Jamaal has captivated audiences with his unique blend of Afro-fusion sounds by bringing what feels like a breath of fresh air into the music scene. With deep roots tracing back to the Caribbean islands of Trinidad and Tobago, Kwesi Jamaal has always stayed true to his roots. Currently based in the multicultural melting pot that is Toronto, he’s stayed tapped into his cultural heritage, taking the scene by storm with his catchy debut single “Afrikan Qween” when it was released in late 2020. He would build on the success of his debut with another banger, “Summer Crush,” the year after, immersing listeners in the sounds of the Caribbean and bringing vibes of sunshine and beaches. Jamaal’s latest release, “Light It Up,” is an open invitation to let your body sway to the irresistible sounds of a tropical paradise. The smooth, sensual instrumentals for “Light It Up” expertly fuse afrobeat and dancehall sounds to create a sound that will make you move your waistline. Whenever you’re ready, tap in and stream Kwesi Jamaal’s latest single, “Light It Up,” available now on all major streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Kwesi Jamaal! We loved “Light It Up;" the playful yet relaxed vibe was something we enjoyed! Could you take us through the creative process for this song? Thanks, and I love that you vibe with my music! Mid-pandemic, I took a trip to the Dominican Republic; experiencing the culture, beaches, food, and parties impacted me. I remember laying in the hammock on my balcony one day, watching the palm trees blowing in the wind, hearing the buzzing of people on the street with fast cars zooming by, and the melody with lyrics for the first verse came to me. The storyline flirts with themes of magnetic attraction, freedom to lose oneself in the moment, and the euphoria of energetic highs. Production-wise, my producer, Nate Smith, and I collaborated on the sound. Dancehall and Reggae music was influenced by key instruments like horns, strings, keys, and bass creating melodious sounds. I used vocal harmonies in the pre-chorus and the trance-like instrumental build-up to a climactic chorus. The intention is to give listeners a sensual feeling with climatic breaks to keep the energy vibrant and enjoyable. You mentioned you have strong Trini roots, but you’re currently based in Toronto. What’s the music scene like in Toronto? Is there a large dancehall influence, and how do you incorporate the spirit of the Trini sound into your music? Toronto's music scene is thriving! From Rock to Pop to Hip-Hop to Caribbean music and Afrobeats, it’s arguably Canada's mecca for music. Impacting music genres like Dancehall, Soca, and Afrobeats are steadily growing with a diverse and loyal fanbase. Trinidad is mostly known for the Soca and Calypso genres. I was born in Trinidad, and our music is often high energy, party friendly, and contains descriptive storytelling. I fuse my Trini dialect with other musical styles and rhythmic flows in my music. I always make sure to bring the essence of my Trini roots and culture into my music to show the diversity of my people. Do you have a favorite music-related memory you’d like to share? Definitely! Many come to mind, but I'd like to share a more intimate music memory to help readers get to know me more personally. As a child living in Trinidad, raised with Caribbean music greats like David Rudder, Bob Marley, and Calypso Rose, I would sit on the floor while my mother cooked meals, listening to music with her and dancing to the rhythms. I would use iron pots and pans as drums, beating them with wooden spoons in sync with the music on the record player. That feeling of performing to an audience of one, then my family and neighbours never left me. I still get that same hypnotic feeling whenever I hear music today. That feeling helps drive my passion to create music from an internal concept into musical melodies with different instruments when in the studio. Not many people know this about my creative process, but I’ll break it down- I get inspired in 1 of 2 ways; either I hear a beat/music which will inspire lyrics, or I can visualize a story in my mind and create lyrics and a melody to accompany it. I have a genuine love for music, and I'm grateful to have been blessed with this gift. How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard it before? I label my music as Afro-fusion, a mellifluous fusion of Afrobeats, Soca, Dancehall, Hip-Hop, and Dance-Pop sounds. My music's both sensual and energetic and meant to excite you and make you feel like you have to move your body; to connect with others attracted to the vibes. It's a captivating experience that will romance your heart forever, from when the sounds kiss your ears. What’s next for Kwesi Jamaal? Can we expect to hear more new music soon, and is there anything you want to say to your fans? In 2023 my mantra is "We Set Di Vibes!” We create energy that impacts our daily lives, environment, and communities. I've returned to the studio motivated to create a musical project (upcoming EP) that will add pure vibes to the soundtrack of my fans' lives! Light It Up is the official single of the upcoming EP scheduled to be released this Summer. To my fans, who I affectionately refer to as my "Vibes Community," much love and gratitude for choosing to grow with me on this musical journey. Thank you for your continued support, and stay tuned for more music and content to enjoy! Instagram Facebook

We loved “Iconography;" what a liberating piece of music! You mentioned that the creative process for this piece was organic, right? What was your favorite part about seeing the vision for this release come to life? Thank you for the opportunity! We appreciate Buzz loving “Iconography!” It’s been fun to celebrate its release! The creative process for this track was very organic in that we let the pieces develop in their own time with no real plan from the beginning of turning this into a release. In early 2022, Tony wrote the poetry that eventually became the track's lyrics. The name “Iconography” came months after hearing a friend say the word while hosting a drag show, and the instrumental came after that. We recorded a demo at home that sat in our files for months and months while we focused on releasing other projects. Then in late 2022, we recorded it in the studio and started planning the music video afterward. Our favorite part of the vision coming to life was probably seeing the music video for the first time. Everything seemed to fall into place easily for the video shoot, and our director, Darrin, captured the vision we had for the video perfectly! What’s been your favorite part about making music in general? Do the two of you have any favorite musical memories together? Our favorite part about making music is manifesting our dreams into reality and continually proving that we can achieve those dreams that little 8-year-old Jesse and Tony had growing up. It is so amazing to witness a spark of creation turn into an idea that turns into a real-life moment. Sharing those moments with people who support us is incredible, and we hope to encourage those people to go after their dreams and, more importantly, accept and love themselves as they are. For any listeners who might be trying to follow in your footsteps, what do you think is the most important quality for an artist to have? Stay authentic to yourself. PERIOD! Many artists and art forms inspire us, but we only aspire to be unique. That is part of the fun of creating art- you discover your unique spin on life. You process qualities that are uniquely your own, and the world needs YOU! What do you aim to achieve with your music, and how would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard it before? We aim to achieve big personal dreams with our music, like arena shows and awards, but our main hope is to connect with people to spread the important message of self-love and self-acceptance and encourage people to go after their dreams. Our music is a mixed genre you can bop to with pop songs like “Iconography” and our debut album, "Who We Are." We strip back the glitz (but never the glamour) with our acoustic projects like our cover of “Sweet Child o’ Mine” and our "Live From Popside Recording Studio" EP. Party Favors has a little something for all types of people. What’s next for Party Favors? Can we expect to hear more new music soon, and is there anything you want to say to your fans? We’re still celebrating Iconography, but as artists were always creating, so yes, there will be new music soon! We’ve been performing a new unreleased song called “One of a Kind” in our live performances. That track is part of a larger project we’re looking forward to! To our party people and dream makers (the people who help our dreams come true): We are so grateful for your continued support and love. We have met many amazing people during this journey, and you inspire us in many ways! Thank YOU! Continue to be kind. Love yourself. And believe in the impossible! Instagram Facebook

  • Toronto Native Rapper D’NME Shines a Light on Alcoholism With His New Single “Intoxicated”

D’NME, the self-proclaimed “best rapper alive,” brings another offering to the world with his new single “Intoxicated” – with a deep message attached. Stirring the underground Toronto rap scene in the late 2000s, the master lyricist has faced one of the most detrimental factors in an artist’s career, lack of support from the local populous. Yet this held no power over his self-belief and dedication to his craft. His drive eventually paid off, leading to collaborations with prestigious American DJs, one notably being DJ Drama. Additionally, being featured on numerous renowned platforms such as Thisis50, Sway in the Morning, and Shade45, along with being the first Canadian to secure “freestyle of the week” on Doghouse Radio in the Bronx, D’NME proved his place as the “face of the rap game.” “Intoxicated” entails an internal battle with addiction, this case being alcohol. Modern pop culture has seemed to normalize the excessive consumption of this substance, and D’NME has created a story that many individuals can relate to. Most of us have someone in our lives who struggles with one substance or another, so hearing these deep, self-wallowing lyrics in this record brings the listener to a place of reflection. Opening the track with the sarcastically spoken “Don’t drink and drive” immediately sets the tone for the rest of the record. This is a character who is currently deep in this battle. As the record continues, he brings awareness to the numerous issues and influences that entail the dance with alcohol and the dark forces that play a part in it. Peer pressure, hereditary addiction, and coping are some of the themes/feelings touched on throughout the journey of the song. Take a journey through the captivating mind of an addict with “Intoxicated” as D’NME once again shines with his elite storytelling abilities. We’re honored to have you back on Buzzmusic D’NME. Congratulations on your release of “Intoxicated,” which dives right into the depths of alcoholism. How long have you been urged to shine a light on this topic? Thank you for having me back. Always a pleasure to sit down and speak with you guys. Honestly, once I heard the beat, the words just came to me. Sonically, the beat had an off-balance feel, making it easy to write the rhymes from an alcoholic’s perspective. I don’t know if I would say I had an urge to touch on this subject because I usually go off of the feel of the beat, but I am happy that I touched on this topic because I know a lot of people deal with alcoholism. So it’s very relatable. I think it’s one of the most introspective songs I’ve ever written. We’re curious about the experiences possibly shaping the storytelling journey in “Intoxicated.” You touch on a few themes related to alcoholism, one being hereditary traits being passed down. May we ask if you’ve had a personal struggle with this? Ironically enough, I don’t drink. (Laughs) Have I had a drink or two in my life? Yes, but I choose to abstain from alcohol. As far as the experiences, I pulled from the people around me. I have many friends that consume alcohol, some more than others, so it was very easy to write from that perspective. Regarding the hereditary aspect, I have seen many cases where someone I know struggles with sobriety because of a genetic predisposition to alcohol use. In situations like that, it’s disheartening because you know that person is fighting against something highly unavoidable. It’s a hard thing to have to deal with. Was speaking in the 1st person from such a dark place on one of your records difficult? The difficult part, to be honest, was visualizing each person’s experience when I was writing the song. For instance, the line “I admit it, I'm guilty, I drink even if the next one kills me.” I’ve seen many people I know drink excessively, disregarding that the next drink could be the last. So just reverting to some of those experiences brought back some conflicting feelings. I say that because there have been times when I would rather not have seen a close friend in a compromised position due to excessive alcohol. Your lyricism always exceeds expectations, especially on “Intoxicated.” Who would you name some of your major lyrical influences, especially in storytelling? Rappers like Nas, Jay-Z, Lupe Fiasco, Eminem, and Royce Da 5’9 are some of the people who have influenced me from a lyrical standpoint. Regarding the storytelling field, I must give credit to Slick Rick first and foremost. He is the greatest storyteller that Hip Hop has ever seen. I think his stylistic DNA can be found in any storytelling song regarding Hip Hop. What else is in store for D’NME for the remainder of the year? Anything we should be looking forward to following “Intoxicated?" I’m always writing and working on music nonstop, but I’ve grown to release music when I feel it’s the right time. “Intoxicated” has been getting such a strong response, so I want to push that song as much as possible before moving on to a new release. I will always be a quality-of-quantity type of rapper, which is one of the main reasons I’ve been in this rap game for this long. Instagram Facebook

  • Andrew X Is On A Mission To Revive The Golden Era Of Music Videos With His New Release, “Miracles”

The North Carolina native is back to take you on a nostalgia-themed trip down memory lane. In a world where music and artistic society are arguably burdened with the over-produced and hectic, North Carolina’s Andrew X has emerged as a maestro who can channel all the nostalgic goodness of eras past and make it work today. Although some might believe that the golden age of modern music videos was during the early days of MTV, X’s work makes a hell of a case in support of that, with his latest music video, “Miracles,” poised to maintain the incredibly high standard he’s set for himself and serve as a reminder that sometimes vintage is better. X believes that the visual language established in the 80s for music videos possesses an undeniable warmth, imagination, humor, innocence, and personality that can continue to captivate audiences today just as it did in the past. “Miracles,” directed by Luke Pilgrim and Brad Kennedy, is a delightful homage to those first-generation clips we saw ages ago that still inspire us. Both a fresh new release and a teaser from his full-length album “Driving At Sunset,” “Miracles” is the culmination of X’s artistic ability and ethos, drawing on every bit of his nostalgia-tinged artistic tendencies and to give us a one of kind performance you won’t soon forget. “Miracles” is a wild and hopeful ode to romance in times past. The story revolves around a man infatuated with an infomercial host. The host isn’t just a pretty face; she’s a young woman with her dreams mirroring the protagonist’s desire for something more. In true 80s romantic comedy fashion, although it doesn’t initially look like our protagonists will end up together, a “Miracle,” primarily influenced by our heroine, provides us with the happy ending we so severely long for. Remaining faithful to the source material, the video is adorned with gorgeous 80s colors and lighting and shot with the same aesthetic Phil Collins or Steve Winwood might have used. For fans of an older school or vintage aesthetic, Andrew X’s “Miracle” definitely stands out as a must-watch. Andrew X’s “Miracle” is a glorious, nostalgia-inducing three-minute journey which invites us to relive the golden age of music videos. Whenever you’re ready, tap in and stream Andrew X’s “Miracle,” available now on all major streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Andrew X! We loved “Miracles;” what a blast from the past! It hit all the warm nostalgia spots for us! We had to ask, what was the inspiration behind this song? What made you make it the centrepiece for your upcoming album “Driving At Sunset?” Thanks for having me! I appreciate it! Well, many of my songs are stories of sorts. Mostly based on real-life experiences! Like Hollywood, by the time they make it to the big screen, or in my case, the big speaker, they have been stylized and crafted into art. With that being said, from the beginning, all of my songs are always driven by real feelings and passion. I wouldn’t have it any other way. The main reason I write a song is to convey a feeling and to hopefully evoke a reaction from the listener with their own feelings. I want to showcase songs that the listener can relate to on an emotional level. I know that I’m not the only one that has felt a certain way before or been in a particular situation before. I know that there have to be others out there that can say, “Yea, that happened to me too. I felt that way as well”. My songs, like most songs, are just a telling of the story of the human experience. Now, on with the story! When I was in my early 20s, I met this girl at a show my band played. She came out of her way to make sure she introduced herself and that we met. I did my best to play it cool, but we instantly hit it off, and I was comfortable with her as if I had known her for years. My immediate reaction was, “I think this girl is interested in me.” The day we met, I had literally just come off of a breakup from a relationship a few days before, so I was a little unsure how to react when I pretty much immediately ran into this situation of meeting someone that I was so intrigued by. As I write this, sitting here right now, it just dawned on me that this is probably a big reason why this story went down the path it did! She probably felt I wasn’t interested or, at the very least, got some very mixed signals I was sending! Anyway, by the next time, we played that city, I ran into her again, and we kind of hit it off again. I was definitely interested in her, and I still thought she was interested in me, but I was never really sure. As I got to know her better, I realized she was a beautiful person who was very kind, talented, and passionate. She deeply cared about others, and making the world a better place seemed to be where her focus was at. I found her to be very captivating. I had never met anyone like that before. Since I was never sure how she felt about me, and I didn’t want to mess up our friendship, I just never really made it a point to see what was really going on. We stayed friends for many years until life took us down different paths, and we drifted apart. The day I sat down and wrote “Miracles,” I didn’t have that situation on my mind. It was just another day when I picked up the guitar to play some music. The song began when I found this great little guitar riff that I liked. It is the one that is now in the dropout chorus. At the time, it was also in the intro and the turn after the first chorus. For some reason, the situation I described above came to mind at that moment, and I started fleshing out the first verse. “Since the first time we met, when you were wearing that blue dress” just rolled off my tongue. I can still remember when we first met. It is a vivid picture in my mind, and turning that into a lyric just seemed like a natural move. After the first verse, I moved on to the chorus, where I focused on the idea of faith and miracles, which was my way of alluding to the core of who I felt this girl was and what she was really about. I always saw her as being a very faith-driven person who felt she had a calling to help others. She always believed she could make a difference in the world, and she worked hard to do so. She believed in miracles. After I completed the wording, phrasing, and melodies of the chorus, I moved on to the second verse, then the bridge, and finally the outro, and as they say, “The rest was history!” This song really wasn’t very challenging to write. It was just one of those songs that seemed like it wanted to exist. I just had to go with the flow, write it down, and record it. I felt it was exceptional from the beginning. At first, I was worried it was maybe too “pop” sounding, but in the end, it felt just right to me. I chose this to be the first single from the album because I felt it was a strong song that a lot of people could relate to. I love how it starts with the keyboards. I love the feel and vibe of it. It really landed where I had in mind. I guess, sometimes, you just know. You can feel it. You can feel which songs are special. I felt that about this one. So you’re dedicated to making a tremendous audio-visual experience for your listeners. What was your favorite part of bringing the video for “Miracles” to life, and how did you even decide what the music video would be? Actually, Luke and Brad over at Sozo Bear Films had a very impressive storyboard presentation for me to see if the concept we used for “Miracles” before I was even able to really share some ideas I had for the video! I thought it was great and instantly felt I had made the right choice by reaching out to them in the first place. Before I spoke to them, I had a few very loosely put-together concept ideas in mind, but I quickly realized their concept was much more interesting as they told me about it! I believe in trusting the right people to do their job. I believe Luke dreamed the concept up. The ideas I had were more abstract or based on the song lyrics. I like how his narrative storyline worked well with the song lyrics but brought an interesting concept along with it! I loved the bit about the tv shopping network! My favorite part about bringing the “Miracles” music video to life was working with the guys at Sozo Bear Films. They are a nice group of people who are passionate about what they do and work hard to make things excellent! I love it when I see people and organizations who are following a culture of excellence. Those are the people and places that often do something special. Each member of the Sozo Bear Films team brought something different to the table. Luke Pilgrim, Brad Kennedy, and Ellis Treece are all a lot of fun and great at their job. I have known Luke since 2005, when were pretty much kids in bands. His old band Last November played many shows with my old band Hot Vegas. I would say at that time; he may have been 17 or 18. Even then, he did a great job writing and producing his own music and music videos! He is a very gifted person! What’s your origin story? How did Andrew X come to be, and do you have any particular favorite music-related memories? How far back do you want me to go? I’ll bypass my childhood of how I became a music fan and started playing guitar and skip forward to when I started pursuing a career in it. Back in the summer of 2003, I started a band named Hot Vegas. Within two weeks, we wrote ten songs, hit the studio, and recorded a full-length album we released called The Reverse Forward. It was pretty raw and not recorded very well, but people reacted to it. We had a tiny label offer us a recording contract. We didn’t take it, but it encouraged us to keep pushing forward. In 2004, we recorded another full-length that we ended up not releasing until I finally released it back in the 2010s. We recorded what would often be referred to as The Reflection Sessions and later released as the Truth In Love album at an iconic Charlotte, NC studio called Reflection Sound Studios. R.E.M., Brand New, and some other cool acts had done albums there before. While recording, we actually ended up moving to Charlotte and lived in an apartment building next door that was owned by the guy who owned the studio! It wasn’t until 2005 that things really changed and started moving for us. In early 2005, we booked our first tour and also recorded a six-song EP that we released titled “This One’s For Desire.” We played like 75 shows that year throughout the eastern United States. In December of 2005, we went into the studio with Matt Goldman, who produced my upcoming album Driving At Sunset and recorded the album Migration. This album opened many doors for the band. Also, at this point, our sound had matured and greatly changed from where we began. The songs were written much better, and it was our first professional recording. We released it in April of 2006, which changed so much for us. We had interest from both major and independent labels. We started getting requests from music supervisors who wanted to use our songs on nationally televised shows, and we started getting opening slots for nationally touring acts. It was a lot of fun, and it all happened so fast! When you are in the middle of it all, it is hard to really appreciate all the great things happening to you at the time. You are so focused on what’s next that you don’t really soak it all in. It was in 2006 when the idea of “Andrew X” was really born. This is the first time I have ever told this story! I’ve always been a big fan of 80’s music and the artists who created it. At that time, I was a big fan of bands like U2, The Police, etc. One day I was thinking about Bono, Sting, and The Edge and how they all had stage names. I thought it was a bit odd they had those names, but at the same time, I found it interesting. It was like they were ‘80s WWF wrestlers or something who got to come up with their names. I liked the idea of it. I thought, “It would be fun to have a stage name, and I think it might help people remember me better.” At first, I didn’t tell anyone I was thinking about it, but in the back of my head, I was rolling ideas around. For some reason, one day, I was thinking about “St. Andrew’s Cross,” which you see on things like the Scottish flag, so I researched it a bit. Essentially, it is cross-shaped like an X. I thought to myself, “It’s like a symbol for my name.” I liked the idea, which is how the moniker “Andrew X” was born. While I don’t explain this to people, in my mind, it is just my first name with the symbol beside it that represents my name. I first used “Andrew X” in the liner notes of the Migration album and whenever I was being interviewed. I thought people might initially make fun of me, but people seemed to like it. I was often told they remembered me because of that X! From a branding perspective, I’m not sure how good of a move it was. Andrew X sounds a bit like the name of a rapper or techno artist, but in my head, it was just my name with the symbol that represented it, and I liked it, so I stuck with it. In 2008, Hot Vegas hit the studio with James Paul Wisner in Florida to do a new record. We did not release that record until 2010, under the band The Air Station. That name change was a bad business move! That album is called The Human Condition. Also, during 2008, I had been writing many acoustic guitar-based songs and decided to do a solo project. That was how Andrew X really started as a project. I released the double-disc Language Of Love album in 2009. And that is some version of the origin story of Andrew X, and Buzz Music got to cover it first! Surprisingly, I’ve never been asked about it before. What or who was your biggest artistic inspiration growing up? There were so many! It takes work to nail it down. Countless artists have influenced me over the years. There are so many that have made a huge impact on me. For the sake of entertainment, I’ll make a list of some of the more major ones that pop into my head. Fleetwood Mac, Cat Stevens, Phil Collins, Bryan Adams, Tom Petty, Eddie Money, Travis, Michael Jackson, U2, Steve Winwood, 2Pac, Chaka Khan, Lionel Richie… there are so many that is not even the tip of the iceberg! I just stopped because the list would be too long! As crazy as this little list may seem, I can point you to specific elements in my music that these artists directly inspired! For example, Michael Jackson’s song “Human Nature” and Phil Collins’ “One More Night” were two songs that heavily influenced the Andrew X song “We Are The Night,” which was on my 2015 release, Young Hearts. The song “Shoot For The Moon” on that record was heavily influenced by Lionel Richie’s “Dancing On The Ceiling.” What’s next for Andrew X! Can we expect to hear more news about Driving At Sunset soon, and is there anything you want to tell your fans? Quite a bit! Driving At Sunset includes ten studio recordings and will be released on September 20th, 2023! I have selected three “singles” I will promote throughout the summer. They are “Miracles,” “Where Are You Now,” and my personal favorite, “Whatever It Takes.” Each week I will be dropping a significant piece of art. The first week will be the album version of the song. The following week I will release a lyric video, followed by the music video, then an alternate remix version called a Golden Hour version, and finally an acoustic version. This week I completed the “Miracles” rotation and released the acoustic version on Wednesday! If you are a fan of the song “Miracles,” I would highly recommend you go check out the music video, lyric video, and the two alternate versions if you have not already. They are all on YouTube if you search for them. The audio versions are also on all streaming platforms, Spotify, Apple Music, etc. I’m proud of all these, and I think you will like them if you check them out! They all bring something different and special to the table. I hope that the music I am putting out right now becomes part of the soundtrack to your summer and that years from now when you think back on the summer of 2023, you will think of these songs! • In “Retrospect,” Jasmine Matthew’s New Single Is a Hidden Gem

Jasmine Matthews is a rising star in the electro-pop R&B genre from Geelong, Australia, making waves with her deeply personal and emotionally charged music. Born out of her own experiences, Jasmine’s debut EP 'Reverie' delves into themes of infatuation and heartbreak. Jasmine confides, "Being completely vulnerable with myself is what helped create this body of work. It’s a huge part of my identity to feel things deeply and be honest about it." Her latest release, “Retrospect,” provides an insight into her distinctive musical style. "Retrospect"' takes a departure from Jasmine’s usual romantic themes, reflecting on the experience of being ghosted. "I’m up reminiscing about when you got all Houdini, straight-up disappearing didn’t tell me nothing, was I missing something?". These lyrics echo the confusing aftermath of being left without an explanation by highlighting the pain of deceit and heartbreak in a relationship. Jasmine then flips the narrative by stating, "Where is my compensation, For the shit that you put me through? I was too good to you.” These lyrics echo the importance of understanding one’s value and urge listeners to harness their resilience to transcend life’s challenges. In "Retrospect," Jasmine pairs her profound lyrics with layers of dark and ethereal vocals. The song opens with a mesmerizing symphony of voices and a mellow sequence of pads oscillating throughout the introduction. The seamless blend of instruments creates a hauntingly beautiful, heartfelt ambiance yet empty. The composition encourages listeners to step into their power and seek resilience even amid hardship. Check out "Retrospect," available everywhere now. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Jasmine Matthew, and congratulations on your latest release, "Retrospect." Can you start by telling our readers what made you realize that music was your path? I think I’ve always known deep down music would be my career. But I only started properly pursuing it in 2021! What were the biggest influences that contributed to your music style? I’ve always been a huge jazz & soul fan. I love the groove and romance you generally associate with artists like Ella Fitzgerald and Tony Bennett. I wanted to emulate that for my listeners while putting a modern spin on the production. Walk us through the production process for "Retrospect." Retrospect was created quickly - we wanted something darker and upbeat to contrast with the other tracks. We recorded the lead vocals, and I decided I didn’t like the vibe anymore, so I returned to the studio the next day with a whole new song! The focus for Retrospect was placed a lot on the production, my main vision was to have something sexy and moody, and I think we achieved that. How does "Retrospect" fit into the overall narrative of your upcoming EP? I wanted to shift from my regular romantic vibe to a darker lens, so ‘Retrospect’ invites you to embrace your inner villain and remind yourself: you are ‘too good’ to be putting up with any person who makes you feel like you’re not worth their time. How do you hope your music will influence your listeners? When I’m creating and performing, I aim to make music that resonates with other people’s experiences, as well as Instagram

Heartfelt lyrics, captivating vocals, and an unforgettable stage presence are all defining characteristics of Victoria Rose, a rising star in the country music scene. Seamlessly integrating the charm of traditional melodies with a contemporary sound, she has created a distinctly unique style. Born and raised in southwestern Pennsylvania, Victoria Rose discovered her love for music at a young age which she explored through playing the piano, ukulele, and guitar. After performing on renowned stages, including Pittsburgh's Hard Rock Cafe and Disney Springs' AMC Theater, Victoria is rapidly succeeding. In "On Your Toes," Victoria brings her audience a track that showcases her immersive songwriting skills and impressive vocal range. This track is an exciting deviation from her earlier tracks and represents an experimental evolution that she and her team have spent the last year perfecting. Co-written with Isa Elliott and produced by the multi-Grammy nominated Berris Bolton, the song delves into the expectations of a relationship, where she issues an ultimatum in the lyric, "I’m just asking to get treated right. If not, this couple will be single." Drawing from her personal experiences, Victoria has crafted a beautiful song that doubles as a life lesson, highlighting the trials of relationships and the importance of self-worth. With her characteristic blend of youthful romanticism and sophistication, she speaks to fans on a deeply personal level. The song's dynamic instrumentation and lyricism provide only a taste of her ever-evolving sound. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Victoria Rose, and congratulations on your latest release, "On Your Toes." Can you walk us through the creative process for your song "On Your Toes?" “On Your Toes” started from a track my producer started to come up with. I instantly loved the sound of it, so I slowly started to come up with a topic that I felt went with the track. It always sounded like a romantic song, but I didn’t just want to write a typical love song. So I went into a room alone with the track for a few hours and just started writing. The verses came to me relatively easily. When the chorus finally hit me, I knew this song would turn out amazing. Writing the bridge was probably my favorite part. We knew the song needed to go somewhere else and build. So with the lyrics I had, I had some help from my co-writer with the melody, and I fell in love with what she came up with. We both agreed we needed a big high note to make it wow everyone. After that, everything just fell perfectly together. \Who were your biggest musical influences growing up? My biggest musical influences growing up were Carrie Underwood, Adele, Christina Aguilera, and Dolly Parton. Can you recall your first song and what it was about? I’ve been writing and developing songs since I was super little. Still, the first one I vividly remember was “Let My Guard Down.” I wrote that after being hurt so many times by people who I thought had my back and always having to have my guard up, but then learning to let it down and let people in. Of all the instruments you've learned, which one do you feel the most connected with? I connect with my guitar the most. I learned piano and ukulele before guitar, but I always seem to go to my guitar first. You've performed on several stages across the country. Which performance has been the most memorable for you? The performance that has been the most memorable for me was performing at Ole Red Orlando for the Battle of the Bands finale. I didn’t even think I would make it to the last round because I was so young and just started performing there. My band and I had a blast that night; everything sounded amazing. And the crowd that night was also amazing. The place was packed, and everybody was singing along and helping me with the one song I sang, “Redneck Woman” - Gretchen Wilson. At first, they announced the wrong winner, but when I didn’t hear my name, I wasn’t even that disappointed because it was just a great night. Then when it was announced that I won, the place went crazy, which just topped the whole night off. It’s one performance I will never forget. Instagram TikTok

  • Take A Ride On Ryan Brown’s Emotional “Carousel”

At only 17 years old, the ultra-talented Ryan Brown's old soul shines brightly on her new single "Carousel." Premiering June 30, 2023, this beautifully produced pop record takes us on an emotional carousel ride, reminding us of young love's graceful, humbling innocence. The whirlwind of emotions and excitement that comes with entering a new relationship directly relates to a carousel ride, having ups and downs and spinning circles within the cycles of affection. Ryan uses this metaphor magnificently throughout the record's lyrics, addressing her naivety in past relationships, singing, "I hoped that we could beat the cycle/ I hoped we'd never change." Her graphic lyrics allow the listener to imagine the scene while letting her raw emotion lead the painting of the picture. Ryan doesn't sugar-coat her life but tells real stories and the wisdom she has shared along the way, evoking the thought of her being an "Old Soul." Having enticing lyrics is one element, but merging these words with her incredible youthful voice that similarly evokes emotion to Olivia Rodrigo is what separates her from the influx of female pop singers. These two ingredients, added to a pot of tasteful production and a classic pop sound, create a perfect combination of catchy and eloquent to consume and fully satisfy. Ryan was born and raised in Marlton, a small town in New Jersey, adjacently the birthplace of another young superstar, Christina Grimmie. This up-and-coming pop singer was on the fast track to stardom in 2016. With show-stopping performances on The Voice, a major-label debut, and winning a teen choice award, the "Anybody's You" singer's trajectory was undoubtedly toward the stars. That was until Christina abruptly passed away in June of 2016 due to a tragic shooting by a crazed fan during a post-concert meet and greet. Since they were from the same small town, it was assuredly destiny that Ryan and Christina would eventually cross paths. "This town connected me to the Grimmie family and gave me the wonderful experience of working with them. I'm very grateful for where I live and have grown up." As if written in the stars, that small town aligned Ryan and the Grimmie family, allowing her to work on Christina's unfinished songs. She finds comfort in knowing Christina's work will live on through her music. Even though she showcases her depth and vulnerability as a teenager, people of all ages experience these same ups and downs. "Carousel" takes the listener on an emotional journey, returning to the youthful love that once stirred our hearts. She claims, "At the core is authenticity," and we certainly agree. Every ride has its end, but we always have the opportunity to ride again. Experience that rejuvenating thrill with Ryan Brown's "Carousel," out now on all platforms. Congratulations on your single release, “Carousel”. We would be elated if you took us through the mental process of creating this beautiful record. Was it difficult to share your personal emotions with the world? Thank you! I remember the first spark for “Carousel” was in October of 2021 after I went through a “friend break-up” and was admiring the pretty autumn leaves. My mom said something about writing a song about leaves and at first I laughed, until I was cleaning my room later that day and found a picture collage of me and my old best friend that she made for my birthday. I was still hurt and the idea of throwing it out made it feel permanent, so I put it under my bed; as the first line of “Carousel" says, “Underneath my bed sits a picture of us, couldn't throw it out so it's there collecting dust.” This wasn't the first time I had gone through a friend breakup and I was upset, wondering why I was stuck in this cycle. Somehow and somewhere in my ADHD brain made a snap connection between the cycle of leaves growing and dying again, and me getting friends then losing them again. Since this song was written two years ago, I’ve more than healed from this specific bestfriend and now find comfort in my own song when this exact same thing happens THREE more times between now and then. However, I still have our picture. We are star-struck by your age! 17? WOW! With the promising career that lies ahead of you, what do you hope to accomplish along the way? I love performing and creating music and hope to do so much more on bigger scales in the future, but most importantly, I hope to help as many people as I can. Music helped me through some dark times and always is a pick-me-up when I’m feeling down, so I hope to make some peoples day brighter. “Carousel” has intimate production elements. What producer did you join forces with to build this song? Actually, there were 2 very talented producers that helped create this song. Joe Nicolo and Stephen Rezza! How did you cross paths with the Grimmie Family and come upon the opportunity of working on the legendary Christina Grimmie’s unfinished songs? The Grimmies lived in my hometown; my dad was mayor of the town and we have stayed in touch since. A little into my professional career, the Grimmies came to me with some unfinished songs of Christinas and I was extremely honored and MORE than happy to help complete them What are your plans for the rest of the summer? Will there be more music following “Carousel” in the near future? This summer I will be releasing more music! I’ll also be traveling the country to sing the National Anthem at various sports games! Fearlessly defying the odds and captivating audiences with her electrifying stage presence and passion, Debbie Christ is like a phoenix, rising from the ashes and using her powerful voice to share her story and inspire others. Formerly known as Peach Guevara, Clara O'Page shed her old identity after having a revelation of sorts and decided to embrace a new name. Her new moniker, “Debbie Christ,” symbolizes her rebellion against a society that uses the lord’s name to spread bigotry. With her new name, she reclaims the power of the language, using it to share her message of strength, resilience, and personal growth through her music. Having developed a multifaceted fusion of garage rock, folk, and punk to create an alluring and unique sound, she leaves listeners elevated, reminding them that every moment is worth living. “We Carry On,” Debbie Christ’s latest release and debut under her new moniker, is a wonderfully enticing introduction to Christ’s new era. Over relaxing instrumentals that softly wash over you like a gentle tide, Christ’s distorted vocals enchant you. Debbie Christ’s fusion of femme garage rock, folk, and punk defies categorization and invites everyone to embrace their unique path. Whenever you’re ready, tap in and stream Debbie Christ’s new release, “We Carry On,” available now on all major streaming platforms, and check out her other release, “I’ve Got Time,” also available now. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Debbie Christ! We loved “We Carry On." We loved how it had that strong yet captivating melancholic mood going! We have to ask, what was the inspiration behind this song? Were you drawing from personal experience? Thank you for having me! We Carry On is about knowing when to let go and learning to trust that everything will be okay, even if it feels really painful. I wrote this song after coming out of a toxic relationship. It was one of those relationships where I was madly in love with this person, but there were a lot of red flags, and they only increased with time. I totally thought that I could change this person and save them, but as things went on, I had to choose between them and my well-being, and once it became a matter of my safety, I had no choice but to let go. I survived, though, and even though it felt like the end of the world, life keeps going and surprises you with how things can get better when you make certain choices. So you were formerly known as Peach Guevara before adopting the Debbie Christ pseudonym! Do you think there was also a shift in music style when you changed your artist name, or would you say Debbie Christ’s sound is similar to Peach Guevara’s? Peach Guevara and Debbie Christ are the same at their core because it's still me, but I've also grown a lot since my days as Peach Guevara. It's still very raw and honest songwriting, but I can get loud with Debbie Christ and be more unapologetic. Peach Guevara was like a shield protecting me, whereas Debbie Christ is like a sword. With Debbie Christ, I can be my heroine. I think that you see the difference the most when I'm performing. As Peach Guevara on stage, I was more reserved, and softer, but as Debbie Christ, I was singing, yelling, and moving around, and finally, not so afraid to take up space and be myself. What’s been the most rewarding thing about being a musician thus far? I think the most rewarding part is when somebody really relates to a song. They may not interpret the song exactly as how you wrote it, but they feel it, and suddenly you feel a little less invisible and a little more seen by them. Anybody can say, "Oh, that was a good set," and stuff like that, but when someone is really moved by a song that you wrote, there's this connection that develops between you and this person, and it's something that I treasure a lot, especially as someone who feels like an outcast most of the time. How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard it before, and if your fans could take one thing away from your music, what would you want it to be? I'd say it's chaotic but in a really fun way. The unexpected is to be expected. Sometimes you'll get some garage rock, and suddenly there's some folky stuff happening. The next minute it's going from slow and meditative to sped-up madness. If fans could take one thing away from my music... hmm... I'd want them to feel brave in a way that they can express themselves, say and feel what they need to feel, and be true to themselves because that's who Debbie Christ is to me. She won't let the world steal her shine, even though it certainly has tried, so neither should my fans. What’s next for Debbie Christ? Can we expect to hear more new music soon, and is there anything you’d like to say to your fans? There is a lot of fun stuff coming up! We have another single coming out in the coming months, followed by a music video and a full album! I'm super grateful to be at this point and to everyone who has supported this project, especially my bandmates, who are both super talented and great people. All I gotta say for now is, "Don't be a jerk, and remember to shine bright, baby!" Instagram
