Strap in because LOOKALIVE has just unleashed a sonic disruption in the form of their latest single, "Scum." This isn't your run-of-the-mill song; it's a gritty, unapologetic explosion of chaos and creativity, leaving a trail of musical destruction in its wake. Picture a mural, a rebellious masterpiece crafted by the band's own hands, giving life to the relentless energy of "Scum." LOOKALIVE isn't merely creating music; they're constructing a visual experience, painting an apocalyptic dreamscape on the canvas of a reclaimed billboard. Over forty hours and gallons of paint were sacrificed to birth this vibrant, chaotic visual feast. "Scum" is not here to play nice. It's a raw exploration of self-deprecation, a lyrical middle finger to conformity. Jeremy Richardson's vocals hit like a sledgehammer, accompanied by guitar riffs as relentless as the band's commitment to the DIY ethos and percussion that implodes upon impact. This sonic maelstrom leaves you exhilarated and disoriented, craving more. The mural, a riot of colors and pop-culture nods, is an extension of LOOKALIVE's irreverent spirit. Watchmen and The Legend of Zelda seamlessly blend into the chaos, creating a visual wonderland that mirrors the band's audacious sonic rebellion. But this record does more than break the mold; it obliterates it. LOOKALIVE is pushing the boundaries of heavy music, and this track is their manifesto. If you're not plugged into the apocalypse party they're throwing, you're missing out on a wild ride through the unexpected. With each note, LOOKALIVE dismantles expectations and rebuilds them into something exhilaratingly unpredictable. Join the revolution, as LOOKALIVE cordially invites you to get in on the chaos. - World Alternative Music Highlights The Best Indie Acts Of The Philippines
When it comes to artistic diversity, World Alternative Music never fails to impress us. Having released several compilation albums, ranging from Canadian artists to hip-hop acts, we're thrilled to share the newest project that gathers the best independent Filipino bands in today's modern music scene. The new Philippines compilation album bursts open with track number one, "IKAW," introducing listeners to the punk rock/alternative stylings of The Encore. Without wasting a single second, the band smashes through the speakers with uplifting yet gritty melodies that pack a ton of emotion with each transition. It's a rich blend of punky, alternative vibes infused with rich harmonies to create a truly impactful, memorable listening experience. The Encore continues this theme with track number two, "Maghihintay Na Lang." This song sinks deeper into emotional alternative with a dash of punk. It's a more introspective and personal song that perfectly contrasts the uplifting feel of the track prior. This tune feels like the sweet ending of a coming-of-age movie, where you realize that everything you need is in front of you all along. It's refreshing, soothing, and loaded with ear-worm melodies. On the album's third track, we meet the post-grunge/alternative 4-piece Fifteen Minutes Later with their tune, "Run." From the jump, this piece serenades the soul with lush acoustic guitars layered over sweet electric strokes, paired with the lead vocalist's rich and velvety vocals. It's a truly emotional song that pulls on every heartstring with relatable scenes of love and loss. Fifteen Minutes Later does an incredible job portraying such hardship through their undeniable musical talent. The band ups the energy and power in track number four, "The Road Less Travelled," kicking off with a feel-good alternative rock introduction that leads into the sweet-sounding verse. This song feels like a breath of fresh air, traveling off the beaten path and realizing where you truly belong. Fifteen Minutes Later perfectly highlights the essence of feeling lost in life and finally finding a place you can call home, be it a place or a person. Next up is the dreamy and diverse stylings of the pop/punk trio Perfect Average with their track "Sweet Angel." From the get-go, we can already tell that Perfect Average is a force to be reckoned with. Their ability to portray a classic pop/punk sound while molding it to be entirely their own is impressive. And the song's energy, emotion, and passion are unmatched. It's a truly impactful, enjoyable song that'll leave you locked in until the very last beat. The passion continues with Perfect Average's second track and the album's sixth, "Wish You'll Be Mine." We can't help but hear similarities to an early blink-182 through the band's emotion-packed vocals and dynamic instrumentals that clutch the soul. Their ability to portray such relatable emotions in this unique way is truly remarkable. If these two songs are anything like the rest of Perfect Average's discography, we wouldn't expect anything less than greatness for their future. Sending us into an eclectic alternative daydream is singer-songwriter and indie musician Fir Street with his hit, "Tinatangi," opening with a refreshing sonic sweet escape with lush keys, tender electric guitar melodies, and warm percussion to heat up the background. His vocals are sonically delicious and gentle, serenading the soul with each melody. It's a truly stunning, dynamic song that perfectly showcases Fir Street's creative talent. Peeping through the "Telescope" on track number eight, Fir Street dives into an even dreamier, spacious, sci-fi-esque sound straight from the future. His unique electronic sound is a staple in his discography, and this song is a prime example of Fir Street's passion for diverse electronic production. The female vocalist beautifully serenades us while dancing over Fir Street's stunning sounds, closing the song on a beautiful, dreamy note. Here's another independent artist that's soon to be on your radar. Making his way to our speakers in track number nine, "Watawat," is JyEL Tagbo, showcasing his solo musical prowess with ease. With compact guitar riffs and his soothing, raspy vocals, JyEL Tagbo brings listeners deep into his unique creative stylings. It's a rich alternative rock song, sort of reminiscent of the Foo Fighters, and incredibly memorable, playing in your mind for hours on end. Before we know it, JyEL Tagbo turns up the heat and intensity in track number ten, "Pakisara Ang Kabaong Ko." He kicks off the tune with heavy, tightly wound rock instrumentals that ooze in anticipation for the emotion-packed hook. With added energy and passion, JyEL Tagbo delivers an incredibly raw performance that demands our attention from top to bottom. In other words, he makes it easy to understand why he's such a force in the Philippines indie music scene. Switching things up is the 2-piece duo A Band On All Hope with their track, "Artificial Intelligence." While the song kicks off with a tight and exciting alternative rock atmosphere, it quickly expands in energy and passion on the hook. The vocalist brings to light a topic that's quickly gaining relevance in today's society: artificial intelligence and its ability to make us feel inhuman. Yet, the band uses it in a different context, one that's truly thought-provoking and stimulating. Channeling their inner electronic influences on track number twelve is A Band On All Hope with "Bumuo Tayo." While the song opens on more of a rock-oriented note, the band quickly transitions into a sparkling and uplifting electronic atmosphere, reminiscent of 8-bit sounds and arcade games. It's an exciting and energetic track that perfectly showcases the band's artistic versatility, spanning from alternative rock to dreamy electronic and everything in between. Here's a switch we didn't know we needed. The folk-to-funk 4-piece Kiss Puppy brings us their best in the album's thirteenth track, "Holy Girl." It instantly grabs our attention with sultry, seductive vibes that ooze sex appeal. It's a rhythmic, groovy, funk-infused tune that leaves chills running up the spine, thanks to the sweet vocals, thumping bass licks, and undeniable groove that locks in our attention until the very last beat. Its heavy rock transitions take the song to a whole new, stimulating level. If you're looking to heal your wounds through music, take a listen to the album's fourteenth track, "Idolo" by the 5-piece band Playground. The band is on a mission to provide inspiration and healing to listeners, and this song is no exception. With meaningful lyrics, chilling alternative rock instrumentals, and punchy transitions brimming with energy, Playground provides everything we need to lock in, let loose, and dance the night away. It's a dynamic, cheerful tune that'll keep a smile on your face. Playground slows things down a bit in track number fifteen, "Hangang Kailan." Opening with tender acoustic guitar melodies layered over more acoustic picking. We gradually lean into the lush verse with stunning vocals and soft background pads for added emotion. This beautiful song hits in all the right places, soothing the mind, body, and soul with relatable emotion, beautiful instrumentals, and vocals that'll send chills throughout the body. We highly recommend this track for any listener in search of a relatable, expressive song. It doesn't get much better than a diverse album featuring a slew of talented artists. - Daniel Angelus Opens Up About His Latest Release, “Myth Calling”
Welcome to BUZZ, Daniel Angelus! We loved "Myth Calling," and we wanted to ask! What inspired this release, and what story were you trying to tell? The story behind Myth Calling was the story behind the album the song is from. Seven Love Songs, my new album, will be released on April 16th, 2024, framed as a 1980s experience of synth, pop, and stories. It pays tribute to my childhood as well as my influences. The stories on this album are centered around the difficulties, trials, and experiences you can have in a marriage that eventually ends. It is my most vulnerable songwriting and is about a long-term marriage I experienced. The record is written from multiple vulnerable perspectives, and Myth Calling is a song about the rumors and rumors of rumors that can surround you when you first meet your new love and how your own experiences can blind you into seeing a new potential love as your everything. Nothing else matters for some time before reality and life set in. The song frames love as a myth and its main protagonist as a god-like creation. "She's all dressed in white and walks on water, to me." What was your favorite part of the creative process for this release? For this release and the other six tracks on the upcoming album, I decided to take my time and work several years on my songwriting. I also wanted to step away from the sound I had created previously, a reverb-heavy mesh of melodramatic experiences, and create something more melodic and tighter. A sound that was catchy and would make people tap their feet. I wanted to do that while writing about vulnerable experiences and subjects, something I have always done. I worked with a new handpicked production team in Italy to help create the sound using demos. It has been a tremendous experience and allowed me to mature my songwriting in many ways. My favorite part of the creative process was putting my vocals at the center of melodies and creating memorable hooks. I am proud of how the record sounds and how much fun I had in the studio creating the vocals. What does music mean to you, and what do you think is the most essential feature for an artist to have? I began music in 2007 as a form of therapy. I have stacks and stacks of demos of a young Daniel bleeding his heart out and coping with terrible things happening to him. As an adult and 37 years old, by the time the new album was released, music was not just a form of therapy; it was an artistic escape and a wonderful way to express myself to the world. I am always humbled that people listen to my songs and write to me online. It shows that not only does this music mean a lot to me, but it also means a lot to other individuals worldwide. It brings us together in our traumas, joys, and vulnerabilities. I am an advocate for that. An artist needs to be genuine and express their creativity with no regrets. Learn and grow in what you do, but never let go of that genuine part of you that you instill in your work. Drive yourself with purpose. What do you want listeners to feel when they hear your releases? That's just it. I want people to feel. A majority of people are afraid to feel. It's a challenging thing to experience. We often don't embrace the harsh realities. So, I like to write music that gives you space to feel whatever you need to—a space to express yourself if you find yourself in my lyrics, chords, and expressions. Please, feel with me. What's next for Daniel Angelus? Can we expect to hear more new music soon, and is there anything you'd like to say to your fans? Myth Calling is out now, and it is one of the tracks on SEVEN LOVE SONGS, releasing April 16th, 2024. It's a synth indie pop record that goes deeper than expected. I may look at coming out of my space and touring again in the next few years, but I am currently working on new music and seeing how that flows and feels. Challenging myself with each release has become a healthy and productive obsession. I also did the soundtrack to Mr. Earth, an excellent sci-fi movie on Amazon Prime Video and other platforms. I would appreciate people checking out the movie and listening to the soundtrack on your favorite service. Thank you to my music fans for staying with me all these years. To the new fans, a warm welcome. Jump on board and embrace the journey with me. I have been able to create the music career I have so far because of my listeners, so thank you for keeping it going. We make a great team! Instagram Facebook
- OpenSoul’s Festive Triumph Happens Within “Blue Christmas”
Hailing from Negril, Jamaica, OpenSoul, the musical sensation, is a true rarity in an industry often saturated with auto-tune and edgy personalities. Blessed with celestial vocals, infectious charm, and an innate gift for songwriting, OpenSoul stands out as an artist and a genuinely good soul. If gratitude had a sound, it would undoubtedly echo the harmonious vibes of OpenSoul. OpenSoul epitomizes the essence of the moment, and this Christmas, he graces us with a new classic, "Blue Christmas," boldly claiming the title from the legendary Elvis. A nonchalantly masterful songwriter, OpenSoul expertly navigates between holiday optimism and lyrical melancholy, delivering falsetto riffs that effortlessly immerse listeners in the festive spirit. Paired with Steven Bernard's equally masterful music video, "Blue Christmas" transforms into a visual feast, capturing the heart of the season. Amidst palm trees and twinkling lights, OpenSoul invites us to his homeland for a seasonal celebration. Bernard's deliberate camerawork turns a simple concept into an instant classic, creating an experience that fans will cherish for years. Before ascending in his music career, OpenSoul left an indelible mark on the acclaimed Netflix hit "Top Boys." Collaborating with the equally talented Andon, his tropical-infused R&B melodies serenaded audiences across Jamaican resorts. With a devoted following of over 20k on Instagram, OpenSoul stands on the precipice of a breakthrough, tantalizing fans with a scintillating collection of tracks and the promise of a debut album early next year. "Blue Christmas" transcends the typical holiday tune, an open expression of heartbreak and yearning, delivered through OpenSoul's brilliant and opulent vocals. The harmonious backing vocals add a glistening touch of harmony, and the infectious beat is a rhythmic delight. With profound vocal runs and a melodic masterpiece that speaks directly to the soul, OpenSoul's "Blue Christmas" is a must-have addition to your holiday playlist. This seasonal sensation begs for repeated enjoyment. "Blue Christmas" has graced us just in time for the holiday season. Can you please share a specific moment or experience that ignited the creation of this record? Blue Christmas came about by a heartbreak I had close to a Christmas one year, but it got amplified when I witnessed a stranger go through a similar situation. When my manager sent me this Christmas beat, I pulled from these experiences and decided to say my piece and ask the spirit of Christmas to at least flip the script of this Blue Christmas I or anyone else had ever experienced. Please walk us through the creative process when crafting this gem with Steven Bernard. Do you have any rituals or specific environments that enhance your songwriting and production, and did these come into collaboration when bringing "Blue Christmas" to life? Working with Steven, the director, for my videos is always a great time. The video for Blue Christmas was done at the last minute because the song was written and recorded close to Christmas. My manager asked him to develop a quick concept because we wanted to release the song and video before Christmas Day, even though we were already in the season. He came up with this simple yet very beautiful concept of me performing the song with a band in the background outdoors decorated with Christmas lights and other elements. It was simple yet magical at the same time. When it comes to songwriting, there are two places my mind is clear: in the bathroom or by the beach alone. There are no distractions, and my mind is just free. Before production, I need a drink, lol. This process stays true to all my songs. This track offers a fresh take on a classic theme. How different is creating a holiday song from the music you typically create? How did you approach infusing your style into a well-known seasonal concept? Blue Christmas was different from my other songs. First off, I'm from the Caribbean. In most of the internationally known Christmas songs, there are things that I can't strictly relate to, like the snow, the reindeer, the chimney, etc. Hence, I had to carefully construct my lyrics to be internationally acceptable and accurate to what I'd always known about Christmas growing up. I'm proud of what I was able to formulate. Your music is often described as a fusion of genres. How do your Jamaican roots and diverse musical influences contribute to the unique sound of OpenSoul? I've always been a lover of music. I view myself as an R&B artist with the potential to manipulate other genre styles. I've explored and experienced different genres by listening to the radio and through various choirs I was in growing up. My Jamaican roots also have a part to play in my sound. My sound is not the typical R&B voice, but it's a twist, and I am willing to work on that for me and my soulmates. Your Instagram following has grown significantly. How do you cultivate a sense of community with your fans, and how does their feedback and engagement influence your creative process? Yes, my following is increasing. My soulmates are always showing support when it comes to my music. I'll have people DMing me to share how they feel about my music, and quite frankly, I love it. I sometimes would reach out to check on them. It is imperative to make your fans feel seen and heard instead of ignoring their messages or comments. Even though an artist may write or do the music themselves, once you have supporters, it's no longer just you. There have to be ways to build that relationship with them because, truth be told, if you have no supporters, your music would've never been heard. Instagram Facebook
- Dive Into A Heartfelt Musical Tribute With Adel Nasser's "See You Again"
Adel Nasser, a nurse with a heart as big as his talent, has unleashed a powerful and heartfelt ballad in his latest single, "See You Again." Despite his professional life in healthcare, Adel's prowess as a singer-songwriter is impossible to ignore, and this new track is a testament to the emotional depth he brings to his music. The story behind "See You Again" is as poignant as the melody. In the face of an immense loss – the sudden passing of his brother-in-law in a motorcycle accident – Adel found solace in music. The song serves as a final farewell, a wistful expression of love, and a hopeful wish for a reunion in the future. It's not just a song; it's a deeply personal conversation with a loved one who left too soon. The writing process, born from Adel's visit to his brother-in-law's house, is a raw and authentic journey into grief. As he sat pen in hand at his brother-in-law's desk, Adel poured out his thoughts, capturing what he would say if given the chance. Adel shares a universal message with his listeners: the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing those around us. "See You Again" becomes a musical balm for those who've experienced similar losses, offering solace and a channel for processing emotions—Adel's sincere advice to not take loved ones for granted rings through the heartfelt lyrics. Produced by Chuck Alkazian at Pearl Sound Studios, the track is a sonic masterpiece, perfectly complementing the raw emotion in Adel's voice. The music tugs at heartstrings, immersing the listener in a vulnerable moment where sorrow, beauty, and acceptance intertwine. In the grand narrative of Adel Nasser's musical journey, "See You Again" is a standout chapter – a testament to his ability to transform personal pain into a universal melody. The track showcases Adel's vocal prowess and serves as a beacon of hope for those navigating their own journey through grief. As Adel plans to continue writing music, it's clear that this heartfelt storyteller is just getting started, promising more tales that resonate with the soul. Get ready to be moved because Adel Nasser has a story to tell, and "See You Again" is just the beginning. Thank you for sharing such a vulnerable piece of yourself in "See You Again." With such a deeply personal and emotional tribute to your brother-in-law, can you please share more about translating such a profound and private experience into a song? I honestly didn't know how to process my emotions at the time. I was emotionally in a very dark place; the house was eerily quiet. There was such a feeling of emptiness throughout the whole house, but walking by his room and seeing it left the way it was left, such a feeling of sadness and hopelessness if that makes sense. I expected him to walk through the door at any second but then realized that he would never return home. It was a feeling unlike anything I have ever experienced. I have felt grief and loss in the past, but this was far more profound. I felt stuck like I didn't even know how to feel. I guess I was still in shock. I then stared around his room and noticed a pen and paper on his desk. That's when I started writing; I sat at his desk and wrote this song. I never intended to do so, but within 30 minutes, I noticed that I had something that could be good. I showed my family the first verse and chorus, and I knew I had something special from their reactions. How did you navigate the fine line between personal grief and creating music that resonates with a broader audience? It was difficult. I wanted to put my emotions onto paper, but I also wanted something people could connect to and enjoy. But with how clouded my thoughts were then, I had to be careful and ensure that my writing was comprehensible and musically attractive. Luckily, I could do that one, too, and the response has been very positive so far. "See You Again" began at your brother-in-law's house. Can you elaborate on how the physical space influenced the creative process, and did being in that environment add a unique layer to the emotional depth of the song? Being back in his room felt so eerie to me then. It felt so empty. I sat with him in that room only a few days prior, and everything was normal. Writing the song in his room added another layer of emotion to the song, especially with how the room was left just how he left it. It felt like he was still there with me. Your advice to not take loved ones for granted is a powerful message in "See You Again." How do you hope this song impacts listeners who may be going through their own experiences of loss, and what role do you believe music plays in helping people process and navigate their emotions? Music is a universal language. It crosses all cultural, political, and religious barriers. No matter who you are, music is designed as a tool of human expression. So, for those who listen to my song, it gives them comfort in not being alone in their experiences. That is what music has always been for me: a way to connect with and process my emotions. I hope that my music connects with my listeners in the same way. The review mentions your plans to continue writing music and that you have a story to tell. How do you envision your musical journey unfolding, and are there specific themes or messages you are eager to explore in your upcoming projects? I plan to continue to write music that connects with my audience. I would love to connect with other musicians as well. I love performing, and I do not plan to stop soon. I am working on a few new projects, although I am still determining exactly when those will be released. My listeners can expect to hear more about my life experiences and important things to me. I want to show my audience that I am more than just the emotion that brought success to "See You Again." Instead, I am a family man and a relentlessly hard worker; most people can relate to that. I hope to reach a point where I can inspire musicians of my generation and those who come after me. Instagram Facebook
- The Last Goodbye Makes Their Emotional Return With “Damn These Walls”
The seasoned veterans haven’t missed a single step. In a triumphant return to the airwaves, veteran pop-rock ensemble The Last Goodnight dropped their latest original track, “Damn These Walls” on December 1. Following a meteoric rise and widespread success (with over 58 million Spotify streams from their acclaimed album ‘Poison Kiss’ alone), the excitement around this release has been palpable. Although a decade and a half has passed since their last official release, with “Damn These Walls” The Last Goodbye has proved that not only have they not lost a step; they’ve come back than ever. Even when they embarked on their hiatus, lead singer Kurtis John knew in his heart that the continuation of The Last Goodnight was in the cards. “It’s been a long time coming,” John says, and with “Damn These Walls” it’s easy to see why. This talented group still has things to say, and if “Damn These Walls” is any indication we’re in for a lot of good new music. As these veterans of the industry continue to shine brighter and brighter, their evolution is quite something to see, especially when they’ve managed to keep the authentic charm that captivated audiences in the first place. “Damn These Walls” definitely feels like a magical, full-circle moment. Starting with a tender and enchanting piano-based intro, “Damn These Walls” stirs up emotion constantly and feels like a second coming of age of sorts. The instrumental performance feels reflective and meaningful, perfectly matching John’s impassioned vocals. Lyrics like “Damn these walls, damn this pain / Damn the monster / that keeps me on a chain” cut straight to the heart, and as The Last Goodnight confront themselves to break the cycle of past mistakes and hardships, you can’t help but root for them. “Damn These Walls” is a testament to the continued brilliance of music veterans The Last Goodnight. As they continue to fly high, tap in and stream their new release “Damn These Walls,” out now on all major streaming platforms. Instagram
