Lyrical Lord is a Hip Hop recording artist and songwriter from North Carolina. His style is somewhat different from most artists, and he creates a unique sound and vibe for his listeners. Lyrical Lord began rapping at the early age of 15 years old. Since 2005, Lyrical Lord has put out a tremendous number of mixtapes, albums, and videos on the internet, building his fan base and honing in on his craft. Lyrical Lord released his single titled “This Is Me” and one thing that completely captured our attention was the bold lyricism. The witty bars had me all the way in tuned with every punchline and catchphrase. I guess Lyrical Lord really does live up to his name? Lyrical Lord is a breath of fresh air in today’s rap market where rappers are afraid to push the envelope with their songwriting. For me, it was nice to witness a rapper arrange their lyrics in a way where the listener could enjoy it to the full capacity! I caught myself smiling, and chuckling at different parts in the song, as if I just met somebody funny for the first time. Despite the A1 lyrics, “This Is Me” represented a hype-like artistry in Lyrical Lord. The beat was dope and had a nice bass to get the energy right. “This Is Me” has various different components that make this record such a killer song but it wouldn’t have been a hit if it wasn’t for Lyrical Lord’s execution! Knowing your sound is a little different from other rappers, who are some of your influences and how did they inspire your artistry? The people that have influenced me throughout my career are all true talented artists.  I would say number one would be my Father and brother.  I grew up around their musical lifestyle so I learned the basics of music at an early age.  Next up would be Logic.  That man is a pure genius.  He inspires me to believe in myself no matter what the case may be.  Other artists would be Lil Wayne, Meek Mill, Nicki Minaj, and way too many more to name. How would you describe “This Is Me” for us? "This Is Me" is a song that I developed to show my true self.  It stands out from my other songs because of the lyrics, delivery, and the message in it.  I feel like I became more creative with it, including punchlines and flow.  When i first heard the beat for it, I was instantly attached. What emotion did you channel in while writing this record? I was full of emotions at the time.  It's the first song off of my album "The World Is Mine" because I believe its the strongest.  Normally it takes me some time to develop a song, however this one only took an hour or so to create. To me it's the best. Were there any moments in “This Is Me” you felt helped emphasized the meaning of the song for you? Im known to have a crazy brain in general, and this song shows proof.  I went very deep into my headspace, and was able to transfer that into "This Is Me".  It describes how I truly am in life. When can we expect the next hit song!? Im actually working on a new album currently, and there will be a song very soon for the fans and listeners.  Every song on the album is a hit.  The next record coming out will be called "Lifestyle". What makes a hit song? In our opinion, it’s the right production of a beat and the right artist to execute it! And that’s exactly what Jprotege and LeeWater did themselves! Who are these two phenomenons? Let’s introduce them! Jprotege is an producer originally from Sacramento CA who now calls Arizona his home. He became a producer in 2008 out of his deep love for music. Before Jprotege made the valley of California his home, he gained notoriety for producing fellow natives. Currently, Jprotege is working on projects, in which he will be entirely produced, set to release in the Summer and Fall of this year. He plans to expand his horizons and grow his music career. Leewater, on the other hand, was born in Denver Colorado but currently resides in Phoenix Arizona. Leewater developed a love for words and melody and was later baptized in the music scene where open mics would occupy most of his nights. Leewater gained notoriety as a writer and member of the multi-genre collective, The Color 8. After years of writing short stories and arranging countless songs, Leewater would embark on his personal musical journey. During this journey, Leewater met the producing icon Jprotege, and together they would collaborate on their full-length project. The two released the record “Blessing” off their album “Light Shine” and this song is ready to get the sizzling hot summer vibes on lock! Jprotege arranges together a nice beat that blends styles of rnb, lo-fi hip hop, with trap elements floating on top of the track. Jprotege serves as the foundation for the entire record due to his creation of the beat. Therefore, the meticulous time spent in crafting this beat was well-noticed. Leewater as a vocalist is incredible! His smooth-sailing resonance shows signs of classic RnB nature with a saturated tonal quality that pushes through the music. The lyrics were nicely written that the current generation would love! “Blessing” was a fun record in which many people could catch a vibe. “Blessing” will translate so well with a day to day summer playlist. The combination of a killer producer and fire artist is scorchingly brilliant, and Jprotege alongside Leewater is the perfect example of the mix! It’s scary to think of what’s to come and how much we’ve accomplished in just two years time For Jprotege, what are some of the many obstacles you find yourself overcoming when producing music? Time management would be my main obstacle. It’s hard working a 9-5 and having a girlfriend, as well as balance a career in music. I’m improving daily and my girl is understanding. I’m a Libra so balance is important haha. Leewater! How do you find the perfect theme to write about from a nicely arranged track by Jprotege? I try not to think at all. I try to react to the music, they only thing I try is to follow my first instinct With responding to the beat! Tell us about this joint album! Which are some of your personal favorite songs Jprotege and Leewater? This collaborative project was a lot of fun to make J.Protege’s production made it easy for me to lock in and get in the character for each theme/song. Some of my favorites are Solfood, Blessing, Fine by me....along with the rest of the album. I have to agree with lee those are my some of my favorites along with gypsy lover. What’s next for you two? The North And Wells Band is a trio of musicians who met at The Second City in Chicago and their name originated from the location of The Second City – NorthAvenue on and Wells St. in Old Town, Chicago where they all worked as either cooks, hosts or dishwashers in the theatre. The group have been writing and recording for almost 8 months with vocals and rhythm guitar performed by Gideon Redic, piano licks and vocals by John Love and Jake Stopar on the guitar, bass and drums. The North And Wells have a sound that is described as something like Stevie Wonder meets Tame Impala with a blend of old soul combined with a psychedelic peppering. I was drawn to “Chicago Summertime” immediately, with its modern jazzy tones mixed with that flare that reminds me of John Mayer, the track is extremely hard to beat and is reshaping a popular art. The vocals are smooth, sultry, embedded with emotions and I love the range that he has that later is accompanied by a blend of harmonies that add extra depth to “Chicago Summertime” that can already be found with the many layers of instrumental lines. The North And WellsBand does a fantastic job at modernizing their sound to draw in a wide audience with lyrics that are relatable and jazz tones that are timeless, catchy and expertly compiled. Well I guess to introduce us, we have Gideon Redic (artist name Twlev3 Twelv3) slaying the vocals and rhythm guitar. John Love with those silky smooth fingers on the keys. Then Jake Stopar filling in the blanks with lead guitar, bass, and drums! We all met at The Second City in Chicago working as night staff employees (cooks, dishwashers, hosts) for the theatres. We aren't funny enough to be comedians apparently, so we decided we'd just play music together instead... The Second City is located at the corner of North and Wells which is how we, cleverly, came up with our band name. We wanted the name to have some sort of special meaning to the three of us so the place where we all met seemed fitting. A true love story. Gideon was born in Chicago but grew up mostly in Georgia until he moved back about 5 years ago. His favorite color is blue but he doesn't have a favorite food. John comes from small town central Illinois (Arenzville, IL. population 409) and moved to Chicago in 2016. Blue is also his favorite color and his favorite food is his Momma's homemade Hungarian Meatballs. Jake was born and raised in Sweet Home Chicago, baby. Although he did move down to Mississippi for a few years to play blues music all throughout the southern states. His favorite color is red and he loves spaghetti. Our producer, Jordan Esparza, was kinda the one who eventually got us all in the same room together after he asked Jake and John to lay some tracks down for one of his final projects as he was just finishing his last semester as a student at SAE Institute in Chicago. Gideon came in with "Chicago Summertime" and nailed the vocal tracks for two other songs we recorded and it all just sort of clicked. Jordan was also able to play our songs for some really impressive producers/professors in Chicago who have worked with some big names in the industry. They all had some really nice, constructive things to say about our music so we took that as a sign to really get serious about what we were doing. So we gotta give a big thanks to Jordan, the fourth member of North and Wells! There is no "right" way to start a band, but we feel like we have deviated from the "typical" way of forming a band. A lot of times, bands will first practice, play live shows, gain a following, and then go into the studio and record an album. We are going a little backwards because it's the hand we were dealt, if you will. We have had a bunch of free studio time thanks to Jordan so we are writing songs and immediately recording them without playing them for anyone. We've really only played a handful of gigs in the short 5 months that we've been a band, but there are more on the way! We've been really lucky to have a very supportive group of Second City folks though and we've been working really hard to get our social media presence out there. We are hoping our hard work is going to be shown off in the next couple months! @thenorthandwellsband, what's up! We meet up to rehearse and then it usually ends up being us joking around and drinking beers because we are just good buddies who happen to be in a band, too. We work really hard, but we also take time to enjoy each others company because that's important to us. Alright that's enough sappy talk. How did you as a group decide on creating such a remarkable sound that is so alluring to listeners? First off, thank you for saying we have a remarkable sound! I don't know if we really ever sat down as a band and decided "hey let's go for this sound." It was more of an unspoken, collective agreement that we all personally liked this style ourselves. We all have similar, corresponding tastes in music so there was never a need for us to do much decision-making on what genre we were going to identify as. Which is something we haven't really done...We like to think of ourselves as some sort of mix between soul, blues, and modern rock I suppose? Labeling our music as "this" genre or "that" isn't necessarily something we really even worry about. We are just making songs that we like! We do have some big time influences though! Artists like Joey Dosik and Vulfpeck, Stevie Wonder, Robert Johnson, The Beatles, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Ed Sheeran, Tame Impala. Any old school soul like Sam Cooke, Marlena Shaw, Ray Charles. We literally could (and do) sit and talk musicians/bands for hours! All of those legends and so many more have led to us creating the sound we are going for! Tell us about a challenge that you as a group have faced during your creative process and how did you overcome it? We are a fairly new band. Individually, we have played a lot of gigs and live shows so we are very comfortable with the performance aspect. But one thing that has been sort of a challenge is recording. We are learning a lot as we go and we are lucky to have Jordan there showing us a lot of new things, but something like how to get the final edit of a song tight and crisp is somewhat of a challenge for us. For example, we have had a few instances where we were just adding to many layers onto a song to the point where it was excessive. Ultimately, we just had to start chopping things out and being okay with giving up certain parts of a song that muddied up the track overall. Another thing that all of us are not accustomed to is playing with a click track. One of the producers we mentioned earlier brought that up to Jordan; "They didn't play to a click track did they?" We didn't... But like we said, we are a new band and you overcome these challenges like you do everything else; practice and patience. Repetition, repetition, repetition. Play with a click track. We're quickly starting to learn when we are adding too much to a song and being okay with cutting. And we will keep learning and growing! Is there a deeper meaning behind your song “Chicago Summertime”? Well with the opening line, "When I first met her, yeah it was on that beach", it's obvious Gideon is referring to a special lady he met at the beach (the one in Hyde Park, yeah that's 53rd beach). But underneath it all, it's truly just a summertime anthem for Chicago. If you haven't experienced a Chicago Summertime, you really are missing out. It's a special time of year. Living in Chicago, you get some truly nasty winters. With Lake Michigan, you get some harsher winds and it's just kinda miserable sometimes. So while the song might sound like its' specifically for one person, it's really for the city of Chicago in general. It's something for them to look forward to on those cold winter days. We want people to listen to the song and just be able to leave the winter behind. We also realize that it's very specific toward Chicago, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't listen to the song! It's just a good tune no matter where you are! We have a running joke in the band that if we get to tour around someday, we will change the name depending on what city we are in. "Seattle Summertime!" "New Orleans Summertime!" "New York Summertime!" Some of the cities fit better than others syllable-wise, but we will cross that bridge when we get there... Can we expect any new music or performances from The North And Wells in 2019? YES. AND YES. For starters, our next single, "Kosher" is going to be dropping on all major streaming platforms on June 14th! We think it's a pretty cool song and we hope you will, too! We are also in the studio right now working on an 8-10 song album which will be self-titled and released sometime toward the end of thesummer. No official release date, YET! But stay tuned in to us because we are planning on putting out a lot of music in the future! Performance-wise we have two big Chicago summertime shows already in place with more to come! I found that "CSicc" pigeon holed my creativity and I was reaching only a few demographics. Although I haven't forgot in which I came I had to reinvent myself for the sake of my integrity in the music and as me as an artist.I got real with myself, "CSicc" wouldn't work. I went back to the drawing board and started thinking about names. After about 40 names, I was watching the news and they were talking about Fort Knox, I thought Hmmmmmm....Since my first name is Cortney, I thought "Cort Knoxx" since that day in 2012. I've kept the name. How does this track “All I Know” compare to one of your earliest tracks? How have you improved? Doesn't compare. Definite growth lyrically and musically. There are some of my earlier records that have stood the test of time in a cult popularity type of sense but..... What do you do to feed your passion for writing verses everyday? Keep myself around people who are doing the same or are even hungrier and more active than I, them calling me spitting their verses motivates me to keep up with them. Having active artist peers is a key plus too. What challenges have you faced in your 21 years in the music industry? How have you overcome these challenges? I've had alot of challenges over the years because I did not have the capitol to compete at a higher level. Through out the years, I've been blessed to be able to work with and learn from some of the most respected and respectable artists and execs in the music biz. These are the people that make the decisions. Now that the social media age allows artists to bypass a label is HUGE because I still retain alot of my relationships and never burned any bridges so now currently I am able to compete at a higher level I can invest in my brand effectively and really make an impact now more than ever. izeure is a 19-year-old musician who was raised in the small town of Gary, Indiana. Not too many people other than Michael Jackson have made it out this city. An Artist with an powerful background story, $eizeure grew up in poverty & didn’t have much he still remembers other than doing homework by the candlelight and pouring his jugs of water in the back of the toilet just to flush. Even memories of suffering from homelessness and the abrupt death of his father after his 13th birthday. This caused $eizeure to suffer from depression at an early age. Despite his father death, $eizeure still holds the positive memory of riding around town with his dad listening to the icons of Aretha Franklin, Earth Wind And Fire, and Anthony Hamilton. Being teased in school because of his appearance didn’t help $eizeure with his depression, instead, it caused him to gain anger and delinquency in his behavior. As $eizeure grew older, he started his new life in Dallas, Texas. He stayed in Dallas from his 8th-grade year up to his first year in college where he was arrested for a weed charge and spent the night in jail. $eizeure began making beats when he was only 15 years old on a program called Acid Pro. As $eizeure continued developing his craft, his brother introduced him to his old recording equipment when he was 16, however, he wasn’t able to begin recording until his 18th birthday. He recorded his first ever song with his sister’s boyfriend. Wondering how the stage name came from? He got the name $eizeure from his mother’s panic attacks and personal seizures he’s experienced in his life. $eizeure released his first record on SoundCloud titled “Geeked up Free$tyle”, and since then he has never stopped making music. $eizure released the single titled “Get Moneyy” off his upcoming album, “Epilep$y” which is coming out this fall. We took a listen to this track and we loved every bit of it! The vibe of the record was super trendy and appealing to the taste of the current generation in which we loved. $eizeure has an honest approach to his lyricism while keeping the balance between authenticism and charisma. You shared a powerful background story with us. In what ways has your upbringing impacted your artistry today? Thanks for having me and for this amazing opportunity. My childhood was rough but like in everything there was good moments i remember riding around listening to neo-soul with my mother, jazz and Funk with my father,and getting up at like 3 oclock in the morning watching punk rock videos with my older sister on mtv. I found a love for all genres and because of that love i chose to be very versatile with my art you never know what to expect going into a seizeure project and you never will. I find it refreshing to change things up and keep people guessing. What was the most challenging aspect of production for you when you began making beats? Do you still face the same obstacles when producing as you did when you were 15? Or is it much easier now!? Honestly the most challenging aspect of production for me was not fully understanding the software and not being able to make the beats i heard in my head sound like the beats i made but years of learning a familiarizing myself with the program those challenges are nothing but a distant memory that i look back on and laugh at now. Do you personally prefer to craft the beat or record the song? It just depends i love to do both equally but i find myself often recording more than i make beats but a large number of my records are produced by me like GETT MONEYY i made the drums and i got the melody from a cinematic loop kit so it really all depends on how I'm feeling when I'm in the studio that day. Tell us about your record “Get Moneyy”, what was the major theme behind it? San Antonio, Texas is home to Madeolife, and up and coming artist that takes a new approach to hip-hop R&B soul. His most recent EP is titled, “4naked Flowers” which was released early May 2019. The EP includes a four songs with total of 13 minutes for the whole EP. The tracks titles include “Psychedelic Bullets”, “Insomnia Death”, “Day ‘N’ Nite”, and “Father I’m Okay”, each boast a vibe of their own but yet cohesively comes together in this EP. The first track brings a kind of funky sound with a cool repeating buzzy bass line and some sick vocals. The beat is killer in this track because it has a somewhat of a retro 90s sound to it . The second track titled, “Insomnia death”, sounds bleak but is a chill and laid back track with a beat similar to the first track but brings another perspective to it. Hints of jazz and contemporary R&B are spread throughout the track bringing an ambient mood to it. Moving on seamlessly to the next track titled “Day ‘n’ night” brings a darker tone quality with a heavier bass line and upbeat rhythms. The EP finishes strong with “Father I’m Okay”. Growing up in household were every weekend was  a party, family gatherings and lots of music. I have always loved being around music it kinda started curing my anxiety I had , so every chance I had I was either listening to music or listening to the radio any type of sound really, but what I want to say sparked my whole inspiration was my long boring ride from school with my father when l a kid, he listen to Kono 101, a radio station for all the classics r&b & soul I was so amazed by the different sounds these groups were making ,funky edges made me feel whole. What inspires you and your sound? Growing up listening Kid Cudi, Mac Miller, Kendrick Lamar, really inspired me , there was no boundaries for these artists they really allowed me to step out & grow as a individual I was also listening to logic and Kyle ( k.i.d.) Them putting their content on YouTube showing themselves progressing as an artist recording in basements making music out of their home .  viewing this allowed me put my career in gear. My mother bought me avid pro tools which was a beginner recording software this allowed me to start understanding The process of making music engineering and producing when l was young. What is the concept behind your EP “4naked flowers”? I had just released a album on March 23 called "Lost tapes" With Different genres such as  rock, R&B, Spanish & hip-hop. I felt like I needed to put a point across I really wanted to connect with the audience so I went back to work and made 4naked Flowers total of four tracks 1. Psychedelic bullets 2. Insomnia death 3. Day "N" Nite 4. Father I’m okay.  I feel like we’re all flowers we have only 24 hours in a day either we stay mad stressed out or we get rid of all the negativity and pursue pure happiness . We all blossom like flowers and we all die one day. Me Living with anxiety I have allowed myself to Make music to calm myself and others with my therapeutic sounds & voice. What is your favorite song on the EP? My favorite song of the project would have to be Father I’m OK it being the last song I tried my best to make a very peaceful ending. Pink Dreamz is a collab group made up of artists My Dreamz and Pink Beatz, along with other artists and producers from their record lable, OCMGVO. The duo have been creating their own beats since their earliest days of high school. They got together in 2019 to form Pink Dreamz and dropped their dope album titled “Same Dreamz”. They have a chilled out vibe that’s great for unwinding after a long day, or just for hanging out with friends. My personal favorite track from “Same Dreamz” is called “Brothers”. This song reminds you to love and thank the real ones in your life who’ve been there for you through the good, the bad, and the ugly. Pink Dreamz sing about their brothers: “All got bills, all got jobs, all got girls, all need guap… I get up, back up again, this our year, I tell my friends, not my friends, I tell my brothers, cus’ they stuck around and not the others”. This verse makes you realize that not all of your “friends” have the best intentions for you, and that only a select few stick through the highs and lows. Pink (Pink Beatz) and I (My Dreamz) have been making music together our whole friendship.  It’s what we linked on.  With the undertaking of making “Pink Dreamz” a viable reality, we celebrate and beef with each other continuously over the music. The catalogue of songs of us in the studio together goes back more than ten years… When it’s been that long you start recognizing patterns and cycles in your own habits.  We’ll ride a wave together and monumentally break ground for Pink Dreamz.  Pink falls back from the dream.  I’ll take on the world by myself, write him a diss track, and repeat.  We’ve been doing the same thing before even starting Pink Dreamz in 2016. We were pushing mixtapes at gas stations in high school together and beyond. It’s why the Dreamz are Pink and why it’s not “friend,” it’s “brother.”  I think you can hear that in the music we make together. Setting all percentages aside, every time we go through the process it’s an evolution. What is your writing process like? I begin by getting into producer mode and really just start making a bunch of beats. I make beats until I feel like the beats I’m producing are the next level from where I was.  After I have a couple beats that I think I can use, I’ll write, rap, sing, and record songs until I make one track that I feel in my heart is the next step. With that one song, the project or album usually unfolds. I don’t know where a lot of it comes from truthfully.  A lot of it is vague God sent ideas that I build, and build upon.  It’s like an artist looking at a slate of marble and seeing the sculptor before they chisel it out.  The songs and albums are already there, I just have to make them. Can you talk about your track “Brothers” and the main theme behind it? “Brothers” is me thanking my brothers from others and their mothers.  I’ve had a lot of friends but “my brothers” are the ones who ride, have rode with me from the jump, and never quit. It’s me thanking them for chasing this crazy dream with me.  It’s me almost apologizing to them that it’s never been “our year” like I’ve promised them it would be, every year.  It’s me coming to the resolution that, even if we never succeeded the way we wanted to, I wouldn’t have ever wanted to be doing anything else with anyone else. We have always been living the dream. “It was always our year.” Before I can finish relaying and dedicating that notion to them, the song symbolically drops off into applause and cameras flashing because it finally happens… and the dreams come true. What is the most important message behind brothers that you want your listeners to take with them? The main take away I want listeners to get from the song “Brothers” which is also one of the themes of the album SAME DREAMZ, is “try, try again.” I tied in the theme of Brown v. The Board of Education into the release and album art of Same Dreamz because of that.  There is a timeline of events and cases that were not as successful at initiating the end of segregation in public schools before Brown v. The Board of Education, but each next one paved the road for the following one to go a little further. Perseverance of the heart changes the world. Can we expect more music from you in 2019? Ghostwriter LA has had history in the Swedish hip hop scene since 1996. Eventually moving to the United States in 2004, Ghostwriter LA took a 15 year hiatus from music and is now finally entering the music scene once again with his talents. Currently, Ghostwriter LA is in the works of producing several up and coming LA artists. Ghostwriter’s sound and vibe stems heavily from 90’s hip hop and R&B with old school sounds and a touch of contemporary RnBass. The song titled, “WORK IN PROGRESS”, is Ghostwriter LA’s most recent song where he experiments with genres outside of his comfort zone, this being Deep House and EDM. Obviously, a big change from 90s hip hop/ R&B, Ghostwriter shows that he is multifaceted as a musician and producer. Chill vibes are emitted from this track where Ghostwriter LA brings a new approach to EDM and Deep house where it isn’t focused on a heavy bass drop but more on the sub melodies of the track. Combining vocals and smooth piano melodies all put together nicely to create a perfect stepping stone for Ghostwriter LA to get into a new genre of music. Ghostwriter LA will definitely be making big strides in the music industry, and listeners need to be prepared for what he has to offer. Check out "Work In Progress" and read more below in our exclusive interview. A 15 year hiatus is a long time, what made you take it, and why for that long? I got on a different career track. I worked as a journalist among other things, traveled around a lot and lived in many different places. I wrote two novels and many books for other people as a ghostwriter, telling their stories. But there was something missing in my life. I think I felt that I didn't have the musical talent. But then one day, someone who had listened to my old productions told me that I needed to get back into it. And ever since then, I can't stop. What made you start to make EDM and Deep house music? Honestly, I don't really know. I dabble in many genres. I've made pop and rock too. Obviously, my core is RnB. But I think I want to make happier songs. I'm not much of a dancer myself but I do love to watch other people have a good time. What inspires you to make music? It's something that's just inside of me. I have a very strong urge to express myself, my innermost emotions. And I think music works as a language. It's amazing how we connect emotionally to sound waves. What has been your biggest challenge in creating music? I'm impatient and sometimes I fall into very deep depressions where I have a hard time getting anything done. But I've realized that making music has an amazing healing power. What is the meaning behind the song title “Work in Progress”? The meaning is that I'm not perfect... I'm a work in progress. But I'm still there for you. I'm doing my best. What's next for you? I've been meeting with and started to work on tracks for some very interesting artists. I'm super excited to see where it may lead, especially since I've been dedicating so much time to perfecting my production and songwriting skills. I feel like I have a lot to offer. Based in Palm Bay Florida, Morgan McCarty is a 27 year old singer-songwriter who has been writing music for ten years and has had two releases. A multi-talented artist, McCarty plays a variety of instruments that include guitar,ukulele, and piano. Morgan’s most recent album is titled “Los Angeles” (Extended Edition) which can be found on most streaming platforms. In McCarty’s track, “I’d Rather Be Sleeping” we get a cool throwback ambient sound of guitars and soft reverb. Morgan’s vocals are distinct and light which blends well with the soft pick up beat creating a chill vibe. The lyrics capture you as McCarty seems to discuss her personal conflicts where she ultimately would just rather be sleeping. A lyric that really pulls at the heart strings is “I sew my smile on and pray to disappear”. Lyrics like this make Morgan so raw and real that a lot of people can probably relate to. While touching upon a heavy topic, McCarty is still able to produce a soft and upbeat sound that is neither happy nor sad. Morgan’s sound can be described best as a new wave of indie ambient pop music with her choice of instrumentation and soft beats. What is the main theme of your song, “I’d rather be sleeping”? This song is mainly about feeling like you haven't reached a point in your life when you felt like you should. At its purest form it was written by my depression, just full of everyone around me achieving their goals and creating beautiful lives while I just slept my days away and dealt with my own insecurities and "you cant do this" voices. I think the line "It should be harder to live than it is to dream" is what sums up the entire theme for me personally. Because at a certain point, even dreaming about what I wanted to be, just felt like another jar I couldn't open, and its a very sad way to live. I wanted this song to be the final chapter in a book so that i could move on and find more hopeful ways of doing things. How do you as a songwriter get past creative blocks? For me personally, I haven't figured out any master plan to battle creative blocks. If I feel like I'm in one I try to set down whatever I'm doing and leave it alone. I'll play games or watch tv or hang out with friends and then try to come back to it later. Its never an exact science. Sometimes I'll go back to it later and it'll be waiting for me, other times it'll take longer and all of a sudden like, months later I'll be trying to get to sleep and verses will just pour into my brain. The only real way I know to get past it, is to relax and let it happen to you, instead of trying to control it. Which is your favorite instrument to write music on? My main instrument is guitar and 99% of my songs are guitar based but I really loved working with the sound machine on this one. I'm constantly trying to learn new ways to make the sounds that I'm hearing in my head so that I'm as honest as possible with what I put into the world. If i had to choose just one instrument though, it would be my ukulele. There's just something about it that's always fun and relaxing when I write with it. What got you into pursuing music and making it your career? I've been singing since I was old enough to talk basically. I would go around to all of my relatives at family gatherings and sing Life's a Dance by John Michael Montgomery until they begged me to stop. I always feel like that's probably why I don't write in the country genre very much. I was around 13 when I wrote my first full song and 16 when my parents bought me my first guitar. I've always loved to sing and so many of my personal heroes are musicians so its just always been something that I've dreamed of doing. What do you hope people will gain from listening to your music? Right now, the world is no where near a perfect place. Growing up with anxiety and depression I always latched on to bands and artists that would talk about similar issues and it really made me feel like I wasn't alone. And while they didn't know me personally, they became my best friends. I would go to them for advice, when I needed to just vent or cry, when my family was fighting, and they would always be there for me, without fail. I've always just wanted to be that for someone else. I've always had the mindset of, yes this song might suck, but if even one person hears it and can relate to it, and maybe even find a friend in it, then I'm doing my job. What's next for you? I'm currently working on my next full length album, titled "TBD", which will be featuring I'd Rather Be Sleeping. I'm working on making it a mix of all different kinds of songs, some more like this with the sound machine, some guitar, and maybe even something new I haven't done yet. While I want it to have some happy songs, I never want to make an album that's all happy all the time. That's not how life is, and while we need it every once in a while, I feel like we need the sad stuff, the bad stuff, the real stuff just as much. Era Wadi, an independent hip-hop artist & songwriter based in Austin Texas, but was born & raised in the south of Texas, early musical inspirations included the soul and rock groups of the ’60s and 70’s. Wadi is determined to put Austin on the map as a serious hip hop scene and make the most of living in the live music capital of the world. Era Wadi released his single titled “Pay to Play” and this record gets me HYPE! The zesty energy and groovy rap beat created the perfect mainstream hit. “Pay to Play” would do extremely well at local parties and clubs. The production and arrangement of the record radiate the right type of vibrancy into the listener body, which evokes us to dance. The rhythmic and deftly-produced track refines the definition of ‘club bangers.’ the eclectic aesthetic and addicting bars become memorable for us. If i was the head of a record label, and Era Wadi walked in and played that song for me, no doubt in my mind would I sign him? It’s presentable, hip, and fashionably catered to the current generation of hip-hop. Although “Pay To Play” could be a great mainstream hit today, it’s also highly classic with the raw lyricism that serves the idea of skilled songwriting. “Pay To Play” is a fitting hit for the colorful rap culture that’s exuding urban swag and joy. Between the different locations in Texas, which has been your favorite so far, and essentially impacted your artistry today? Living in Texas is like living in another country sometimes, coming up my family moved all over South Texas. Before the age of 14 we had moved over a dozen times, of course friendships didn’t last because we wouldn’t stay in the same place longer than a year. The silver lining to that is that I had no choice but to get along with everyone, all people, all backgrounds, all mindsets.  At 19 after graduating I moved to Austin, the eclectic vibe of the city the energy that you can feel through the pavement was enough to finally push me to pursue hip hop fully which from the jump was where I knew I had a talent. The scene in Austin for hip hop has not bubbled to the surface yet despite Austin’s tile of “The Live Music Capitol of the World” Hip Hop is sadly the ugly step-kid. My drive is to change that shit, and establish a sound of the city so when you think of Austin Hip Hop your next thought is Era Wadi, the next thought is their sound is dope. What has been the most monumental occurrence in your career so far and why!? There have been a few.  I was found on Reddit of all places by an award winning Danish Producer, Hedegaard who heard an early cut of one of my songs I posted to the r/making hip-hop subreddit. He was a big fan amazingly, and wanted to sample my voice to use in making his music for his drops and hooks and that type of shit. After sending him a rough idea he said “fuck it” let’s make a whole song. New World Old Money was released on Copenhagen Records through Universal in April. That led to another collaboration with him and another with a fellow Producer, that has been and continues to be a pretty monumental occurrence. Since then I have released my first EP Layoff Season, and that has also been an amazing experience. There's been tons of learning along the way, massive growth and humbling moments all preparing me for what’s to come. Tell us about this dope record “Pay to Play”. What was the vision behind it? The Inspiration for Pay to Play was the somehow recent realization by we the people that those with means are living a different reality than you and I. Again and again I see and hear stories of powerful and wealthy individuals committing appalling acts, highly illegal shit that would land a normal motherfucker in jail so long his kids only see him through glass, and his grand kids would only know his name. The moral is nothing is impossible the same way that everything is for sale for the right price, I think as people we need to ask what the fucks our value? And question if anyone on earth is worth millions or even billions by comparison, especially those who were simply born to be rich. Was there a specific lyric arrangement you were seeking while writing “Pay to Play”? I would say this song along with all the music on Layoff Season is meant to make you dance and then make you think. What that means is there is depth to this song and my music, there are stories and thought provoking lines mixed into a song you can still listen to and bump. I want you to listen to my shit and it have you think about the world, without me standing on a soap box or the listener feeling preached to. I want to show the audience the world through my mind and I believe that there are solutions to our problems. There are good days, there are shit days, but we can change our reality. If it’s not meant to be me, then my music will be the soundtrack. What’s next for you Era? Honestly I am just getting started, my sound is just finding its legs, but it's a Shaq-like toddler. Meaning greatness is in the future but work and growth are present. A full length album, my first music video literally made in house, building a larger fan base and touring off the strength of that fandom.  I’m sure there are things in the future that I can’t predict, but I am prepared.
