- Spectre Jones Gives Us a Radiant Song That Will Leave an Everlasting Impression with “Give It Up”
Spectre Jones is an indie-rock and roll band in the Los Angeles Area whose equipped with a wide range of influences that includes both contemporary and classic. We took a listen to their upbeat and lively single titled “Give It Up” and this completely put us in an immediate refreshing mood of joy and excitement. The really interesting element about Spectre Jones is their musicality and unique creative ideas. They've established a catalog of work ranging sonically from intimate indie-folk hymns and harmonic dreamscapes to retro radio and modern psychedelia. This means if something of theirs sounds familiar, it’s probably because you’ve just might have caught one of their 20 TV/film placements or one of their many playlist streams. Spectre Jones knows how to deliver the listener any type of mood to engage in. “Give It Up” is the type of song that instantly enhances your current state once listening. The vivid images this song paints for you creates a more fulfilling experience for you as a listener and this will undeniably be the song of the new year. I really enjoyed the vibe of “Give It Up” more than anything to be quite honest. Just the elements it exudes is highly noteworthy and compelling. Spectre Jones is a fascinating band that has everything it takes to leave a trail of fans replaying their songs over and over. Most artists have this short-term effect with their music, but for Spectre Jones, we are most certainly sure about the bright future that lies ahead of them in this industry. Listen to "Give It Up" here Welcome to Buzzmusic Spectre Jones! Mind telling our readers a bit about the formation of your band? How did you meet? Spectre Jones, like many of the earth's natural wonders, is the current state of something that's been in the works for a long time. We all met each other between 2012 and 2016 in a small music scene that was present at Pepperdine University in Malibu at the time. We've all played music together in various forms at different times since then, although never all five of us until May of 2018. Spectre Jones started out as just Jake and I (Wilson) back in 2016 when we started working on “Greetings From Spectre Jones,” our debut EP. As we dreamed of what would come next, Jake and I were soon joined by Alexa, John, and Brett to form the five-piece we have today. We've basically spent 2018 and 2019 learning how to write and record and really play together, and it's been a blast. Knowing you have a wide range of influences that combines both contemporary and classic, who are some of your main top inspirations for your intricate artistry? Well, everybody in the band brings their own influences. John is the most dedicated Bon Iver fan you'll ever meet, Jake is deep in the throes of a bad Vulfpeck habit (although they might soon be overshadowed by Haruomi Hosono), Alexa grooves out to LANY and The Band Camino, Brett is a veteran fan of Dr. Dog, and I’m frankly baffled by Mike Viola. But besides sharing all the music we're into with each other, we're also constantly exploring the music of the past for inspiration. The Beatles are probably our biggest influence right now, and that includes the solo work they've done. There's also Fleetwood Mac, XTC, The Band, The Eagles, The Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, The Police, The Clash--you name it! We're all over the place when it comes to the music we love, and we like to keep it that way. We were in awe of your single “Give It Up”. It seemed to have this delightful aesthetic yet the lyrics had a lot of context behind it. What was the main message of this record and what inspired you to write it? Give It Up is about how encountering real love can break a person out of old ways and self-destructive patterns of thinking. There's something bittersweet about having to let go of someone or something toxic when you're trying to "see the light" so to speak, and we want people to hear that said in a hopeful way even though it's tough to go through. Did you stumble upon any obstacles when creating “Give It Up”? Rather in the production or in the simple songwriting process? Sure! Jake and I actually wrote this song and made a demo of it way back when the idea of Spectre Jones was just beginning to form. We didn't think it really sounded like us, just a fun little track. The drums were basically in half time for the whole song, so it was super hype overall, but didn't seem to have any real charm to it in our estimation so we just sat on it. We dug it back up a few months ago and Jake thought to spruce it up a little with livelier drums and the song pretty much made itself. We did encounter some obstacles in terms of getting a drum sound we were happy with. We wanted a tight drum sound for the song, and we're working from home right now out of necessity. We tracked the drums for Give It Up in a tiny bedroom and ended up not even using any ride or crash cymbals. At the end of the day, we did the best we could with space and gear that we have, and we're pretty happy with what we got out of it! What type of arrangements were you sure you wanted to incorporate in the production of “Give It Up”? We wanted to include whatever kind of arrangements would make people want to dance and feel good inside. 2020 is approaching us and it’s very much exciting! What can we expect from Spectre Jones in this upcoming year? We've got a pretty long lineup of singles that we will be releasing about every other month throughout 2020, as well as a song called “Habit” that will be out next month. We're so excited to share all these new sounds and songs with the world! instagram.com/spectrejonesmusic twitter.com/spectre_jones #BuzzMusic
- Dezert Eagle Drops New Banger “Don’t Stop” Ft. Greedy
Based in South London, Dezert Eagle is an artist with a unique sound and flow. His lyrical ability combined with his rhythm delivery makes him a force to be reckoned with. Dezert engages with his audience through the art of storytelling, he has the ability to paint pictures with his words enabling the audience to feel his music. While there’s a definite edge of contemporary hip-hop styles and sounds in “Don’t Stop” ft. Greedy, Dezert Eagle utilizes this to gain an audience’s interest. The music helps create a level of individuality that you start to recognize as being the calling card of this artist. “Don’t Stop” has a smooth, subtle manner in which the whole thing pours through. Nothing flashy or overpowering is needed, the single works on the strength of its own rhythm and intention, and that seems to be the key for Dezert Eagle. The verses throughout “Don’t Stop” feel familiar and accessible, Dezert makes sure to spit rhymes and ideas precisely and naturally. His flow varies just enough so throughout the performance to let you know there’s skill and purpose behind it all, and that works well as he furthers the familiarity of his sound and his name. What makes this release from good to great is Dezert’s voice, his bars are superb, honest and open, fascinating and often endearing, showcasing confidence and vulnerability all at once. You hear the passion and energy build up and up towards the final break and resolve that is the hook. The second verse then explodes into action on a whole other level. Stay tuned for more from Dezert Eagle. Check out Dezert’s new song “Don’t Stop” Ft. Greedy here Welcome back to BuzzMusic Dezert Eagle! We're incredibly excited to feature "Don’t Stop"! It's a genuine and honest track that we feel the utmost love for. Where did you draw the inspiration from to curate such a song? Like all of my songs, the inspiration comes from life experiences But the feeling infused in the beat is where the subject matter was drawn from. We can imagine you've been told time and time again how incredible your voice is, but we just had to say it again. Did your deep and rhythmic flow come naturally, or was it crafted over time? Haha, thanks! My voice has always stood out and been an asset that I’m fully aware of but I have definitely crafted it over the years. My earlier tracks recorded were a lot more aggressive in tone. I liked the aggression but worked on toning it down a little and talking to the listeners rather than shouting at them all the time lol. Can you tell us the predominant message behind "Don’t Stop"? How did you feel writing/recording the track, and how did you intend your listeners to feel? The predominant message is to never give up.! Always keep pushing for whatever it is that you set your mind to. I was definitely gassed up when I wrote this one because I was in love with the beat especially the baseline. It was like a straight-up marriage between my lyrics and the instruments. The beat has a classic hip hop Flava and I can’t deny my love for that. I’d have to say that I intended to give the listeners a burst of energy that will make them wanna get up and go get whatever it is that they desire by any means necessary. How did your collaboration with Greedy come to fruition? Can your listeners expect more projects together in the future? Still Greedy is actually my younger brother so you will definitely hear more of us collaborating. We have tracks parked up and ready to go so it’s just a matter of time. Thanks so much for chatting with us! How does your hometown feed your musical passion on the daily? Do you find that music culture inspires you and your music? My hometown definitely feeds my musical passion on a daily as my music is drawn from my experiences and surroundings. I’ve grown up as a British born Ghanaian and have always been back n forth between both countries from an early age. So both London and Ghana have had a major input into my musical content. I’d say that music culture always encourages me to push and do more and make my contribution. But it doesn’t all necessarily inspire my music, however, there are definitely some artists, musicians, and sounds that do. instagram.com/dezerteaglemusic #BuzzMusic
- Amanda Kate Brings True Country Energy in New Album “Time”
Based in Southern California, Amanda Kate is a country singer/songwriter with a burning passion for music from a young age. Amanda Kate fuses the stylish grit of country with the melodic sensibilities of pop on this latest release. Featuring 13 tracks that span the emotional spectrum of country music, the album “Time” kicks off with “Cowgirl Krytonite”. There’s a fierce guitar arrangement that leaps out of the acoustics, which underlines how full-on country can get! It provides a level of drama to compete with vocal delivery! Amanda Kate’s album “Time” brilliantly utilizes the opportunity to introduce an artist with a genuine, inherent connection to the music she makes. The calming, country-folk tones of “The Package” turn the project in a more heart-warming way, setting the bar high in terms of the melody, the crisp presentation, and Amanda’s own emotional yet flawless leading voice. Following this, the softness of an acoustic guitar continues to guide you through the collection, and the songs reach out to connect making it all the more memorable. “Different Kind of Rain” appears as a mildly classic, a gentle ballad with a similar sense of realness and honesty to the previous track. The subject matter is relatable, it means something very real, but it’s been approached in an accessible and fairly laid-back manner. The simple movement of the music, the rhythm, the subtly rising level of energy all satisfy and comfort in a wonderful way. “Gypsy” is everything the title promises, a big hit with a worthy build-up and an explosive drop, a moment that contrasts brilliantly with what came before. At the same time, the song introduces Amanda’s unique vocal style and versatility. The pronunciation and the length of the notes pay tribute to performance styles that once made waves in the country world. Next up is “I Want You to Know” and the organic instrumentation impresses at every step, maintaining a big-band vibe that could easily translate to the stage to offer a mighty moment of high energy and togetherness. Complete with hints guitar and banjo alike, the whole thing skillfully walks the line between genres, leading with a strength of musicality and songwriting above all else. “Remember Me” brings through an artist with a slightly new style, and a flawless ability to easily meander through the complex melodies of just about any kind of song. The sound and style of the writing are classically authentic, rooted in the organic songwriting from a simpler time, yet clearly conceptually linked to the artist at hand, adding originality and freshness to the journey. “The Last Time” is a personal favorite, a sense of progression emerges, with a contrasting descending melody-line and some notably scene-setting lyrics. The rise up to the hook is beautiful, the song uplifts you with it, and the whole thing moves from minimalist and somewhat optimistic, to heartbreaking; the perfect sort of track to turn to during times of deep reflection and isolation. Amanda Kate’s full vocal range is beautifully on display during “The Last Time”, a true highlight. “Time of Innocence” continues the story-telling aspect and perhaps captivates all the more-so than anything from before. Amanda’s voice takes on that of a story-teller, somewhat clearer, a little more Americana-soaked. Again, a subtle but effective build-up is all that’s needed to see this song through to its finish in an enjoyable manner. “Watching You Give Up” is the sort of song that’s quickly familiar, memorable for its rising melody-line and for the way the soundscape surrounds and supports this building intensity and brightness. The song itself has clearly been well written, the concept is honest and intensely vulnerable – it’s the sort that can be taken on by anyone and everyone experiencing this kind of emotional turmoil. At the same time, this particular performance is stunning Amanda’s voice is phenomenal, effortlessly meandering between moments of delicacy and those that need to hit a little harder in order to emphasize certain emotional peaks. There’s a natural air of strength and beauty to Amanda’s vocal style, and this makes the connection to the words shine all the more brightly. “Without You Here” is everything it needs to be, a superb performance, emotionally compelling, and a notably timeless song. The electric guitar comes in at the opportune moment to intensify the emotion even more so. The track is easily memorable, even among an ocean full of songs from the album. It offers a subtle but certain ear-worm, cleverly making sure you’ll remember and recognize it. “Velvet Leather Tough” has a great musical set-up, the country warmth and the guitar twang backs up Amanda’s leading voice in a fitting way. Her vocal and the song’s concept and melody undoubtedly drive the piece, there’s a certain quirkiness to the sound but it comes through as an authentic danceable country tune. As the album approaches the conclusion, “Healing When I Ride” comes through the speakers to slow down the pace once again. Those opening chords and that riff strike up memories pretty instantly. Then when the vocal melody comes in and tells the listener a story, everything falls into place. The hook in particular, and certain lines paving the way to it offer a bigger moment that absolutely seals the deal. Good musicianship is something you can find almost everywhere these days, good songwriting on top of that though is a little rarer. To end the album is the title track “Time”, it settles in and works its magic in a humble, enjoyable way. Everything about it has just enough character to strengthen the central sound and keep you involved. The country twang and the passion that Amanda Kate injects into the delivery work gorgeously. A great way to end the album, and a final hit of memorable character that will hopefully let the name Amanda Kate ring loud for quite some time. Listen to “Time” here. Welcome to BuzzMusic Amanda Kate! Great to be able to chat with you, thanks for the interview! What can you tell us about the overall concept of your album “Time”? The reason I named this album TIME was because of how much I cherish time these days. My mom was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer 2 years ago and It felt like my whole world came crashing down and at that moment you become so aware of TIME. My mom is more than just my mom, she’s my best friend, my songwriting partner, my horseback riding partner…my everything. When you are faced with a limit of TIME you realize that there is no time like the present and you have to take advantage of every day. I decided that I wanted to never give up on my dream. I want my mom to see how her music can change people's lives. I want her to know I'll never give up. Music has always been such a huge part of my life but this time it was more than just my dream, this was about my mom. Giving her songs a voice. When cancer took her vocal cords I promised her no matter what happens I would always sing her songs, I will always help your songs fly. This album is dedicated to my mama. Your music always seems to light up the room and lift an audience up just when they need it! Was it your intention to be this kind of optimistic artist, or is it something that simply comes naturally for you? I genuinely love to make people feel good and see the good in life. I grew up with a mom who was a dreamer, a believer and just downright always happy. I want people to walk away from a show either being touched by a lyric or entertained by a performance from my energy. I want people to always say "man she looks like she is having the time of her life up there". How have you honed your songwriting style over time, and what do you think are the main qualities that make a song truly connect and last in the long-run? For me I really love writing about my personal life experience, I grew up with a mother who was a songwriter and she always told me that songs should be about "one soul at a time". If you write a song and it changes one person's life, that's enough. I don't consider myself a great songwriter, I think I have a long way to go but I know I'm writing my truth and I'm writing songs that I believe in. I always want to be authentic and even when it feels uncomfortable I want to always have the courage to sing those songs. Although the entire album was beautifully written, “Watching You Give Up” was a notably vulnerable and emotional song, it gave me chills from start to finish. Are all of your songs based on life experience? Do you ever worry about being too honest and open? So that song, in particular, was really hard to write and sing because it was about my father. For the longest time, I couldn't even sing it live because I would start crying. Now as more time has passed I've been able to disconnect my personal connection with the song and just tell the story. Alcohol plays such a big part in ruining lots of people's lives and I have had so many people tell me that the song hit home with them over a parent or friend... it's definitely one of the songs that I will always be so proud of writing because it's 100% truth and heartache. Thank you so much for sharing your new music with us and telling us a bit about yourself in the process! Do you have any upcoming shows in support of the new album? I always tell people I'm really a normal simple girl, I have a beautiful little girl who is my entire world. I'm a mom, a wife, a daughter and a horse mommy to 3 beautiful quarter horses haha. I'm a completely independent artist chasing my dream while keeping all the other plates spinning. It's the most rewarding time in my life being able to chase my dream with my family by my side. I grew up in a small town in New Mexico and I'm so thankful for those years as a child in such a small town, I really shaped who I am today. California is home because this is where my baby girl was born, where I met my husband and where I planted roots. My mom was a dean martin golddigger when she was young, performing with the likes of Dean, Bob Hope and more. The entertainment business was bound to catch up with me, it's in my blood to be on stage. I have my album release party Oct 9th at The Ranch Saloon, I will be playing the Suburu Country Freedom Festival in San Pedro with Chris Janson and Cody Johnson on Oct 19th. I also will be planning a southwest tour in 2020 through New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas. - Keeping up with Five.others, Dynamic Canadian Indie-Soul Artist
Making his name known from Toronto, Canada, Five.others is an indie-soul artist who implements R&B sensibilities into his funk-inspired music. A veteran in the Toronto indie music scene for over a decade, Five.others have written, performed, and engineered for various acts such as The Lipstick Junkies, Swift Arrow, Naked Wild, and more. Five.others debut EP “Sweet Blue” juxtaposes melancholic R&B and soul with funky slacker rock guitars to create something equal parts jazzy, groovy, and contemplative. Emerging with the weight and heart of a full band, Five.others’ emotional and jazz-infused sound and style throughout this new EP is superb, melodic, powerful, honest and insightful. Following the release of “Sweet Blue” in August 2019, Five.others were back in the studio and just over a month later he released his 3-track demo on Soundcloud. I was going to highlight one specific song but all three are a pleasure to experience. Whether you’re looking for a groovy tune to tap your foot to or a completely blissful moment of escapism within the music, Five.others will deliver. He is an artist on his way to the top and with another demo on the way this month, we have no doubt he’ll make up. Check out “Sweet Blue” here. Welcome back to BuzzMusic Five.others! It’s such a pleasure to be chatting with you again. “Sweet Blue” as a whole is extremely versatile and diverse! How long was this project in the making? Thanks BuzzMusic, it’s definitely nice to be back. “Sweet Blue” is a compilation EP in a sense. The process began in mid 2017, as I spent about 18 months making demos with the hopes of finding my style somewhere within the 40+ songs I would eventually record leading up to “Sweet Blue”. After I felt that I had started to settle into a style, say spring 2019, I sat down with my good friend and longtime collaborator Brian Davis of Goodday/Badday Productions with the goal of curating those demos into a more concise and cohesive debut release. We took the original demos and renovated them in a sense; we redid the vocals, ironed out some issues, Brian re-recorded some of the bass tracks, and most importantly mixed and mastered the songs. We did the whole thing in our home studio setups and it probably took about 3 months as we were working on it between a bunch of our other projects at Goodday/Badday. “always” is a great new track but it seems to have a meaningful message behind the lyrics. Can you tell us more about this song and the 3-track demo you released in September as a whole? As a reference I’ll start with the lyrics for “always”: ALWAYS ———————— Here I am Mysterious a higher plan Delirious I just can’t stand That things have gotta change Things have gotta sway But I won’t, no No, I won’t go Ever and always feeling so blue Ever and always wanting to Ever and always somebody new Ever and always lonely too Here I am This song is definitely more straightforward and personal than most of my work, and is really emblematic of my intention moving forward after the release of “Sweet Blue” in August 2019. It’s really about being compassionate with oneself. After spending the better part of 2 years leading up to the public debut of five.others, playing some live shows, doing some (probably not enough) promotion, and achieving these goals I had set for myself, the first thing I could think to do was to get back to making demos. I mean, I have written and recorded more than enough songs, and focusing more on my social footprint is probably more constructive for my career as five.others. The couple hundred streams, the visibility of being public, and all the support, validation, and attention I received since August have been so nice, but ultimately fleeting within the vacuum of my self. There’s a lot of ambivalence that I experienced throughout all that, pride, shame, gratitude, envy, disappointment, that is all very displacing, and “always” is really about taking a stand against those forces, highlighted by the assertion “here I am”. For better or worse I am myself, I must continue to walk my path, and let that affirmation and acceptance of self propel me forwards. Self love is a muscle. Since you’ve been making music for several years, how would you compare some of the earlier material you’ve written to what you’re currently working on? How have you honed your songwriting style over time, and what do you think are the main qualities that make a song truly connect and last in the long-run? In general, five.others is a lot more relaxed than my previous works. Since it’s just me I can really do whatever I want, and for now, a big part of that is making my songs shorter than normal. Mostly I’m writing the song as I record it, so I’m not really even planning it out too much or writing the song beforehand. Since I’m in a place where I’m writing alone and in large volumes, I find it’s useful to keep my approach fresh. Maybe it’s not using guitar (my main instrument), or writing as much of the song without an instrument at all, or starting with the drums, any little challenge to alter the process forces me to grow and round out my skill set. In general, recording and mixing my own songs and working with a DAW are areas that I am still learning and improving at. Over time I think I’m learning to think less and trust my instincts more, lean into my isms, and not get too attached to any song or part in particular. Ultimately, that might represent the most important qualities in songwriting, in that there’s a level of honesty that needs to be conveyed, but really there’s no one thing in my mind. What would you say is the most useful piece of criticism you’ve received thus far within your career? Do you typically take criticism to your advantage? It is quite difficult to take even the most constructive of criticisms constructively, especially with something as subjective and personal as art. Often times too, the advice we most need to hear is also the hardest to hear. The most thoughtful and exhaustive criticism I’ve ever received was in the summer of 2012 from producer and songwriter Arnold Lanni, who was working with my band at the time. We had met and played for him, and eventually, he came to Toronto from California to produce an album or at least a song with us. It wasn’t so much one specific piece of criticism as it was 2 days of feeling my dreams go up in smoke. We all definitely learned a lot through that experience and I hope that I’ve been able to use it to my advantage, as I would with any feedback. We’re really looking forward to hearing some more new music! What can we, and your evergrowing fanbase, expect from your upcoming project? I’m going to be writing, recording, and releasing more demos on my SoundCloud, and continuing the precedent of curating them into an official release with Goodday/Baddday. I’d like to continue building on the scale of five.others’ infrastructure as well, perhaps a full length album or videos of some sort to help grow the project. In the meantime I’m hoping to release demos every 2 months or so, so I’d love any feedback or support while we’re still in the early stages. Thank you so much for chatting with us again! Do you prefer the more intimate recording process over live performance? How do you personally feel when you're performing your music live? I was always a pretty shy person, so I’m proud of myself for being quite comfortable and confident in live settings. Especially playing my first shows solo as five.others and being relaxed and in control has made it very enjoyable for me. My sets have been jazzy and intimate and very chill. That being said, I’m not sure there’s anything I enjoy more than writing and demoing. Except maybe doing interviews ;) seriously though it’s an honour to be back and I really appreciate the platform and those who take the time to read this and/or interact with five.others. instagram.com/five.others #BuzzMusic
- Artist Spotlight on Los Angeles' Lexie Martin
This year has been absolutely explosive for Lexie Martin, a talented singer/songwriter residing in Los Angeles, California. After relocating from Long Island in February of 2018, Lexie Martin was quick to get into the studio and begin working on her self-titled debut EP! Released January 14, 2019, the EP is 5 tracks of original content that focus on empowerment, self-love, and plenty of pop anthems. Featured on the EP, my personal favorite, and currently on repeat in my office is “Extra”. This is an uplifting body-positive track about being true to yourself, even if you’re a little “Extra”. Lexie is currently working on a new music video to match this song! The EP as a whole is extremely relatable for young women and anyone going through the motions of life. Lexie Martin makes undeniably relatable music through her accessible themes and spectacular songwriting ability. Her vocals are powerful, meaningful, and catchy to say the least. “Disclaimer” and “Break My Heart” deliver an almost dance-hall or tropical vibe to further energize listener and prove Lexie’s versatility. Produced by Nash Overstreet (Britney Spears, Rachel Platten, Hot Chelle Rae), the EP is a huge step in the right direction for Lexie Martin. Following her debut EP and previously featured on BuzzMusic, Lexie dropped an equally contagious music video for her hit single and intro track “I Can” to kick off summer 2019! With thousands of views and streams combined, Lexie Martin is an absolute musical gem and the artist to watch heading into 2020 as she is currently working on a full-length album. Listen to the full EP here. Welcome back to BuzzMusic Lexie! It’s always a pleasure talking to you. We’re so excited to hear you’re releasing a new music video for “Extra”! What will be the overall concept of the video? How will it match with the sentiments of the track? My concept for "'Extra" is based off one of the most iconic divas of Disney Channel in the 2000's. The music video will channel what it means to be over the top, living your truth and having a fabulous time! It's all about embracing who you are, as the track encourages. I don't want to give too much away, but there will be a lot of pink! We took a detailed listen to your self-titled EP and loved every second of it! Can you dive into the lyrical meaning within “Greatest Love”? What inspired this song? The lyrical meaning behind "Greatest Love" comes from a journey I had with a partner from a relationship at the time, to realizing how I valued myself. I wasn't getting the type of love I needed from the relationship and fantasized about "the perfect partner" who would treat me the way I wanted to be treated and what that love would feel like. But as the song progressed, I realized that an even more powerful love was the love I had for myself. Not in an arrogant way, but just to understand myself worth. Never settle and never feel that y9u must make yourself smaller in order for others to shine. “Disclaimed” really introduces a diverse soundscape. What was the production process like on this danceable track? For 'Disclaimer" I knew that I wanted to take a song that was rooted in a very sad moment of my life and turn it into a dance song with the chorus mainly being instrumentals. For that section of the chorus, I actually played Nah the chorus of Dua Lipa's "Want To". What a well-engineered song! That's the vibe I was going for and was inspired by. What has it been like working with Nash Overstreet? Nash Overstreet is an extremely talented musical genius. He listened to everything I wanted and was really awesome about including me in on the production process. He brought all my ideas to life and then some! We'd get chipotle, turn on "The Office" or "Big Mouth" or some kind of nature channel and get to work. It was a real pleasure. He is an extremely talented instrumentalist, writer and producer and his ideas are brilliant. And to top it all off he's a down to earth, chill dude. Thank you so much for catching up with us yet again! What can you tell us about your upcoming album? Do you have an official release date? No official release date, but expect more self-empowerment and vulnerability. I want to create something that everyone can find accessible while being very personable and real. instagram.com/lexiemmusic twitter.com/iamLexiemartin #BuzzMusic
- Arvie Bennett Jr. Shares His Album “Just a Cowboy” and the Powerful Message Behind His Music
Born in the small town of Ninety-Six, South Carolina, Arvie Bennett Jr. started from humble beginnings. Money was tight but Arvie inherited things more precious than money... A strong faith in God, undying resilience in the face of pain, and a passion for life’s possibilities. The country singer/songwriter started out singing in the choir which led to his journey into the music industry. He traveled to Nashville, Tennessee where he experienced the highs and lows of the industry, as every musician does. In October 2018, Arvie, now a solo artist, signed a recording contract with Winter Records-Nashville. He immediately went into Yellow Hammer Studios and recorded “Just A Cowboy”, a six-song EP of original music. “Just A Cowboy” was released early 2019 and continues to garner streams to this day. Listen to Arvie Bennett Jr’s music here and keep scrolling for more in our exclusive interview. Welcome back once again Arvie Bennett Jr! It’s always a pleasure to chat with you. The EP “Just a Cowboy” is admirably versatile but holds an impactful message through the lyrics. How long has this project been in the making? What does it mean to you to have it released to the public? Thank you for your kind words about “Just A Cowboy.” It is always an honor to work with Buzz-Music and to share more about my music. The “Just A Cowboy” EP is a culmination of many years of writing, touring, and performing. The title track “Just A Cowboy” was written twelve years ago and has been recorded and released on two other projects. However, I feel like this EP is unique because I was better able to convey the emotions of my “live” performances on a studio album. Each and every project release is special and I always pray that it will touch the hearts of the people who listen. Yet, the “Just A Cowboy” EP is unique because it came after a two-year break from performing and questioning my purpose. Those two years allowed me to rest and recuperate from years of constant touring but more importantly, those two years allowed me to grow closer to Jesus and it was because of that closeness that my music became better. It’s more heartfelt now. The music video for “Where He Found Me” is incredible! It gives the essence of a live performance for those who haven’t seen you on stage. What was the overall concept of releasing this video? In all honesty, “Where He Found Me” was never intended to be released to radio as a single. My initial plan was to release “Mad At You” or “Going Outlaw” as my next single to radio. My radio promoter and I had never even discussed the possibility of releasing “Where He Found Me.” However, God has a funny way of changing our plans at any moment. With that being said, the video is from a live television performance on NiteLine that was recorded earlier this year. I thought about producing a “real” music video for the song, but the positive response that I received from Buzz-Music and my fans helped me to that its simplicity moves hearts. We were absolutely captivated by your vocals on this project as usual! Can you dive into the meaning of the lyrics within “Where He Found Me? Thank you! Over the years, I have had the opportunity to pursue multiple career paths. I have made my living as a baseball player, coach, public school teacher, musician, and pastor. In each of these, I have been able to grow as a person and have unique experiences that make me who I am today. Honestly, I believe Christians and especially pastors, have given Jesus a “black-eye,” so to speak. “Where He Found Me” simply chronicles my personal relationship with a God who wants nothing more than to love me, care for me, and meet me exactly where I am. You see, though I am a Christian, I am far from perfect and I make mistakes each and every day. “Where He Found Me” stems from a time where I was angry at everything, including God. The path I was on was destroying me and many of my closest relationships. I remember it like it was yesterday; I was scheduled to play shows in Myrtle Beach, SC and then make the eight-hour drive to Georgia and play another show to close out my weekend. At the time I was traveling with a full-band and money was tight. The shows in Myrtle Beach were outside. All week I had kept an eye on the weather, and it looked questionable for the weekend. I was anxious because I had already paid for our hotel rooms and other expenses. When we arrived in Myrtle Beach, the weather took a turn for the worst. If the shows were “rained- out,” I wasn’t sure how I was going to make it to Georgia or cover the expenses the trip had already incurred. Needless to say, I was in a state of panic! Then, my wife Bunny suggested that I pray about the situation and ask God to ease up on the rain so we could perform. At the time, I hadn’t prayed in years and I wasn’t even sure if I still believed in God. Yet, I took my wife’s advice and said this prayer, “If there is a God and you are Him, prove it by making the rain stop for my show.” It was half-hearted, to say the least, and I had no belief that it was going to work. Even though the prayer was not the most sincere, I think God was so happy to hear from me, He decided to change the forecast. The sun came out and that ended up being one of our best shows of the year. Even with all that, my prayer answered, I still wasn’t convinced. However, over the next couple of months, God would continue to perform miracles in my life and in my heart. As I slowly began to trust God again, the song “Where He Found Me” started to take form and eventually I would write the lyrics and compose the music. In the end, “Where He Found Me” is a song of second chances and redemption. It is my hope that “Where He Found Me” will help all of us understand that God loves us and will chase after us and find us wherever we may find ourselves. Did your initial vision for the EP “Just a Cowboy” end up executing as you thought it would?! In modern music culture and business, it is often difficult to measure a song or an EP’s success. When I speak with young artists, I always share my philosophy and motives for creating music. I believe that music is a gift that is meant to be shared with others. My motive for producing and performing is to make a positive impact on everyone who comes in contact with me or my songs. Financially, I have lost money on every project I have ever created but that is not why I do make music. Once an artist realizes that it’s about impacting people, everything else will fall into place. So, yes, my initial vision for “Just A Cowboy” has been exceeded and continues to change lives. Since you’ve been making music for several years, how would you compare some of the earlier material you’ve written to your newest release? As I have aged and matured, my songwriting has become more precise and to the point. I try to listen and accept feedback from others. I have also learned how to translate my emotions onto a studio recording. I believe that I learned and grew with each and every project and I hope that I continue to grow in the future. The point is, each of us possesses intrinsic gifts. It is our job to discover it, practice it and hone it! Then, share it! Thank you so much for talking to us once again! What can fans expect from a live show from Arvie Bennett Jr? Over the years, I have tried different performance techniques in my live shows. However, I have come to realize that I am first and foremost, a storyteller. When you come to my show, you will find me sitting on a stool, just me and my guitar, attempting to personally connect with each member of the audience through my songs and stories. I like to think that when you walk away from my show that you are not just a fan but a friend. instagram.com/arviejrmusic #BuzzMusic
- Artist Of The Day: Olympia Papageorgiou
Not only is she national, but she’s an international superstar who is showing the world how powerful and badass a hardworking woman can accomplish. If you’re curious as to who, we are talking about Olympia Papageorgiou who has created a name for herself that will continue to grow and stick with people in the near future. Based in Atlanta Georgia, this flawless diva was signed to Qurriculum Global Record Label in February of 2017. She has multiple singles under her belt including, “Falling Apart” and her biggest to date, “Salud”, alongside being featured in “Homecoming” by Eddy Fuego and several other songs released that same year. She doesn’t stick to the norm of being boxed into one genre, I mean how boring is that? Instead, this vibrant artist is influenced by a wide range of genres and inspirations, some of which included Greek, R&B, and Jazz. Not only does her music hit well, but her personality is also invigorating and memorable. Olympia had her first interview with This is How You Music in 2018 where she discusses details of her artistry as well as her single 8th Day. killing the stigma that artists throw all their eggs into one basket, Olympia is also pursuing her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology at Mercer University while pursuing music as well. Does it get any better than this? We not quite sure it does! Olympia’s smashing music can be found on all platforms and you’ll be a fool to not tune in to this next groundbreaking and trailblazing success! Listen to Olympia Papageorgiou's music here and get to know more about her below! Welcome to BuzzMusic Olympia! We’re excited to have you with us and discuss your music more in-depth. Knowing you attend school as well, can juggling both your music and schooling become challenging or stressful at times? In what ways? Thank you! I am excited to be back on BuzzMusic! Juggling both music and school is very intense especially if there is a direct overlap of assignments and recording sessions. There are times where one can feel like it is in the way of the other but I do my best to balance both. I find school interesting especially because the topics are on a graduate-level but that also means its demanding. When I feel like I need more time for school, I slow down the music temporarily. I am blessed to have a team that understands that and knows that my education is a priority. It goes to show that you can continue school and pursue music at the same time, you just have to be balanced. Who said you can’t be a singer and a doctor! Tell us about your first single “Falling Apart”. For your first song, did you already have a clear idea of how you wanted the record to be executed? Why or why not? Falling Apart is interesting because it originally was not going to be my first single. It was actually going to be a feature but then morphed into a single. Going into the studio, I didn’t think that I would leave with a reggaeton hit! I love dancing and found that Falling Apart was perfect for that so I decided to release it. It also took a while to record because it was my first experience recording a song like that but it was incredibly fun. I hope to release more reggaeton songs throughout my music career! Talk to us about your record “Salud”, this has been deemed the biggest one of your career so far. What was the theme behind this single? It definitely has been my biggest record so far which is crazy to think about. I never thought I would even say words like that haha. Having a Greek-Cypriot background, I wanted to add international and world sounds to my music and I found Salud to be the perfect track. I wanted to release a summer/international song and I just fell in love with the sound of it. It merges several languages together too so it is pretty unique in its lyrics as well as the instrumentation. Because I have a dance background, I knew that I wanted my music to be something you could move to and Salud offers that. Where do you draw most of your inspiration from when it comes to writing these hit records? How do you channel in the perfect emotion to create these pieces? What a good question. My inspiration really comes from my cultural background, dance, and languages. I co-write with my producer which is very helpful and he is much more knowledgeable about structuring songs which makes the songs come together very well. I can't take all the credit, I have a team that is open, diverse and really knows what they are doing. I definitely let things come to me while I listen to a track and try not to limit myself to a certain topic or theme because you never know what surprises will come to you. Emotionally, I have to feel the track and seriously enjoy it to want to write or sing on it. I can be picky at times! From an artist’s perspective, in what ways does “8th Day” differentiate from the other amazing hits you released prior? 8th Day is a very special song with an old school 90’s R&B vibe which I love. It’s smooth and sultry but not over the top. It is the only true R&B song I have released! Salud is international, Falling Apart is reggaeton, Salud (Remix) is R&B and Pop but 8th Day has that old-school feel to it. 8th Day is definitely in its own lane when it comes to lyrics, sound and nostalgic feeling. I hope that when people listen to it, they think of the person they love. What’s the legacy you hope to leave behind you Olympia? Wow, what a question! I am not sure… I think I am too early in the music game to really know. In general, I hope that when people listen to my music, they have good feelings and want to dance, smile, laugh and be carefree. I hope that some of the music makes them think, intrigues and uplifts them. Even if I can't choose a legacy to leave behind, I hope that if I do, it's positive and impactful. www.instagram.com/olympiapapag #BuzzMusic
- Matching Sox Talk About Their Productive 2019 and Much-Anticipated Debut EP!
Matching Sox is an exciting pop-punk duo made up of Sam Downey on vocals and bass and Jaden Galachiuk on vocals and drums. Does it sound like something is missing? Matching Sox aims to galvanize the current music industry and prove that they don’t need a guitarist to complete their sound. Sam and Jaden are both previous members of the now-defunct band Beyond Oblivion and after hearing each other perform they collaborated to create a project that only contains vocals, distorted bass guitar, and heavy drums. Matching Sox was born and the duo then released their debut single “Wrote This Song”. With the song, Sam and Jaden aimed to write a song that would be stuck in the listener’s head, which is pretty evident from the chorus that sings “I wrote this song so you’d sing along”. Matching Sox introduces a whole new sound in punk music with the use of only bass guitar and drums and we love it! More recently, Matching Sox has been hard at work preparing to release their brand new EP “Trusty Little Fox” in December, then they are headed out on tour shortly after! You can catch a sneak peek of the EP by checking out the live version of their new original song “Escapegoat” on Youtube. Listen to Matching Sox’s new music here and read more below! Welcome back, guys! What have you been up to since the release of your debut single “Wrote This Song”? Thanks for having us back! Since we released our debut single we have been working hard on our debut ep which we want to get out in the next month or so. Also, we have been setting up a YouTube channel where we are going to have weekly videos about our lives in and out of the studio. As well as funny videos of us playing board games with our friends. We are gonna start posting videos on our YouTube page in the next week or so. We’re completely blown away by the full-band sound you guys are able to present. How do you deliver this in such an effortless manner? In a live setting, the secret to the super fat distorted bass tone is not one amp but two amps. I split my signal into both a bass amp and a guitar amp. The bass amp gives me the super low end that is needed to give the tone energy during the chorus and breakdowns and then the guitar amp gives me the distorted/crunchy tone that is the base to our sound. I believe that with the amount of gear that is available today you can really do anything with your instrument. Where are you both from? What is the music scene lie in your hometown? Jaden is from the Muskoka area in Ontario, Canada. It’s about 2 and a half hours north of Toronto. I’m (Sam) a city kid at heart. I was born and raised about 20 minutes outside of downtown Toronto. Now we are both based in London, Ontario. Which is about 2 hours west of Toronto. The music scene in London is pretty big with the Fanshawe Colleges music program being one of the biggest in Canada. But we want to break into the Toronto music scene as I find that concert-goers in Toronto are a lot more into supporting local up and coming acts. Your live performance of “Escapegoat” was amazing! What’s the overall sentiment behind this new song? Thanks so much! Escapegoat was our take on comedy rock music from Matching Sox. Jaden actually wrote the chord progression and brought it to me and I came up with some funny lyrics that told a story about blaming other people who won’t get in as much trouble as you. The funniest thing about the writing process behind the song was that Jaden and I both thought that Escapegoat was a real word until my girlfriend was like “you know it’s pronounced scapegoat right.” What can you tell us about your upcoming EP “Trusty Little Fox”? We have put everything into this EP and we want it to be perfect! The EP will have 4 new songs from us and we have recorded and produced everything all by ourselves with no help from any commercial studios. Right now everything has been recorded and we are on the mixing stage. We are hopefully going to be releasing the EP on all streaming platforms in mid-December just in time for the holidays! We are thinking of even filming some music videos as well! Thank you so much for talking with us about your new singles and creative process. Can you describe how your performances feel? Do you enjoy live shows, or do you prefer the actual songwriting process? Thanks so much for having us! We do enjoy playing live shows and we will be organizing an EP release show for sure! But with Matching Sox our focus isn’t just on playing live shows and producing music, we also want to release a line of clothing soon, Create online content and videos and overall just create a brand/company around the Matching Sox nation! The first thing on the list though is to release some behind the scenes videos of us recording for the EP and creating videos of us playing board games and having fun with friends! instagram.com/matchingsoxband #BuzzMusic
- A Big Year Ahead from Rising Hip Hop Artist Grizzy Wynter
Grizzy Wynter is always coming back with new hip-hop anthems. Born to Jamaican parents, Grizzy Wynter grew up listening to reggae and fondly remembers listening to Bob Marley and Peter Tosh growing up. This ultimately grew into Grizzy Wynter using music as an outlet to channel his emotions through high school. Finding inspiration from notable artists like Nas, Tech N9ne and Lil Wayne to bands like Linkin Park and Foo Fighters, Grizzy Wynter is always pulling from new places for his individual sound. Making a spot for himself as a legend, Vancouver- based artist, Grizzy Wynter aims to make history. This year has been incredibly productive for Grizzy, confidently kicking off the year with his single “Loco”, followed up with the Paranoyd remix featuring Monsta Mack! Then Grizzy Wynter dropped his banger “Weird Flex” featuring CXCX Chu Chu introducing himself as an admirably versatile talent. His newest single “Speed Racer” is a hard-hitting and ambitious anthem and the perfect single to start if you’re new to Grizzy’s sound. Not only has Grizzy Wynter been busy dropping fire singles, but he’s been hard at work creating visuals for his two biggest singles of 2018. “Kill The Pills” and “Dope” ft Sadé Ariel now have spectacular accompanying music videos to match the overall vibe. Grizzy Wynter has his foot on the gas with no signs of slowing down and we can’t wait to see what he does next! Check out Grizzy Wynter’s music here. Welcome back to BuzzMusic Grizzy Wynter! Who has had the biggest influence on your life musically thus far? Can you describe the impact this particular individual has had in terms of your new song “Speed Racer”? Hey great to be back, much love for the position in the top 10, my biggest influence musically is probably Lil Wayne, his punchlines and delivery and storytelling definitely influenced me on everything and with Speed Racer it was that storyline element and the Punchlines I wanted to show off especially when telling such a crazy part of my life. Let's talk about the feature you did with B. Mendez! "Unannounced" is a dope track! How did the collaboration come to fruition? Thank you , unannounced happened cause B. Mendez reached out, we actually went to high school together and he had tried to work on something else prior but it just didn't pan out , honestly having someone else that I've known for so long in the game feeds that fire to put my best work forward so when it came to the collab I really wanted to have the best verse and by having that fire the track came out great from the both of us. We absolutely love your latest music video! What predominant message was integrated within "Dope" ft Sadé Ariel? Can you tell us more about the concept of the video as a whole? Thank you very much , the idea of the song and the video it can be interpreted two way when I wrote it the song was about addiction, either to relationships or to drugs so , Dominique (the model) is like the the temptation I'm trying not to give in to and Sadé is either my girl who knows I'm sneaking out on her or my guardian angel praying I don't fall into addiction. You seem to be an artist that puts more thought into their lyrics than most. What can you tell us about the lyrical depth within "Kill The Pills"? What was the filming process like for this video? With Kill The Pills every bar is was trying to out due the last one I wanted to get my message across as all as challenge myself along the way , like I said Lil Wayne is basically my spirit animal so when it came to showcasing my skills I want to constantly one up myself , now that video wooooooooooo, that was process originally I shot a completely different video with more moving parts more people but it didn't come together so the DOP of that one said hey let's try again but do it smaller so we shot in a house got a model and set it the way we did and I loved how it turned out. Thank you so much for talking with us about your new music and creative process! Can you describe how you've developed this year as an artist? What has been the achievement you're most proud of in 2019? Thank you guys so much , I appreciate it , I think this year I learned that I've gone through some definite growth as far as the business side of things goes and learning what projects are right for me and 2019 my biggest lesson has been knowing my worth and I can't stress this enough to other artists man know what your worth is , don't undercut yourself , know your value in everything you do, that alone will take you so far. instagram.com/_grizzywynter #BuzzMusic
