  • The Good Dudes Want To Know, ‘Where Are You Going?’

It doesn't get much better than the feisty and soulful Louisiana-based blues/rock band The Good Dudes, an 8-piece outfit that's ready to take you back in time with their latest EP, Where Are You Going? The Louisiana-bred blues-rock back comprises eight members who grew up surrounded by entertainment and "letting the good times roll." The Good Dudes made waves with their full-length debut EP in 2019, prompting them to play Festival International de Louisiane, tour the southeast, and continuously expand their devoted fanbase. This time around, The Good Dudes explore their old-school roots in a groovy, funky, and soulful new EP entitled Where Are You Going?, recorded, produced, and mixed at Lightwave Studios in Maurice, LA, by Charlie Gathe. The new EP kicks off with the vibrant intro and title track, "Where Are You Going?" This toe-tapper of a tune leaps through the speakers with incredible passion and energy as The Good Dudes lays the foundation and sets the tone for this passionate and punchy project. The many chant-worthy and sing-along lyrics alongside the danceable instrumentals open the new EP with a bang. Onto track number two, "Taste of Me," The Good Dudes travel into a more funky and groovy 70s approach with their brass-heavy instrumentals, spirited guitars, and the lead vocalist's raspy yet charming performance. This lustful and sensual song hits in all the right places, and The Good Dudes perfectly showcase their ability to capture the listener's attention with an undeniable groove and hot and heavy lyrical themes. Track number three and the EP's halfway point, "Madeline," jumps up the party, which launches through the speakers with thrilling electric guitar riffs right off the bat. This song blends the ferocious blues/rock of the 60s with a unique surf-rock feel bound to get you moving and grooving. The blazing saxophone solo is reminiscent of the late Clarence Clemons, and The Good Dudes do one hell of a job, leaving us with a thrill and chill. Taking things down a notch is track number four, "Try Not to Hurt Me," where the lead vocalist's raspy and melodic vocalist burst through the speakers in a matter of seconds. The slow, sensual, and emotional instrumentals bring the listener deep into the sorrows of turbulent love, navigating through those situations in whatever way possible. It's a dynamic and gripping 6-minute tune that perfectly showcases the peaks and profound valleys of falling in love. Landing on the last track of the EP, "I Wouldn't Treat a Dog," The Good Dudes bless us with their tightly-knit instrumentals and the lead vocalist's larger-than-life presence. This slow-burn tune brings all the soul and passion we know and love from The Good Dudes with an angsty and primal twist that discusses the lows of love. Not only is this a stellar way to close the project, but it prompts the listener to do some major reflecting on what and who is actually treating them right. Feasting your ears on the blues/rock tunes of The Good Dudes is always a treat. Their recent EP, Where Are You Going? is a perfect representation of the band's kickass sound that's praised far and wide. Find The Good Dudes' new EP, Where Are you Going? on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, The Good Dudes. Congratulations on releasing your new 5-track EP, Where Are You Going? Did anything or anyone inspires your group to create this soulful and bluesy new project? Thanks a ton! A lot of inspiration certainly stemmed from frustration from the years of not being able to play live, which is really what we love to do. Ain't nothing better than the blues for those emotions. Some of the songs on the EP, like 'Where Are you going?', 'Madeline' and 'Try Not to Hurt Me' have been in the live set for a few years now, and we decided to juice them up and record them. Myles' influences vocally (Otis Redding, Donny Hathaway, Marc Broussard) lend themselves to this more raw style as well. We're huge fans as a band of the older blues/soul stuff as well, so covering Bobby Bland's 'I Wouldn't Treat a Dog' was a highlight. Originally the EP was going to be just those four songs, and once we wrapped up for the day, Myles said, "let's try this one too" - and we worked our parts out for 'Taste of Me', and it was recorded within the hour. What does your band's typical creative process look like between the eight of you? What was that process like for the EP, Where Are you Going? Typically Myles will have a solid idea of what he hears for the song, so he'll bring at least a rough draft of lyrics/music arrangement. We've all got different strengths/influences, so as we work out the pieces, it's interesting to see how it takes shape and comes together. Once we've got a good idea of vocal melodies and the arrangement, our horn players step in and do their thing. It usually all starts with a groove, and we'll build it out once it feels good; that's what's most important for us to be excited about a song. The process for this EP was a bit different since we've been playing these songs live for some time now, and we already had solid ideas for the arrangements on all of them. We called up Charlie Gathe (producer) and set aside a day to record the whole EP, went in and live-tracked all the music together, cut the vocals on top, and that was that. There are a few extra overlays musically, but the majority of what you hear on the EP is single takes of each song. 'Try Not to Hurt Me' was actually the first take we did - thankfully, it was killer since that one's over six minutes long. Is there a song from Where Are you Going? that your group is most proud of? What makes that song so important to you? 'Taste of Me' is definitely the stand out for us. For one, it seems to be the turning point of live performances; everyone's energy matches the band's, and the room just ignites. Secondly, it was written with much New Orleans influence, from where we acquire a lot of inspiration due to our proximity. It's especially unique from the others because it was tracked with only having parts worked out in ~20 minutes, live in the studio. So what you are hearing is a raw combination of vibe and feel. It's easily the newest of the five on the album and also marks an exciting turn for us to lean more into that style moving forward. That feel has also rubbed off onto the way we play songs from our first record, 'Ready for It,' but we're excited to dive into writing more that matches the energy of our live performances. Could you break down the main themes of your EP, Where Are you Going? What stories or concepts did you want to showcase in this project? The idea for this record was to capture the essence of Blues music that we collectively admire and very much respect; of course, our own expression of it. For the most part, we were all introduced to blues at a young age, and while growing up in the south, one quickly learns its history and heritage from the hands as well as words of local blues musicians. To pay homage, writing the songs for this record started out with the familiar 12-bar format, but from there, I (Myles) wanted to focus on expressing my three favorite styles of blues song: 1. A 'Swinging-Playful' Blues ('Where Are You Going") 2. A 'Rock'n'Roll Story Telling' Blues ("Madeline") 3. A 'Slow&Painful' Blues ("Try Not To Hurt Me") Matched with the Bobby "Blue" Bland cover "I Wouldn't Treat A Dog" and "Taste of Me", we are happy with the final project having a combination of styles and influences that really resonate with us as a whole. Each song individually has its own bite-sized taste of us. What do you hope the listener takes away from a soulful and exciting project like Where Are you Going? What do you hope they experience? Mainly to make the listener feel like they're at a live Good Dudes concert. All of what was tracked is us playing those songs together in the studio, and they've evolved even since we recorded them. Our shows are loud, rockin', and full of energy, and I think the recordings do a good job of showcasing that aspect of the band. With the first release, we were really focused on crafting great songs with sophisticated instrumentation and epic moments - we pulled out all the stops with strings, keys, a choir, and the works. With this release, we wanted to go back to our roots and go a little more old school with the recording method, cutting the whole thing live. It's a bit simpler in the instrumentation because it features only the band, but there are no tricks - just blues, soul, and rock and roll. Instagram Facebook

  • Experience Sonic Freedom In Locations' New Hit, "Moves"

Listening to Brooklyn-based rock band Locations is liberating. They're a fierce New York act ready to get you moving on the dancefloor with their latest hit, "Moves," and accompanying music video. Here's something you don't see every day. It's normal for artists to separate themselves from their day job, but that's not the case with Locations. As location scouts from New York, the band shares themes like workers' solidarity, fighting against corruption, and the "radical" belief that healthcare is a human right. In their recent single, "Moves," Locations serves some heavy and funky grooves but calls on their audience to take a closer look. Inspired by a major health crisis from a member of Locations, the brand reflects on the importance of healthcare and reminds listeners that they're "only truly free when our capacity to continue living is guaranteed," says the band. Locations also released an accompanying music video for "Moves," inspired by CAKE's classic crowd participation clip for "Short Skirt/Long Jacket." As Locations travel around Brooklyn with headphones, they ask passersby to give their honest opinions about the new track. If they were to ask us, we'd say this song feels like freedom. Everything from the catchy hook to the funky electric guitar and vocal nuances has us hooked. And clearly, it has the public hooked too. The visual is quite entertaining, watching as people from different walks of life give their authentic reactions to the new hit. Some smile, some sing along, and some even give their creative two cents. Locations' newest single, "Moves," seems to be a hit. See that for yourself with the authentic human reactions in the band's new music video for "Moves," now available on YouTube. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Locations. We love the double concept within your recent groovy single, "Moves." What experiences inspired your group to create such a liberating song? Thanks for having us! We wrote Moves right after a medical event that put the band on hold for like six months. It was a really scary and challenging time, and it was obvious that we weren’t going to do anything with music for a little while. The very first day we were back at it, that hook just poured out, and we finished the song in just a few hours. We wanted to make it about celebrating life and individuality and, of course, make it shake some butts. What made your group want to hit the streets for some authentic human reactions in your recent music video for "Moves?” Why did you take this unique route? Far from unique! The video is a total homage to one of the best videos of all time by the band Cake, “Short Skirt/ Long Jacket”. We even matched the font and vintage aspect ratio. We thought “Moves” would be our most accessible song by far, so we took it to the people to test it out. The responses were overwhelming! What was your favorite part about recording and creating the music video for "Moves?” What was the most entertaining part of the process? It was amazing watching these people go from skeptically listening to a song (that, of course, they expected little from) and then seeing that spark in their eye when they connected with it. One of the best was a woman telling her friend, “it’s good!”. Some of them were even singing the lyrics by the song's end, and we looked at each other like, “oh, maybe we wrote a really good one!” Although you asked them straight to their faces, what did you want your listeners to experience with "Moves"? How did you want the song to make them feel? We wanted to write something upbeat, positive, and danceable, which is the opposite of our music. It’s meant to celebrate overcoming a bad time, whatever that time may have been, and to recognize that this moment is a good one. You can’t make that track a downer! What's next for you? We just started working with a new Producer we’re excited about! We’ve been working on our debut LP since before Royalties came out and have been playing the new stuff live a lot. We’ve got a few songs in the can and many more written that we’ll be recording in the next few weeks. New tunes in 2023 and lots of shows until then! We’re still using every song to promote issues we care about and organizations doing the work. We’re partnering up with some amazing people for the new stuff. Stay tuned! Instagram Twitter

  • Death Party Playground Bites The Heart In “Summer Fang”

Waterloo, Ontario-based rock band and aspiring Die Hard extras Death Party Playground showers us with a hypotonic pop confessional in their newest single, "Summer Fang." The Waterloo-hailing rock band, fronted by singer-songwriter Kyle Taylor, specializes in colorful harmonies and compelling lyrics that make you think twice. Aside from their music careers, the band is a self-proclaimed group of hellion velvet ravens influenced by a rising 1988 Bruce Willis and the innocent contractors who lost their lives working on the Deathstar. The avid Habs fans just pumped out what might be their most thoughtful and introspective single to date, the lush and cinematic new tune entitled "Summer Fang." It's an infectiously catchy pop song riddled with emotional piano melodies, hypnotic horns, and beaming guitars that snap at the heart like a "Summer Fang." Diving deeper into the new single, the experience opens with Taylor's melodic vocals alongside tender piano melodies and soothing acoustic guitar strumming. While he expands on luck running dry and things not going your way, Taylor emphasizes those painful moments while questioning if those moments are the cause of our sleepless nights. This song is incredibly introspective, and Taylor's lyrics truly tug on the heartstrings with such relatable lyrics that feel like a sonic therapy session. Death Party Playground's chilling pop-rock instrumentals slowly expand near the outro with this cinematic and passionate flair to end the song with heaps of authentic and vulnerable emotion. Allow Death Party Playground to sing your woes away in their newest reflective single, "Summer Fang," now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, DeathPartyPlayground. We admire the thoughtful and relatable lyrical content within your emotional new single, "Summer Fang." What inspired your group to create this honest piece? Thank you! There wasn't anything special going on when I wrote it. It was an unassuming late night. I found some chords and went with them until the structure was there. Pulled that one out of the mysterious ether, I guess! What made your group want to dive into cinematic pop-rock for "Summer Fang?" Did you step out of your comfort zone when creating these instrumentals? When I wrote Summer Fang, I imagined the layering to be just guitars, with a shoe-gaze production like how Slowdive would do it. I started playing it on piano for the fun of it and felt I caught a good feel that way, so I just ran with it. I've written a bunch of stuff over the years with lots of orchestral layering, but I haven't put any of it out. I always felt I couldn't do that kind of thing well live. It was an exciting change to put some of that experience into Summer Fang. I should do more of it. What did you want to get across to listeners with your thoughtful lyrical content in "Summer Fang?" What did you want them to think or realize? I think when I was writing the lyrics, a few lines in it became clear it was about a depressed person. That's something I can relate to. I was actively trying to avoid writing in any platitudes or hollow promises and didn't want to provide any answers either. It's just an honest take on what it's like to feel like that. Hopefully, it evokes some understanding. It is part of the human condition, after all. How does "Summer Fang" stand out or differ from the rest of your discography? What makes this song different? The accompaniments for Summer Fang were all worked out in the studio, and I played most of the parts. Until Summer Fang, the songs were heavily rehearsed before we started recording. Joe (Shugan) and I worked a lot of the parts out together on this one. It's also more of a ballad than anything I've released before. I shot and edited the music video myself using just my phone. A lot of the footage I captured at the Rose Garden in Berkeley. A lot of new stuff this time around! What's next for you? I'm in Montreal for almost the rest of the year. I have some more studio work to do and some live videos from last year I'd like to finish up. There's a pretty great donut shop by our place, and the Habs are better than expected this year. Going to finish the year in Portugal. I'll be ready for 2023! Instagram Twitter

Welcome to BuzzMusic, Najjah Calibur. We're ready to hit the dancefloor and "Celebrate" after hearing about your new single. Could you describe how you felt inspired to create a song celebrating your accomplishments? Oh yeah, for sure I can..we had just got word where I live in Toronto that the pandemic restrictions were coming to an end in two weeks..and that some sort of new normalcy was finally coming back! Within an hour of that, I just happened to hear.. just the shell of the beat being made, and that was it!! All I could picture after almost two years. Two years when the world as we knew it had stopped was the joy and relief and release people would have! I pictured people going out to restaurants, sporting events, concerts, weddings, you name it… and it gave me a feeling of celebration! Now that being said, at the very same time, I also knew I was selected to host the FIFA men's World Cup in November of 2022, and for a while, we didn't know if that was going to happen with Covid restrictions, so I also pictured stadiums of fans from all over the world and me as the in-stadium host all in jubilation celebrating the most popular sport on the planet and the biggest sporting event of the year! It felt AWESOME!! Wow, that moment just talking about it still feels fresh to me now! Pure Joy! Who produced the upbeat and groovy electronic production for "Celebrate?" How did this particular sound help enhance the song's theme? I am proud to say my darling fiancé Chandra "Chach" Raye and mother to my beautiful daughter, started this beat on her MPC beat machine. When I heard it, I was like, oh hell no. I have to convince her to give it to me!! the Reason being she had just started it for herself. The guitar was so mesmerizing to me!! But without further due, she obliged me, thank goodness! Once I got the files, I brought the stems to my beloved brother from another mother and producer who has since passed from cancer, the legendary Juno Award Winning Producer Sheldon "S LUV" Moore. This is where we together really defined the direction of where I wanted the production to go! Still, at this point, I knew I needed to flip the beat for dynamics with a sonic change, so I hollered at my boy in New Jersey, Elvin, aka "Mr.Traverso," to give me that EDM feels, and so said so done!! So we got three producers on this joint. Chandra "Chach" Raye, Sheldon "S LUV" Moore (rest in peace), and Elvin, aka "Mr.Traverso" Traverso, on production. Now because of the high bpm(beats per minute), it already had to lift off written all over it, but it's the clever and colorful guitar riff sample that painted a bright canvas for celebrating, I find, and with the drums rise and drop into that altered EDM sound it really gave the song's theme the legs to stand on. The beat delivers excitement and a joyous Caribbean feel fused with dance/ electric/ EDM and pop, and more importantly, it gave me the feeling I was looking for! What was your experience shooting the lively music video for "Celebrate?" What did you enjoy most about creating such an upbeat party-fuelled video? To be honest, this video was a true test of my faith and my commitment to seeing this project through. Keep in mind I am an independent, unsigned artist, and resources of all types were minimal. However, I had the support of my director Dan Barker who said, “Whatever you can pay me, pay me, and we will make it happen.” We shot my first single video, "I'm Good," guerilla-style, and really just had a game plan of performance spot locations as we were shooting, we developed a timeline and concept, and it just came together amazingly!! This time around, knowing my budget was really just $500, I sought the counsel of an award-winning director Marc Andre Debruyne for some advice. He said you can make the vid look really cool for a low budget with a 360° camera. I told Dan about the idea, and now we set out to shoot, not really knowing where we were going to go because I needed a crowd; I needed a party without having the financial ability to pay for one. Anyways in the morning of the shoot, I prayed and said, “God, I still don't know where we are going to go, but thy will be done.” No sooner than that, I posted on IG about needing a place to shoot, and my home girl reached out and told me about this party called Crave. I googled who was throwing the party, and I happened to know one of the promoters very well..so I immediately called him at like 10 am on the morning of the party and asked if he could let my camera guy and me in film and he said, "this is really last minute but ok!" We shot there, but it wasn't really packed. We got some good footage. We tried to edit what we had, but it was still missing crowd scenes. More importantly, it was our first time trying to edit 360° cam footage, and we were lost..lol. The following weekend we went to another day club downtown, and I wore earbuds and just paid as a patron to go to a pool party. We had a 360° small Go Pro camera, and I played the song on my phone and just performed the song amongst the people there. They were like, “he’s obviously filming something, but he's dancing to a different beat”, lol. We got some great footage there, and then I went to the City fair called the "CNE" the weekend after and grabbed just a little more footage on my Samsung, and then we were done! What I liked the most about this shoot was the excitement of where and how we were going to film the hustle behind it! But the actual editing was extremely time-consuming, learning how to manipulate footage from a 360 camera. Who helped you put together and create the music video for "Celebrate?" How did your team help bring your vision to life? My brother Dan Barker, the vid director, I owe so much. I reached out to him, and he never hesitated in saying, “Naj! Let's just get the ball rolling. I am here for you!" Also, have to thank our boy Martin who had the yellow Hummer and the 360 Go Pro Cam! He was instrumental in getting this shoot done, from driving us all over the place to shooting on days when Dan was busy with another client and, of course, providing the special effect camera. Dan knew what I was going for and never let me settle and was always encouraging me and giving me numerous scenarios to shoot scenes. These two helped me by being so committed to learning how to edit the 360 footage that was a huge pain in, you know what, at first, so I'm so grateful for their dedication as the energy video and of my personality come through. I feel like we really did well, considering this was a $500 video shoot. I can't wait to have an investor or financial partners involved so we can do some larger-scale projects but all in due time! • BUEL Has Something To Say In, “Dancing With Devils Of Mine”

The charismatic and eclectic singer-songwriter and genre-bending recording artist BUEL asks for some respect and privacy in her cathartic and personal new single, "Dancing with Devils of Mine." BUEL takes pride in composing, directing, and arranging all her creations. Her knack for perfection has landed her vast radio airplay across the US and UK, not to mention getting listed as Best New Pop Artist by BBC1. Preparing to release her upcoming debut album in 2023, BUEL's successful career is only getting started. Recently releasing her compelling new single, "Dancing with Devils of Mine," this radiant electro-pop song discusses a more individualistic approach to gender and sexuality. Instead of demanding we know someone's gender and sexual orientation as if it's rock solid, BUEL challenges the status quo and asks us to respect how these feelings and concepts are constantly evolving. The new single blesses us with sonic similarities to Christina And The Queens and Tame Impala. It's an infectiously groovy and modern electro-pop track that bounces through the speakers with energy and meaning. BUEL's breathy and vibrant vocals rain down from above with conceptual lyrics defending our individual journeys and freedom to express and change our gender and sexuality. The song's production is top-tier, and we're certain any listener will appreciate the thick basslines, tasteful drums, and melodic synths that create an otherworldly and fluid listening experience. BUEL is most definitely an artist of the times, as this song perfectly portrays the freedom and evolution of modern-day humans navigating their journey to complete self-love and acceptance. Our life journey is never linear, nor is it set in stone. Allow BUEL to give you a sweet sonic reminder with her stunning new single, "Dancing with Devils of Mine," now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, BUEL. We appreciate the lyrical concept within your groovy and vibrant new single, "Dancing with Devils of Mine." What inspired you to create a song about people's evolving genders and sexualities? With people gaining more awareness or acceptance of the complexity of human nature on a wider scale, I was expecting that being more open to fluidity, leaving people alone with their journeys, and maybe prioritizing the moment with spirituality could be the new norm. Unfortunately, the pressure to sort things out and questions to add new definitions to dictionaries still stayed the same. Gender is associated with femininity and masculinity or specific behaviors and thinking patterns; sexual orientation is expected to fit the description in people’s imagination or to be stable once expressed. I found myself in many instances where I felt pressured to explain myself or engage in discussions about other people’s state of being. Stereotyping is boring and doesn’t really help in understanding anything. People’s individualistic differences, personalities, richness, and uniqueness are fun. If life can be sorted out through dictionaries, then I don’t think we can find a cure for depression. What was your songwriting process like when penning such honest and relatable lyrics for "Dancing with Devils of Mine?" Were there any challenging moments? I haven’t thought about being vocal about this before. Sarah Mctaggart and I were chatting to see if any subject would inspire us, and she brought up a situation she went through about coming out. I think my past feelings came together as thoughts, so I was ready to write. The challenging thing was that I wanted to talk about my personal opinion, and I was writing with two catchy pop songwriters. Sometimes the way I want to say things wouldn’t fit the pop tune, and sometimes, the way they suggest the words would not quite match my thought. We were so focused, and it felt like we were coordinating each other to an imaginary location and hoping to meet there. I remember looking at Sarah and kind of imagining this energy ball between us, and each time a line was written, it felt more real. Do you usually create songs for the greater good, similar to the welcoming concept within "Dancing with Devils of Mine?" Are inspirational songs like this a regular occurrence for you? I like letting it flow instead of knowing what I want to write about before I start. My previous songs ended up being more satiric. Some of the songs in the upcoming album turned out to be about psychological evolution without my intention. After listening to them many times, I understood what they meant. There’s one song about generational trauma called ‘Vermilion’, another about making peace with shame called ‘Grandmother Energy’, and one about fighting suicidal feelings called ‘Bayou’. I’m so excited to share them with everyone. But none of them were planned to be that way. They found their spirit in the words that I thought sounded cool together. What was your main goal regarding the listener's experience with "Dancing with Devils of Mine?" What impact did you want this song to have on listeners? I think a dangerous method of control that is hard to spot is when we are questioned about things considered widely controversial. Because they are deemed controversial, we feel like we have to explain ourselves even when the subject is actually personal, and we would rather not discuss it with others. Since that’s a popular corner, I see people keep pushing each other, too, probing each other for no reason other than getting free gossip material or gaining the power to control; I wanted to speak up about that and hopefully not deal with it in the future. I think I like writing about elephants. Instagram Facebook

  • Find Your Purpose With wingspeak’s New Music Video, “Center Stage”

Hailing from Toronto, singer-songwriter and pop-rock recording artist wingspeak takes "Center Stage" in a new feel-good music video. The new pop-rock act wingspeak is the official artist name of Filipino singer-songwriter Bianca Pocpoc. In terms of her artistic name, wingspeak derives from "The Whole of the Moon" by The Waterboys. "I spoke about wings; you just flew," this line inspired Bianca to say enough is enough; it's time to stop procrastinating and get her music out there. Now, she's sharing her personal pop rock tracks with masterful melodies and the guitar-driven instrumentals of alternative rock. She's showcased this in her debut EP, college st., and again in her recent single, "Center Stage." The new song and accompanying music video look at wingspeak's inner journey toward finding her purpose in this world. The new music video for "Center Stage" opens with wingspeak getting ready and heading out to a talent show. As the beaming and hot stage lights blind her, wingspeak holds up her two hacky sacks and starts juggling away. The judges don't seem too impressed with her performance, so she tries her shot at the bongo drums. One happy-go-lucky judge is clearly into it, while the other two gaze at the clock for the next act. From violin and cowbell to yoyos and drawing, wingspeak couldn't grab their attention until she hit "Center Stage" with a couple of musicians. The judges are finally intrigued by wingspeak, who shares a raw and personal yet catchy performance about shedding her fears and finding her purpose. When you're feeling down and out, not sure where to turn next, let wingspeak be your inspiration to follow your passion with her recent music video for "Center Stage," now available on YouTube. Welcome to BuzzMusic, wingspeak. We truly appreciate the meaning behind your recent single, "Center Stage." What personal moments or experiences inspired you to create this vulnerable song? I wrote this song while in university in the Philippines, around 2014. I was writing my thesis for one of my programs, and it was about economic research methodology, and it's as difficult as it sounds. I felt like all my family and friends expected me to do well. I wanted to quit and change my major to arts-related, but I have already come far. The line "the light's on me, but I can turn them off, and if I run right now, do you think they'd laugh?" sums it up perfectly. If I wanted to, there was always a way out, but I was scared of being called a quitter. What was your experience shooting the music video for "Center Stage?" Who helped you bring that theme of a talent show to life? I had so much fun making the music video for Center Stage! I had the talent show idea for years; I just didn't know how it was supposed to end - whether to leave it open-ended or not. Alex McFarland and Matt Guarrasi helped wrap the music video's concept up nicely. And they thought of giving the talent show a dingy vibe and found a nice venue that fit the theme. The dingy vibe makes it seem surreal, like a dream and a nightmare at the same time that you want to get out of it. What was your favorite part about creating the music video for "Center Stage?" What did you enjoy most about the process? My favorite part was when the judges were giving their reactions. They were funny because I would've given myself the same low scores. The actors who played the judges were so wonderful! What did you want your viewers to take away from the playful and conceptual music video for "Center Stage?" How did you want it to impact them? The main takeaway I would say is that there may come a time when you're expected to do something that overwhelms you. You always have the option to do whatever you want because you're your own person, and ultimately, there isn't anyone stopping you from doing what you want. What's next for you? I have an entire album was written down, so more music, hopefully, next year! Instagram

  • Hot Prowl Empowers Women Everywhere In, “Goodbye to the Girl”

Australian indie-pop duo Hot Prowl is back and better than ever with their empowering and 80s-tinged sophomore single entitled "Goodbye To The Girl." Comprised of producer Stevan T (Gary Numan/DJ Tiesto) and vocalist Melissa Jane, both artists share a mutual love for 60s girl groups and 80s pop. Their debut release, "Paradise," showcased Hot Prowl's profoundly relevant lyrical content and glittering production/instrumentals that never quit. This time, Hot Prowl is unleashing a vibrant tune for the times while empowering women everywhere to free themselves from stereotypes and experience euphoric liberation through their new single, "Goodbye To The Girl." Melissa explained, "I'm so proud of this song. I hope it will be as powerful as intended for every woman who hears it. I see you." Produced by Stevan T and mixed by James Millar (Client Liason/Robbie Williams), "Goodbye To The Girl" radiantly opens with pulsating 80s synths and funky guitars that prompt some major toe-tapping. Melissa's refreshing vocals express such needed lyrics of saying goodbye to the girl who hides from and lies to the world, inviting us never to feel alone again. This song sounds straight out of the 80s, from the robotic vocal breakdown to the string-heavy background instrumentals. It's truly a treat to the ears, and Hot Prowl has no problem holding a mirror up to society while reminding us that our strength runs far deeper than it may seem. It's a celebratory song with a heartfelt message of being your true, authentic self. Do yourself a favor and dive deep into the feel-good, uplifting vibes of Hot Prowl's new single, "Goodbye To The Girl," now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Hot Prowl. We truly appreciate the necessary and empowering message within your recent single, "Goodbye To The Girl." What inspired you to create a song that empowers other women to be themselves? We wanted to capture the spirit of the dance floor and, at the same time, deliver a strong message of empowerment. In all of its facets, music can be so freeing; through dance, performing, creating, and listening, music can open up the parts of ourselves we otherwise keep hidden. It's escapism. We wanted to evoke that feeling. Capturing a moment of being completely free on the dance floor, at one with the music, of being immersed in the energy. It's also a personal triumph, a celebration of stepping into myself. I've encountered barriers at times coming into this space because of my age, gender, and other factors. That said, I think the biggest barrier has been myself and my own self-imposed limitations and preconceived ideas about what I'm capable of. I've had to push myself and work on my confidence to be where I am now creatively. Being part of Hot Prowl and working with someone as talented and understanding as Stevan has been extremely empowering for me. This song is us saying, "we are here" and fully embracing ourselves as artists as much as it is a message of empowerment to the audience. What was your duo's creative process like when formulating "Goodbye To The Girl" from the ground up? How long was this song in the making? The songwriting process for this evolved organically. Stevan had a sample of a melody he'd written, and as soon as I heard it, I knew it was the perfect vibe for the lyrics and message within them. The song grew from there and took on a life of its own. It took a few months of us working together in the studio to develop the track and embed those themes of empowerment and celebration. We come from different places; Stevan is experienced in the industry and has produced music for some major labels/artists. I am brand new to this space, so I have a different perspective and experience. I think that contrast gives us strength in our songwriting. It's a really fun, free-flowing, and rewarding process for us. What was your goal with "Goodbye To The Girl?" What did you want your listeners to think and feel after hearing it? We would love for this to be a dance floor anthem that makes anyone who hears it feel lit up and powerful. Music is universal; it's for everyone, and our aim was for that to come through. That sense of belonging and acceptance. Of finding your voice. We want to create music that's accessible and relatable but has that deeper meaning and nuance when you scratch under the surface. We both had to tackle our insecurities and doubts differently while developing the track. I felt confronted in some moments honestly about my ability not only to express but also to allow myself to feel "I belong here". My biggest hope is that this comes through in the song's feel, the sense of overcoming adversity and proudly standing on your stage in life, whatever it might look like. How does "Goodbye To The Girl" differ from your debut single, "Paradise?" How do these songs differ yet still help listeners get to know you better? "Paradise" has a more mellow feel; we wanted it to be moody and atmospheric; it sits back and pulls you in. It's about addiction and the impact that it can have on relationships, with beautifully crafted lyrics and music by Stevan. Goodbye is more forward and obvious; it's such an upfront kind of pop song but balances well against Paradise, reflecting that balance we have as two unique artists coming together to make music. On the surface/on its face Goodbye is a poppy dance anthem, but when you dig a little bit deeper, it's got a lot going on. Both songs are equally layered and complex but also very different from each other. We wanted that contrast between the first two singles to express and showcase what Hot Prowl is about and the diversity of what we can produce. Both songs explore going beneath surfaces, deep diving into things, and looking underneath for what's hidden. This underpins us as Hot Prowl, a sense of wanting to leave no stone unturned and exploring new ideas. Our next single is due soon. Go further into new territory with some really interesting sounds and melodies. We are excited to keep creating, working together, and sharing our music. What's next for you? We’re back in the studio working on the follow-up release, which broadens our sound and features an accordion as a lead instrument. We’re always exploring and aiming to push ourselves musically. We’re also looking at our first live shows next year, which will be a massive undertaking but something we’re very excited about. Instagram

  • Simon Jay Ignites The Sonic Passion In Tayler Holder's New Single, "It's You"

Los Angeles-based songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Simon Jay (one-half of Pop Production duo Chapters) continue broadening his horizons with each release. More recently, he hopped on the production for Tayler Holder's lush and feel-good new ballad, "It's You." Simon Jay's client list includes familiar names like Olivia Rodrigo, Madonna, Richard Carpenter, Paul Anka, and many more. He's landed his works in HBO's Euphoria, Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson's The Man From Toronto, and tons more. This time around, Simon Jay recently shared that he's been producing and serving as musical director for Tayler Holder, who performed in Nashville's CMA Fest and sold-out shows with Parker McCollum in Dallas. Holder recently released his passionate new single, "It's You," in which listeners get to experience his affectionate lyricism while Simon Jay paves the way with his tasteful production. Expanding on the new single, "It's You," the song opens like a breath of fresh air with soft acoustic guitar picking and a distant country twang alongside Holder's soothing vocals. His passionate lyrics confess all the love and emotion he's bottled up, which are amplified tenfold by Simon Jay's ear-pleasing and sweet-sounding production. The entire song feels like a dream; it's an incredibly well-rounded listening experience with ups and downs, twists and turns, and peaks and valleys that lead us to the person we were meant to be with. Simon Jay does an impeccable job of ramping up the sonic emotion to match Holder's lyrical passion; it's sort of like the feeling when you place the last two pieces of the puzzle together. Show some love to the Chapters-produced new track from Tayler Holder, "It's You," now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Simon Jay. We loved every second of Tayler Holder's lush and spirited new track, "It's You." Was this the first song you produced for Tayler Holder? How long have you been working together? Thank you so much! We worked really hard on "It's You," and I'm glad it's finally out for everyone to enjoy. The first song I produced for Tayler Holder was his single, "Human." It was at a time in his life when he was really struggling; we wanted to highlight the fact that we all go through rough times in life, and there really isn't any exception to that. That was back in January, and now here we are nine months later, making more love songs with him than ever before! What was it like working alongside Holder when creating "It's You"? What was your collaborative experience like? Working with Tayler is amazing. He has a wealth of stories to tell. He's been through so much. Specifically for "It's You", we got to work with some really talented writers, Brody Clementi, Christian Clementi, Thomas Day, and of course my producing partner Luke Shrestha. Tayler and I were in Nashville back in June for CMA Fest. We were practicing in his hotel room, and we started playing the intro riff to the song. We put a couple of ideas down on paper, and later he finished it out with the rest of the guys after I had left for LA. The whole song is about the moment of realization when you want to be with someone, and no matter if you're on top of the world or have nothing at all, you'll always give your all to the person you love. Could you tell us more about your recent role as Tayler Holder's musical director? What made you want to take this position with him? Being a Musical Director is such an incredibly difficult job, but also a rewarding one. Luke and I have a very specific philosophy when it comes to working with artists, and that is that we will do everything and anything in our power to bring an artist to their full potential. There are so many case-by-case problems that artists encounter in their careers, especially when playing live, and I feel like I really have the experience to solve them in a graceful manner. My experience began working with Rickey Minor, who is perhaps one of the most famous Musical Directors ever. Watching how experienced he was with bringing an artist's vision to life on the stage was really incredible. I learned so much from him and feel so grateful to have had such an incredible mentor. Do you have any words of advice for aspiring producers looking to achieve the successes you've accomplished? What helped you work with some of the industry's biggest names? My word of advice would be, " a strong 'why' can survive any 'how.'" To me, this means that if you have a really strong reason for pursuing your dreams, then you can make it through anything. You really have to do some soul-searching to discover your 'why'. but it is certainly time well spent because this will give you almost every answer you can imagine. What's next for you? I really want to finish the year strong. We have more songs coming out with Tayler Holder; one of them is probably one of my favorite songs I've ever made. We made it with one of my all-time favorite artists, and I'm honestly still in disbelief that it actually happened. We also have an EP coming out with the Canadian-based artist Vi. This project is one of the most personal to me, and I know it's going to be an important project in her career. Touch base with us again in a few months, and we'd love to talk about these when they're released! Instagram
