  • Haha Charade Is Back To Tell Us All About Their New Single "Goodbye Juliet"

Hello haha charade! How's it been in the music world since you were last on BuzzMusic? Hey hey! Life has been great! The music has been flowing. We've been writing a lot. Now we just need to get back in the studio and record. We've been putting a lot of our focus on playing gigs and getting booked for festivals. We have a manager now, so things are on the up and up. We were initially going to release our entire album this Summer, but he asked us to hold off so we can properly market and make music videos. We're releasing three singles leading up to the album in January 2020. The second album is already written, and half of the third album is, too! Your musical execution is incredibly unique. You're able to mesh together entirely different categories of music, and blend it without any mistake. Do you face any predominant challenges attempting to blend together so many various musical elements? Thank you! That makes our heart sing. We have three songwriters in the band, so that's why the blends happen naturally. I think the biggest challenge when blending genres is getting listed on playlists because a lot of curators want genre specific sounds. Playlists are the way most music gets heard nowadays. When each song encompasses different genres, as we like to do, you may have a fan bobbing their head to a psych-funk sound and then -BOOM- we cut in with a reggae bridge that may turn them off. But that's the risk we're willing to take. At this point in our young career, we're still writing music for ourselves, just as much as for the fans. I'd like to think that because we like it, there has to be others out there that like it, too. If artists don't continue to push the bar, then we won't be able to advance music. We heard about the release of your debut album in 2020! Can you give us more information on how the musical stylings of this one will be compared to your other music? I think the songs that we're going to be releasing are more mature in nature. The first four songs we cut on our debut EP were part of the learning process. We never recorded professionally before that, so there were kinks to work out. We know what we're doing now. I'm sure mistakes will still be made, but that's part of the process(and the beauty of recording is you just take another take!). This album is very reliant upon strong rhythmic melodies. Some songs are more of build-ups than others, meaning the listener has to buckle in for the ride. That's hard to do when you can maybe get 10 seconds of someone's time. So we have a healthy mix of straight forward indie pop songs consisting of intro/verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/chorus, but we also have a semi-self-indulgent 7 minute song. Each song is different, but our "sound" permeates through. All I can guarantee is that some of the songs on the album are refreshingly new, and I'm excited to see how far around the world they can reach. How important would you say personal experience is to the creation of your music? Do you pour yourself into the music, or are the stories only stories? Depends on the song. Some are written from personal experience, but I'd say most are written from the subconscious. I think an empathetic soul can hear someone else's plights and be able to turn their pain into artistic beauty. So I wouldn't put as much emphasis on the personal experience as others might. We have vivid imaginations and like an element of story telling. Where's the best setting to experience your new album? If listeners had to expect one thing out of this album, what can they expect to see? The best setting would be outside. Preferably on a beach (Summer) or while taking a hike in the woods (Spring/Fall). Because we're releasing in the winter, I'd suggest -if you really want to get into it- to sit in a dark room and light a candle. Close your eyes and just vibe. Apparently if you listen to the album backwards on vinyl you'll be able to see your future. Listeners can expect to be transported from reality for a bit. They can also expect a lot of chants. But most importantly, they can expect a full album. All killer, no filler. "Goodbye Juliet" is out now! We're excited to listen to a snippet more of haha charade! Tell us what this track is about, and how the production of it has gone? We're excited, too! The song is a reversal on the classic breakup song trope. Usually artists are in their feelings, meaning they take on the role of the dumpee, not the dumper. This song is from the perspective of the one doing the dumping. In a nutshell, the song is about a beautiful girl that you start dating solely based on looks, but the closer you get, the further you need to get away. So you say "Goodbye Juliet." Peace, bitch! Haha, we aren't the most politically correct band. A good relationship has to be based on attraction AND personality. I think we've all dated someone we didn't really connect with just because how good looking they were. This song is for everyone that feels or has felt that way. The production was very smooth. Shout out to Nick "Clay McNail" Holmes at Occupy Studio! That's our guru, our Rick Rubin. He takes good care of us (and all his clients for others looking to record there!). • PREMIERE: Louis And The Shakes Release Infectious New Groove, “Blame”

Louis And The Shakes are a talented indie group making waves out of London. Blending hard-hitting riffs and quirky lyricism on top of their Indie Western backdrop, Louis And The Shakes are making their hits known through charismatic delivery of contemporary indie-rock with a twist. Their newest single, “Blame” starts as strongly as possible with a fresh and appealing leading guitar riff. The music has a classic yet creative indie rock and roll vibe, the instrumentation is always interesting, and the structure of the song means that there’s always something new just around the corner. “Blame” features a great set of melodies, particularly the hook, you find yourself eagerly awaiting as the song sets off. The whole soundscape features a slightly psychedelic and alternative laid back approach to rock and roll, and the repetition of the verse melody and that key riff add to the hypnotic and smooth energy of it all. There’s a distinct level of focus to the songwriting, and this speaks volumes for the Louis And The Shakes. Not succumbing to any one genre or style, yet knowing exactly what they’re all about. “Blame” is a contagious introspective track from Louis And The Shakes and we’re looking forward to hearing more. Check out “Blame” here and keep scrolling to read more in our exclusive interview! Welcome to BuzzMusic! Congrats on the release of “Blame”! What was the writing process like for this track? Thank you! I always love writing with a bit of typical British tongue in cheek wit, and at the time I was listening to a lot of Matt Maltese, where he very often 'plays victim' in love, with his comedic style. His album of love & heartbreak fuelled this song. I also wanted the band and I to start exploring new styles & sounds, and this melodic number really lent itself to strings so we pulled in a favour or two and had Will's brother come in to play those sections. We still manage to tune into our western/LA sound I think, whilst adding in more poppy/melodic elements. Can you dive into details about the lyrics in “Blame”? Blame is an ode to the warp world of social media, image and self-consciousness. I wanted to write a song on this from the guys perspective, and cut loose about feelings of envy, jealously and what weird and rather comical thoughts come into guys head when you see your girlfriend 'like a boys photo,' for example. I'm quite proud of some lines from this number, seeing peoples faces when we play it live when I sing 'was he hung like a horse.' I hope you Americans get our idioms aha. What are your thoughts on mainstream music today? I think everyone is one note away from ripping off someone else. It's dog eat dog man, everyone for themselves. I do feel that rock music is making its way back. It kinda went into hibernation I felt after AM by Arctics but 2020 proves to be a big year and hopefully some rock gods headline Glasto. What’s your live performance like? Do you have any upcoming events or shows you’d like to talk about? We have an upcoming self curated UK tour to coincide with this release. It's gonna be ace to play some shows in Manchester, Sheffield and Nottingham to name a few. Manchester has a great indie scene which we're keen to infiltrate. Our live shows are rousing, I don't think anyone can deny that. We strut our stuff, and my shirt usually ends up in the crowd by the last number. What do you hope to achieve through the end of 2019? We're speaking to a few people let's just say...but we have two new tracks which are kinda alt rock in sound, ditching the violin and trading it for a fuzz pedal if you know what I mean. We're gassed to get into the studio and record them. I haven't seen the boys this excited about new songs since I showed them 'Blame.' • “TAMAGOTCHI FREESTYLE” By Skip Waiters Is Out Now!

Born in Toronto, raised in the suburbs of Brampton, Canada, Skip Waiters finds his joy in being able to create catalogs of musical artistry reflecting his experiences growing up in the city. Shaping his own creative direction, Waiters’ introduction and passion for music came at a time when he needed to find his individuality. His love for the arts and storytelling transcended into his love for music. Crafting his abilities from the ground up, Waiter’s taught himself how to produce, write and curate his own sound using original progressions with no samples. Through years of developing as an artist, Waiter’s released his first single this year and hasn’t looked back. “TAMAGOTCHI FREESTYLE” comes in hard from the offset, showcasing Skip Waiters dominance as an up and coming hip-hop artist. Skip Waiters captivates right the way through. He does so without volume or gimmicks, just with the strength of his own bars and the unique quality of his voice. “TAMAGOTCHI FREESTYLE” emerges with weight and originality, but still it provides this easy-going groove that feels unexpectedly uplifting and even motivational. All the while, as this lyricism pours through and compels you, the music offers a hard-hitting beat. You get a sense that Skip Waiters follows his own rules entirely, but does so with skill and consideration. “TAMAGOTCHI FREESTYLE” is a superb track, an easy personal highlight for 2019, and a strong introduction to the artist and producer that is Skip Waiters. • Exclusive Interview: Catching Up With King Dylan

Welcome back King Dylan! What was the filming process like for your new song “Take Me Alive”? What inspired the video and where was it filmed? Thanks for having me back! I really appreciate it. The filming process for Take Me Alive was very DIY which suited the theme of staying true to oneself before the crushing pressures of society take you dead or alive. Alex (of Mindseed) and I wanted to adventure out into the wilderness and capture the realistic essence of escaping the city and reconnecting with the flow of nature. So we filmed the majority of it on a GoPro camera to capture the movement and "Travel" aspect that goes hand in hand with that style of visuals. The river, the forest and the mountains were all very symbolic of things that are more "real" than what we as humans get caught up in and stress about every day. The perfect place for us to film this was in Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada, just west of our hometown of Calgary. Was this your first time collaborating with Mindseed? What was the writing process like together? Yes, it was the first time we collaborated on a song, although I had hired Alex to come play guitar with me at one of my shows and after checking out his music and writing style, I really wanted to see what we could come up with in the studio. When we got together to write it was really organic and we both kinda fell in love with the new ideas every time we came up with something. In the end it was a true melting pot of musical and lyrical inspiration that helped us mould this song together. I couldn't be happier with how the song turned out and I think Mindseed feels the same way. What’s the overall theme of your album “In The Darkness, We Shine”? I feel like the main point of my album title is that even with all the crap we deal with and go through, how depressed we may get, how dark our minds wander, that there is always something that can be perceived as a light... either to ourselves or to other people. The little lights you may have taken for granted can guide the way, cuz they will always be there - they are you at your core and everything that no one else can take from you. If someone could only listen to one song from your collection to get an idea of your sound, what song would you suggest and why? This is the hardest question of all time. I think "Untouchable" is an epitomizing song, as it captures the fun and yet the serious undertones what I usually write about. The video also garnered a lot of recognition for me too... but I won't let it define me, I'm always trying new sounds and styles. https://youtu.be/ROsTN_G8ttk What can we expect from the new music video you're dropping this fall? The song "Get out of this Town" deals with mental health, the perception of depression and understanding that some people just need an escape - In some ways it is very much the dark side of the coin to "Take Me Alive". The video attempts to show the internal struggles and different voices people with mental health issues might face. I can't give away too much! Listen to King Dylan here! • Step Back J Is Back Again With More Vibes With New Hit "Wassup"

Hey Step Back J! For those who don’t know, how would you describe your sound and your approach to making music? I like to think of myself as a very unique artist. I write mostly from a place of positivity which i think is missing a lot in hip hop, and even the world in general. Let’s take about your latest release “Wassup?”! What was the writing process like for this track? What inspired it? After making the beat, it was difficult finding a way to attack it at first. I ended up attacking it the best way i know how, with fun and good energy. A place of uniqueness. I talk about being different and deliver it in a way that you can tell i love being me. Not everything is perfect but things will work out perfectly how they should. Do you always write from a place of honesty and personal experience, or does fiction come into play on occasion? I always write from a place of honesty. When i first started making music that definitely was not the case. All i would hear on the radio is guns and drugs and so I would write about the same things even though i knew nothing about them. But once finding yourself in your music you have no reason to lie and if you do lie, the audience can easily find out. What are the main values you want to represent in the hip hop world with your latest single “Wassup?” The main value i want to push is that you can be positive and be different and that’s totally okay. Love yourself and let the listeners fall in love with who you really are. What are your thoughts on mainstream hip hop at present, and your hopes for the genre going forwards? My hope for the genre is to spread more positivity. It’s flooded with drugs, gang stuff and depression but there’s always been a lacking for something positive. We have a lot of music to cry too, a lot of music to party, we need more music we can feel good too. What's next for Step Back J? What’s next for me is a few different things. I have been stockpiling music to put together an album, as well as planning on releasing at least one track a month. I have been making a bunch of fun songs and will be releasing those as well as putting together an album that goes a little be deeper than just fun. Listen to Step Back J here! • Multi-Layered And Intriguing, You Have To Check Out “Light Me Up” By Anree Chess

Indie-pop, rock project Anree Chess was created by singer, songwriter, sound-producer Andrey Belecky in 2015 in Moscow. Anree Chess was born in Tashkent city (Uzbekistan) and began writing songs in 2015. A semifinalist of the Hard Rock Battle Of The Bands in 2019, Anree Chess has started his own concert activity this year! “Light Me Up” comes pouring through the speakers with ethereal vocals and delicate soundscape intricacies. Anree Chess provides elements of melody and lightness and a notably simple vocal line and a string of lyrics, the song is quick to intrigue and leaves its mark upon the listener. “Light Me Up” makes for a few minutes of escapism, leading with lightness and unity, never focusing on one element too strongly. A fascinating project with a strong ear for effective yet subtle melodies and lyrical prowess. Managing to effectively balance organic musicianship with flickers of electronic ambiance and personality, Anree Chess creates a quickly likable vibe and makes for a recognizable yet not intrusive new song. There’s a smooth and honest aura to the whole performance, and indeed to the writing, which introduces the artist in a relatable and enjoyable way. “Light Me Up” is inspiring, relatable and completely captivating. The originality and character of Andrey Belecky’s work is a true explosion of artistry. “Light Me Up” is a well-written and crafted song, even as it fades so gradually into the distance. Listen to “Light Me Up” here and read more with Anree Chess below! Welcome to BuzzMusic! Tell us all about your track “Light Me Up”! What inspired it? I was inspired by the pain of my old relationship. This song is about love, one-sided love. I called it “acid love”. It’s when you love someone but that person does not feel the same. Can you dive into details about the lyricism in “Light Me Up”, what line do you think is the most impactful? All details about the song are directly in the song :) But there is one thing I want to say.. that acid love has huge power and fuel that allows you to create beautiful things such as writing music, painting, build spaceships, help people but someday it will kill you from the inside. As for me, the most punch line is in the 2nd verse: “Too much love can someday poison me”. What are your thoughts on mainstream music today? became extremely much of music. Lots of artists and songs.. but I would not say that it’s good. Lots of them had lost their features. And the legends are still units. Because I live in Russia I’ve got a lot of problems with my music because of the language (most people don’t understand English) but what should I do if I have a dream to be a part of the world mainstream music and scene? I’ll just keep doing what I love to do the most :) If you had to pick just one song in your collection to adequately describe your sound, which song would you choose and why? Different times different songs. Today I would choose “Labrinth - Mount Everest” because now I relive the time of total loneliness and this song helps me to stay strong.. What are your main aspirations as an artist going forward? I’m probably an idiot that I created an impossible dream for myself, but I want to get Grammy, whatever it takes. I don’t know when, I don’t know how — but it will happen. • Amanda Dean Makes Impressive Statement With The Empowering “Stepping Stone”

Based in Vancouver, Canada, Amanda Dean is a gifted singer/songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. One of her most admirable skills in songwriting and performance is that she is truly able to convey the message in her artistry. Amanda digs deep down to bring the heartfeltness with a voice that has been described as gravelly and rich yet somehow smooth, soulful, old school and impactful. Amanda has extensive experience in the music industry, performing internationally in North America, the UK and other parts of Europe. She was signed to an independent record label in London, England, at the age of sixteen. She was heavily influenced by Soul music as a child and has since had the honor of sharing the stage with a number of Motown artists. She was also equally influenced by rock and counts Led Zeppelin and the Beatles as some of her earliest influences. Amanda is currently in the studio writing, producing and recording an album of original material that will incorporate, guitar-driven rock, R&B, and contemporary ballads. Amanda writes a lot of her songs from personal experiences and her mission is to connect with and inspire others through her music. “Stepping Stone” is beautiful, melodically inspired by the sounds of modern pop and rock, but instrumentally soaked in a more worldly aura that impresses on multiple levels. “Stepping Stone” reaches out for your affection and holds tight to it right the way through. Explosive and unique vocals line the outer edges in an intentional fashion and fragments of audio and ideas rain down around you. Surprisingly multi-layered, Amanda has taken the time to build something entirely unique, made up of individually crafted and captured moments. Ultimately, the effect is a rightfully uplifting call to action, a song that engages and embraces the listener, and inspires them to step forward. The song is subtle yet stunning, and hopefully, it’s merely a taste of what’s to come from Amanda Dean! Check out “Stepping Stone” here! Welcome to BuzzMusic Amanda Dean! Can you tell us about your upbringing? How did you get started in music? When I was growing up, my parents were huge music fans. My mom was a fan of soul music and my dad was a fan of rock music, so I got to listen to a variety of great artists from the 1960's and 1970's such as Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight & The Pips, the Beatles and Led Zeppelin from a very young age and that was a great early education. I learned to harmonize listening to the Beatles. I was completely obsessed with music. When I was five years old, two things happened that led my family to believe I would go on to become a musician. We had an old piano in the corner of the living room. I would climb up onto the stool, and mess around on it. I somehow worked out the chords to a Stevie Wonder song by ear (played with entirely the wrong finger positioning, although someone later showed me the correct way) and my mom walked in as I was playing and singing it. So we had the neighbors around after that, and I would do little concerts for them. I was also completely obsessed with the Thriller album by Michael Jackson. It's a masterpiece. Quincy Jones is my favorite producer and I'm a huge fan of the session musicians that played on the album, namely members of TOTO.Whenever Thriller was played on MTV, I would run to my closet and grab a red jacket that I had (like the one in the video) put it on and dance and sing. The only time I was quiet was when I would sit by the stereo that we had in those days, with headphones on, listening to my parents music collection. As a teenager, I was always singing, playing piano and writing songs. Much later, I developed a major passion for electric guitar. What can you tell us about “Stepping Stone”? How did it come to be, and what does it mean to you personally? I co-wrote "Stepping Stone" from personal experience. I was in a very bad relationship some years ago and felt dispensable to that person, who didn't have my best interests at heart. I went through a lot. I could have written a scathing song about it at the time, but decided to wait until I felt stronger and put a positive spin on it. It's a very lighthearted sounding chorus, making it sound like a much easier time than it actually was. While we were recording it, I had the idea of having someone whistle the melody of the hook at the end of the chorus, low in the mix. That was a small production technique that conveyed a 'carefree' feeling of getting over it and coming out the other side, because I really grew from that experience and am a lot stronger for it. In the past, you’ve worked with some impressive names! What has been your most memorable or life-changing experience so far as a creative? It's hard to pick just one. One of the best experiences was when I sang the Canadian and American National Anthems for all the major sports teams in BC. Having 44,000 people singing with you in a huge stadium, whilst you represent the pride sports fans feel for their respective countries is the best feeling and I'm honored to have been able to do it. I also love the creative process of being able to take a bare-bones song I have written and build it into the final product. I 'hear' all the instrumentation in my head fully produced, before anything is recorded. Then when other musicians play their parts, they add their own personal touch and it takes on a life of it's own. Each time we do that, it's memorable to me. Can you tell us more about your upcoming album? The title of the album is going to be 'Rise Like A Phoenix'. The title track has almost a Pink Floyd vibe to it, with a choir, real strings/horns and a big production. There's a few songs that are in the vein of Stepping Stone - radio friendly with catchy hooks. There's a few songs on the album that are all out, heads down rock and roll, a couple r&b/funk influenced tracks and some big sweeping ballads. It was important to me to have variety on the album, as I love to listen to many different types of music, from rock to soul, to classical, and I didn't want to write the same song ten or eleven times. It's cohesive as a whole though, because of production values and pretty much the same team of musicians playing on each of the songs. Also, I have a couple people who I co-write with, so the same chemistry is there on all of the tracks. Production wise - I try to make the songs really build, so that they tell a story and take the listener on a journey. What do you hope to bring to the music world with your own releases over the coming months and years? I want to continue to enjoy the creative process in the studio and I also want to get out there and tour and perform the songs live! I love each aspect equally. Music is a very giving thing. I love being in the studio but I also love performing live and connecting with the audience. To be given a gift as musicians and entertainers, where we can bring joy to others with art that we create from our passion is a blessing and I am very thankful for the gift of music every day. Each day, I work on trying to improve and grow as an artist and I'll never stop doing that. For now, I'm focusing on making the most sincere album that I possibly can. If in the future, I can make just one person feel the way I do when I listen to my heroes and influences, I'll be deeply honored. Keep up with Amanda Dean through social media! www.facebook.com/amandadeanmusic www.instagram.com/amanda_dean_music #BuzzMusic

  • I Fight Fail Puts Contemporary Spin On A 2002 Pop-Punk Classic

Based in Canton, OH, is the talented electronic pop-rock band I Fight Fail. Independently, I Fight Fail released their debut EP “Move Me” in early 2014. After catching the attention of Standby Records, in the fall of 2016, the label released I Fight Fail's sophomore effort “Voyages & Vantage Points”. With two EPs and two music videos under their belt, they parted ways with Standby and independently released their most successful single to date, “Silhouettes,” in early 2018. I Fight Fail's electronic, space rock sound has led them to play on stages with Machine Gun Kelly, Hawthorne Heights, Red Sun Rising, Nothing More, Pop Evil, and many other notable artists. When you're a band with members raised on early 2000’s emo/punk rock, it's only a matter of time before your rehearsal turns into a jam session of the 2002 classic, "Cute Without The E (Cut From The Team)" by Taking Back Sunday. I Fight Fail has far from created just another cover, they add their authentic flair to it and make it completely their own. The hip-hop beat and high energy pop-rock driven rhythms make this a new classic. There’s a definite nostalgic twang to the sound, though the way the melodies develop and the lyrics pour through seems far more contemporary. I Fight Fail have given "Cute Without The E" an electro-pop facelift, but still hold close the melancholic and catchy vocals we've been singing for 17 years. Fascinating for their openness and the energy they present, I Fight Fail are musically free and compelling for their unpredictability. I highly recommend you check out I Fight Fail’s cover of "Cute Without The E" by Taking Back Sunday here and read more with the band below! Welcome to BuzzMusic! How did I Fight Fail originally form? Hey, thanks for having us! I Fight Fail was actually started from a break up of our previous band Where Are You Houston. The group at the time was torn and indifferent on where we wanted to continue taking the band. So the three of us (Andy, Anthony, and Daryl) decided to spilt ways and start something new. How would you describe your sound and your overall approach to creating music? Our sound is always fluctuating as most artists but right now we are writing music that has more of a darker vibe that reminisces Brand New. When we approach writing songs it tends to be different every time. Sometimes we have an idea that is written individually by one of us and then we bring it to the table and dissect it. We love writing music as much as we love performing so we always end up having all these ideas that we don’t use but every once in awhile we reference those songs and come up with something that sticks. What do you hope your listeners take away from your cover of "Cute Without The 'E' (Cut From The Team)"? At the end of the day we just hope that people just dig what we did with the song. It was such a big part of our adolescent years, it shaped and molded us. So we just want to do right by the song. Maybe Taking Back Sunday will even give us a thumbs up, hahah!! What are your thoughts on mainstream music today? We personally love mainstream music, we always try to add some of its aesthetics to whatever we are doing. If it makes you feel something then to us it’s a good song. A lot of artists like to bash mainstream music but realistically if you want to be noticed you have to be catchy. What’s the best thing that could happen for you right now as a band? We would love to land a major tour we’ve done a handful of tours and that’s where our heart is. Being able to perform in different cities and meeting fans that understand our music like we do is all we could ask for. Oh and having Taking Back Sunday hear and like our rendition of Cute Without The “E.” Keep up with I Fight Fail through social media! www.instagram.com/ifightfail #BuzzMusic
