- Feel Empowered With Luna Scar’s “Diamonds On My Coffin”
Yarelis Santos-Cruz, professionally known as Luna Scar, is a Puerto Rican singer/songwriter and self-taught producer based in Miami, Florida. Self-described as a creator of “dark glitch pop,” Scar’s lyricism reflects real life situations and healing. Her synesthesia, the ability to hear music in color, helps create vivid and glittery vibes in her arrangements that is unique to her sound. After working on it for three years in her bedroom, Scar released her first LP, “SOHBER,” at 16. She has since released two EP’s, three singles, and is currently working on a few more projects to release by the end of 2019. Stay tuned! Luna Scar's latest single “Diamonds on My Coffin” is a catchy pop tunes layered with dark drum & bass elements that demand attention. I’m completely entranced by this track! “Diamonds on My Coffin” is an eloquently experimental dark-pop treasure. Layered with Luna’s ethereal vocals and eclectic lyrics this song really showcases her individualism and style. Luna Scar’s confidence, perseverance and authenticity come blasting through the speakers. She flirts with the darker side of the mainstream pop music scene. The eerie sound arrangements and echoing orchestral samples add to the riveting sound. Her vocals carry like ghostly whispers; they’re spectacular. The ominous tone carries the song as Luna occupies the same elegiac register. Her tone is unnerving, and her words are spellbound. Throughout the song I’m hypnotized by her skilled lyricism and I can’t wait to hear what else is to come from Luna Scar! Check out her new single “Diamonds on My Coffin” here. Read more with Luna Scar below in our exclusive interview. Hi Luna Scar! Can you start by telling us more about yourself and your upbringing? Hello! Well, I am an 18 year old self taught DIY singer, songwriter, and producer based in Miami, Florida. Both of my parents are Puerto Rican but I've lived in Miami all my life with little money and a lot of hustle. What inspired you to start writing songs and creating this music? I've felt really alone for most of my life so my inspiration comes from my own hardships. My first song, "Recycled Stars" which actually ended up being on my first album "SOHBER," was written when I was 12; it showed me how relieving it is to finally let go, even if it is just on paper. Once I saved up enough money, I bought a computer and some recording equipment to make my small bedroom studio where I create all of my projects. Writing provides a sense of therapy and producing is so pleasantly time-consuming that it's the perfect distraction from the ruckus in my life. I am a firm believer of exposing the gore to heal the sore. What is the meaning behind your single, “Diamonds on My Coffin”? This song is about knowing your worth and never settling for less. I was going through a break-up at the time and instead of dwelling on what I lost, I wanted to focus on what I still had: my music, my confidence, my ambition. The goal was to remind myself of the kind, hard-working, and worthy person I was and still am. How is “Diamonds on My Coffin” different from what you've released? "Diamonds on My Coffin" definitely sticks out like a sore thumb compared to my other songs. For one, it's not lyrically melancholic; since I usually write when I'm feeling somber, it was a refreshing change of pace. It was one of the first songs I wrote to empower myself that I actually liked. Secondly, I experimented around with the beat and it turned out super bubblegum pop and "dance-y!" I wanted it to feel like a Barbie doll song in comparison to my catalog of Monster High doll songs. I love my dark-glitch sound but sometimes I just want make a feel-good banger! What’s next for you? We can’t wait to hear more! I am currently working on two EPs and an album! They all have varying themes but my main inspirations are femininity, sex, power, and depression. As for shows, I have one or two up my sleeve in the South Florida area in the coming months. Very excited to share everything soon! - Feyer Releases Eclectic New Single “Parties!”
Andrew Feyer, known by most as just the last name and solo moniker Feyer, is a singer, songwriter, composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist with diverse musical experience. Feyer constructs his unique sound by combining personal, yet theatrical lyrics, with a classically influenced melodic and instrumental style, coupled with electronic-rock production. Key components of Feyer's style are the fusion of retro and futuristic sounds and the incorporation of visual elements into the mix, drawing great influence from nostalgic cartoons, movies, video games, and animation loops. Feyer's new singles, "Stuck in a Video Game" and "Parties!" are now out on all platforms, in partnership with Kobalt's AWAL. "Parties!" is Feyer’s theatrical and introspective view of the stupidity that happens when young people get together. Feyer gives his cynical and quirky opinions through witty lyricism and a confident deliver. The electronic and experimental tones turn into an upbeat groovy tune when the chorus hits and we can’t help but sing along. "Parties!" is a catchy pop track laced with electronic, rock and classical sound arrangements. Feyer pours his raw energy and soul into her lyricism and production quality and it’s so evident throughout "Parties!". The undertones of funky, retro sounds provide a refreshing twist to the indie-pop track. Feyer has established his unique craft from the ground up and he fully showcases his multiple skills in "Parties!". The lyrics tell a story of someone who is over the party scene in the most enthusiastically ironic way. Overall I recommend you check out this track and stay connected with Feyer to see what he delivers next! Listen to "Parties!" here and read more with Feyer in our exclusive interview below! Hi Feyer! Thanks for chatting with us! Can you tell us more about your upbringing and what made you so musically inclined? My upbringing was pretty typical of a young boy from the suburbs, but unlike most of my friends growing up, I was terrible at sports. I made up for my lack of athleticism with music. I have always had an ear for music, beginning with piano lessons at an early age. From there, I began playing drums, as well as guitar. In high school, I discovered that music could also be made with the help of software, and from there, I started producing with Logic Pro right in my bedroom. It wasn't until shortly after college that I put all of my different training and interests together to create the music I create today. I think what makes me musically inclined is both my passion for the art and how it gives me the ability to express myself in ways that I wouldn't be able to otherwise. What is the meaning behind the lyrics in "Parties!"? What do you want your listeners to take away from this song? "Parties!" was written after I sustained a serious injury in my left foot that left me unable to walk properly for half a year. During that time, I decided to write a tongue-in-cheek song about a raging college party, also serving as a cautionary tale about the effects of too much of it. The chorus has the elements of a rager, and the verses are more on the pensive side. I hope that my listeners will enjoy both the 'rock out' attitude that is infused in the song's production, but will also be able to take a step back and really analyze what the lyrics mean and how it relates to them and their experiences. Where in the world would you love to perform? Definitely London or Tokyo. Many people have told me that my music would do well in either of those cities. I've been told that the music scene in London is big on non-traditional lyrics, and Japan loves the video-gamey aesthetic. What’s your favourite lyric in “Parties!”? I'd say my favorite lyric is "my doctor says that I shouldn't get drunk." To me, it's just such a random specific lyric of a doctor suddenly appearing telling me to proceed with caution. Still, it is based on a true story of my doctor actually telling me to avoid drinking when I broke my foot in college. Who influences your style? What sparks your creativity? Everything I hear influences me in some way, ranging from the classics to the modern. Initially, my biggest influences were those classic rock supergroups like Queen, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd. But lately, I've also found myself being influenced by modern acts that often create out-of-the-box material, such as LCD Soundsystem, Passion Pit, and Grimes. My creativity is sparked every time I hear music that strays away from the conventional and takes risks, leading to music that breaks the rules. If they can do it, so can I! No one should be limited by what they can and cannot create. What's next for Feyer? Expect future songs and live shows, as well as constant collaborations with other artists. I also am working on my remixing project, Draniods, which will be releasing one remix a month of other artists' songs. Expect maybe one or two originals under that name Connect with Feyer on social media www.instagram.com/feyermusic www.twitter.com/feyermusic
- It’s A Game Of Cat And Mouse In Madame Psychosis’ “Kapow”
Madame Psychosis' brand new track “Kapow” is high energy and gritty right out the gate. It hits hard through the thunderous drum kit, pummeling guitars and catchy rhythmic textures. We love the overall theme of the track, being in pursuit of someone you’re interested in and ultimately being shot down. That initial “KAPOW” or rejection is captured perfectly throughout the infectious track. “Kapow” is aggressive, yet charmingly relatable for anyone brave enough to admit it. We love bouncing melodies that are reminiscent of the cat and mouse chasing pursuits of Tom and Jerry, Tweety and Sylvester, and Roadrunner and Pepé Le Pew. The heart-dropping anthem leaves us craving more from the indie rock collective, we can’t wait to see what they deliver next! Madame Psychosis is a five-piece alt pop & indie rock band from Toronto. Members include singer Michelle Mondesir, guitar players Bret McCaffrey and Rene Ip, drummer Jaina Tharakan, and bass player Giovanni Paola. Madame Psychosis just released the “infectious earworm”, “Kapow”, on July 8th, 2019. The band also released a music video for the song, and are now preparing to showcase their work during their TV appearances on Global’s The Morning Show and CHCH’s Morning Live. You can find their debut album and latest singles, “Kapow”, “Crashing Down” and “Just Wanna Be Myself”, on all major streaming services. Check out “Kapow” here and read more with Madame Psychosis below! Hello Madame Psychosis! Can you start by introducing yourselves and describing how you met? Hello Buzz Music! Thanks for having us! We’re a five-piece alt pop and indie rock band based north of the border in Toronto (go Raptors!) How we met was serendipitous and very unlikely. Our drummer Jaina and guitar player Bret were in a band prior to Madame Psychosis called Howl Your Heart Out. After that band came to an end, Bret and Jaina continued to get together to jam. Then came the infamous wedding that spearheaded what eventually became Madame Psychosis. It all started during a conversation where a mutual friend of two of the eventual band mates, Bret and Gio (bass), suggested a jam session a few days later while she was still in town. At first we thought, “sure, why not”, assuming it was never going to happen. But much to our surprise it did happen, and that’s where Bret introduced Jaina to Gio. Following this session, Bret and Jaina invited Gio to come to their weekly practice. They continued to jam, writing songs in the process. It took well over a year to recruit Michelle, our singer and lyricist, who shortly after introduced Rene (guitar), having just moved to the city, to the band. How long have you been making music together? As a full band, we’ve been performing and making music together since March of 2016. If you include the time before Michelle and Rene joined the band, well, that goes back to late 2014 after the wedding we just described. How does the writing process work as a group? The writing process has been fairly consistent with the band so far. Our guitar player Bret will come to the band with an idea or chord progression in mind. We’ll jam to it together as a full band, developing the structure and transitions over several weeks and months, while each band member further develops their own part at home. Once we have a solid concept for a song, Michelle will work on the lyrics and develop a vocal melody. It’s always exciting when Michelle comes to band practice with new lyrics and a vocal melody because at that point we’ve probably been playing the instrumental for weeks if not months. It’s a welcome change to hear the vocals! We’ll continue developing the song, adding solos and other parts as time goes on. Though we’re very comfortable with this process, we are showing more signs of expanding it. For example, Michelle wrote keys for a few tracks on the new album. This is new territory for us since keys were not on our debut album. There’s also a song on the new album called “Not Supposed To Be Here” that Rene initially developed and introduced to us. We’re excited for people to hear the new tracks! Can you tell our readers more about the meaning of “Kapow”? “Kapow” was inspired by the chasing pursuits of Saturday morning cartoon characters like Sylvester and Tweety, Tom and Jerry and so on. The song highlights the “chase” or the pursuit that lies at the heart of getting someone you are interested in to give you a chance, and the heart-dropping moment of being rejected. What inspired you to write about the uncomfortable subject of being rejected? Though it’s an uncomfortable subject, rejection is something that everyone goes through at some point, whether in relationships, at work, or between friends - and this is exactly what inspires most of Michelle’s writing: personal experiences and the world around her. At some point, everyone faces rejection, and so inevitably, it’s going to end up in a song. Michelle’s lyrics truly capture the world around us, writing in a way that everyone can relate to that speaks to the human condition, whether it’s life’s highs or its lows. We’re all just trying to survive the obstacles that life throws our way. What’s next for Madame Psychosis? Most notably, we have a new album coming out on September 20th, and yes, there will be a huge release party. We can’t explain how excited we are for people to hear it. We’re all very proud of the new songs. Outside of preparing for the album release, we’ll be spending the next year promoting the new album, playing as many shows as possible along the way. We have a few upcoming TV appearances to help kick-start this promotional period. Of course, we’re always writing new music. We’ve talked about a one-off single release later in the fall or winter, but the point is we’ll definitely be working on new material. We can’t stop that. It’s who we are. I highly recommend that you add this to your playlist and stay on the lookout for more from Tobbz! Listen to “Jaye Shaye” here and read more below in our exclusive interview. How did you come up with this stage name? Tbh, the way I came up with my stage name is so funny , Cos I’ve had bare nicknames ,I just woke up one and I changed my Twitter handle to manliketobbz , I was manliketobbz for a while then later Tobitobbz then Tobbz was the official name I used when I dropped my first official single “My Ting”. Even some of my friends call me by my nicknames “Mikel”, Topboy and more. Even some people don’t even know my government name . What’s the meaning behind your track “Jaye Shaye”? That’s a lot of meaning to the track “ Jaye Shaye “. I was in a different zone when I was writing this song, when compiling my EP which i named ECSTASY, I was in a different world . Jaye in Yoruba language which is the tribe I come in Nigeria means “Enjoy” , while “Shaye” means “ Live Life”. And also the important message behind the track is to Hustle, Grind, Invest and Live Life. The song is an encouragement for my generation and the ones coming that if you want to live and flex, you gotta hustle and secure the bag, and also again don’t spend all your money trying to life live invest too, basically saying don’t eat with all your hands . And also Patience is virtue, put in work and trust the process don’t compare another mans time to yours Cos what goes around comes around . What emotions do you have to channel when creating your music? Emotions.... hmmm.. that’s mental... I put in a lot of energies and emotions when creating my tracks ... i create a certain vibe and zone where I want people to feel what I was feeling when I was making the song.. Everyday life, what’s going on around me , around the world , my past and present experience about life , other people’s experience too... I blend everything together and make it not too sensitive conscious but wavy conscious... Cos people are going through things and need a time out from it , so make create a time out vibe with a reminder spice . What’s next for you and your career? Moving onto greater things , staying positive, putting in that work , get more exposure and trusting the process , I still have my 7-7 going on and school , music is part time for now and hopefully turns full time soon. We love what we’ve heard so far and we’re stoked for what Galo ShadeZ will deliver next. Check out “I Wanna” here and read more below in our exclusive interview! Hi Galo ShadeZ! Can you tell us more about your upbringing and how you got started in music? Well I was born and raised in LA. I grew up predominately with my mom and my two younger sisters. There was a period of time where my uncle lived with me and shared a room with me. He would wake up really early to go to work and would blast West Coast hip-hop from the bathroom while he was showering. That started the spark of me listening to and learning everything I could about hip hop. A few years later my sister was in a school talent show and My uncle thought it be a good idea of me being her background dancer for the show. The show went great and I had a breakdown part of the song where I did the tootsie roll dance. I got like a standing ovation and since the moment I knew I wanted to start performing. Towards the end of high school I started freestylin little by little & by the time I got out of high school I recorded my first verse in my friends closet vocal booth. After that is was on. What’s your song “I Wanna” all about? Can you dive into the lyricism? I wanna it’s about living the life that you want to live. I believe all people have a certain lifestyle or aspire to live a life that they think about our dream of. To me I wanna is just saying that out loud. In the chorus you know it really just talks about how I want to live my life freely you know like stress-free worry free and just have a pure heart and a clear mind and it also just shares that I wanna always be having a good time having fun and doing that with someone that’s meant for me. In the verses I really just dive into a lot of the places that you know I’ve been to or that I want to go to and some of the experiences that I want to have in the music industry and just things I wanna accomplish with my music. Who are your top musical influences? How do they inspire you? I definitely have a lot of musical influences. But if I have to choose my top ones they would definitely have to be Jay Z, Pitbull, Eminem and Nelly. Jay Z has always inspired me because I feel like he’s the perfect storm of Hip Hop or at least what I want to be in hip-hop. Because he’s got ridiculous Flo you know he’s one of the best to ever do it and he is an extreme businessman. Which to me I like up to a lot because you know I’m an entrepreneur at heart so one of the things I want to do outside of music is definitely develop businesses in the entertainment industry and outside entertainment industry and be able to help others as well. Pitbull inspired me because Pitbull really made me believe that a Latino can make it big in the main stream hip-hop market. When I saw Pitbull I was like oh damn like he’s lighter than me. And he’s doing it, he’s making it, he’s killing it. He raised my belief level a lot so he was just an inspiration that a Latino like me can make it in the main stream game. Eminem did similar things as far as raising my belief. Obviously you know my first I was like well damn it is white boy can make it I mean that opens up the doors for everybody. But I think Eminem story of overcoming so much struggling so much challenge was the most inspiring thing about him. The fact that he just never gave up any really just stuck with it no matter how bad I got for him. So that was the real light most inspiring thing about Eminem. Not to mention he’s the greatest rapper of all time. Nelly did for me was Nelly basically made it OK to make fun music. When I first started making music I didn’t really know which row I wanted to go because I grew up in the West Coast and the West Coast is the birthplace of gangsta rap. You know but that wasn’t exactly my lifestyle you know I was around that and had family members that had that lifestyle but that wasn’t me. But when I heard Nelly and like all his like really fine records and the way people just wear like five into it and enjoy his music I thought to myself well damn that’s cool like I could do that too. Because you know I have always been really social guy and love the party love to have fun and that’s what kind of influence me and let me know it’s OK that you know be able to get on record and just have a good time. How would you describe your live performance? My live performance is LIT!!! From the first time I performed I always had an entertainers mindset. What I mean by that is like I never ever just thought, oh I’m gonna go up there and just rap. I always thought I’m gonna go out there and I’m gonna put on a show. So most of the shows I did when I dropped my first album I always had dancers, I had in a live DJ and I had my producer playing the keys live. So I would give you a show. Being a good entertainer I think is part of you know your package and for me I pride myself on that. So you’re going to come see Galo ShadeZ show you’re definitely going to be entertained. Do you have any upcoming shows or events you’d like to talk about? I don’t have any upcoming shows or events that I’m promoting right now. I’m focusing on getting a few more singles out and shooting videos for them. And once I got there wrapped up I will start performing regularly again. - Zack Bright Release Contagious New Pop-Punk Fusion, “Kiss Me”
Power-pop punk artist Zack Bright is making his name known out of Ontario, Canada. Zack Bright released his debut album Voices last year, a joyful exploration of genres from Bright's musical past, but with the release of "Kiss Me" he is setting his sights on a more focused sound as he furthers his signature pop punk/country crossover blend. The upbeat and infectious new hit “Kiss Me” is a breakthrough single. It’s like coming up for a breath of fresh air after experiencing a toxic relationship, and finally being able to breathe after struggling with mental health. Bright’s had his own share of struggles in his life, he strives to bring a positive message to his music. "There is enough evil shit going on in the world that when I play music and write music, I want to feel good and leave it all behind, whether it's for five minutes or three hours. That is the mantra more or less. I am a clown and try not to take life seriously. It's so short and I want to make the most of it and I hope that comes through in the music." - Zack Bright. As if his name was a sign from the beginning, Zack brings a Bright and refreshing new sound to the music industry. Debuting his irresistibly catchy new single "Kiss Me”, the track is a healthy dish of late 90's alt-rock, country twang, and just the right amount of cheese. “Kiss Me” makes you want to grab your loved one and take a summer drive with all the windows down, singing along to every word. “Kiss Me” is a track that’s guaranteed to cheer anyone up, make anyone think about the love they have, and bring back the reminiscent feelings of the honeymoon phase. I highly recommend you check it out and stay on the lookout for Zack Bright! Listen to “Kiss Me” here and read more with Zack Bright below. Hey Zack! Welcome to BuzzMusic! Can you describe your stage presence and live performance? We're a high-octane band! The live show is something we have a lot of fun doing and the audiences usually respond well to that. We're a happy-go-lucky group and we try not to take ourselves too seriously so there's a lot of jokes and self-deprecating humour on stage. “Kiss Me” is a great song, it’s so positive. Can you dive into your writing process? The song-writing process is a little bit different each time. This one started with an acoustic guitar part that I had been sitting on for awhile but didn't seem to fit any of the lyrics I was working on at the time. Like the song implies, the lyrics and girl came to me when I was least expecting them. Once the words started coming out I had a feeling that the guitar part would work well because of how upbeat it is. After that it was a matter getting into the studio with my producer (Jean-Paul De Roover) and finding the right elements to compliment it. I'm super stoked with how it turned out. The guitars sound great and the drums thump. What challenges did you face when writing this single and how did you overcome them? The biggest challenge for me is getting attached to certain lyrics or parts, and then realizing that they don't necessarily serve the song in the right way. I'm all about making the song the best it can be and sometimes you get too close to it because you're the one writing it and and you start to lose your objectivity. That's part of the reason I love working with a producer. JP and I have a great working relationship and he helps keep on track. What makes you so passionate about music and how do you continue to feed that passion? Music runs in my family, so you could kind of say I was born into it. My Dad has played in bands since he was a teenager and long before we looked up lyrics on the internet I remember helping him listen to songs on cassette over and over, writing out the lyrics by hand. My Grandma was a singer and had the opportunity to pursue a record deal way back when, but decided she wanted to be with my Grandpa instead. Ironically, I didn't want anything to do with music when I was a kid. I remember the first time my Dad put a guitar in my hands, I was not having any of it. Things have obviously changed. I don't think I need to feed the passion, that comes automatically with writing and performing and having a good time. I think it's more the passion that feeds me. It does something to the soul. - Elle Leatham Stuns In Debut EP “Fringe Like Vengeance
Elle Leatham jumps between recording artist and producer on the regular, to the point that she's not sure which identity best defines her. In an era of bedroom producers and self-promoting independent artists, Elle Leatham thrives in the DIY music scene. Beginning her career as a songwriter and vocalist in the Bay Area, she learned music production in order to have more control over her sound, and to challenge traditional gender roles that often dominate the industry. After being apart of a few musical collectives and dabbling in genres from R&B to Folk, Elle went on a 3 year hiatus, only to emerge more creative and versatile than ever before. Fueled by the energy of LA's underground art scene, Elle started putting together new demos that showcased a variety of production skills, while retaining the rawness of lofi. The resulting 5 track EP, “Fringe Like Vengeance”, explores themes of isolation, introspection, technology, sex, and existentialism. The majority of the EP is composed on a Juno-106s, and begins with an indie synth-pop vibe that slowly builds into the bass driven realm of synthwave. “Blowhard” ethereal vocals and a charmingly lofi synthwave or indie-pop. I love the melodious tunes that set Elle apart in the music industry in a big way. Her echoing vocals are a divine experience for any listener. “Grind” is a bass-driven track that takes up through a soft yet funky journey of sound arrangements. Elle Leatham has an alluring and addicting vocal range. It's a smoky and sultry addition to her tracks that we can’t get enough of. “Gone Marina” is a retrospective track that tells a story of Elle’s inner thoughts and feelings. We love this danceable synth-laden track. Elle Leatham curates easily relatable songs for her listeners. She’s vulnerable and real through her lyricism in order to form stronger connections with her fans. “W&M” is a funky song with elements of Neo soul, alternative indie-pop and Elle’s notable lofi sound. Moving through the experimental waves of sound, Elle takes us on a journey through her track about “Women & Madness”. The seductive soundscape personifies what it is to be a woman. “Opinion Generators” is the concluding song on this fiery EP “Fringe Like Vengeance”. We’re sad to see it end, but “Opinion Generators” ignites a catchy, boogie feeling in our soul and we can’t help but groove along. Elle Leatham has once again entranced me from start to finish. She lays down tight grooves, fuses sultry vocals on top and adds her authentic flare and individual aesthetic to every track. We love this synth-pop driven EP and can’t wait to see what Elle Leatham brings to the table next! Check out “Fringe Like Vengeance” here and read more with Elle Leatham below! Hi Elle! What advice would you give to your younger self now, when you first started writing music? Get more comfortable with instruments, and keep finding better ways to record. It’s really the same advise I still give myself. The instrument might be a sequencer/keyboard/guitar/computer or whatever - just get really comfortable with it. The more you understand an instrument, the better it can express your intentions, and your music will sound better. Finding the best way to record is a similar experience, because a lot of engineers feel that same way about their gear as the artist does the instrument. Be comfortable with your instruments, and find recording methods to capture all of them. Can you tell us about the meaning behind the lyrics in our favorite track, “W&M”? Thank you! The lyrics stemmed from something a friend had said to me, “women are crazy, and men are dumb.” She didn’t mean it as a personal opinion, but rather that these two identities are how women and men often see each other. I think it’s more the result of how we perceive different ways of communicating, and “crazy” and “dumb” get assigned as explanations to psychologies we fail to understand. W&M focuses on the identity of “crazy” women, deconstructing the source of that madness, and how it visually manifests. The original drafts focused heavily on origins such as motherhood and survival, and the final revision is a lot more playful and digestible. It retained all of the brash directness though, and that was essential. What do you hope your listeners take away from “Fringe Like Vengeance”? The EP is inspired by some of my favorite songs from the 60’s and 80’s, so I hope there’s a nostalgic retro undertone that listeners can vibe with. Last year I acquired a Juno 106s synthesizer, which is a pretty distinguished 80’s sound, and I saturated just about every track with as many Juno textures as possible. There’s a few MicroKORG appearances but the majority is definitely the Juno. I filled the space with a lot of fuzzy reverb and blown out bass, but overall I hope people hear the warmth of everything. “Fringe” is a reference to being both unconventional and decorative, and “vengeance” is meant like a measurement of ominous intensity. If either of those concepts resonate with listeners, either lyrically or in the overall feel, then I’ll be very happy. Do you have a specific person or event that inspired you to begin creating music? As a kid, my family’s records and cassette deck were in the same closet as the VHS tapes and office supplies. So anytime I needed scotch tape or wanted to watch a movie, I had to see the different audio players. I think having all of that equipment in a small but highly frequented space was huge, because eventually I got curious, first discovering old headphones and then a microphone. I actually keep those same headphones stored in my amp cabinet for good luck, even though they never worked. The microphone did work though, and from 9 to 18 the movie closet was my recording studio. My focus was on lyrics and connecting with the recording, which is how I learned to conceptualize a song. It wasn’t until I went to production school that all of that was challenged, and instrumentation became my main focus. What are your career goals for the remainder 2019? We’d love to hear your ideas! There’s a constant exchange between Los Angeles and Bay Area artists, and I love being a part of that. I do think it could be way more transformative though, so I think the rest of 2019 into 2020 is going to involve finding better ways to support touring artists and sharing our audiences. I’ve started working on some collaborative retro-wave and R&B projects with the goal of involving artists from different parts of the coast and building shared content. I could even end up on the road myself! Keep up with Elle Leatham through social media! www.instagram.com/elle_leatham #BuzzMusic

Listen to “It’s Only You” here and read more below in our exclusive interview! Hey Justin! Welcome to BuzzMusic! Can you tell us more about your upbringing and how you got started in music? My upbringing was a very musical one. I started playing guitar at around age 12 (at the moment I found my dad's Gibson Acoustic in the closet). During my high school years, I was in a couple bands, mostly with my brothers/neighbors/and some with school friends. Though I did not do much formal study of music, I always knew that having a good ear was enough and that that was what I needed to focus on perfecting. As my ear and talent improved in my early years, I became more adaptive to all musical environments and more versatile (multi-instrumental) overall as a player. Music is my emotional release and outlet. It has always been this way and I feel its my duty to create it to heal and help others. We love your track “It’s Only You”, it’s very awakening. What emotions did you channel in order to write this piece? "It's Only You" (formerly named "Muse") was originally inspired by a beautiful girl I met on the beach in San Diego years back. The verse "hey you, yea you, as certain as the sky is blue, is the longing that I have for you" was apparently written to the feminine muse, which I have found to be the best source of motivation and inspiration personally. The catchy and memorable chorus was written with my producer Tyler Demorest here in LA (ABC Studios/Silverlake) with the intent of writing a good pop melody that listeners will not forget. The emotions that I am expressing are gratefulness, love, longing, and a bit of melancholy. The overall theme is the expression of love and adoration for someone who sparked interest in you, something that all listeners have experienced in one way or another. Can you dive into the meaning behind your lyricism in “It’s Only You”? The underlying tone of the lyrics behind "It's Only You' is the longing for a particular lover. The songs lyrics are an expression of ones adoration for a lover, and a lyrical expression of what someone meant to you. Do you have any musical influences that inspire your music? How so? I most definitely have many musical influences in life. These include life itself and the situations I find myself in, love and loss. The world will always give me things to write about. I have found living in Los Angeles very inspiring when it comes to my songwriting because I see so much of real life here (the good and the bad). I must say the feminine muse (women) have always been one of the strongest driving forces behind my songwriting. What can listeners expect from your upcoming album? "Beverly Blue" will deliver very high quality sounds and moods to its listeners. The album is very self reflective, offering listeners many moods to visit, from the writer to the listener. I am very pleased with my team of professionals involved- Keith Armstrong and Sterling Sound (Nashville) deliver a very pleasant listening experience to all audiences. The album will better introduce who I am to the world in the best median of expression/art- music. This dreamy new single has us craving more from Vica, and personally, it will be bumping on my playlist! Check out “Good Love” here and read more below in our exclusive interview! Hi Vica! Welcome to BuzzMusic! Can you tell us what inspired you to pursue your career in music? Hey Buzz Music! Thank you for having me! Well I’ve always loved music and singing since I was a kid but I’ve always been scared and/or lazy to actually pursue it. To be honest, I had a bad breakup 2 years ago from a guy I thought I was gonna marry and so that kinda shook me. At that point I was like, fuck this, I’m gonna do whatever I want to do without being scared of failure because time is ticking and life is passing me by so I better do this right now. What are the elements you love most about R&B music? I can’t play any instruments and I don’t really know music theory or anything (and I’ve tried to learn but it’s honestly like math to me) but there’s something about R&B music, sometimes it’s the chords or the beat or the bass line that just makes you say ‘oooh’ and sends that tingle up your spine, like a real smooth tingle...like a sexy, smooth tingle hahaha So awesome that you're from Toronto! Can you tell us how the city and Toronto music scene has inspired you and your music? Toronto is great! So many talented artists here. I actually grew up in the Philippines and moved to Toronto about 10 years ago. When I moved here, I knew no one, just my cousin and some of her friends so I turned to Craigslist at first to find music projects and through the years, I’ve met some really amazing musicians and artists that are so talented as well as humble and generous and inspiring who have just helped shape me and my music and made me come out of my shell. How do you continue to feed your passion for music everyday? On some difficult days you question what you’re doing and reflect on whether what you’re doing is worth it but in the end I just think there’s something about creating something, making something out of nothing that may touch someone else the way it made you feel as you were creating it, I think that is pretty priceless. Can you tell us more about the message you want to get across to your fans in "Good Love"? “Good Love” is just a feel good flirty song about a woman who’s taking charge of her sexuality in a confident and playful way. Let it be your sexy summer song! Connect with Vica on social media www.instagram.com/vica_music #BuzzMusic

Jackson Wagner is a talented musician and songwriter from Long Beach, California. Currently working on his debut album “Take the World”, set to be released late September, Jackson releases his debut single, “Falling” and we’re hooked. Deeply blues-inspired, the sultry track, “Falling” showcases Wagner’s undeniable skills as a guitarist. He pours his heart into this debut single “Falling” through the lyrics and overall confident delivery. “Falling” is a quirky, sultry and overall easy listening anthem. It’s a song made for sunsets and long drives with the one you love. This song resonates with me because of the emotional delivery of every word, it’s harmonically rich and authentically human. Jackson Wagner’s vocals come flowing through the speakers. His sound is finely-calibrated beyond his years and boasts elements of classic roots and blues with a contemporary rock flare. We love what he brings to the table and we can’t wait to see what he delivers next! Listen to “Falling” here and read more in our interview with Jackson Wagner below! Welcome to BuzzMusic Jackson! We love your sound. Can you tell us more about your upbringing into music? How did you get started? For as long as I can remember, I have gravitated towards artists like Jerry Garcia and Bob Dylan for their unique and honest musical styles. After years of bouncing between instruments I realized I had a passion for guitar and songwriting. How do you feed your passion for music everyday? I try to make a habit of learning a new blues lick on the guitar every day. In addition, I enjoy discovering new artists and try to attend live shows whenever I can. Your song “Falling” is amazing! We love the lyrics and melody. What inspired this song? “Falling” was inspired by the idea of trying to see the bright side of things even when they are at their lowest. At the time, I had been listening to a lot of Howlin’ Wolf and Eric Clapton, so naturally the track’s blues influences are apparent. What’s your favorite part of the song, lyrically or sonically? My favorite part of the song is the transition from the first guitar solo, into the third verse. The call and response between my vocals and the riffs from my guitarist Alex Kaje, offer a dynamic contrast and highlight our different musical styles. Do you have an official release date for you debut album? What can listeners expect from “Take the World”? ‘Take the World is scheduled to be released on September 20th, and the second single ‘One More Night’ it is being released on August 16th. ‘Take the World’ is a dynamic project that uses elements of blues, folk, and psychedelic rock to tell a story about accepting and embracing change.
