- BuzzMusic Talks With Kelvin Frazier On His Recent Music!
Thank you for sharing some time with our readers today, what have you been up to in 2019? I have been busy wrapping up my EP for it to be released in 2020 and doing side gigs from time to time. Any LIVE show experiences or road stories you would like to share? I had a show at a hotel and they were suppose to accommodate me for the night. They waited until after the show to tell me that all the rooms were taken. Then as I attempted to find another hotel, I found out that all the other hotels in the area was booked too due to some event that was in town. So, I ended up sleeping in my car until I could make it to the area of my next gig. That was a rough moment and I will not let that happen again. With such a busy schedule, how do you find the time to rehearse and create new music? I don't sleep Hahaha. The secret is time management. I am really good at managing schedules even when schedule conflicts happen. I always say "If there is a will there is a way". Where are you currently located as an artist? Are there particular things you like to do when you aren't in the process of writing/recording?! I am located in Los Angeles and I love to play basketball before I retired from it. I had major ankle issues which made me stop the sport. Tour plans anytime soon? I will be touring mostly the west and east coast for my 2020 tour promoting my latest EP. When we follow our dreams in life, there are sacrifices. What do you find to be the greatest sacrifices and the greatest gifts of your career? One of my sacrifice was putting off buying a home. I really want to own property, but that time hasn't come yet since I have to personally finance my music career being an independent artist. The greatest gift is the freedom and control to manage my own career. When I made the Billboard Charts that confirmed that I am doing a decent job. - Philip Morris Boasts Lyrical Wit With His Latest, “Drink on Me”
Philip Morris is high-energy music. Initially, when making hip-hop music, Philip Morris was driven by a desire to imitate the flows of artists like Dr. Dre, Kanye West, and MF Doom, in an effort to gain the skillset. Attempting to display these skills came two tapes of arguably insincere, retroactively-cringe-inducing music, hip-hop was put on the back-burner. During this self-induced hiatus, trap music, and SoundCloud rap took off in a huge way. Specifically, Lil Pump's hilarious, braggadocios, neo-punk delivery inspired Philip Morris’ return to the genre, but with different intentions than before. Philip Morris aka PM creates infectious, innovative, clever, music for heavy drinking, powerlifting, and introspection. A tough blend of quick-witted bars, lush melodies, and hard-hitting instrumentals. PM is not to be missed, and hard to forget. “Drink on Me”, featured on PM’s album titled “Drink Up!!” and we can’t get enough. High energy from beginning to end, “Drink on Me” hits the mic hard. They bring the party energy to any event and have us bumping this incredible track on repeat! All about having a good time, PM knows how to create good vibes and relatable lyrics. “Drink on Me” is the perfect song for a late-night crushing drinks with your friends, or for diving into and dissecting the lyrics. “Drink on Me” boasts insanely catchy lyrics and an all-around infectiously energizing mood. Listen to “Drink on Me” here and read more with Philip Morris below! Hey Philip Morris! Can you start by introducing yourself to our readers? How did you know you wanted to start making music? Hey Buzz Media! I am Philip Morris aka PM. I am from Victoria, BC, Canada. I think of this project as being a "Sandbox Game" like Grand Theft Auto where I have the freedom to play around with various genres, punchlines, feelings, homages, pop culture references, etc. I have been extremely passionate about music since a young age, having been in various school bands, and choirs from elementary age. I have been involved with various experimental music groups/projects for ages, but hip hop was my first passion. “Drink on Me” is a dope track! What inspired it? I drank 8 beers while we recorded this song. I was particularly obsessed with Charli XCX, and Tears for Fears at the time. I was also inspired by "A Grand to Come for Free" by The Streets, which is very, very British sounding, and also very, very funny. I found it fun to play this drunken British scumbag who cannot take responsibility for himself, and 'gaslights' everyone around him. Perhaps, I have been that person as well. What’s the hip-hop music scene like in your hometown? I do not think I am the one to ask this. There a few hip-hop artists I've connected with here, but it certainly is not something dominant here. I particularly like James Joyce 1307, S.A.M. & D.E.X., and Darren Day. For the most part, however, I am creating with my friends, or more recently people I find on Instagram and sound cloud. What would be your dream venue to perform? I have yet to perform in a nightclub with this project, and I truly believe my music as PM would resonate with that audience. I also really fuck with Philadelphia's hip hop scene so perhaps somewhere there. What’s next for you? I am focused on finding all the local people who are willing to collaborate. I want to step outside my normal wheelhouse, and learn from others. Then this will hopefully mean Chris and I we can produce an even better fourth record. Access Philip's Instagram for more updates on upcoming releases and shows! #BuzzMusic
- PREMIERE: Jae Alexander Drops Brand New 2-Track EP "2019 King of the New Jack Swing"
Jae Alexander is a talented R&B singer/songwriter and former Air Force active duty veteran. A Maryland native, Alexander was a 2019 nominee for "Best RnB Artist" via Wammies DC and a nominee and recipient of the 2018 T.A.A "Male Vocalist of the Year". Alexander has collaborated with MK Beatz AGAIN, (yes, AGAIN) to create music like nothing on the market right now, Jae Alexander exudes musical talent with his brand new 2 track EP, "2019 King of the New Jack Swing" creating the hard-hitting production from start to finish. From track number one "LookOut" to track number two "PurpleRain", Jae's energy and musical flavor are unmatched. Taking the industry by storm, Jae Alexander makes the absolute most out of every single second of this two and a half minute release that is “LookOut”. Leading with a clear variety of flows and ideas, the track impresses from the offset and continues to keep you interested and captivated right the way through. The nostalgic 90’s R&B aura is genuinely unique and calmly confident enough to grab your attention. “LookOut” is a song with a specific intention and sentiment within its story-line. Jae Alexander leads with this at every step, keeping his bars poetic and personal, reflective of a hard-working, driven creative. “LookOut” is entertaining, and Jae Alexander always finds the right way to present his best self and the details of his underlying concept. As only half of the EP "2019 King of the New Jack Swing", “LookOut” is definitely a strong introduction track. I highly recommend you check out track #2 “PurpleRain” and stay on the lookout for more from Jae Alexander and MK Beatz! Listen to "2019 King of the New Jack Swing" here and keep scrolling for more with Jae Alexander! Welcome back Jae Alexander! Congrats on releasing your new EP "2019 King of the New Jack Swing"! What’s the overall concept you’re trying to achieve with this release? The overall concept I am trying to achieve is showing the versatility and diversity within in the music I create. As well as giving just good music a chance to win again. The artists winning at every level in the industry today cannot be boxed to one style. I want people to know that about Jae Alexander Your track “LookOut” has an extremely nostalgic sound to it. What draws your interest to the sounds of 90’s R&B? How do you manage to spin it and make it refreshing and modern? Growing up in the era of the greatest music ever made was a blessing. Those sounds and dynamics are not instilled in me naturally. The way we spin it musically is through production collaboration. This project not only features production from MK Beatz but also Kid Exclusive, along with myself we aim to find the perfect mix and bounce those ideas off each other that will keep the music marketable. Can you dive into some stand-out lyrics within your EP "2019 King of the New Jack Swing"? Why do you feel they are the most impactful? “Baby let’s take our time, tryna make sure that we get it right, but your so damn enticing to me” This is one of my favorite likes from “LookOut” because its naturally so true. These days I know people can relate to WANTING to do things one way in a relationship, but then DOING things a completely different way because they couldn’t help themselves. I just find it extremely relatable. What do you think sets you apart in mainstream music today? My sound is what I know no other person can possess. My creativity musically is beyond unique, the ability to adapt to and find my sound in any music put in front of me & the simple fact I sound the same on track as I do live is a big plus too. Can you give us any indication as to what’s next for you? Any upcoming collaborations or new visuals for us to look forward to? Honestly, I am not sure. More music is coming yes, more visuals of course, I would just say prepare for my independent sophomore album “Alexander The Great”coming end of 2019 beginning of 2020. Lyrically, musically, and performance-wise, the whole thing sounds perfect for what it is. - BuzzMusic Exclusive: Alson Releases New Single "Brings Back" Featuring Lankford
Hello Alson! What was the creation process like for this track? Did you face any challenges? How did you overcome them? The creation process was pretty funny and cool at the same time. I sent the plain track with vocal chops and Matt heard something in there, a lyric. I was absolutely surprised about it and thought it was amazing. How did moving from the Netherlands to Spain affect who you are as an artist? Moving to Spain was not for my musical career but it definitely affected me in a positive way as a person. And that change probably also had an impact on the choices I made in music. I think right now I am more focused on melodic stuff and things that I really feel myself. I try to listen less to what others want and more to what I want. The sunny weather also helps with that. What advice would you give to yourself when you were first started out ten years ago? You can always do things better. I think maybe I could have focused better in the beginning on what I really wanted for myself. We love that you’re collaborating with Lankford again! Do you think this will become an ongoing match-up? Lankford and I are good friends, we call each other now and then and share music. We help each other when we can and I think that's what real friendship is for. You can definitely expect more stuff from us. What has been one of your most memorable or life-changing achievements as an artist so far? Not sure if life changing, but being supported by big channels was really awesome and also being able to DJ at Ibiza, the island. I think my career is still in the beginner phase so let's see what's going to happen next. Listen to "Brings Back" by Alson featuring Lankford here, and stay connected with Alson through his socials below! Facebook Instagram #BuzzMusic
- “You Said” By Kass Pours Heart And Soul Into Every Aspect Of Music
Hailing from Ottawa, Canada is the gifted singer/songwriter Kass. It was Tupac, Nate Dogg, 50 Cent, and Akon to name a few that excited an adolescent Kass but he didn’t begin making music until he recorded an interlude for his older brother who was a member of a rap group, Rezurrect, in the mid-2000s. This experience would establish a life-long relationship with Kass and the mic. At age nine, Kass decided he would one day follow in his brother’s footsteps to have his own music crew. In 2017, Kass put forth his first major single “Drunk Textin” that took on a new and rejuvenated sound that would, later on, shape his career as an artist today. The single received over 100k plays on Spotify solidifying Kass’ music career. He followed this single with EP, “We Hours”, in 2018. This dreamy EP, riddled with Kass’ airy melody and distorted futuristic notes created by an unorthodox stutter-step cadence, spelled the story of ardent love. Kass refuses to be confined to one genre as he blurs the lines of pop and r&b with trap and dancehall influences. A new smooth R&B track from Kass is “You Said”. It’s a creative piece of musical excellence. Kass showcases his finely-calibrated vocal register and angelic tone. The track “You Said” talks about the ups and downs of love and loyalty. We love the emotive lyricism and heart-filled hook. Pulling from his wide variety of musical influences, Kass has a voice that’s seasoned well beyond his years. He pours his emotion into his lyrics and music. “You Said” is well-produced, brilliantly delivered and an overall dreamy R&B hit. We can’t wait to see what Kass drops next! Check out “You Said” here and read more in our exclusive interview with Kass below! Can you start by introducing yourself? I’m an Ottawa, ON based artist who goes by Kass, my name comes from the first three letters ‘kas’ of my last name with an added ‘s’ which stands for songs. How would you describe your sound and your approach to music? Id say i have a smooth toned melodies with unorthodox stutter step cadences and in terms of my approach to music, it depends on the mood. I usually set the tone with the hook and follow that with a verse that fits Can you tell us more about your song “You Said”? What does the release of this song represent for you? “You Said” was about a female I was in a long term relationship with for sometime who decided to end things. She didn’t think I was ready to grow with her in the long run which scared her. And with my music taking up a lot of my time distance was evident. The release of the song really represents my anger towards her for leaving and that her leaving is fine because it would be easy for me to replace her. Also noting that the constant back and forth we were doing even after the break up needs to stop and she should move on. (Also devoting a bar to my struggles of being an up and coming artist from an unknown city). What lyric in the song would you say is the most personal? Why? Id say when I said “think I need you, I just need you to move on” was the most personal line because I was hurt at the time and said what I said but didn’t mean it what so ever. How does the songwriting and recording process compare to live performance for you? It compares to a live show performance because i want to bring the same emotion out of the crowd like the song did for me when I was writing / recording it. I’d say it various on which one is harder than the other but I’d have to go with the writing process more because I’m entering a field that is uncomfortable and sad opposed to getting the crowd to match that feeling. What do you hope to achieve as an artist through the end of 2019? Really, just more recognition so I can grow my brand more as an artist and be heard by the masses. Keep on track with Kass and his music via his socials below! Instagram Twitter #BuzzMusic
- Prophetik Wizdom Has “Prophetik Vizions” In Latest Eclectic Track
Prophetik Wizdom is an independent recording artist from St. Louis, MO. Born in Little Rock, AR, but raised in St. Louis, Andrew Eason grew up with his mother and father who acted as one of his main musical influences. Another main influence, his grandfather, was a member of the gospel group, Spiritual Harmonizers. Along with his biggest hip-hop influences J. Cole, Common and Black Thought, Prophetik Wizdom is making his original sound known to the world. Prophetik is most famous for working with Philli Moo and Q-Note on the "I Am Trap Jazz" album released in 2016. In 2018, he released his debut album Prophetik’s Conversation, Vol. 1, which had 24k streams. On July 20, 2019, Prophetik released Vol. 2 which is available on all major platforms. Both albums were written and produced by Prophetik himself, and engineered by Quincy “Q-Note” Watson. “Prophetik Vizions” fuses elements of jazz, old school funk, and contemporary hip-hop into one explosive sound! Whatever you liked about this artist is magnified on this project. Prophetik Wizdom offers up those classic jazz-fusion vibes and an equally smooth display of lyricism and vocal delivery at every step. One by one these elements enter the soundscape of “Prophetik Vizions” and strengthen the warmth and weight of its embrace. Throughout “Prophetik Vizions” the lyrical strength in the bars is completely connected to the concept and the mood of the track. The same goes for the subsequent story-line and scene-setting that emerges there. We love what we’re hearing from Prophetik Wizdom and can’t wait to see what he delivers next! Check out “Prophetik Wizdom” here and read more with the artist below! When did you start making music? Music began at an early age for me. I began playing drums at the age of 11 in marching band and church, but I began as a spoken word artist at 16. Spoken word heavily impacted my lyrical nature, as well as my cadence. Can you talk more about the meaning of the lyrics in “Prophetik Vizions”? Prophetik Vizions speaks about the journey to becoming a man, and an artist. I believe that an artist, and a man, should be more than just what he does, but also how he lives. It’s all about “why” you do what you do. Be the change that you want to see in the world! “Prophetik Vizions” seems to have a diverse lyrical depth to it! What was the writing process like for this track? It began with a lot of reminiscing, which transitioned into what I see from other artist. The track speaks to what I think is missing in music...lyrics! Seems to be too much mediocrity when it comes to lyrics these days. I believe an artist should be held to a higher standard than just “sounding cool.” Use your platform! If you had to pick just one song in your collection to adequately describe your sound, which song would you choose and why? One song is hard because I feel like I have many layers like onions do. However, I think would choose “Who Make It Realer?” I speak about The Pulitzer’s, which are comprised of myself, Philli Moo, Quincy “Q-Note” Watson, and MOVTVN (Eric Mouton). We are all musicians, producers, musical students, and most of all MEN who see the need for change in hip-hop. What do you hope to achieve as an artist through the end of 2019? My goal is to reach any ear that will listen. I speak for those who are tired of the same music. Those who want change from the norm. I believe that genuine need for change is what will always be the constant message in my music. #BuzzMusic
