  • Experience the Ups And Downs Of Love With Simon Ocean’s Debut “My Enemy, My Love”

Born in Miami, singer/songwriter Simon Ocean was moved in and out of various countries throughout his childhood. Simon gained a unique outlook on life through his diverse upbringing. At the age of 7, Simon began writing music as a way to capture his experiences. After keeping his music to himself and close friends, Simon decided to step out of his shell and began writing for various artist at the age of 15 as a way of keeping his professional and personal life separate. Now writing for over a decade, Simon is ready to showcase his talents as a solo artist to the world. “My Enemy, My Love” is Simon Ocean’s debut single and we can’t get enough. With so much songwriting experience already, it’s no surprise that “My Enemy, My Love” has a powerful lyrical presence. Simon weaves through storytelling elements and gives us a retrospective look at the love and war that takes place during relationships. He questions how someone he loves can become his enemy during disagreements. Simon flawlessly curates a relatable debut single, “My Enemy, My Love” contains heavy subject matter but remains upbeat and catchy throughout. It’s the perfect dueling opposite for an alluring hit! With an incredible launch into the music industry with “My Enemy” we can’t wait to see what Simon Ocean delivers next. Check out “My Enemy, My Love” here and red more below in our exclusive interview with Simon Ocean! Hi Simon! Welcome to BuzzMusic! Can you start by telling us more about yourself, where do you reside now? Im a singer-songwriter who has been writing for other artists since I was a teenager, finally getting ready to release my own music this year.  Ive actually moved around a lot my whole (went to 14 different schools) bouncing from place to place but home base was always Miami. Last year I moved to the NYC area but I bounce between Boston, Nashville and L.A. Who are your musical influences? How do they inspire you? My musical influences are all over the spectrum. Obviously who wasn’t influenced by Michael Jackson? But I was influenced by everyone from the Backstreet Boys to The Killers to Nirvana to Bon Jovi, Cant you tell I are up in the 90’s to early 2000’s? I also make music in Spanish so another bilingual Miami native who inspires me quite a bit is actually Enrique Iglesias. My sound is so all over the place that its hard to pinpoint a specific artist, but right now Ive actually been inspired a lot by what Jared Leto is doing with 30 seconds to mars and balancing pop + alt rock. We love your debut single “My Enemy, My Love”! Can you dive into more details about the lyrics? I actually started writing it as an alternative rock song with the electric guitar you hear in the intro being one of the first things I drew from. The lyrics are about an issue in one of my relationships, if you listen closely you can hear what it was. I then threw more of a dancehall inspired beat to channel other emotions I couldn’t match with the lyrics. What emotions did you channel when writing this track? As the sound evolved into more of a pop song it actually surrounded the emotions of missing my hometown of Miami, I had recently lost some people close to me and being separated made me miss everything from the tropical weather to the spirit of the city.I was in a very melancholic state which is why I chose to not really emote a lot in the melodies, I wanted to channel the mood of nothing really affecting me whether it was happy or sad. What’s next for Simon Ocean? My next project should (fingers crossed) be out in September. The plan is to have a new song (not counting features and writing credits) out every month until 2020. Some of it might not be in english (hint hint). Connect with Simon Ocean on social media www.instagram.com/simon.ocean #BuzzMusic

  • Ari Tahan’s “Idiot” Pulls You In With Gorgeous Vocals and Vibrant Melodies

Enchanting pop artist Ari Tahan from Guildford, Surrey uses powerful lyrics and melodies to present a passionate and emotional sound experience. When Ariwas younger she attended Notre Dame, Cobham where she took part in School Choirs, had private singing lessons and received her first guitar at age 12 which enabled her to learn how to play and write her own songs. Young Ari also attended the Italia Conti Arts Centre in Guildford twice a week from age 8 to 16 and was more drawn to contemporary music as she grew older, leading her to achieve a diploma and degree from The Academy of Contemporary Music after 3 years. At 17, Ari met singer-songwriter, Judie Tzuke, and got her first step into professionally recording her music along with getting studio experience. Ari has performed at BBC Introducing Live at Tobacco Docks as well as being chosen by BBC Introducing Radio as “Feature Artist”. Don’t get fooled by the electric tones at the beginning of “Idiot”, a passionate pop track with stunning vocals and emotional lyrics that connect with the listener on a personal level. Ari’s voice has touches of Christina Aguilera and Shakira blended with a strong, exuberant base that showcases that she was born with talent. I personally love the range that Ari is capable of and clearly represents it throughout “Idiot” as well as the level of writing skill that she has presented at such a young age. The beats that follow the gorgeous vocals are vibrant, and blend together beautifully to create a unique musical atmosphere through “Idiot”. “Idiot, your pushing me away” is one of the main lyrical lines that can be found emphasized throughout the track, giving the hint that this song is about relationship pains that listeners can relate to easily, and Ari has done a wonderful job creating a song that really draws in an audience. I am a huge fan of the power that is being delivered through “Idiot” so fantastically by Ari, and I believe that she is an artist to keep an eye out for as this song is a complete hit. Listen to Idiot here and get to know more about Ari Tahan below! Hey Ari! You have a wonderful voice! Can you tell us a bit more about yourself? Hey hey!! Aww thank you ever so much, that means a lot coming from you guys! I’m 22, and I am currently based in Guildford, Surrey. I grew up in a lovely little town called Walton-on-Thames and went to a school called Notre Dame in Cobham which was very musical as well as academic and I was very grateful to have both advantages. I was part of School Choirs and I was very committed to attending the Italia Conti Arts Centre in Guildford twice a week. After my GCSE exams at school, I went on to study at The Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM), where I ended up spending 3 years gaining my diploma and degree! Some of my musical highlights so far include performing at BBC Introducing Live at Tobacco Docks, as well as being chosen as 'feature artist' of the week on BBC Introducing Radio. I have also had the pleasure of writing with well respected singer-songwriter, Judie Tzuke on a few of my upcoming singles! As well as being an artist, I perform in a full covers band and in an acoustic duo/trio at various holiday resorts, private events and restaurants every other weekend. I also have a part time job as a support worker for disabled young adults alongside my music career which I love doing. Can you describe the first moment that you knew music was going to be your life-long passion? I was given a microphone when I was 2 making funny noises, I have plenty of funny videos! But the true moment was in 2nd grade when I was 6 years old and I sang on stage for the first time in my school talent show singing ‘A Whole New World’ from Aladdin! I will never forget the feeling. I knew music meant so much to me at that age because I forgot a lyric on stage in front of the whole school and I remember crying my eyes out thinking it was the end of the world. I only wanted to improve and keep getting better, this was the moment I just knew I wanted to keep going. What is the meaning behind “Idiot” and did you face any challenges during the creative process? The song is about a previous toxic relationship. It’s about how my self esteem was taken away from me, and how I felt isolated and insecure during and after the relationship. I didn’t want to release this song until everything had blown over as well as getting the sound to be exactly how I visioned it. I have been holding onto this song for a while and I wrote it because I realised that the ‘idiot’ who lied to me and broke my heart wasn’t worth my time anymore and I finally realised my own self worth and dignity. I feel that releasing this song is a sense letting go of the insecurity he gave to me. The creative process was actually really enjoyable! It was one of those songs that just came out so naturally and I loved working on it with my producer (David Goodes) and Co-writer (Judie Tzuke). It is my favourite song of mine to perform live! Where do you draw your lyrical inspiration from? Just from how I am truly feeling or what I believe in and real life situations! I can’t write a song about something I can’t relate to, it has to come from my heart. Tell us what we can expect to see from you in 2019. You can be sure to see 3 more singles this year including ‘Idiot’. The other two singles are called ‘Underwater’ and ‘Who will you be?’. Music videos are in the making too! I’m also self producing some covers of my favorite songs! I will be gigging here and there of course too! You can keep up to date by following me on social media @aritahanmusic. • “Listen To Me” By Richard Berger Is a Smooth Track With Chill Summer Vibes

Originally from the East Coast, Richard Berger is an alternative chill rock artist. He moved to LA 13 years ago and has been following his passion for music for many years. His first EP “Not There” was released in November 2018. Followed up by his single “In My Head” January 2019, and another spectacular piece “All The Love” April 2019. Richard is a singer, keyboardist and guitarist. Every EP and single was written and recorded in his home studio. Richard Berger is always releasing ambient hits and we can’t get enough. This especially goes for his newest track “Listen To Me”.  The track starts off with funky and retro guitars, the synth keys enter and paint the melody for a catchy and unique chill vibe. As “Listen To Me” transitions, it tells a story within the lyricism. Richard Berger makes music that the melody climbs and falls sporadically, it creates a perfect chaos that just makes sense. With a softer beat and lighter musical arrangements, it has you honed in on Berger’s vast knowledge in music production. His vocals are finely-tuned and it’s hard to believe that this is all done within a home studio. We love the consistency and versatility of Riichard Bergers tracks and can’t wait to see what he does next! Check out “Listen To Me” here! • Anthony Levone Impresses Us With His Incredible Flow In "What It's Like"

Anthony Levone is an artist you're going to want to keep an eye out for (we already are). As a relatively new R&B/hip-hop artist, Anthony is distinct with the sound he produces. Anthony is the type of artist that puts out music unique to the listeners ear, and we're obsessing over the type of ambiance he makes us feel when we're listening. You can really feel the power and emotion Anthony embeds within his productions, and we honestly appreciate that sense of honesty when it comes to artistry. We appreciate the artists who give it their all with expressing their feelings, and we can truly say that Anthony empowers his listeners through this surge of emotion within his music. Anthony's latest single "What It's Like" is giving us some J.Cole vibes on the production side, and we're all for this kind of vibe Anthony Levone is giving to us as listeners. His lyricism is catchy, and holds a lot of irony. "What It's Like" is that kind of track where you feel elegant and surging with confidence while listening to. Anthony knows how to captivate the listener with his distinct and assertive vocalism, combined with the tone of voice that simultaneously calms and exasperates you. The production and tempo held predominantly throughout the track is almost alluring--we feel entranced by Anthony's voice. We seriously are hitting it off with "What It's Like"--already added to our playlists, and we're highly encouraging that the BuzzMusic community adds it to theirs too! Discover "What It's Like" here! Hey Reid! Can you introduce yourself to our readers here at BuzzMusic! Hey BuzzMusic, I’m Reid Zakos and I'm a dance-pop singer based in Vancouver! I was born in Calgary, and I started out as a dancer and in theatre but then started singing and writing songs around the age of 12. I come from a pretty musical family, my dad is a jazz piano player so I was always encouraged to follow my creativity. My sister is also an amazing singer that lives in the UK now. Your sound is incredibly unique—we love the sultry, dark and hypnotic tones you present throughout your music. Can you tell us more about your creative process, and how these tones come to be perfectly integrated within your music? Thank you! My creative process changes and can be different every time, sometimes I write lyrics and melodies to tracks that producers send me that are already otherwise finished, and other times I have a more organic approach and start writing from the piano or with a guitarist/co-writer and then produce afterwords. I’m very lyric oriented - some writers start with a melody and fill in the words after but I almost do the opposite... The melodies come naturally for me once I know what I want to say or express. I guess some of the dark tones come from growing up in a house with hearing jazzy minor chords on the piano! My songs like "Neon", "Respect Me" and "Illogical Rhythm" come from heartbreak and overcoming adversity. I’m still exploring my sound and while some of my releases have sounded more dark and hypnotic I do also have some really fun upbeat songs including my new single “Gladiator”! Who is your sole biggest musical influencer? Hands down Lady Gaga! She is so fearless and artistic and goes for it every time! She really helped me love and accept myself and made me feel confident in both coming out and being different. Her music is so empowering and uplifting - even the slower/sadder songs soothe the soul. The first time I saw her on MTV in the “Just Dance” music video in the disco-bra I thought to myself “she reminds me of me”! If you could produce a track and collaborate with two artists, who would they be? I’d love to write with Justin Tranter or Allie X! They're both so talented and inspiring. Are you planning on releasing more music throughout the rest of 2019? I am! I’m featured on a song with Jayden Mckenzie called “Blurry Now” that’s coming out in September, and then I’m releasing more of a ballad I wrote with Tess Anderson closer to November. • Roots-Rock Collective Holly Bernt Band Says “Take A Look At Me Now”

Making noise out of Detroit, MI, Holly Bernt Band showcases innovative music that reflects heavily on the nostalgic memories and life experiences of singer/songwriter Holly Bernt. Refreshing roots-rock to the core, Holly Bernt Band refuses to be pigeonholed by the habits of formality. The trio is always laying down tight grooves and through their inspiring lyricism they demonstrate how resilience is more relatable than we think. “Take A Look At Me Now” is a motivational and empowering track about pulling yourself out of a dark place. We all go through times when we can’t seem to find our groove and Holly gets that. She writes music that her listeners can relate to. This song resonates with me because of the emotional delivery of every word. It’s harmonically rich and authentically human. Together, Holly Bernt Band’s chemistry come flowing through the speakers. Their sound is finely-calibrated beyond their years and boasts elements of classic roots and blues with a contemporary rock flare. We love what they bring to the table and we can’t wait to see what they deliver next! Check out “Take A Look At Me Now” here and read more below in our exclusive interview! Welcome to BuzzMusic Holly Bernt Band! Can you tell us more about your upbringing into music? How did you get started? I can't remember not playing/writing music. I don't remember writing my first songs but my family still sings them to me as a joke ( one had something to do with me thinking that Christianity and being a vegetarian were the same thing). I started performing in church as a kid and then as an adult I started going to open mics where I met a great group of musicians. We were all able to grow together and start getting gigs at bars, festivals and venues. How do you feed your passion for music everyday? I don't feed it everyday.. which can be an issue... it gets hungry and follows me around like a dark shadow until I feed it. Your song “Take A Look At Me Now” is amazing! We love the lyrical metaphors and melody. What inspired this song? This song was inspired first off by wanting to write something that had an upbeat melody. The lyrics are about being okay with your dark side (we all have one) and the tough moments in life. Also the idea that if you let your anxiety in instead of pushing it away it will go away instead of putting you in a bad place. What’s your favorite part of the song, lyrically or sonically? I couldn't say which part of a song I like because it depends on the song. I do however, prefer writing lyrics because there are so many "aha" moments and things that you learn about yourself when you write. What’s next for Holly Bernt Band? We are working on our second album, playing shows around LA and looking forward to a West Coast tour later this year. Connect with Holly Bernt on social media www.instagram.com/hollyberntband

  • SharaLee Releases The Sweet Soulful “DejaVu”

SharaLee is a Canadian soul singer and songwriter who was named after the 80’s Christian singer, Sharalee Lucas. She grew up in a musically inclined family and made her first appearance on the church stage at the age of five, with her mom accompanying her in harmony. Many of her family gatherings were filled with music and everybody played an instrument or sang. Although she was a part of her choir in school, she was often teased for being too loud and twangy. Her earliest musical influences were from her grandparents and extended family. SharaLee uses her early inspirations for her evergreen sound that will leave its listener speechless! We took a listen to the soulful release of “DejaVu” and this song will leave a lasting impression on your memory. The sound is timeless, ageless, and transporting. It has this nice fusion of vintage blues mixed with contemporary soul and jazz. SharaLee’s vocals are riveting, and detailed. You’re overwhelmed by the sensational elevation you feel from her piercing voice. “DejaVu” was sweet mixed with sassy. It gave me the environmental setting of the 60’s while soothing in the current age of love and companionship. The song was beautifully executed and we can listen to it over and over again. SharaLee compels us with a consistent approach to this magical record! Listen to “DejaVu” here and get to know more about SharaLee below! Introducing SharaLee! Welcome to BuzzMusic. You grew up in a musically inclined environment, would you consider this heavily beneficial for your music today? The musical inclination in my family was always toward a church environment which was incredibly influential on how I write. Any amount of encouragement to express yourself musically as a kid is beneficial. In my case, there was, I think a certain expectation to stay within the church environment and my initial tendency was to just go with what I was familiar with. But I wanted to do more. I wanted to go deeper in different genres of music. We loved the release of your single “DejaVu”. What was the meaning behind these beautiful lyrics? I’m so happy that you liked the song. This one is definitely my favorite as well. Some songs come together really quickly and the lyrics are just there. That was certainly the case with Dejavu. I’ve been on a personal journey of working through some relationship hurts from my past and there are good days and bad days. I was having one of those bad days where I felt like I was 15 all over again dealing with unrequited love. On the other hand, it seemed absolutely ridiculous because I’m not a teenager, I’m a grown woman in her 30s and happily married. We just celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary this month! Lol. So the concept for the song is having all these adolescent feelings about someone, and yet realizing I am not that person anymore. So the experience is not real at all but simply dejavu. What inspired you to write this single? The journey I am on inspired me to write the lyrics. The actual music was inspired from listening to a whole lot of 60’s Motown Soul music. Otis Redding’s classic “These Arms of Mine” is one of my favorites so that was the reference for the song. What would you consider some major challenges you have to face as an artist and how do you overcome these obstacles? I think staying a genuine and authentic as possible is one of the biggest challenges for most artists. Especially sync artists like myself. There is so much pressure to sound like what is current or trending. That’s one thing I never try to do. I have a retro sound and that is what is authentic for me. It was so freeing when I finally figured out what I was good at and what worked for me. I never feel like I’m in competition with anyone because there is no one else like me. And that goes for every other artist out there. Just be who you are. What’s next for SharaLee? I’m writing some new tunes and things are picking up with licensing songs. I’ve made a lot of great relationships and connections with publishers and music supervisors over the past several months, so great things are on the horizon.
