  • Get “Faded” With Aaron Martyn’s Latest Track

Talented sing/songwriter Aaron Martyn is making his name known. Aaron made a huge personal sacrifice to pursue his passion for music. A naturally gifted footballer, he was scouted at nine years old and played for top clubs all by the age of twelve. In 2015, Aaron sat in his dad’s studio (Darren Martyn/DM Unsigned Ltd) and plucked up the courage to say how much he wanted to be a singer. Eight months later Aaron released his cover version of ‘Drake – One Dance’ stacking up nearly 140,000 views. On his 13th birthday, Aaron released his 1st free download EP ‘Thirteen’. The debut record ‘Tears Don’t Dry’ premiered on Link Up TV and made a stamp on the urban music scene. Since that moment Aaron has been making waves in the music industry in a big way. “Faded” is the brand new UKG/R&B single to be released penned by himself and Darren Martyn (Tom Zanetti/M.O/Krept and Konan). Produced by Darren Martyn. A talented vocalist, Aaron showcases his unique and individual tone in “Faded". He changes things up by delivering flawless lyricism through every verse to prove his versatility and the authentic flare to his artistry. “Faded” is layered with elements of funk and an old-school flare thanks to Aaron diversity and versatility. The delicious urban pop track “Faded” is being added to my personal playlist and I highly recommend you do the same! Check out “Faded” here and read more below in our exclusive interview. Hi Aaron! Welcome to BuzzMusic! How did you know that music was your passion? I’ve always been around music from the day I was born, I guess it’s in my DNA. There was a point in my life where everything was going sideways in my football career. The pressure took the love out of it and I felt a little lost. Then one day I asked my Dad to do a cover of 'Drake’s - One Dance’ in his studio. I recorded it and it went viral! I carried on recording covers, eventually some original songs and really started to enjoy the process. What do you hope your listeners take away from “Faded”? I want them to know that they aren’t the only ones going through a tough relationship. I want them to connect to the lyrics and sing them melodies where ever they go. Not only that, I also want them to know that I’m serious about my music and I want to take things to the next level. What was the writing process for this song? What inspired it? A sketch of the beat was made and the the word ‘Faded' naturally came to mind. It sang well and I loved it as a title. This led to a conversation about how this could relate to relationships. We started brainstorming and figured out a message that could be universally felt. After a full session of singing out melodies, writing lyrics and recording a rough guide. ‘Faded’ was born! What challenges have you faced being an up and comer artist? It’s a tough game! Being young has it's a pluses and minuses. I found that because my music doesn’t fit into the boxes of what everyone else is doing, the support is hard to get. You can easily lose who you are in the music business trying to keep up with everyone else. I had my time in that and found that the more I was trying to fit in the more I was losing my self. Hype only lasts for a little while so it’s the biggest challenge is keeping your fans interested and updated all the time. What can your fans expect from you next? Well I've been writing lots of new music this summer. We already have some strong follow up records and I’m so excited to share it! Stay connected with AARON MARTYN through his Instagram! #BuzzMusic

Kruel Summer's authentic music follows a unique mix of sounds which include influences of Reggae, Indie Rock and Hip Hop. The vision is to produce catchy, chill, sing along Summer vibes all year round. Lead singer Clev Stiles’ lyrics follow a good time summer vibe. Kruel Summer is currently in the studio working on their debut LP which is target to drop spring of 2020. “Back Then” is a catchy and cheeky new tune that expertly showcases the flawless blend of Indie Rock and Hip-Hop. Kruel Summer’s lyricism is clever and quick witted as they weave through storytelling elements. The infectious guitar riff’s layered with the melodic backbeats demand to be heard. “Back Then” demands attention with its chill summer vibe and retrospective lyricism. Kruel Summer has a contagious chemistry that makes anyone want to groove along to their mellow tunes. I love the light-heartedness that spreads a positive energy out of the speakers. Kruel Summer has made an incredible launch into the music industry with their debut single “Back Then” and we can’t wait to hear more! Listen to “Back Then” here and read more below in our exclusive interview! Hey Kruel Summer! Thanks for chatting with us! How did Kruel Summer come together? Did you know each other before the band formed? Clev: Kyle Christensen, my bass player, and I played in another band called "The Holdup" for many years. We parted ways with The Holdup to start this new project Kruel Summer. He joined me early on in the project and has been one of my best friends for years. We always knew we would play music together. My guitar players, Ben Dimmitt and Sergio Elisondo, have always been close friends of mine, but we never really jammed until I started writing Kruel Summer songs. We quickly started jamming ideas in the garage and solidifying a vibe and direction. Ben and Sergio were a huge part of why I actually got the project off the ground. They put in a lot of hours practicing in the garage with me, and I cannot thank them enough for pushing and believing in me. I met our drummer Shane Billings at a Coast Modern concert. He approached me as a fan of our previous band. He wanted to audition for Kruel Summer and said he could start right away. At the time I didn’t think we were ready for a drummer but I agreed to meet and give it a shot. That following week, we all got together and jammed as a band for the first time. The chemistry and vibe was perfect. We knew right away Shane was our guy. We made it official and finalized the lineup. How does living in California inspire your sound? Clev: Being born and raised in California I can’t really picture living anywhere else. The diversity of people and all the different influences in music and art here heavily influence the Kruel Summer sound. I grew up listening to every genre you can think of punk, reggae, ska, indie rock, soul, pop, hip hop, you name it, and I think when you play back the tracks you will get a little of everything. The songs end up having that natural laid back beach vibe, but it's meshed with different sounds including indie riffs over 808's drums layer over an acoustic guitar with melodic pop style vocals. It's a blend of everything "cool" that I grew up listening to as a kid. What’s the meaning behind your track “Back Then”? What inspired it? Clev: The chorus/hook "I don't know you like I did back then" was written before the verses... I had been going through a transition of circles of friends and it was just a line that I would find myself repeating to myself in my head, it was fitting to what was going on at the time. When I started working on the actual song and it's verses, I wanted to explain more of a story that would resonate with listeners in situations they are most likely experiencing or have experienced in the past. Back Then is about struggling between keeping a friendship/relationship or letting it go. It’s about that someone who switched up on you and is no longer the same person you once knew. Do you work on it, keep trying, or just let it go? Things won’t ever seem to be the same, like they were back then. What challenges have you faced as up and coming artists? How do you overcome these challenges? Clev: For me personally, it's been the effort in proving myself, showing I can lead and front a band. This is my first time ever attempting to sing and play guitar as a lead singer. I never once thought in my life I would end up on this side of the stage. I always worked behind the scenes, managing artists, producing or DJ'ing. I searched from 2014-2018 for a lead singer who had the vibe to front my project, unfortunately, I was never able to find a someone who understood the vision and sound I was trying to create. The chemistry was simply not there. I finally came to a crossroad in early 2018, in which I needed to decide, If I was either going to trash this project or attempt to do it myself. After contemplating all the pros, cons, fears and doubts (mostly doubts), I decided… Why not? I truly believed the content was fresh, the melodies were there, I had the vision and knew what sounded good. What's the worst that can happen I asked myself...I get a few haters, no plays, no views, no likes.. Whatever.. I was going to work hard and put myself out there and whatever happens, happens. I recorded a few scratch demos and shared them to small groups of listeners, and to my surprise they were actually receptive. At that point I knew I had to stop second guessing myself and just follow my heart. Thats the only way anyone will ever over come any challenge, trust yourself and just do it. No matter what it takes, do it. What overall theme can your listeners expect from your upcoming debut LP? Clev: Listeners can expect a nice mash up of new sounds and mixed genres. Fun, feel good music that fits the perfect summer day party. True stories of growing up, fucking up, learning and moving on. The theme will be always be fun yet meaningful. I guess at the end of the day I am more curious to know what the listeners felt the overall theme and message was. I have no idea or expectations as to where this is going, I just know listeners will connect, resonate and enjoy the journey. Maybe ask me this question next year when the full album drops. Raw, refreshing, and genuine are only a few chosen words to describe the artistry of Roni Marsalis. Born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, Roni decided to attend The University of Missouri- Columbia and study interior design. After recording a few tracks and performing in Atlanta, at 19 years young Roni packed up everything she owned and moved to New York City to become a star in her own right. Roni found out that obstacles were inevitable and was forced to move back home. She had accomplished many great successes in New York and continued to work on her craft and was even called to perform onstage with John Legend at the SXSW music festival. Now located in Los Angeles, California Roni continues to work on her craft and the rest is still being written. Although, she is learning what it truly means to not count yourself out. Check out “Nine Lives” here and keep scrolling for our exclusive interview with Roni Marsalis. Hi Roni Marsalis! Can you tell us more about yourself? Well, I’m from Kansas City, Mo originally & I started as a spoken-word poet before I decided to pursue music. I’ve always been into entertainment and creating. I have a fashion certificate and graduated high school with a diploma in Dance. In 2014 I moved and lived in NYC for a little while and was on BET speaking on Muhammad Ali’s impact on my life & when I left to move back home I was called to perform with John Legend at SXSW in 2016. Since then I have continued to perform and work on music, and as of now I’m celebrating my birthday this Sunday! & preparing to embrace better with my career. When did you move to Los Angeles? I moved to LA in January of 2017 for school and my career. We love your track “Nine Lives”. What was the writing process like for this song? Well the first verse was written in 2016 and the second verse was written a couple of months ago during my recording session. Usually beats that I hear tell stories already and I felt the story I needed to tell matched perfectly. I was in a really resentful place at the time and felt like I was failing at life, but a part of me also felt empowered at the same time because I became a woman with a different type of ambition and mentality. I used to be really naive and scared to be different at one point in my life and I felt like I needed to inspire myself. So I thought to myself I’m a cat with nine lives, I have the power, I have to empower myself. & The destiny’s child song Bills, Bills, Bills instantly came to mind when I was done with the first verse, it just felt right to do. I felt like them during the process of writing this song & it reflects. I felt growth during this process. Who are your top three biggest musical influences? Top 3??? -Floetry -J Cole -Toni Braxton for sure. What’s your fan base like in LA? I’m a fairly new artist out here, but I will say those who are fans of my music out here are really supportive and very diverse people. I met a lot of my fans as co-workers, classmates, or just from going out. Do you perform often? I perform about once a month at least. & sometimes I perform more, but I have a really busy school and work schedule and to set up shows and perform gets a little exhausting because it requires so much of my energy, but I do plan to perform much more since I’ll only be taking one class this semester. What’s next for Roni Marsalis? I am currently working on a music video for Nine Lives, a few singles and an album. I’m also exploring new ventures other than music, I have custom writers journals and I am designing a new version of them. Once I’m done with this album I think my focus will be geared more towards my journals. Stay connected with Roni via the artists socials: Instagram Twitter #BuzzMusic

Im never into following trends, I just like to be myself and create organically without thinking about format and fitting some imaginary standard. Well for this song @Deezy_Baby and I were just in a mood of we don't care what everyone else is doing or what labels are asking us to do, we jus wanna have fun and talk about our life at the moment. The process of this song started with Deezy making the beat then I basically went into the booth turned the mic on and started to freestyle for a bit. I then came up with the hook for the song and a rough idea of the verses. I like to have days where I just do a lot of hooks so I ended up stopping there and taking it home to write it. I came back the next day, recorded the verses mixed the song and played it bout about 40 times lol. What’s next for StarChild Yeezo? • Getting To Know Jenna Leigh-Raine

Welcome Jenna Leigh-Raine to BuzzMusic! Congratulations on your publishing deal. Are there any major differences between creating music for cinema as opposed to your individual music? Well it's an odd thing. I was originally commissioned in a previous deal to create an hour of spiritual music which became my last album Noma. It was like going back to college as film music and modern film score sound design is such a discipline. On Area, I wanted to just play punk rock. I was exhausted with the detail of film but ended up combining electronic film music with punk rock. I ended up with a huge wall of sound. How did you manage to work through the obstacles you were faced with as an artist? What has been the most challenging for you so far? I lost my actual speaking voice over four years ago and underwent up to three separate operations to save it with huge gaps in between. So when it came to recording vocals on the new album, I would record up to fifty takes per verse, chorus bridge & middle 8. I am a producer and engineer too,  so I didn't really have many issues but for some exhaustion. I have been a recording a trilogy of albums, back-to-back since 2016 and am already mixing track one of the next album. Which track off your album “AREA” do you feel is most impactful to its listener? Possibly "Profound", which is actually what the album is meant to evoke. Yet others such as "Importance Of Being Zero" and "Hello Discovery" are hugely impactful too, but check out "Rebel Still Runs". In what ways does your music serve as a reflection of who you are as an artist? I am my own worst critic. I change and discuss between myself - ‘’Oh, it should be more harder in terms of sound, darker or sentiment." But I think it captures me totally at that time. The album is a description of escapism, a sense of being alone, only you to keep yourself alive. It's raw, brutal, real and I hope, original. We know you’re destined for greatness & we’re looking forward to so much from you Jenna Leigh-Raine! What can we expect in the future? I am currently mixing a track called Connection. I think it shows my sound at its finest in three minutes. It's huge a wall of anthematic, electronic punk rock. It's very uplifting but uneasy in theme about how we will keep ourselves alive, in an underground world run by a dark state of men. a time to hide. I was listening to lots of music throughout making Area, out this fall, such as music from the Bladerunner 2049 soundtrack, Arcadia, Duran Duran, Sex Pistols, Joan Jett, Pat Benetar, Avril Lavigne - who I adore - and of course, Gary Numan, my ultimate music great. • EXCLUSIVE: Getting To Know Chéri Yielle

Welcome to BuzzMusic Chéri Yielle! we're happy to share your music with our readers. New York birthed many legends in the music industry. Tell us how was your experience growing up in a talent-filled city like this? How were you inspired? Being born in Queens and moving to Long Island as a child, New York reflected so many stories that motivated me to take full ownership of how I write my own. My parents are such a NY melting pot American dream - a young Brooklyn chick with a single mother, and a hard working immigrant from Haiti fell in love and got the house they wanted to raise their kids in so that they could dream the wildest dreams. There's a lot of pressure in NY to be competitive, hungry, persistent, and persevere. There are no excuses in NY because someone else is working hard while you're sleeping. The talent is everywhere, and you learn so much from working together and working to be better. I'm inspired by that passion. I love meeting other artists and seeing other people grow and do great. It's so progressive, and it makes me never want to slack. Progress has to be made somewhere all the time. There are always more ways to grow. There's always something more to say, some other way to say it, some other way to sing it, play it, etc. The idea that there is more and that it's my duty and purpose to go and get it is as energizing and motivating as it is intimidating. It really makes you face your fears or quit, and quitting isn't an option. Let's talk about your music. Knowing you fell in love with the co-writer to "In The Sky", how was this connection & chemistry beneficial for you to the emotion presented in the record? Yeah, it was such a sweet experience to have. We were already in a relationship and he just came to this writing session with me. We wrote it so smoothly, bouncing ideas off each other while the first producer started building the beat. It was like a movie scene, just a pure and sweet moment of fun. So easy to write!  It adds such a sentiment to a relatively light song, but I think I'll always appreciate performing it because it's like a souvenir of the feeling of being in a blissful and hopeful love. That's a lot of real energy that I hope my audience receives and feels within themselves - a moment of joy, peace, and hope. You've been through so many struggles and we commend how brave you are to share these obstacles in your life! What has been the biggest lesson you've learned and how has it impacted your career? There are so many lessons... but I think the biggest one is that you can not control anything outside of yourself... not even what happens to you. You can only control whatever is within the power of your own mind and heart, how you respond to what happens around you, and what you choose to share. There is purpose and connection with those decisions, and that's all you really have. That's the ink you use to write your story, so write it as fully as you can. Word is that you have an upcoming video to your singles "In The Sky" and "Off The Rim". What is it that we can expect from these visuals? Do you have any specific concepts in mind? I'm excited because they actually aren't singles, but the combination of those two really embody the feelings of love and loss that are felt throughout the EP. There's going to be a lot of passion and emotion, and I'm definitely being more vulnerable and putting more of myself out there than my first two videos. I'm excited to share the experience with those who connect with my music in this really transparent way. What's next for you Chéri Yielle? More music, and definitely more live performances. I have new music in the works, so I'll definitely be back at the studio in the fall. It'll be a different side of me and different chapters of the story will be told. Thank you so much for your questions and your support! Connect with Chéri Yielle on social media www.instagram.com/cheriyielle www.twitter.com/cheriyielle #BuzzMusic

  • A.Y.E Is Changing The Hip-Hop Game With “Sun Days”

Jahimba Hutson, better known for his professional name A.Y.E. was born into a musical family, getting an early start on stage performing with his father’s rasta reggae band Strugglah as keyboardist & emcee, while in junior high. The band shared the stage with such luminaries as the Wailers, Burning Spear and Jimmy Cliff. A young A.Y.E. watched carefully, listening and learning first-hand from Strugglah. A.Y.E. was born in Calgary, and raised in Vancouver, Montreal and Calgary exposing him to eclectic musical influences including Bob Marley, Nas, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Supercat, Common, Jay-Z, Tribe Called Quest, Kardinal Official, Steel Pulse, Lincoln Park, Agustus Pablo, Sly & Robbie, and Jacob Miller, to mention but a few. Upon releasing his first EP “Goodbye” in 2012 he was quickly identified by national publications and bloggers as one of Western Canada’s young emerging talents. We took a listen to “Sun Days” and A.Y.E. did more than just simply impress us! He completely transformed us into fans of his. The articulation of his bars are on point, showing skills of a veteran rapper. The lyrical content that was provided in the music, gave a new dimension and insight to the artistry of A.Y.E. His unique vocal tone when he raps shows slight elements of rasp and grit, this gave the delivery a more experienced appeal to it. How did you come up with your stage name? Thank you. I came up with my name around the age of 16 or 17 in high school and at the time I was practicing the Islam faith. The Muslim name given to me was Aleem which means knowledgeable in Arabic. I shortened that to just the letter "A" and from there I created the acronym A Young Extraordinaire. I feel like we are all extraordinary people in some way, this is how my backing band The Extraordinary Gentlemen and the collective Extraordinary People World came to be. The collective was built to help cultivate community, inspire creativity. and invigorate originality. It strives on pushing the boundaries of thinking outside the box, being unique, and embracing oneself. Can you tell us more about the meaning of your track “Sun Days”? What inspired your writing process? Yes. Sun Days is a special record to me mainly because of what it represents and the person who has inspired it. Every Sunday there is always something cooking in the kitchen at my mothers house. Friends, family, music, good food and good laughs are the perfect recipe to a Sunday which is what inspired the whole writing process. There's nothing more important then friends and family and the joy they bring - growing together through the good times and the bad. This song is actually dedicated to and of course inspired by my mother. The new Sun Days music video is out now! How does the music you make now compare to music you made when you first started out? I've always made a effort to put my life in my music and be comfortable with being myself but that can be tough sometimes with everything thats going on in the hip-hop landscape. A lot of my older stuff was just me getting my feet wet, exploring, learning an slowly discovering who I was becoming as a person and a artist. The new music I'm really focusing on creating body's of work that are timeless rather then what sounds cool or trending at the time - creating my own sound and lane. This new album Soul Food the Audiobiography Of.. is a major step up from my previous material. From the production, the writing, the recording, all the way to the creative direction it all feels right and organic now. Who are you top three musical influences? Why? Bob Marley is definitely a major influence within my music and life, ever since I was child my father always had reggae playing in the house and I always gravitated to Bob Marley & The Wailers for the music and message. Nas is my second, the Illmatic album was a huge influence when I was younger hearing boom bap for the first time it changed my life, he opened the window for me to so many other great hip-hop artist at that time such as Common, Tribe Called Quest, Pete Rock, Gang Starr, and the list goes on. Marvin Gaye or Chaka Khan would be my third, probably because their music does something to your soul which has inspired me to create that same thing within my music, my mother would play them at home on the weekend all the time too. What would be your dream venue to perform? That's a tough one, my dream venue to perform in would have to be the Apollo Theater in New York. Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter, bassist and actress Heather Youmans marries powerful, soulful vocals with raw storytelling elements, looking at honest life moments and emotions. Heather performs at Southern California venues (W Hotel Hollywood, The Hotel Cafe, The Viper Room, The Study, The Avalon, Dolby Theatre, Hotel Casa Del Mar) with her husband and guitar player Jon MacLennan, guitarist for Julian Lennon, John Popper of Blues Traveler and Steven Tyler. While continuing to perform and further her career, she records as a session singer with incredible soul and talent and is currently writing and recording a new EP. With new music on the horizon, she’s now taking the chance to share her story, unfiltered and unapologetically. “My Kind Of Trouble” is Heather Youmans newest single and we can’t get enough. Her powerful live recording is what sets her apart from artists today. It’s raw, honest, and beautifully stripped down to showcase Heather's authentic vocals and incredible register. The angelic tones she exudes are admirable and prove her ability as a powerhouse vocalist. “My Kind Of Trouble” is a light-hearted love anthem. Although Heather worked through a few recording sessions of this track, she ultimately decided that the first times a charm and provided the realest experience for her listeners and fans. We love her authentic flare and individuality she infuses into her music and we can’t wait to hear what’s next. Check out “My Kind Of Trouble” here and read more below in our exclusive interview! Hey Heather! Can you start by telling our readers about your upbringing and how you got started making music? I'm originally from San Diego and grew up in a very musical family. My mom sings, and my dad plays the drums. Both of my brothers play the saxophone, and one of them just joined the United States Army as a musician. It goes without saying that music chose all of us. I've been singing and performing in musical theatre since I was a little girl and picked up the electric bass and started writing songs as a teenager. Most of my teenage years were spent growing up in a recording studio with some of the industry's best mixers, engineers and session musicians. I met many of my idols early on, like Sting and the late Natalie Cole, and got the chance to sing on Flicka and Marley & Me movie sequels. I was so lucky have an outlet for my music early on, but the songs I’m writing and performing now represent the woman, songwriter and artist I have become in the past decade. Great love, loss, pain and triumph have all shaped the music I'm creating today, and I'm grateful for those life experiences that led me to this point. How do you draw inspiration from your wide variety of influences? I really do have a wide range of influences, from Alanis Morissette, Sheryl Crow and Heart to Joss Stone, Fiona Apple, James Morrison and Amos Lee. I love Alanis' message. I love Joss Stone's soulful vocals. I love the raw, open and emotional quality of Fiona Apple's songwriting. I love the groove of so many Amos Lee songs. Whenever I hear music that inspires me, I tuck a little piece of it away in my mind, and when the time is right, it will manifest itself through my vocal choices and songwriting. It's all subconscious and hard to explain. So much of the pop sensibility in my writing comes from listening to P!nk and Kelly Clarkson - two of my favorite singers. Even though P!nk and Kelly are both pop-rock artists, they often venture into more country and R&B music from time to time. I really like that, and take a similar approach in my music. I never want to be constrained to any one genre or put in a box. I don't want to make music the way I think other people want to hear it. When I make music for me without thinking about external expectations, that's when I produce my most honest and relatable work. The songs I've written for my EP are only available as stripped-back acoustic versions right now, which makes the music sound like acoustic/pop or pop/country. As they take shape with a full band later this year, listeners will hear more of my soul and rock influences come out. We love “My Kind Of Trouble”! Can you talk about the meaning of the lyrics? "My Kind of Trouble" was written for anyone out there who has felt drawn to someone, who they know is just trouble. The song is about untimely fatal attraction, and it explores the emotional rollercoaster that ensues when desires of the heart override logic. One of my favorite lyrics in the song is "Do you believe in the one that got away, oh no the one who didn't stay - just the one who came too late." There are so many songs out there written about "the one that got away," but "My Kind of Trouble" doesn't focus on the person that slipped through our fingers, but the one who came along a little too late for any relationship to really materialize or be explored. There's a lot of conflict baked into this tune, even though it sounds very positive, musically. That's the irony. What do you hope your listeners take away from this song? I hope someone listens to "My Kind of Trouble" and uses it as a means to finding peace in turbulent love or heartbreak. Love is hard. Love is complicated. Love doesn't always turn out as planned. It's something we all go through in one way or another. I hope listeners find resolve in sharing this piece of the human experience together. What’s next for you? Honestly, I'm just trying to write as much new music as I can, and I feel more driven than ever to collaborate with other musicians that inspire me. I’ll be releasing two EPs in early 2020. The first will include live performances of original music and covers from a show I played at The Hotel Cafe in May. The second will feature all-new original music - including "My Kind of Trouble" - produced by my husband, Jon MacLennan. I’ve been releasing stripped-down, live music videos for some of the songs on YouTube.
