- Canadian Indie Artist Juneyear Creates Captivating SoundScape With “Water Lily”
Canadian Indie Artist Juneyear Creates Captivating SoundScape With “Water Lily” Hailing from Brampton, Canada, Juneyear has been making music since a very young age. Always drawn to being a musician, it’s not surprising that Juneyear has decided to pursue a musical career. The experimental indie artist has a full-length album out now titled “Mr. Nobody” and an upcoming 3 song EP titled “some dumb love songs” coming out in October 2019! He says that this will be his most versatile project yet and show his listeners a side of himself that he has yet to reveal. Juneyear’s latest single “water lily” is a smooth piece of instrumentation. It’s soft and organic intro leads the listener into a vast soundscape. The lyrics are simple, the leading voice has a certain easy-going joyfulness about it, and the simple few notes that make up each line create an immediately memorable, minimalist yet rhythmic thread, which continues to keep you involved from start to finish. Things continuously evolve in a manner that refuses to succumb to your expectations. Again, this is something that ties in with the lyrics of the song and it just makes sense. From a songwriting perspective, “water lily” leaves you contemplating that melody over and over. It’s the perfect, unexpected earworm of the moment. Check out “water lily” here and read more with Juneyear below! instagram.com/fuckjuneyear #BuzzMusic
- New Music: Aesthetic Drops New Single And Visuals For “Hold Me Down”
Brandon Karasinski, professionally known as Aesthetic, has been making music for close to a decade. Active since 2011, the talented singer/songwriter began as a vocalist for various punk bands which ultimately led to him deciding to go solo. His outlet and first solo-project Aesthetic was born in 2017 and is heavily inspired by blackbear, The Chainsmokers, and Zedd. With 3 previously released singles and his fourth single out now, Aesthetic is showing no signs of slowing down. Stylishly blending elements of pop, electronica, and tropical fusion, “Hold Me Down” has managed to lead with both an impressive production style and a brilliantly heartfelt, softly soulful brand of songwriting. The song quite beautifully underlines the mood implied by its title and new music video. Smooth and creative set-ups accompany deeply emotional lyrics and an equally passionate array of performances, showcasing an artist undoubtedly connected to the moment. The warm and entrancing beat throughout “Hold Me Down” joins forces with a delicate, dreamlike array of synths and some organic elements to keep a sense of realness. Then you get a gorgeously poetic outpouring of ideas and revelations, intimate and honest. The new music video is absolutely worth a watch. You see Aesthetic gets deeply honest and open about the way he feels about his girl. It’s a fun and upbeat new track from Aesthetic and hopefully a good indicator of his sound going forward! Listen to “Hold Me Down” here and read more in our exclusive interview below! Hey Aesthetic! Great to be showcasing some of your new music on BuzzMusic! Tell us more about your personal upbringing within the music world? Well hello! First and foremost, thank you so much for taking the time to speak with me. I appreciate the interest in what I love to do! So my earliest recollection of entering the music world would have to be when I was 4. My grandpa and I are incredibly close and I always used to listen and sing along to his Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley and Beatles records. I knew from an early age that music was going to be a part of my life. In addition to those artists, I was very much into the 90’s boyband movement. I fondly remember owning one of the Backstreet Boys live VHS tapes and I used to sing and dance along to the music. There was so much personal joy in performing to an audience that consisted of just my family’s TV that I knew I had to do it on stage in front of people one day. From age 4-6 it was all 90’s boybands, from 7-8 it was all Eminem & 50 Cent but it was actually hearing Michelle Branch’s “All You Wanted” playing on the radio for me to want to learn to play guitar. I performed in recitals and played in bands all throughout late elementary school up through my community college years. Before launching Aesthetic, I actively gigged and sang for an emo punk band from age 18-20. We had the privilege of playing all throughout the Lehigh Valley, PA area and got the opportunity to open for artists such as Our Last Night, Set It Off and Trace Cyrus of Metro Station to name a few. We ended up disbanding, I transferred out to finish my undergrad about two hours from home in Lancaster, PA and since then I’ve officially gone solo. I tried to keep going with the emo punk/rock sound and even recorded a few new tracks that I wrote of that sound but I couldn’t enlist any dedicated band members to play it. It wasn’t until my friend and current producer Austin Hull started the “Make Pop Music” group on Facebook that I got into wanting to write and perform the type of music I currently play. I started writing my first track “Happy Again” on my laptop in the summer of 2017, recorded and sent it to Austin for mixing, landed on the name “Aesthetic” for this project and then released it on New Year’s 2018. Here I am a couple of years later about to drop my 4th single and 2nd music video. I couldn’t be more excited! Do you believe that the way you intend to communicate your messages through your music is easily received by your listeners? I think so! There’s nothing all that vague about my lyricism. I mean, people who have listened to my music will get out of it what they get out of it, but I like to believe I do a good job in clearly portraying my messaging in each of my songs. My first single “Happy Again” was very much an anthem when it comes to me dealing with my personal mental health struggles. “Shadow Puppets”, my second single, builds on that theme by bringing in the positive release I get from those demons by being with my girlfriend Britt, whom I love dearly. Lastly, my 3rd single “Milestones” is a pretty straight forward pick yourself up, dust yourself off and keep on trucking type of track. I can’t speak for everyone who listens but that’s the messaging I was trying to get across for those tracks and I think it was pretty apparent. Haha “Hold Me Down” was an incredibly versatile and catchy track. Where did you draw the inspiration to create this particular type of sound? Thanks! I’m glad you thought so. During the writing process of “Hold Me Down” I felt like I was taking a bit of a risk. Every song I write starts off on guitar and this one was no different. But I had never done a track where I felt like I was stepping outside of my comfort zone both melodically and instrumentally. After releasing 3 tracks with the central theme surrounding my mental health struggles, it was a nice departure to put together a fun happy track. I was going for a fun summery sound and I think the tropical pop style is evident in the track. But there’s also a bit of hip hop influence on the vocal melody. When I first cut the demo track, the instrumental gave me under the sea Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” type vibes. Haha. Because it was so different I was nervous, so much so that my first few listens through the final cut I was like “ehhh.” But then my amazing girlfriend Brittany, whom I wrote the song about, knocked some sense into me and I fell in love with it. I’m an artist! We’re our own worst critics okay?! hahah I’m lucky enough to have an amazing partner who loves and believes in everything I do, even if I myself may not believe in it right away. How would you say that “Hold Me Down” compares to the kind of music you curated when you first started out as an artist? I would say that it’s definitely happier! It’s funny because my first song was about aiming to be “Happy Again” and I think I achieved that goal with this one. Hahah. As far as creativity goes, I think this is the best track I’ve done up to this point. I know a lot of artists say this but with each track I release I truly believe I learn a little bit something new about myself as an artist and as a person. Now I’m not going to say that every song going forward is going to be upbeat and happy. That just wouldn’t be true to life for me. But I think “Hold Me Down” is a great trajectory forward for me. I already can’t wait to get back to the studio for single #5! My excitement for the future can’t be contained! Thank you so much for chatting with us! As well as releasing 4 singles, you’ve also put out a couple of music videos! Can you tell us about the concept behind the video from “Hold Me Down”? So this video was shot in Brooklyn, NY by my amazing videographer Matty Labonte of Crown Media Collective. It’s basically just my girlfriend and I having a fun-filled day around Brooklyn. We explored Dumbo Park which is right by the Brooklyn Bridge, got pizza and I got to perform on a rooftop which was super dope. Haha. The concept was just what it is to have a fun-filled day with that special someone who gives you life each and every day. Funny enough I am releasing this track and video on 10.30.19 which is Britt and I’s 3-year anniversary and New York City was where I got the courage to ask her to be my girlfriend. I live in Philly now but I’m originally from Staten Island so I felt like I had home-field advantage asking her out in New York. Hahah it’s a super cool full-circle experience for me and this release works as a pretty sweet anniversary gift too. I hope everyone who checks it out loves it as much as we do. Thanks again for taking the time to speak with me! I hope we can do this again sometime! facebook.com/iamaesthetic93 instagram.com/iamaesthetic93 twitter.com/iamaesthetic93 #BuzzMusic

Stay tuned for more from O’Deriic. Check out O’Deriic’s brand new song “Right Now” here Welcome to BuzzMusic O’Deriic! We're incredibly excited to feature "Right Now"! It's a genuine and honest track that we feel the utmost love for. Where did you draw the inspiration from to curate such a song? Thank you for having me if I were being totally honest it's actually 2 songs in one that my close friend chad and I decided to experiment and push the limit of the sound we were creating. when it came to the lyrics they are mainly based on living in Toronto and my personal view in Canada. Fun fact the beat for the second half of the track is the first beat in reverse slowed down. We can imagine you've been told time and time again how incredible your vocal range is, but we just had to say it again. Did your vocal flow come naturally, or was it crafted over time? First off thank you very much. I started singing from the early age of 3 and I would have to say both singing always came naturally to me but even I can admit without hours of practice either by myself or with the church choir for years I wouldn't be where I am today lyrically or vocally. Can you tell us the predominant message behind "Right Now"? How did you feel writing/recording the track, and how did you intend your listeners to feel? The first part of right now explaining to a female who is not from Toronto exactly how I see my city I generally felt at that time that there was no better time to be a Canadian the 2 part of the song is inviting my female friend to come to live the life. I intended my listeners to feel a little more connected to me given the fact that I was being lyrically vulnerable. How does living in Toronto feed your musical passion on the daily? Do you find that music culture inspires you and your music? I truly believe that where ever you live there's both inspiration and tragedy it's up to you to choose which one you want more of We're highly anticipating the release of "Worth The Wait"! What's the timeline looking like for the release of the EP? I can't lie I'm very excited about it myself and I and my team are thinking next summer no official date yet. facebook.com/oderic.rich instagram.com/o.deriic #BuzzMusic
- Drew The Recluse Releases New EP “Suburbia” Featuring Stand-Out Single “Survive”
Crisp, clean and contemporary sound design meets with quickly addictive songwriting on this latest easy hit from artist and songwriter Drew The Recluse. Leading with a fine balance between melody and rap, a colorful soundscape with an upbeat bounce to it, and a clear-cut, upfront vocal (that’s incredibly refreshing to hear following a string of auto-tune pop hits), “Survive” is a song that gets straight to the point, speaks from the heart, and remains relevant and engaging in its own way right to the end. As an introduction to Drew The Recluse, “Survive” works its magic in an instant. The songwriting and the style shine well, the finish is professional, the structure keeps you interested with various changes from one moment to the next. In addition, though, Drew The Recluse’s voice has something brilliantly genuine about it. There are a tone and style to the delivery that immediately feels fresh, and honest. Even the back and forth between the clean vocal and the distant echo adds something subtle yet effective to the mix. The end result of all of this is a song that fits well amidst today’s musical landscape, but also refuses to fully adhere to the unspoken rules of what creates a hit. That touch of originality should hopefully take Drew The Recluse further and further with each new release. Listen to “Survive” here and read more with Drew The Recluse below! Hey there Drew The Recluse! Welcome to BuzzMusic! “Survive” is category transforming! Tell us how you came to produce this track? I was linking up with Mayay0 at his home in Jersey. He knew I loved guitar samples. As soon as I heard the beat, I got a lot of influence from my life. I work a 9-5 job as most middle-class Americans do. I work paycheck to paycheck and while I’m on that job, I always think about what I could be doing that is way more productive. We know that your music is known for rooting itself in innovation and a sense of modernity. Where do you search for and/or end up finding your inspiration for such contemporary stylings? When it comes from subject matter, I just take from life. I think that if I feel this way, someone else can relate. Fantasies of going from rags to riches, struggling to handle my life paycheck to paycheck. The new American Dream is limited to so many. Many don’t have healthcare. No one has any leisure time to digress. Stress and anxieties. It’s all building up. I use music to digress and get out how I feel. As far as musically, I listen to a wide range of music, but most film scores. Film scores. They emotional guide you through visuals and I mold my music to emotionally guide my audience through how I feel. Your latest release “Suburbia” is definitively lively, with such an eclectic, yet modern take on production. How did you intend to connect with your listeners with this particular project? I think lately in Hip-Hop, we only see one side of the “Black Experience.” I just focus on providing the other side of the coin. Look at an artist like Childish Gambino (Donald Glover), Kanye West, Reo Cragun, who really put their personal lives into their music. They don’t rap about guns and gangs like a lot of the newer music. I grew up in Jackson, rural farmland, I was a nerd in High School. I’m a Star Wars fan. My parents worked hard to help me as they could. That being said, that doesn’t promise me any ease. I make the music I’d want to hear. At the same time, as I said, the American dream and the Suburbia ideology have changed due to the modern-day opioid epidemic, and the influx of people from the city moving down to where I am from. The lines are so blurred now. Things that happen in New York or Chicago do happen in Suburbia. Obviously not that same scale, but they happen. What would you say is the most useful piece of criticism you’ve received thus far within your career? Do you typically take criticism to your advantage? I think the most useful criticism I take with me is asking myself is what I do authentic enough? Does it sound like me? Does it feel like me? I think in order to thrive in music, you have to have your own identity. Especially since there are so many copy cats out there. So many people just want to sound like Drake, or Baby Keem, or Young Thug. Be yourself. It really is important, especially from a business perspective. I want to be “forever,” not a trend, or a fad, here today and gone tomorrow. It was a treat being able to showcase “Survive” on BuzzMusic! We can’t wait to see what else you have in store for us as listeners! What’s the next goal for you artistically within the music world, now that you’ve just released a new EP? We have a new single, nee visual, and full project coming by the end of the year. I want to do more collaborations. I am opening for FUTURISTIC in Asbury Park on November 1st. I am awaiting to hear back from another artist to open for them. I want to keep learning. I just love learning as an independent artist. Just to keep working and not stopping. blacksuburbiamusic.com #BuzzMusic
- Everything You Need To Know About Rickie B's Latest “The Fame”
Hey there Rickie B! Welcome to BuzzMusic! “The Fame” is a category transforming! Tell us how you came to produce this track! Before I answer I’d like to thank you guys for the opportunity to feature me on your site. The production for “The Fame” was actually inspired by my dad. He pitched me with the idea to put some live drums around the sample and from there it just kind of manifested into what you hear today. I also remember being in the zone from listening to this song called “The Rapture” by Fabolous, Torrey Lanez and Jadakiss. It took me about 2 hours to produce that track and after I chopped the main part of the beat, I really just let the beat take over. "Small City Big Dreamz" is definitively lively, with such an eclectic, yet modern take on production. How did you intend to connect with your listeners with this particular project? When I started the production for the album in 2015, I was in the middle of completing my mixtape “The Free Sample”. The first beat I made for the album, “That’s Real”, originally was for the mixtape and so was the “Small City Big Dreamz” title track (which I made the day after). Both beats were so different from what I was doing and I just felt like the direction I was heading in was more progressive and had that album sound. I held off on the production until around 2017 and after finishing the mixtape, I went back and started writing to the Small City, Big Dreamz beat. I was really locked in and just wanted to tell my story of my struggle living in Reno, NV at the time and wanted to just let people know how I went from this confident kid from Vegas to being vulnerable and struggling and just not confident at all; then from that to really just putting my trust in God and just allowing God to build me back up from my mistakes and shortcomings. I felt like it would be the perfect time to allow people in on where I was at in life because I didn’t vocalize it with really anyone in how I felt internally and spiritually. So I allowed my life to speak and I just wanted my come up to inspire someone else. Even to see what I’m doing now from the music to my brand new shoe line that launched a couple of months ago is inspirational for myself as well and just keeps me motivated to keep going and to keep fighting for my family & anyone who looks up to me. This is a track with an abundance of lyrical depth! Tell us more about the meaning of the lyrics within "The Fame! The Fame is one of the deepest songs to me on the project (lyrically). I wrote the intro and the first verse it as if I was penning a letter to my younger self. If you listen early on in the album the sound is kinda confident, cocky and resembles me when I kinda came on the music scene. I thought I was ready for the fame, but I apparently wasn’t. The second verse is more like I’m telling my younger self and the world which path I’m taking and reminding myself to stay true to my roots (which is in God). In the midst of it all, those thoughts of being famous still seem attractive, but the reality of being famous is much more dangerous. Everything that glitters ain’t gold and of course, everyone wants to be rush and famous, but what good is it to be rich and famous if you aren’t going to do combine it with your purpose in life. I’d rather be poor, fulfilling the purpose that God has for me than to be rich and wasting my time running away from my purpose and from my true self. So yea, that’s The Fame. What would you say is the most useful piece of criticism you’ve received thus far within your career? Do you typically take criticism to your advantage? The most useful piece of advice came from my Dad. I’m lucky to have my father in my life, but he told me two things actually... 1. To be true to yourself and be happy doing it. Make sure that what you do in life matches what Christ has intended for you. 2. The best music is timeless... so take your time when creating it, because those types of projects have the best value. I’m forever grateful for my parents in general because both my mom and dad make sure I adhere to those words of advice. As far as criticism goes, I love it. I thrive off of it. It’s provided me with what I need in order to grow. We can get caught up in ourselves so much that we forget to evaluate ourselves. So once I’m provided with that criticism, especially if it’s intended to make me better, I can go back, make adjustments and act on it. It was a treat being able to showcase some of your new music on BuzzMusic! We can’t wait to see what else you have in store for us as listeners! What’s the next goal for you artistically within the music world? To keep creating, growing, and to challenge me in all aspects whether it be lyrical, singing, mixing/mastering, performing, etc. I plan to collab with more up and coming artists as well and to play with different sounds and genres to see how I can incorporate it into my style. I also have my team right with me, so my goal is to help them blow up as well and to really let the world know what Vegas has to offer in general when it comes to music. My city is slept on, but I feel like with the artists we got brewing, we’re about to be the next Mecca. But yea, I got new music coming soon so stay tuned and stay Grandatious. - Melt Away With The Soft Soundings of Su & Sid In Track "Astray"
Neo-soul duo Su & Sid will hypnotize you with their sound. We haven't come across a duo like Su & Sid in some time, which makes it all the sweeter that we did. Forming in Los Angeles, CA, Su & Sid blend their amicable artistic abilities together to create pure art. As a listener, you can expect to receive lighter elements to their music, a tranquil and fully-embodied experience. They add in a sound of enchantment with their music, especially so in their latest EP "Nighttime Daydreaming". The album title is a peak with how you'll feel listening to their soundings, and we're incredibly excited to showcase one of our favorite tracks off of the EP: "Astray". The mellow atmosphere "Astray" introduces you to right away is extremely relaxing. The voices of Su & Sid are absolutely spectacular, in almost every sense. They have the voice that easily glides across your ears, and melts within you. We get that authentic neo-soul sounding from "Astray", and the vocal execution as a whole is what makes this particular song shine. Their dynamics are insane, and once they bring their voices together, it's a kind of blend you never knew you needed. Incorporating a more mature harmony, we find ourselves getting lost in "Astray". That kind of lost where you begin to daydream as you listen along, completely fulfilled in your own personal space and thoughts. "Astray" is a reflective song for sure, and makes us, as listeners, feel all sorts of ways. We ultimately have to say we feel comfortable listening to Su & Sid. They bring in that sense of raw honesty that can make you feel like you're at home, simply by listening to the sound of their harmonies, combined. You'll know you've found a real gem once giving this neo-soul duo a listen to. Let your mind wander with the sound of Su & Sid in "Astray" here. Hello Su&Sid! We're so excited to be featuring you and your latest release "Astray" on BuzzMusic! What was it like moving from India to Los Angeles? Hi guys, thanks for the opportunity! Well as you can imagine, the move was a big deal as it meant not being able to see our families/friends/fans for a while and having to adapt to a whole new country and assimilate into its music scene, but we've been dreaming so long about being working musicians in the center of the entertainment world that the excitement of moving to L.A. beat all our doubt and it seems to be the best decision either of us have made so far. "Astray" is flooded with absolute passion and emotion. What emotions were crucial to channel when creating this song? The crippling sense of being directionless and not in control of your life is what Astray is essentially based on. It was borne of doubt and disconnect, emotions not unfamiliar to the artist, or any thinking, feeling person sometimes. We tried to portray the hidden internal conflict one has while going about their daily lives, unbeknownst to the people around them, while seeking divine or cosmic guidance. It's hard to go through the motions every day of your life without stopping to question it and yourself. This song is about getting lost in the questioning. What predominant message was integrated within "Astray" that you hope your listeners take away from it? This song wasn't written with the intention of delivering a specific message, it just allows you to vent. But if there is message it would be that we spend too much energy trying to figure out what we're 'meant to do' and should probably just take a breath, search for personal happiness (a whole other ordeal, we know) and purpose will meet you in the middle. The vocals in "Astray" are absolutely breath-taking! Have you had any professional training? How have you honed your vocal style overtime? Aw, thank you. Yes, I (Su) had been trained in South Indian classical music for 8 years as a child, which really strengthened my voice. After that, I was in various choruses and bands and completed a performance course at MI. Besides that its just years of experience and an inclination to music. My vocal style comes from my mixed influences from Billie Holiday to Chris Cornell to Stevie Nicks to Chaka Kahn, with a slight Indian touch that I can't really help. RnB/Soul and jazz are what my voice leaned toward as I grew. As a debut single, "Astray" leaves a huge impact on listeners! What can you tell us about your upcoming 4-song EP "Nighttime DayDreaming"!? As the title suggests, the E.P. is a collection of the free thoughts you have after sunset. As the day winds down you revisit all the things weighing on your mind, whether it is the search for something more, or worry for someone close, or the loss of someone dear. We've found that it is during this time of day that you're most honest with yourself. The rest of the songs in the collection play with your emotions a bit, as some of them are comfort songs and some are more agonizingly hypnotizing than 'Astray'. Our second single 'State of Mind' is almost a response to Astray as it reassures the listener with its upbeat nature. You'll be able to hear this one by the end of October! Thank you so much for talking with us about your single and creative process. Can you describe how your performances feel? Do you enjoy live shows, or do you prefer the actual songwriting process? Also, any live shows coming up in the near future?! Our performances are immersive and intimate, it's a whole different thing to play your feelings to a crowd face to face compared to a recording, but we absolutely love it!!! We're always left feeling bonded with our listeners after a show. We love both performing and writing but they take turns being the preferred outlet. We've been expanding some of our live sets with live-looping and special guest performers and have a bunch of shows coming up in November. We are VERY excited about it so stay tuned to our socials! :) Keep in tune with Su & Sid through their social media below! Facebook Instagram #BuzzMusic
- Electro Indie-Pop and Folk With Calathea
Calathea is a new electronic indie-pop project created from the mind of just one man. Producer and songwriter Mitchell Johnson stands at the helm and has brought quite a sound to fruition. Using his music as an outlet, the "Desiderium" EP is a combination of catchy pop and folk songs all rolled up into one record. While songs like "Vessel Walls" take on the indie-pop grooves, others like "The Sick List" are more acoustic guitar-focused and it all seems to flow together flawlessly. All the tracks feel like they are based on life situations and realism. An inspiring record especially in the sense that it's okay to just write what you write and see what happens and still have it all work out. An in-depth delving into the mind of the songwriter and at times even ourselves. Check out "Desiderium" here. - Premiere: “Maybe” By Joanna Gabrielle Showcases Angelic Vocals And Lyrical Versatility
Singing for the better part of her 15-year-old life, Joanna Gabrielle is an up and coming singer/songwriter from Alexandria, Virginia. When Joanna Gabrielle began having classical vocal training at the age of 12, she never imagined that it would turn into something she could pursue until she was discovered by Nashville-based producer, Shannon McArthur (Dashboard Confessional), this past June. In August, Joanna recorded her debut EP and now she releases her brand new single “Maybe”! “Maybe” is gorgeously easy-going, and drives with a sense of optimism and love for life but at the same time the overall sound and style leans off in its own notably pop-like direction. This artistic choice works beautifully considering the context and the story-line. Joanna Gabrielle lays out the scenes for this one, utilizing detail and imagery to a powerful extent as “Maybe” moves along towards the ultimate resolve of its hook. “Maybe” focuses on the confusion of not knowing whether or not to dive into a relationship when you don’t fully know the other person. Joanna captures the emotion through her heartfelt songwriting and passionate delivery. Beautifully set-up, beautifully written, flawlessly performed. A lovely new single from an artist who rightfully shows no signs of slowing down. Check out “Maybe” here and read more with Joanna Gabrielle below! We’re really vibing with your new single! What does your track “Maybe” mean to you? What inspired this song? Thank you so much! This song is pretty special to me because it really resonates with a common theme that many of us are faced with on a day-to-day basis: commitment. This song goes through all the “what if’s?” and “maybe’s” (haha) that accompany that first decision to jump headfirst into the unknown territory of love. I’m young, fifteen to be exact, so I’ve still yet to experience that Great Love that everyone’s been talking about, but I can definitely relate to the initial anxieties of getting to know someone. I think the hopeless romantic in all of us likes to hope, even for a bit, that everyone we meet might be it, “the one”, and I’m no exception. I wanted to create a song that would talk about the reality and uncertainties of love, rather than the idealized joys of being in love. Who has had the biggest influence on your life musically thus far? Can you describe the impact this particular individual has had in terms of your new song “Maybe? I couldn’t say that I’ve had one big musical influence on my life, as I’ve had so many; Ariana Grande, Sara Bareilles, and even Hannah Montana, just to name a few. But if I had to choose one person who continuously inspires my music, I’d have to choose Taylor Swift. I’m proud to say that I was around at the height of her career, and those OG songs straight off of Fearless and Red definitely shaped most of my childhood playlists. Stylistically, I tend to turn more to the modern, R&B tracks of Ariana Grande, Beyoncé, and Sabrina Carpenter, but there’s something about the rawness behind Taylor’s lyrics that really resonate with me. Writing music is relatively new to me, and writing from experience is pretty much all I know. To be able to look up to an artist who not only swears by it but built her career in doing just that is one of my biggest inspirations. In Maybe, and every other song on my EP, I tried to stay authentic, appealing to real emotions and experiences, in the way that Taylor continues to do every day. You've had such a strong love and passion for music at such a young age! How do you think you and your music have grown since you first started writing, versus now? Oh gosh, well I may have lied about the “being new to writing” thing. When I think about it, I’ve been writing since I was six. I was a huge Disney Channel kid, and Hannah Montana was basically the only thing I watched. Funnily enough, it was Miley Cyrus’ character that inspired me to first start singing. I wanted to be a pop star, so I would take this little Hello Kitty notebook around with me everywhere and write these songs about things I didn’t really understand, and makeup melodies that I would forget in five minutes. Unfortunately, around age eight, reality started to pour into my ambitions and I vainly attempted to turn my attention towards medicine or something “useful”. But, me being me, when I was twelve, I was plunged straight back into the world of singing through musical theater. Suddenly I was surrounded by these lush scores and creative minds, and soon enough I was bursting with inspiration. I bought my first ukulele and immediately attempted writing songs in a very Dodie Clark-esque fashion. I wrote a few songs, none really being that great, but there was one in particular that I started writing, and eventually didn’t finish until two years later (and it happens to be on this EP :)) I stopped writing for a bit, until this past summer where I surprised myself with just how easily I could write. I guess years of singing and jamming along with my favorite songs paid off, because all of a sudden, I was taking these popular themes and structures and channeling them towards my music. All I can say, I guess, is that fifteen-year-old me did it a whole lot better than six-year-old me and twelve-year-old me ever did. Thank you so much for chatting with us! What are you working on through the end of 2019? Of course, it was my pleasure really! Right now I’m back in school just trying to survive tenth grade. But the music definitely isn’t stopping because of that. If anything, I’ve had a considerable amount of inspiration ever since I hopped off the plane from Nashville. So far I’ve just been trying to hone my songwriting skills, while simultaneously teaching myself guitar (writing with the same six chords isn’t really cutting it for me anymore). I’m really looking forward to releasing all of the music off of this first EP, and once that’s done, I’m hoping to jump straight towards my second one, and this time I want to experience with different styles. I’ve already written several songs that I think would take that EP in a completely different direction. This whole experience has been a dream, and I’d hate to think that it ends after my EP’s out into the world. instagram.com/joannaagabrielle twitter.com/joannagabrii facebook.com/joanna.gabrielle.549 #BuzzMusic
