- Lily Brooks O’Briant Shares The Secrets Behind “Too Good To Be True”
Life with Lily seems occupied, but it is exhilarating that being an actress and singer-songwriter allows her to blend, shape, and craft exceptionally well. Lily Brooks comes from pop influence with a smidge of country and R&B, which she formulates so well, which brings us to her well-rounded EP "Too Good To Be True." Lily shares many scenarios while lifting the instrumental so well with her divine vocals, swaying with melodies back and forth. We sat down with Lily Brooks O'Briant and asked her about her upcoming EP "Too Good To Be True." Congratulations on your EP release, 'Too Good To Be True.' What has made this such a notable release for you? This is my debut EP, so it's a dream come true for me! I only started writing music about nine months ago, and these songs are a collection of the different experiences going through the emotional rollercoaster that was my first breakup and then the other side of healing and moving forward and then finding something beautiful but also recognizing how I was scared to get hurt again. Writing music helps me turn the pain and heartache into something beautiful that I can look back on and be proud of instead of the heartbreak and only remembering the bad parts. Many great projects have come from unique moments and experiences. What were some of the moments that inspired this EP for you? There were so many moments and experiences that I took inspiration from. One of the biggest inspirations was that moment in my previous relationship when I realized things were over. Still, so many other moments of inspiration would hit during time in the recording studio. Sometimes, those moments of realization and understanding would come after talking to my songwriting partner and other musicians about my relationship and life! What message would you like people to take away from 'Too Good To Be True?' Even through the pain and heartbreak, something better and happier is on the other side of those emotions. No matter how heartbroken you feel, know that things will improve, and you will move forward to find your happiness again. 'Too Good To Be True' is a wonderfully curated art piece. Were there any collaborators you'd like to mention that had a part in it? I am so grateful to have worked with so many incredibly talented people on this EP - My excellent songwriting partner Ethan X Aragon Stephon Riley helped me write 'Crash' and 'Better Off Alone,' and many other incredibly talented artists! What's next for you? I am attending a music intensive in Santa Monica this year, where I will be learning from Grammy-winning mentors and writing and recording lots of music! I am performing at the Troubadour in LA on August 29th & you can expect another EP soon. I have already written several songs for the next EP or album because life happened and gave me a lot of material. Just a little teaser - one of the singles in the next EP/album is 'Romeo & Juliet.' Expect more love and heartbreak. You can also catch me as Lucy Romalotti on CBS's "The Young and The Restless!" Instagram Facebook
- Transport Into Still They Ride Team’s Cover Of “Still They Ride”
Still They Ride Team has initiated a ride we should all participate in. This incredible and multi-talented band has created a meaningful cover of Journey's original "Still They Ride." This versatile group has committed to raising awareness of Parkinson's disease. More specifically, they've dedicated this cover to benefit The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research - this cover was inspired by the leads' from Still They Ride, Greg Armstrong's dear friend Dave Mikulskis. Greg, the band & Dave have created this cover to empower other individuals going through a challenging situation or moment due to this disease. From its origin, this song outlines a journey of constantly pushing forward, being strong, and hustling, even through pain. This made the most sense for Greg & Dave; they highlighted that it is "metaphorically perfect" to have this song as a cover since the lyrics narrate a constant sense of movement that resonates with some of the characteristics of Parkinson's disease. They want everyone, us and everyone, to continue looking at the positive side of all this. Our life journey must be determined by more than the situations that come to us against our will. The melody accompanying those deep and melodic lyrics is a nostalgic set of chords that will flood you with vision and passion to fight for whatever you think is worth fighting for. The slow, concentrated, yet wistful guitar sounds in the back and the R&R vibes make this cover much more sense. We're excited for you to listen to the excellent cover of "Still They Ride" and support some essential benefits. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Still They Ride Team. What was the main goal behind choosing "Still They Ride" as the song to cover? Multiple goals. The song is about hope, resilience, perseverance, and overcoming obstacles. The title is also relevant to Michael J. Fox's latest biographical movie, "STILL". The goal was to bring back the 42-year-old song and give it new life in 2023 with another "take" and view on the incredibly well-written song and melody. From your perspective, what feeling empowered the video/cover for "Still They Ride"?" The Michael J. Fox movie embedded in most of our minds with the "Back To The Future" movie series made for a great backdrop to the lyric video and the MJF Foundation. How does it feel to be covering such an iconic artist? Deciding to cover Steve Perry's vocals is not easy, but Dave Mikulskis has the range and power to do so, and we wanted to cover a song that wasn't "over-covered," like Don't Stop Believin', etc. Still, They Ride is rarely covered and a favorite among many who owned that Escape album, although undoubtedly not one of its biggest hits. What has been the biggest challenge benefiting the research? Have you faced any or not? Getting the word out is critical. The Michael J. Fox Foundation is a BIG part of this. They are also getting the word out about the track via their promotions emails and social media, which is HUGE for us, and we welcome their hand in helping raise funds for Parkinson's Research, which the singer on our track has had since the age of 51. If you had to describe this song in one word, which one would it be? DETERMINATION
- Cenzina Is Sky High In Her New Single “Airplane Mode”
We adore when artists continue to push the genre boundaries instilled into music from the dawn of time. How can you get someone to fit in a box when they're much more than a mold to conform to? Vancouver artist Cenzina defies these genres, and her hybrid approach to the style and influence she embodies makes her stand out. From alternative and classic rock to hip-hop and R&B, the sound she emanates is a force to be reckoned with as she graciously shares her music acoustically and with her band, members of The Project Vancity. Here's to the live performances that will leave you feeling intimately connected to an artist and emotionally fueled, precisely what we know a Cenzina performance to manifest. Her most recent single, "Airplane Mode," is a diamond that shines brightly on releases that indie artists are popping out. Pure passion and divine energy have this record wrapped in warmth and poignancy - and she does it all effortlessly. Cenzina masters her craft in a way that keeps us on our toes as she is ever-evolving through this journey of life and on her music career. The honeyed croons that she divulges have her pairing a bright yet smokey vocal to emphasize the poetic storytelling she pulls from the depths of her soul. You can find Cenzina casting powerful key progressions, all while she projects the delicate and picturesque lyrical motifs she's crafted ever so carefully. Accompanied by her band - this live-off-the-floor rendition is breathtaking and comforting. Listen to "Airplane Mode" now on your favorite streaming platform. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Cenzina! We love your latest single, “Airplane Mode,” and the emotion it strikes while listening to it. Could you share a specific moment or real-life experience that directly influenced the song? Thank you so much for taking the time to listen and for your kind words. I’m glad you enjoyed this piece of music! This song was influenced when I felt bombarded by daily “have to’s” and “to do’s.” On and off public transit, I think constantly plugged into my phone and my work and tuned out of things that nourish my soul. It was inspired by a genuine need to turn my phone on airplane mode, disconnect and get away from the every day, and take some time to reconnect with nature and myself. With a song so personal and performed with the utmost passion, what do you hope your listeners will take away from experiencing this song? I hope listeners feel that when life feels overwhelming, it’s probably because it is. Our generation has A LOT going on; rates of anxiety are at an all-time high, and it’s no mystery that the frenetic pace of life is a contributing factor to that. I hope listeners walk away feeling less alone and are reminded that taking a break is self-care! It’s not selfish. Also, it’s okay if you don’t want to be the life of the party or if showing up to everything drains your social battery. Sometimes, the JOMO (joy of missing out) is real and can do wonders for your nervous system, especially if you spend some time in nature. I hope the song may also provide a slight reprieve when listeners need one. Let’s talk about how your band recorded this in one take. What was the energy like on set during and after this performance? This is a great question! As this single was part of an ongoing live set, we went straight into another song after it. As this one is one of the most complex compositions, the band and I mainly felt joy and relief that we made it through with grace and flow. It felt like a great exhale. Were there any unique challenges or breakthrough moments you encountered while creating this song? This song was challenging to learn to perform, with its many changing chord progressions compiled with the vocal melody. It took lots of practice to get my hands to know where to go on autopilot so my voice could be the center of my focus. The band always has great fun and will take on any challenge, and they did a great job accompanying me on this one. What does “Airplane Mode” make you feel? “Airplane Mode” makes me feel like I just took a deep breath and am on an airplane headed somewhere dreamy. It makes me feel like I’m soaking in the luxury of rest and restoration. Instagram Facebook
- Caprice Soleil Continues To Shine Brighter Than Ever On His New Album, 'Saturn Seven'
This talented MC just seems to get better and better. Fresh off the release of his new album 'Saturn Seven,' Caprice Soleil continues to march to the beat of his own drum while continuing to establish his vibrant legacy in the music industry. Fiercely dedicated to his craft, Soleil’s contemporary blend of modern melodies and new-age trap has allowed him to carve out a niche in a highly competitive scene, speaking to his vision and artistic ability. Just as likely to captivate with catchy choruses as with his crisp, elite-level production skills, Soleil takes pride in his hands-on approach to his music, creating everything “in-house.” Sometimes, the brightest futures can only be created when we find ways to incorporate the past. This delicate balancing act is almost always difficult, but Soleil has honed this skill to perfection. Although he deeply appreciates the genre’s origins, his approach remains rooted in the contemporary. His creations are always painstakingly (and lovingly) crafted to perfection, and his latest album, 'Saturn Seven' serves as the latest proof of his genius. Intricate melodies, booming basslines, and more all find a home in Soleil’s sprawling musical universe, and as he continues to evolve, he’s one to watch for the future. For the uninitiated, “Neptune” and “Trace,” two of Soleil’s latest releases, serve as enticing tastes of the goodness on 'Saturn Seven' while also showing off Soleil’s versatility. “Neptune” is a high-energy, stellar introduction to dizzying heights Soleil can reach, rapping at breakneck speed over atmospheric beats reminiscent of Travis Scott and Trippie Redd. Similarly, the instrumental for “Trace” keeps your head in the clouds, but Soleil takes a more introspective lyrical approach, showcasing his ability to expertly manipulate every facet of his music to create different yet equally interesting outcomes. If he keeps his current momentum up, the rap game might have a new star in the making. Caprice Soleil’s distinct “in the house” approach has seen him quickly build a strong buzz for himself off the strength of his artistic talent alone. Whenever you’re ready, tap in and stream Soleil’s new releases, “Neptune” and “Trace”, and also check his album 'Saturn Seven' available now on all majour streaming platforms. Instagram
- Chris Koehn Takes Us Back To Simpler Times On His New Release, “Ballad of Happiness”
The eclectic musician returns with more music for the soul on this new release. For as long as music has existed, it’s possessed the capacity to touch the soul. For as long as mankind has made music, we’ve used it as a medium through which powerful emotions are shared, whether through words, rhythm, or both. With his frank and introspective lyrical style and atmospheric vocals, dynamic architect, producer, and singer/songwriter Chris Koehn incorporates this belief in the power of music into every release he graces. A firm believer in the healing powers of music, this talented artist has made it his mission to touch the hearts of as many listeners as possible. Sometimes, special people can somehow make something positive out of tragedies in life. After experiencing the death of his brother, Koehn turned to music, using it as an introspective grieving process and sharing his music with the hopes that it could help others. His music is practical and rooted in the present, acknowledging that nothing is permanent and death can come at any time. Perhaps most importantly, Koehn’s music reminds us to enjoy what we have today. As he says, “The freer from our attachments we are, the happier our life will be.” Koehn describes his latest work, “Ballad of Happiness,” as “A journey into our inner self, into nature.” It’s a distinct and unique release, even if you take the fact that the song has no lyrics out of the equation. A gentle, friendly guitar greets you at the song’s beginning and eases you into the rest of a warm, comforting instrumental performance that takes you back to simpler times. Although there are no lyrics, that doesn’t mean Koehn is silent; plain “La, la, las” are sung in time with unabashed joy that evokes images of the unbridled happiness and innocence we sang with as kids. “Ballad of Happiness” is a release that, in many ways, feels reverential to this feeling, and joy seems sacred. Chris Koehn’s “Ballad of Happiness” is a beautiful and powerful release that captures the essence of the bliss we felt singing without a care in the world as kids. Whenever you’re ready for the music to melt your worries, tap in and stream Chris Koehn’s new release, “Ballad of Happiness.” Welcome to BuzzMusic, Chris Koehn! We loved "Ballad of Happiness". What a peaceful yet powerful release! What was the inspiration behind this release? What did you see when you first envisioned it? Thanks, "Ballad of Happiness" is a journey into our inner self and nature. To remember how we sang as kids. The song has no lyrics, specific meaning, or message other than the pure joy of singing La-la-las. A dialog between vocal melodies and harmonies occurs while different acoustic strings, from guitars, slides, ukulele, banjo & mandolin, play together as if we were playing in nature. A tribute to early 70's country Western Soundtracks such as Dylan's Pat Garret & Billy The Kid movie score & Wigwam song. So, you've made it your mission to make music that helps people heal. How did that become one of your main goals for music, and what does it mean to be able to make music that allows people today? Well, the more I think about it, my brother's death 20 years ago was his gift for me to connect with music to help heal myself and others. So, since then, it has been a grieving healing journey to share & heal collectively. In the beginning, I felt good while listening to my music while recovering, and while sharing it with close friends, I saw its healing power. That's when I realized I needed to help other people heal. In the end, death is the only thing for sure we have in life, so why not heal and embrace it as Zen monks do? What do you believe is the most essential quality for a musician to have? Sensibility, originality & intention. Nowadays, musicians tend to follow trends for quicker success rather than question a more profound reason why we are making music. What would you want it to be if your listeners could take one thing away from your music? To practice death daily, live fully present, and enjoy every second. What's next for Chris Koehn? Can we expect to hear more new music soon, and is there anything you want to say to your fans? On día de Muertos / Day of the Death, I'll release my new EP, "When Death is Good News." I'm probably doing intimate shows around those dates in LA, Toronto & Mexico City. Yes, to thank them for all their support; it feels nice to see my music resonate with people every day. - Vibing With Amanda Holley’s Visual Magic In “Ride Or Die”
Dive into the sultry universe of Amanda Holley's latest R&B/pop masterpiece, "Ride Or Die," and prepare to be swept away in a wave of emotions that hits harder than a summer heatwave. "Ride Or Die" isn't just a song; it's a sonic journey you and your ride-or-die are about to embark on. With sonic and visual components that go hand-in-hand, the cohesive creativity that unfolds is breathtaking and utterly reminiscent of what Amanda Holley brings. Picture this: the music video opens with Amanda in a mesmerizing blue and black moto jacket, her voice dripping with raw emotion as she belts the heart-wrenching lyrics. Panning through memories of her and her ride-or-die, Amanda Holley, in scenic landscapes that cast a montage, the camera cuts to shots of her in a sleek car, cruising through the town, and then in the comfort of her confinement driven by the universe doing what she loves by the piano. And just when you thought it couldn't get any more hypnotic, the beat drops, and a stunningly choreographed dance number takes center stage, amplifying the song's intensity tenfold. But let's talk about Amanda herself – a force of nature, a vocal powerhouse that channels Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey vibes. The visuals are a compelling mix of her passionate performance and scenes of her in that stylish car, each frame oozing charisma and attitude that'll have you hooked from start to finish. "Ride Or Die" isn't just any song; it's an anthem of unconditional love, a call to be there for the ones who matter most, even amid chaos. With a 5-octave range that could move mountains, Amanda's vocals soar effortlessly over a retro-infused beat courtesy of OHKAY LAWS. This song isn't just catchy; it's a melodic potion bound to get stuck in your head for days. So, buckle up because "Ride Or Die" isn't just a song you listen to; it's an experience you immerse yourself in. The music video embodies Amanda Holley's magnetic energy, an enchanting tale of love, passion, and unbreakable bonds. As the sun sets on summer, let this song be the soundtrack to your journey, your late-night escapades, and your ride-or-die kind of love. "Ride Or Die" is a mesmerizing journey that combines soulful melodies with a striking visual narrative in the music video. Can you tell us the inspiration behind the video's concept and how it aligns with the song's message? "RIDE OR DIE" took so much of my soul as a performer and songwriter. Because of this, I had to let the music guide me to the concept for this video! When I sing and write, I see music in pictures - so a lot of what you see on screen is what I'm feeling and visualizing when I was in the vocal booth. The surrender to true love and art is beautiful, surreal, exciting, gritty, and even a little dangerous - especially when we have been through so much. Risking it all and choosing to believe in genuine love and be "Ride Or Die" for that person - especially when the odds have been stacked against us - requires us to leave a painful past behind, dare to go to uncharted territory, and hop in that fast car with the one you choose to ride with through "all the curves and ups and downs." I wanted our locations, cars/vehicles, and the story to reflect that journey - from the heartbreak to the daydream and, ultimately, our surrender. We started literally "off-grid" in the mountains of Southern Cali after a record-breaking snowfall - even getting those shots was a little dangerous! Then, we shot the rooftop burner phone scene and the scene with the dancers. We finally end up on the foggy Pacific Coast Highway, leaving the burner phone behind and cruising together into our future in love and life. We're obsessed with the choreographed dance number in the music video. How did the idea for incorporating dance into the video come about, and what emotions were you hoping to convey through the choreography? So much about "Ride Or Die" is urban and rhythmic - just like my life. I wanted to ensure we carried that rhythm throughout the story via the choreography! Jesse Le and I talked about collaborating, and it felt right to have the guys be a part of this video! I also wanted a male perspective to the visuals - that would help convey the song's emotions in another voice. Jesse took the choreo to another level when he integrated the lyrics into the movements for himself, Brian, and Patrick. I'm so thankful - they killed it for me! "Ride Or Die" has garnered significant attention, with features on iHeartRadio, The Hype Magazine, and various Spotify playlists. How does it feel to see your song resonate with such a wide audience, and what do you think sets it apart from other tracks in your discography? I'm excited to see "Ride or Die" take off and reach so many souls! This modern love story is not just mine; it's universal. Every time the record gets spun on an iHeart Station, featured in another magazine, or added to another extensive playlist, it makes my heart flutter because, for this song, I was singing my heart out in the booth - on the verge of tears. My songs are like my babies - every piece has a life of its own, and each record changes me somehow when I create and perform it. This record bridges the gap from my roots as a soul singer to the commercial and the street. Seeing how many believers in love there are and how much this moment resonates with those craving something truly beautiful. As we know, collaboration is key in creating hits such as "Ride Or Die." Can you walk us through the creative process of co-writing the song with producers like OHKAY LAWS and Chico Bennett? How did these collaborations enhance the final product? It was amazing how this record evolved from the first time Korey (OhKayLaws) blessed me with the track to when I crafted new lyrics and melodies with Chico Bennett! Chico is also an incredible producer and vocal producer and wanted us to all dig deep with the performance! He demanded that I deliver with everything I had - not just stick to what sounds pretty or is considered commercial! I had to surrender to the creative process, my producers and co-writers, and all my emotions. We each put so much love into the record and challenged ourselves to go deeper beneath the surface to elevate the message of ride-or-die love. What's next for you? I'm so thankful to be able to reach the masses with passion, love, and soul, and I am so excited for what's next! We have a deck of upcoming releases from my EP, The HolleyGraphic EP, film and reality TV projects, and new live show dates/ tour dates! It means everything to me to be there for others through music, like music has always been there for me! Instagram Facebook
- Let’s Get Real on Heartbreak With Vermantics
We're excited to introduce you to Vermantics, an Australian band that has reached incredible new heights in the past twelve months in the industry. They've pushed constant singles over the past months, and today, we share their most recent piece, "Thinking Of You." The distinctive sound of Vermantics is loud and contagious, like good Rock and roll but with a collected modern vibe. It is an incredible combination of styles we love and appreciate; in their new single "Thinking Of You," Vermantics talks with their heart in their hands, inferior out their feelings towards a nostalgic, wistful story of a love that does not correspond. It describes a perpetual, alone, hopeful but gloomy wait of a lover waiting for their particular person to come around. Who hasn't been there before? When you're full of hope, expectations, and a dreamy sensation that you will soon be corresponded to, only be defeated by the waiting and lose all hope. This is a call out to every lover, every dreamer, in the anticipation of love or anyone with hope. Amid all that perceivable pain in this song, Vermantics makes you feel a little less alone and energizes you to continue moving forward. After all, who doesn't like a romantic, hopeless love story? Vermantics, for us, is that successful best friend that went through heartbreak before and gave you their shoulder to cry on while you feel the pain of an unrequited lover. Welcome To BuzzMusic, Vermantics, and congratulations on your latest release, “Thinking of You.” Focusing a little bit on the growth of your career, can you share with us what’s been the biggest challenge as a band? The biggest challenge was coming out of the pandemic. We had just to push through. We wrote lots of material, which was a huge positive, and worked hard on crafting what we wanted the band to become. We’re super interested to learn the inspiration behind your name “Vermantics?” Shhh, it’s a secret! What changed for you guys after your live debut at the Cherry Bar 2022? Our debut show at Cherry was a night we’ll never forget. There was this vibe on stage that we had all never experienced before. We knew we wanted to be a strong live band. We worked on crafting our live show before heading out on tours later that year. The first show at Cherry felt like the beginning of a long journey! What inspired you for “Thinking Of You?” What’s the main message you wanted to spread? It’s a song about being scared to tell someone how you feel about them. I don’t know that there’s a message we want to spread, but I think everybody can relate to that feeling. What excites you about the near future of Vermantics? The future is so exciting. There’s so much material that we’re itching to get out. Instagram Facebook
- We Are Overthinking About Maro DēLo’s Newest Release, “Think Too Much”
There’s nothing better than connecting to your reality and yourself through music. Maro DēLo is not playing around when going deep and talking about what matters. In his newest release, “Think Too Much,” the Manhattan-born and Philly-raised artist makes us relate with the lyrics, Maro, and our lives. It is so satisfying to listen to this song because it helps you understand yourself better. It helps you figure out your situations and life downsides, and why not help you cut yourself some slack? Music is truly the best partner in life. As an artist, Maro is known for precisely the above: the relatability, honesty, and empathy that he always infuses in his music and lyrics. Maro is a versatile singer and songwriter and has pursued many other paths, like acting and modeling. For us, however, he is the best at stripping down the external mask we put on with society and helping unveil the true feelings, traumas, thoughts, and everything else we carry at our core. His ability to be human and express real and current matters through music is incredible.“Think Too Much” describes the situation of many people who go through the same issues daily: your mind playing against you, being your worst enemy, or overthinking everything. In a world that is so fast-paced and so performance-oriented, we often forget that we are still human; we are so hard on ourselves, but amid that darkness, Maro and his song give us light and hope that someday, just someday, we will get out of our way and allow ourselves to feel, ache, love, be happy and all of the other incredible things that imply being alive. The time is now. Go check out Maro DēLo’s new release, “Think Too Much,” and other of his hits on all streaming platforms, but don’t overthink it; just do it. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Maro, and congratulations on your latest release, "Think Too Much." From all the different paths you've pursued over your life, which one has formed you the most to be the artist you are now? Of the paths I considered- medicine, engineering, and education at different points throughout my high school years- I chose the path of entertainer. With six years in music, acting, and modeling- each stand-alone course- fuses into a three-lane highway to bring forth my artistry in a way that is true to me and elevates my game overall as an artist. Each discipline cross-pollinates, especially when you're in the moment of the performance. Maintaining a camera-ready state of mind helps in knowing how I'll always be perceived in both the visual and auditory mediums. My heavy push on TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts pushes my self-awareness and ability to always be "on," thus keeping me in check and allowing me to flip the switch without skipping a beat. Your music is known for the reliability your audience feels towards the lyrics. Can you tell us a fun fact about your creative process when writing? I love this question! I've found the most efficient way to write honest material is having each songwriting session start with the complete unraveling of all of the "tea." Every absolute truth, regardless of how good, bad, or ugly you're feeling at the moment, should freely flow out and into the aura of the studio. It requires an immense degree of trust in your songwriting partners. The therapy session begins once it's all out there and the notes are taken down by the other co-writers in the room (in this case, PJ Bianco, Gigi Rowe, and me). The one in the room supplying the story, in this case, the artist, shouldn't be therapizing themselves. In pop music, the most quintessential part of your song is your hook/chorus. Once you nail down the story you're dying to express to the world, you can begin to explain yourself within your verses and bridge as you decide if the record needs more context. At the same time, it's integral not to force anything into the song that doesn't need to be there, even down to the last syllable or instrumental part. I only include aspects that boost the beating heart of the song. What inspired you to create "Think Too Much?" Was it a personal experience? Tell us a bit more. "Think Too Much" is a uniquely written tune for several reasons. It's an introspective look at the relationship one has with oneself regarding how much energy one puts into anything- no matter how big or menial. Because of that, there's no one-story arc to the song. The inspiration comes from taking a cold, hard look in the mirror after something doesn't, or so I think won't, go my way and letting myself know that I'm likely overthinking into something that just isn't that deep and shouldn't require excessive brain power. Each waking moment of my existence, I want things to go right. We all do, but we know that's not how the world works. So, what do we do as humans? Compensate for every little thing that could go wrong. We think about all those possibilities way too much instead of rationalizing the many things that will probably go right and giving ourselves a beat to enjoy life! What is one challenge you face when you want to convey something in your music? Another great question… I genuinely care and, at the same time, will not hesitate to tell it like it is. My biggest hurdle sometimes is making sure I'm not being too abrasive in my delivery or, on the contrary, under-abrasive. For example, I recorded a song with PJ the other day, and we decided it needed some oomph. We ended up turning this slow, self-pitied country-pop tune about a girl who emotionally cheats on her boyfriend into an upbeat, hyper-pop bop about a girl who, in the literal sense, cheats on her man with her "friend." We battled with the hook's lyrics, trying not to be too crass, but then realized brutal honesty is just what the song needed to resonate with the masses from a truly authentic place. Ultimately, the challenge was to change the production and story just a bit to serve the song and take it from expected to edgy. I will release "Just a 'Friend'" in the fall. What's next for you? Next up, I have several song releases this year and many live performances and music videos, which I will be posting on my social pages. I'm working on a new website and fresh new merch with my fantastic marketing team at Pennyfly Entertainment, so be on the lookout. Access to everything is at this link. I also have several modeling, runway fashion, and acting projects coming up, including performing music and walking the runway for Gobbana. I'm excited about being cast in a pilot episode titled 'Pressure Cooker' for an upcoming TV series, "Joey's Place," an edgy, funny, and fast-paced single-camera, half-hour dramedy. It's about an enterprising but wavering blue-collar crime boss as he attempts to navigate his small-time rackets under cover of his neighborhood eatery while, at the same time, trying to appease his sharp, caring, but utopian new wife. I play the role of Jett Rockwell, a young, hip, rocking barback who is determined to make it as a music sensation. His story arc over season one is that he will be tempted by the lifestyle and get tangled in the money, the girls, and… the rest. I am also excited to be an Associate Producer on this project. So yes, the coming year is gearing up to be very adventurous for me. Instagram Facebook
- Julian Shah-Tayler Invites You To Explore The Deep Reaches Of Space On New Album, 'Elysium'
“The Singularity” impresses again with an expansive and sonically engaging offering with a little something for everyone. Since the stars in the night sky burst into our galaxy and the dawn of our civilization, the power of music has moved hearts and captured imaginations everywhere. Julian Shah-Tayler has always been a big thinker; his fascination with space, the universe, and the big questions that stimulate the human condition have earned him the moniker “The Singularity.” Known for his boundless imagination and incorporation of these questions and themes in his approach, his artistic open-mindedness has imbued his music with a level of magic and mystery that continues to fascinate as much as it enthralls. The universe works in many mysterious ways. Born in Leeds, England, the path “The Singularity” took to find his true calling was not straightforward. Shah-Tayler studied philosophy at York University before moving to London to pursue his true calling. Trained on the classical piano as well as possessing natural skill on the guitar, he would get his feet wet with spells at Creation Records, and the band Whitey before the universe would ultimately send him to LA. Having racked up numerous licenses in film and TV (including receiving a Golden Trailer for his work with Lana Del Ray on Disney’s Maleficent Trailer), the electrifying Shah-Tayler is set to continue building his already impressive legacy with his new album “Elysium.” If you’ve been paying attention at any point in Shah-Tayler’s musical career, the complex, expansive, yet viscerally gripping nature of “Elysium” is no surprise. It feels like there is gold at every turn, and from the moment the album begins with the sonic yet irresistibly groovy opener, “End of The Line,” it feels like you’re being taken on a profound journey. “The Singularity” starts strong and simply never looks back. “Elysium” feels like a grand musical adventure, a foray into the expansive nebulous world of synths, riffs, and vocals Shah-Tayler has meticulously crafted. He also finds ways to keep things fresh and exciting, expertly manipulating his songs' mood, tone, and energy to maximize each line and verse. For example, on “Secret,” a dark, slow start and lyrics like “I escape from life on the blade of a knife / I can see for miles and miles” make the subsequent joy on lines like “I've got this secret / I’ve got no regret I've got this feeling in my bones / That we are never going home” shine so much brighter. This profound sensibility is at the heart of “Elysium’s” success, and although “Elysium” has thirteen songs front to back, Shah-Tayler manages the impressive (and increasingly rare) feat of making a cohesive project that doesn’t feel repetitive, keeping you enthralled with his expansive storytelling and subtle mood shifts. The emotional payoff from highs and lows cut straight to your heart, as on songs like “Evolution” (another standout of the album), lines like the simple yet oft-repeated “Why is there so much pain?” are delivered so solemnly that it feels like the pain in Shah-Tayler’s voice is gripping your heart instead. That’s not to say that he keeps you melancholic the entire time, though; as “Elysium” winds to a close, the darkness and vague malaise of songs like “Bet Your Life” are shed by the supersonic speed of “Darkling U,” before Chatfield’s remix of “End of The Line” take you home. In contrast to the “End of The Line’s” song title, it feels like a storm has blown over, bringing light and endless new possibilities for the next stop on Shah-Tayler’s musical adventure. Julian Shah-Tayler’s “Elysium” feels like a dream, like you’ve been spirited away from your bed to that magical point where the infinite nebula of space and the forces of music intersect. Whenever you’re ready for your next musical adventure, tap in and stream Shah-Tayler’s new masterpiece, “Elysium.” We loved "Elysium," what a beautiful album! We wanted to ask, what was the inspiration behind "Elysium?" How did you envision it, and did it end up being different from what you thought? The album was written about the end of my last relationship and the trajectory of the next one. I wrote from the heart about the exact situations and the emotional ride they took me on. Song by song, it tells the story of the ups and downs of a great Love. It's become a cycle, as I just broke up with the album's subject! I always write songs as a kind of diary. My lyrics are the story of my life unfolding, my catharsis, my plea, my joy, and my pain. I envisioned it as a celebration of Love and life, not a commentary on the cyclical nature of relationships in general, but it ended up becoming that. The last song (Darkling U) then turns into the beginning of the end and should probably start back again at "End of The Line." So you grew up in Leeds in the UK, but now you're based in LA, right? How have both of those music scenes influenced you as an artist? I was born but did not grow up in Leeds. The principal influence is probably from London, where I lived my adult life. The London scene must have influenced me very strongly, but I have rarely been influenced by my surroundings but more by media-driven and word-of-mouth music. I tend to discover music through people, not "scenes." The LA scene is entirely different, and I feel like an outsider musically, but I find other musicians supportive and wonderful. The best band in LA is Piel, for whom I used to play guitar. They should be HUGE. What is your favorite thing about being able to make music you like and release it to your fans? I enjoy putting myself into the world as a vulnerable, honest artist and having people respond positively to my heart and soul. I have found so much respect and Love from the people paying attention since Elysium came out. It has struck a chord with people. I have found my "tribe," the romantic and sexy people who pay attention to art and enjoy good movies and books... What was your favorite part of bringing your vision for "Elysium" to life? I'm doing the research for the sexy songs I'm. Just kidding. Working with David J (Bauhaus/Love and Rockets), MGT (The Mission UK/Tricky/Peter Murphy), and Robert Margouleff (Stevie Wonder/Devo) on this record. An honor. What's next for Julian Shah-Tayler? Can we expect to hear more new music, and is there anything you want to say to your fans? I wrote a whole other album during this period of being in the "Love Bubble." It is pretty much done, but I will most likely release a "Greatest Hits" before that. I have had a long career with some success, so I want to remind people by releasing the "best of" before digging into the next stage. The following unreleased originals will be called "Honne Tatame," a Japanese dichotomy that means the face we show the world and the "Real face." This means I can release some songs that deal with Love and some that deal with politics and social commentary on the same record. Mike Garson and Carmine Rojas from Bowie's band are on the record; Alain Whyte (Morrissey) is also on it, along with Christopher Olivas (ex-Berlin) on drums. And David J, of course. I wish to tell my "Fans," or as I like to see them, "friends" and #singularpeople, that I still believe that Love and pain are just part of life. Write it down, live through it, and emerge stronger. "Love is all you need," as some band from Liverpool once said. I would also like to ask fans which songs they would like to hear from my long career for the upcoming live shows. Instagram Facebook
