- Exclusive Interview: Singer-Songwriter MEÏA Talks Upcoming Album & More
Welcome back MEÏA! It wasn’t long since we’ve last featured your music! How do you stay on track to create relevant content so consistently? Well, I've went through hard times in my life as everybody has at a certain point and sometimes there are things you can't change. Although I have always had the profound certainty that being committed to your own path will sooner or later will get you back on track again. I'm always recording moments in my mind, emotions that later will become part of my music. I think that an artistic path has not only to do with how skilled you are but what your attitude is in front of your life and others. What can you tell us about your much anticipated new album? Do you have an official release date? It's going slowly. I'm writing for a performance right now. We will also be fundraising for my upcoming album! When all of this finishes I will be able to let you know the exact dates. Tell us more about the lyrics in your award-winning song "Be Gentle My Love". Which line in this song do you believe hold the most impact for the listener? "Our wounds are here to free us" Through some years I've being doing Jungian therapy to get to know myself better and through this work of acknowledgment, I've realized that the deeper you look at your wounds the sooner they heal. To evade or to turn your eyes to the other side is never going to work. When we are in love we are more vulnerable and open. But this offers us a chance to heal our wounds. Because someone is looking at us as a whole, seeing our essence beyond the prejudices we all have to face in our society and in our daily life that fragment our identities on behalf of utilitarism. We all deserve to be treated with dignity and love. In my song I was trying to connect romantic love with a deeper, trascendent love. You've been recognized many times all over the US with awards for your incredible songs. Which award was the most meaningful to you? Why? "Best Piece Of Music" by Aphrodite Film Awards for "Be Gentle my love". Because it made me to come to NYC and when I was having some hard times, this was a gift for me. I believe in my art and in my music but these recognitions make your faith grow stronger. Can you tell us more about your ongoing fundraising campaign? In October we're going to start a fundraising for my new album-performance. It's going to be an Indiegogo campaign. What has been one of your most memorable or life-changing achievements as an artist so far? It's difficult to choose one, maybe I would choose the first one! I was hired for a character role at a theatre when I was 23. With that opportunity, I started my artistic professional career. - Kristen Rae Bowden’s Debut Album “Language & Mirrors” Is OUT NOW
The right kind of friction creates glorious sparks. Coursing within the heart and mind of singer-songwriter Kristen Rae Bowden is a beautiful turmoil of tenderness and willfulness. It’s a paradoxical sentiment also evident in her artistic sensibilities. In her debut project, “Language & Mirrors”, she fluidly, and authentically, inhabits earthy Americana and majestic orchestral rock. Kristen’s a confessional storyteller with a theatrical flair who draws from a wide swath of influences. The catharsis in her music is physically evident in her piano playing and her emotive and dynamic vocals. Kristen plays the piano like she’s mad at it; her full body pulsates with rhythm as she attacks the instrument. Her vocals sweep upward from richly expressive lower-register belting to a soaring angelic soprano. Her phrasing swaggers with mama lion toughness, playful sass, and sweet sincerity. “Language & Mirrors” is a vibrant mix of complementary stylistic explorations. Throughout the album’s twist and turns are Kristen’s timeless songcraft and poetic and metaphorical lyric writing. While poised for a promising career with the release of her debut, Kristen pauses to thoughtfully ponder the impact of her music. “Few things can create an intimacy between strangers as well as a song,” she says. “I hope people feel like these songs ‘know them,’ like someone far away feels exactly as they do.” “Born Of Chaos” as an opener is a beautiful song, gorgeously crafted and performed, offering the subtly addictive qualities of a rock hit but refreshingly riding the alternative wave at the very same time. A gorgeous sound and the perfect way to kick off “Language & Mirrors”. Next up, “Driven Just To Roam” opens with a lilting melancholy piano figure, ethereal guitars, and smoldering vocals. Its orchestral expanse surges upward dramatically as the song unfolds, lending the feeling of an emotional odyssey. “Doesn’t Make Sense” follows and begins the eclectic movement through the project. An orchestral vibe emerges here, a hint of weight and darkness, a concept that deals with struggle and strength in unison. The track is musically spacious on occasion, which lays bare the power of yet another memorable melody. The lyrics are incredibly poetic and honest. Kristen remains fresh yet personal, interesting and accessible. A great vibe and another fairly addictive track. Elsewhere on the album, there’s as much for the listener to connect with and further understand Kristen Raw Bowden as an artist. Songs like “Forever, Please” offer heart-warming piano ballads and an outpouring of individuality and honesty. The vocal rhythm changes assist in giving this one a new sense of structure. “Runaway” (My Beating Heart) afterward drives with an incredibly powerful piano and mesmerizing guitar solos. This track tells another story that’s intimately rooted yet accessible for listeners. Kristen’s voice is gorgeous throughout the project, but moments like this let those stunning intricacies and that soul shine brightly. “Solid Ground” is a magical song, incredibly moving and delicate in its approach, standing tall on the strength of its concept and the gentle way in which the artist delivers this. “Solid Ground” is the crossroads where Kristen’s earthy folksiness melds with her brazen prog-rock sensibility. With a folk/Americana appeal, the hook is superb. It entrances and makes you crave a replay, which is exactly what Kristen delivers. “Solid Ground Echo” is an instrumental song that incorporates orchestral and many captivating elements to form a wordless piece of musical brilliance. The country-tinged “Party On The Mountain” pines for those carefree nights of yore drinking in the fields of her hometown of Boone, North Carolina with her high school buds. “It’s one of the few songs I’ve written not inspired by feelings of frustration,” Kristen says with a good-natured laugh. “Honey Bee” offers a change of pace and mood. We hear Kristen showcase her powerhouse ability as a vocalist. The delicacy and range in her voice on this track are completely entrancing. “Honey Bee” is a creatively unusual song that stands out for its freedom, for its rhythm and character.“It Isn’t About You” brings through a simple touch of joy and some thoughtful observations. This song sees Kristen Rae Bowden truly let go and show-off her vulnerability. The final piece on the new album is the initially ambient and later emotional and stylish “My Father’s Daughter”. The poignant and autobiographical ballad “My Father’s Daughter” might be the closest song to Kristen’s heart on “Language & Mirrors”. Her father passed away when she was 18 (her father was 61 when Kristen was born). The track details the complexities inherent in having a relationship with someone with a similar story and touches on the meaning of the album title, “Language and Mirrors”. Kristen expands: “The album’s concept centers around how the people closest to us reflect ourselves. They are our metaphorical mirrors.” Kristen Raw Bowden has put so much into this project including her personality, her experiences, and quite literally the work that’s gone in to create something so professionally crisp and compelling. Listen to “Language & Mirrors” here and stay tuned for our exclusive interview with Kristen Raw Bowden! Welcome to BuzzMusic Kristen! We’re loving your album “Language & Mirrors”! What was the main concept behind this project? My album “Language & Mirrors” is all about the intricacies of personal relationships: how everything we learn while learning to love others, informs and affects our relationship with ourselves. And vice versa. This project, being my first album, is made up of songs that I wrote throughout my 20’s. In fact, I think I wrote the oldest song on the album at 19, and the newest at 29, so it really covers a decade of my life, and I think that just became the concept... me as a young woman, attempting to navigate my relationships. “Language and Mirrors” speaks to causes of miscommunication and conflict. The specific words we use with our loved ones have so much power. And when we look into the eyes of someone we love, often we just see ourselves. Where is the best setting to listen to your songs, and what do you hope people take away from them? I think the best setting for my songs might be in the car, driving down the road... I hope people take away a feeling of catharsis, and forward motion. What are your thoughts on mainstream music today?Billie Eilish is amazing. That pretty much sums it up. Can you dive into details about the lyricism in “Honey Bee”? I have moments where I feel like I’m watching my life instead of living it. Some years ago I was traveling around Hawaii with a backpack and my boyfriend at the time. He and I were sitting next to a hotel pool, having a pointless argument, just talking in circles and getting nowhere. At the same time, I looked down and saw a little honey bee on the hot concrete, walking around and around in circles. The bee’s inexplicable circles seemed to symbolize our ridiculous argument, and my feelings about it. And it felt strangely purposeful to me, like I was on candid camera and some phantom movie director put that little bee there, just for me to see. There’s something magical about moments like that, even if it’s just my imagination. What emotions were necessary for you to channel when creating “My Father’s Daughter”? Sometimes you just have to see the beauty in a bad situation. While writing “My Father’s Daughter” I was experiencing some rare moments of acceptance and quiet peace, in the midst of a super chaotic relationship. In order to write that song I had to “zoom out” so to speak, and look at my life from above, to get some clarity, and see the beauty in the flaws. What’s next for Kristen Rae Bowden? In August I started recording my next album with a new group of fabulous musicians. I’ve also got a new music video in the works ~ stay tuned ;) Connect with Kristen Rae Bowden on social media: www.facebook.com/KristenRaeBowden www.instagram.com/kristenraebowden #BuzzMusic
- Check Out Joji Redback's Latest “Left”, Perfect For A Late Night Drive
Bilingual and multicultural artist Joji Redback is a naturally gifted French/Australian rapper living in Montreal, Canada. At only 23 years old, he has creative ideas to his artistry that are developed well beyond his years. His versatility is evident through his ability to mix uncommon genres like rap and house music. Not only is Joji Redback a French and English rapper and singer, but he's a talented songwriter and drummer since the age of 15. “Left” by Joji Redback is a smooth R&B track that combines an old-school hip-hop sound and authenticity to create a contemporary vibe. What impresses about this release is not just the unique sound, but the spectacular lyricism, the smart leading voice, and the story-line and details. While that retro R&B vibe outline creates nostalgic energy, the verses work hard to captivate and add substance to the process. Where “Left” could have been a simple repeat of bars from countless other summer hits, Joji Redback makes sure to throw his spin on things, to mix it up and showcase his intelligence and impressive writing skills. At the same time, the work put in results in a brilliantly energizing and even motivational bit of timeless music. Don’t sleep on Joji Redback, stay on the lookout for what he delivers next! Listen to “Left” here and read more with Joji Redback below! Welcome to BuzzMusic! We’re addicted to your single “Left”! What does this song represent for you? Hi BuzzMusic! Thank you so much for showing support in regard to Left. It is greatly appreciated. I wrote this song as a kind of feel-good ballad. Every emotion that you may be feeling throughout your life is a matter of perspective. Whatever may be coming your way, face it with a smile on your face and a little dance move. Whatever happens, keep flexing!! That's the state of mind that I was in when I made this song. Where is the best setting to listen to “Left” and what do you hope people take away from it? I believe that any setting could be appropriate for listening to this track as anyone can relate to it. Although, if I had to chose I would say the best setting would be in a car on your way to a destination you have never yet been to. Or maybe listening to it after you've been hit with some bad news. If you just got dumped or you just lost your job, go listen to Left homie hahaha. I'd love it if people could listen to Left and walk away with a "F*** it attitude". What’s your favorite lyric that you feel has the most impact in “Left”? Why? My favourite line in Left is definitely the following: "If life is a b***h then damn it that h*e's nice." Everyone has their problems and has to face various obstacles throughout their lives. Although, in my case, when I sit down for a second and take time to reflect, I quickly realize that my problems can be considered as insignificant in comparison to someone else's worries. As soon as you start being appreciative of the things that you have, you start realizing how awesome your life actually is. If you had to pick just one song in your collection to adequately describe your sound, which song would you choose and why? It's quite hard to pick just one song as all of my songs tend to really vary in style and sound. If I had to pick one I would probably pick "Ganbei". It's quite an old song of mine but for some reason it still really resonates with me as it incorporates the type of sound that I'm striving for. What other projects are you working on through the end of 2019? I'm working on a few singles that will be released before the end of 2019, and hopefully maybe even releasing a small EP before the end of the year! A lot more to come. - Sarah Christine Releases Memorable And Authentic Single "Aspen"
Hey Sarah! We're so happy we can feature you and your latest music here on BuzzMusic! How do you feel your music has been developing over time? My music has been progressing nicely! Currently we are focused on building an "insider team" of people that enjoy my music for secret shows, updates, live streams, etc! I've also been fortunate to start working with a team of people whom are just as invested in growing our music business and career! We have a lot of surprises coming for the end of 2019 for everyone and into 2020! Stay tuned for all the excitement and announcements! "Aspen" is an incredibly memorable and authentic single. Can you tell us more about how the creation process went for the song? Yes! I looped the music using my piano and looping in beats to quickly pick up the tone. I originally wrote it as a solo piano song but felt that it could be a song that could impact the pop streams more by looping in other instrumental to pick up the pace. via up tempo However, the song is also really beautiful played just on the piano in which I'll be shooting a live music video covering the song without the drums/loops very soon as well as within some upcoming live shows. We know there's a deeper meaning and story behind "Aspen". Are you able to share with our BuzzMusic listeners what the song truly means to you, and where you drew your inspiration from? Yes! I met a woman in Denver that I started dating (and still am) whom lives in Aspen. She is an adventurous soul and extremely driven and has also been through a lot to get to where she is - she was the inspiration behind this song. I also wanted to connect with the Aspen community as I've grown incredibly fond of the people there, the community they serve, the philanthropy focus' of so many people I've met and the embrace of new friendships. Aspen is a special song for me and I hope the city of Aspen, the state of Colorado, and anyone affiliated with the amazing city through visits or memories or relationships feel the same connection to the song that I do! We're excited to hear that you're shooting four new music videos in the upcoming months! What is the recording process like for you during filming? Do you personally enjoy aspects that come along with singing and writing, like filming for music videos?Yes! We can't wait! I can't divulge too much at this time, but all 4 videos will be live recordings working alongside TogFilms. We want to show the streaming community what they can expect from me as if they were sitting at a live show within their living room. We hope it's an intimate series that will continue to connect others with my music and mission of us all being on this journey together. Can you explain the personal connection you feel with music? It's in my blood - there's nothing I'd rather do. Almost every connection with someone, conversation, experience causes me to create music daily in which I feel incredibly blessed that lfie moments turn into song in my mind. Creating, writing, producing, looping, building organic relationships, making mistakes, running and learning the business aspect of music, and working alongside other talent and mentors - t's all a part of the process and I am enjoy every aspect of it and still have so much to learn together! Thanks for coming on BuzzMusic to talk with us about your recent music (and a little extra personal stuff)! We're waiting eagerly for your single "Minnesota Eyes" to come out! How's the recording going for the track so far? It's going great! It's actually the first song I ever wrote while living in Minnesota and recently at a concert in Denver, wonderful woman, Jena, requested the song and although it wasn't on my set list, I sang it to her on a park bench outside of the bar after the show. She remembered it from one of my first concerts in Minneapolis and said it was her favorite song. It brought that song back to life for me and I can't wait for you to hear the release! We are also considering releasing a video and including her and her partner in the video as a thank you for bringing that song back to life for me! Another breath of fresh air and a mighty step in the right direction for the unstoppable revival of rock music! Listen to “It’s Alright” here and read more with Chatrooms in our exclusive interview below! Welcome to BuzzMusic! We love “It’s Alright”! What was the writing process like for this track? First off, thank you BuzzMusic for having us! “It’s Alright” is a song that came together pretty quickly and naturally. We wrote it last year while playing shows in support of our release at the time, “Fall ‘89”. It felt great while playing and it got a great response live, so we decided to take it to our friend Mike Pepe who helped out with some arrangements and finalizing the song. We recorded with Mike this past October/November. Once we had the audio, we knew we had to match that quality visually as well. We hired David Scott Heath, who did animation for us in the past, to do another animated video for “It’s Alright”. Everything came together and we were able to release in June of this year. We can’t say thank you enough to everyone for the response so far. It’s been very humbling and we hope everyone continues to enjoy the song. Can you dive into details about the lyrics in “It’s Alright”? Ultimately, “It’s Alright” is about acceptance. Accepting the loss, accepting yourself and through that, knowing that it’ll be fine. What are your thoughts on mainstream music today? Like most things in life, some of it is good and some of it is not so good. For anyone to just say “oh mainstream music sucks” or “anything on the radio isn’t good” is not a smart way of looking at it. Remember, only a Sith deals in absolutes! What’s your live performance like? Do you have any upcoming events or shows you’d like to talk about? Things you can spot at a Chatrooms show: High energy, neon flamingo, mini disco ball and usually, you can challenge us to street fighter or play sonic at the merch table via our sega genesis. Catch us this Saturday Sept 21 at Reseda Rising in the San Fernando Valley presented by 11:11 Art Collective. Free / All Ages / 5pm - 10pm What do you hope to achieve through the end of 2019? We hope people continue to listen and enjoy “It’s Alright”. In the meantime we are prepping to record a new single that should be out sometimes before the new year or shortly there after.
