- Riley Rager Provides A Cool, Calm and Collected Sound With "Acid Rain"
Hailing from Gettysburg, PA, Riley Rager is the type of indie/rock artist that is able to provide musical offerings fitting to the genre, but capturing elements that we didn't even know the genre needed. Riley uplifts listeners with his music, providing his singer/songwriter/musician qualities to transform the category his music predominantly falls into. Knowing music was for him at suh a young age, Riley Rager has been exposed to the music industry early on, and takes his profound experiences to shape what his music is like today. Riley sets out to take his listeners on a journey with his music, putting out musical stylings that take the listener to another atmosphere. Riley Rager has a killer execution with all of his tracks, most especially his debut album "Subminial Swimming Pool". Our personal favorite track off of the EP: "Acid Rain". You know when you first hear the initial beat to a track, and you immediately go "this is my kind of track"? That's the type of feeling we get when listening to Riley's recent release "Acid Rain". It's alternative/indie-rock elements are showcased in the most brilliant way. With more of a modern twist on his music, Riley Rager is able to blend together a variety of alternative elements that are absolutely fitting for the type of track "Acid Rain" is. The atmosphere to Riley's tracks is undoubtedly laidback and care-free. I think it's safe to say that we all need those kinds of tracks on our playlists from time to time, and Riley's "Acid Rain" should be that exact track we find on your playlists! Integrating some more heavy-hitting guitar riffs throughout "Acid Rain", Riley is able to take on a more aggressive production with his soothing vocalism. Riley Rager's voice holds honesty and authenticity--combined with his ability to sing (really sing), we must say "Acid Rain" impresses us with it's musical stylings, and has already been added to our Spotify playlist! Discover Riley's "Acid Rain" here, and continue reading for this artists exclusive interview! Hey Riley! Welcome to the BuzzMusic community! Tell us more about you and how you developed as an artist! It's a pleasure to be here! I've been playing music since I was nine years old, starting with drums and moving to guitar, bass, and vocals. In fact, I played every instrument that you hear on the new EP. "Acid Rain” had a strong lyrical presence to it. What was the theme behind this record? What motivated you to write the track? I wrote Acid Rain in my garage after a trip to Puerto Rico. All the palm trees and the ocean really inspired me. At the time, I was primarily influenced by indie rock and surf rock artists like Local Natives and Palma Violets, so the bright, reverb-drenched, beach sound felt natural. Acid Rain is about the feeling of stepping outside into the sunshine after being cooped up in the house all day. Or, on a heavier note, it's about being trapped in a rut and the difficulty of trying to escape. "My skin is sizzlin'; I walk to the door again; I will hold my breath; Until this day ends" translates to: I've stepped outside and tried to change, but the pain of change is so intense that I end up staying the same. Subliminal Swimming Pool is a concept album, depicting one who is slipping into a rut, hits a low point, and, by the end of the album, recovers from the hard times and is better than he ever was before. Acid Rain is the beginning of the EP and the beginning of the rut, but by the last song, the main character has gotten to a point where the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change. He has confronted his demons and moved on. How would you say the music you make now compares to music you made when you first started out? My style has been evolving for years. I've written metalcore riffs, mellow acoustic songs, and various other kinds. However, when I wrote Acid Rain, everything clicked and finally felt natural. It was the first song I wrote that actually felt like me. Every other song on the EP came shortly afterwards, following the same vain of music Acid Rain is in. Elements of alternative rock, surf rock, and indie rock are all prevalent in my sound, so it's hard to for me to categorize it. But what I do know is that right now, this sound feels right. While curating your debut EP Subliminal Swimming Pool, did you come across any creative blocks? If you ever come across creative blocks with creating your sound, how do you typically surpass them? Yes, I ran into several creative blocks. In the midst of writing and recording this EP, I graduated college, moved away from my hometown of Hanover, PA, to Ocean City, MD, and then to Gettysburg, PA. A lot was going on in my life socially, emotionally, mentally, spiritually... all fronts. I took a break from working on it for many months due to lack of inspiration and motivation. In an effort to regain the fire for life and for writing, I took a three week road trip across the country with my buddy, Justin Kollars. We drove from Pennsylvania to California and visited everywhere in between. Justin owns The Shed Productions, which is where he recorded, mixed, and mastered Subliminal Swimming Pool. Though this road trip helped spark creativity, it was still another year until the EP was finished. Lots of blood, sweat, and tears went into this. It was a rough time. But all the failures, all the mistakes, all the changes, all the battles with anxiety that I had to overcome cranked out a killer EP that I am incredibly proud of, and I learned a lot from it. What's on the rise for you next as an artist? I'll be staying on the grind! I have some songs slated up to release next, but for right now, I'm focusing on getting this EP to as many ears as possible. There is definitely more to come as I keep growing, learning, and evolving as a musician and as a human. I have a broad range of influences, from surf rock to hip hop and lo-fi, and I can pretty much guarantee that future releases are going to incorporate some sort of crazy crossover between those. I'm looking forward to what's next. Trust me, this is just the beginning. Connect with Riley Rager on social media www.instagram.com/rileyrager

Can you start by telling our readers more about yourself and your upbringing into music? Yooo! Sure thing, hello hi aloha everybody. My name is GR3YWXLF (pronounced grey wolf but spelt fancier). I'm from London town- yes I can't believe Boris Johnson is Prime Minister either. Sometimes I do music in between watching cartoons, curating memes and plotting world domination. Upbringing wise, I grew up on a diet of Gospel, Reggae, Grime and HipHop - I basically enjoy anything that sonically sounds dope. What do you hope your listeners take away from your track “Killmonger”? With this one, I want listeners to zone and be absorbed by that aggressive film score feel. The aim was to embody the complicated yet profound character Killmonger is, while underlining my own villainy streak. As a more cinematic Tarantino-esque drop in comparison to the last release, firing people up is the aim. Play it then go pillage a kingdom, or slap your boss. Whichever is applicable. Who are your musical influences? Why? I have quite a few musical influences so I could be here all day listing and explaining. But in no particular order - Childish Gambino, Frank Ocean, EarthGang, James Blake, Damian Marley and Mac Miller (rest easy Malcolm). As for the why, well because they make good music. What’s your writing process like for “Killmonger”? Whisky and thoughts about world domination mostly, with splashes of planned vengeance here and there. When you’re not making music, what do you do? It varies really. I'm an independent so constantly trying to learn new things. A lot of my time is spent trawling through Youtube, reading whatever I can get my hands on, forever figuring out how to do better. Mostly though I spend my freedom watching Cartoon Network and thinking about wings. Connect with GR3YWXLF on social media www.instagram.com/gr3ywxlf www.twitter.com/greywulfchild

- Feel Motivated And Empowered By Serenity In Her New Single “Goddess”
Serenity is an independent singer/songwriter and recording artist from South Africa. Serenity has been writing original songs since she was 8 years old, but only started singing in front of people when she was 16, due to her low self-confidence that stemmed from her being bullied for being overweight. After a year long hiatus from the music industry, and some time spent abroad in Los Angeles and London, the 24 year old is back with a new sound that can best be described as Future Pop or Pop Soul. She found her own authentic sound and finally started being honest with herself. Serenity makes music because she loves it, her philosophy is to make whatever she does in life count and to learn and grow in the process. “Goddess” is a brilliant new single from Serenity and we can’t get enough. All about self-worth and empowerment, “Goddess” is an adrenaline shot of confidence and attitude. Serenity blends her hard-hitting vocal register with a future-pop sound arrangement. I love the lyrics on the track, they are finely-tuned, meaningful and so important in today’s society. Seeing powerful woman using their music as an outlet to spread important messages is so admirable. The impressive pop track “Goddess” sheds light on the sense of self-worth that every young woman should have. It’s a contagious energy and we can’t wait to hear more from Serenity. Check out “Goddess” here and keep scrolling for more with Serenity! Hey Serenity! Welcome to BuzzMusic! How did you decide you wanted to pursue music? Hi! Thank you so much! Haha I have always kind of known I wanted to be a singer, but it was when I was 15 and I had just moved back to South Africa from the US that my parents sat me down and asked me what I actually wanted to do with my life. It was then that my father got me an audition for the Campus of Performing Arts in Johannesburg where I studied for 2 1/2 years and decided to pursue music. Who are you musical inspirations? When I was little, I was slightly obsessed with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. But now I would say that my musical inspirations are artists like Banks, Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, and all the other amazing women making waves and changing the game in the music industry today, and of course all the women who paved the way for us, like: Etta James, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, and Madonna to name only a few. Is there a specific event in your life that influenced your writing style? I have always been a bit of a storyteller, even when I was very young. I think the fact that I used to write fictional stories for fun when I was 12 definitely played a role in developing style, and helped me talk about things in a creative way while still being honest with myself and others. I draw inspiration from my personal experiences and there are a few events I could isolate that would explain my writing style, but you'll hear all about those moments on the EP when it drops later this year. Let’s talk about “Goddess”, what do you want the listener to take away from this single? I want someone to listen to Goddess, and appreciate themselves. I want them to realise that their worth doesn't stem from external sources, but rather from something pure and beautiful within. I want the listener to feel powerful and know that it's okay to be soft and vulnerable, or strong, or both simultaneously, because a Goddess is never just ONE thing, and that's the beauty of it. What can your listeners and fans expect next from you!? I'm really excited about my next single dropping this month! It's called, "Sucker" and it's basically me making fun of myself and my monumentally bad taste when it comes to my 'type.' It's very playful and experimental and I can assure you, you've never heard anything like it. As for what comes after this, well the EP is called Undiscovered - The Re-Write and it's all about self-discovery, so you'll really get to know me and my sound, which much like a Goddess, isn't just one thing. Be sure to stay connected with Serenity via her socials: Instagram Twitter Facebook #BuzzMusic

My sister always listened to rap music and I got curious. I started making beats with random objects and found out I was pretty good. Then I started rapping after I made a couple of beats and it became a passion. Once I found my identity in Christ, I discovered my purpose. Who were some of your musical influences growing up? How did they help shape your sound? Growing up my music artist influence were Lupe Fiasco, Jay Z, Pharrell, and Cassidy. It shaped my music because it had a urban feel that incorporated a old school sound of music like the group Earth Wind and Fire or Micheal Jackson did back in the 80's LOL even though I'm a 90's baby. I can say it kept a street flare that married generations. What do you hope listeners take away from your track “F.A.C.T.S” You belong to God. Stay on the lookout for this captivating diva. Check out "Whatchu Wanna Do" here and read more below in our exclusive interview! Hi Ari K! What advice would you give to your younger self now, when you first started writing music? I would tell myself that patience is a virtue. You are going to get frustrated, it's going to be a lot of long hours and little sleep but in the end it's all worth it. Follow your heart, continue to write and express yourself even if it makes others uncomfortable. Never be afraid to step outside your comfort zone and always go with your gut. In the end, your vision is what matters the most. Can you tell us about the meaning behind the lyrics in "Whatchu Wanna Do"? Well, I've been in a lot of situationships in the past. They are heartbreaking, complicated, exhilarating, frustrating, and mysterious all at once. You honestly never know wtf is going on and there is always miscommunication on both ends. Yet, there is something that still draws you in to that other person, at least in my experiences. When I say "whatchu wanna do?" that is me saying are you here to ride with me or naw? In the pre-chorus, "Take me off my track I get higher" is the feeling I have, and I hope a lot of people have and can relate to, of an overwhelming sense of confidence and empowerment that no matter if this person chooses to be with you or not, you will continue to elevate in life and be the amazing human you are. What was the writing process like? What inspired the song? The writing process for this song was a lot of fun! I went to my producer's studio and he played me this beat and I immediately fell in love with it. I was like, "Ok we are writing to this beat RIGHT NOW!" We started sipping on some Jameson, as we usually do, and then the melody and lyrics just started flowing. It honestly felt so natural and easy writing with him to this beat, I knew that this song was meant to be my debut single. The inspiration behind this song? Well my friends can testify that I have been dealt with a number of difficult cards in my dating life. When I say that, I mean I have dealt with too many fuckboys. haha! I know most of that is my fault because I chose to put up with a lot of bs. This song felt like the right time to give myself and women a voice and a sense of power. I wanted women, and really anyone, to feel that power and self confidence when they hear this song. Who are your biggest musical influences and why? I would say my bigget musical influences are Christina Aguilera, Rihanna, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande, Kehlani, Ella Mai, and Jessie J. These women are such a force to be reckon with in the music industry. They are strong, resilient, and extremely talented musicians that have impacted the pop and r&b world for years. Their music is incredible, their voices are incredible, and they continue to come out with hits that top the charts. What are your career goals for 2019? My goals are to continue to write more music so that I can finish an EP by 2020. I just finished filming a music video for this single so I'm looking forward to releasing it before the end of this month. I'd like to do more shows in the Chicago-land area! And I'd love to build a bigger fan base. Connect with Ari K on social media www.instagram.com/arikmusic
