- Josué the Poet Makes Us Feel Nostalgic With New Single “Not the Same”
From the west coast of America, preaching the good word of Jesus Christ - Josué The Poet shows that he is “Not The Same” now that Jesus has been accepted in his life. The song feels like a church song from a movie, musically that is super upbeat and carries a catchy beat for listeners of all kinds. Lyrically, the song gives a truly deep sense of a follower of Jesus Christ and has a Gospel approach while also mixing Hip Hop. Lyrics such as “you gave my whole life meaning, you make this life worth living, I’m not the same anymore”. Vocally, the song has the monotone Hip Hop vocals and they are also accompanied by a female voice who is laying down some heart filled vocal takes from the heavens above! Musically, as mentioned lyrically, the song has a strong Gospel invoice and we are here for it. However, it feels new with the Hip Hop touch that makes it feel as if younger generations can appreciate this, while older generations can nod their heads as it speaks to so many sonic layers. In conclusion, you should just give yourself the 3 and a half minute long sonic experience of Josué The Poet’s “Not The Same”. We hope it gives you the same hopeful experience as we have had. Listen to "Not The Same" here. We love your stage name. How did you come about choosing it? I was actually just going to use my government name Josue Flores but my engineer, my cousin, convinced me to start thinking of a name. He told me it should be a name that both English and Spanish speakers could read and understand because we make music in both languages. I started to think about what I wanted people to know about me before they had heard any of my music. I wanted people to know that I'm a writer first. I started out as a poetry writer. In middle school, I remember reading Tupac's book "The Rose That Grew From Concrete", which is a collection of his poems, and it blew my mind. I wanted to write like that. I decided to keep my first name because of what the name Josue/Joshua means. It means "Yahweh is Salvation". Josue is also the one who conquered the "Promised Land". A true warrior in Israelite history. I added "the Poet" because that is also who I am. A conquering, worshipping poet very much like Josue but also like King David. Thanks for sharing "Not the Same" with us. Can you tell us a bit about the creation process of this single? Did you face any challenges before its release? This song came after my two previously released songs "As I Am" and "History". The way it happened was totally unplanned. When you come to Jesus you are more than welcome to Him exactly as you are with no behavioral changes. You just come to Jesus the way you are, however, and whoever you are. "As I Am" was my debut single and it is about how I came to Jesus. What happens next is that you begin to leave your old life behind. Not because you try or exert effort but because, in Bible talk, you climb the mountain. You begin to chase after Jesus and climb that mountain by reading his word and prayer. Somehow someway your desires to live the life you did begin to change. As you climb the mountain chasing after Jesus your old life becomes your "History" because you leave it all behind. This is what my 2nd single "History" is about. When you leave your old self and lifestyle behind you become someone else. This is how "Not the Same" was written, because of what I was living at that very moment. I am literally not the same anymore. The person I was would not believe what it is I'm writing now. It is true what the Bible says "For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he..." Proverbs 23:7. My diet changed first, not my behavior. My diet became the word of God and it changed my mind. It changed me from the inside out to the point that it started to affect my behavior. The food you eat literally becomes you but not overnight. It is the same with the word of God. It constitutes you until you are "Not the Same" anymore. This process is actually ongoing and it only ends until your last day. A challenge we faced during this time was that my engineer cousin moved back to Ecuador after being in Los Angeles for a couple of semesters in music production school. We released the first 2 songs but then he went back home. I had to duplicate all the equipment that he took back home in order to record. I did it though. I recorded the song and sent it to him. My cousin mixed it while in Ecuador. He then sent me the mixed files and I had them mastered here in Los Angeles. It was tough but we overcame. You mentioned you'll be releasing a new single "Tell the World" on Christmas Day! Did you draw any influence of this new track from your recent release "Not the Same"? Yes!! I am ready to "Tell the World" of what he has done for me. I am not the same because of Him. He took me as I was, changed my life, and made me a new creation. I am forever in debt to my savior because of the lows that he rescued me from. So much so that I want to tell the world of what has happened. If you could choose one artist to collab with in 2020 who would it be? I would say Dee-1 a Christian hip hop artist from Louisiana. I use to think most Christian rap music was corny but his latest album "God and Girls" changed my mind. I use to not be able to listen to Christian rap and would stick to worship music like Micheal W. Smith, Kirk Franklin, Hillsong Worship, Elevation Worship, etc. but because of Dee-1 I'm more easily intrigued and attracted to Christian rap music. I couldn't do it before. I still wanted to make Christian rap music but I didn't use to hearing about God in that way. Dee-1 made it easy for me. What's next for Josué the Poet as 2019 comes to an end? I'm releasing "Tell the World", which is more of a Christian contemporary song, and a lyric video for "Not the Same" by the end of the year. I'm starting to contact music blogs and social media influencers who may be interested in using my music for their content. My wife and daughter are the ones singing with me on "Not the Same" and I hope to use them more and more. I'm writing music that's just for them to sing and record. In 2020 I hope to release music that's not just for myself but also music I've written for them to sing, record and perform on their own. My wife is a worship leader at our church and has been for the last few years. She has an amazing voice and stage presence all she needs is the songs to sing and record. I hope to be able to develop as an artist in this coming year but also be able to develop them and build up our own record label House of Grace Worship. instagram.com/josuethepoet facebook.com/josueTHEPOET #BuzzMusic
- Ralphy Davis Gets In Grind Mode With “AYEDOE”
Ralphy Davis released his single titled “AYEDOE” which stands for “All year every day, dats on everythang.” we were able to interpret this acronym by the catchy hook that became stuck into our heads. “AYEDOE” was a memorable song due to the captivating and unforgettable punchlines and bars. The vibe of the song was smoothly mixed with good energy to have the listener hyped. The beat in “AYEDOE” put a nice spin on contemporary hip-hop beats you’ll hear in mainstream rap. Although the vibrant beat had an invigorating sound, Ralphy Davis flow was more classic. He showcased an old-school delivery with his fusion of a legato and staccato tempo, a skill that only the greats can accomplish. This nice fusion between the beat and the delivery makes this song wildly digestible for both the new and old market of hip-hop. Ralphy Davis showed us a raw insight into who he is and the grind he has for the music industry in the video released alongside “AYEDOE”. You see different clips of Ralphy Davis in the studio, driving around with his loved ones, and simply being his authentic self. This was a refreshing vision to witness and showed us the hunger and passion that’s embedded inside Ralphy Davis. “AYEDOE” was memorable, addictive, casual, and a new hit that will be added to my personal playlist. What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome when making this record? AyeDoe is another great song off my latest EP “Say Less” produced by Seattle producer Starr Spazzin. While creating it my biggest challenge was how can I make it a song dedicated to my movement something you can vibe and ride too. What does “AYEDOE” mean to you? How would you describe the message behind the song? AyeDoe is the label and movement as well as the lifestyle. It represents everything that can go right for you if you stay down for what you believe in. I would say the message from the song would be to always remain genuine and always keep the value of what’s important. What was your songwriting approach when writing “AYEDOE”? You can listen to the full album here. Welcome to BuzzMusic Arlene! We are thrilled to have you here! Your album “Home With You” really hit our hearts. Can you tell us more about your inspiration for this song? That's so sweet of you! I am hoping to touch hearts with this album, that's for sure. This album is quite special to me because I worked with 3 producers instead of one and I produced two tracks myself, which was both really exciting and scary! I got to work with Nick Name, Mike Schlosser, and Kevin Dvorak who brought their own spin to my songs and still made sure the story and the feel of the songs were authentic. Brad Smith united them all together with his amazing mastering skills. The title song, Home with You was inspired by an old-fashioned love story where the two people in the relationship are so in love that all they can think about is the other. It's one of those songs that makes couples in the audience lean on the other's shoulder or hold their hand tighter. I've seen it happen! We love your strong and unique sound! Are there any other artists that have inspired you over time to create your music the way that you do? Thank you for the kind words! I have been heavily influenced by many Canadian artists and bands. My biggest influence is Raine Maida from Toronto's own Our Lady Peace. "Superman's Dead" was the first song I taught myself on guitar. It was my love for them that influenced me to write my own music. Raine's writing style and singing made me decide to start writing my own tunes. I am also influenced by piano playing, belting singer-songwriters like Chantal Kreviazuk, Sarah McLachlan, and Alanis Morissette. The song “Soy Valiosa” is written entirely in another language. Could you tell us the message behind this song? This song is a Spanish version of my song, I'm Worth It. The song appeared in my last two albums with a message that we can achieve anything we put our minds to and that we are worth our goals and dreams that we desire! I wanted to have this song on my album again and decided to have it translated into another language. My good friend Carla Casanova helped me translate it and also helped with the pronunciation. We know that you have been performing for a long time. Can you tell us how your music style has evolved over time? Great question! My music has evolved over the past decade with different instrumentation, different musicians and experiences that I've gone through. I can now say that my style is becoming closer to hot adult contemporary which is edgy, majestic, and relatable. It's definitely maturing as I am growing up in this industry. We were happy to have you here on BuzzMusic! Your music career has recently been taking off! You won Best Pop Artist at the Mississauga Music Awards, and even came second for NOW Toronto Magazine’s Best Songwriter! Can you tell us about your future plans as an artist, and what we can look forward to from you? I'm so happy to be here on BuzzMusic! Thanks so much for reaching out and all the love! Right now I'm working on new music with my music director, Kevin Dvorak. There's no set date for any new releases so hang tight! In the meantime, I hope listeners enjoy my latest album, Home with You. instagram.com/arleneofficialmusi twitter.com/arlene_paculan facebook.com/arleneofficialmusic #BuzzMusic
- The Catcalls Deliver an Exhilarating Energy In Song “I Get High”
The Catcalls gets the energy pumping in their single titled “I Get High”. This riveting song was a complete smash! The trailblazing instrumentation demonstrated a vast range of rad instrumental playing. One of my personal favorite elements to the melodies through the instruments was the exhilarating and radiant electric guitar. This piercing guitar had a strong demonstration of classic progressive rock and it was dynamic and electrifying! Listening to “I Get High” feels like I was listening to a classic Rock N Roll song that had me headbanging and becoming pumped up with the atmosphere. The drums were rhythmically moving and the vocals were powerful. “I Get High” is a pure representation of great rock music. The vigorous vocals and high-power guitar strumming had us well-intertwined with the single. Another favorite component to “I Get High” was how The Catcalls allowed us to enjoy an entire measure of the electric guitar. It was the perfect bridge to make sure our vibrant energy was at an all-time high! “I Get High” released electric endorphins in our body that had us wanting to come back for more. The Catcalls is most definitely the band to be on the eye for as their music is groundbreaking and exhilarating. You can listen to “I Get High” by The Catcalls here. BuzzMusic welcomes The Catcalls! Tell us a bit about yourselves and how the group formed We're a blues/rock band based in Colorado. The band originally formed in early 2017 and has evolved to its current formation over time. All three of us teach private music lessons in Fort Collins, and we quickly realized how natural it was to play together. We also all studied music and bring a lot of different elements with us. Riley is the primary songwriter, and she's toured as a one-woman band, Dylan and Dave both have degrees in jazz performance, and Dave also plays with a lot of bluegrass bands, but all three of us have played a wide spectrum of genres, from old-time to country to rock & roll, so The Catcalls is a pretty fertile middle ground for us. You have a brand new EP on the way! What sparked the inspiration to create this? The songs all come from different places. For example, "My Stand" comes from the chaos of the Charlottesville protest that unfolded in 2017. The tunes "Bloodhounds" and "I Get High" were songs that Riley wrote, but they were fleshed out by the band. The two reinterpreted covers have become staples in our sets, especially Nina Simone's "Mississippi Goddam" because of how relevant her lyrics still are so many decades later. Your single "I Got High" showcases your bluesy-rock sound perfectly! Tell us about your writing process, do you work collaboratively as a team or bring separate elements to the table Each song is a little different, but it's always a combination of things. Riley does a lot of solo writing, but things always change when it comes to the band. We've also been collaborating more, and we all bring something a little different to the table. It's really great to work as a team with such skilled and creative musicians. If you could collaborate with any artist on your next project, who would it be? Why? There are so many artists, living and dead, that we would love to have the opportunity to collaborate with! One artist that stands out is Janelle Monáe. She is so inventive with her melodies and she writes these gems of songs. It would be a blast to collaborate with her, especially since she would bring such a different sound into the mix. A new EP and music for us in 2020! Can we expect any live shows? Absolutely! We have an incredible show planned for our CD release on January 10th in Fort Collins. We're collaborating with the Sirens of the North aerial dancers as well as Wesoteric, a rapper, and the lighting and laser designers for an incredible show! instagram.com/TheCatcalls facebook.com/TheCatcalls #BuzzMusic

Not much to do there so I came out to LA. Fewer rules, better life. I mean...there's a lot of artists from Ohio. Not many from Cincy but like Kid Cudi, Trippie, Bone Thugs, Hi-Tek are all from Ohio. And Cincinnati has festivals & rap shows DT a lot. I used to every weekend when I was there. Just not enough room to blow. But shout out to Cincinnati & all my friends there! Tell us about your song “Area 51” it resonated well with us here at BuzzMusic. What was the theme for it? Hell Yeah! Glad you guys liked it. Its a wave! And it didn't take much time comin' up with. Marcus Miles & I were just vibing to a couple of beats & landed on that one. Bounced around some ideas until we found that "Yeah we outta here" line. I WAS LIKE THAT'S IT! That set the tone and atmosphere. Then I did my verse and he freestyled the end. I was trying to think of a name and I didn't want it to be a phrase from the track. I was like WE OUTTA HERE! AREA 51! What was the most challenging aspect of creating “Area 51” and how did you overcome the obstacle? It wasn't difficult to make it was just what we do. And I came up with the cover concept. Mason Graham designed it. He's a dope graphic artist from The Bay, check him out. Did you experiment with any new elements in the songwriting or production process for “Area 51”? AREA 51 was mostly a freestyle we made into a single. Definitely proud of it! What’s next for you Johnny Wvlker? What's next? TOOO THE MOOON!! Been formulating my sound & built an arsenal of tracks coming into 2020! I have a creative collective- DEAD POET SOXIETY.. - Anziz Az Combines Comedy With a Unique Music Styling to Create Track "2 Cooks"
Before moving to the United States, comical Hip/Hop artist Anziz Az resided in Porto Novo, Benin. The attribute of Anziz Az's sound that really set him apart from other Hip/Hop artists, at least for us, was his ability to remain consistently funny and modern with his content. He gets inspired by everyday events, little or small, to create soundings that truly contribute to the betterment of the Comedy/Hip-Hop category. He's beginning to make bigger waves within the music community, especially with his recent release of "2 Cooks". The track was inspired by two cooks that Anziz Az worked with, showcasing his versatility in making any average occurrence into a storytelling affair. Let's dive deeper into the specific soundings of "2 Cooks". Pretty soon into "2 Cooks" we're brought into the upbeat and notably catchy vocal outflow from Anziz Az. His vocal performance is very quick, but he does such a good job of balancing the overall dynamic to ensure the track doesn't seem clustered. Anziz Az includes Mariachi components in order to liven up the atmosphere of the track, and he absolutely succeeds in doing so. There seriously wasn't one part of the song where we felt underwhelmed. Anziz Az executed the recording of "2 Cooks" in the best and most fun way possible. With the release of "2 Cooks", Anziz Az truly highlights his capabilities to extend into the world of comical vocalism, while still maintaining that Hip/Hop type feel. It's great, and we were absolutely hooked in. Give a listen for yourself to see! You can find "2 Cooks" by Anziz Az here. Hi there Anziz Az! Great to have you here on BuzzMusic, and congratulations on the release of "2 Cooks"! How was the process of creating this track, especially considering you added elements of comedy within? Do you think adding those elements takes the creative process longer than usual to construct a song? First: Thanks for the opportunity BuzzMusic! Everything always starts with the production honestly! I always try to incorporate new instruments to hip hop which this time is the Accordion and automatically once done I thought about who are the people I know use it the most and in my experience is the Mariachis from Mexico. And since my music character is a chef I had to blend in with it and try to make it as funny as possible cause one of the best ways to people's hearts is memes. I then decided to get the right vocalist which is T-Diamonds this time cause he's one of the funniest musical talented I know! I dm him that I just wanna do some funny Mexican cooks dancing song and sent him the beats. Surprising It's actually ended up being one of the quickest songs I ever worked on cause he walked in the studio with no lyrics and nailed the song in 32mins. youtu.be/129XVkmP9Nc What would you say has been your earliest memory regarding music? Would you say that your home life shaped the way you express your sound today? My main earliest memory of music will definitely be that one Lex Luger video my uncle showed me in 2011 that made me fell in love with the process of creating. Before that I was just a fan of all music mainly considering where I'm from we consume all genres from Traditional, Latino vibes, French zouks, to trap and so one! What really shape my sound is the idea of setting a trend in hip hop! Bring that new instrument that no one has ever used in hip hop like the Accordion on 2 Cooks, the Balafon on Bildine's DCA; The glasses on High-End Middle III; I have a whole instrument long list I go through every time to produce to find that magic that will bring something unfamiliar to the game. "2 Cooks" was bustling and incredibly fun to listen to! Your live shows must be an absolute blast. Tell us more about your performances, and what the energy feels like in the venue? Unfortunately, we still have not had a chance to perform 2 Cooks but considering the power of entertaining of T-Diamonds you could already imagine what 2 cooks will be on stage! We working on it and hope to make it happen soon. As you said I know people waiting to see it, we probably will bring the whole kitchen on stage who knows! haha Now that 2019 is quickly coming to an end, are you planning on creating any more tracks for the new year? Yes! 2 Cooks was not actually part of my plan to end this year cause we in a cuffin season and 2 cooks is more like a summer anthem! I was working on a cuffin season with a talented Chrxstal Sarah but we put in on pause for timing reason, and then 2 Cooks pop up out of nowhere in my mind and I know I just have to bring into life! We're thankful you took the time to talk us through your music! We hope to hear more from you. For now, where do you think your artistry is heading and/or transforming for the year to come? It's my pleasure to be here and have this conversation with you, I'm extremely grateful for this! For this 2020 year, my goal is to continue what I'm doing but more than I did in 2019! I'm hoping to drop one song/video every month with totally different artists compare to the 4 I released this year! For the ones that were with me, support me, listened to my songs and watched my videos, I can promise you we bring a totally different dimension of creativity again in 2020! Thanks for the love! instagram.com/AzDuSaAl twitter.com/AzDuSaAl dusaal.com #BuzzMusic

It was like I was both trying to explain how I felt and understand it myself at the same time. If you could collaborate with any artist, who and why? Andre 3000 hands down. He's always been one my favorite artist and I think we would make something pretty epic. What's next for Money Mike as we enter a new year? I grew up in Trinidad so that really shaped the way I make music. I got a lot of people always asking me why I always speak about the violent shit and to be honest, it’s just part of my life, I want my music to be like an open book of me and if all I’ve seen and been through has been violent then that’s majority of what you’ll read from that book you feel me? How would you describe the meaning behind the lyrics in “Domestic Policy”? The songwriting was immaculate! Lol blessings fam! To be honest it was just me and my dawg just sitting down tryna piece together how his road life in Toronto and how mine has been in Trinidad and the way we vibe it was just natural the way it came together. It’s really us speaking on the shit we did or happened around us you know, it’s like a voice for our environment. What was the biggest challenge you faced in the creation of “Domestic Policy”? Honestly, it was just finding that right time between me and my friend Chainz to actually go in there and lay it down because we really be on go all the time so finding a time that we were both free was a blessing and we took full advantage of it How would you describe the music video process in “Domestic Policy” It was my first music video so I didn’t know what I was supposed to be expecting but it turned out pretty good and when the camera was on it was like we already knew what to do so the process went through smoothly What has been the most monumental moment of your 2019 and why? To be honest it was really just looking at all the love I’ve gotten off this rap thing and the money that’s yet to be made you know and in no way am I just doing this for the money but like it’s different when you get paid for doing something you love rather than getting paid while trying to learn how to love it you feel me? And I get hit up by people every day who rock with me on a consistent basis and they tell me don’t stop for no one so it just lets me know I could do bigger in the year to come and I will. I got an EP I’m working on to drop in March and a whole lotta videos and shows so you know this year was the first step into my future you get me? I’m not rushing any I’ll take my time with it because as fast as you go up, you’ll come down and I just wanna learn slowly from everything I experience. instagram.com/its_elviiiis #BuzzMusic
- Wild Ire Lays It Down With New Song “Dirty Hands”
From Salem, OR, we have this funky masterpiece delivered by Wild Ire with their new song “Dirty Hands”. This song has every element of talent and fantastic songwriting! The song starts off with a groovy drum beat that then quickly introduces what sounds like the funkiest bass lick of the year, but also well-timed and placed. The vocal delivery in “Dirty Hands” is brought to us by lead singer Jacob Mayes and it’s served up fresh! The song “Dirty hands” is an overall feel-good track, with endorphin popping melodies and musical performances. Vocally, Jacob can be described as a high pitched singer who has incredible range but cannot be directly compared to any other singers, really. But, honestly, I’m sure that is just fine with this one of a kind band! The second verse, Jacob almost starts rapping, the super-fast vocals just prove how talented this guy is! The guitar work is also super funky and compliments everything else that is happening with this song. The production is also amazing, whoever produced and mixed this track can definitely be praised up and down, and I’m sure it is playing a significant role in helping develop the sound of Wild Ire. By the end of “Dirty Hands”, you are definitely ready for more by Wild Ire! Make sure you listen to these guys today and follow them on social media for updates. Listen to "Dirty Hands" here. Thanks for being with us today at Buzz Music Wild Ire! “Dirty Hands” has a lot of funk influence on it! Who would you say are some artists that sonically influenced what you’re doing? When creating the song it mainly started out as a jam of the main guitar riff. There’s a lot of jazz within the chord structure. When it came to the drumming we really wanted to emulate that James Brown funk aspect his drummers would give; along with a modern twist on lo-fi beats that we’re big fans of. Who is the producer of "Dirty Hands" and do you feel like they have an impact on your sound and songwriting? We don’t have a producer. We have an engineer that we work with. His name is Jason Carter of wavelength studios he has recorded and mixed a majority of our records. He’s come to know our sound and thoughts on where we like to take our music. In that sense, he’s become very much an honorary part of the band. Vocally, where did you find the influence to lay down an almost rap part in the second verse? There is a lot of hip hop influence on the vocal aspect. A majority of our lyrics are written by our guitar player Jesse who paints usually a vague emotion-driven picture. With this one, the lyrics were written by Jake our lead vocalist. He had very much a clear cut story for Dirty Hands. Something where the listener could gravitate towards. If you guys could work with any other artist, who would it be and why? We have a list of artists that we’d love to work with. One of our biggest influences as a band is Incubus. A majority of the mass knows that band for their hit records. But, they are very much like us, in the aspect of genre-bending. Polyphia is a great artist we would love to collaborate with along with Maroon 5. Our sounds really bounce off a lot of the edges of these bands with our own touch. When can we expect more new music from you? What's next for Wile Ire in 2020? New music is coming soon! And very soon in fact. We don’t want to get too ahead of ourselves but you can most likely expect a full record in the upcoming future. Think maybe spring or summertime to hear some more Wild Ire. As for the next year, we go to NAMM in January which will be one of our first big trips as a band to another state. Which we hope in the next year to continue. More music, videos and bigger shows await! instagram.com/wildireoffical facebook.com/wildireband twitter.com/wildireofficial #BuzzMusic
- Goodnight Kiss Bring Us the Amazing New Track “Too Late” and We Can't Get Enough of It
If you’re from the LA music scene, you may recognize Goodnight Kiss - as they were selected by KCRW’s Anne Lott was one of LA’s best new indie bands of 2017! Today, they bring us their new song “Too Late” and we understand why they receive the praise that they do. “Too Late” starts off with a simple, but yet totally catchy & cutting guitar riff. After that, you have introduced the elements of drums, bass, and synth. The vocals kick in around the 30-second mark with grabbing melodies that suck you completely into the world of Goodnight Kiss. The song creates its own atmosphere and that is where you will find yourself as a listener in this song. The lyrics are simple, but again, cutting. It seems to be the theme for these indie rockers in Goodnight Kiss - spelling out to all listeners that less is more, in all aspects. Musically, it can be compared to MUSE, The Smashing Pumpkins, and Radiohead, which are all 3 iconic influences in the indie/ rock scene. The vocal delivery is unreal, allowing their singer to appear larger than life and not even human. The song carries the same riffs and melodies but even after 3 and a half minutes, you aren’t annoyed but rather completely tuned into what Goodnight Kiss is offering with “Too Late”. This song is incredibly catchy! So, please be careful as it will 100% be stuck in your head all day. Listen to “Too Late” today on all streaming platforms and see for yourself what these amazing indie rockers are all about. Listen to "Too Late" here. Hey Goodnight Kiss! Thanks for taking the time to speak with us at Buzz Music! “Too Late” is a repetition of a song but never gets old. Was this a conscious effort and how did you approach a minimal song like this? Hey Buzz Music! Thank you for having us. Our writing process is usually to start with a riff or groove and build with the goal of finding hooks while keeping the overall song structure simple enough for the hooks to stand out. In the case of “Too Late,” our singer Wes brought a pretty baked demo of the song to rehearsal and we took it to new levels from there. At the core, we wanted to combine Too Late’s heartbreak lyrics with an upbeat dance groove that has us hopeful for the future. Life goes on, and it’s important to keep dancing! Who is the producer that was selected for the job on “Too Late” and was this your first time working with them? We were lucky enough to work with Bo Bodnar at EastWest Studios – who has produced or engineered a ton of amazing bands like Tenacious D, Belle and Sebastian, and Slipknot. He helped us out with our demos a while back, but to work with him in a studio-like EastWest was an incredible experience. Bo brought in the amazingly talented Diego Ruelas to mix the album, who absolutely crushed it as well. How do you feel like your brand of indie rock music helps you stand out in a city such as Los Angeles? LA has so many great bands that it’s really difficult to stand out amongst our peers. So our philosophy is to write good songs, play the best shows we can, and – above all – don’t be assholes. Support local bands, engage with our fans on a personal level (not just to get Instagram followers), and hope that people connect with our music. Anything beyond that is a bonus. Honestly, we’re just a bunch of guys who love to write, play, and laugh. We think this shows up in our music and performances. It’s up to the audience to decide if it works for them. What have been some of the most defining moments of your career so far? A few standout moments are opening for Blind Melon earlier this year, @PatrickReza creating a dubstep remix of our song “Better Days” which exposed us to fans of a completely different genre, and having our debut Abandon Ship EP selected by a panel of KCRW’s Anne Litt, Lord Huron’s Mark Berry, and Bauhaus’s David J. as the winner of the 2017 Indie Soul contest. That said, we’re looking to expand and reach new heights, and we plan to add more defining moments to the list! When and where can fans see you live next? Our next show is at The Tavern in Ventura on December 20th, and we’re always booking shows in the area. Follow us @goodnightkissband and check out our website (goodnightkissband.com) for info on releases, show schedule, and booking info.
