  • Paige Rutledge’s “The Worst Thing” Is A Country-Pop Carnival That Sparks Emotion and Playfulness

Nothing says starlet status quite like the country-pop carnival that is Paige Rutledge's latest bop, "The Worst Thing." Envision this: twangy guitars strumming stories as if they're whispered secrets from a musical sorcerer. Paige's vocals? It's like she's gently guiding you through a love story, hitting you with the feels in the best way possible. Her vocal range isn't just impressive; she's doing gymnastics with notes in the most effortless way imaginable as she admits listeners on this emotional rollercoaster. Constantly keeping us on our toes, this poignant melody progresses to its colossal percussion moment, as tightly knit drum patterns kick in during the second verse, grooving to the beat of Paige's heart as she dives deep into the emotions. You can't help but begin to wonder, 'Is she reading my mind, or is she just a musical genius?' Now, let's talk about Paige Rutledge – she's not just a country artist; she's a dynamo. Imagine a young Paige discovering country music after a heartfelt moment at her grandfather's funeral. Fast forward, and she's a force gracing the stages of Toronto to Nashville. If energy and vibrancy had a name, it'd be Paige Rutledge. And the hits? Oh, they keep on coming. From the cover of Breakthrough Country on Amazon Music to landing on Amazon Music’s Brand New Music playlist. "The Worst Thing" comes to us as the best thing possible. In Paige Rutledge's musical rollercoaster, this track is that loop-de-loop that makes you scream, 'Again, again!' It's like she's inviting you to a world where feelings dance and twirl, and you're the VIP guest. She's turning heartbreak into a musical playground, and we're all just here for the thrill ride. Welcome to BUZZ, Paige Rutledge! "The Worst Thing" holds a powerful meaning and presence; we're obsessed. Can you please share the creative process behind this country-pop infusion? Thank you for having me!! Absolutely! There’s no question that breakups are complex, but I think there is something to be said about when a breakup happens for reasons that do not make you hate that person. Sometimes, it is a case of the wrong timing or just other factors in life causing two people to break up, and that can make it really hard to move on rather than, say if someone cheated. My co-writers, Lydia Sutherland and Rich Cloke, explored those ideas while writing The Worst Thing. When I brought it to my producer, Matt Koebel, we both knew we wanted to have the scream in your car, music up loud vibe. We approached this song with the mindset of exploring a more modern-pop country sound, learning about some electronic sounds while letting the catchy acoustic guitar riffs stand out. We leaned into the vulnerability in the lyrics, and because of that, I think listeners will all be able to find something they can relate to in this song. How do you aim to create a musical experience that feels like a lively rollercoaster for your listeners? What emotions would you like them to feel when listening to this track? As I kind of touched on above in my answer, when I am feeling sad or going through heartbreak, I turn to singing break-up songs in my car as loud as I can. There is something so therapeutic about that experience, and that is what I wanted to capture for my listeners in this song. This song really takes you on a journey because the lyrics are pretty heartbreaking if you listen to them, but then musically, we have a country-pop breakup ballad, so the goal with that was to make people sing along. It’s almost like you’re going through a breakup as you listen to the song and experience all the emotions! How do you approach expressing vulnerability and emotion in your music, and what techniques do you use to ensure your voice becomes a powerful storyteller in each song? Being vulnerable can be so scary, but when you put 100% of yourself into the song, listeners can relate so much more. To be vulnerable, I think you must fully put yourself out there and experience life to the fullest. Don’t get me wrong, this can lead to a lot of heartbreak (haha) and rejection, but I think those are the moments and experiences that help you learn to be vulnerable and I can then share it in my songwriting. I’ve always been such a fan of country music because of the vulnerability and storytelling, so that is something I always strive to do in my music. Your musical journey was inspired by a poignant moment at your grandfather's funeral. How has that early connection to country music shaped your artistic identity, and do you find that your personal experiences continue to influence the stories you tell through your music? My grandfather introduced me to country music as a kid and even built me a stage at our cottage up in Northern Ontario so I could put on weekly shows for our family and neighbors on the road. He used to love listening to Charley Pride and Johnny Cash, and we would listen to Shania Twain together. My parents also played a lot of country music, so I don’t even remember falling in love with country music. Instead, I have always had it in my life and feel so connected. The experience of losing my grandpa and turning to music has shaped who I am as an artist. I genuinely believe that music is a special thing that can connect everyone, and I consider that with every song I write and record. If I can find a way to connect with even just one person, then I have accomplished something. Music, specifically country music, has been there for me throughout my life, and that is what I hope I can do for my listeners. Your music has been described as vibrant, energetic, and dynamic. How do you envision your sound evolving, and are there specific musical genres or styles you are eager to explore in your upcoming projects? I love a fun country song and have been leaning into that over the past couple of years. Recently, I have really been feeling like digging into a deeper place with my writing and being more vulnerable, translating to a few more ballads, which I also love. I have also been loving diving into country-pop's pop elements and experimenting with those kinds of sounds. It’s fun as an artist to continue evolving and growing your craft as you learn and experiment. Over the past year and a half, we have been establishing a specific sound that, as soon as listeners hear it, would make them say, “That’s a Paige song,” so I am also excited to keep that growing and make more music! • Five.others Mulls Over The Ever-Present Conundrum Of Romance On Qu’est Que C’est

The Toronto native continues to impress with his eclectic and relatable blend of introspection. As an elusive D.I.Y. artist from Toronto, five.others have cultivated a mystique and anticipation that underlines his releases and artistic profile. With his releases often taking meaningful, introspective tones, five.others release entertainment by stimulating both your mind and your senses. We often forget that the answers to the questions we seek are found inside. Five.others releases are a frank and moving reminder to not neglect our inner consciousness, even if it might be challenging at times. Although standout releases like “The Bottom” and “Daybreak” established five.others as a creative force to be reckoned with, he was never content to sit on his laurels. In fact, “Daybreak” and another popular release, “Midnight,” would be heralds for the full-length, similarly outstanding project “FNKTN.” Having shown the ability to capture lightning in a bottle and mold it into cohesive themes, five.others’s future in the industry looks bright, as he’s proven he’s one of the few with a grand artistic vision and the skills to see his vision to fruition. Five.other’s latest release, “Qu’est Que C’est,” is perfect for unwinding after a long day or relaxing before you start it. As the track begins, a soothing guitar eases you into five.others’s accessible, winding soundscape. five.others’s smooth vocals warble and flow, encapsulating you in what feels like the musical version of a warm blanket. As he sings lines like “What would I do to love you?”, there’s an underlying feeling of mystique that also embodies “Qu’est Que C’est,” making for an enchanting listening experience that won’t be quickly forgotten. Qu’est Que C’est is both five.others’s latest release and a continuation of his musical brilliance. As he continues to add to his impressive discography, tap in and stream his new release, “Qu’est Que C’est,” on all majour streaming platforms. Welcome to BUZZ, five.others! We loved "Qu’est Que C’est," we had to know! What was the inspiration behind this release, and what was your favorite part of the creative process and bringing it to life? Thank you for having me BuzzMusic. As a musician, I am part of many different projects with different people and roles. My work five.others is almost entirely independent, from writing to production to mastering, even artwork and videos. Creating music this way has been a compulsion or habit for quite some time. In many ways, my identity and aptitudes are intertwined with creating, and in many more, it keeps me sane or brings me the most joy. As an overthinker, my creative process is often to let go to avoid intellectualizing my work until after the fact. Qu’est que C’est somewhat embodies this ethos, is easily one of my more accessible songs, and is relatively straightforward. A song about appreciation and longing for the little things that make life worthwhile and fulfilling. What inspired you to start making music, and what’s been your favorite music-related memory thus far? I have always been a creative and music enjoyer, but I started playing music when I wasn’t until my mid-teens. With that being said, I’ve spent most of my life since then doing as much as I have been able to in music. From improving and creating to sharing time with friends, many of my positive life experiences have been music-related, so it is difficult to narrow it down to anything too specific. I have been enjoying my time as an open mic host. It allows me to be in service to other musicians, to make connections and build community. With so much of my time as a creator spent alone and within myself, it does act as a counterbalance, allowing me to apply my skills differently with different rewards. It helps me meet new collaborators and friends and provides a guaranteed 2 “gig nights” per week. What goals do you want to achieve through your music? This is a difficult question to answer. I think the best way to put it is that I want to create music that I enjoy. There might be other affluences or influences that would benefit my quality of life, but to enjoy community is probably the best reward, and l one that I try not to take for granted. What qualities do you believe are the most important for a musician to have? This might be another goals oriented question, but more importantly there is no one way to the proverbial top. Some succeed in music because of their technical proficiency, others because of their ability to self-market. Connections are meaningful, of course, but it’s difficult to say that any one quality is necessary. If I had to pick one it might be balance, or resiliency. On some level it is good to be self critical or self aware, but too much is counterproductive. Regardless of connotation, the same might be said for confidence or any quality. I usually advise others to trust themselves and follow their heart, but we often can only give the advice we need. What’s next for five.others? Can we expect to hear even more new music soon, and is there anything you want to say to your fans? It’s usually about 9 months between releases, and I have started working on new music since this latest release. That being said, I don’t have any concrete plans at this point. I’m lucky to be involved in other projects for others. I’ve been debating what is next. Maybe it’s time to release daily TikTok covers. Maybe it’s time to hire a band for an album or live performance. Maybe it’s time to fade further into obscurity. Do I need more of a plan? Or maybe I need less? I’m existential, so maybe the only next step is contemplating what I am trying to do with my life. It’s been about 7 years that I’ve been self-producing music under this moniker, and maybe it’s run its course. Maybe I can’t do anything else, and I’ll continue making too much music. To any fans, I’m thankful to have added some value to your life. I’ve officially released 53 songs under this project, so there is much to listen to if you desire. In all likelihood, there will be more, so like and follow and all that nonsense. Let me know if the music matters to you.

  • Benjamin Race Revives The Golden Era of Pop With His Silky Throwback Hit “Memories”

The renowned UK producer returns to show us that the soul is alive and well. Benjamin Race is a man on a mission. With his silky-smooth touch for rhythm and the musical ability to bring his artistic visions to life, his releases transport you back to the glitz and glamour of the 1980s, where the sound was warm and glossy. Celebrated already in his native UK, with every release, Benjamin Race continues to show why he’s one of the most respected producers in his field. As he keeps the essence of 80’s soul alive, his releases should be on every fan of the soul genre’s radar. From silky electronic percussion to smoky saxophone solos, Race’s releases deliver a sound that resonates with the harmonic subtlety and passion reminiscent of the 80’s hits. Drawing inspiration from ‘80s rhythm master Jimmy Jam and personal guidance, Race infuses every note with rhythm, nostalgia, and groove. On his latest release, “Memories”, Race also recruits R&B songstress Donna Odain, and after the vocal performance she gave, it’s safe to say that it’s a match made in heaven. “Memories” isn't just a song – it’s a vibrant homage to a golden era of pop music, skillfully crafted by Benjamin Race and brought to life by Donna Odain’s stellar vocal performance. Gleaming major sevenths, elastic basslines, shimmering chords, and more form the basis of a beautiful instrumental performance. As Odain captivatingly sings lines like “Memories...They're good for one thing / Memories...Never leave you alone / And I want to keep this feeling strong forever I’m bringing ya home”, you’re immersed in Race’s vibrant soundscape. Of course, a release that treats the 80’s sound so reverentially almost demands a throwback video, and with its saturated colors, Miami-Vice era towers, and digital sun, the video for “Memories” definitely lives up to its name. Benjamin Race’s latest release, “Memories,” is a beautiful and captivating tribute to a golden age of music that might have passed us by but remains in our hearts. Whenever you’re ready, tap in and stream Benjamin Race’s latest release, “Memories,” available now. Welcome to BUZZ, Benjamin Race! We loved "Memories", what a captivating throwback! What was your favorite part of the creative process for this song? Being a music producer and songwriter is no different from any other creative person, as many things always inspire me. Leading up to the creation of this single, I received some one-to-one guidance from the legendary Jimmy Jam, part of the American R&B/ Pop songwriting/ production team 'Jam & Lewis' who in 2022 were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. They have written 31 top-ten hits in the U.K., and 41 in the U.S. Jimmy Jam was part of Flyte Time, which later evolved into the Time. They were joined by Morris Day and were Prince's opening act. Jam & Lewis was later notoriously fired by Prince as they were producing and working with the S.O.S. Band in Atlanta. Because of a snowstorm, they missed their flight from Atlanta to San Antonio. However, one of the tracks they were producing, "Just Be Good to Me," became a hit and sealed the duo's reputation. Jam & Lewis were mentored by the likes of Leon Sylvers III and the legendary Clarence Avant of Tabu Records and later Sussex Records. 'Memories' was inspired by producers Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis and perhaps Janet Jackson's 'Rhythm Nation' Album. The creative part for me was about the listener now in 2024 being whisked away to an era filled with neon lights, Oberheim synthesizers, drum machines, and the feeling that you were listening to the song on Walkman. Donna Odain also absolutely knocked it out of the park! We had to know how or when you knew you wanted her to do the vocals for this piece. Donna is a fantastic vocalist! Donna has worked with Edwin Starr, Martha Reeves, Mary Wilson, Freda Payne & Full Flava. This is also the first partnership with Ricky Hanley, a multi-platinum-selling writer and vocal arranger. Thanks to Ricky, Donna sang on the track as he recommended her (…what a find, hey!?) Ricky has worked with the likes of Take That, The Pet Shop Boys, Cheryl Cole, S Club Juniors, Peter Andre, Mike & The Mechanics, J.L.S., Little Mix, and Korean boy band E.X.O., plus recently working on The Masked Singer TV show. What's been the favorite part of your musical journey thus far, and do you have any advice for budding musicians? In today's musical business climate, success will come by being a 'Hybrid.' What I mean by the shift from professional recording studios to home studios and computers, the move from record label marketing to online social media marketing strategies is that the onus is now on the artist to do everything. So, learning new things and being apt with various skill sets in your toolbox will help you along the way. What would you want it to be if your fans and listeners could take one thing away from your music? Do what makes you happy! What's next for Benjamin Race? Can we expect to hear more new music soon, and is there anything you want to say to your fans? I am constantly pushing myself in terms of learning every day. Whether it is about becoming a better producer/ mixing engineer, songwriter, or musician and improving my musical network, I always try to grow as a creative person. More music? Certainly..but that's for the following interview! Instagram Facebook

Captivating audiences with their infectious energy with every release, the future of this band remains dizzyingly bright, Aiming with their whole souls to make their mark in the world of metal, Seven Cities Dead plays with a passion and intensity not easily found in the scene today. They draw influence from legends like Trivium, Slipknot, and In Flames, creating an alluring sound uniquely theirs. Utilizing dual guitar leads, heavy breakdowns, powerful vocals, empowering lyrics, and more, they’ve held audiences spellbound with every performance. Having shown no signs of complacency either, at this point, it’s no surprise that Seven Cities Dead continues to ascend to even greater artistic heights with each release. The creation of Seven Cities Dead’s latest release, “Take This To My Grave,” is inspiring and heartwarming. Having penned the demo for the song back in 2021, Seven Cities Dead collaborated with As I Lay Dying’s Josh Gilbert for this release. As longtime fans of As I Lay Dying and Gilbert himself, “Take This To My Grave” felt like a full circle moment, and although plans for an animated video fell through, “Take This To My Grave” was too good to go unreleased.
