Also, how would you describe your music to someone who hasn't heard it before? One of my favorite performance memories is from a few years ago when I put on a single launch show in my hometown in an abandoned bar just before heading over to the US on tour. We loaded in a huge stage set up, lights, sound, and complete band kit, the works and tickets were only available at the door, so we had no idea how many people would turn up. The whole place was packed, and so tight I just remembered how hot and sweaty it was there. We started playing, and my foldback blew up in the first song as someone spilled their beer on it, and I couldn't hear myself the whole set, but the show went on. It was the wildest show I'd ever played, and everyone in there was having the best night of their life from what I could see on stage. I always try to make my live shows as big as possible, and that show was one where everyone in the room was having the time of their life. As for describing my music to someone, once you listen to it, it might get stuck in your head. I love writing fun, super catchy hooks, so listeners, beware you might get stuck with me once you have a listen. But other than that, just good catchy Pop Singer/songwriter music that will get your toes tapping and your body moving. What's next for MAXO? Can we expect to hear more new music soon, and is there anything you'd like to say to your fans? Yeah, I've got some big plans in the pipeline and big announcements coming soon! More new music will come this year, and a lot more touring next year, both here in Australia and overseas! To my fans, thank you for sticking with me and allowing me to be part of your life. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't be able to do what I love. Hope to see you all soon! Instagram Facebook
- Indie Musician Dua Saleh Stuns As the Face of 2023 Sunglass Hut X HYPEBEAST Collaboration
Celebrity and fashion collaborations are not uncommon. For fashion brands, working with artists or celebrities to develop or rework products is a great way to appeal to a new audience. Brands like Vogue Eyewear have collaborated with Hailey Bieber to recreate the brand's classic silhouettes while retaining their iconic looks. At the same time, collaborations allow these celebrities to showcase their style. Recently, indie musician, poet, and actor Dua Saleh worked with eyewear retailer Sunglass Hut to put their fashion twist on the brand's latest eyewear line. In partnership with HYPEBEAST, the brand developed the all-new HYPEBEAST Curated Selection that features customized avant-garde sunglasses from luxury labels such as Giorgio Armani, Ray-Ban, Versace, and Oakley. One of the highlights of the Curated Selection is the rectangular shades from Versace that feature neon purple frames and yellow-tinted lenses. The collaboration is a celebration of self-expression, as styled by Dua Saleh. Of course, Dua Saleh's approach to fashion is also often an exploration of eclectic and indigenous self-expression. They are often seen experimenting with redefined Y2K aesthetics, including gender-neutral workwear and outwear combined with sporty streetwear elements. Dua Saleh’s Music Career Dua Saleh is a Sudanese-American genre-defying artist. In 2021, they released their EP titled CROSSOVER — a blend of warehouse and club music highlighting their background as a poet through lyrics on identity and rebirth. Like their collaboration with Sunglass Hut, Dua Saleh is no stranger to working with collaborators outside their comfort zone. For CROSSOVER, they had worked with certified pop producers, horrorcore rapper Haleek Maul, and rapper/singer Duckwrth. In the spirit of collaborations, Dua Saleh also previously worked with indie R&B artist Billy Lemos for his recently released EP Control Freak. The collection of anti-pop songs includes the track Concentrate — featuring Dua Saleh's vibrant vocal styling over hypnotic nuances. Acting and Fashion Endeavors Aside from their music, Dua Saleh has also crossed over to the acting world. In 2021, they joined the cast of Netflix's Sex Education as non-binary stoner Cal. The series, made by cis people, successfully brought depth to the character and their transness. While working on their music, the show producers had reached out to Saleh's manager, asking them to audition for the role. Afterward, they got an acting coach to help guide them through the next two auditions until eventually getting officially cast in the role. Like their Sunglass Hut eyewear collaboration, Dua Saleh brought their flair to their first foray into acting. The Sex Education writing team had a non-binary consultant beforehand but wanted them to be comfortable on set and with the show's themes. The team asked Saleh questions throughout the process, helping them with the script, and had a consultant on set for trans-specific scenes like the binding sequence. Whether through music, acting, or fashion, Dua Saleh continues to explore their fascination with themes such as identity and transness through their art, creating space to dismantle traditional and stereotypical representations in media. Dua Saleh enjoys animated shows like She-Ra and Jujitsu Kaisen outside of doing their work. In a time when representation is most needed, they commended She-Ra's ability to show a non-binary character — an alien named Double Trouble — even if it didn't go in-depth about their identity. - Scoville Unit Is On the Rise With Their Latest Release “Firepit”
From the heart of New Jersey, Scoville Unit introduces a unique flavor to the indie rock scene. Formed by college friends Drew Isleib and Gandhar Savur, the group embodies their diverse musical backgrounds. Savur brings punk-influenced melodies, shaped by his tenure with El Secondhand, which pair seamlessly with Isleib's bass mastery and acoustic songwriting. Adding to the unit are lead guitarist Kevin Shelbourne and drummer Rob Hunsicker, each adding their own flair to the mix. Their latest release, "See What Can Be," is a medley of musical narratives which features their newest single, "Firepit." "Firepit" is a nostalgic journey into the memory of backyard gatherings around a warm fire. The song's melody, accented by 50s-inspired guitar riffs and rhythmic drum patterns, encapsulates the tales shared amongst friends, romantic dilemmas, and the bittersweet allure of the past. All this is chased down with a swig of whiskey, a fitting metaphor for the warmth and intimacy that the song evokes. The song's bridge section adds a touch of psychedelia, creating a hazy late-night ambiance that further immerses listeners into the story. Scoville Unit has created a corresponding music video and the song's release. The footage, viewed through the lens of a vintage camcorder, invites viewers to share a fireside evening with the band. As the night progresses, the footage morphs into a colorful, psychedelic kaleidoscope, reflecting the auditory journey of the song itself. "Firepit" is available now on all streaming platforms. Hi Scoville Unit, and welcome to BuzzMusic. We really enjoyed listening to "Firepit." Can you walk us through the production process and how this release came together? Gandhar Savur: When we originally wrote the song, it was based around a simple acoustic riff, but as we were recording it, we played with the rhythmic elements of it and really focused on that. We also tried to make the arrangement trippier as the song progressed. The idea is that a night around a fire with friends tends to get hazier as you get into the later hours of the evening… so we wanted to allow the song to take that same journey. This song evolved a lot from the initial sketches to the finished product. Still, I suppose that is the fun of not being in a rush to record - you get to throw ideas around and see what sticks. The song is the third single of our new album, See What Can Be, released in June. We have been working on writing and recording the album since the pandemic and are very happy to now have the album out there in the world. We also have a video for "Firepit," a visual collage of us hanging around a firepit all night, playing our instruments, etc. There was no script for the video; it was basically - here is some wood, a match, a case of beer, and a couple of guitars; do your thing, and we'll film it. Our video director magically turned that into a very cool video. How have your musical backgrounds and tastes influenced the sound of the band? GS: All four of us have different musical backgrounds, but there is a tasty bubblegum center in the Venn diagram of the Scoville Unit. Drew is a true coffee-shop-styled singer-songwriter; he has toured the country numerous times with just an acoustic guitar - something I could never do myself. I personally have always been a band guy. Musically I like many different stuff, but The Beatles are my most considerable influence. I generally like simple stuff with very strong melodies and harmonies. But I also grew up playing in punk bands, and that influence makes its way into a lot of our stuff; it's not punk exactly, but it's just slightly harder and faster than your typical indie band. Kevin grew up as a metalhead guitarist and can play most songs by Slayer, Iron Maiden, and Megadeth note for note. We are lucky that he graces us with his presence in this band- he probably does it because he secretly has a huge soft spot for Oasis (Whoops, sorry, Kevin - the secret's out!). And Rob is one of those guys who say, "I like everything," and actually means it. He would be just as happy playing drums in a commercial pop band or pretty much any other genre- but he grew up playing indie rock and punk, so playing our style of rock is no problem for him, and we're very lucky to have him in the band as well. What do you hope listeners take away from "Firepit?" GS: Sitting around a fire with friends has always been one of my favorite things, particularly when we wrote this album; we were all doing much of that. We wanted to create a song that gives people that same fun, sentimental feeling of a night around a fire, sharing stories and memories with friends and loved ones. If your music were a season, which one would it be? GS: This album would be summer. We wanted this album to be light, carefree, and fun. We're not trying to make an artistic statement or redefine rock and roll. This album was created through friendship and good times, and hopefully, that shines through in the tunes. What's next for Scoville Unit? GS: Lots more shows to support the record. We've also got a couple of exciting tour opportunities in the works, and hopefully, those will pan out. And then it's on to the next album! Instagram Twitter
- Alanna Royale Emerges From Her Journey Of Self-Discovery To Bring Us Her New Release, “Run Around”
The Nashville singer balances the darkness with light and vitality on her new release. Amid the global pandemic’s chaos, Alanna Royale embarked on an extraordinary cross-country adventure from Nashville to the sun-soaked landscapes of California. Little did she know that this transformative journey would birth her highly anticipated album, “Trouble Is,” set to release on October 6. Delving deep into her psyche, the talented singer-songwriter found solace in therapy, unearthing profound truths about herself that would shape the album’s raw and revelatory essence. Reflecting on her personal growth, Royale says, “Sometimes you have to fall apart to find the most real version of yourself.” With this profound message and truth fresh in her mind, she unleashed her creative spirit, allowing herself to craft an album that resonated with her honest, authentic voice. Liberated from the constraints of societal artistic expectations, “Trouble Is” is the follow-up to Royale’s captivating prior releases “So Bad You Can Taste It” and “Achilles.” Utilizing a beautiful sound that borrows from the timeless quirks of soul and blues, the album transparently navigates periods of personal struggle and acceptance through lyrics and vocals that sometimes speak to your soul. “Run Around,” Royale’s herald of choice for the good things to come on “Trouble Is,” could not have been a perfect introduction to her new musical era. Produced by Kelly Finnigan of the mesmerizing psychedelic soul band Monophonics, “Run Around” is anchored by a lush and simply exquisite instrumental performance that begins with a catchy little jingle on the piano before the drums and guitar provide a catchy, soul-infused rhythm that draws the best out of Royale’s already impressive vocal performance. As Royale sings, “I wanna ride with you, I’ll waste my time with you,” there’s a feeling that good times are ahead despite life’s ups and downs. “Run Around” offers a jubilant and exuberant soundscape that perfectly contrasts with the themes of personal struggles and triumph Alanna Royale skillfully navigates, both now and on her new album “Trouble Is.” Whenever you’re ready, tap in and stream Alanna Royale’s latest release, “Run Around,” available now on all major streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Alanna Royale! We're addicted to your new single "Run Around" — the positivity and good vibes you brought on this one now gives us life! You mentioned that introspection played a significant role in your new music. Is the song about a particular past or current relationship? Thank you so much!!! This song is about when my friend was sure that a guy I was hanging out with was not into me. They got in my head! We talked constantly, going everywhere together, and he made me feel happier than any other person I had ever been with. It broke my heart to think that I was wrong about them ultimately, but after much thought, I completely went for it. I just rode that feeling, and guess what? SHE WAS WRONG. There was a solid connection there, which turned into something beautiful. You did a phenomenal job on the music video. It brings us back! Where did you draw inspiration from? What are some of your favorite music videos today and from when you were a teenager? My inspiration came from the utterly in-the-moment feeling of my youth - before you become an adult and have a more challenging time trusting your instincts. The video feels free because that's how I felt when I was younger. No concerns for tomorrow or what came before - just entirely doing whatever felt good. Some of my favorite music videos of my childhood would be "The Rain" by Missy, of course, "Army of Me" by Bjork, and "Freetime" by Kenna. Today I'd say some of my favorites would include "Lonely World" by Moses Sumney (anything by Moses Sumney, honestly) and the Little Simz video for "Gorilla" she just released. Your forthcoming record, Trouble Is, is slated for release on October 6th! What was your favorite part about seeing your vision for this project come to life, and are there any other songs from this project you're incredibly excited to share with your fans? I worked on this record through the pain and misery of the pandemic, so the high point was the last day of mixing when I knew we had finished the undertaking of this album. Other highlights include: Some of my favorite musicians joined me in the studio. Hitting notes, I've never shot before. Knowing that I made something brutally honest. It's a joint release from Trash Casual and SoulStep Records. How did you link up with those labels, and how did this arrangement come about? I'm an extreme extrovert, so it is not hard for me to meet people. I had known of both of these labels and the super dope folks who run them and after shopping my record around, it struck me that I already knew some great teams of people to work with. Both labels offered me the support and resources I needed, and it naturally came to us that we could all join forces and give this record the release it deserved. I'm so grateful! How did you first get started in music? Was it something you always knew you wanted to do as a child? I live for performing. As a kid, I sang, danced, acted, and, unfortunately for my mother, acted up in class constantly. Music took hold at a young age for me as a singer via pop music on the radio and old-school R&B on my mom's stereo. Then came theatre and punk and post-punk music when I was a teenager. Looking back, I was deeply affected by music at a young age. I understood "Midnight Train to Georgia" and Thursday's "Understanding In A Car Crash." What would you want it to be if your fans could take one thing away from your new music? These are true stories of my fans who took only one thing away from my new music. These are real experiences, whether mine or those I've witnessed, but I'm not the only one. We're all familiar with the feelings I've come up against, and while there is some significant pain involved, I want everyone to know that there is a place of healing we can all reach. It's a long, treacherous road, but it's possible. Do you have any advice for young artists that would like to be like you? My universal advice for any young artist is to surround yourself with other artists who are more experienced than you as opposed to feeling threatened by their skills and knowledge or, worse, shame that you don't know as much. It's always good to have a crew of people you can learn and grow with together so y'all can share resources, but there is so much to learn from folks who have been at it longer than you or might know a little more. Trust me; it'll get you leaps and bounds ahead of where you'd be by just trying to go at it alone. Thanks for taking the time to chat with us! Would you like to shout out to anyone who's helped you along your journey? Wow, where would I even start?! Everyone I have ever worked with has helped me in some way - even the bad experiences. I grew up with someone, was supported by someone, or learned a hard lesson (these instances were hard to get through), and I'm grateful for it all. Without a doubt, I can thank my creative partners, Jared Colby and Kelly Finnigan, for helping me write and shape this record into its final form - THANK YOU GUYS!!!! Instagram Twitter
- Summer Is Sounding "Super Delicious" Thanks To Megan Vice
The New-York born, LA-based singer, songwriter, and advocate is craving something sweet. One day, deep in the pulsating heart of New York City, a star was born. Megan Vice, an artist who can only be described as a whirlwind of positive musical energy, has broken down barriers and crashed through glass ceilings to establish herself as a bonafide Pop star. Now residing in the City of Angels, she’s swiftly risen to prominence with her captivating, soulful vocals and ear for irresistibly dancy disco-funk bangers. When you also throw in her effortlessly brilliant lyricism and ability to find grooves that set souls ablaze, you end up with an artistic experience that is both one-of-a-kind and not to be missed. As a seasoned and accomplished performer, Vice has graced stages alongside industry luminaries like Sofi Tukker, St. Lucia, and even the legendary Wyclef Jean, showing her ability to captivate audiences as easily on the scene. Just as strong a writer as a musician, she’s also written and designed songs for the iconic RuPaul’s Drag Race, David LaChapelle, and even FLOTUS Michelle Obama’s non-profit. If you haven’t guessed already, Vice’s talent is practically boundless, and her dedication to her music and using it as an uplifting source of good has made it impossible not to cheer her on as she propels herself to stardom. Apart from being an ally and advocate of the queer community, she also heads a feminist movement called “Death To Ageism,” a space that advocates and fights to end the gendered ageism rampant in the music and entertainment industries. In “Super Delicious,” both the namesake of her sophomore EP and a captivating single in its own right, Vice continues redefining the boundaries of her artistry and advocating for respect, love, and acceptance for all. Although it’s been a minute since she released it, Pride Month is the perfect time to revisit this timeless release. Featuring a music video that shows members of the queer community freely expressing themselves and having fun by the seashore, Vice’s melodic, disco-funk grooves once again melt your worries away as the music makes you dance. As she drops lyrics like “Every time I say I’ma do it different / Find myself right back in the same position /No surprise because you’re super delicious,” Vice’s pure, euphoric energy ensures “Super Delicious” doesn’t only encourage you to dance, it enables you to sing. Megan Vice has managed to become both a musical force for good and a radiant star whose brilliance knows no bounds. Whenever you’re ready to lose yourself on the dance floor, tap in and stream “Super Delicious,” available on all major streaming platforms, and experience Megan Vice, the disco-funk supernova ready to ignite your soul and make you move like never before. We loved the sound and video for “Super Delicious.” It’s so catchy and danceable! We wanted to ask, what was it like shooting the music video for it? How did “Super Delicious” even come to be? The "Super Delicious" video was actually completely impromptu! I'd initially written a couple treatments that were to be shot in studio, but then I went to Fire Island for the first time to celebrate a friend's birthday, a and the energy was just so silly and so fun and so fucking FREE that I was like ok bitch we're scrapping all that because THIS is the video, this vibe right here! With just an iPhone and a vision, I started filming me and my friends all weekend having a good time! Partying, doing our makeup, dancing on the beach dressed in ridiculous costumes, and then I thought to have a few of them say "SUPER DELICIOUS" into the camera so that I could sync those clips to the song in post. Florence Given recently coined the term "living deliciously," which I absolutely love, and I am absolutely certain the reason why this music video is such a delight to watch is because it captures people doing exactly that, living deliciously! SUPER deliciously So you’re pretty vocal with showing your different advocacies. You mentioned you run a space called “Death To Ageism” how did that happen, and what does “Death To Ageism” mean to you? Death To Ageism is a space I created at the beginning of this year with the intention of abolishing gendered ageism towards women in the music industry and to inspire a community of women who feel like their time is running out! The only thing running out of time is this archaic narrative. I'm 33 years-young, and I've had men in the industry tell me I should start hiding my age before I was even 27!!! TWENTY-SEVEN! I constantly hear things from men like "wow it's great you look so young because it's more marketable!"... and it's like... MORE MARKETABLE TO WHO, EXACTLY?? Pedophiles? Jeffrey Epstein?! People in their 30s+ don't listen to music or consume art?? Make it make sense... explain it to me like I'm five... This misogynistic, patriarchal narrative has been beaten into us since the inception of celebrity, and the only reason why it is still happening in 2023 is because we as women have been conditioned to believe it, so we either give up or we play into it by lying about our real age to appear younger to the public, which only fuels the narrative that the patriarchy wants to uphold. So many women I know in music, myself included, have all experienced emotional breakdowns feeling like we were getting too old to pop by age 25, and it's really just so fucking ridiculous. I don't want any more young girls in music ageing with dread. I want young girls to age with joy, gratitude and excitement about their futures as creatives. You know, like how boys and men are allowed to. Death To Ageism is a universal call to all women in music, entertainment, TV & film globally to come together. We must wake up as a collective to the understanding that our voices currently hold more power than ever in human history. Period. Fact. Full stop. Reread that sentence and wholly absorb it. It's not the 90's anymore!! Artists don't need record labels the way we used to, so why are we still feeding into these bullshit crusty-ass ideologies like we used to?? It stops now cuz *PLOT TWIST BABES* beep beep now WE got the keys to the jeep, vroooooom! The more women artists, musicians, actors, and entertainers that start publicly and proudly disclosing their real ages, the less power this narrative will have on us, eventually rendering it fully obsolete! Death To Ageism represents the reclamation of a women's divine right to age, and be seen, to create art and be respected and appreciated in all of our forms in an industry that has historically not allowed us to. You’ve graced the stage for many different luminaries including yourself. Do you have any performances that you can say stand out in your mind as your favorite? What was your favourite performance like? My favorite performance was when I played in Tokyo a few years ago! My music is popular within dance communities throughout Asia and so a couple dance crews traveled all the way from Osaka (like 5 hours out of town!) just to attend the show and to dance for me, it was incredible and brought me to tears. This was my first time in Japan and my first time performing outside of the country, so it was such a surreal experience to see people in the audience knowing all the words to my songs. I love my Japanese fans so much and can't wait to come back! What does music mean to you as an artist and person? As an artist, what motivates you to continue making music? Music to me is a medium that we use to express, as well as to feel the full spectrum of human emotion, which is why so many different genres exist! There is a type of sound attached to every bit of energy you can possibly imagine! As an artist what motivates me to continue making music is the life experience. I transmute my feelings into song. I'm a Cancer sun, Cancer moon, AND a Cancer venus so I've got a lot of feelings, too many if you ask me (or literally anyone who knows me), but thankfully making music is a healing outlet for me that has always been a natural part of my existence, like breathing. I must breathe to live, and the same goes for making music. What has been the favorite part of your musical journey so far, and as you look to the future, is there anything you want to say to your fans? (Also, can we expect more new music soon?) My favorite part of my musical journey so far is just seeing how much my style and sound have evolved over the years. It's a beautiful thing to look back on. For my fans, I just want to say thank you for existing and as for new music, I'm currently finishing up a very special EP and I cannot wait to share it with you guys!! Instagram Twitter

- Ak Stella Is “Running With Ghosts”
AK Stella is an LA-based alternative artist, kicking off her career in the music industry with her distinctive sound and evocative lyrics. From a young age, Stella performed in various ensembles as a violinist, pianist, and percussionist. At 16, she published her first piece of poetry, showcasing her affinity for literature. She draws from various influences that fuel her mischievous spirit, from Rage Against the Machine to No Doubt and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Her latest release, "Running With Ghosts," further explores these diverse inspirations and her dark musical aesthetic. "Running With Ghosts" presents an exploration of confronting adversity. The lyrics speak of walking through the chaos and facing conflict, signifying personal battles. They illustrate the persona of a "king who doesn't know peace," suggesting the relentless energy within the protagonist. These themes are a testament to AK Stella's desire to empower her listeners to embrace their strength, urging them to take risks. The haunting vocals, cold-toned melody, and firm performance create an unsettling yet captivating atmosphere, which mirrors the angst-ridden theme of the song. Stella's layered lyrics, echoing drums, and electric guitar chords add depth to the composition, enhancing the track's eerie aura. Despite the ominous undertones, the chorus picks up energy, reflecting the protagonist's resilient spirit. It's an auditory exhibition that beautifully portrays the artist's inner strength and ability to make peace with her ghosts. Get this one onto your earbuds today and start "Running With Ghosts," available everywhere now. Welcome to BuzzMusic, AK Stella, and congratulations on your latest release, "Running With Ghosts." What was your journey like transitioning from playing in orchestras to becoming a solo artist? It was a long one. Certain things like knowing rhythm, scales, and harmonies translate well into any music venture, but knowing I'm creating something entirely new from my soul is a feeling I've never experienced in an orchestra setting. My whole childhood had been spent playing other people's music; it took me almost ten years to realize I could write my songs until a friend said, "Hey, you write poetry and play music; you should write your songs." That just goes to show how critical perspective is. How has living in Los Angeles influenced your music and style? It's influenced it quite a bit. Growing up in a Southern Christian family, I wasn't allowed to listen to non-Christian or classical music or go to concerts until my parents divorced when I was 14. After that, I naturally went the polar opposite and got involved in the hardcore/metal scene in my hometown, and yes, I was a scene/Tumblr kid. Today I listen to all types of music, but LA introduced me to collaboration and live music on another level than I was used to. It is an artist's city and constantly inspires me to push the boundaries of music and my comfort zone. Can you share the significance of the title "Running with Ghosts?" I wrote Running with Ghosts while I was in a dark place a few years ago. Life crumbled around me, I was isolated due to the pandemic, and I didn't have a great support system then. My imagination is pretty active, and when I'm experiencing intense emotions, I always gravitate towards writing about situations where I have more control. In this case, I imagined myself as a she-king going to battle against evil with a horde of warrior ghosts at my side. It was my way of feeling not-so-alone. Now the song reminds me that anything can be overcome, even if it doesn't seem possible at that moment. What message or overarching theme do you hope listeners will take away from your music? I want listeners to be empowered and feel like they can do and be anything. Some people may think that concept is naive, but I think those self-limiting thoughts are the most dangerous to our society. People should be doing what they love or what gives them purpose; there's nothing wrong with that as long as they aren't hurting anyone. Can you tell us more about your plans for the future? What can your listeners expect next? Yes! I have more single releases on the way and an EP release on Oct. 6 (the day before my bday). I'm just starting, so listeners can expect more growth from me artistically. I have so many ideas my head feels like it will explode, but I'm looking to expand and integrate my music with other art forms, including a video game, in the future. Instagram TikTok
- Connect With Daniel Vaughan’s Heart Wrenching Single, “Somebody”
Hailing from Gainsboro, North Carolina, Daniel Vaughan has brought forth another sensual single to absorb. Released July 3, 2023, it seems to be an addition to a slew of singles leading towards a rumored second installment of his EP "Lofi Songs." Before we get too excited, let's thoroughly soak in the topic of the moment, his refreshing single, "Somebody." Daniel Vaughan's sound is an eclectic blend of R&B, Vaporwave, Lofi Hop, and Pop. These new sounds compliment his lyricism that shines through on "Somebody." It is an ode to an almost sinful love. Daniel seems to be battling between genuine connection and infatuation, where he is not convinced that this significant other is his "Somebody." Poetic excerpts such as "Making love in sin, looking for answers to find out you're not who you are, but you make me believe, you are my somebody," emphasize these emotions. In addition to the songwriting, the melody-riddled R&B vocal performance pulls these feelings to the forefront of the record, accentuating his influences. Daniel's continual growth and improvement in all areas are notable, as his songwriting, production value, and vocal performances have been on a steady incline and show no signs of stopping. Introspect on love, lust, and superficial connection with Daniel Vaughan's' heart-wrenching new single, "Somebody," out everywhere now. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Daniel Vaughan! "Somebody" is a beautiful record, the mesh of genres you've created is a vibe, and the song's subject hits deep. What does your creative process entail for the making of this poetic track? Thank you so much! So, I wrote "Somebody" in January. I had just released my first EP several months before and wanted to write more music. I began browsing Beatstars at the suggestion of my co-worker, who's also an artist. So taking his advice, I browsed through the website to see what would eventually catch my ear, and I came across a track by this producer that goes by the name of Gus the Beatmaker, who specializes in "artist" type beats, which included Tyler, The Creator, Dominic Fike, and Steve Lacy. Musically, I was at a point where I wanted to try something different, and after listening to the track multiple times, the lyrics started to come very naturally. I wrote drafts both at home and at work. I often had to sneak away from my desk so no one could hear me record lines on my phone. And with what I had come up with, I would record in the makeshift studio in my bedroom. The lyrics I wrote were primarily based on something I experienced before the song's inception. The first line that came to mind was "Where are you going?" which I thought was a strong opener because the feelings I felt at the time were terrifying, and I've never felt that way about anyone, and I kept asking myself if it was real, which begged the question, "Are you, my somebody?" What advice would you give someone experiencing a similar relationship to the one unfolding in "Somebody?" Take the risk of seeing where that relationship can go. Whether the outcome is good or bad, it's an experience nevertheless, and any experience is an opportunity. I say that because not only does it help give new perspectives and set up preparation for the next event, but it also provides growth opportunities. Do you yearn for true love currently, or is more healing still taking place? Both. I can honestly admit that to myself. Love is beautiful, and I truly believe someone is there for everyone. But I feel it's truly important for any individual, including myself, to learn to love themselves first before anyone else can. Healing takes time, and it's okay to take the time to do that. We know your involvement in the "Bad Art Collective" in the Greensboro area. How has being part of this collective influenced your artistic direction? The collective is an amalgamation of many creatives, not just musicians. The collective was conceived last year, and what makes it so great is that I got to reconnect with the collective leader. We went to school together growing up. Just seeing how far she's grown as a person and as an artist is very inspiring. And seeing how hard every one of the members of the collective work to find ways to express their creativity motivates me to try new things and express myself in ways I never would've imagined. Will the release of the second installment of "Lofi Songs" continue the sonic direction of "Somebody?" You know, it actually would be cool to do that. Bedroom pop is like the cousin of Lofi Hip Hop, so they're not too far out of range with each other. I've already recorded a few demos, but I think incorporating the bedroom pop elements into Lofi Songs 2 would be cool. Instagram Facebook
- Fred Waves Casts His Worries Away In “Feel It in My Bones”
The Swedish musician continues to impress with another strong release. Fred Waves, the brainchild of Berlin-based Swedish musician and producer Fredrik Sundqvist, is an indie rock project that has been well in the making for the past five years. Although the project's origins are rooted in Sundqvist's hometown of Katrineholm in Sweden, it would only fully take shape during the pandemic, finding its creative footing first in Berlin, then later in Florida. Having already garnered significant buzz with his standout debut single "Take My Time" last December, the young maestro looks to build on his already impressive resume with his new release "Feel It in My Bones." Fred Waves' journey has been a vibrant and dynamic one. From his formative years playing in local Swedish bands, Fred's insatiable appetite for everything musical allowed him to mature as a musician far earlier than most. Having sunk his teeth into the music scenes in Sweden, Berlin, and Florida, he also honed his live skills, aspiring to be the best musical version of himself. Having spent significant time penning and writing his music since 2019, Fred is finally ready to release his music on his terms, and we can't wait to see what else he has in store. "Feel It in My Bones," Waves' latest creation, is another striking testament to his musical genius. As expected, the instrumentals are perfectly organized, with a soft, comforting guitar opening the song and a similarly soothing drum performance. Waves' vocals feel like an intimate confession, dropping lines like "I feel like we should pop our bottles and spray / We're insignificant anyway" and "I think it's time I throw my worries away / I guess I don't need 'em" with a cadence that speaks straight to your soul. Although it's a little early, the future for someone with Waves' talent seems incredibly bright. "Feel It In My Bones" is a dreamy, reflective anthem that harkens back to the essence of Fred Waves' indie-rock ethos. Whenever you're ready, tap in and stream "Feel It In My Bones" by Fred Waves, available now on all major streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Fred Waves! We loved “Feel It In My Bones”; what an incredible performance! We had to ask; you noted that the creative process for this song took place in a couple of different countries, right? What did your favorite part of seeing your vision for this release come together? Thank you so much; very glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, that’s right. I go where the music takes me, which has been to several places. My favorite part of the process must have been to see the dynamics and the energy of the song change when it went from being played by me alone with sampled drums and bass to being played by the whole band that is now creating the sound of this project. I’m very happy to have been working on this with such highly dedicated people! You’ve been exposed to a couple of different music scenes during your travels. Which scene would you call your favorite and why? They’re so different it’s hard to pick one. I loved being in Florida and seeing how alive the music scene is. It was a great experience playing 4-hour gigs, sometimes two gigs in one day, and learning what high-energy live music is all about. Right now, however, I feel very much at home in the cultural jungle of Berlin. There’s endless inspiration here, and the city still surprises me after years. What’s been your favorite part of your musical journey so far? Without a doubt, all the shows I’ve played sharing the stage with brilliant musicians from all over the world. It never gets old. How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard it before, and if listeners could take one thing away from your music, what would you want it to be? Honest indie rock with a touch of psychedelia and heartfelt lyrics. It’s all about exploring creativity, mixing things together to see what happens. I love the excitement of just letting the river flow. What’s next for Fred Waves? You mentioned you’re touring soon. Can we expect to hear more new music soon, and is there anything you want to say to your fans? We’ve been busy in the studio lately, so plenty of new songs are coming out throughout the year. We also have a few gigs lined up, and we’re in the process of getting more. Going out to share the music live with the audience is our priority now. Hope to see you out there. Instagram

With a range of potential chart-toppers, Andon is on the cusp of becoming a pop phenomenon which he demonstrates with his new pop/R&B single, "Love Language." His verses, each marked by raw vulnerability, highlight his yearning for complete acceptance in a relationship. The visuals perfectly mirror the song's emotional trajectory, featuring scenes at a beach, intimate moments in a car, and Andon's solo dance sequences against a grey backdrop. The video subtly suggests that the relationship might already be a part of the past, adding a layer of melancholy reflection. With an emotionally charged song and evocative visuals, Andon gives fans more reasons to enjoy "Love Language." Learn more about Andon's "Love Language," available everywhere now. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Andon, and congratulations on your latest release, "Love Language." Your music masterfully weaves elements of R&B and pop, creating a unique genre that is distinctly your own. How has growing up in Kingston, Jamaica, influenced your sound and approach to music? Growing up in Kingston didn't influence my sound. Because I used to watch many Disney Channel and MTV Hits and Musicals, my love for a different sound other than what I heard around me came from dancehall and reggae. It did, however, influence my approach to music. Growing up in Kingston, Jamaica, showed me I could be a pop/RnB star. A legend known for something different is what I want to be. "Love Language" is a beautiful culmination of vulnerable lyricism and captivating melodies. Can you describe the process behind creating your new "Love Language?" I wanted to tell a version of my relationship I've never explored. And that's presenting it without any façades. And hey, what can I say? A little shot of tequila helped with that! Ahahaha. I got to say: "I don't need space; tell me you love me anyway." And that's like, yea! We're fighting, but don't walk away from me... still hug and hold my kind of vibe, you know? Your authenticity as an artist shines through in your heartfelt lyrics, which discuss realistic scenarios many listeners can relate to. Do you have a favorite lyric in "Love Language," and what is its significance to you? DEFINITELY! My favorite lyric I wrote and love is, "Would you be understanding? Care for me? Hold me tight. Don't ever let me leave". Sometimes we need that little reassurance to say that, even if we fight, we'll be grown about it—no childish games. I am just understanding. And I can go on and on, haha. But that's the significance. Your collaboration with Steven Bernard for the "Love Language" music video has proved successful, amassing nearly 70k views on YouTube alone. Can you share the inspiration behind the visual aesthetics of the "Love Language?" First of all, Steven is a GENIUS when it comes on to his craft! His passion and drive in creating each piece of work he puts out is the dedication I aspire to have when it comes to many things in my life. But yeah, I think the song told the story itself to Steven. It was pretty "vivid," as I would like to say, haha. Each verse told a story you could imagine bringing to life, and the chorus also helped a lot with how he would want the video to look. What message do you hope listeners take away from "Love Language?" Love your partner! Love is such a beautiful thing when given and received the right way. Be understanding! Communicate, and DON'T GIVE UP! Instagram Twitter
