  • BuzzMusic Exclusive: The Year of Matteson Gregory

This year has been the year Matteson Gregory has been waiting for since she wrote her first song at the age of 12. The pop artist decided that 2019 would be the year she made her dreams a reality. Her debut single “Comfortable” is a beautifully charming pop single that comes with exciting visuals that give Matteson’s fans an honest look at her life. She has a charisma and aura about her that's contagious and affects anyone who hears her wonderful music. Her debut single was released in May and garnered nothing but success. This encouraged Matteson Gregory to release her most recent single “Stayed!”, early in October. Not only has she been releasing music this year, but she has been playing various gigs and special events including the “You Matter Festival”, an event to promote mental health awareness Matteson Gregory is an up and coming pop artist from Branson, MO. Growing up surrounded by music, Matteson owes her passion for music to her father’s band experience, her grandparent's karaoke parties, and of course her notable influences of Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran. With plans for more new music and live shows, Matteson Gregory is the one to watch going into 2020! Listen to Matteson Gregory’s music here! Hey Matteson, welcome back! We're completely captivated by your sound, you have such a strong and warming presence throughout your tracks. Can you tell us more about your intentions when you first began to curate your recent release “Stayed!"? This release was completely different than "Comfortable" because going into the studio "Stayed!" wasn't even a lyric. "Stayed!" was literally written in the studio one day and then recorded the next. I was sitting in the studio with Sean Rogers and Forrest Finn just talking about my life and then Forrest started playing the guitar and it just came to be from there. It was a lot of testing out different instruments and sounds and I simply fell in love with what we came up with. You've had such a strong love and passion for music at such a young age! How do you think you and your music have grown since you first started writing when you were 12, versus now? My music has changed so much because I've changed and grown so much. When I started writing I was at that age where I was still trying to figure out who I was. Especially when it came to figuring out who I was as an artist. Of course I've always written about my life but as I've gotten older I've experienced more that's allowed me to grow and figure out who I am. Long story short when I was 12 I was aiming to be a country singer and now I have figured out that I am a pop singer-songwriter. And I think where I am right now is exactly where I need to be. “Stayed!” seemed much more vulnerable than your debut “Comfortable. Is this something your listeners can expect in the future from your music? For sure! Of course I'll have love songs and fun songs but I have gone through so much over the past two years that have really made an impact on my writing. What I decide to release will be what I feel like is right for me to release at that time. We know that you're a lover of integrating a variety of elements in your music. Would you ever incorporate contrasting genres into your music, or do you think it would ruin the type of sound you're attempting to reach? I would love to incorporate other genres but I feel like where my career is right now it isn't the right time. I'm just now starting to release music and I want to make sure I establish my sound first before I start putting a banjo in or harmonica in the background. Do you have any plans to release a loner project in the future? I've always thought about that but I don't have any current plans. Some of my songs I've thought about releasing an acoustic version of but that's still up in the air. I guess you'll have to wait and see. It was great having you here on BuzzMusic! Tell us more about what's next for you after this? Any shows in the near future? As of right now I'm focusing on writing more music and booking more shows for next year! I would love to expand and step outside of Missouri for a few shows so I'm looking into venues for that. I will also for sure be recording and releasing more music! I'm honestly really excited about what's to come! instagram.com/mattesongregory #BuzzMusic

  • New Music Monday: “I Was Meant To Love” From 19-Year-Old Acoustic Artist Leon C

Leon C is a talented singer/songwriter and musician with over 10 years of experience playing the guitar. Leon C transitioned into songwriting in more recent years and has since released a debut album and has toured through summer 2018 and 2019. His drive and ambition are unmatched as the young up and comer Leon pulls inspirations from legends like Bob Dylan, Kevin Morby, and Townes Van Zandt. Leon has found himself with an ever-growing fan base and has garnered much success over the years. He shows no signs of slowing down with his new single “I Was Meant To Love” available now! “I Was Meant To Love” is an introspective song that extremely close to Leon’s heart. It explores Leon’s emotions and growth as a person and artist, leaving him feeling unsure of his identity. The overall sentiments and organic nature of the song balance perfectly with one another. Listeners will find comfort in the accessible and well-relateable themes of engaging content. Leon pours his heart and soul into every corner of this song. He fuses fine musicianship with inspiring lyrics, all while delivering a spectacular vocal line. “I Was Meant To Love” is a deeply personal and vulnerable track, something we look forward to seeing more of from Leon! Listen to Leon C's new single “I Was Meant To Love” here. Welcome to BuzzMusic Leon! It’s such a pleasure to feature your new song “I Was Meant To Love”. For our readers who are unfamiliar with your work, how would you describe your sound and approach to songwriting? Hello! Bold of you to think I know my sound! For this single we were not working with your normal rock and roll format, lots of orchestral arrangement and texture making as opposed to your standard drums, bass, and lead. But we’ll see how things change, my sound is barely standing still, it's changing as I grow, as I get more influences and hear more sounds. I try not to limit myself; I fear I’ll lose my authenticity. All my successful songwriting has always been done in a moment of inspiration, whether that’s an idea on the guitar or a lyric. Pretty much as you’d expect a song to be written. Then its just a case of getting it down in chord structure and words, recording a demo, grabbing a drink and then coming back and seeing if it’s rubbish or not. If I like it, then I’ll keep it, or at least until it goes out of fashion in my head later down the line. We’re swooning over the beauty of “I Was Meant To Love”, it’s very personal. What emotions were you feeling in order to create this song? How you have persevered through those emotions and challenges? I wrote it in November of 2018 when I had just moved to uni. I was living in university halls, was struggling with independent living and had sort of forced myself into situations regarding dating and relationships. Since my time at sixth form (ages 16-18) I had felt an irrational need to be with someone, have the company of someone, and have someone there to love and be loved back. By the time I reached university, I had gotten myself into a paradox where I felt I couldn’t make anything work (I was obviously forcing it) and I felt alone and abnormal. This song then sort of poured out on a lonely night and voila. I don’t think there was much to get through it, I fell in love and had a very fulfilling relationship soon after. It ended in a calm rational manner but the general kindness of it and the feeling of real love broke the stigma I’d built in my head. At only 19 years old you’ve really established your sound and vibe as an artist. How do you feed your passion for music every day? What continues to inspire you? Thank you, a kind compliment. I have a stupid, sometimes quite unhealthy drive for it. I don’t want to glorify it; I think I need to look after myself better and would prefer people not to copy it or be cursed with the blessing that I have. I think at the end of the day I want to write and want my art to be seen and heard. The music and prose I write is so painfully me and I just want to show it to people, it frees the subjects sung about from me. Also playing and recording just gives me the most liberating feeling. Whether on my own in my bedroom, or in front of a crowd, it just feels good. Also, as an artist, you can make something gorgeous however you want, and nothing else in this world can give me that. I guess that’s why I’m addicted. Inspiration has been coming from all angles, mainly new music I discover, also life. The worlds in a state too. A scary one. That’s a good reason to write. What are some of your ultimate goals as an artist? Are any of these goals currently being put into place/being worked on? For now, the ultimate goal is to do it full time. I don’t want to think too far ahead. Just get my head down and do my best to do what I’m in love with as a profession. I guess working on that goal is to keep doing what I’m doing. That’s things like this with you, playing gigs and making more music. Also just keeping my mind open and learning more about how the industry works. It was great having you here on BuzzMusic! Tell us more about what's next for you after this song release? Any shows in the near future?! Thanks for having me! The single is stand alone. No EP or Album to follow I’m afraid, but something for people to feast their ears on in the meantime, there’ll be longer releases soon. I’m always playing shows. They are listed on all my socials, my website and on the streaming platforms that list them. All UK based and mainly in Birmingham, Southampton, and Winchester. I hope to tour the UK again this summer though. facebook.com/leoncmusic instagram.com/leoncmusic twitter.com/leoncmusic #BuzzMusic

  • Texas-based artist E Philz flawlessly blends genres with “That Half Bounce”

Making his name known out of Austin, Texas, E Philz is an electronic music artist who has been making original beats and loops since the early 2000s. Just recently E Philz made his catalog of music available to the public. He blends a soulful mix of R&B, hip-hop, and jazz-inspired beats. E Philz says his music is “an audio representation of the mood he was feeling at the time it was created.” Stay on the lookout for E Philz, he has plans to release a couple of projects every year going forward. “That Half Bounce” is featured on E Philz’s album “Mindfux Vol. 2: Another Collection”. There is a certain brightness and immediate beauty to the way the strings and the keys intertwine for this journey through rising and falling moments of melody. The title adds a level of crisp, clean air – a freshness that allows the music to breathe life and calm into the room. This particular balance of elements is immensely powerful, proving to be truly uplifting and invigorating when you turn it up loud and let it rain down around you. Things come to a rather striking finish with the melancholic sense of falling or fading. This feels like an intimate end to the journey, a quiet and gentle performance, right there in the room with you. Check out “That Half Bounce” here and read more with E Philz below! Welcome to BuzzMusic! It’s such a pleasure to chat with you You’ve had a really incredible year! What would you say you’re the proudest of? I’m the proudest of being able to create something that people genuinely enjoy listening to which I made not specifically to reach any genre of touch any particular market but just as a reflection of my inner self. How did you initially begin making music? What inspired you in the early 2000s to get started? In the 90s-early 2000s I was a rapper. During times I couldn’t find beats that had the energy I needed, I decided to create them myself, on a friend’s drum machine and 4 track recording device. In 2000 I attended the University of Texas at El Paso, where I took Intro to commercial music & learned how to make music digitally. “Electronic” music. “That Half Bounce” is a great new track but it seems to have a meaningful sound to it. Can you tell us more about this song in particular? Do you remember the emotions you were channeling when you created it? I created “That Half Bounce” when reminiscing about being on tour with Dom Kennedy, Jay 305, and Polyester The Saint. Being on the road with them felt like I was with family and I wanted that West Coast, cool, laid back feel. How do you begin crafting a new song? How do you know when it’s truly done and ready for the public? I normally begin a new song because I already have a drum pattern, or baseline in my head. Sometimes it’s a guitar riff, or piano pattern. I play it, listen, & find sounds, whether loops, or playing new sounds, to compliment the main instrument. I know when it’s true when I put it on and my son’s head bops. Kids are brutally honest when it comes to sounds. Thank you for talking with us once again! What can you tell us about your upcoming release? Thank you for the opportunity! I can tell you that on this next release I didn’t use any loops or samples at all. I played every sound, every instrument & even attempted to cross genres. You’ll have to listen to find out which ones. www.instagram.com/ephilz730 #BuzzMusi

  • Margot White’s EP “I Saw It On The Radio” is Out Now!

Texas-born Margot White just released her much-anticipated EP “I Saw It On the Radio” featuring her new single “Face to Face” and an impressive music video by Alpha Bravo Studios to match. Margot White is a master at scene-setting and building intensity, and the opening track to “I Saw It On The Radio” titled “Face to Face” reminds you of all of this, and showcases a mighty step higher on the creative and professional spectrum. Margot’s voice sounds wonderful, mildly raspy and organic, contrasting nicely with the smooth, retro, keyboard-like tones of the soundscape. “Face to Face” utilizes intrigue incredibly well. A mysterious and enchanting piece, loaded with imagery and compelling references, balancing outward observations with personal, intimate thoughts and questions. You feel the need to witness something visual with this song and luckily, the music video captures all of these elements flawlessly. We can’t say it enough, Margot’s voice is beautiful transcending through the alternative and experimental nature of the music and the songwriting to skillfully bridge the gap and appeal on a deeply human, honest level. This is a song worth revisiting a few times over. Easy and enjoyable to have played, yet loaded with depth and insight. Listen to “Face to Face” here and read more in our interview with Margot White below! It's a pleasure to feature your new music. Do you believe that the way you intend to communicate your messages through your music is easily received by your listeners? Yes and no.  I think music videos help a lot with this actually and making the video for Face to Face was where I realized this.  Where my lyrics can sometimes be a bit mysterious or enigmatic, it is really nice to be able to have an image presenting the audience with a point of reference, whether through the choice of outfits or set design or time of day.  But I deeply value the concept of being able to deliver quite complex ideas with very few words.  All of my favourite songwriters are gifted in this way, and it is so powerful in terms of causing people to feel something special. I think that is a real litmus test for anyone serious about songwriting. “Face to Face" was an incredibly dreamy and hypnotic track. Where did you draw the inspiration to create this particular type of sound? What was the overall concept of the music video? It definitely all started on a bus ride back to London from Glastonbury.  It was very late at night and I was listening to a Tom Petty track about heartbreak, and just kind of floating in between an imaginary world in my head and real-life — which is where most of my songs usually happen— and something about feeling a little bit nauseous from sitting way up at the top of the bus with my face against a cold window and watching these long streaks of rain beating against the glass just sort of made something happen.  I guess it was that sense of looking out into the darkness from inside a bright, warm space as well, that can feel quite alien-like you are in outerspace on this wild journey. So I guess lyrically, the song is a commentary on a relationship where one person is trying to reach the other, but they are just on different levels.  But sonically it really embodies a more universal aesthetic I am really naturally drawn to.  I liken it almost to a siren call, or music of faerie realms, or the harmony of the spheres in the sense that I am always hearing these other frequencies and pulses, and it is a matter of figuring how to communicate them. How would you say that "Face to Face" compares to the kind of music you curated when you first started out as an artist? Wow.  It’s funny because in a way it is exactly the same as what was in my head when I first started out, I just didn’t have the tools and skills to realise that sound yet.  But also, I do notice sometimes I really enjoy just sticking with an acoustic guitar and really lo-fi vocals and letting the story tell itself in a really naked way. You’re an extremely gifted songwriter so it was no surprise to us that you also write poetry! Tell us more about the poetry book you just released? Thank you very much.  I’m so pleased about the poetry book.  It is titled The Fortune of a Fairy,  The book itself combines some of the lyrics from the EP I just released in October, like Electric Wolf, along with more structured, traditional pieces that follow specific themes of esotericism, love, mystery and mythology.  The poetry strongly references a lot of my influences: Shelley, Keats, Gertrude Stein, Euripides, Homer, Virgil, Dante, Sappho, Rumi, Kahlil Gibran, e.e. cummings, Langston Hughes, Walt Whitman, Countee Cullen, Sylvia Plath, Siegfried Sassoon, Owen Wilson, Robert Frost; joyfully, this list is a somewhat endless fount.  The title of the book itself is meant to reference the fairytales and folklore I have been influenced by as well.  It always surprises me how timeless their structures are in offering insights into the archetypal structures of society and personal psychology. The book is now available on my website, but I will be offering signed limited editions at the Launch Party, Salon de Beats, November 15 at Sixty Sixty Sounds on Denmark Street in London. It was awesome to be able to present "Face to Face" here on BuzzMusic! What do you think is next for you as an artist? Where do you hope to progress within the next couple of years? Thank you again for having me, it was a real pleasure.  I am really excited because I am already trying new things, and have just done my first gig with a full band.  We’re already lining up more UK gigs and I definitely foresee some international touring taking shape.  I am excited to see what it is like to be in different places and seeing what different people are into musically.  Basically I am ready to be touring the world and just writing top hits left and right, ha. I’m so wild about being able to wake up every day and work at what I love, so honestly just continuing on this path would bring me a great deal of joy. I love collaborating with other songwriters and artists, and I look forward to continuing to work with the very talented producer, Francesco Marseglia as well.  We already have a new track taking shape that I am just crazy about. Additionally, I have recently been turned on to Johnny Greenwood’s work as a composer, and I cannot wait to compose my first film score, as soundtracks have always been a strong source of fascination for me. www.instagram.com/margot__white #BuzzMusic

  • Fan Favorite: Hatty Keane is Back with “Digital Love”

Cinematic soul songstress Hatty Keane is swiftly making her name known across the UK and indeed throughout North America. With a consistent string of singles released throughout 2019, she is the artist to watch. Her poetic lyrics, soulful vocals, and engaging themes of real-life experiences make her a force to be reckoned with. Hatty’s new single “Digital Love” takes a brief step away from the high energy aura we’ve seen before, we see her adopt a classic soul/pop vibe that feels nostalgically inspired by the nineties for its softness, space, and melodic development. As always throughout Hatty Keane’s songs, the songwriting speaks for itself. The blissful melody helps tell a story that captivates, and the simple organic set-up compliments and reinforces this progression flawlessly. “Digital Love” gathers momentum throughout, resulting in spiraling chaos of energy and optimism during the final third. The hook circles around you, repeating and building up more every time while it sinks in quickly, leaving you singing along in an instant, and even considering the poetic depth underneath it all. This is something of a humble yet effective hit of songwriting, recorded in true Hatty Keane fashion, but offering something refreshing that showcases a whole other side to the soulful singer/songwriter. Check out “Digital Love” here and read more with Hatty Keane below! Hey Hatty Keane! Welcome back to BuzzMusic, we're excited we get to talk about your latest single "Digital Love"! Are you happy with how the song was produced in the end? Yes, I feel it combines elements of both retro soul and blues with modern epic energy. "Digital Love" is an undeniably captivating song. Where did you draw your inspiration from in order to create this track? The track is about our obsession with phones and social media and how our relationships are suffering in this digital age because we are no longer talking we are texting. Your music always seems to light up the room and lift an audience up just when they need it! Was it your intention to be this kind of optimistic artist, or is it something that simply comes naturally for you? I would actually say I'm the opposite! My music usually talks about the suffering of some kind and has a darkness to it but I suppose that could be uplifting in the way that I am strong in my delivery in the face of these bad things I tend to write about! What would you say is the most useful piece of criticism you’ve received thus far within your career? Do you typically take criticism to your advantage? In the early days, my voice got a few bad comments which pushed me to be a complete perfectionist with it and learn everything I could about it. It was a treat being able to showcase “Digital Love” on BuzzMusic! We can’t wait to see what else you have in store for us as listeners! What’s the next goal for you artistically within the music world, now that you’ve just released a new single? EP early 2020 and getting out live. www.instagram.com/hattykeane #BuzzMusic

  • Catching Up With Multi-Talented Artist Ibby VK!

Ibby VK is a 24-year-old pop, folk, R&B, and acoustic singer/songwriter. The Dubai native originally was in school for chemical engineering but he soon realized his true passion, making music. His styles range from topics like your standard love ballad to self-acceptance, signature break-up songs, and death. Not only is he an incredible writer but he prides himself on his simplistic approach to live performances. When on stage you’ll find him with his guitar, his loop pedal, and not much else except his charisma and alluring stage presence. This year, Ibby VK has been hard at work in the studio perfecting his brand new EP “One Man Nation”. The EP features two previously released singles “Where We Belong”, which has accumulated over 250k streams on Spotify alone, and “Fire In Me” which was previously featured on BuzzMusic and is still one of our favorite uplifting anthems to this day! Ibby VK is driven and ambitious and never shows signs of slowing down. His new EP “One Man Nation” includes three new original songs including “How To Mend A Broken Heart”. This song is a beautiful ballad from Ibby VK. It’s evident that he poured his heart and soul into this release. The emotive lyrics provide a step-by-step guide to pick yourself up after heartbreak and it’s uplifting and spectacular to the core. We always look forward to more from Ibby VK! Who has had the biggest influence on your life musically thus far? Can you describe the impact this particular individual has had in terms of your song “How To Mend A Broken Heart”? I believe that no one will ever have as big an influence on your music as yourself, followed by the producer(s) you work with, who for me are Rayan Bailouni in Dubai and Andy & Sean in Abu Dhabi. As for HTMABH in particular though, it was written years ago when I was a huge fan of  The Script, but when I started to record it, I wanted to go in a more acoustic or stripped down the path for this particular song. What are some of your ultimate goals as an artist? Are any of these goals currently being put into place/being worked on? If we are talking long term goals then those would definitely include breaking the international records and becoming a top-selling / streaming artist globally. But in order to achieve your long term goals, you need to set short term goals and hit those first, which I have been doing consistently, and I am very thankful for that. We absolutely love your latest release! What predominant message was integrated within "One Man Nation"? Can you tell us more about the concept of the EP as a whole? Thank you so much, that is kind of you. well the name of the EP comes from the lyrics of one of the singles "Fire In Me" which is about to reach 100K streams on Spotify as of now, and it goes "I've got no inspiration, except these tears and One Man Nation, looking back at me, and I see, this Fire In Me" and that is what I wanted the EP to represent; an independent artist that has had no guidance or help whatsoever, but instead chose to do everything himself and invest in his own job before anyone else even cared. There is also a flip side to it, as I always perform solo at live shows no matter how big or small, no backing tracks, dancers, gimmicks, etc.. and I wouldn't have it any other way, even when I am being constantly told that it will never work or amount to anything. You seem to be an artist that puts more thought into their lyrics than most. What can you tell us about the lyrical depth within your most recent singles? Thank you for noticing. I do really care about lyrics more than anything, which might not be what the majority of people care for these days, but they are the most integral and key part of any song to me. The lyrics on the EP vary so much, from "Where We Belong" which is a conversation between a dying man and the Angel of Death, to "Fire In Me" which I talked about previously, and HTMABH which I wrote as a guide and a comforting message to anyone with a freshly broken heart, or scars of one, in order to get over those feelings that can be very dangerous if bottled up and not dealt with. Every song has to be a story, and it is my duty to try and make it a good one. Thank you so much for talking with us about your new EP and creative process. Can you describe how your performances feel? Do you enjoy live shows, or do you prefer the actual songwriting process? Also, any live shows coming up in the near future?! Yeah plenty, I have some big projects and shows I am currently working on as well as hopefully a tour around Europe if all goes well. But for now, most of my live shows will be taking place in the MENA region, mostly Dubai and Abu Dhabi, etc... I love the songwriting process as that is what I have always wanted to do for a living, but live shows are where all the fun is at for me. I always tell people that I know I am not the best singer, songwriter, guitarist, loop artist, or whatever other things you want to call me, but I will always be damn sure to give you a show you will never forget. I want whoever buys a ticket to one of my shows to always get their money's worth and then some. A fan is investing their time and money in an artist, the least that artist can do is to earn that respect and give it back. instagram.com/ibbyvk youtube.com/IbbyVK soundcloud.com/ibbyvk/sets/one-man-nation #BuzzMusic

  • For fans of Post-Hardcore/Rock, check out “Careless” by Hibernator

Hibernator is a post-hardcore/rock band hailing from Montana. After garnering some success through their self-titled EP, Hibernator went to work with producer Stephan Hawkes to revamped their sound the gain success outside the state of Montana. With the release of their second EP, Hibernator is fast becoming one of the most interesting and engaging rock bands to emerge during this re-igniting of the genre. Nothing speaks more in favor of that than this latest EP release “Empty”. We had the pleasure of checking out “Careless”, off the EP “Empty” produced by Stephan Hawkes. Rich with sludgy guitars and pounding drums, the music of “Careless” sounds fantastic. It ebbs and flows, and easily has one of the best breakdowns of 2019. “Careless” brings hard rock and metal vibe, and story-telling intertwined in a memorable fashion. “Careless” feels like a fresh approach to the genre and another chance to connect with the band behind the music. “Careless” is likely to leave the story and ideas lingering in your mind long after listening. This is categorically a song to be experienced at volume. The realness that emerges with each conversation and recording on the project seems insanely authentic. Absolutely worth listening! We can’t wait to catch a live show in the future! Listen to “Careless” here and read more with the band in our interview! Welcome to BuzzMusic Hibernator! It’s such a pleasure to feature your music! How would describe the music scene in your hometown for your specific genre? Thank you, we’re very excited to be interviewed and have this spotlight! I think I would have to say our music scene in Montana is very spread out across the state, but extremely consistent. The people that come to the shows in every city seem to be excited to see you. As we technically all live in a different area of this large state, we like to say our “hometown” is really the Butte/Helena area. We loved checking out “Careless”! What can you tell us about the creative process and inspiration of this particular track? I think originally when we started working on that song, I wanted it to be set around “feeling used” it’s very common for people to feel used, or even use it as an excuse to feel bad for yourself. When writing the lyrics Anthony, Zach, and I really sat down and tried to tie it all together well. As well as make it work with the melodies we were planning to use. Hibernator is a band that definitely stays away from the norms of mainstream music in its lyrics! What overall concept does “Empty” hold? What do you hope your listeners take away from it? I think I spent the majority of the writing process wanting to focus on very general “mental health” issues within relationships, society, and things I experienced myself through the band. Most of what we were writing about were things we have experienced or in some way tried to relate to. As it was the three of us trying to write the lyrics collectively, whether through metaphor, or a literal experience. We can imagine that your performances are incredibly energetic with the sound you have! Have you performed anywhere, and if so, how is the vibe in your crowd? Yes, the crowd seems very involved, so the vibe is pretty energetic. People tend to come up after the show stating the music was very catchy and entertaining. We recently did a west coast tour, and a lot of the shows had a similar energy. People were moving with us and seemed focused on what we’re doing on stage while also mirroring our movements. Thank you so much for chatting with us! We’re looking forward to hearing more and hopefully catching a live show in the future! Do you have any events or shows you’d like to talk about? Right now just a slew of shows in our home state, but we’re hoping to hit the road again early next year. Hoping to travel more through the west coast and expand into the Midwest and eventually East coast. www.instagram.com/hibernatormt #BuzzMusic

We became friends, and later discovered we were both making music independently. A mutual friend got us in the studio and we ended up making music together, but as a larger group (usually 4/5 people on a song).  After a couple of songs everyone kept telling us we should do something just us two, we stuck out with talent and of course our looks. With many years of making music, we would have to imagine your sound has changed and evolved with time. How would you say your music now compares to the music you curated when you first started out in the music industry? I feel as if before we would strictly make rap music. We were just focused on spitting bars. But as the years went on we learned how to create songs. When I say that I mean catchy hooks, melodies, things like that but still provide bars with it. We absolutely love your latest release! What was the writing/recording process like for “Twerk Til Yo Back Hurt”? We simply wanted to make a song that would make the girls run to the dance floor when they hear the Dj play it. A fun song that brings the naughty side out of a girl. You seem to be an artist that puts more thought into their lyrics than most. What can you tell us about the lyrical depth within your EP “Underestimated Overachievers”? All I can simply say is we naturally come with the bars. That’s how we create. Bars are what make it what it is. Metaphors are a must. We love to put some actual thinking in our music. Thank you so much for talking with us about your new singles and creative process. Can you describe how your performances feel? Do you enjoy live shows, or do you prefer the actual songwriting process? Also, any live shows coming up in the near future? Our performances are always high energy and good vibes. Whether there are 5 people in the audience or in 1000. We like to involve the crowd in what we do. We love to give them experience. www.instagram.com/bigrunts #BuzzMusic

  • Catching Up With Mama Cleo And Her New Jazz-Inspired Sound

Based out of both Los Angeles and New York City, Mama Cleo is a soulful pop artist with an explosive flare. She combines emotional lyrics with confident, sultry vocals. As both an artist and woman, Mama Cleo is fiercely independent. With an impressive repertoire under her belt, Mama Cleo has amassed a large following including almost 8k monthly listeners on Spotify! She proudly refers to her fans as her “babies” and the success she has garnered in the last couple of years is swiftly increasing. This year, Mama Cleo leaned her artistry in a more jazz/soul direction to showcase her incredible versatility as an artist. Her two-track project “Love Is.” featuring singles “Freedom” and “Safe” are completely jazz-inspired pop ballads while her most recent single “Responsible” includes undertones of R&B nuances. With the release of “Responsible”, Mama Cleo also released a new music video for the single. The visuals are a beautiful representation of who Mama Cleo is. The video seems completely introspective to the core, with flickering moments of truth and captivating imagery. Mama Cleo has plans to release more music through the end of 2019 and early 2020 that lean back to her original energetic pop-style, stay tuned! Listen to Mama Cleo’s music here and keep scrolling for more in our exclusive interview! Your most recent releases seemed much more vulnerable than your usual pop singles. Is this something your listeners can expect in the future from your music? Definitely! Over the past year, I've been really tapping into my emotions and melding that with my pop sensibilities. Each time I release a single it feels more and more vulnerable and "like me." Hopefully it'll keep getting more personal and relatable. “Love Is.” is another beautiful project. What do you hope your listeners and “babies” take away from this 2-track EP? Thank you! I made Love Is. during a time in my life as a young adult where I was really coming to understand the complexity of love. "Freedom" is a song about wanting to escape a relationship, have time alone and independence. It's for those days when you just need to get out on your own and might come back to an angry partner as a result. "Safe" is the anti-thesis. When you wake up in the morning, you realize how important that person is, and it's worth the give and takes to make the relationship work to keep your world with them together. It's really well visualized in the short film I made here. We were blown away by the video for “Responsible”! What was the overall concept you wanted to capture for this music video? What was the filming process like? Thanks so much! It was incredible to make. Again, I have a fierce feeling of independence that makes me sassy in relationships. When someone tries to tell me to change a bad habit, I immediately feel like saying screw you, take me or leave me. The video is a modern dance that basically expresses that inner feeling. The dancer Kanie did an amazing job of translating that into movement. Do you have any plans to release a longer project or full-length album in the future? Over the past year or so, I've really been developing and exploring as an artist. I'd love to release an album in the near future - when the time is right and I feel like the sound is authentic to me. It was great having you here on BuzzMusic! Tell us more about what's next for you after this? Any shows in the near future?! I'll be releasing new music very soon! A lot is in the works. Hopefully the next single will be next month. No shows on the calendar right now, but everyone can keep up with me on Instagram or on my website. • Remember the Name C Z A R I N A

Hailing from Brooklyn, the self-made and extremely talented C Z A R I N A, also known as Vero Faye. She’s a retrofuturist and electronic musician with an ear for modern music with a dream-like twist. With rock influences like Nirvana, Sound Garden, TOOL and Nine Inch Nails, her latest releases fully showcase her vulnerability and further proves that her artistry will take her far into the music industry today. Inspired by her love for futurist culture, cyberpunk, 80s tech noir, mecha robots, martial arts, and Japanese Animes, C Z A R I N A creates music that acts as an escape to another dimension. C Z A R I N A kicked off her 2019 by releasing a Music Video for her incredibly cinematic single “Burn” from her LP “Painted Holograms”. In the same month, she also released her first single of 2019, "In The Line of Fire". This song introduced C Z A R I N A as a truly genre-melding artist, combing the likable qualities and cinematics of synth-wave with the edgy grit of rock n roll. Previously featured on BuzzMusic "Til The Last Star” debuted in June and served as C Z A R I N A’s first space wave and Dreamwave ballad. Brand new from C Z A R I N A, she just dropped her music video for "BLAZE: Dances of the Yokai, The Tale of the Assassin and the Samurai" directed by Deliris Films and the Kitsunés. We had the pleasure of checking this out and let us tell you, it feels like your deep in a storyline throughout the entire experience. It’s a cinematic adventure and we highly recommend you check it out! Listen to C Z A R I N A’s new music here and scroll down for more! Welcome back C Z A R I N A! Do you believe that the way you intend to communicate your messages through your music is easily received by your listeners? CZ: I think so. That's the part that I love. I know that my music and my style of songwriting could be quite particular, but I really enjoy it when my work resonates with listeners. The ones who get it, really understand where the art and perspective are coming from and develop a deeper appreciation for my work not just as an artist and creative, but also as a human. And that's how I feel I established a real genuine connection with my audience. Who has had the biggest influence on your life musically thus far? Can you describe the impact this particular individual has had in terms of your brand new music video "BLAZE: Dances of the Yokai"? CZ: I would say artists and musicians like David Bowie and Bjork would be my biggest influence in terms of having untethered, fearless creative output. I'm still evolving and my hope is to be able to thrive according to the clear vision I had set for myself, just the way they did. And I think my new music video exemplifies this level of ambition. What are some of your ultimate goals as an artist? Are any of these goals currently being put into place/being worked on? CZ: My goal is ultimately to create unique, strong masterful bodies of different types of works I can call my own, that's true to myself and are true representatives of me as an artist. When I touch something, I want people to be able to immediately identify that it is me and true to my form. Also, I'm working towards an encompassing universal experience for those who follow my work, creating pieces that will stand the test of time. I think the careful treatment and planning I put in each and every endeavor and viewing projects under this lens are key to this development. We absolutely love your latest music video! What predominant message was integrated within "BLAZE: Dances of the Yokai"? Can you tell us more about the concept of the music video? CZ: I'm glad to hear you guys enjoyed it! "Blaze," both as a song and what is entailed in the video, is about losing one's own path, all the collateral damage that comes with it, and finally finding one's way back home. The music video was inspired by my favorite retro video games like Mortal Kombat as well as film legends like Quentin Tarantino, Akira Kurosawa, Wes Anderson, and Hayao Miyazaki. I have also been practicing budo arts and been wanting to work on a Samurai-themed music video that is ferocious, badass, yet still funny, organic and has a lot of heart. And we thought how fun would it be to play a deranged assassin wreaking havoc? You seem to be an artist that puts more thought into their lyrics than most. What can you tell us about the lyrical depth within “Til The Last Star? CZ: "Til The Last Star" is about how far one would traverse for their true love. It is one of my simplest pieces, yet also my most favorite because of the powerful emotional surges it conveys through very bare tenderness. I am a believer that it should not take a lot of words to express some of the deepest and truest feelings in the universe. Thank you so much for talking with us about your new material and creative process. Can you describe how your performances feel? Do you enjoy live shows, or do you prefer the actual songwriting process? Also, any live shows coming up in the near future?! CZ: I enjoy both live shows and songwriting/production. However, I really do love my live performances as I feel my music and work - and also my own persona - take on a whole new life form, energy, and meaning. I feel life is when you set your ship to sail. I am very different on stage - more emotional, aggressive, theatrical and supercharged. I enjoy exercising musical and performance athleticism. That is the best part, especially when I can feed on the audience's energy and amplify it back. I love playing with my full band, who by the way, are also members of Blondie - Matt Katz-Bohen (lead synths), Tommy Kessler (guitar) - along with Ismael Baiz (drums) and DeadlyKawaii (synths). My next show is November 9th at Berlin Under A in New York City. www.instagram.com/czarinaofficial #BuzzMusic
