  • NEW MUSIC VIDEO: Duo Monie & Meeks Releases "Bad Boy"

Pop duo Monie & Meeks, residing in Philadelphia, PA, came out with their new album "BEEN DOPE". We're loving the execution of this duo, focusing more so on what they have to offer the pop/hip-hop category. Their vitality in each track is game-changing. We feel all of the talent and energy they have to offer the music scene-- Monie & Meeks are undoubtedly going far places with their eccentric and eclectic curations! Monie & Meeks are curating feel-good, flowing music that is beyond fascinating! Their track "Bad Boy" featuring Boob Mile$ is energetic, with various house/psychedelic elements integrated in to create that out-of-this-world vibe. In my opinion, their music video for "Bad Boy", shot by Brendan Grant, captures the ambience of the track brilliantly. The vocalism within the track allures listeners with the prominent sultry appeal, dynamic vocals, and charisma--it really all pours off of Monie & Meeks while they're singing. The choice of synth production with "Bad Boy" extremely complemented the voice of Monie, and hyped up the vibe of Meeks to an elemental level. The rap verses are executed with a calm, yet intense approach. The harmonies are almost tropical--we're feeling good, and really vibing with the energy Monie & Meeks puts out there in their music. Feel good with Monie & Meeks latest track "Bad Boy" here, and keep scrolling for the duo's interview with BuzzMusic! Hey Monie & Meeks! Please give our readers an idea of who you both are as artists! We like to think of ourselves as sweet and salty M&Ms! Meeks has the softer, sweet but shy side. She likes to make music about love and relationships. Monie has the harder, funny, more outgoing side. She likes to make music about partying and having good vibes! What would you say is the most integral element of your music? The most integral element of our music is the blend of personalities that always yield a diverse sound and perspective. One of the artists we admire is OutKast, for their success as a music duo. They were always able to find common ground together and as solo artists still under the umbrella of Outlast. Their personalities showed beautifully. What's the main message you're trying to engrain in your listeners through your recent release "Bad Boy"? The “Bad Boy” song is one that features Meeks only. Her intent in creating the song was to paint different picture of a bad boy. Someone whose affection is what makes them a bad boy. It’s so  hot and passionate that it feels like the things you do together are bad, like you’re being corrupted. "Bad Boy" was so catchy, we played it through the office all morning! What kind of vibe were you both going for when curating the track? The vibe for “Bad Boy” was creating a sexy, wanting what you know isn’t good for you feel. But the feeling is so addictive, you can’t help yourself. Congratulations on your recent album release "BEEN DOPE"! How was the creative process of the album? Did either of you ever bump heads while writing the tracks? The process of creating the album was a long journey filled with beautiful growth as a group and as solo artists. We wanted to open the album strong, with a song that would set the tone. Make listeners say, “Ooww, what a vibe! I wonder what else they are capable of”. Which is why we chose “Stop Me” as the first track. We structured the album in a way that if fans want to hear just Monie or just Meeks, they can skip to those sections. Its an 11 track album that includes 4 joint songs, 4 songs by Monie, and 3 by Meeks. We definitely bumped heads many times, Meeks admits she annoys Monie often! But it’s apart of being a duo and something we wouldn’t trade for the world. We realized so much about ourselves with this project including the idea that doing solo songs is a cool thing. We can individually showcase our personalities which ultimately helps us make better joint songs. • The Sultry & Mysterious Ajia Clark Releases Enigmatic Single "What Am I to Do"

Ajia Clark is the next big voice and singer/songwriter from Colorado. Ajia gave us pure comfort and tranquility when listening to her music. Her voice is filled with honesty and passion, and this is something the BuzzMusic community definitely can't miss out on. Ajia fully gives her listeners an experience through her music--the type of experience that makes you feel elegant. We're absolutely raving over Ajia's music, and we need to get right into her most recent releases, because we've already been playing it on repeat this morning, and we don't want to hold her music back from the BuzzMusic community any longer! Wow. Ajia's voice is the perfect tone of sultry that we were definitely missing from our day today. You know those artists that can adopt the alluring and intimate appeal effortlessly? That's Ajia Clark, especially so in her latest release "What Am I to Do". Listening to "What Am I to Do", we want to curl up in a cozy blanket, or even a warm bath, with candles lit, a nice book in hand, and ultimately feeling relaxed and warm. It's incredible what artists can make their listeners feel just with the sound of their voice alone. We're so entranced by Ajia's voice that we had to re-listen to "What Am I to Do" a second time around to listen to the actual lyrics (her voice was so naturally flowing and filled with grace that we were fully entranced in and in the moment of the song). Ajia contributes to the jazzy/soul music scene incredibly well with "What Am I to Do", and we're buzzing to hear her upcoming album "Finally Ajia"! Although some topics may be dark, Tenna provides a light at the end of the tunnel and bright imagery for her listeners. Allow yourself to escape to the hypnotizing vibrance of “Silver Storm” and stay on the lookout for Tenna’s new album! Check out “Silver Storm” here and read more below in our exclusive interview! Hey Tenna! Welcome to BuzzMusic! When did you start writing music? Hey Buzz! I started writing music when I was a little girl, but I really didn't start taking it seriously until about 4 or 5 years ago. That's when I really got into songwriting. Who are you musical inspirations? My biggest musical inspiration is my father. I grew up listening to him sing and play the guitar. He would play Neil Young, Bob Dylan and The Beatles'. I would say that a lot of my lyrical inspiration comes from those artists. I also grew up listening to a wide range of artists like Annie Lennox, Anita Baker, and the Dixie Chicks all thanks to my parents. I think that's where my sound really comes from. I'm not going to a lie though, a hint of my sound also comes from the Britney Spears obsession I had when I was younger. Is there a specific event in your life that influenced your writing style? I really think listening to Bob Dylan, Neil Young and The Beatles really influenced my writing. Specifically the songs, "Golden Slumbers" by the Beatles as well as "Harvest Moon" by Neil Young. My dad would always sing these songs and eventually I started singing along. I also enjoy poetry quite a bit. My mom bought me a book of poems written by Spanish poet, Federico Garcia Lorca, which I really love reading. I really think my lyrics tell more of a story. I always start by writing poems and then later, I put a melody to them. One of my favourite poems by Lorca translated to English: Before Dawn But like love the archers are blind. Above the green night arrows leave traces of ardent lily. The keel of the moon rips purple clouds and the quivers fill with dew. Oh, but like love the archers are blind! Let’s talk about “Silver Storm”, what do you want the listener to take away from this single? "Silver Storm" is about the peace you feel when you are in love. It is about how, no matter what external factors are present, there's that one person that can always make you feel grounded and bring you back down to earth. No matter what terrible things are happening, they can calm you down and restore your happiness. "Silver Storm" also refers to the silver lining in all of the chaos because you can always find good in the bad. I tend to see the good in people, a strength and a weakness. My whole life my mom always told me that I was a perfect mix of strong and sensitive so I am also referring to myself as a “silver storm”. This is what the song means to me, but I also wrote it so that people can listen and take what they want from it. I don’t believe lyrics should always be so explicit, rather up for interpretation. What can we expect from your new album? Do you have a release date planned yet? I’m really excited for everyone to hear my EP. There are four songs, each with their own story. One is about the difficulties of a long distance relationship, the other is about an emotionally hard/abusive relationship, and the last one is the one I am most excited for. My song, “Why Didn’t You?” is a song about the struggles of female sexual assault victims. It is about the issue of victim blaming and is written from the perspective of the victim. I believe that many people, not only women, will be able to identify with this song. I don’t have an exact release date planned, but it will most likely be around October/November. • Dive Into The Mind Of Caesar Gorgeous In “Breathe” (feat. Shellz)

Caesar Gorgeous is a rapper, singer, songwriter and talented producer making noise out of the Chicago area. Working side by side with gifted producer and music engineer J. Khaga, Caesar creates new wave hip-hop to galvanize the contemporary music scene. Trained as a sound designer and audio engineer at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Caesar also spotlights audio detail through his progressive production choices. Caesar’s latest release “Breathe” (feat. Shellz) is a smooth hip-hop track with alternative elements. Caesar’s voice is pleading but not cloying when he delivers the melancholic chorus, “I feel so suffocated”. In the data-dump era, where artists churn out as much music as they can, Caesar is careful and meticulous, malleable and introspective. “Breathe” totters between ambient hip-hop and R&B, sometimes hard, sometimes smooth. Eventually, he blurs the lines between them. What draws you even closer to Caesar Gorgeous is the heartfelt essence of his raps. He can dive into the nooks and crannies of his life story or take an eagle-eye perspective, but he does both with a hypnotic, penetrating conviction. His songs are deeply meditative, and, in turn, revealing. I highly recommend you check out “Breathe” and the rest of Caesar Gorgeous’ impressive repertoire. Check out “Breathe”! Keep scrolling for more with Caesar Gorgeous! Hi Caesar! Welcome to BuzzMusic! How did you get started in music? I got started in music at a young age. My mom was a manager for artists when I was growing up, and she'd always bring me around artists and studio sessions. I grew up asking producers to teach me Fl studio and how to produce so I always had an interest. How did you create your stage name? My stage name comes from me being gorgeous. Come on now look at me, I'm gorgeous! [laughter] My name actually comes from a previous performance name and my label. I went under Emcaesar or Em-Caesar for a couple of years. The label, I co-created with my homie Scruff, is named She So Gorgeous. She So Gorgeoushas been me and my friends for years. One day, my roommate Jake was like "why don't you just be CaesarGorgeous?" After thinking about the brand, how people would butcher my old name, and how 'CaesarGorgeous' just sounds hard, I ran with Caesar Gorgeous. Now when people see the rose logo, you'll know that's Caesar and She So Gorgeous. What’s the meaning behind the lyrics in “Breathe”? What do you hope the listener takes away from this track? "Breathe" comes from feeling suffocated by your current circumstances and surroundings. For my verse, I felt like after my album 'Perception' was released, I got a lot of texts and calls of people asking for shit. People showing fake love. When I had ideas, people didn't believe or didn't buy into my plan. I made sure my circle went back to a small number of people I actually trust. I'm giving and I want to connect my city, but I can tell when people see me as a stepping stone and not a person. Shellz verse had a very personal and progressive feel to it also. Shellz and I were just on the same wave that night in the studio. I want the listener to feel like it's ok to progress past your current situation and the people around you. You gotta grow and be your best you. Sometimes things make you feel suffocated, but you have to keep moving upward. Who are you top three musical influences? Do they help inspire your unique sound? My top three musical influences are Pharrell, Kanye, and Jay-Z. Pharrell and Kanye are major inspirations. Both artists constantly challenge and push sounds while creating a new standard when it comes to music. Kanye and Pharrell helped me feel ok about pushing my voice to different territories even though I'm not the best singer in a traditional sense. Jay-Z is my biggest influence writing-wise. Jay-Z is a master of saying a lot with minimal effort or words. I try to take that approach with my lines. What next for you Caesar Gorgeous? Any upcoming shows? Next for me is an EP coming soon, I won't give a release date yet. Just know more collaborations coming and a much bigger presence on this project. Also, a music video coming. Last, I'm on the Chicago stop of the Emoji Art Show in August. Stay connected with Caesar Gorgeous! Instagram: www.instagram.com/caesar.grges #BuzzMusic

  • You Have To Check Out The Psychedelic Stylings of The Space Wizards In “On The Loose”

How do you describe The Space Wizards? How do you categorize the culmination of a love of psychedelic rock, blues, noise, and dirt? One word. Wild. Off of their debut album “Adding Color” The Space Wizards have blown my mind with the groovy, bluesy, dirty track “On The Loose”. High energy from beginning to end, “On The Loose” has a simple message.. These boys persevere, they power through their hard times and they hold no grudges or ill will along the way. William Côté Munroe provides howling, ravenous guitar from the aether and vocals, Johnny Giancaspro holding down the low end with thunderous bass, and Evan Giancaspro with earthquaking drums of the highest magnitude. With quirky lyricism and a rhythm section throwing down tight grooves it’s hard to believe the band is only three guys. Upbeat and addicting, “On The Loose” is a song that anyone can listen and relate to, or just jam out to. The song gives off an old school funk vibe, while still keeping things psychedelic and modern. It’s hypnotizing rhythm keeps your interest, while the lyrics let your mind wander. The guitar chords are spectacular throughout, the drumming is precise with hard hitting high hats and the groundbreaking sound of William’s vocals will have you craving more. Based in Montreal, the explosive trio of The Space Wizards have made an incredible launch into the music industry with their timeless album “Adding Color” available on all major streaming platforms! We can’t wait for you to hear this entire album, stay on the lookout for The Space Wizards. Listen to “On The Loose” here and read more below in our exclusive interview! How did you come up with the name The Space Wizards? How did you all meet? Common misconception about the name is that people make the assumption that The Space Wizards refers to outer space, but it also refers to the space which we as individuals occupy and interact with. How we manage that space affects how others manage theirs and so on and forth. The name is all about how we're all connected in one way or another.   Johnny (bass) and Evan (drums) are actually brothers.  They went to the same highschool as Will (guitar, vocals) but never actually met. Ten years later, a mutual friend told Johnny and Evan about Will looking for a bassist and drummer. Our first meeting lead up to this moment. When you're not making music, what do you all do? That's kind of funny because we're all always working on something related to music, whether together or individually. Open mics, bar jams, Will will busk when he isn't teaching music. We all share a love for video games. Evan is a photographer on the side.  Johnny and Will are pretty deep into the occult, and the paranormal, not that they're active participants, but they enjoy reading and learning about it all. Can you tell us about the meaning behind the lyrics in "On the Loose"? What Inspired this song? On the Loose was written during a stressful time. We had been through a pretty big shake up, and this song kind of came naturally as we navigated that situation together.  It's about breaking out, and powering through without holding onto grudges. No grudges, no revenge, no getting even, just moving onto a brighter day. What's the main theme of your debut album "Adding Color"? We always want to create something that leaves people feeling good, feeling happy, hearing themselves in our music and feeling like we're all a part of something bigger, together.  We want to add a little bit of oomph, a little bit of color to people's lives. What other bands would you compare your genre of music to? That's the question we get asked the most, and it's the hardest one to answer. We're always in a struggle of trying to acknowledge our inspirations and proudly wear them, but at the same time, we don't want to become single minded and defined by them.  We have a bit of funk, a bit of blues, a bit of psychedelic, a bit of dirt, and that's because we all come from different backgrounds. Evan is big on punk, ska, and big band music, Will is inspired by Hendrix and the psychedelic sound of the 70's with a healthy dose of funk, and Johnny grew up on grunge, metal, and Japanese rock music, so you have a pretty wide range to work with. Sadderday’s newest single “Lord, Beer Me Strength” boasts retrospective lyricism, pummeling guitars, catchy melodic riffs, and heavy rhythmic drums. Sadderday exudes an authentic chemistry that only comes from fine calibration and undeniable talent. “Lord, Beer Me Strength” weaves through storytelling elements while still remaining a contemporary pop/punk/rock track. Using music as an outlet for their emotive lyricism, Sadderday establishes a solid foundation for their fans to relate to their songs. “Lord, Beer Me Strength” is a welcome and addicting new addition to the music industry and I highly recommend you check it out and stay on the lookout for what Sadderday delivers next! Check out “Lord, Beer Me Strength” and read more below in our exclusive interview! Welcome to BuzzMusic Sadderday! Can you tell us a bit about yourselves and how you all met? Music has been a big part of everyone in this band for the majority of our lives. Most of us know each other for a very long time and we found this passion for music was the main thing we all have in common. Jose Ibarra (vocals) and Julian Martinez (rhythm guitar) grew up together living a couple buildings from each other. Jose (lead guitar) and Luis (drums) Matute are brothers who have been playing music together for a very long time. Alex Lievano (bass) and José (vocals) have known each other since middle school. Luis introduced his brother to everyone while a couple of us were part of a different band. This made it easy to find the pieces that now form Sadderday. How did Sadderday come to fruition? Sadderday was formed at the end of 2015 after a previous project fell through. We went through about 2 years as a 3 piece band consisting of Jose Ibarra (vocals), Jose Matute(lead guitar) and Luis. In 2018 we added Alex who would take on bass for us and added a much needed element to the band. A year later we reached our final form with the addition of Julian on rhythm guitar. This helped us find a more complete sound as well as add balance to the band. Things have definitely picked up for us these last 2 years. We’ve been able to find who we are as a band and what we aspire to be moving forward. Tell us about your new track “Lord, Beer Me Strength”! What’s the meaning behind the lyrics? “Lord, Beer Me Strength” is a reference from the hit comedy show “The Office”. The title has absolutely nothing to do with the song but we found humor in the fact that it states a plea for help in a comedic way. We were able to correlate the song title with the lyrics in a sense that this song can be a plea for help finding strength to fight oneself and the mistakes we make as individuals. The song focuses on coming to a realization that you can grow and become a better person. Sometimes we handle things a certain way based on the way that we are or how we grew up. That’s not always the best way to handle things. You end up hurting people because you don’t take anything or anyone into consideration. The whole point of it is coming to terms with the fact that you need to think of how certain things might make someone else feel. Your actions or your words might not always sit well with others. It’s about fighting to win a battle with yourself to grow and become a better person not only for yourself but for the people you love and who ultimately love you back. What was the writing process like for this track? I think this is the first song that instrumentally we didn’t bring something from home and just write around a certain part. For this track and definitely for what’s been written lately for the coming EP we found a groove where we literally just jam out in our lockout, studio, dark room whatever you may know it by. And as mentioned earlier the meaning to the lyrics were just as meaningful to us as the element of not having the traditional pop-punk sound. Which we embrace fully. What’s next for Sadderday? Summer has been amazing to us so far we’ve played a little more than a handful of shows in June with a lot of great bands that just happen to be friends of ours, so it’s been great. IN JULY THOUGH.. We have a HUGE show on July 12th in Pomona with great  up and coming bands (Tell Tale, Divided Minds, Sincerely Me) so we couldn’t be more excited for that one. As I mentioned earlier and EP. We’re done with everything we need to do before we actual record. With that being said we start tracking Drums this coming weekend! Release date for that is not known yet at this time, but always check our Instagram, Facebook and Twitter for updates on anything we cook up for everyone to see! Keep up with Sadderday through social media! Instagram: www.instagram.com/sadderdaymusic Facebook: www.facebook.com/SadderdayCA #BuzzMusic

  • “One That I Want” Showcases Independent Up And Comer Phil’s Diverse Artistry

Authentic new artist Phil is here to hit the music scene hard with his original new sound. Phil is an independent artist out of Charlotte, NC who is currently making noise out of Brooklyn. Multi-talented, Phil is a singer, rapper and expert storyteller through his flawless lyrics. Growing up lower middle class, Phil has a different perspective on life that helps fuel his unique hip-hop. Phil has his foot on the gas pedal with no signs of slowing down he plans to release an EP this August and follow that up with an additional EP in October! “One That I Want” truly accentuates Phil’s harmonically-rich vocals and talented songwriting ability. An emotive anthem “One That I Want” is a song to belt out when you’re feeling the love, or a song to turn all the way up and escape to. “One That I Want” gives the listener a retrospective look at Phil’s inner thoughts and feelings. He takes these emotions and turns them into spectacular and vulnerable poetry to share with the world. An admirable quality for an artist to have, Phil makes music that’s easily relatable. He builds connections with his listeners and dedicated fans through his powerful life experiences. I highly recommend you check out this powerhouse of a track! Listen to “One That I Want” here and read more below in our exclusive interview! Hi Phil! How did you get started in the music industry? How old were you when you started writing? I was asked by my homie, Donny T, from college to write a verse for one of his songs for an EP he was preparing for, for a group that i ended up being a part of called “Relevant”. And at first was kinda like “NO” ahaha but when i let go and just did it (wasn’t some of my best work) i really enjoyed expressing myself through the form of writing and figuring out what cadence or rhythm i would attack a certain beat with. And i guess you could say the rest was history. Is there a specific event or person that inspired you to start making music? The funny thing is I’ve always wanted to be able to make music since i was a kid, with early chris brown, ne-yo and bow wow were REALLY popping. But in all honestly i was afraid that i couldn’t find a name cool enough that would match with my actual govt. name, Phillip. Then we i got to college and started working with my friends Donny T, Demeanor & Jabari they sort of pushed me to be the best i could be and release some of my own music (whether they know it or not). We would meet up and listen to hella albums and critique them and then have writing/freestyle sessions in Donny’s apartment. What is your track “One That I Want” about? Is it based on life experience? Most of my music is based on my experiences but a little bit exaggerated, almost like a movie. I think thats stems from being obsessed with movies (especially romance movies) from a young age and always lowkey wanting to have a movie like relationship/story. So yeah some of the thing in my track haven’t exactly happened but the info isn’t crazy far off and its not a full ass lie ahaha. Essentially the song is about running into the woman of my dreams and dropping every woman I’ve ever been with and expressing to her that she’s the only one i want and the positives of being with me. Who do you look up to in the music industry? Why? First and foremost i look up to people that I’ve been looking up to and i personally know such as Donny T, Demeanor, svmmerboy, Grandace, YoungILL, DJ Mal, Ashton Harris, Jr., J Hasan, Ebrin R. Stanley. They all inspire me because I’ve seen them hustling for a minute and i now how it feels to be an independent artist or to be a new upcoming artist. Then there’s the artist that are “big time” that i took up to such as Dababy (from my hometown), Chance, Saba, No name, Drake, 6lack, Janelle Monae and too many more to name. But i look up to them because they are dope ass versatile artists who just honestly make really good music and their sound inspires me so much. What can we expect from your much anticipated EP’s this year? My EP “Prince: The Prep” will be out on all platforms on August 16th will be a 4 songs of love and yearning, love and lost and just plain love songs. You’ll definitely be hearing some of my best vocals on a record to date and you’ll hear me start to be more in my bag of my sound and what i want it to be. This EP will be the definition of philsgood sound so i hope people rock with it! Connect with Phil on social media www.instagram.com/philsgoodmusic www.twitter.com/philsgoodmusic

  • Joshua Morata Serenades Listeners With “You”

Joshua Morata is a multi-talented singer/songwriter based in Honolulu, Hawaii. Just this year, he has released three 10-track albums, packaged as "A Month In Manila Trilogy". The trilogy, which details Joshua's journey through heartbreak and ultimately overcoming it, were written and produced entirely by Joshua, in his bedroom makeshift studio. Spanning a total of a year of production. He hopes to share his stories with listeners, for that he believes "moving on is necessary". We checked out the intense love ballad “You” by Joshua Morata and we’re in love. With an eclectic new-wave sound, Joshua weaves through elements of R&B, Pop and Jazz. The track “You” remains charmingly Lofi but Joshua’s production skills are clearly finely tuned. We can’t help but hone in on Joshua’s deep and alluring vocals. His sultry voice fused with the heavy echoing bass mix with ease and perfection. “You” is a track that every girl wishes a man would sing to them. The yearning and passion in Joshua Morata’s lyricism and overall sound is a welcome addition to the music industry and we can’t wait to see what he delivers next! Stay on the lookout for this young up and coming heartthrob, Joshua Morata. Check out “You” here and read more below in our exclusive interview! Hi Joshua! What advice would you give to your younger self now, when you first started writing music? I could give myself loads and loads of advice! But for the sake of writing music, i'll offer myself this...Hey Josh! it's 2014, and you're a few weeks into your Sophomore year; You just got out of your first relationship, and things will start to suck. You might end up growing out your hair and start dressing up like Michael Jackson. You can't dance even if your life depended on it, but hey, you're enjoying yourself, so that's all that matters. You've been writing a lot of short stories and poems about her, so why not take a crack at singing? You'll be a bit shaky in a few of your recordings, but you'll manage. Heartbreak really sucks, but you're young, and in a few years the fire will simmer down and things will be cool for a while. Always carry a journal with you, that way you can jot down some ideas that'll pop up. Also in a few years, dad will give you his cassette collection, you'll definitely find some inspiration there. Keep going, Josh. You're gonna make it. Can you tell us about the meaning behind the lyrics in “You”? While I was working on the album, I knew I had to include at least one ballad. Unlike the rest of Melancholia, I wanted "You" to be short and sweet, but straight to the point. One of the lyrics being "we don't have to see each other often/say 'I Love You' anymore to keep our love close" sums up the idea of: just because we're not together right now or anymore, doesn't mean we still can't be there for each other; Maybe not physically, but emotionally we're still together. Love is a heavy thing, I'll tell you that much. It fucks you up in the best and worst way possible. "You" is kind of like a reminder to an old relationship, telling them "hey, we're not together, but you're on my mind, and I hope you're doing well". What was the writing process like? What inspired the song? Along with the entirety of the album, writing the song required complete isolation from the outside world. I stayed in my house for the remainder of April and the entire month of May. Throughout May it would rain a lot; The sky would be incredibly gloomy and the overall atmosphere was depressing. I would occasionally go through my ex-fiancée's letters and read almost all of them. That weird feeling of reading an old girlfriend's writing got to me a bit. Mixing that with the sight of continuous downpour outside my window, I wanted to write something that sounded intimate and close-knit. Much like all my material this year and the year before, a lot of it were inspired by her. Hell, even in the "You" video, a lot of her letters were scattered across my bed for the shoot! She probably thinks I threw them out, but nah. As it pains me to admit, I still think about her. Who are you biggest musical influences and why? I could name several, seeing as the list changes every month or so. But to say my BIGGEST influences...without hesitation, David Bowie, Prince, Toro y Moi, and Frank Ocean. Each of them are incredibly unique in their own way; Are all revolutionary and every album in their discography is a musical journey worth exploring. I must give mad props to Mr. Bowie though. I had ZERO plans of making three albums this year. However, with the inspiration of his iconic Berlin Trilogy, and my personal goal to overcome alcoholism, music has been my therapy these many months, plus I can wake up every morning knowing I put out a trilogy of albums that I personally think are my best works yet. What are your career goals for 2019? According to my bucket list, the number one thing listed is "GO ON TOUR". Nothing grand or explosive, just a show in a few cities; Maybe meet a few cool people along the way. I keep proposing a "Lonely Clouds" tour to my friends, and as exciting as that sounds, I feel as though I have many ways to go to finally execute that plan, but i am working on it, don't you worry! Another one of my many career goals of 2019 is to hopefully be signed to a major label. I know it'll never happen, seeing as everyone's in the same music race of achieving "signed artist" status. Columbia Records is cool, I really dig their aesthetic. Maybe I could get their attention in a few years or so, who knows. For now, I'm comfortable being independent. And by the looks it, with the current state of recognition and attention i've been getting recently, I wouldn't mind staying Indie a little while longer. It's all good from here. Can you introduce yourself to our readers and tell us a bit about how you got started in the music industry? When I was in grd11 , I went to a show that kids from my high school were performing at. Watching them hype up the crowd and have a good time inspired me to do the same , that's when I decided that I wanna start this whole music thing. I started dropping songs and getting attention first from my schools then from most of the high schools in my city. I performed with Roy woods at the migos after party and Pressa. I would record at my friends house and started seeing improvement so I started taking it seriously Let’s talk about the lyrics of “Takeoff”! What theme does this track carry? What inspired it? The theme of the song is that I'm ready to show a major audience of what I am capable of on the mic, I'm ready to takeoff and get on higher platforms and be seen. The lyrics are all over the place because in my songs I want the hook to be the most remembered . "It's my time to take off" I feel like it's my time to be noticed. "I been in it for a minute now it's time to takeoff" is just me saying that I been in music for 2 years now and I'm ready to get out there ! The beat fit what was in my find and I've always felt that I can go farther and I wanted to let everyone know. From an artist perspective, what do you think is the most powerful lyric in “Takeoff”? I think the most important lyric is "sipping through the sprite, n*ggas know I'm right , looking in the mirror see myself I feel the hype" . Because I'm learning about the music industry unlike most people in my city and they know the things I say are right and when I say I see myself in the mirror and feel the hype I mean that I'm on my own and I know I have the sauce in the music and just imagining what I can become if I have big outlets helping me. Do you have any upcoming shows we should know about? I have a show with comethazine July 28th at Union hall, I'm opening for him What’s next for you? I'm dropping my EP soon and I'm in talks with having famous dex on a song. Connect with LyLirra on social media www.instagram.com/lylirra
