- Bite Into Lauren Hulbert’s Sweet New Single, “Honeydew”
From Thousand Oaks to Nashville, singer-songwriter and refreshing folk recording artist Lauren Hulbert treats listeners to a sweet new single titled "Honeydew." The talented singer-songwriter has been writing music for over 17 years. She recorded her debut album, Beneath the Soil, in 2017 and her follow-up EP, Superbloom, in 2020. Both projects showcased Hulbert's stripped-down acoustic style, with a profound focus on the human condition. In her latest single, "Honeydew," Lauren Hulbert touches hearts and minds with an easygoing, uplifting, and enchanting listening experience. Also releasing an accompanying music video, co-directed with videographer Wren Huxley, Lauren Hulbert has no problem captivating audiences—whether it's with her stunning vocal performance or engaging, meaningful visuals. Stepping into the new single, "Honeydew," we're met with soft acoustic guitar leading into Lauren Hulbert's gentle vocals expressing her love for the new days, morning light, and her sweet honey...dew. Her tender melodies and lighthearted approach make this song incredibly easy to listen to, offering equal parts passion and straight-up happiness that's, albeit, refreshing in today's music scene. The song's music video offers a laid-back view of what seems to be the honeymoon phase of a relationship. With its whimsical, fairy-tale-like setting near the lakeside with friends and a soulmate, there's an underlying sense of fulfillment that anyone can appreciate. It's a passionate, playful, and uplifting listening experience that not only showcases Lauren Hulbert's talented vocals but also her ability to write great songs about the universal experience of love. When life's been bitter, bite into the "Honeydew" that is Lauren Hulbert's latest single, now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to Buzz, Lauren! We love the passionate and playful vibe of your latest single, "Honeydew." What inspired you to write such a romantic song like this? I wrote "Honeydew" in the early stages of a romantic relationship. It was the first time I'd been with someone who I could see or dream a future with, and at times, it felt like a dream itself. This song was written when I was in the blissful feelings of opening up to someone and falling in love. He was a writer, which I adored, and the outro lyrics are a repetition of "I love you when you write," which was me saying that I loved when he was engaging in his passion. Would you say that "Honeydew" is a good representation of your sound and style as an artist? How does this song represent you? "Honeydew" is a good representation of my indie-folk style, and although I have other songs with much heavier themes, they all have a common thread of authenticity, honesty, vulnerability, depth, and understanding, often with sweetness and simplicity. What I like most about this song, which I'd say is part of my songwriting style, is the folky finger-picking, interesting chord variations, simple yet clever lyrics, and beautiful ending. I especially love the production, with sparkly synth after I sing "I will bloom for you," which always has me visualizing a flower blooming. This song represents the sweet, light-hearted side of me that just wants to lay in the grass and look at the sky and dream and sing and have no worries, which is what I wish I could do most of the time, honestly! What was your songwriting process like for "Honeydew?" Was it easy for you to convey such passionate and personal emotions? I began with the opening riff first, then chords, melody next and lyrics last. I typically write songs by messing around on the guitar until I like what I hear and go from there. The opening riff is what was created first - so I guess you could say that is what gave the emotions I was feeling some direction. It was one of those songs that happens really easily, naturally and didn't take long to finish. The lyric "Honeydew" just came out - I didn't know what it meant and still don't, ha! But the song is sweet like honey and fresh like dew... I trust myself to come up with lyrics out of nowhere, rather than thinking about it first. So I guess that random lyric also helped shape the song's theme. The second verse was written last and took the longest... I had to wait for it to feel right... Finally, one day, I was outside watching a bee on a flower, and then it came to me. What was your experience shooting the music video for "Honeydew?" What was that behind-the-scenes process like? It was wild, to be honest. I co-directed this with Wren Huxley, who I know through friends. I was visiting Sebastopol, where I'd always pictured filming this video, and therefore had limited time but she was available to make it happen. I originally thought we would do a simple, half-day shoot, but once we got our ideas flowing together, it became a fantastical other-worldly story! It was stressful since the project became much bigger than we'd both expected, but we are both super proud of how much we did in such a short amount of time. It all came together and the supporting actors appeared sort of serendipitously, which, looking back, actually fits right into the theme of the film! It felt great to finally be making a music video for this song, and I felt lots of love and support from my friends, who donated their time and acting to make it possible. More specifically, we first got together to brainstorm ideas for the story, locations, and costumes. We scouted a couple of places and had some friends recommend spots, too. We ended up with 3 locations - a flower farm, a local park, and her friend's land - over 3 days of shooting, and we had to postpone one shoot day due to a heat wave. We both rallied friends and I made some flower faces and shopped for props. It was just Wrenna and I organizing the entire thing and co-directing with a fluid shot list of scenes, which we intuitively altered or changed while we were shooting. It was A LOT to do in such a short amount of time since it was just the two of us taking responsibility for the whole thing, and we planned it so last minute. Pretty wild, looking back, but we pulled it off. It was fun, overwhelming, and stressful, and I was completely exhausted by the end. It was worth it. What did you want listeners to take away from "Honeydew?" What emotions or sensations did you want to make them feel? The message of the music video is that life can be silly and playful! Enjoy the journey! It's not just the destination. Let yourself into that wonderful child-like state of curiosity and adventure. View life through a fantastical lens, where you will hear nature speaking to you and things guiding you along your way. Drink the tea. Jump in the water. Fall in love. Do it all again. I hope the song makes people feel joyful, warm, light-hearted, hopeful, safe, and excited for what's next. I hope it reminds them that love is magical. Instagram Facebook
- Chris Bullinger Sparks Flames In New Release, “Darlin’ ’n’ Me”
Coming in hot from Nashville, singer-songwriter and country recording artist Chris Bullinger smacks the speakers with a heavily groovy new single titled "Darlin' 'n' Me." Influenced by the storytelling stylings of icons like Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt, and Steve Earle, Chris Bullinger's career did a 180 when he became a leader in one of North America's significant renewable energy companies. With his love for music coursing through his veins and over a hundred songs written, Chris returned to music with a new outlook. Treating listeners to the new and improved Chris Bullinger is his newest release, "Darlin' 'n' Me," the lead single from his upcoming album Waitin' To Be Seen, hitting streaming platforms on August 16. The Tennessee-based artist says "I always felt it was a disservice not to share these songs. I'm thankful that they're now out there, ready to connect with anyone, be it just one person or a million." Jumping into "Darlin' 'n' Me," we're met with a twangy and bright electric guitar that leads into a bluesy midwest instrumental alongside Chris Bullinger's gritty and melodic vocals reminiscent of his musical influences. From the jump, he creates an insanely groovy atmosphere that's bound to get you up and moving to the dancefloor. The song's playful and witty lyrics paint various scenes of him and his darlin' heading to the market and the garden, getting wrapped up in this woman's mysterious ways. The country-meets-blues instrumentals are top-tier, making it an instant crowdpleaser at any party. If anything, it's a perfect example of Chris B's new and improved style. Hear it yourself and feast your ears on Chris Bullinger's latest single, "Darlin' 'n' Me," now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to Buzz, Chris! We love the energy and rhythm in your recent single, "Darlin' 'n' Me." What inspired you to create this tune? Thanks for having me. This tune really sprang out of the concept of how great it would be to be as beautiful as other people see you sometimes. Or as the song says, even half as beautiful. What sounds or styles influenced the instrumental feel of "Darlin' 'n' Me?” Who or what might have helped bring this song to life? A number of folks are telling me they hear Dylan vibes, which is totally cool with me. If you’re influenced by what you listen to most, then that would make perfect sense. Regarding the video for "Darlin' 'n' Me," what was it like working with Actuality Films to bring this impressive animation to life? Was this your first animated video made by them? What a great experience working with Actuality Films. They actually animated a song from my previous album, How to Bleed, and I couldn’t wait to collaborate again. And that’s really what it is—collaboration. I storyboard what I’m envisioning, and they’ve got a similar sense of style or crazy or whatever you wanna call it. So they just run with it and add in so many clever details. Super fun. Why did you choose to release "Darlin 'n' Me" as the lead single from your upcoming album Waitin' To Be Seen? How does this song prepare listeners for what's to come? Waitin’ To Be Seen is a double album that is laid out like a collection of vignettes, in chronological order. It’s all about seeking connection, maybe finding it, maybe losing it, and what it really takes to achieve it. The main characters are a gal and a guy, or—said another way—a darlin’ n’ me. This particular song is the one vignette that’s a little snapshot of the whole album. Could you drop any hints about your upcoming album, Waitin' To Be Seen? Where do you plan on taking the album, and what are you most excited about? I’m pretty stoked about it, as crazy as it may be to release a twenty-three-song concept album these days. Singles, I suppose, is the name of the game, but I’d like to imagine listeners starting at the beginning and listening to the twenty-three songs and taking in the entire story. The album is about seeking connection, but it’s also actually an effort to connect. And that possibility—that this album may connect with even one person—is exciting to me. Instagram Facebook
- Tyler Allred Follows Up "Anxious Anyway" With New Music Video
Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter and versatile recording artist Tyler Allred returns with an introspective new music video for his latest single, "Anxious Anyway." In a recent interview, the expressive singer-songwriter dove into the simplicity and "bare-bones" approach of his recent single, "Anxious Anyway," stating that "it gives a pretty good sense of where I think my music is heading...just guitars, vocals, and drums." As Tyler himself puts it, the song and, by extension, the music video is not crafted with a prescriptive message in mind. They are open to interpretation, making them an empathetic expression of challenging human emotions that anyone can appreciate. While the song itself is quite bare-bones, so is the music video. The visuals for "Anxious Anyway" see Tyler Allred strolling Santa Monica Pier solo in black and white. It seems to be a very introspective music video. Considering the song itself is very emotional and personal, it portrays those anxious thoughts he sings of perfectly but from a unique angle. As he treats himself to cotton candy alone and plays a few games solo, you notice that he's not performing at all. He's just going about his day. But that might represent the ongoing "anxious" thoughts he sings of, as he might seem cool on the outside, but he's struggling on the inside, even when he's riding the Ferris wheel. Of course, that's our interpretation, but it also looks like some needed "me-time" by the ocean...and what can beat that? You can find Tyler Allred's newest music video for his recent single, "Anxious Anyway," on YouTube. The song is also available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome back to Buzz, Tyler! We appreciate the introspective and natural feel of your new music video for "Anxious Anway." Was there any particular motivation to shoot the entire video solo at Santa Monica Pier? And why in black and white? Most of the credit goes to my friend Ryan Hilary. The pier was his idea, and we just figured we could get some interesting shots there. It was originally in color, but when watching it back, I thought the black-and-white matched the song better. Throughout the video for "Anxious Anyway," you're seen engaging in typical pier things like eating cotton candy and playing games. What led you to portray these experiences alone, and how do they relate to the song's core theme? We just thought it’d be funny to do fun activities while looking completely apathetic and bored. Not sure if it translated the way we wanted but it was something. Why did you choose not to perform or sing in the music video for "Anxious Anyway?" What motivated that approach? Never really been into videos with lip syncing or performance, at least not for myself. The next video I do I very likely won’t appear at all. Was there any significance to that final smile in the photo booth near the end of the music video for "Anxious Anyway"? Does it represent anything in particular? I think that was just to show that I don't take myself too seriously. In the Photo Booth, I awkwardly smile, but the photos develop with me still looking apathetic, with no smile. We did shoot this video on a whim and with very little planning. How do you think the overall video for "Anxious Anyway" enhances the song itself? How does it tie into the song's core theme of anxiety and overthinking? I’m not entirely sure it does, to be honest. I think, if anything, it just shows that when you’re stuck in your head all day, you might miss out on some things. Instagram

Canadian singer-songwriter and pop recording artist Olivia Penalva kicks off a new era of her music career with her debut 11-track album, Spiderwebs. The talented recording artist has been releasing music since the age of 13, evolving into one of the hottest pop acts in the Canadian independent music scene. With over 25 million streams, Olivia has landed herself amongst the greats with a Top 20 spot on Canadian radio for her single, "Love Me," becoming CHR Mediabase's second most-added song. More recently, Olivia Penalva is soaking in the excitement of releasing her newest project, a debut 11-track album titled Spiderwebs. Its lead single (and title track) was produced by Ryan Stewart (Carly Rae Jepsen, Simple Plan) and brings listeners into an emotional pop-dance track that discusses the sadly relatable theme of losing your identity in a relationship. Diving deeper into the lead single, "Spiderwebs," we're met with melodic acoustic guitar alongside warm pop drums and Olivia Penalva's tender vocals. As she recalls letting someone change her in a relationship, she makes a stunning realization that anyone can learn something from: "I never thought loving you would mean losing me." Serving as the lead single, the title track, and intro track to her debut album, "Spiderwebs," indeed sets the tone for a compelling journey into the highs and lows of self-discovery...with Olivia Penalva’s knack for creating sonically irresistible pop tunes. If the project sounds anything like this song, we're in for a treat. Do yourself a favor and hit play on Olivia Penalva's debut album and title track, "Spiderwebs," now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to Buzz, Olivia! We're so impressed by the palpable emotion and power you've brought to your recent single, "Spiderwebs." What experiences inspired you to write this song? Thank you so much! In my early twenties, I experienced a relationship in my career where I had absolutely no control over myself or my life, and for a few years it had really messed with my head and how I handled my emotions. The song is really about giving up all the good parts of yourself to someone you thought cared about you and had your best interests at heart when really you were just feeding their ego. Which untimely leads to a loss of identity. Writing the song was an outlet for me to express how I was feeling at a time when I felt very silenced about the things I was experiencing. At the time, it felt very isolating but releasing this song has reminded me of the power that music has and its ability to connect us through sharing our experiences/emotions. How does the single "Spiderwebs" set the tone for the entire album to follow? Why did you choose to release this track first? “Spiderwebs” was kind of the catalyst for me writing this entire album. When I wrote that song I felt like it was a step to reclaiming my power. It became clear to me after that I should write about all of the other messy feelings and emotions I, or other people in my life had experienced that led me to where I am now. A reminder that life is messy, people are messy, and although sometimes we can get lost along the way, We are in charge of creating our own paths and that nobody has the power to take that away from us. At its core, what does the album Spiderwebs stand for and represent? And what does it mean to you? This album means everything to me. I’ve pretty much always written from authentic experience but I felt like this album was the first time I was using my own music as therapy to be able to let it out and let it go. At its core, this album is really about how lost we can get and how hard it can be to move on from things that hurt us. What was your experience working alongside producer Ryan Stewart for the single "Spiderwebs?” What was that collaboration like? Working with Ryan is always amazing. I’ve known him for almost ten years now and I feel like that’s why we work so well together. Music is very personal so it can be intimidating to bring ideas to producers and other writers but Ryan has always encouraged me to try the things that are scary and because of that, I am so glad to have had him produce this album and have him as an ally through this journey pushing me to share my art with the world. And we just always have such a fun time writing and working together so I couldn’t have asked for a better partner on this project. Are there any interesting facts or info you’d like listeners to know about the album Spiderwebs? What should they know before listening? I love this question because these are the things I like to learn from other artists when I hear their work. I think one fun fact is that this album actually started as a follow-up EP to my last one ‘Assembly required’. I loved the project we were working on but it didn’t feel authentic anymore to who I was in that moment after all of the things I had experienced in this industry and in my personal life. I remember waking up one day and calling my team and telling them we’ve got it all wrong and that ‘Spiderwebs’ this single I had held onto for so long was the story and the version of myself that I wanted to share with the world. From there, this album was born, and I truly do believe everything happens for a reason. Instagram Facebook

Seattle’s rising star continues to stay true to himself and make music anyone can relate to and enjoy. Propelled by his signature soulful, raspy vocals and an innate gift for crafting melodies that evoke visceral levels of emotion, Seattle native Chris Sloan is no stranger to the enchanting power of music. Weaving tales of love, loss, and redemption, Sloan has carved his niche in the music scene with his unwavering dedication to artistry and raw emotion. As his star continues to burn brighter and brighter as he shoots for the top, keep an eye out for this talented rising star as he continues to impress with each release. Although releases like his emotional 2021 debut “Where Do I Stand” put him on the map, it was on Sloan’s debut EP “Into The Shade” that he indeed showed what he was fully capable of. Coming in at a healthy serving of 12 tracks, “Into The Shade” captured the hearts of listeners everywhere, including the prestigious Recording Academy. Not only was Sloan made an official voting member, but his song “Where Do I Stand” was also placed on the official voting ballot, a true testament to his artistic depth. The first thing you notice on Sloane’s new release, “Ember in the Wind,” is a slow, winding guitar that immediately creates one of his signature melancholic soundscapes. As expected, his lyrics complement this mood as well. “There’s an aching in my soul,” Sloan sings, setting the stage while simultaneously looking inward to a tired heart. Although it might not be apparent initially, there’s a certain level of deliberateness to every lull, every stressed syllable, and countless other factors. Although only Sloan might see them, “Ember In the Wind” is your sign to trust the process; you’re definitely in good hands. With each note and every lyric, Chris Sloan’s releases offer a raw and vulnerable glimpse into the heart of one of Seattle’s rising stars, and “Ember in the Wind” is no different. Whenever you’re ready, tap in and stream Chris Sloan’s latest release, “Ember in the Wind,” on all majour streaming platforms. Welcome to Buzz, Chris Sloan! We loved “Ember In The Wind,” we had to ask! What did you first envision when you were inspired to make this release, and was this final version the same as you were initially thinking back then or different? Thank you for inviting me to speak with you! When I wrote this song, I specifically wanted to write a more "haunting" type singer-songwriter song. I had this vision in my head of a lonely cowboy with a guitar strapped to his back, wandering through the cold, damp, misty mountains, forever searching for his purpose and long-lost love. It was a vision in my head that just kept coming back to me, so I wrote a song around that actual vision to try to capture what that vision would "sound" like." What does your creative process typically look like, and what’s your favorite part of that process? My creative process can change from time to time. However, I usually have some sort of subject matter in mind or emotion I'm dealing with. I then write the chord progression and vocal melody around that subject matter or emotion. After the chord progressions and vocal melodies are ironed out, I sit down and write the lyrics to the song. Once all that is complete, I record a demo from home, complete with guitar, vocal melody, harmonies, and lyrics, to listen back to see where the song is going or needs to go. Then, off to my producer to await his constructive criticism, hahaha. However, sometimes songs just come to me out of nowhere. I pulled over on the way to work in a random parking lot because I heard a vocal melody in my head, so I had to audio record myself singing it so I wouldn't lose the melody. It's crazy how something will just pop into your head at any random moment. Your upcoming EP “Sunset Road” is slated for release sometime soon, right? Is there anything you’re especially excited to show your fans on this project? Yes! My "Sunset Road" EP will be available on all streaming platforms on July 1st, 2024. I am so proud of the songs on this EP. I poured my heart, soul, and emotions into these songs as they are heartfelt, honest, and vulnerable. It's a very melancholy, haunting, beautiful record. Stripped back, acoustic, soulful vocals, but with moments of deep dark organ/synth to create a really haunting sound. One of the tracks I'm especially excited about is my own reimagined rendition of Cover Me by Candlebox. It's a slowed-down, acoustic, haunting version of the original huge rock hit. The track actually features Peter Klett, the lead guitar player from Candlebox. Peter heard my demo of my own rendition and liked it. We communicated privately and ended up recording the song together. He not only tracked electric guitar on the song but also mixed, mastered, and produced the track. So, the fact that the original writer and performer of a radio hit rock song actually tracked, mixed, mastered, and produced a cover of their own famous song is so unique, and Peter and I really hope everyone digs the new rendition. The song was engineered by Taylor Carroll from Bear Creek Studios in Woodinville, Washington. Taylor actually engineered, mixed, mastered, and produced the other 5 songs on the record. Taylor has worked with the biggest and the best, and we have also recorded around 27 songs together over the last few years. He understands me, knows how I work, and hears what I hear in my head. It's rare to find a producer/engineer who truly understands you as an artist and understands your musical vision for each song. What does music mean to you, and what do you want your listeners to feel when they hear your music? Ah! That is such a big question. Music, to me, is everything. It's intertwined in everything that I do. Whether I'm in the car, at home, at work, with friends, alone, outside, inside, camping, or traveling, there is always music on in my life. It sets my mood. It calms me. It puts me at ease. It's also why I write my own music, as it is incredibly therapeutic for me to put my current emotions or whatever I am going through or processing into a song. In regards to my listeners, I guess I want them to be able to listen to the songs and connect the feeling of the song and lyrics to their own personal situations or emotions. No matter the subject or reason why I wrote the song, I want listeners to be able to intertwine the songs into their own lives. That is where music is the most powerful, in my opinion, when you feel as if a song is speaking directly to you. What’s next for Chris Sloan, and is there anything you’d like to say to your fans? I am already working on my third record. I know this one hasn't come out yet, but as all musical artists know, it never stops. The second idea or song is done, and another one pops into your head. So, after the July 1st release of Sunset Road, I started recording a giant song I wrote a little while back with a producer on the East Coast, who has won two Grammys. He is brilliant, and I can't wait to start working with him on that song. And to my fans. I just want fans and listeners to know that as a fully independent artist, I am very thankful and grateful to anyone who listens to my material, shares it, comments on it, etc. I know there is so much music out there and so many options, so for someone to take the time to listen to my art and then share it or continue to listen to it means more than the world to me. I appreciate anyone who has supported me and my craft, and I think we should all support each other a little more. I appreciate you asking me some questions about the release. Instagram

- Bekka Dowland Shares Inspiration Behind New Single, “Ain’t Thinkin’ Bout You”
Welcome to Buzz, Bekka! We're moving and grooving to your empowering new single, "Ain't Thinkin Bout You." What life experiences inspired you to write this tune? Hey, thanks for having me again! This song was inspired by a true story. I landed myself in a “situationship,” as they call it. I tend to get myself into these situations where my kindness is mistaken for far more than what it is. There was a guy in my life a few years ago that I had to encounter pretty frequently because we were coworkers. He thought we were something, but we weren’t. I always try to be polite and friendly without appearing flirty, especially when that isn’t my intention. Long story short, my life changed, and I didn’t work in the same place. A few years passed, and I was certain his phone number was blocked. Well, I was wrong. Out of the blue, I got a LONG text saying, “I miss you,” “Let’s get coffee,” etc. I thought, “You’ve got to be kidding me,” because I had already put the situation behind me. Then, this song came to life in about 30 minutes on my basement floor. How does "Ain't Thinkin Bout You" differ from your previous release, "Malibu?” What makes these songs unique on their own? I like to call “Ain’t Thinkin’ Bout You” the sassy sister to Malibu. Malibu has a very chill and relaxed vibe to it. With the new release, I feel it packs more of a punch and captures a more straightforward vibe while bringing some spice. I think I took a more simplistic approach with Malibu that perfectly told part 1 of this story. I knew following it up, and I wanted it to be more elevated. My team and I worked hard to make “Ain’t Thinkin’ Bout You” fun yet sassy to get our point across. What sort of feeling or vibe did you want listeners to feel in "Ain't Thinkin Bout You?” How did you want this single to impact them? I think anyone who didn’t know how to tell someone to “get lost politely” will relate to this. The lyrics are very straightforward and perfectly articulate my intention for this person to move on. I want this to be the sassy anthem they can sing along to, and I want them to realize that it’s okay to be that blunt. I also want listeners to understand that even if their genuine friendliness is mistaken or read into “more,” it doesn’t mean they should stop being nice. You know your intentions; sometimes, you must step outside your comfort zone to ensure those intentions are clear. What was your favorite part about creating "Ain't Thinkin Bout You?” What moments or parts of the process did you enjoy most? I absolutely loved everything about creating this song. My team is amazing at what they do and blows my expectations out of the water. My co-writer Danny only added a line to each pre-chorus and a line in the bridge that I really think helped tie the story together. I love bouncing ideas off each other because our minds work similarly, making everything a lot easier. Being in the studio with my sound engineer, Drew is always a treat. He has an act for getting the emotions out of me that we want to be heard in each song we record. I think we nailed the anger and sass on this one. From there, we sent the vocals off to Marcus, who does all of the mixing and mastering of my songs from LA. The echoey vocals he created on this track really elevated the song. If I had to choose one moment that was my favorite throughout this entire process, I would say the music video shoot. My acting manager/ producer, EJ, is the best. Working with him feels like hanging out with family. We always have so much fun choosing different locations, scenarios, etc., for filming. We flew Brandon in from Chicago for this project to film and edit. Working with him was such an honor. He’s great at storytelling and capturing an audience with visuals. We had an amazing day filming on the beach, in a hotel, an ice cream shop…we truly went everywhere in Fort Myers that day. I think it’s my favorite music video I’ve done so far. Overall, I truly enjoyed every single part of creating “Ain’t Thinkin’ Bout You.” Seeing a song go from a voice memo to a studio recording is fun. What's your goal in creating music in the broader scheme of things, and how do songs like "Ain't Thinkin Bout You" help you achieve it? My goal has always been to make connections with people. I enjoy writing about experiences I’ve had, hoping that maybe even one person can relate to them. I hope to play more shows this year and expand my fan base. I think songs like “Ain’t Thinkin’ Bout You” really help with this because although it’s upbeat and fun, it’s also real. I mean, this is a real story written about my real life. I hope that by opening up with my songs and sharing these stories, other people will know that they aren’t alone in the things that they go through. Instagram Facebook

Welcome to Buzz, Mama B! We are so impressed by your transition into children's music with your upcoming single, "Puffer Fish." What inspired you to make this artistic shift? It has been an organic transition into children's music, and 'Puffer Fish' captures exactly what I hoped to achieve in this genre - kids' music that parents would also enjoy listening to! Once I had kids of my own, I started searching for music that not only resonated with my kids but resonated with me, after all I was the one having to listen to it on repeat! I couldn't find what I wanted to hear, so I created my own. My goal has always been to create something organic, contemporary, and could stand the test of time. How has your experience in the music industry, as a songwriter, collaborator, and executive, prepared you to start making music as Mama B? I feel like I have touched every part of the music industry at this point in my career, and every experience has fueled my creative process and desire to make evergreen music for families. I know some people advise me to 'pick a lane,' but honestly, I just loved too many parts of the music industry that I couldn't pick just one. I feel like my artistry makes me a better, more relatable executive, and my experience as an executive has instilled in me the importance of understanding my business as an artist. Where do you find your inspiration for songs like "Puffer Fish?" How did you come across a theme and story like this? I've always loved the song 'Coconut' by Harry Nilsson. The vibe and syncopation of the song make it infectious and relatable for any age group. I wanted to make something with the same energy but specifically for kids. I also had this rap-like lyric idea for 'Puff Puff Puffer Fish' that would make my kids laugh anytime I sang it. Once we found the groove for "Puffer Fish," I knew this lyric idea was perfect for going on top of it. The song wrote itself from there! What was your favorite part about creating and recording "Puffer Fish"? What did you enjoy the most? I enjoyed working with my long-time friends and talented collaborators Marty MARO, Anders Mouridsen, and Connor Marks. All are decorated pop producers/songwriters who had never written in the children's space before, so it was so much fun diving into this genre together. We had so many laughs writing and recording this project together and feel so lucky to have them all be part of it. Could you give readers a hint as to what they should expect from your upcoming album Imaginology this Mother's Day? Modern children's songs ignite the imagination and create a magical experience for children and adults alike! Instagram Facebook
