- Jack Nooney Talks About His Newest Single "Why Can't I Breathe"
Welcome back to BuzzMusic! We love your new track “Why Can’t I Breathe”! What inspired this song? ‘Why Can’t I Breathe’ was inspired by one studio session. I was by myself just trying to write a song that I wanted to hear. The beat was inspired by hiphop because I wanted that kind of style, but the vocals are very inspired by the Beatles with all the harmonies and high vocals that I sang. The whole song came together in about a 2-3 hour session, and was mixed and mastered that same day. What emotions did you have to channel when curating the lyrics? For the emotion of the entire track I wanted it to sound sad but powerful at the same time. The melody that I sang in the chorus just came to me out of nowhere and I stuck with it. I really just wanted the whole thing to sound like a cry for help, and sound very emotional. To me it is like a hiphop or r&b ballad. The drums are very hiphop, but the instrumentation is very r&b, while the lyrics are very pop or rock like. What do you hope your listeners take away from your new EP “Songs For You”? When listening to my new EP I want people to really hear how I was feeling at that time. The song ‘Take Me To The Stars’ was from a beat I made on instagram live and the lyrics just naturally came to me. Or when someone hears ‘Watch The Sunrise’ I want it to feel like summer, and being outside all day. Each song is like a part of my life that I imagined or lived. It hasn’t been long since we wrote about your song “Get Back In Line”. How do you keep yourself on track to write and record so consistently? I feel like I keep myself on track by just living my life. Songs come to me, or a melody comes to me. It is usually inspiration, then I go and record it. Or I go into the studio and try to come up with something that I really like. Most of the time the sessions are good but recently I have had a few bad ones. It is all about wanting for me. I want to make music, I want to go write a song because that is what I want to do with my life. What’s next for you? Right now I want to focus on releasing singles and reaching a wider audience. I want to spend time connecting with people and really try to get my name out there. I want to try to make it big. Other than that, I am working on a song for people to be featured on, and trying to be more collaborative with my work. But for right now you can stream my new EP ‘Songs For You’ everywhere. - Catching Up With Dani Nisim!
Welcome back Dani! What have you been up to since the release of “Diamond Love”? Since the release of Diamond love, I’ve been writing and recording a ton of new music, and planning out my next performances for the rest of 2019. I’m also working with a couple really amazing artists and DJs! There are some songs I’m featured on, that I’m beyond excited about and can’t wait to announce! Congratulations on the release of “Chase You”! We love it. Was this your first time working with producer Scott Storch? What was the creation process like? Thank you! I was given the opportunity to work with Scott about 2 years ago, where he also introduced me to the insanely talented Joelle James. It was my first time in a real, professional studio setting and I was beyond nervous. But Scott and Joelle made the process really easy and fun, and “Chase You” was the product. The whole experience and outcome from it, is really what launched my career. I’m extremely grateful for all of it! Can you dive into some details about the lyrics in “Chase You”? What emotions did you channel when creating this track? When writing this track, I really wanted to channel the feeling of self empowerment and self worth. The main “tag line” that was the inspiration for it was: Why would I chase you, if I’m the catch? Joelle and I took that and ran with it, because there is so much behind that one line. The emotions range from being hurt and upset, to feeling empowered and bad-ass. Once we realize our own worth, we can start cutting off the toxic people around us who don’t see that same quality. And it’s all up from there What are your main aspirations as an artist going forward? Going forward, I hope to not only release more music and collabs, but I really would like to use my music as a platform for self love and empowerment, as well as being an advocate for mental health. Music has been such an important part of my life, and has helped me through every high and low I’ve been through. And I strive for my music to be able to have that same effect for others. What’s one of the biggest lessons you’ve learned as an artist over time? One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned through my experiences in the industry, is that no one will work harder for you than yourself. I know this seems obvious, but as a singer and a writer... I really only knew how to sing and write music, but there are SO many different things that go into the process. So I took every opportunity I could to learn more and more about the “behind the scenes” things, like music production and the business/law side of music. The more you can learn and understand about all aspects of your career, the more control and progress you can have. The second I stopped blindly depending on everyone around me, and started asking questions instead, I was able to grow and do so much more in my career. - Masha Brings Sultry Nuances With New Single “You Make Me”
“You Make Me” presents a somewhat nostalgic yet brilliantly crisp and infectious sense of rhythm. The beat and the backdrop lay out a colorful soundscape. Meanwhile, this unexpected wind-driven riff floats around in the outer edges, building a broader arena of warmth within the composition. Focuses on a theme of love, lust and desire “You Make Me” give us a retrospective look at Masha’s inner thoughts and feelings. There’s a refreshing touch of originality to Masha’s performance and indeed to this unique blend of genres. It’s clear that genre and style don’t confine Masha. Songwriting and a love for music in general are what drives the creation of her authentic tracks. Masha is a singer/songwriter from Edmonton, Canada. She began her music career at the age of six, when she started piano lessons with the Royal Conservatory of Music. At eleven years old, she began taking an interest in pop and R&B music, which led to the writing of her first song. In May of 2018, Masha released her first two singles, which she wrote and composed herself. Masha continues to embark on her music journey as she is writing and composing more music. She continues to perform and is currently working hard in the studio towards finishing her debut album! Stay tuned! Check out “You Make Me” here and read more with Masha below! Hey Masha! Welcome to BuzzMusic! How did you get started in the music industry? "Hey! Thank you very much for having me! I started off when I was six, when I began taking piano lessons and that led me to my passion for music. When I was about 11, I started writing and composing my own music and from there I began performing at local shows which has brought me to where I am now! " Was there a specific event/person in your life that made you get into music/ start recording your material? "A huge impact on me when it comes to my music has been my dad. My parents have been beyond supporting with my music and my career, but my dad has truly had a great impact. My dad was in a band when he was younger and his love for music inspired me to pursue it and to really push myself everyday! He’s helped me develop as an artist and has given me lots of amazing guidance throughout the years." Who are you musical influences and how do they help shape your sound? "There are so many artists who I really look up to and who have influenced me so much. Certain artists such as Etta James, Nina Simone, Adele, Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Sam Smith have really inspired me growing up and to this day. Their music speaks for itself as these are some truly talented artists. I definitely believe that listening to these artists religiously has shaped my sound in a way that they’ve taught me to express my emotions and feelings through my music, and that’s exactly what music is- an artistic outlet. " What does “You Make Me” mean to you? What do you want your listeners to take away from it? "You Make Me is essentially a song about infatuation, and being so infatuated with somebody that you lose yourself a little bit in the process. I can definitely say that this song is very personal to me in a way that everything I’m singing and speaking of, has been something that I’ve felt. But I think the biggest thing to take away from this song is that people can be confusing with what they want, and sometimes misleading; and its important to know what you want for yourself and to make it very clear. " Can we have any hint at a release date for your upcoming album? "That's a very good question… there is an album in the works right now and it's been a lot of hard work to get all my tracks produced but there is no definite or set date for the upcoming album. But make sure to stay tuned cause lots is coming! " Stay connected with Masha: www.themasha.ca www.instagram.com/mashavuk www.facebook.com/mashasongs #BuzzMusic

- J-LeScientific Brings The Energy And Motivation With “Push”
Talented Haitian-Canadian artist J-LeScientific is from Montreal’s hottest spots. He atarted rapping and writing at the age of 10, reflecting the hard reality he was living in. As he was really connected to the culture, he was doing graffiti, beat boxing, and rapping since he was young to escape from the harsh and dangerous life. Hip-hop music allowed J to fully embrace his creativity, and equally helped him explore himself and develop himself as a person. J has a passion for creating music, and also has a passion for dancing that extends to multiple genres. He feels strongly about the injustices of police brutality and corruption, and the systemic injustices that plague the black community in the modern day. Although he feels this way, his music reflects a more positive side. The vocals shine brightly throughout “Push”, always presenting J-LeScientific with a clear sense of identity, as well as unquestionable skills performance-wise. You get to enjoy the warm and uplifting embrace of the soundscape that works hard to light up the room. What makes this release all the more effective is the way the whole thing utilizes contrast structurally to let each section hit with impact. There are numerous stops and starts, moments in which the weight of the music falls away almost completely, laying bare J-LeScientific’s inspiring words to smash back on to the scene with absolute precision and skill. This gives “Push” an addictive level of character and energy. You get into it, you’re involved, and the journey continues to weave and change as you witness the passion of the story-line and that soulful melody pouring through it. A more than worthy release, “Push” is well worth a spin at max volume. Listen to “Push” here and read more with J-LeScientific below! Hey J-LeScientific! Welcome to BuzzMusic. How do you think your upbringing shaped you as a well-rounded artist? 'I have learned to embrace the good and the bad, therefore as an artist i always try to find the in-between, because this means things have been balanced' What do you do to feed your passion for music daily? 'Well I write when ever I have time to, write down what's on my mind. What does “Push” mean to you? How do you want your listeners to feel when they hear it? Push means everything, you gotta move past to future and keep on trying your best. I want people to feel like courage from within them and motivation to move forward and fight on How does this track “Push” compare to one of your earliest tracks? How have you improved/evolved as an artist? Message is more clear and there is more energy from me. Since this track i'm more open to try other sides of my self that i thought wouldn't have been good If you could collaborate with any artist, dead or alive, who would you choose and why? Honestly, i would of choose Jay Rock, because we have the same perceptions when it comes to the streets and because he's style and he's passive agressivity would of perfectly fit the way i strangle the beat. A great collab Stay connected with the artist! www.instagram.com/j.lescientific www.facebook.com/J.LeScientific #BuzzMusic
- Jordan Mosley Showcases Multi-Skill Set In “Summertime Dreamland”
Starting off his music endeavors in Tacoma, Washington, Jordan Mosley was solely a rapper and only did any singing at home, to himself. Never thinking he would develop into the R&B artit he is today. He listened to hip-hop with a studying ear, sharpening his craft. However, while taking breaks from all that he listened to nothing but classic jazz and standards. He wouldn’t admit it then, but Jordan found himself more in love with the voice of Ella than B.I.G. In his constant pursuit to implement jazz into his music without the familiar looped jazz samples that hip hop had already deeply implemented, Jordan started adding jazz melodies to his hooks. Jordan gave way in the internal tug-a-war between rapping and singing and ultimately decided to make singing he primary focus. In February 2019 Jordan Mosley independently dropped his new single “Protector”, alongside its music video directed by Trevor Stevens. Jordan Mosley’s next single “Summertime Dreamland” is an R&B wave of catchy melodies, layers of rhythmic textures and inspirationally emotional lyrics. The track starts off on a strong foot and continues to subtly work hard for your affection throughout. Jordan Mosley’s voice meanders through this R&B-style melody with a certain air of quiet confidence, it doesn’t overpower the clear emotion and authenticity in his voice, far from it. Managing to effectively balance organic musicianship, a clean, stylish vocal, an acoustic guitar outro, a spacious soundscape in general and flickers of electronic ambiance and personality, “Summertine Dreamland” creates a quickly likable vibe and makes for a recognizable yet not intrusive new pop/R&B song. There’s a smooth and honest aura to the whole performance, including the writing and smooth delivery of every moment. We love this track and can't wait to hear what Jordan Mosley brings us next! Check out “Summertime Dreamland” here and read more in our exclusive interview below! Welcome to BuzzMusic Jordan Mosley! Can you dive into the lyrics of “Summertime Dreamland”? Sure. You ever feel like you want to be fully enveloped in someone? Where they’re your light source, they’re your heat source, their essence is your mood? [“You’re like me scenic path to the sun. Love you to pieces then gather you up.”] You're the road I travel and my destination. I’ll love you even when you’re broken and I’ll hold you together. ["You are my sunshine after it goes down. I want to love like I really know how.”] You keep my life bright even in its darkest of times. I know I have some learning to do but I want to love you like we’ve been doing it for 50 years. Successfully. [“I’m like the spring, I got growing to do. But here’s the thing, I bloom only for you.”] At times though I feel like you're on a level I'm working to get to, in many facets of my existence, but for you I'm willing to push to get there. [“I know I front like I’m fully bloom now. Just want to love like it 92 out.”] I know I’m no the greatest yet but I want to make love to you like I am. And until we’re hot and we’re sweaty. [“Spend the night giving light to me. You’re the right sort of light I need.”] Take the whole night putting your body against mine. And your body is the perfect fit to mine. [“Fantasize at the sight of you. Can’t deny, life’d be brighter if you were close by.”] I’m creating new fantasies of things I want to do with you in the future. You make me better. [“No Lie. Temperature more high. Keeping my poor wide.”] It’s purely the truth that I’m sick in love with you. [“Open up and relate to me. Hold the touch of your rays on me.”] Let me come into and let’s make love while you grip your arms around me. [“ Focus all your energy. Close in close on me while I hold your, Summertime Dreamland.”] Don’t think about any. thing. else. I’ll hold you steady. What inspired the creation of this track? My music is often a very "in my head type of vibe" but I think I needed something light, something simple and enjoyable, that many could relate to. I myself needed a mental break. To just relax and vibe out to the cool breeze moving through the window at 6:15pm as the sun melts into background. And while fantasizing about that close physical affection, of coarse. I mean, what else right? That’s all I used to do from my tweens to my teens up into my adulthood while listening to Stan Getz color my mind with the tenor sax. So, hopefully with this song I can color some minds to fantasize that same way. Where do you generally get your inspiration from, and is there anything outside of music that drives you creatively? Inspiration comes from everywhere - from anything. I kind of think too much so I can over analyze anything. I definitely think about love and life, the fragility of life, the purpose of life, the small nuances in life that inadvertently have a huge affect on life - almost perpetually. Do you ever revert back to your rapping style of music? Yeah for sure! I still love rapping and even have new music coming out with me rapping in it. Not sing-rap but actually rapping. I sing….and then I rap….and then I sing again. Rapping will always be a part of my music. Can we expect a possible collaboration on a future track? Yes, I working on it at the moment. Collabing with an awesome female artist I met at Unplugd LA who’s got a super cool voice. It's going to be stellar. Do you have a larger project on the way in the near future? At one point I was all about putting out an EP. Traditionally that’s an awesome idea and I’m sure I’ll do that someday. But I thought, maybe that isn’t the way anymore. You know, people consume music or any content for that matter like a buffet. We appetize on IG post, main coarse with a little bit of film, a gluttonous helping of TV, and a side of music. And sense I’m the artist no body really knows yet, I’m like the flavor of food they haven’t tried yet. They might like it, but they won’t seek it out. So I gotta keep putting it in there face to remind them “Remember this?! You liked this. You LIKE it! But you keep hitting that same orange chicken. I’m that Beijing Beef you loved last time you were here.” Lol might be pore analogy but putting music out more consistently seems to be a better reminder opposed to spending time a money a project you may or may not put once a year. I could put out only one song a month and look more consistent. Same amount of music only with a spread out release. So currently, that’s my strategy. What do you hope to achieve through the end of 2019? I simply hope to gain a solid fan base who consistently listen and look forward to more music from me. That’d be awesome. - “Psychic” By Idarose Is Dream Synth Pop From A New-Age Hopeless Romantic
Singer/songwriter and producer Idarose has never been genre-bound. She has a knack for helping new artists develop their sound. Idarose composes music for film, and is currently writing a full length musical. Through these endeavors, Idarose has been discovering the musical gestures that truly reflect her artistry. With an ear for the sophisticated harmony of film music, an aptitude for theater-esque storytelling, and a hand in the pop world, Idarose has begun to carve out her own sonic space and craft her enchanting sound. It was evident from an early age that Alexis Idarose Kesselman looked at the world a bit differently. She would later learn that the colors she saw in her mind when listening to music came from a combination of perfect pitch and synesthesia. “Psychic” is the latest Idarose song we’re bumping on repeat. When Idarose’s vocals open up in “Psychic”, her tone is mesmerizing, equipped with breathy verses, she sounds every bit her own vocalist. A catchy melody rumbles and drives right through the heart of this song, insistently underpinning the satisfying chord changes that refuse to be ignored. It’s clearly been loved and there’s buzz and warmth and bubbly synths at the edges, too. The song feels like it’s breathing as it takes you on a journey through the motions. We are granted a rich listening experience that flies in the face of the meaningful lyrics that deal with concepts of love and desire, and is built up with a clever backing vocal arrangement which all drives to a satisfying broken-down outro. Based on the passion and commitment demonstrated within Psychic”, I can’t wait to see what’s in store for Idarose! Listen to “Psychic” here and read more with Idarose below! Hi Idarose! Tell us more about your new single “Psychic”! What inspired it? Once upon a time (back in December), I was seeing this guy and I was feeling really unsure about the whole thing. I liked him, but part of me felt like it would never last, almost like I had this inclination it just wouldn’t work out. One day after we hung out, I was brainstorming some lyrics and I wrote them down in my notes app. I got home and came up with the concept of being a psychic and being able to predict that it wouldn’t work out. After writing a draft of the song, I actually showed my mom - she liked the song, but told me I should be more optimistic about my situation so I changed the lyric from “baby I’m a psychic” to “baby I’m no psychic.” Funny enough, the guy situation did not work out, but I did get a song out of it. What do you aspire to achieve as an artist? I really want to pave the way for other female artists to feel in control of their own projects. The process of creating “Psychic” was so fulfilling for me because I was truly leading every aspect - the writing, the production, the mixing, the branding, etc. I’d love to inspire other women to unabashedly make music and to demand to be in control, because our opinions matter. What do you hope your listeners take away from “Psychic”? It’s funny - I wrote the song about one guy, but the song has applied to a few other situations I’ve gone through. At its core, “Psychic” is about being at the start of a relationship and having absolutely no idea where it’s going - it’s exciting because it could be the love you’ve been waiting for and it’s scary because it could be another heartbreak. We find ourselves stuck in the “in-between” (the late night-can’t sleep-heart beating out of chest feelings) because we have to go through it, there’s no other way. Do you have any upcoming events or shows you’d like to talk about? Just moved to Los Angeles, so not yet - but once I get settled, hopefully will have some shows coming up! What’s next for you!? We can’t wait to hear more! I’ll be releasing lots more in 2019, maybe another single in October leading to an EP very soon! Keep up with Idarose through social media! www.instagram.com/idarosemusic www.facebook.com/IdaroseMusic #BuzzMusic
- INTERVIEW: BuzzMusic Talks With Saugasson
Hey Saugasson! Can you briefly give our BuzzMusic readers a sense of who you are as a Rap/Hip-Hop artist? As a rap/hiphop artist I am simply me. I don’t have a template i follow nor do i replicate anything i have seen or heard i just do me. "Nf / Never Fail" is robust and explosive in the best ways possible! How was the production of the album? Did you run into any creative bumps while curating? Thank you! & The production of this single was pretty fun actually and I didn’t run into any issues i actually made this song fairly quick and easily. What would you say allows you to stay in tune with who you are as an artist? I would say my personality and just who i am as a person; unwilling to be what i am not and completely open being myself. Those are the reasons i can stay in tune with who i am as an artist. Would you say that your music is highly reflective on you and your experiences thus far? How do you come up with the predominant inspirations behind your music? In my music i only write of real life experiences and emotions. So therefore my music ends up being very much reflective on my current experiences and of me. My predominant inspiration behind my music is life itself everything around me, everything i feel and everyone I interact with is potential inspiration. We're anticipating the release of your album "Miss Karter". How's the production coming along? Is there a set release date yet?! Aha, well the production is on its way and it should be done relatively soon. However, I don’t have a release date just yet but you will be one of the first to know! Your album "Life, Vol 1." was an incredible journey through your artistry. How did the curation of the album go overall? I just took my real life situations, and experiences, and put them in perspective from my point of view, and delivered precisely into my style of music, and trusted the process. The various vibes we feel throughout the album are eccentric, heavy-hitting, dark, yet incredibly robust and energetic at other points. What a wide range of feelings you get from "Life, Vol. 1"! Were you going for that kind of eclecticism? While recording the album I was just staying true to myself, and what I do, as in real life, as in the title of the album, You have ups and downs in relationships, and in society, you have sunshine, you have rainstorms, so I just bought my situations to the for front and this is what you have "eclecticism". What's the best piece of artistic advice you could give to an independent Hip/Hop artist, just starting out? Just stay true to yourself , believe in your progression, your journey, don't worry about the glitz, and glamour. Remain true to your artistry, and trust and believe in it and you'll love the outcome. Are you planning on showcasing your album through any upcoming performances? - Independent Artist PATH P Drop Much-Anticipated LP “Revolution & Legacy, Volume II: The Legacy”
Independent Recording artist, PATH P (Positioned At The Highest Point), aka Colin Lawton, is a talented lyricist born & raised in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, NY. His music provides a soundscape of healing, empowerment and overall enrichment of the soul, serving as a lyrically charged voice on behalf of the people. Writing rhymes off and on since the age of 16 with the inspiration of longtime friend, Ganz Gutta, PATH P officially realized the love and passion for making music, particularly hip-hop, back in 2008 and has since embarked on the career path to bring his brand of socially aware and creatively charged hip hop to the forefront of the worldwide masses. Path P’s long awaited 3rd LP, “Revolution & Legacy, Volume II: The Legacy”, a 15-track eclectic soundscape featuring original beat production by producer, MythMuzik. #RandLv2 is PATH’s most vulnerable lyrical display yet, telling his storied exploration of his legacy, running the gamut from growing up fatherless to dealing with love, depression, social responsibility and coming to terms with the impact of his artistry and personal successes thus far. “Light’s On” explodes into view, lighting up the road ahead for the brand new LP. A brilliantly crisp and chaotic alternative project that showcases a whole new side to the already creatively free and consistently striking artist. PATH P exercises his unpredictable lyricism and expressive, theatrical vocal style in a continuously engrossing manner. Fragments of ideas, dark and intriguing, alongside short lines and quick rhymes make this one you’ll undoubtedly need to hear more than once to really connect with it. In between moments of intensity there are delicate musical intricacies throughout this playlist – dashes of instrumentals, melodies and hooks that craft engaging, alternative hip-hop ambiances. “Zero” makes the most out of all of this, a few simple elements but each one unexpected and free-flowing – rhythmic but artistic, and always more in tune with the progression of the story-line than a simple industry standard. “Abyss” is absolutely a highlight. Bringing through an upbeat energy, the pace and vibrancy of the track fused with a clever structure, PATH P’s story-telling and compelling vocal delivery, makes for something incredibly uplifting and refreshing to experience. “My Soul” follows on with a relentless, breathless vocal, alongside another tribal beat and plenty of space. The lyrics, the depth of the concept, and the performance are what drive. No flashy details or layers are needed, and to contrast with PATH’s intensity and wit you also get a gentle, soulful vocals providing a melodic aspect that helps keep things moving. “Now” Ft. Nefertiti Gold injects a hit of haunting darkness, a musically fuller soundscape with a string-like backdrop and a manic piano riff meet the high energy of PATH’s vocal and ideas in a powerful way. “Until” Ft. ROB (Rise On Belief) fuses age-old synths with a light and familiar beat, a hint of world-inspired instrumentation, PATH P offers some of his most provocative and interesting lyrics yet. “No Weapon” presents a moment of calm and contemplated reflection, an enjoyable bass-line and a rise-and-fall chord progression create the perfect groove for this hard-hitting presentation. “Dreams v Nightmares” (Interlude) is an acapella break as well as a clever feature of intelligently sourced lyricism. PATH P’s truth runs free on “Dreams v Nightmares” Ft. Mickey Factz, in subtle but certain and smart ways, and this is the final building block that takes the album higher than ever. “Vibes” Ft. Brixx stands out by a mile for its striking introduction, performance-based with a clear bit of scene-setting, and an addictive riff to top it off. Soon enough the sound of today’s hip hop landscape joins forces with this creatively free approach, making for a track that hits hard yet feels strangely gentle at the same time; partly peaceful yet clearly manic and rightfully lost within its own intention and concept. The verses kick in with an appropriate intensity and pace. “Been Dope” Ft. Rayne Storm is another highlight for similar reasons! You don’t expect the outpouring of melody and emotion that opens up a whole new corner of the project. The lyrics hold tight to your attention, the music suits the mood of these words, and the performances strike as completely genuine and authentically connected to the bars at play throughout. Towards the end, “Ain't Worried (World Is Mine)” proves a further testament to PATH P’s new-found creative freedom. What do you hope your listeners take away from “Revolution & Legacy, Volume II: The Legacy”? Many thanks! One of the major takeaways I always pray my listeners get from my music in general, but specifically from this album, is the importance of being as authentic as possible with self; understand there’s a great power in being vulnerable, not only with others, but with yourself first. That’s a major key when it comes to mastering one’s life journey. I feel we’ve been cultivated to deal very much & very closely with the external forces and to kind of leave whatever’s happening with the internal aside, as if it’s not as important as the validation of others or what we’re being told to enjoy or pay attention to or love or the like is all outside of ourselves. We’ve been taught to address our problems by either putting them on others or needing other people to “complete” us, whether emotionally or spiritually and things will be better in instances where they are just not. That’s just not the case. And that’s not to say don’t rely on people or don’t connect with people, no, because even at the same time we’ve been taught this sense of radical individualism. It’s a weird sandbox we’ve been forced to play in. We get to seek help, but first we get to acknowledge and really be with the circumstances we’re internally plagued with; we get to heal on our own terms by first looking at self and with that understanding of self, we can build on the healing process and ultimately get to an effective space of coexisting with others and build space for others to heal as well, without it being a codependent, energy-sucking experience, to put it bluntly. “The Legacy” is an exploration of self, while looking at what my legacy has been up to now and what it will be because I said so and trust in my process, and I would love for it to be a space for healing and for others to feel they’re not along in their processes and get to look at their legacy, their impact on the world, in the same way, big or small. We all have the capability to impact the world in ways we can’t imagine, until it happens. What emotions did you channel when creating this LP? “The Legacy” took a few years to really complete, between writing and the recording, mixing and mastering process. So it’s a culmination of diving deep into various emotions I was going through during that time and even coming to terms with a lot of emotions I had battled with since the beginning of my career: fear, frustration, confusion, anger, love, joy, disappointment, sadness, pride… I really ran the gamut, yet I feel this project - beautifully composed like a soundtrack to Life by the big homie, MythMuzik – successfully encapsulates all those emotions to paint a picture of a man no different than any other human being in the trials, tribulations and triumphs he goes through. What do you aspire to achieve as an artist? Global impact. I want to know when I’m truly, truly done with this somewhere very far down the road… I’ve left this earth with an invaluable, incomparable connection to humans across the globe that took the time to listen to and experience my artistry. That I’ve touched their souls in a way only I could and I’ve been at least part of the spark to the mind(s) that will change the world for the greater. I get a strong sense that you read a lot and think a little more deeply on things than most – where do you generally get your inspiration from, and is there anything outside of hip hop that drives you creatively? (poetry, books, movies, politics, etc.) I consider myself a humble observer and consumer of what the world has to offer me, daily. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become more and more accustomed to connecting deeper with others, whether to understand or be of direct support through their plights and their joys. I’ve always been big on critical analysis, so I’ve grown to decipher information as it comes in and read between the lines of what’s not being said, whether it’s news on social media or in the streets. I stay away from mainstream media news as much as possible, because it’s not real to me, and sadly it’s getting worse. I try to learn from people more, especially those who’ve traversed this earth much longer than I have. I “chew up the fat and spit out the bone” as my wife would say, meaning take the core parts of the provided details that are truly relevant and paramount to the main point and throw away the extra pieces that don’t effectively serve the narrative. I also learn a lot from & with my wife, who’s a poet and professor, so she’s highly well-learned, and we have regular conversations unpacking the world around us, which greatly helps, even when I can’t see 100%, and vice versa. I’ve been reading much more, as well. I watch documentaries based in one way or another on our human condition and even regular movies to unpack how storytelling has been impacted by societal dictation of our experiences; like, my wife and I don’t just watch movies to watch movies, there’s always an underlying story being told under the story being told that we always feel is important to pay attention to just as much as the main story. There are signs all around us, we as humans don’t by and large always pay attention as much as we should, but we’d be better prepared if we did more often. So, a lot of this regular exploration tends to fuel how I create and the messaging I put forth in my art. What’s the hope for you going forward in 2019 and beyond? I’ve grown to do my best to trust rather than hope when it comes to my future, ha ha, as I believe in intention, in word and in thought. So my trust is for the remainder of the year and beyond, more people get to experience the music, experience the message and share it with others; have conversations about it; learn more about my past work in the process; get a greater understanding of who I am as an artist, as a man, as a black man in America, as a human, experiencing my human experience… And understand how it can translate into what’s possible for them and what comes up for them, what’s relevant of course. My trust is more music will be made, (which it will, as there’s much in the works) more collaborations, more travel, more shows in new territories as well as old ones. I also trust the music – and I, in general - will get even better, as I’ve learned to be in competition only with my previous self. I’m looking to expand the soundscape, so I’m excited for what’s to come. Discover more on PATH P and stay tuned with upcoming releases & shows via social media: Facebook Instagram Twitter #BuzzMusic
